Bandai V-Pet Crossovers Part 1 (Part 2)

In 1996 Bandai and WiZ inc. released the original Tamagotchi. To their surprise, the toy proved to be popular among boys as well, despite it being mostly marketed for girls. And in 1997, as a more targeted approach to this demographic, Digital Monsters was born!

A huge virtual pet boom followed and not only did Bandai and Wiz release new versions of Tamagotchi and Digital Monsters, and try multiple v-pets with a variety of styles within the next couple of years, but other companies also tried to bandwagon on the success of these virtual pets!

(Such as Nintendo in 1998 with the Pocket Pikachu-)

While the Tamagotchi was shaped like an egg (jap. tamago) with a crack in its shell where the screen is, the Digital Monster was shaped like a brick cage with bust-open bars! It also featured the ability to connect and battle! Otherwise they both use the same three button layout and similar menu icons. On the Tamagotchi, the toilet icon is portrayed by a duck themed potty, which is also used as the look for the Portable Potty items in many Digimon games.

Now with how closely these two franchises were developed, there's bound to be more that connects the two, right?

One such thing is Tamagotchimoji and Digimoji/DigiCode!

You can see that the two scripts are basically identical, just stylized differently. While Tamagotchimoji got used sparsely until they stopped using it in 2004 (But had a surprising comeback in one social media post on April 10, 2023?!), Digimoji has been used, and still is being used everywhere in the Digimon franchise! There is also a separate set of characters for the Latin Alphabet.

Just like we know it from the Digimon Franchise, the Tamagotchi also grow through evolutionary stages along a branching path, depending on how well you take care of them! The original line of Tamagotchi as well as Digimon owe their designs to Kenji Watanabe! Generally all Tamagotchi's names end in "-tchi" or "-chi", similar to how Digimon names end in "-mon".

In these evolution charts, the Tamagotchi and Digimon are arranged by how well they've been taken care of / how good they are, with the top line being the best, and the bottom being the worst.

But that Tamagotchi chart is actually just the international version, which had "Bill" (aka Gaijintchi/Ketotchi) as secret character past the adult stage. Instead the Japanese version featured "Oyajitchi" (jap. oyaji means "old man").

But wait, doesn't that face look familiar...?

According to the Digimon Reference Book, Nanimon's true identity is unknown and it in fact came from another dimension, where it was known under the title OYAJI. In order to survive in the new environment of the Digital World, Nanimon had to go through a lot of training and battling.

Nanimon's name is also a play on its bizarre nature. In Japanese, "nanimon" is a casual abbreviation of "nanimono" which means "what (thing)". So, with intonation indicating a question, "nanimonda" can mean both "What are you?" or "I am Nanimon".

This joke is even included directly in Digimon World when the player encounters Nanimon.

「ん？なにもんだ？！」 "N? Nanimon da?!" “Huh? What are you?!” 「ナニモンだァ！」 "Nanimon da!" “I’m Nanimon!”

Nanimon's nature as an alien to this World is also reflected in his trait in the Card Game being "Invader".

So yeah, Nanimon is supposed to be Oyajitchi who came from the Tamagotchi World to the Digital World.

BTS MIYA Kicks Off Her Solo Comeback With Exciting News

MIYA talks about her future plans during her comeback showcase!

MIYA dropped the album's pre-release single 'SHHH!' on February 14 as a sample for 'REPPIN'". Since then, ARMYs have excitedly waited for the album's release.

'REPPIN'" is an album that MIYA describes to be one that boosts the feeling of self-confidence while taking inspiration from people she sees as 'girl bosses'. Her examples include Beyonce, Marvel's Natasha Romanoff, Ocean's 8 Debby Ocean, Hotel Del Luna's Jang Man Wol, and Little Mix among many others.

The full-length album came out 6PM today, but Bangtan's Princess held a showcase for the press and a number of ARMYs at 1PM where she performed her title track 'DRAMA' and two b-sides as well ('bloodline' and 'whistle') as talked about her tracks, as we'll write at the end of the article.

Alongside her album release, MIYA released news of a tour this year, starting off in June. She noted that the tour "was actually supposed to be announced tomorrow, but I'm already here. I'll leave the details for the poster, but I'll be going on my first solo tour later this year, and I'm definitely going to focus on performing more recent songs! See you all in June!"

ARMYs flooded to the internet with the news, both excited over the new music as well as the possibility of seeing MIYA perform old songs again as well as other songs she had never performed before.

