2024 Things I’m Looking Forward To

This is not as easy to compile a list for as it might seem. Because while I am excited about some things, I’m still deeply annoyed that BTS is gone (until we get Jin back this year and Hobi too). I miss Jikook terribly, but in the spirit of it being a new year and of me tending to look on the positive side of things, I’m making a list really for myself of things to look forward to this year. I encourage you to make your own or let me know in the comments or DMs if any of these resonate with you 😊

1. Jikook Travel Vlog- I’d be lying if I didn’t put this as my most excited thing for the whole year. Nothing I love more than being comfy cozy on my couch with some snacks, lighting my candles, and witnessing Jikook shenanigans

2. My trip to Tokyo and Seoul with my sister this summer. Crazy that this isn’t number 1, I know, but truthfully I am nervous. I’ve never flown abroad and for such a long flight I’m nervous. Not about the plane itself but for being in such a confined space with strangers for that long is not my jam. But it will be worth it, I’m sure. I’m also pretty bad with time changes and well, 14 hours is something I can’t imagine. But I’m really excited to see all the places that I’ve been watching on my tv screen for the past 3 years.

3. All the new music content we will get from the tannies this year. I love new music in general (I participate in a group that does new music friday where we listen to new music that comes out every Friday) and getting new music from my favorites while they are away is so amazing. I love sharing that joy with people.

4. Bit of a sidetrack away from things BTS related but I’m super super excited for an actually good live action remake 🤞🏻 of my favorite series of all time at such a pivotal age (12) during my childhood. The equivalent of HP for me is Avatar the Last Airbender and from the looks of the sneak peek trailers, I think it might be worth the hype and I’m ever cautiously the optimist. I’m so excited to enter back into a world that I love so much and characters that mean so much to me. Maybe I’ll be inspired to write some crossover fics 😂

5. The return of Jin and J-Hope will definitely be a grounding experience and a source of great comfort to get real time content again from Bangtan.

6. Any other merch or little surprises or communication from our boys (especially Jimin and Jungkook around here you know the deal) I especially need all the magazine covers and content of Jimin in his natural hair color, blond. He could rule the world.

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head, but it’s enough to keep me going. Fighting! 🫰🏻

6. What is your darkest fear about writing?

whew getting right to it, huh?

hmm...i guess there's always a sense of imposter syndrome, you know? like i've had people tell me "you're such a great writer!" and "i can totally see you publishing one day!", from family, friends, and teachers. i was even voted "most likely to write a book" for my sophomore year yearbook.

and yet. there is always that lingering sense of what if i'm not that good? What if nobody likes it?

believe me - i know the saying "write what makes YOU happy" and i stand by that! but there is also going to be that itty-bitty feeling of hurt if somebody doesn't like it (and tells you it. which is very rude btw don't do that.)

I guess it stems down to the fact that while I like writing for myself, I also like that positive encouragement from the readers.

which does happen a lot XD i'm flooded with comments the next morning after i post a fic and i rarely - if ever - see a rude/criticizing one. Screams? Oh yes. I savor those screams. But I haven't read a criticizing one on any of my ToA fics (BT? A fair few. Lolling usually got there first though and deescalated the situation much quicker than I would have.)

7. What is your deepest joy about writing?

MAKING MY READERS SUFFER!

...jk. but also not haha <3

I really like piecing together all these myths and getting a coherent plotline out from them. Also, absolutely love writing Apollo he's the best <3

also, the enjoyment of the readers are always great too. there's bonding to be done in the comment sections of fics, and i love to ramble about the fic process XD

10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?

absolutely.

there's been many things that have occupied brain-space. But Trials of Apollo has taken the cake.

I tried to write fanfiction for PJO in middle school. dropped it after a couple fics. deleted them too because i was very cringed out by them XD

attempted a PJO/HP crossover. trashed that too.

tried just HP. nothing ever came of it.

Warrior cats i made a cracky Time-Travel AU but also Lolling and I smacked out heads together and made Burning Thistles (still in progress btw - 170 chapters in) but it didn't exactly...haunt me, ya know? I love BT, and I really should get to the next chap soon, but it wasn't quite haunting me.

Star Wars infected me during Quarantine and I pumped out like. 30 fics in Whumptober plus a few others, but then steam kinda died out.

Until...ToA.

It haunts me. No other series has done this. It occupied my thoughts. My actions. My homework. My music. Everything I see, do, or think has some thread of ToA in it.

