BUCK: When I first got my ADHD diagnosis, my first thought was “woah… it’s canon” and I think that maybe thoughts like that is why Eddie made me get tested.

Now that we have canon buck being bi I reallyyyyy wish they would address his adhd and discuss his RSD. like was it ever addressed by therapy?? I wish someone was like you clearly need to address this buddy :|
i hope they talk about it! i know Oliver has acknowledged Buck having ADHD before, but i would love to see it be canonically confirmed that Buck has ADHD! and this is coming from someone who just recently discovered that i have it and am still relearning pretty much everything about myself and what i thought was normal before.

i know people are good because of this: the universe often assigns me side quests. in a circular strangeness; despite my inability to locate my-own-anything, i am almost-always finding someone else's lost things. dogs, coats, phones, cash, laptops. it happens so often it's almost tiring; suddenly being looped into a tiny amount of detective work.
but when i'm with other people who are not used to this: the response is almost invariably delight. yes, maybe they are simply thrilled by the mystery. it's just... they light up so much. i think maybe more... i think they like the opportunity to do something kind.
a few weeks ago, i was at a bar and i found a wallet as soon as we stepped outside. i felt nervous to ask for help, worried i would be holding up the night. i picked it up and said go on without me, i should help this get back to its home.
instead, three people pulled out their phones - to find him on facebook, to help cancel his credit cards. two people went back into the bar to tell the bartender, two others went calling down the street. group texts, facebook posts, instagram stories. people, without even seeing what happened, start offering help to me. fifteen minutes and: someone knows someone who knows the guy. the cheer that went up - just for finding him, just for this small thing. someone gets him on the phone. strangers dance around me, hopping on their feet - are you the girl that found that wallet? good for you, that's a good thing you're doing/same thing happened to me and somebody did what you're doing and i thank god everyday for people like you/i can't believe you found him so fast this is so exciting
i gave it back to him in a parking lot. i watched his shoulders sag with relief. there was cash in it still - he checked the pocket, and then sheepishly held the money out to me. i didn't take it. i held up my hands. "it's no problem, man. i know you'd do the same for me."
i don't know him, to be honest. i don't know if he is the same kind of person i am. but he nodded at me.
and i know people are good. i know people are good, because the way this story ends isn't surprising. we wave goodbye awkwardly. my friend loops their arm around me.
"i can't believe we got it back to him," they said. "i'm going to be riding that high for weeks."

okay so obviously the way tommy didnt step in for hen and chim in the past isnt great right?
however, we now know he was actually queer all along, so it actually makes perfect sense to why he wouldve kept his head down and been quiet? he was SEEING the ramifications of what being openly queer/different from the others wouldve meant for him, through their treatment of hen and chim.
he was protecting himself.

headcanon that bucky is only still (cause of his adhd) when buck is near or touching him.
his concentration is the best when they’re getting down to it 😅😅 he’s just too horny for buck for it to not take up all his attention
( i have adhd so this isn’t offensive!!)
Omg ADHD twins heehehehe. This is so true I’m a firm believer in their touch to the other is so powerful. Both of them have this like magic touch. (NSFW under the cut!) Hope you enjoy!!! Likes and reblogs highly appreciated!

