If Tommy hadn't kissed Buck in 7x04 I don't think Buck would have realized he was attracted to him. Oliver has said that Buck has felt this way before and Buck has always been bisexual, he just didn't realize it and it was the kiss that prompted that realization, not just Buck's crush on Tommy. If it was just the crush on Tommy Buck would have realized he was bisexual way earlier.

Just today Oliver said that Buck was probably attracted to Eddie when he first met him and he didn't know what those feelings were or how to process them, so he acted out.

The difference between Buck meeting Eddie and Buck meeting Tommy is that Tommy is queer and knows it and can see the signs and signals that Buck didn't even realize he was putting out there so he kissed Buck. That was the moment Buck realized he wasn't straight.

And throughout the episode Buck is shown to be jealous of not just Tommy, but also of Eddie. There are so many moments in that episode that make you wonder who he's jealous of and why.

Is he jealous of Eddie for spending time with Tommy, this cool new person they met? Yeah. Is he jealous of Tommy for spending time that he views as his with Eddie? Yep. Is he concerned that Tommy might be taking his place in not just Eddie's life, but in Christoper's? Yes. Is he just general confused because he's feeling some type of way that he really doesn't understand? For sure.

It isn't as cut and dry as "Tommy was Buck's bisexual awakening" full stop, because we've heard Oliver say that Buck has always been bi he just understands it now. We've heard him say that Buck was attracted to Eddie when he first met him but didn't understand it. We heard Buck tell Maddie he checks out hot guys asses.

I fully believe that if Tommy hadn't kissed Buck in the loft that night that Buck would have written his weird feelings off as just new friend stuff like he probably felt for Eddie and has felt for other men but didn't understand and eventually he would have gotten over it.

Tommy's kiss was the catalyst for Buck realizing he isn't straight, but it wasn't just Tommy that made that realization possible - it was Buck's entire life that did. It was him talking to his sister and her affirming him and helping him understand that checking out a hot guys ass isn't abnormal, but it isn't straight. It was Buck looking back at his past feelings for men and realizing that they're similar to the crush he has on Tommy.

And this isn't me devaluing Tommy in Buck's coming out arc, because without that kiss Buck likely wouldn't be here yet. But I think saying it was all about Tommy and Buck's jealousy in 7x04 was only about Tommy is doing a disservice to the nuance of the episode and Buck's sexuality in general.

i feel like people are way too hyperfocused on buddie and buddie alone when abc making buck bi at all is already such a win. i’ve seen a frankly alarming amount of social media comments acting as if abc has committed some horrible treason by not canonizing buddie as soon as possible. no matter how you think endgame is going to go, i think we can agree that tommy’s been a good influence on buck in this time of vulnerability. it’s only been two episodes and he’s already shaping up to be THE best love interest buck has ever had— maybe even the best one on the entire show that wasn’t already a fully fleshed character/part of an established relationship. ali, taylor, ana, marisol, natalia, they all feel very superficial and temporary in a way that tommy doesn’t and for one, im super fucking excited to see where they take the relationship.

My theory is maybe at start of last episode of season 7 (or beginning of season 8). Where? On Eddie’s couch and they are catching up like they always do. Not drunk but maybe few beers in and when they sit back laughing about their week/shift/time off.. idk one of them can’t take it turns to other the leans over kissing them once the beers get set on the table.

I hope 🤞it’s not during the hungover/wedding episode .. I don’t want their first kiss to be drunk and don’t want it when Buck is with Tommy (aka cheating but guess technically they not officially boyfriends but still hanging out.. with him so feels wrong.) But maybe they almost after karaoke cuz drunk but get stopped when Hen walks over sitting between them. Then they don’t think anything of it but something is off like they feel it all day the next day after looking for Chimney.. and then when Chimney is at wedding and then at the after party / dance floor they keep looking at each other. But yeah not that episode..

The….the best love interest? He made a snide comment about closet space and almost outed Buck to Eddie and Marisol because of it. Left him standing in front of the restaurant after letting him think the date was continuing because he couldn’t communicate properly (which is very Taylor Kelly like and to various degrees all his other LI as well) And then never even apologized. But Buck had to. As usual. The delusion is strong with this one I fear.

ehhhh, i’d argue that the closet space comment was both relevant to the current conversation and only recognizable as having a double meaning to buck. eddie and marisol are talking about extra furniture, such as an armoire, tommy says closet space isn’t a bad thing. 100% an innocent comment to the two of them when they have zero reason to consider it anything else. and tommy kind of has a decent reason for saying it.

later, tommy says he doesn’t hide who he is, which is pretty significant when you consider the oppressive environment of the american military and the 118 under captain gerard— he’s probably come a long way to being open about being queer. i know i wouldn’t appreciate my date shoving both of us back into the closet. not just keeping the date in the down low: actively going out of their way to make us both look straight.

buck is clearly just learning about his own sexuality, but tommy’s not wrong when he says buck might not be ready to start dating if this is how jumpy he’s going to be about being public as a couple. buck definitely doesn’t have to come out to everyone around them and start waving rainbow flags around, but tommy has a right to decide that he doesn’t want to be in a relationship with someone who’s clearly not quite comfortable being seen as gay yet (the self-conscious looking around at the restaurant, the awkward insistence that he’s an ally, the panicked explanation that he and tommy are going to pick up hot chicks, etc.)

i did clock it as a bit abrupt when tommy left, but it’s not like he just up and ran or ghosted buck with no explanation— he turns visibly distant after eddie and marisol show up, orders the car, tells buck he doesn’t think he’s ready, and goes. not a crime to be honest, and i think taylor blueballing buck in a parking lot for a news story was a lot higher on the shitty moves scale than this.

This is kinda revolutionary? Just a few years ago destiel was queerbaiting fans to superhell but now? NOW? A show saw the fans HC a character as queer with valid evidence and instead went "you know what? You're right. We didn't originally plan this for them but we see you". Then four episodes into the season, canonized his queerness. Not the last second, Not the last Episode. the BEGINNING of the season, with time to expand AND we know we're getting another season after this. Just look how far we've come.