As for my own writing...heh. anything Copollo. they have permanent headspace and i have no intent of giving them the boot anytime soon.

Also...my Hunger Games AU is very very juicy. i can't wait until it's all done so i can finally share it! about 10 chapters left <3

and well. ^ i think it's pretty obvious what I think haunting means lol

So, on tagging fusions: someone in the notes on one of the asks said something about reading fic for the characters and that they'd be disappointed by fic without canon characters - and okay, fair to an extent, but "doesn't include canon characters" can't be a pure exclusion from a fandom tag because that would exclude, say, ATLA fanfic about a multiple generations removed from canon avatar which obviously counts as ATLA fic.

My best attempt at a general rule is that the fic needs to have one of canon characters or canon setting. Most daemon fic fails this requirement because it only uses the broad concept of daemons and doesn't actually use any of the canon setting. Other context (like size of fandom and commonality of fusions) is going to still be involved, but it seems like the best starting place.

Yeah. I would not define it so narrowly.

I generally ask:

1. Do the canon characters still exist in their world?

If random OCs are running around the ATLA world, canon's characters and canon's plot still exist in the background of that fic (or its future or whatever). If your other fandom's characters act out the plot of ATLA instead of the ATLA characters doing it, that's a fusion. Replacing the characters is always a fusion.

2. How much of this world are you actually using?

Like you say, this one is highly context-dependent, and my tagging behavior might be different for a small fandom vs. a big one.

Basically, this is the one that covers Sentinel AUs and Daemon AUs not being crossovers. They borrow one single thing, and they often mutate it quite a bit to make the AU shippier.

(Admittedly, lots of fic for The Sentinel itself acts like there's a codified Guide role, but this is not a thing coming from that actual show, so fic that just borrows the idea of Superpowered Person/Destined Sidekick without including characters from the show is a fusion that has little to do with The Sentinel itself.)

And perhaps I might ask this too:

3. Is it aimed at fans of the setting's fandom?

Your random BTS-at-Hogwarts fic might be just as appealing to a HP reader as an all-OC Hogwarts fic. Fandoms like that with a great setting often attract readers who will read a variety of characters just for the setting. But do you, the author, intend this thing to work as OC fic for fans of the setting, or is it very strongly aimed only at fans of the characters' fandom?

3 is hard to judge when I'm criticizing a writer's tagging choices. I don't know what they were thinking for sure, and they probably didn't devote a lot of thought to this particular thing. Nonetheless, I think one sometimes gets a sense of how the fic was meant, and we can use 3 to think about how to tag our own stuff.

yea, i like bts lol i got into them in 2016 and only faded out like a year, two ago (long story, but the eng releases weren't my thing, i felt like they ran out of steam and i had less time to fixate)

i still love them to hell and back, purple army blood for life. you're right, I haven't seen any bts content with hp or marauders in general, let alone jegulus. an untapped market. i will think about this

After a gruelling Potions lessons, during which Snape had made 3 Hufflepuffs cry, Jungkook finally managed to drag his tired body up the spiral staircase leading to the Ravenclaw tower and into his sanctuary.

The Ravenclaw common room was a wide, circular room, airier than any he had ever seen at Hogwarts. Stars twinkled in the domed ceiling overhead that was enchanted to reflect the night sky and bookcases stood wall-to-wall, a myriad of magical knowledge crammed within them.

Jungkook had never felt more at home.

Sorting ceremony

I apologize for the spelling mistakes and for my bad English, it's not my native language. hope you enjoy it, happy reading!

The excitement was at its height, especially among seven young first-graders who had just arrived at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft! They were eager and at the same time afraid to discover the house in which they will be sorted. Soon a stern-looking woman who introduced herself as "Professor Minerva McGonagall" announced a first name:

_Namjoon Kim !

The little boy with dimples and big glasses clumsily made his way through his comrades and hesitated to walk up to the stool where he sat down, legs shaking.

His interview with the patched-up artifact that was the Sorting Hat lasted a minute before it shouted loud and clear:

_RAVENCLAW !

A wave of applause resounded at the blue and bronze table where they welcomed the newcomer to their house.

Silence fell until the next name:

_Seokjin Kim !

Another remarkably handsome young boy walked up to the headmistress of Gryffindor with a confident smile. It was quite surprising coming from a first year, usually, they were mostly paralyzed during their distribution!

He sat down on the stool and began talking to the Sorting Hat. The artifact choked on laughter listening to the jokes of the youngster who began to laugh in his turn with a wiper laugh, but communicative!