•I cannot even imagine the things John would hyperfixate on…
•Well I lied Gale Cleven is his hyperfixation.
•He definitely has had a life long hyper fixation on unicorns. They’re his favorite animal! He has lots of little unicorn figurines.
•John defiantly can’t sit still (same)
•he’s always bouncing his leg and is fidgeting with something.
•Gale actually starts wearing a fidget ring just for John. He’s already constantly playing with his fingers, John didn’t even notice when he got the fidget ring. It was just there one day.
•John struggles a lot in math and science. So Gale helps him with his homework and he’s always really patient with John.
• John felt tears beginning to well up in his eyes as Gale explained the fraction equation to him another time. He couldn’t process a word that Gale said to him while walking him through it again.
“Okay, does that make sense? Or should we do another one?” Gale looked up at John and saw the tears beginning to glaze over his eyes and the way he bit down on his lip, “Why don’t we take a break, yeah?” Gale set his pencil down and gently took the pink glittery pencil out of John’s hand.
“Come here,” Gale held his arms out for him. John silently got up and sat down in Gales lap as the tears began to shed down his cheeks and he let out a small whine.
“I feel so stupid.” John sniffled wiping his tears away with the cuff of his hoodie only for them to come back like rushing water through a broken dam.
“Hey, don’t say that about yourself. You’re not stupid, everyone has a hard time with something.”
•Gale defiantly uses sex as a reward for John getting good grades…
•Gale helps him study and they do flash cards together.
•Sometimes Gale strip teases him while he’s quizzing John…
• “Buck! Buck!” John came racing down the hall out of his math class as soon as the bell rang. Taking two steps at a time as he high tailed it to where Gale would surely be at his locker.
“Slow down, Cowboy!” Gale basically caught him as he almost knocked some poor freshman girl to the floor.
“Look!” John pointed excitedly at the B in red ink at the top of his math test.
“Good job! I told you, you could do it!”
•Gale defiantly fucked him into oblivion that night.

