I made a set of pride badges featuring some of the less popular Pokemon.

Some of us folks have a harder time finding their place in the LGBTQ+ community because their own experiences or presentation don't quite match up with how certain identities are typically portrayed, even when they're portrayed in ways that are considered realistic, respectful, or empowering.

Shoutout to all my fellow weirdos and anomalies: You don't have to be iconic to be proud of who you are!! At the end of the day, we're all weird little monsters with our own unique sets of traits and abilities. If we all fit into a set of fancy expectations, the world would be a lot less colorful. I gor more Poke redesigns!! Some more favorable than others!!

Emboar- Leaned more onto the Barbarian Pig design instead of the other way they were leading us. Still could use tweaking but im happy with the concept!!

Sneasler - More of a Search and Rescue than the original! The Ribbon on their head flares when they re trying to get someones attention. Fluffier for warmth, and the angled bottom claws to keep balance when clinging to cliffsides!

Golurk- less of a Redesign and more of a Variant! Fire/Ground, after a Volcano erupted hundreds of tbousands of years ago in Alola. Fueled by their urge to protect the huamns, the Golurk abandoned their ghost typing to outfit the lava around them, making them into the Fire/Ground type you see here.

Krabby/Kingler: this one was just to make them less real life crabs and more crab-pokemon! I love them dearly X3

Bruxish: a friend pointed out that they were most likely based on the humuhumunukunukuapua'a but i leaned away from that and went more Betta fish, cutting down on the Yellow and to make it a less blaring look!

Thoughts on Bruxish? Everyone says it's one of the ugliest Pokemon but I think that's unfair.

I always found the "Bruxish is ugly and therefore bad" argument strange, because it's clearly designed to be off-putting and garish. This is because it's based off of triggerfish, specifically the reef triggerfish (also known as the humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa), which are also off-putting and garish.

Also, quite frankly? I don't even think it's all that bad of a design. This Pokemon is supposed to be a neon-colored jarring hot mess, and that's exactly what it is. The actual design, however, is fairly carefully planned; the body is a simple diamond shape, the markings accent the body nicely, and there's clear emphasis on the most important element, the teeth.

There are also a few neat things going on with the design. The thing on its head is based off of a triggerfish's "trigger" and opens up like a flower to lure prey, as you can see above. There's also the idea of it grinding its teeth to release psychic waves, something that commonly causes headaches. It even attacks its opponents with a terrible gnashing-teeth sound, which sounds like absolute hell:

If I was looking at it from a pure design standpoint minus context, I'd say that it's a bit overly busy with its markings, even if they are well-placed; dropping the spots could help. The blue accents on the fin and tail also aren't needed. If you wanted to make it less garish, giving it more of a triggerfish beak instead of lips and changing the pink to a neutral brown would help—BUT, like I said, I'm pretty sure all of those elements were done intentionally.

So in other words: Bruxish isn't a Pokemon that will appeal to a lot of players, but I think it does a good job encapsulating the basic ideas of a triggerifsh and standing out from the crowd. In that respect, it does everything it needs to do.