_No doubt for you, it will be GRYFFONDOR !

The boy took off the Sorting Hat and went to his new home with a dignified and gracious walk.

_Hoseok Jung ! Call Professor McGonagall.

A new first year joined the stool to sit on it. He wore a bright smile that made him look really endearing. To everyone's surprise, the interview with the magic hat lasted at least seven minutes during which it seemed to hesitate!

_Hum ... This choice was difficult, but finally took. MY BOY, YOU WILL HAVE HUFFLEPUFF I GUARANTEE YOU !

The smiling child joined his delighted black and yellow comrades, and he was greeted warmly!

_Yoongi Min ! Announced the witch.

A young boy with a porcelain complexion and a deeply bored look pulled out of the crowd of students to take a seat next to Professor McGonagall. There, as quickly as lightning, the Sorting Hat gave its verdict with barely brushing his hair.

_SLYTHERIN !

Yoongi had the shadow of a satisfied smile before taking a seat at the green and silver table. After the rigorous applause, silence fell and the distribution could continue. There were not many people left in the group of the early waiting years.

_Taehyung Kim !

He came out of the crowd and hopped up to the stool. He didn't seem to care what others thought of him right now and stayed in his bubble.

When the talking artifact was placed on his head and he started the conversation, the young boy jumped in surprise before bursting into laughter. A long discussion ensued on subjects as strange and fanciful as the others. If Professor McGonagall hadn't put an end to this, he was sure the conversation would have lasted all evening.

Finally the Sorting Hat chosen:

_RAVENCLAW !

Taehyung wished the bewitched headgear a good end of the evening before joining his fellows.

_Jimin Park ! Proclaimed the Transfiguration professor, reading her parchment.

A boy smaller than the other and chubby like an adorable baby walked up, blushing, to the old teacher. When he sat down and the Sorting Hat was placed on his head, the artefact, far too large for its head size, fell over the young man's eyes. Jimin couldn't see anything at all!

So the interview lasted a good five minutes and it was with a satisfied grunt that the Sorting Hat announced:

_SLYTHERIN !

Park Jimin therefore timidly joined the free seat next to the boy named Min Yoongi at the green and silver table.

New names were called out until only one remained which Professor McGonagall hastened to announce:

_Jungkook Jeon !

For the last of the first few years, a boy with a mischievous bunny smile walked over to the stool. A strong sense of dread twisted his insides as the Sorting Hat rested on his head.

The verdict was swift:

_GRYFFONDOR !

The boy excitedly rejoined the members of his household and so the distribution ended.

My Series of BTS and Harry Potter crossover fics. It will be a collection of one-shots, two-shots, drabbles, snippets or chaptered fics all based in Wizarding Worlds of Harry Potter.

As for extracurricular he chose Music and Muggle Music (because he's extremely open-minded and respects any form of art).

He loves to write and produce for any musicals in school. He doesn't sing. Secretly a rapper with the inspiration of Min Yoongi

Kim Seokjin

Hufflepuff

The Eldest

Affectionate towards younger ones

Funny upbeat personality

Someone you can depend upon

Extremely loyal

Can be dangerous if triggered (typical Hufflepuff trait)

Loves food and cooking. He is often seen in the school kitchen happily chatting with the house elves who work there.

He is in the 7th year of his school

He is the commentator of their quidditch matches. With his funny jokes, upbeat moods and amusing puns he is the best commentator Hogwarts has in a while.

But the conventional rules of school doesn't let him perform before other students so he went to Shrieking Shack to practice by himself. He also dragged Namjoon with him to practice.

Bright and warm personality

Happy to help others through his works

Finds joy in everything

Always smiling and hoping for the best

No one ever really saw him angry and to be honest no one really wants to see either because Puffs are notorious when they are angry.

Currently 6th year student in school

He aces in Herbology

Halfblood Wizard (Muggle mother, Wizard father). His mother loves his passion for muggle music and always encourages him.

His optional subject is Muggle studies and extracurricular subjects are Muggle Music. He helps his two best friends in producing music. He's also a good freestyle hip-hop dancer but none other than his friends know that.

Park Jimin

He is an angel

Charming, caring towards his friends, loyal.

Extremely hard worker (During BT21 making Suga said that Jimin's superpower is hard work & that's the typical Hufflepuff trait)

He is in his 5th year of school

His favourite subject is Potions

He chose Music as extracurricular. His voice is Min Yoongi's favourite.

