Alma: “How do you lose Bruno!?”
Pepa: “To be fair, he’s very small.”
Julieta, teary eyed: “You forget to cherish him.”

If you're still taking prompts, how about some Alma being protective of Bruno once he comes back?
"I need a prophecy."
Alma takes a deep breath and folds her hands in front of her stomach. She is blocking Casita's doorway. Nonetheless she tries her best to look accommodating, while at the same time keeping the man in front of her from entering their home.
She likes Emanuel well enough. His parents had been dear friends and good people, even though they have apparently failed to instill some manners into their only child.
An uncomfortable thought enters her head.
Maybe it isn't so much a lack of manners, but a sense of entitlement. An entitlement the entire village seems to share in regard to her son's time and services and his gift. An entitlement she had done nothing to curb in the last fifty years.
'I need a prophecy.'
That sounds so familiar. She has heard that sentence a lot over the years. Not a question. A demand. One she had been all too willing to fulfill.
But that's not the truth either, is it? It hadn't been her dealing with the demands, but her son. Her son, who hadn't been willing at all, but who had done it anyway because years of guilting and insisting had whittled away at his ability to say no.
He still has trouble saying no and that is Alma's fault.
It's time for her to do what she should have done the first time a polite request had turned into an entitled demand.
"I assume," she drawls and straightens her posture "that I'm supposed to translate this into 'Can your son give me a prophecy, please,'?"
The last word leaves her lips like a gunshot.
Emanuel looks taken aback by the vitriol in her voice. "Uhm… I guess?"
"What do you need this prophecy for?"
The man bristles and blushes and that tells Alma everything she needs to know. He probably wants to know if his wife will cheat on him once again. Alma wonders why he thinks that the answer will be different from the other dozen times he's asked.
Odette is a passionate girl trapped in a loveless marriage. What answer does he expect?
"That's private!"
"Well, I'm afraid I can't let you in then. You see, Bruno doesn't give prophecies anymore unless it is a life or death kind of situation. And even then he might decline."
"This is life or death." At Alma's raised eyebrow he grows even more agitated. "She promised she won't do it again. I need to know what's going on between her and the baker."
"How about you ask her instead of my son?"
"No! I need a prophecy! I want a prophecy! It's your son's duty."
Alma breathes deeply.
'They need your visions, son. It's your duty!'
The nausea threatens to overwhelm her, but she won't show weakness now.
"The answer is no."
Emanuel looks like he might try to push past her, but Casita rattles the door menacingly and he steps back. He is breathing hard, but then a glint enters his eyes.
"Guess I'll have to ask your son himself the next time I see him in the village. He'd always been so accommodating, I'm sure I can make him see reason."
Bruno might see 'reason', but what Alma sees is red.
"So you need a prophecy that badly, Senor?"
Emanuel winces at the stiff address. He knows he has messed up, but there is no going back now.
"Si!"
"This is apparently of utmost importance to you." Alma pats his arm and leans in. "So allow me to take care of this myself. Here is your prophecy: your wife and the baker will make a very cute couple once she finally finds the courage to leave you and pursue him."
Emanuel sputters and huffs. "That's not-"
"You are right." Alma hasn't rudely cut off anyone like that in years and it feels good. "That's not really a prophecy, since everyone knows about their feelings except you. So here is another one. On the house, so to speak." She leans even closer and lowers her voice. "If you dare bother my son about this or any other prophecy, they won't ever find your body."
Alma doesn't think she is that scary. How could she be? Over 70 years old and so much smaller than Emanuel? But the man blanches alarmingly and hurriedly puts distance between them.
"The council will hear about this!", he shouts and runs away.
Alma is not worried. Let him go to the council to tell them that the holder of the candle, poised and kind Alma Madrigal, has threatened him.
Let's see how much they will believe him.
She closes the door and upon turning around only jumps a little when she comes face to face with her grinning nieto.
"Abuela!" Camilo exclaims with way too much glee. "Didn't know you had it in you!"
"I have no idea what you are talking about, hijo." Alma sniffs and walks past him with her nose held high "And I expect you to keep this to yourself."
"Sure thing, Abuela." After a short pause he adds "I'm sure Isabela would help you, though. I heard she's experimenting with flesh eating plants."
Alma doesn't react. It wouldn't be appropriate.
But it is something to keep in mind.
****************
The way Bruno hugs her from behind and gently kisses her head at dinner that night reminds Alma once again that you can't trust Camilo with a secret.
Her son's arms are tight around her and he shakily whispers 'Gracias Mama' into her neck.
'Oh well', she thinks as she takes the hand of her son and kisses a sore knuckle 'I guess I can let it slide this one time.'