ADHD information for fanfic writers:
Diagnostic Process:
the diagnostic process is different in every country, but this is a basic overview
- an ADHD referral can come from any type of doctor, unlike referrals for other neurodivergences
- the wait list depends on where you live and how old you are. typically the younger you are, the shorter the wait
- ADHD has to be diagnosed by a psychiatrist or by a doctor who has taken a specialized course to be certified in diagnosing and handling ADHD
- most doctors will make you fill out a questionnaire about your mental health. these questionnaires involves sections about family history, personal history, and statements that you have to agree or disagree with
- a good psychiatrist won’t diagnose you with ADHD during your first visit. they will instead spend the first few visits getting to know you and the state of your mental health
- most people are assessed for depression when being assessed for ADHD. this is because depression can present itself in similar ways. if diagnosed with depression and open to medication, the psychiatrist will first prescribe antidepressants and see how those affect you before moving on with the ADHD assessment
Meds:
- most ADHD meds are taken in the morning since they normally wear off after 8-12 hours
- when meds wear off we go through what’s known as a “crash” or “medication rebound”
- ADHD crashes are pure hell which is why some people with ADHD choose to only take meds during the week or they do nothing on the weekend as a reset of sorts
- basically, when our meds wear off all of our symptoms come back at the same time and we get overstimulated to the point of exhaustion
- some people have smaller doses of their meds that they take at the beginning of the crash. this means they can prolong the crash by a couple hours
- for some people, the first time taking meds is hell. the change is very noticeable and abrupt. i wouldn’t stop talking because it was “too quiet” (it being my mind)
- your dosage is not based on body type or weight and just because you take a high dose in one drug doesn’t mean you take a high dose in all others (my ADHD meds are 10mg higher than the highest prescribed amount but my antipsychotics are .5mg lower than the lowest prescribed dose)
- vyvanse is most often prescribed to people with combo ADHD, ritalin to those with hyperactive ADHD (especially those with impulsivity issues), and adderall for inattentive (no, this is not something that is typically disclosed or well-known but if you’ve talked to enough people w/ ADHD you begin to see a pattern) other ADHD meds are available but less likely to be prescribed
- other meds are also taken into account when getting a prescription for ADHD. vyvanse is the most versatile and is usually the one prescribed if you’re on other medications
- ADHD meds are stimulants which means doctors will never give you refills (if they do, they could lose their license)
- since they’re stimulants, for the first year you have to go to the psychiatrist’s bi-weekly for the first few months, then monthly after that so they can see how you are doing
- ADHD meds are known for lowering sex drives and increasing hunger (sometimes the opposite may happen, as with most drugs, but these are most common)
- it takes about 1/2 hour to an hour for meds to kick in and many of us are able to tell the exact moment they start working
Other Substances:
- the neurons and chemicals in the body of an ADHD person are fucked. this means that many substances and medications have either no effect on us, or the opposite effect of what they are intended for
speaking from personal experience:
- caffeine makes me tired
- melatonin and other sleeping aids like dextromethorphan, which can be found in many cough syrups, make me hyper
- weed makes me feel lighter, but it never affects me more than that. i never get a “proper high” like other people (ie; i find no more joy or fascination in bright colours or moving objects than i usually do)
- while “sugar highs” in general are a myth, they’re real for people with ADHD! they stimulate our dopamine and opioid receptors which gives us a burst of energy
- additionally, people with ADHD are more likely to be addicted to illegal stimulants like cocaine because it calms them down (yup, you read that right. when someone with ADHD does cocaine their mind quiets and they mellow down instead of the usual hyper-active high that neurotypicals get)
Additional Information:
- we’re lacking some of the neurotransmitters in our brains so it takes us longer to process information, and we have “more” thoughts than neurotypicals since our additional thoughts aren’t processed out
- we get what’s called “executive dysfunction” or “ADHD paralysis” where we are physically unable to do things despite no real physical limitations (for non-ADHD folks: try putting your hand in fire. you’ll notice that you are either physically unable to or that your body somewhat restrains you from doing it. this is what executive dysfunction is like. for ADHD folks: do not try this since we’re also less likely to have self-preservation instincts)
- basically, i can sit for hours thinking about doing the dishes, screaming at myself in my head to just do them, but i’m still unable to
- we leave trails! we have so many thoughts going through our head that we forget them all the time, so when we get a thought like “i think the printer is low on paper, i should check” we abandon all tasks in favour of the new thought. however, the remains of those tasks stay where we left them, and thus, an ADHD trail is made
- we have both the worst and best memory of anyone you will ever meet. i might be able to tell you the exact outfit you wore on a specific day five years ago but i won’t remember what i ate for breakfast
- when we get bored, we get depressed. like, life is meaningless and i want to curl up in a ball and die depressed. sometimes we need someone to physically force us out of bed to get us out of our funk (and sometimes all it takes to get out of the funk is doing something fun which makes us feel ridiculous when we think about how depressed we were prior)
- since boredom is detrimental to us, we have to constantly be having fun which, in and of itself, is not fun. this is also why a lot of us end up doing shift work or working dangerous jobs
- we’re adrenaline junkies. this isn’t even a “most of us” situation, it’s all of us. the only difference is how we get that adrenaline. (some get it by jumping out of a plane, others get it by working on assignments in a time crunch)
- we’re social beings. even if we’re introverts, we thrive on social interactions. without them our dopamine plummets and we, once again, get depressed
- all silences are awkward to us. it doesn’t matter if you’re the person we’re most comfortable with in the world, silence is always awkward. or, more specifically, we feel like we need to fill it which is why we often ramble
obviously there’s far more to ADHD than just this and everything can change person by person but i hope this helps to gain a bit more of a general understanding on ADHD