He is also the Seeker of his house's Quidditch team. Everyone says that he is the most graceful Seeker anyone has ever seen.

He is the Keeper and the captain of his quidditch team. Only Oliver Wood is known to become Captain at that young age before him.

His favourite subject is Defence Against Dark Arts. He is a pro in it at such a young age.

His extracurricular favourite is Ghoul Studies for some reason. He likes to know about them.

He is also passionate for Arts and Music subjects and loves to be inspired by his hyungs.

A golden boy in class. He's good at everything.

He wants to pursue the career of a quidditch player in future.

Half-Blood wizard. (Wizard mother, Muggle father)

“Jungkook was considered a true hatsall. After a very long conversation with a lot of ‘hums’, ‘yeses’ and ‘oh I see’, the Sorting Hat declared that the eleven-year-old boy belonged to the Ravenclaw House. Jungkook quickly became an exceptional student, full of creativity and incredibly witty. Above all, he just loved to learn, proving his place in Ravenclaw.

A few years later, Jungkook confessed to you that the Sorting Hat almost sorted him into Gryffindor. However, his Ravenclaw traits were much more stronger. In the end he was glad of that choice.

yes! i was literally obsessed with hp for five(?) years now, which isn’t a lot compared to others, but it’s a fandom i’ve been in the longest LOL so happy to see another potterhead!!

and I WOULD NOT MIND AT ALL!!!! I LOVE HP X BANGTAN OMG (i will eat any hp x bts crossover ff uP)

but to answer your questions,,, this might get a lil long lol

namjoon actually sorted the members in their respective houses a long time ago himself. (not sure if it’s still accurate now, but i think what he wrote back then was all true.) also as a side note, these are my opinions, so you don’t necessarily have to agree with them! and aLSO i think there’s a common misconception going around with new harry potter fans. your hp house is NOT what you are the most—it’s what you VALUE the most! i’ll explain more later

GRYFFINDORS

seokjin

seokjin has always been a bit easy for me to categorize in terms of hp house

he just screams gryffindor to me

he tries to do what’s right

he’s the oldest in the group so he’s always taking care of his younger brother-like figures

he does his best to make sure the other members feel safe and comfortable in new environments (that’s why he cracks so many corny jokes—to break the ice!)

though he’s not the official leader of bangtan, he does a LOT of behind the scenes leadership work

i think seokjin can be mistaken as a hufflepuff (just because he’s so friendly and kind) BUT this is where the values come in. seokjin might have some hufflepuff-like traits, but he actually values the gryffindor traits even more. he values his passions, his confidence, his valiance

he doesn’t take himself too seriously, but he knows what’s right and wrong (great moral compass)

that puts him in gryffindor

namjoon

i’ve literally seen so many pple put joon in ravenclaw just because he has an insanely high iq

but i mean,,, as a ravenclaw myself, i don’t see him in my house

yes, namjoon is creative, yes, he is intelligent, and YES! he is indeed insightful!! BUT,,, it all comes down to his values

namjoon uses his intelligence, his creativity and insight for the good of everyone! he’s a team player (not an individualist, as most ravenclaws tend to be)

and, not to mention, he’s bangtan’s official leader, and he does extremely well with that extra responsibility (gryffindors are great leaders)

namjoon tries so hard to do what’s right

he doesn’t try to cut corners to get to his goals. he’s very moral and fair

he likes peace and justice

gryffindors are drawn to good morals (they’re always trying to fix what’s wrong too)

hoseok

hoseok is so easy for me to categorize, but i’ve seen him be sorted into gryffindor sometimes

i don’t think he’d be in gryffindor, though. hoseok is someone who doesn’t exactly like the idea of *risks*

gryffindors are all about risks (stereotypically they don’t think about the consequences that much because all they want to do is wrong the right)

hoseok (though he is passionate and charismatic) is more fit for hufflepuff

he’s bright, kind and always has something nice to say

the persona he puts on in front of the camera is close to his real personality—he’s just a sunny person in general

what makes him such a hufflepuff is the fact that he’s so hardworking! hoseok just dOES NOT give up (he’s extremely loyal to the people in his life, and he’s loyal to his talents too)

he chased after his dancing talents and look where he is right now

he wasn’t originally a rapper but he practiced and practiced until it became one of his talents