A Miracle at Monster High (A Monster Mirabel Story Idea)
Here's another Encanto crossover idea for anyone to consider, it goes a little something like this.
Mirabel, seeing her magical family take a picture without her only confirms that she has no place in the Amazing Madrigals perfect image. So, she does what she thinks is best, packs her things and leaves while everyone else is celebrating in Antonio's new room (failing to see the cracks along casita). Mirabel, finally reaching the mountains that protect Encanto is suddenly attacked, and bitten, by a wild jaguar. the Miracle sensing Mirabel in danger makes a last-ditch effort to save her, and magically teleports her out of Encanto. Mirabel then wakes up in front of a massive, and somewhat creepy looking building. she also notices she looks completely different. she has fuzzy cat-like ears, a tail and is covered in spotted fur, like a jaguar. She is then approached by Miss Bloodgood who explains to her that she is in Monster High, a school for all sorts of monsters. She offers Mirabel a place to stay in one of the new dorms and allows her to enroll in Monster High, which she happily accepts. Mirabel then proceeds to make friends with Frankie and the ghoul squad while learning to embrace her new life as a monster. Meanwhile in Encanto things start to go downhill. Turns out saving Mirabel caused the magic to weaken and the madrigals are falling apart trying to find Mirabel. As Alma tries to make everyone forget about Mirabel and get back to their duties to the community (kind of like what they did with Bruno) Bruno suddenly appears, finally having had enough of Alma's treatment of everyone. In a burst of courage and anger he calls out Alma for running the family into the ground with her ridiculous expectations and how he hid in the walls of casita for ten years thinking the family would be better without him but then finding out it didn't. He then says how he had one more vision after Mirabel left and found out that she will have a better life away from the people she once called family and that they only have themselves to blame (leaving out the part that she became a literal monster). That outburst from Bruno causes Casita to collapse and the miracle to break, leaving the madrigals to pick up the pieces of their broken family. Will Mirabel ever see her family again? Will the magic ever return to the Madrigals? Will the Madrigals ever accept Mirabel's new form? What will the ghoul squad think of all this? Guess we will have to wait for someone to write this story and find out.
Monster High is about embracing what makes us different and celebrating our "Freaky Flaws" as they say. And I think Mirabel is the perfect example of this, being the only one born without magic in a magical family. Plus, whenever I hear this Monster High song, I immediately think of Mirabel.

I can picture luisa and the family being super overprotective of mirabel after finding out her spider identity,
Like giving her a lot of random safety supplies and instructions 💀
Wow! Now I imagine Luisa trying to add all kinds of safety stuff to Mirabel's costume, like a real big helmet! I’m
After finding out Mirabels identity, her family forms a little team called “The Mirabel Protection Squad!”
They all have jobs in making sure that she is safe and healthy as Mirabel and Spider-Gal.
Tumblr media
Julieta does daily health checks. Every day, before and after Mirabel's city patrols, she ensures that she’s well enough to be swinging around and not hiding any injuries.
Agustin keeps tabs on Mirabel. Making sure she that doesn’t go to any dangerous parts of the city, and making sure she keeps them updated hourly that she’s alright.
Luisa appoints herself as Mirabel's personal trainer, because if her little sister is gonna be fighting bad guys, then she’s gonna fight right. Luisa makes sure Mirabel punches right and uses her strength right so she doesn’t hurt herself.
Meanwhile, Isabela makes sure that Mirabel takes time for herself, and keeps up with her mental health. Every afternoon, Isa takes her sister out for a jog or a yoga session, just something relaxing instead of running around the city all the time.
Little by little, the rest of the family chips in to help.
Antonio and Camilo join Isabela in making sure that Mirabel takes mental breaks every now and again. But Camilo also makes sure that Mirabel keeps up with her schoolwork too.
Dolores keeps tabs throughout the city, listening in the radio for nearby criminal activity, or situations too dangerous for Mirabel. Especially baddies that came after the Madrigals in the past.
I don’t know about Pepa and Felix. Maybe they make sure Mirabel gets enough to eat with her metabolism and is sleeping enough?
Alma, she helps Mirabel with something the others can’t. Handling the heavy toll that this job comes with. So Alma becomes a shoulder for Mirabel to lean on, or to cry on, or just someone to talk to.
As for Bruno… well, I have ideas for him for Mirabel’s universe. Kind of like a partner in crime.

