Stanley Kubrick’s Spartacus had made a splash in 1960, so it’s inevitable that the makers of sword-and-sandal movies would turn to this chapter in ancient history for another muscular hero. Spartacus died in Kubrick’s film, but he must have had offspring, right? So Steve Reeves portrays Randus, a Roman centurion who discovers that the amulet he has worn since infancy proclaims him the son of Spartacus. Given that the whole point of the Spartacus story was rebellion against the Roman empire, this complicates things for Randus. The result is a middling but watchable excursion into historical hokum.

I cosacchi lunghi e fieri con i baffi volti in su nella neve vanno alteri ma Popoff non c'è più è rimasto senza fiato sulla pancia accovacciato che cosacco sfortunato questo povero Popoff. Ma Popoff non si arrende e dopo un po' scivolando sulla pancia fila verso il fiume Don. Hei Popoff così proprio non si può non cammina in questo modo un cosacco dello zar. I cosacchi sono stanchi non si vede il fiume Don con i baffi congelati più non vogliono marciar. Nella steppa sconfinata a 40 sotto 0 sono fermi in mezzo al gelo i cosacchi dello zar. Una de Corbucci siempre es más o menos igual. Temas 'mexicanos', venganzas, dinero fácil, disparos, mujeres objetos y la fácil identificación de la buena vida como la vida de alcohol, chicas y violencia gratuita. Realmente son siempre iguales. Aunque hizo algún Peplum, básicamente su carrera se desarrollo alrededor de los spaguetti western. Pero en esto era un genio. Temática siempre menos reflexiva que las cintas de Leone, que tienen una profundidad que no alcanza Corbucci.Él prefiere temáticas ligeras, exposición de las pasiones humanas de forma más frívola, ligera, abiertamente desenfadada.Un reparto típico: Franco Nero y Jack Palance como protagonistas, una música típica y tópica (del genio Ennio Morricone, acompañado de Bruno Nicolai), un guión resultón, y la estática tan característica de este tipo de cintas hacen una película más que interesante, seguramente muy bien valorada para los fan del género. Me gusta más el Oeste americano, pero hay que ver de todo.El mismo año de esta película rodó El gran silencio, que me parece mucho mejor película.

Rather solid plot for a transitional poliziottesco with vernacular vividness but still moderate triviality, entirely supported by the exceptional Thomas Milian typecast performance. The final chase brings a lot of verve after the quite conventional action scenes of most of the film. Jack Palance makes, as always, his distinguished appearance.