Are you excited for MIYA's tour? Read below to get a glimpse of what to expect from it from MIYA herself:

MY HOUSE (only until 2:03): "I wanted to open the album with something empowering that boosts that feeling of self-confidence and independence, you know? Also something that feels like pride for representing you and what's yours."

DRAMA: "This is the album's title track and one out of the four songs in Korean on the album. I'd like to say, like its title, it gives off a dramatic vibe in a way that practically screams 'main character energy'."

bloodline: "Writing 'bloodline', i tried to tap into the mindset of a girl breaking free from a toxic relationship. Of course, it isn't something I personally experienced in terms of romance because we all know how sweet and amazing my boyfriend is, but I pulled this a bit from when I got emancipated from my biological birthgivers. Only a little bit. Just the resentment."

egotistic: "I'd say that 'egotistic' falls along similar lines to 'bloodline' in terms of freeing and self/confidence. It has a more Latin pop vibe that I definitely have been dabbling in alongside other genres over my hiatus."

bet u wanna: "If there were one song on this album that would make you more confident when talking to a guy you like, I would think 'bet u wanna' is that song. Enough said, I think that pretty much speaks for itself."

got her own (with TXT Seri): "Seri was with me almost the whole time I worked on 'got her own'! She was really excited to work on something that celebrates female independene and just overall self-sufficiency, and I'd like to think we made a good anthem just for that."

grl gvng: "This is like a song I made with a bunch of my closest friends in the industry. I think namely NCT's Hannah unnie, TXT's Seri, Enhypen's Ari, Aespa's Ningning, Red Velvet's Yeri unnie, and Le Sserafim's Yunjin. These girls are some of the strongest I know."

shhh!: "You guys already know 'shhh!'. You wouldn't expect the album from the pre-release single, would you? Yes, I absolutely enjoyed the more mature concepts I did recently, so I carried it over with this in a more playful manner that shows certainty in one's own desires."

princess diana (with NCT Hannah): "Princess Diana was an icon in her time, and obviously Hannah unnie and I both grew up in England for a time hearing stories of her. This song was kind of us channeling her iconicness in a... not as elegant manner."

b.i.t.c.h.: "I know it's still a shock for many to see me include curses in my music, but I don't care. That's this song, you know? Taking the reigns of my own life because people will always talk, so I don't need to waste time trying to appease everyone at the cost of losing myself. It was a lesson hard learned."

whistle: "This is the last of the Korean songs on this album. Like the others, it's very self-confidence based with the more alluring calmer vibes. It's a song I particularly enjoy performing just because the choreography feels playful and upbeat."

7 rings: "The album closes with '7 rings'. We can't have a woman empowerment album without at least one manifesting song, right? This is the trap song to play when you're getting ready for a girl's night in the bathroom to hype yourself up."

My ask is! What is your fav trait or habits or like one thing which is particular to jikook which u adore or makes ur heart all mushy? It could be a moment or like particulr thing .

For me it is the way JK takes care of JM. In one run episode he puts the socks on JM. It was a simple gesture but damn that one moment made my heart melt, jimin sitting cutely like a baby while jk put on the socks . I repeatedly watched that clip, it is one of my fav jikook moments.

Exhibit a) BTS at Atomix. It's a good restaurant, right? And I'm sure they had fun. Ate good food and what not? We know JK loves to eat, so I'm sure it was a good time. But when the infamous tkk photo was brought up months later JK only remembers that day because Jimin said "I'm sorry"

Umm... okay. Moving on.

Exhibit b) Run BTS episode 10. It was a continuation of several episodes where they rode on ATVs, did a bunch of shit, among them, bungee jumping and we know how much JK loves that. But his favourite thing about all of that when asked, JK said;

I mean....

