Jeongguk fiddled with his phone as he waited for Namjoon to walk into his apartment. He reread their short conversation once again as he sat on the edge of the couch, his leg nervously moving up and down. Namjoon hadn’t given him any hints as to what he had to talk to him about other than that it was about Sarang, but that alone had Jeongguk’s heart racing. Although he knew it couldn’t be anything major he tried to calm himself down, she couldn’t be hurt, if she were Namjoon wouldn’t have waited to tell him.
His head shot up as soon as he heard the front door open and soon Sarang and Namjoon walked through it. Sarang walked a few steps ahead of the older man, her footsteps heavy and an unfamiliar frown on her chubby face as she walked straight past his father and towards her room, leaving a confused Jeongguk to look at his hyung with questioning eyes.
“It was a rough day.” Namjoon sighed, putting down Sarang’s coat and school bag on top of the table before walking to plop down on the couch next to Jeongguk.
Jeongguk shifted his body to face his hyung and bit his lip before he asked, “What did you want to talk about?”
“Right.” Namjoon said, sitting up straight before looking at Jeongguk. “So as you know today I went to pick up Sarang from school, and when I went to her classroom the teacher asked me to stay because she wanted to talk about Sarang.” Jeongguk frowned at his words and nodded, signaling for Namjoon to continue. “He asked me if everything has been well at home. He said that even if it’s none of his business he’d like to know so he can deal with Sarang’s situation accordingly. He didn’t want to-”
Jeongguk cut him off. “What do you mean Sarang’s situation?”
Namjoon rolled his eyes at his interruption. “I was just about to tell you. Listen.” The older sighed and waited for the younger to nod before continuing. “Apparently Sarang has been acting up at school this week. At first they thought it was just one of those phases kids go through where they just misbehave but then she started throwing tantrums and she bit one kid today.” Namjoon explained.
“Sarang bit a kid?” Jeongguk asked in disbelief, it was so hard for him to believe they were talking about his daughter as this was so unlike her.
“I asked the same thing.” Namjoon chuckled, but the seriousness in his face returned only seconds later. “Her teacher said they asked her what was wrong multiple times but she’d only cry and say she wants you or her mommy. They also said she’s been crying every time Y/N drops her off. Now, I’m not a child expert, but I’m sure Sarang’s change in behaviour is due to the Seohee and Y/N situation.”
Jeongguk’s eyes looked away from Namjoon and focused on the deep blue of the night sky through his window. His mind was all over the place, his thought going from how did he not notice her daughter’s behaviour change to what his friends had told him days ago on the groupchat to how his words must have hurt you.
“I know it’s your life and you have the ultimate decision, but I think you made a big mistake here, Guk-ah.” Namjoon said softly, not wanting to upset the younger man. “I understand how much...power Seohee has over you because of your past with her. I know you’re not dumb and I know you always try to see the best in people, and I admire that about you, but sometimes you can’t make a blind eye to the wrongs of others.” He explained, Jeongguk focusing his full attention on his hyung’s words.
Jeongguk respected Namjoon, everyone who knew the younger would know that he admired his hyung’s calm approach on things and how wise he was. Namjoon, knowing this had waited a few days until Jeongguk calmed down to talk to him about the situation at hand, hopefully to try to make him see how big of a mistake he had done.
And now he was getting through to him.
“I know you truly believed Seohee changed but we all know how manipulative she is, I don’t doubt she made her parents think she changes because she knows you trust them.” He sighed again. His voice was calm as he spoke sense into Jeongguk. “I’m sorry to say this, but I don’t think she changed. I think she’s pretending so you will take her back. You’re all she ever wants.” Namjoon shrugged mindlessly with his words. “Taehyung has been your friend for years and Y/N has no reason to lie about Seohee mistreating Sarang. They both love Sarang and they only want what’s best for her, and if they say Seohee isn’t that then I trust them. I think you should too.”
“I fucked everything up, didn’t I?” Jeongguk asked, his eyes filling with tears. “They were right. I focused so much on believing Seohee had changed that I didn’t see that she hadn’t at all. I should’ve paid more attention.” He looked up as he tried to keep the tears from falling, but once Namjoon put his hand on his shoulder, it was useless. “I always fuck up the good things. I was stupid to believe her.” He turned towards Namjoon, his tears falling freely. “Tae is right, Y/N gave me everything and more only for me to trust someone who has broken me before instead of her. I’m such an asshole of a boyfriend.” He spoke softly, almost as if he didn’t want anyone to hear him. “And I’m a shitty father. I didn’t even notice my daughter changing. I should’ve noticed, hyung, I should’ve paid more attention.”