Bruno and Alma both agree neither of them have anything in common, and don’t look alike at all
They both laugh and joke about how maybe the midwife gave her the wrong son because neither of them see anything that resembles one another in their features or personality.
They’re both wrong.

After Bruno’s return, there are inevitably some people in the village who still call him creepy and spread rumors about him being a bad omen, sometimes saying awful things to his face. Bruno is quiet about it, but Dolores finds out immediately. The nieces and nephews unanimously become Bruno’s personal protection squad. Anyone who speaks ill of him or makes him feel bad will suddenly find lots of loud birds in the area when trying to sleep, and will find themselves tripping over roots and vines that seem to appear right by their feet. Luisa flat-out ignores any requests from those individuals and Camilo pulls pranks on them.
When Abuela finds out, she is furious. She gives all of her grandchildren a stern lecture on misusing their powers, and forbids them from doing anything of the sort again.
After that, she proceeds to march into the village and drag the people being mean to Bruno to the casita one by one and waits with arms folded while they apologize to her son.

I need Bruno protection squad. Or at the very least protective sisters Pepa and Julieta. Like someone who's had a grudge against Bruno tries to blame him and Pepa and Julieta step in. Pepa has a huge storm brewing and Julieta is holding a frying pan (channeling Rapunzel).
Ohh I can see that.
After family heard why Bruno left, their guilt only grow and without any words spoken, they all decided to prove Bruno that they care. At first it was a little overwhelming for him – even before he left nobody was that nice for him. I can see Julieta cooking a whole lot of food just for him and Pepa looking at him and hugging him without any special occasion to check if he’s still here. I can see how whole family want to show him that he is wanted and trying to spend time with him. But personally Bruno loves the most the moments when his family confronts people in his defence.
There’s a lot of people, who future’s Bruno predicted and could hold grudge against, but after few confrontation with his family they started to understand that they shouldn’t hold grudge against messenger. Actually people stopped talking about Bruno after that one particular confrontation.
And nobody was really surprised seeing angry Peppa or Alma, or even Felix or one of the kids. But seeing angry Julieta – the warmest, the calmest person they’ve ever met – was the scariest moment in their entire lives. Even before she has raised the pan, they started to apologised and implied that of course they don’t think it’s her brother fault. (The rest of the family was watching with amused smiles.)
After that nobody is brave or stupid enough to badmouth Bruno. (Even if none of Madrigals isn’t nearby. They know that Dolores is listening.) And in the end they still don't talk about Bruno.

I am OBSESSED with this AU!
Tumblr media
Ok backstory time!
Valéria and her mother moved to the Encanto as they were banished from the isles for (*ahem*)reasons as for that they had to find a new place to call home! So they packed their things and her mother used her staff to fly somewhere far away from the boiling isles
They ended up wondering into the Encanto, I feel like it would be weird to see new people entering the Encanto out of no where and they have magic too, like the Madrigals do. Alma would be suspicious at first but would be kind enough to let them stay.
Inviting to dinner! Valéria‘s mother doesn’t want her daughter to be alone as her daughter has her own quirks that can be seen as weird towards others so she’s sees it as a new start for her! Her Palisman is a Cockatoo, his name is Collin and is very territorial of his owner, since Cockatoo’s bond with their owners like mates and will protect them at all costs, and he‘s a bird who will closely bond to one person in the household and may shun the rest, even becoming aggressive to anyone who isn't “their” person. so he basically sees Bruno and almost everybody in the Encanto as a threat (you can see him eyeing Bruno lol😂)
I can see Sebastián being protective of Bruno as well! Like i can see a Bruno protection squad brewing.
Valéria is a hugger, and does not know the meaning of personal space, because her social skills are pretty bad but she works on them with Collin and her Mother and still tries to be friends with everyone! She does have anger issues that still need be resolved but she’s alright.
and thank you for making this beautiful and amazing AU! I hope this is alright with you and I reread the posts you said about the au so I don't things messed up! Have a good day everybody! this AU belongs to@ramshackledtrickster