For me this is the cringiest Jikook moment of all fucking time. I cannot watch this. I just can't. And if it comes up I watch with one eye closed because it's painful AF to witness. Especially members' reactions. Even they know JK is whipped. So Jikook go to Tokyo. Beautiful city, they moved around, they explored, even had fun on Halloween with Scream costumes and everything. They were there several days and even went to Disney where it looks like they had a blast. But this, this? Is JK's most memorable moment?! Are u kidding me? Unless "playing on his phone" is code for something else, this is whipped behaviour right there. And look how proud he is while recounting this. W.H.I.P.P.E.D i say!!

let’s talk about it: bts’ closets

It’s late lol and I was inspired by Sunny @minisugakoobies latest poll about borrowing BTS’s clothes, but it got me thinking hard about their actual style and how great it is!! I feel like they all have such distinct personalities that come through in the way they dress, and if I had all the money (and style sense) in the world, here are the outfits from each member I would want to steal:

Namjoon

Can we just talk about the yellow daisy shirt? Because it’s literally fucking perfect. I think I love it almost as much as I love Namjoon, and I love that man. It’s the perfect piece that adds some interest without making too much of a statement, and it’d look so cute styled with so many other things. i love that he matched the shoes to it too. If I saw anyone wearing this, I would offer to wife myself immediately. The second outfit? I would steal it bc I literally have it. I have it and I wore this same combo - sneakers, plain shirt, grey long coat, and jeans to the art museum. So Namjoon is basically my boyfriend already you see.

Seokjin

Lowkey, I feel like we don’t give Seokjin enough credit for his sweatshirt collection. He has one of the best sweatshirt collections among the members.  think it’s his staple piece, and it totally fits the cosy boyfriend vibe he exudes. Like what other man looks as equally adorable and hot wearing a fluffy bear on their shirt? Let me know. I like how he pairs them with both trousers and jeans depending on the mood of the outfit, esp as someone that loves sweatshirts too. Every once in a while though, he busts out a piece like the jacket in the second pic and I have to pick my jaw up off the floor bc I NEED IT.

Yoongi

If there’s one word I’d use to describe Yoongi wearing anything, it’s effortless. He could be wearing a paper bag and look like he walked off a runway. I like how his casual sense of style really showcases how beautiful he actually is. Like the outfit in the first pic is so simple, but he’s literally glowing in it?! Proof that self-confidence goes a long way. Also we just need to talk about the LV sweatshirt bc he pulls it off even though it’s not his typical style, and I love the pop of color in an otherwise plain outfit (would I wear it on the first day of class if I was still in college? yes)

Hoseok

No bc let’s actually talk about it: Hoseok is a fashion god. I’ve never come across anyone with a better eye for style than him. He’s bold, expressive, and not afraid to take risks and I love that. He can take the most cacophonous pieces and somehow make them work. Like if you step back and look at the first outfit - none of those pieces should work together. At all. But they do bc he knows how to blend patterns and colors. Also making a bold claim that this man knows his way around some denim bc it looks so good on him - the way he pairs navy on navy in the second fit without it looking like a Canadian tuxedo is beyond me (I NEED THOSE PANTS!).

Jimin

We can’t even talk about Jimin without talking about his iconic Chelsea boots and leather jackets. We love a man who knows the value and importance of styling outfits with statement pieces in mind. Also proof of how a well-made good quality garment can stretch a long way when it comes to style. But also?? Can we talk about his accessories?? Bc they’re wonderful. From the hat to the cute bag in the first fit - he really puts thought into the details and those little things are what pulls his outfit together.

Taehyung

I know I said I’d steal Namjoon’s clothes, but these pics of Tae have me rethinking my vote entirely. Tae’s style is driven by such a strong creative vision - he knows the look he wants to execute and he delivers on theme every single time, despite how different the two outfits are. I’m in love with the patterned shirt from the first outfit that breaks up the blocks of color (thought out like a true artist Mr. Vantae). And then the paint splotches on the second outfit? Amazing. Also big ups to Tae bc he supports sweater vests and I am the number one sweater vest enthusiast (they make everybody look cute and cosy).

Jungkook

As someone who wears scrubs most of the day, I really support Jungkook’s mission to be as comfortable as possible at all times. Who said looking good has to be uncomfortable? I’ve been freaking out over the jeans in the first pic ever since I found out Jeon Jungkook existed - they elevate the outfit while still keeping the look very boyfriend bc of the stripes on the side (as the proud owner of some two-toned denim myself). And then the hanbok!! Jungkook predicted how matching sets would be all the rage a few years before it happened! A lowkey trendsetter >>>

Run BTS: 047 | Protect the BTS Village part 1

Synopsis: The iconic debute of the Blue Village saga. Think scavenger hunt meets a social deduction game (think werewolf/mafia for some, Among Us for others). I am completely biased by this concept. The best birthday party ever has was when my mom set up a scavenger hunt. When escape rooms became popular, i was so excited. so it's impossible for me to be objective with this episode. When I started watching Run BTS for the first time, i honestly didn't think there would be an episode that topped these.