“Come here.” Namjoon simply said as he opened his arms, Jeongguk wasted no time in letting the older man embrace him. “You’re not a shitty father or an asshole of a boyfriend, Guk.” He started as he ran his hand up and down Jeongguk’s back, trying his best to comfort him. “We all make stupid mistakes,” Namjoon started, “but we can’t let them define us, Jeongguk, that would make us stupid. Some people try to hide their mistakes and pretend like they never happened instead of owning up to them and saying, ‘yes, I made a mistake, but this mistake isn’t me’.” He continued, his wise words making Jeongguk look up at him. “I think you should talk to Y/N, tell her this was all a mistake and that you were wrong, that you’re sorry. You love her, right?”
Without an ounce of hesitation he answered, “I really do love her, hyung.” Jeongguk nodded. “I’ll talk to her.”
“I can’t promise you she will forgive you, but if she loves you she will at least understand.”
That same night in yours and Kyungmi’s place, were the three of you were gathered, everything was quiet and the air was filled with excitement and tension as the two older girls waited outside of the bathroom for the you to call them, but after half an hour of no signs of movement inside the bathroom they started to worry.
“Sissy, you okay in there?” Kyungmi asked, voice louder than she intended and filled with worry.
Inside, you sat in the toilet pregnancy tests in hand and face stained with tears, your blurry vision making it harder to read what it said, but you didn’t have to, you already knew what it said.
Kyungmi’s voice brought you back to reality and you stood up from the toilet and started washing your hands and face quickly. “Yeah.” You said barely over a whisper, before you dried your hands and opened the door.
As the door swung open you could see the big smiled in your two best friends which only made you want to cry even more, but you tried not to. No sooner they saw your bloodshot eyes and shaking hands, their arms wrapped around you comfortingly, making you break down.
The two girls walked you towards your bed, where the three of you sat down, the pregnancy tests in your hands long forgotten as they tried to calm you down. It took a few minutes to get you to stop crying, and when you did you couldn’t help but start laughing, further more confusing the girls but they joined you anyway.
As you looked to your hands, you laughs came to a stop. “It’s positive.”
Naeun and Kyungmi looked down at the two tests then at each other and finally at you. Kyungmi’s arm that was already around you tightened and Naeun’s hand started running up and down your thing reassuringly.
“How are you feeling, love?” Kyungmi asked softly, searching for your eyes.
“I don’t know.” You say honestly and look up at them, new tears filling your eyes. “I want to be happy, I really do but how can I be when everything is such a freaking mess?” You asked, not expecting an answer. “Guk…” You started but a hiccup stopped you, “We’re on a break. He’s said things that hurt me and I don’t know if I can forgive him.”
“No one is asking you to forgive him, Y/N.” Kyungmi said, “We know how much his words hurt you and because you’re pregnant with his baby doesn’t mean you have to forgive him.”
“Would he even want the baby?” You asked, a knot forming in your throat as soon as the words came out.
“Of course he would.” Naeun reassured you. “No question. He might act like a stupid ass boy sometimes, but he loves you and he would love that baby as well.”
Kyungmi looked at you carefully, trying her best to read the emotions your face showed, but it proved to be harder than she thought. “Look sissy, I’m gonna be honest here.” You looked at her and waited for her to speak. “He hurt you, yes. He was an asshole, yes. You have every right to not forgive him and continue with your life with the only thing connecting you to him being this baby and Sarang, but I have never seen you so happy as you were with him. What you two had isn’t common. Please think carefully of what you want to do about all of this.” She smiled softly. “Whatever you decide to do I will be here to support you.”
“Kyungmi is right, Y/N.” Naeun continues, you eyes focusing on her now. “Guk loves you more than I can explain. I’m not saying that he was right or anything because he was an asshole and he was so stupid for doing and saying all those things.” She sighed, her head shaking a bit. “And I’m not saying you should forgive him, but, as Kyungmi said, you should really think about it. I think that what you two had is worth saving.”
Later that night, when Namjoon had already left and Jeongguk had calmed down he walked towards his daughter’s room, where the girl was already sleeping. He chuckled at the sight of Sarang sprawled on her bed and her hand under her cheek, making it look that much chubbier. He walked towards her dresser and took out a new set of pyjamas before sitting down on the bed next to her and setting on changing her out of her street clothes and into the more comfy material.
“Daddy?” She asked, voice laced with sleep and little fists going to rub her eyes.
“Yeah, baby? I’m just changing you into your pjs.” He answered, voice soft as he stopped her from rubbing too hard.
“I miss mommy.” She said looking up at him, her lip quivering. “Why doesn’t she stay with us anymore?”
“Because daddy made a very big mistake and hurt her feelings.” He simplified for his five year old, making her frown and shake her head.
“Daddy, you don’t hurt the people you love.” She reprimanded him, making him chuckle.
“I know. I was very silly, wasn’t I?” She nodded at his question. “I’ll try to fix it, okay? I’m sorry, Sarang, I know not having Y/N here hurt you.”
“It’s okay daddy.” She sat up and pecked his cheek. “You said sorry so it’s okay. I love you.”
He hugged her close to him. “I love you too, Sarang.”