eddie diaz is a secret swiftie and he has a playlist full of songs that make him think of buck and he cries every time he hears Best Day bc it makes him think of chris growing up and whenever he posts on instagram (literally once every three months) he uses taylor swift lyrics that he keeps in a note on his phone as the captions (he doesn’t know how to lock the note so it’s labeled “grocery shopping”) and when he and buck fight/argue he tries to see how often he can sneak a taylor swift lyric into the conversation. buck surprises him with a set of all her cd’s for christmas one year and tickets to the eras tour. (yes eddie still uses cd’s he insists they sound better) chris loves listening to his dad serenade buck in the kitchen with taylor swift when they think he’s asleep. after the All Too Well (taylor’s version) (the 10 minute version) is dropped the entire family refuses to watch any jake gyllenhall movies. eddie saw the headlines about taylor swift and joe alwyn breaking up and made buck text taylor kelly to see if she could confirm if it was true.
buck is an edm fan and a huge raver bc the beep boop noises help his adhd. he’s PR’d like 7 times listening to subtronics in the gym. he and chris make kandi together and when chris hands him a “rave dad” kandi he cries. he drags eddie to a lowkey rave and they take chris to another smaller one before they’re convinced to take a week off and take chris to lost lands once he turns 13. eddie volunteers his time as a medic to festivals in LA while buck runs off and makes tons of friends. buck wears mesh tops and body glitter while eddie wears a dj shirt with shorts (“why are the inseams on these like 3 inches buck?” “you have to be a little bit slutty it’s a rave!!”) chris loves being on bucks shoulders to see the stage and with most festivals being accessible and chris being cute they oftentimes make their way to the rail and can headbang together. chris falls in love with the scene and surprises his dad and his buck with a 60 minute set of taylor swift remixes for their anniversary after they get him equipment one year for his birthday.
Idk man sometimes i think and this is what happens

Late night thought inspired by me being unreasonably excited about getting my fifth COVID vaccine, because five is a respectable number, don'cha know.
They should release a collectors set for vaccines.
Vaccines are incredible, but they do involve being stabbed with a needle, which understandably many people are not enthused about. I think a neat sticker book you fill in as you collect 'em all would go a long way toward increasing vaccination rates.
And for yearly stuff like flu, we could do a blind box! You know how much cooler it would be to go get the flu shot if it came with a box that holds one of six themed Shiba Inus?? Vaccine exclusive. You can only get it by getting poked, baby.

The hilarious thing about buck reading self help books is that if Buck has ADHD like many of us suspect (and Oliver himself has recognised why we think it) then those things are gonna be the most useless things he’ll ever buy - because they are not written for us neurodivergents they generally only make us feel worse about ourself and can lead to spiralling stress response meltdowns (which it very much sounds like Buck is going to go through)!!

At Another Place In Time You Were Infinitely Mine
In which Buck’s coma dream bleeds into his regular dreams, he wishes that it was his reality, and Eddie can’t forget the feeling of Buck’s ribs breaking beneath his hands. *Canon divergent after the lightning strike*
Buck/Eddie. Alternating POV. Currently rated M
"Why do we keep coming back to this?" Eddie grumbled, finally giving into the urge to cross his arms. Frank shrugged lightly. "It wasn't me who came back to this. You mentioned nightmares, I asked what they were about, you said they were about Buck, so I asked what about these dreams is so distressing that you've been unable to use the coping skills you've learned." Eddie glared at a streak on the window across the room. He waffled between answering Frank's question or just pivoting to something else entirely. As tempting as the latter option was, Eddie was pretty sure he was running out of 'get out of jail free' cards for that kind of thing. "I don't know why I can't use those same skills. It's just…it's Buck! Isn't it weird to use coping skills I needed from literal war for my…for my best friend?"  "Trauma is trauma, Eddie," Frank said simply. "The brain truly doesn't know the difference between traumas. All it knows is that something triggered it to fall out of homeostasis so drastically that the lizard brain needed to take over. Be it war, or watching a friend die in front of you. Sure, the things that you need to re-regulate might be different, but it's worth trying a familiar starting point." Eddie flinched at a friend dying in front of you. Frank quirked an eyebrow and continued, "So what do you think you need in those moments? Breathing? Grounding? Distractions?"  The realization walloped Eddie directly in the chest when he thought about what Frank said for just a moment. He groaned and let his head drop to the back of the couch, his glare shifting to the ceiling. Frank waited him out until he finally said in a small voice, "in those moments…I just need him." For some reason the revelation felt equal parts like a star bursting behind his ribs and a damnation at the same time. Naturally, a panic attack had to follow.
Chapter 7 is live now! Read here.
I am honestly living for all of the comments just begging Buck and Eddie to communicate. We'll get there folks! Just a little more pining...