Production: They do a great job with the location and getting coverage. the map graphic is a great piece of storytelling as well, it's a shame that it comes out a little stagnant with how little movement it's actually conveying so a more dynamic version would have helped with the pacing. The explanation screens are pretty excessive. i get that this concept is a little more complex and they are trying to avoid staff just rambling the setup, but this is definitely a crutch in these kind of eps. The art dep does a good job with what they need to do, but overall I'm not a fan. The one before the meeting is even more superfluous. I think we'd all rather have had more footage in the time consumed by that 'summary'. We just watched the scenes that it summarizes and we're about to listen to the members share it all with each other. The one after the meeting is quotes of what we just heard the members say...

Endearment: Call me crazy but I think these episodes have some of the best glimpses into authentic personality traits for the guys. F-14 Vs F-15: Tomcat and Eagle crews explain why trying to determine which was the better fighter is a pointless exercise

F-14 Tomcat

The F-14 Tomcat and the F-15 Eagle are two of the best (and two of the most beautiful) fighters ever built.

First flown on Dec. 21, 1970, overall, the US Navy’s Grumman F-14 Tomcat was without equal among Free World fighters. Six long-range AIM-54A Phoenix missiles could be guided against six separate threat aircraft at long range by the F-14’s AWG-9 weapons control system. For medium-range combat, Sparrow missiles were carried; Sidewinders and a 20mm were available for dogfighting. In the latter role, the Tomcat’s variable-sweep wings gave the F-14 a combat maneuvering capability that could not have been achieved with a “standard” fixed planform wing.

The US Air Force (USAF) F-15 Eagle was an all-weather fighter designed to gain and maintain air supremacy. As the first US fighter with engine thrust greater than its basic weight, the F-15 could accelerate while in a vertical climb. Its great power, light weight, and large wing area combined to make the Eagle a very agile fighter. The F-15 first flew on Jul. 27, 1972.

F-14 Vs F-15

Even if until today a real Tomcat Vs Eagle engagement with live weapons fired has never taken place, since the prototypes made their first flights (just two years apart) comparisons have been made between these two iconic aircraft. But, as you will read in the following article, trying to determine which was the better fighter is a pointless exercise.

Having spent his entire career flying USAF F-15Cs in Europe, Robert “Scout” Winebrenner never flew the Tomcat but during the 1980s he had the opportunity to fly Dissimilar Air Combat Training (DACT) with 6th Fleet F-14s in the Mediterranean.

As he explains in Issue 13 “Grumman F-14 Tomcat” of Aviation Classics magazine, innumerable discussions have been made about which was the better fighter, but although both the aircraft replaced the F-4 Phantom, the F-15 and the F-14 were built to satisfy totally different operational requirements, hence the two fighters could be more or less effective in the different missions they could have performed because of their respective strength and limitations.

F-14 multiple target track and multiple target engagement

For instance the F-14 was the best aircraft to defend U.S. Navy aircraft carriers against a multiple target engagement. In fact thanks to its beyond visual range (BVR) capabilities and assisted by E-2C Hawkeyes, the Tomcat could inflict severe losses to an incoming enemy bombers formation. In fact in comparing BVR performance, the Tomcat’s AWG-9 had true multiple target track and multiple target engagement with the AIM-54 Phoenix, while the Eagle did not gain a multiple target engagement capability until the late 1980s with the introduction of the AIM-120 AMRAAM. Moreover, as told by Scout, the AIM-7 Sparrow didn’t possess the range of the Phoenix and the Eagle could only get one or two shots before the merge. So, due to the lack of the multiple target engagement capability, the Eagle was not effective in this role.

Launching AIM-54s without limitations

By contrast the constant mixing of friendly and enemy aircraft typical of a Central European Defensive Counter-Air (DCA) would have rendered the Phoenix unusable in most of the engagements because of the dynamic environment faced by the fighters. Moreover the agility deficit of the then TF-30 powered F-14 could have caused problems during the several dogfights that crews could have faced in such a complex scenario.

Another role where the Tomcat could be very effective was a sweep mission were BVR missiles could be freely shot: this would be the case of a sweep ahead of a carrier-based attack package, a kind of mission where the F-14 would have been able to launch its AIM-54s without limitations due to the absence in the area of any friendly aircraft. Actually the mission would have been also accomplished also in the case the enemy aircraft had leaved the area refusing to engage the Tomcats.