Ooo for a prompt, if you want, Antonio and Mirabel having to promise to be gentle with Bruno because they wanna have some tìo time but Bruno is having a bad mental health day and/or a migraine.
They’re the babies of the family and I love this trio so much 💕💕
Tumblr media
“Where’s Tio Bruno?” Antonio asked, looking around the breakfast table with a disappointed pout.
“Bruno’s not feeling well today, bébé,” Pepa said gently. “Remember we told you how he feels sick sometimes?”
“Oh…” Antonio nodded in understanding, but was still plainly disappointed. “But he promised to play today.”
Mirabel leaned in closer to Dolores and whispered, “Migraine or depression?”
Dolores held up two fingers and tapped the side of her head. Ah, bad mental health day then. Mirabel would keep an eye on that.
To her surprise, Bruno ended up joining them for breakfast. He was late and Mirabel’s heart twisted as she realised he’d plainly been crying.
“Tio!” Antonio shot up from his seat and tackled Bruno into a hug. “Are you feeling better?”
“Um- well, I…A bit…” Bruno was plainly scrambling to think of a lie or reassurance, caught off guard. Luckily, Camilo distracted Antonio by pretending to steal his orange juice and Julieta quickly led Bruno to his seat.
He didn’t eat much. Most of his food went to his rats. Abuela tutted over their presence but, for once, she didn’t protest.
That alone told Mirabel how bad it was.
She watched her uncle like a hawk for any signs of distress. No way would he be able to handle a park full of screaming kids today. But would he be able to tell Antonio “no” when he felt like this?
Mirabel didn’t have a lot of experience with this sort of thing. Besides, was it really her business?
She firmly decided that, yes, yes it was. If her Tio was unhappy or unwell, Mirabel wanted to know. She wanted to help.
She couldn’t fix it, she knew that. But she could help.
After breakfast, Tio Bruno seemed only half-aware, stuck in his own head, drifting away. He knocked on the doorframe as he headed for the stairs, his head lowered and eyes dark. What little energy he had seemed to have vanished.
Antonio went racing after him. Mirabel caught him.
“Hold on, hombrecito!”
“But we’re going to the park today,” Antonio said. “Why’s Tio Bruno going back to bed?”
“He’s still not feeling well,” Mirabel explained, as gently as he could. “So he needs to rest.”
Antonio looked like he was thinking very hard about it.
“Can we help him?” he asked. “Maybe Tia Julieta’s food will make him better if he has more.”
“It’s, uh…not that kind of sickness.” Goodness, she was echoing Tio Félix now. “It’s- because of his visions!” It seemed so simple: Antonio already knew that Julieta couldn’t cure vision migraines. It was only a little white lie.
He nodded in understanding, looking sympathetic. Those big sad eyes should have been illegal.
“Then let’s find him a plushie and a story,” Antonio said solemnly. “That always makes me feel better.”
He didn’t wait for Mirabel’s agreement or permission; he went to his room and Mirabel hurried after him. He was sorting through his toys and books and he handed the biggest plushie to Mirabel, holding his favourite book with a smile.
“Let’s go make Tio feel better!” he said and Mirabel just about melted on the spot. She knew they should probably just leave Bruno alone, but…Well, hadn’t that been part of the problem? Leaving him alone had only made it worse before.
So Mirabel followed Antonio to Bruno’s room.
Bruno was curled up in bed, his curtains closed, and the blanket pulled right up over his head. Antonio climbed onto the bed, settling the plushie by Bruno’s head.
Only then did Bruno seem to register that he had company. He lowered the blanket a few inches, revealing tangled hair and painfully sad eyes.
“Uh…?” He pushed the blanket down fully from his face and Antonio sprawled next to him as Mirabel sat on Bruno’s left, the book in her lap.
“We can have a story day,” Antonio said happily. “So we won’t hurt your head.”
For a moment, Bruno’s face was so expressionless that Mirabel feared he’d kick them out. Maybe he’d even snap at them, or start crying, or- well, she didn’t know. But maybe they were only making him feel worse.
Bruno didn’t say anything. His smile was small and weak, barely there- but it was a smile. Mirabel sighed in relief.
“I’ll read,” she said and Bruno shot her a grateful look as he sat up. Antonio cuddled against him, smiling at Mirabel expectantly.
No, Mirabel couldn’t be sure if she was doing the right thing at all. She was willing to bet no one in her family really knew how to help.
But they were trying. They were doing better.
And Bruno was smiling. That was what mattered.
Mirabel opened the book and began to read.