he’s dependable, honest and values friendship

hufflepuffs are people’s persons. and hoseok is just that—A GIFT TO THE PEOPLE

taehyung

taehyung’s the hardest one to put in a house in my opinion. he’s what you’d call *divergent* (and yes, in theory, everyone is divergent. we ALL have traits of ALL FOUR hp houses. BUT there are some people who exemplify all four traits more equally than others. so now, it all comes down to what taehyung values the most)

taehyung, in my eyes, is such a people’s person. that makes him a strong candidate for hufflepuff

the tae that i know has many friends—and he’s extremely good at reading people too (like his vibe check DO BE trustworthy)

hufflepuffs are often underestimated because they’re written canonnly as just being “nice”

hufflepuffs are much more than that. hufflepuffs are essentially gryffindors but with higher eq LOL (hufflepuffs would ONLY right the wrong if righting the wrong didn’t hurt anyone on the ‘wrong’ side—does that even make sense??)

tae is someone i see as extremely trustworthy—he’s someone who’d die WITH your secrets

he’s also very emotionally available to the people in his life

therefore,,, i sort tae into hufflepuff

RAVENCLAW

jungkook

ravenclaws are intelligent, insightful and most of all, they value creativity!!

jungkook is the staple ravenclaw

i can’t see him in any other house

like if i see jungkook, i see ravenclaw. they are literal synonyms

ravenclaws are stereotypically jack-of-all-trades because they genuinely enjoy learning new things

i mean,,, jungkook’s lowkey perfect right? he’s good at everything right? yeah it’s because he has the thirst to LEARN! he wants to be good at everything! that’s such a mf ravenclaw trait

sorry i get so excited explaining about my own house omf

jungkook’s naturally curious; he likes to poke at new things because he wonders what it’ll be like to learn about it and do it himself

ravenclaws are also stereotypically the “artsy” kids (and i mean, this man can DRAW)

ALSO! just because ravenclaws get called jack-of-all-trades often, it doesn’t mean they’re good at EVERYTHING. it means that they’re good at what they’re interested in!! (jungkook doesn’t exactly care too much about math, which is totally fine! he has his other interests)

ravenclaws are smart, yes, but just because you’re smart, doesn’t mean you’re necessarily a ravenclaw. (i.e. hermione isn’t open-minded enough to be ravenclaw.) being a ravenclaw doesn’t mean you just read a lot lol. it means you read a lot AND you take the adventures from the protagonist in the book and then apply it to yourself. hence, the *imagination*

SLYTHERINS

yoongi

yoongi’s also really easy to sort

i mean, the man screams slytherin

a slytherin would do anything (maybe even cross a few rules) to get to his desired end result

some people call it evil (usually gryffindors and hufflepuffs), but i call it working smarter not harder (to slytherins, it’s not immoral to cut a few corners to get to their desired result—if they don’t get caught, that is)

if yoongi were not slytherin, he would not have cut corners in those bts run episode games LMAO (icon behavior)

slytherins also value individuality (like ravenclaws) but in a COMPLETELY different way. ravenclaws love to be unique because with their insight, they conclude that everyone has dealt with different experiences, making them their each, special person. slytherins like to be individualists because they like to feel special (sometimes paired with a superiority/god complex BUT i don’t think that’s necessarily bad. but slytherins do tend to be more close-minded than ravenclaws; slytherins value tradition)

in turn, slytherins find more success than ravenclaws. sometimes, ravenclaws step back when they find that their ideals will be replaced with success. slytherins would rather replace/reform their ideals to find success (i.e. yoongi became an extremely successful idol rapper when he could’ve actually just become a producer instead)

slytherins also tend to have trust issues. they don’t like to trust others except for themselves (smart, really)

yoongi is very self-driven and self-reliant, making him a perfect slytherin candidate

personally, jimin was easy to place in slytherin, BUT i’ve seen a lot of pple put him in hufflepuff

so lemme just refute that for a sec

jimin is very self-orientated (and i’m saying that in the nicest way possible)

he wants to be unique! he wants to be special! he wants to shine!!

jimin’s just a naturally giggly, bubbly person

but behind the scenes (behind the cameras), he beats himself up to be his very best self; slytherin behavior

slytherins are perfectionists, okay? they value what others think of them a lot OR they value the INFLUENCE they have on other people

remember? slytherins are about pOwEr! and power comes in many shapes and forms

jimin likes the idea of being well-liked! he likes the idea of being thought of as charismatic and talented

he may act like a hufflepuff to fit what people want to see in him, BUT the fact that he has to ACT like a hufflepuff to be in people’s favor makes him a slytherin lol (i mean,,, remember his whole FILTER song???)