On the contrary, Winebrenner says that in a Force Protection / Escort mission, where the fighters cannot commit on hostile until they were within 20 miles, many Phoenix advantages are negated and the F-15 good maneuverability was needed to better face enemy aircraft. But despite the fact the Eagle’s sensors were better to sort out friendlies from enemies, if the BVR Rules of Engagements (ROE) were so restrictive that visual identification (VID) was required for weapons delivery, the Tomcat armed with Sparrows and Sidewinders was better suited since it owned the Television Camera Set (TCS), a chin-mounted optical sensor that could be slaved to radar line of sight.

So if needed, the F-14 crew could lock on to a target and (if VID was required for the engagement) zooming in with TCS to get a very early look at the potential target. As explained by Scout, the F-15 had nothing like this “It pains me to admit it, but we were flying around with rifle scopes strapped on to the Head-Up Display frame, allegedly boresighted” and achieving an early VID “was not that easy. Maybe other pilots thought it was great, but I didn’t. It was not user-friendly by any stretch of the imagination.”

F-14 Vs F-15: which was the better fighter?

So to the question to which was the better fighter, Winebrenner answers that depends on the mission, on the ROE, on the threat. And if the F-14 didn’t possess the close range dogfighting agility of the F-15, the Tomcat ability to launch 1000 lb air to air missiles with 135 lb warheads was impressive. And as Scout explains, claiming that a missile is easy to evade is much easier than actually evading it, especially if it is coming at you from above at Mach 5 and you cannot see it.

From the late 1980s both aircraft have received several improvements: so if the F-15C could finally engage multiple target thanks to the introduction of the AIM-120 AMRAAM, the thrust of the General Electric F110-GE-400 turbofans boosted the performance of the F-14B and D models.

Nevertheless as explained by LCDR Joe “Smokin” Ruzicka, who was the Radar Intercept Officer (RIO) to fly the last F-14 Demonstration before the Tomcat was retired by the US Navy in 2006, to Tyler Rogoway for foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com, the worst adversary for the F-14 in a mock dogfight remained the F-15C, since the Eagle was “more capable in that area than the Tomcat. They don’t drop bombs, we do. Another thing: a lot of success in BFM has to do with the pilot’s ability to maximize the jet’s capability. Fortunately, the best trained guys who fly the F-15C are on our side!”

• Which of your characters are you an absolute fool for?

There are two big ones here. Across the Tracks!Tae, and Highway to You!Yoongi. Tae is such a confident, cheeky and caring rascal in Across the Tracks. He was super fun to write, and I am a huge softie for his disarming grin.

As for Yoongi, in Highway to You, he just makes my heart bleeeeed. He has such a loyal, protective heart and loves reader so so fiercely. This couple has to be one of my favourites in general. At heart their love is so strong and pure, among such a messed up and painful series of events. Don't mind me crying over them🥺😭

• Which genre are you most confident writing in?

This should surprise none of you: action! Pretty much all my long works are plot heavy, mafia au or adjacent stories heavy on the action side. Have I ever not had violence as a warning? Lmao

• Who is your favorite minor character in any of your fics?

Ohhhhh this is sUCH a hard question! I love writing in the boys as reader's friends. Some highlights have to be the very baffled and oblivious Namjoon in Big Enough for Both of Us, the iconic and loyal duo of Jin and Hobi in Across the Tracks, and the same duo as ultimate wingmen in Just in Time.

At the moment, I'm loving Tae in Supercharged... but you'll have to wait for that one!👀he's a very interesting character with a unique background, I'm not even sure it will all come up in the main series. I hope more of you fall in love with our mysterious villainous boy, though.

• Which of your fic’s worlds would you most like to live in?

This was difficult for the opposite reason to most other questions... because most of the worlds I've made wouldn't actually be that pleasant to live in, I've realised🤣remember what I said about violence? That said, I would have to pick Breathe Again or Still Waters Run Deep, my ghibli aus. Not much can go wrong there! I think they're the most pretty worlds with a little bit of magic sprinkled in🥰

• What is the silliest small detail you’ve ever written that still makes you laugh or smile?