Ao3 Fic Masterpost
alright, this is going to be a bit of a long post, but i have been meaning to make this for a while!
so my Ao3 is hearth_goddess, in case some of you didn’t know!
i know i post most of my updates for my fics on this blog, but i thought i’d just do a whole masterpost of all the fics i have on my Ao3, with a bit of a summary on the series and why they’re organized the way they are!
check out my fics if you haven’t already, and feel free to send me prompts and/or suggestions!
Non-Cats Stories: these are stories I’ve written that aren’t in the Cats category at all, but I still love them!
back then was when we touched the starlight: my first Starlight Express story! I loved writing this, and I’d love to write more StEx in the future!
Soldier, Poet, King: a Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus songfic I wrote concerning my favorite trio of demigods. After listening to the song over and over again, I realized how well it fit, and I had to write something, and this is what came of that!
Choices: My first fic published on Ao3, and a Carlos-centric Disney Descendants story that doubles as a tribute to the late, amazing Cameron Boyce.
after the strike: a 1992 Newsies fic that I rewrote after posting it years ago on ff.net! I’m a sucker for protective!Jack Kelly, so this fic is purely self-indulgent!
and they lived happily ever after: literally pure Belle and Adam fluff for the 30th Anniversary of my favorite Disney movie!!
Chronicles of Narnia: i'm planning on adding more fics to this section, because CoN is so important to me
oh, brother of mine: a peter-centric story that focuses around peter's thought process as he finds edmund on the battlefield after jadis is killed
Stranger Things: the growing list of fics I've written that focus around the Stranger things characters
show no fear, for he may fade away: a stranger things fic focusing on Dustin getting Vecna'd and Steve being the best big brother bc i think they deserve some hugs <3
to the boy i wish was my brother: What Max wrote in her letter to Steve, plus Steve getting to cuddle with his two favorite kids
if you only hold me tight, we'll be holding on forever: the most angsty platonic soulmates Stobin fic that takes place during s5
come back to me, please: more Stobin s5 scenarios, except this one is soft and full of emotional reunions between my beloved dinguses
The Madrigal Triplets and their Mirabel: some sweet, short fics about Julieta, Pepa, and Bruno and their daughter/niece, Mirabel
green glasses: a sweet, fluffy, slightly angsty fic focusing on Bruno and Mirabel Madrigal from “Encanto”! I love their relationship, and couldn’t resist writing something for them!
little cloud: a short fic that focuses on Pepa and Mirabel Madrigal, and their relationship prior to the events of the movie and during the movie.
quiet smiles: a short focusing on Julieta and Mirabel Madrigal, and Julieta's inner monologue about the changes that she sees in her daughters prior to, during, and after the events of the movie.
we see how brave you've been: Pepa, Julieta, and Bruno's perspectives during Antonio's Gift ceremony and Mirabel's ceremony at the end of the movie.
visions: A brief glimpse into Bruno's visions, and how Mirabel became his favorite sobrina, even before she was born.
Aboard the Havoc Marauder: a collection of shorts about the Bad Batch, Omega, and their adventures around the galaxy!
is there an echo?: my first Star Wars fic featuring my favorite group of boys, the Domino Squad from Clone Wars, and the Bad Batch! (but specifically feat. Echo, because I love him.)
bigger than any of us: the Echo and Rex hug we should have gotten at the end of episode 7 of The Bad Batch, complete with some emotional heart to heart between the boys!
no one cares who your father was, only the father you will be: just Omega and her five dads being the softest family in the galaxy. They get all the hugs they very much deserve in this fic!
guilty conscience: Echo’s reaction after Hunter orders the Batch to leave him behind, and the overwhelming guilt that follows.
shadows: Echo being the best ori’vod to Crosshair, and Crosshair finally getting the hugs he deserves from his two older siblings (hint, the other older sibling isn’t Hunter)
a vod's hug: Echo's hugs, and how there is definitely something a little magical going on
plan 88: how season 2 should have ended, aka my determination in my delusions about Fives being alive and him and Echo reuniting
Standalone: these stories are part of the Cats category, but don’t fit in with any of my series!
Hearth’s Writing Corner: a collection of all the shorts I’ve written here on Tumblr, mostly Cats. Categories vary and updates are random.
tomorrow they’ll see what we are: my Cats/Newsies AU!! I’m so proud of this fic, and getting to write a story for two of my favorite musicals has been so much fun.
the magi-coolest cat: my forbidden Tuggoffelees fic that was 100% supposed to be written as a joke but i took it a little too seriously and now it’s one of my favorite stories.
The Alley Cat: my Thomas O'Malley is a Jellicle fic that focuses around him, Skimbleshanks, and his reunion with his family in the Junkyard.