anyways i wouldn’t call him a staple slytherin (that’s for yoongi) but he’s pretty close to being one

anyways, to answer your other question,,,

i’ve mentioned before that everyone is *divergent*

of course i have all four traits of the hp houses, but the traits aren’t very equal for me. i have all the traits of ravenclaw, hufflepuff aNd slytherin. except i’m not very gryffindor. i have a few gryffindor traits, yes, but i don’t value them as much as my other traits. with that said, it’s hard for me to acclimate in environments where people value things that i don’t necessarily find as important

i think it’d be best for me to be in ravenclaw (just because every ravenclaw i know has been my best friend). i think i’d also do well in slytherin (but sometimes, i can’t handle their intense ambition lol). i’m also a good hufflepuff candidate, but i don’t think i could trade up being a ravenclaw for that

in the end, your house is your choice (it’s what you value the most)

i would like to say i’m friendly, ambitious and creative. but when it comes down to it, i’m picking my creativity and RUNNING. so no, i would not change my house. never! i’m a solid ravenclaw!!

This is sort of a stand-in for all of astolat’s drarry fic, which as a bundle are one of my top fics for the decade. They are fics that feel like instant-classics and the variety of characterizations, stories and tropes helped establish astolat as perhaps my all time favorite fic author. A stunning exploration of magic beyond JKR’s universe. A timeless coming together of two characters. A frankly genius use of a plot device (and something as simple as a school project) to foster an incredibly touching and meaningful relationship, one in which they are not able to find what they need to complete their task until they find what they need in each other. Perhaps the most I’ve ever related to a character in fic. The Niall of this fic lives in my heart, and I feel like reading him helps me understand myself, and everytime I come back to it I understand him better too. It’s a touching portrayal of a character coming to terms with their sexuality in a way that feels completely grounded and who is surrounded by characters who love them, even if they don’t always know how to show it.

It represents a lot of what I was looking for when I started really getting into Drarry fic, which was an exploration of what canon wouldn’t give me. My favorite Drarry fics have always been the ones that let them dig into their shared trauma, and while this fic isn’t the heaviest one I’ve read, I think the fact that it’s set literally hours after the Battle of Hogwarts ends lends itself well to that concept. I couldn’t have a list of the decade without a Drarry fic, tbh.

When I think about fics that set the standard for a fandom, this is one of the first ones that comes to mind. This fic means a lot to me because it was my introduction to RPF, and in addition to its intricate plot and fandom-constructed lore, also was a take on poly relationships and found families in a way I had never experienced before, with themes of belonging and a love that transcends typical convention.

The Twice-Told Tale by arysteia, 2012

This fic hits a sweet spot for me where it does have some of that 2012 tower-fic nostalgia, but I also think it holds up well in terms of what I (and fandom) find so fascinating about Tony, which is all this grief and trauma that he struggles so hard to process, and the way puts himself at the center of attention to obfuscate the fact that he keeps everyone at a long arm’s length.

When I think about this fic I want to scream from every rooftop I’ve ever been on “please read this fic”. The way it weaves together details to provide a level of grounding and realism in what sounds like the most absurd concept for a fic just floors me. The empathy and compassion and fear in this fic just gets at the most tender parts of my heart, and the fact that it’s ostensibly a ship fic, and yet Sid and Geno spend nearly the entire fic with no communication, but instead are just holding on to the innate truth that they know about one another to get them through this crazy endeavour they’re on elevates the entire fic for me.

Dystopia/Spy AU

When I first read this fic, I finished it and I put it down and then I spent a few days feeling like I was just sort of wandering around in a haze because every single thought was consumed by this fic. In addition to its impeccable worldbuilding and the tone work that it does with its setting, I don’t know that I had ever resonated so deeply with fic characters before. Reading this felt like someone had pried my ribcage open one by one and revealed the softest, most tender parts of me and then went “I’m going to write something that targets this.” This fic is an ode to loss and love, to mourning something that you once had and then hesitantly and clumsily opening yourself up to building something new, and recognizing that, impossibly, that new thing you built can somehow be better than what you had before.

And I felt all of these things, I felt like my world had just been shattered by this new author I discovered… and then, somehow, I became her friend. Then through Nic I met Brenna, and now when I think about this fic I not only love it for being a work of art, but also for being representative of the thing that brought me to two of the most important people in my life, and that to me will always make it my favorite fic I’ve ever read.