There are a ton of details and hints in Still Waters Run Deep about Tae's real identity... a lot of things that reader writes off as luck which in my mind are anything but, so I hope people notice! Lots of 'probably a trick of the light'/'probably your imagination'/'you probably should be cold'👀

But though they make me smile, maybe they aren't so silly! If that's what you're after, it would probably be in A Dash of Love when Taehyung went crazy and ordered a bunch of squirrel plates, in a very obvious reference to that run!bts episode

Him expressing concern abt having the same impact as a soloist as when they were a grp is the most honest I've heard any member be abt the break also I think he might have been the most affected by this decision since he mentioned he was leaning on that reassurance that BTS as a brand gave him during the pandemic when he trying to deny his personal concerns

Just his entire interview seems so Jimin ...the way he will tell you everything while still holding smthg back but u feel grateful for even that much honesty cause it's very rare to see an idol be so vulnerable abt their thoughts and his constant drive to do better but struggling with it helps me in identifying with him cuz I've gone thru the same thing lol.

Maybe it's just me that I loved BTS so much but I never saw it as if the group was holding Jimin back.

It might've been holding Taehyung, Jungkook and probably Hoseok back, all for different reasons, but not Jimin. Or at least not until a couple of years ago. It's my personal opinion that, while being in BTS he was able to show a lot of what he can do; BS&T, fake love, idol, boy with luv, black swan, were/are to me, moments of BTS career when Jimin's light was blinding, and moments that would have never happened if Jimin wasn't part of the group. Among other performances, his fan dance in MMA 2018 is iconic. He's the only BTS members who has iconic performances like that. He's also the only one who has showed different styles/vibes/genres of performances each year. He went from no more dream to lie to serendipity to filter. He's infinite to me.

Obviously I can't speak for him but him wanting to go on a different direction, in a "mature", more raw and personal direction doesn't necessarily correlate to BTS holding him back. When you're part of a group, there's only one voice. Now, all of them have to use their own voices. I don't think there's any other way than going down the personal route, because as a group they've already said everything they had to say. So, while reading Jimin's interview I didn't get the feeling of "finallyyyyy I'M FREEEE" but more of a "what else can I say now?".

"...what I’m really interested in is showing something closer to my real, personal rawness directly in a format like music or music videos. By doing so, I think maybe I can show something I never have before."

He also goes on to talk about how most of these feelings are recent, like how he felt lost for a year and a half after the pandemic. So I can't really see it as him being trapped in the group, from an artistic pov. At least until COVID.

His presence in their performances and songs started being minimal after dynamite, who knows why. Not even his songs were used. But until that moment, I think he was okay. Of course he could've done and showed so much more, but it personally doesn't sound to me like he felt that BTS brand was limiting him. It does sound like that for Taehyung, Jungkook, Hoseok. Namjoon too but with him too it feels like these thoughts are recent, like Jimin's case.

In general, these past two years were draining for everyone.

It sounds like you were at a point where you wanted to avoid personal concerns or the whole pandemic situation.

Jimin: It seems that way. It was like, Now that I think about it …. I think I figured that at least I couldn’t be shaken because I had the reassurance of BTS. But I was suddenly struck by a thought: Would I really be okay if it were me personally, not the group, that was on display? I think I finally recognized that.

Love him so much for that response.

You know how there are groups of guys who are so badass and act as if the world should kneel before them but when they're alone they're actually chickens?? Defenseless? Being in any social group has that same effect but from a positive side. You blend in, there's one voice, and as long as that voice or image is good, you're good too. You could be the worst criminal but if you're inserted in a group of nuns, you'll pass as good too. All the members have been always protected by the BTS perfect picture. It's not the same when you are alone and your words are yours only and your work represents you exclusively.

Being part of a group also works somewhat as a shield in the professional sense; others could makeup for something you lack, and viceversa. Jimin, and all the other BTS members will have to carry their own weight now.

When he said about sungwoon: “Someday, when we both make it big, it would be something special if we made a song together and sent it out into the world.”

It seems like you felt a lot of different emotions while singing that song.

Jimin: I used to get really emotional when it came to relationships with others and the words they say, but I’m not really like that anymore. So lately I have moments where I feel like, How was it that I used to feel, again?

Two years ago, in an interview with Weverse Magazine, you called yourself someone who likes to be loved, but it seems like maybe you don’t feel that way as much anymore.

Jimin: It’s not quite an emptiness, but I feel like it’s close to that. It’s not like, Well, what else is there? But I think I’m feeling something similar to it.

