the sound of heels clicking was what caught chuuya's attention , successfully having it shift from the paperwork across his desk to the floor underneath.

designer , he guessed ... that was the quality of shoes anyone wore in such a building , anyway ; it was also the type he'd buy as gifts for his —

" mr. nakahara , your wife is here. "

... ah , yes. his wife.

such a lovely word , wasn't it ? to him , it meant so many things , and carried such significance. although , he wouldn't be using it for a long time after tonight.

" vivianne , i asked you to please stop calling her that. "

replying with the utmost respect , to which the young secretary only bowed her head in response and exited the room.

sigh ... it doesn't take long before the wife in question was in front of him , and chuuya noticed it was her own heels that had caught his attention earlier on.

that pair ... he had so many memories with that pair of heels .. memories that only he and the woman before him knew , not all of them being very innocent and holy.

but anyway ,

" executive nakahara , "

came her voice , soft as silk as per usual ; was she doing this on purpose ? did she wear that pair on purpose ?? she knows what it does to him .. so why ..

" yosano - sensei , please have a seat. "

he put a hand out to point to the chair across his desk , to which yosano rolled her eyes — clearly done with the small act already.

" oh cut the crap chuuya , you know what i'm here for. "

an sharp inhale ; he did , he really did. and just as the man had sat down , he got up almost immediately yet again .. a slow nod of his head as he did so,

" c'mon , follow me. "

and that , she did ; walking beside her former husband as he guided her to a more isolated section of the office , only to disappear behind a desk to fetch the papers she'd awaited to have in her hands for so long.

their divorce papers.

" you ... you uh , need to have 'em filled by tuesday tops , y'know. "

chuuya replied with hesitation , throwing them before her with somewhat trembling hands.

" i'm aware .. worry not , you'll have them way earlier than that. "

hell , if she could sign them right then and there , she would. if she could.

but why such impatience ? how ?? how could she be so sure and ready for them to end the years they'd been together , while he was even hesitating to give her the damn papers ??

it was no secret insecurities began racing through chuuya's mind , his overthinking getting the best of him ; did she never love him like he did ? was it all in his head ? did she ... fake it all to get under his skin and gain his trust only to manipulate him and possibly betray him to the agency ?

no , shut up. yosano isn't that type of person.

" can i ask you something ? " he said in a groggy tone , signaling he wasn't all that far from his breaking point.

yosano only hummed in reply , not quite looking up yet.

" do you think .. if things were different between us , we'd still be together ? "

" chuuya , don't — "

" answer me. "

there it was again ; another crack of his voice ,

" please. "

with a sigh , her gaze was averted from the papers , and to the man before her .. only to soften while noticing his expression , and reach a hand below her to stroke his jaw ... why was she stroking his jaw ? did she regret this ? was she about to say she'd come back to hi —

" i'm a doctor , not a fortune teller. but i can promise you , that what i felt for you was genuine. and more intense than what i've felt in years. " she exhaled while looking in his eyes , causing his heart to start beating faster against his chest. " and maybe , just maybe , we could've avoided this if things were different ... but right now ? it's inevitable. "

yosano inched even closer after that , and it wasn't long before she was connecting her lips with the man underneath her , almost as if to seal her words.

they might be getting divorced soon , but in that moment .. akiko was kissing chuuya , and chuuya was kissing akiko.

all his life , it'd been like this ; chuuya putting his trust in people , people betraying chuuya , chuuya loving with his whole heart , only to have it crashed within moments of time.

but somehow , it was different with her. he knew she didn't mean to hurt him in any way , and that this was for the sake of both of them.

chuuya was a man of logic , after all.

so why ... why give him hope ?? why did she kiss him in the office that day .. and why , why , why ..

" because what you and i have , is not quite over yet. "

the sound of the alarm is what abruptly awakens him this time , the sound of his hand slapping against it echoing through the room before flopping back onto the covers with a groan.

chuuya officially hates dreams , he thinks.