Prompt: Pepa being overprotective towards Bruno (I know you have already written about this, but i have no self-control😅)
Protective Pepa, my beloved 💕
Tumblr media
Here's the thing about getting your little brother back after ten years of unanswered questions: you tend to get a little overprotective. Just a little. A tiny smidge.
No, Pepa was not overreacting, thank you, keep your nose out of her business.
She was being perfectly reasonable. Was a part of her constantly terrified that Bruno would disappear again if she looked away? Yes. Did she want to claw out the villagers' eyes whenever they got close to Bruno? Most definitely!
But this was normal. She was fine!
It was completely and totally normal for her to stomp over, grab her brother and physically drag him away when an angry villager cornered him about a vision that was over thirty-years-old. In fact, it was only to be expected that Pepa slapped the man as hard as she could.
The slap was so hard, so loud, that everyone around them stopped to stare. It only made Pepa angrier. Oh, now they'd acknowledge what was going on? But they wouldn't lift a finger to help Bruno when a man was screaming abuse at him?
That wasn't about to fly.
The man fell silent in shock, mouth agape. A bright red handprint was forming on his cheek.
"If you didn't want your wife to leave you," Pepa hissed. "Maybe you should have kept it in your pants, you disgusting pig. Don't you dare blame my brother for your actions! Stay away from him, from all of us, if you know what's good for you."
"Pepa?" Bruno sounded strangled, completely shellshocked. She could see the anxiety in his eyes as he looked around and realised how many people were staring and muttering. He gulped and pulled his hood up, hunching in on himself.
So Pepa grabbed him and pulled him away, glaring at anyone who dared to meet her eyes.
She'd just gotten her brother back. She wasn't about to let a bunch of narrow-minded, selfish idiots chase him away again. Pepa was not losing him again. Never again.
"You shouldn't have done that," Bruno mumbled as they left the building site. Pepa didn't even know where she was leading him, she just knew she needed to get Bruno away from that damn crowd.
"Yes I should," Pepa said, still seething. If she still had her Gift, a storm would have swept over the village. "I should have done that a long time ago, Bruno."
Bruno was silent. And then he spoke so quietly that Pepa nearly missed it. Perhaps if she hadn't been so used to Dolores, she would have missed it.
"Gracias, hermana mayor."
God, how she missed that title.
Pepa managed to relax and let go of Bruno's arm so they could walk together instead. She grinned at him and he lowered his hood, smiling shyly.
"Any time, hermanito," she said. She snickered and added, "Next time I'll just go straight for a proper punch!"
Bruno laughed and Pepa finally, truly relaxed. They were okay. They'd both be okay.

Younger!Bruno AU, because I have no self-control
***
Félix knew, logically, that Pepa’s little brother had just turned eleven. He’d seen Bruno around, but only ever at a distance. The kid didn’t hang around much and when he was around he was usually with Alma, Julieta or Pepa. Never alone.
But now, up close, Bruno didn’t even look eleven. He looked younger; tiny and scrawny, with big green eyes like Pepa’s. He was standing slightly behind Pepa, peering up at Félix shyly, twisting his ruana between his hands.
“Brunito, say hello,” Pepa said. She took one of Bruno’s hands, gently detangling it from the ruana and grasping it reassuringly. Bruno mumbled, “Hola,” not quite looking at Félix properly.
The poor kid looked exhausted. Pepa had mentioned the latest few visions had taken a lot out of him.
Smiling, Félix held his hand out. “Good to meet you, hombrecito,” he said cheerfully. “I’m Félix.”
Bruno looked at his offered hand dubiously, like he wasn’t sure what it was. After a moment, he took Félix’s hand and shook it. For such a little guy, he had a good grip.
He really didn’t look eleven at all. Well, Félix knew the feeling: he’d always been mistaken for younger too. Still was sometimes, despite being sixteen and he was quite proud of his facial hair, thanks very much. He’d like to think that height didn’t matter, but he also knew all too well that some kids could be real jerks about it.
Bruno’s lips twitched up in a small, shy smile. “You too,” he said, still looking at the ground. Pepa beamed at them both, sunshine around her head. She let go of Bruno’s hand and Bruno stepped back again, but didn’t hide behind her this time.
Well, guess I’m looking after you now, Félix thought. Because even then, even in that first meeting, it was painfully obvious that Bruno needed someone on his side; someone who wasn’t a member of his family.
So Félix promised himself that, even if he and Pepa didn’t work out (though of course they would, they were soul mates, he was sure of it) he’d still keep an eye out for Bruno.
After all, everyone needed a friend. Shy little prophets were no exception.