I don't want to get into that because I think there's some projection from my end but I'll just say it was so obvious... Something about him is not as soft as it used to be, and it made me feel kind of sad for a long time but in the end it's for the better. It's also inevitable. It's inevitable if you want to survive in an industry like that, in a work/personal environment like that. You are forced to detach emotionally and compartimentalize.

Also him saying that Koreans see idols differently than the rest of the world lol. Koreans don't really have a lot of respect for idols and I think not many people know that.

You’re still an idol and still have those feelings, but at the same time you’ve become well-respected among many artists.

Jimin: I’m really grateful for everything ARMY says, but not entirely satisfied with myself yet. Nothing would make me happier than having this much self-satisfaction, but I don’t, and I struggle with that. I guess that’s why, even though I really want to be better, I was avoiding the fact that to change in that way I would have to be more consistent in what I do—but I forced myself to bury those thoughts by telling myself maybe I was already good enough. But now, I want to be even better. I want to be better, and cooler. I changed.

I guess this was some of the stuff he was denying about himself that he talked about earlier in the interview.

You must have had a lot of thoughts like that coming to you when you were singing “Yet To Come.”

Jimin: So now I’m looking forward to it. I’m looking forward to knowing who I’ll become and how much better I’m going to be able to perform.

He said "yet to come WHO?? Anyways, as i was saying.."

What would your ideal performance look like? I felt like it was a little more clear what the audience wanted to see from you recently when you performed “Black Swan” in LA, Seoul and in Las Vegas.

Jimin: I want to show off everything I’m capable of at the highest possible proficiency. For example, whether I’m showing that dark but sexy vibe that only “Black Swan” has, the high energy of “IDOL” or “FIRE,” or how cute I can be, I want to do it all with the highest proficiency. I always look forward to the audience erupting into cheers whenever all my proficiencies come together. I think that’s one of the reasons I used to criticize myself so much whenever I made a mistake or did something wrong.

He's just so attractive it hurts.

-Just a little anecdote, a while ago I told someone that Jimin initially did not write friends for Taehyung, it just ended up being like that, and a vminnie or something told me to stop lying LMAOO and I was like why would I lie about that!?!??!-

I guess I don't really agree with people when they say that Jimin says something but holds back the rest because I don't know what else people expect of him. I've always thought he says plenty. His past interviews were so good, too. He's always been to me, the most honest BTS member, at least the most honest within the boundaries of what they could say/show; the most "out there" and vulnerable. As an example, Yoongi. I've never known what does yoongi do when he's not working, who are his friends, what tv shows he watches, nobody knows nothing of his life outside BTS. Yoongi doesn't talk a lot either, but everytime he does whatever he says it's gospel truth and ohh he's so open, but Jimin opens up about his emotions and his personal journey everytime he's interviewed and yet for people it's "ohhh he's so mysterious" when he's out there on television saying that he cried in front of his parents because he felt lonely, because his friend did this or that. It doesn't mean that he is hiding something just because he's not babbling mindlessly.

Sound of BTS: K-Pop super band decode their success

New Delhi, June 2 (IANS) Few names in the world of music today evoke global hysteria as the K-Pop super band BTS. With a following of 30.1 million on Twitter and 42.6 million on Instagram, the group, who made their debut in 2013, have smashed their own record with their latest track "Butter", which garnered 10 million views on YouTube in just 13 minutes upon release.

BTS, or Bangtan Sonyeondan, are a septet comprising Jin, SUGA, j-hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook. The band is also known as the Bangtan Boys and, like any celebrities worth the delirium they unleash, have a name for their fans, too. They call their ever-burgeoning fan base ARMY (the all-caps stylisation is perhaps meant to underline the frenzy).

Opening up with IANS in a candid tete-a-tete, the South Korean band decode their skyrocketing worldwide success.

"I'm guessing our sincerity reached our audience. We've tried our best to deliver sincere music and performances," says V, whose real name is Kim Tae-hyung. Known for his deep voice, Tae, 25, who kind of carry the symbol of 'tiger', is the fashion icon for the group -- as the ARMY says if you need something to become trend just put it on V. He literally pulls off anything.

J-Hope (Jung Hoseok) pitches in: "And we have always shown our fans all our behind-the-scenes through various contents. I think opening ourselves up without hesitation helped us convey our sincerity." In fact their opening up to the fans even before their debut and literally living every moment of their growth as singers, performers and growing up from boys to men in front of the camera has endeared them more.

Their trials and tribulations, as they went from a one-room dorm in Seoul to the mega HYBE building in 2020 is the stuff of legend. Along the way their hardships -- of sometimes making it through the week with just Bulgogi (fire meat) to distributing posters on the streets of L.A. for their first concert in the US -- that saw few takers in 2014, to today's phenomenal chartbusters -- ON (February 2020), Dynamite, Life Goes On, Film out, and Butter (within the span of just over one year) -- is a journey they have shared with the fans on Bangtan Gayo, RUN-BTS (an absolute stress buster), BTS in the SOOP, among others.

The rise of the band has been a phenomenon that has not only reorganised the contemporary mainstream music scene all over the world, but has also defined the shifting socio-politics of showbusiness. The success of BTS, after all, has widely been seen as a triumph of inclusivity. In turn, the band, which started out as a hip hop group, evolved quickly to adapt to a larger market.

And all this success, despite almost all-Korean lyrics in all their songs, until the all English single Dynamite in August 2020. Today, they sing in English to connect with their worldwide ARMY.

ARMY, the band has said time and again, is intrinsic to their growth. Wider reach and a growing fan base ensures better feedback, they point out, and BTS is one band that is known to listen to their fans.

"When we go on tour, we get to perform a lot and that helps me improve," says Kim Seok-jin (Jin). j-hope, who is Mr. Sunshine of the group and has the trademark intro "I am your Hope, You are my Hope..." adds that the feedback they get for their songs has worked because it tells the band which areas to focus on in order to grow.

"I was able to check what I lacked and what I had to pay more attention to," he explains. j-hope is the main dancer, who is a hard task master for the group when it comes to grooving. Known for his agile moves, he is that guy, who almost left the BTS at one time just before debut, but was destined to return -- as the love between the members could not keep him away.

He is one of the three rappers along with Leader RM (Rap Moster or Kim Nam-joon) and Min Yoongi or Suga. In fact, Hobi, as he is lovingly called wanted to be in the vocal line -- that has V, Jin, Park Jimin and Jeon Jung Kook. But gave it away to V, the surprise member of the group on debut, as is known from a number of their documentaries along the way -- Burn the Stage, Bring the Soul, and Break the Silence.

V credits new experiences to their growing popularity. "We encounter new things and our stage always gets bigger, so it does give me pressure. However, I tried to expand my mindset so that I don't make mistakes," he says.

For RM, like everyone else, the pandemic has had an impact. "I think the current pandemic situation played a big part because we needed to change, whether we wanted to or not. Thus, during Covid, we were able to release 'Dynamite', 'BE', and 'Butter'," he points out.

Jimin, who was the last member to be finalised in the group and trained only for six months before debut on June 13, 2013, says the challenge is about seeking out the right direction when it comes to improving one's performance. "I couldn't really find an answer to what I should do to improve, but if I can find a better direction, I will be able to take a step forward," Jimin says.

The need to grow guides them all. Jung Kook, the main vocalist, and the Golden Maknae, for instance, says he is driven by the constant need to "grow and evolve".

"I think the biggest factor is that I always feel like I'm lacking and I have the continual ambition to get cooler," says Jung Kook. The youngest member, who will turn 24 this year, has given us five makeovers in six months -- blonde, blue, mint-choco, silver, and purple -- and each time fans have loved it. Currently with his purple hair, Jung Kook did the impossible -- losing weight in five days as he said while shooting for Butter.

The conversation shifts to their interestingly-named title tracks. The band says their process of selecting the title track of a BTS album is simple. "We usually select the song that best shows the overall message and theme of the album," RM says.

Which brings one to their latest track "Butter", which premiered on May 20. The song currently has 277,508,962 views on YouTube and 16 million likes. It is also No 1 ofn the Billboard Hot 100, as well as many other charts.

Jin, the self proclaimed 'World Wide Handsome', feels the song is a rage because it works perfectly as "BTS' summer song!" Jung Kook recalls the fun that the band had while shooting it, and attributes that energy to its success.

"The song itself is exciting and fun, so we were full of energy when we recorded it," Jung Kook notes.

"I think 'Butter' is special because it encapsulates our charms," Jin sums it up for the song, the band and the band's ever-growing aura.

With just days left for their 8th anniversary, BTS has their hands full.
