I have more unhinged thoughts about Buck and costume design choices, so stay with me for a bit. I will be using Buck's previous relationships to make the point tho, so tw Taylor Kelly.
This started going around my head in a very innocent "it's so cool that they chose to put Buck in green during the coma dream" because Buck wears red a lot. Like, a LOT.
Tumblr media
And green is on the other side of the color wheel. So him in green during the coma dream deeply bothered me for no reason.
Tumblr media
Because like, when Buck is wearing bright colors he's usually around here on a color wheel because there's the burnt orange he wears sometimes too. So they put him in his complementary color, and the whole thing with complementary colors is to create contrast and I was mindblown by that a little bit once it registered.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But then I was making an edit and I noticed that Buck is wearing green when he breaks up with Taylor. Which is fine, we all know the whole Blue and Green thing with couples in 911, right?
Tumblr media
So I just moved on with the idea that they put him in green because the relationship is wrong and moved on, until I noticed he wasn't always the green character. Because then shit gets interesting.
Tumblr media
Because, when does he become the green character? When he tells her that he kissed someone else. So he's the one wearing green when the relationship starts to fall apart and when they break up.
Tumblr media
And that alone for me is fascinating because oh my god the costume department is out there working overtime. But I am a dog with a bone and what's another time where Buck is wearing green? The fight with Ali. Who's also wearing blue, very light blue but still blue.
Tumblr media
But also just accepted this as just a blue and green thing with couples because Ali is not around enough for me to use her to establish a pattern.
But I was also on high alert about other situations he might be wearing green, not that all of them fully registered until this morning when it finally clicked that he's wearing green on the cemetery scene.
Tumblr media
Because another time he's wearing green on his own is when he takes Red to see Cindy and when he talks to Maddie about Abby and being left behind right after. Also when he's hiding in Eddie's place so he won't have to talk to Taylor.
Tumblr media
I don't know about yall but I feel like this does establish a pattern of him wearing green while doing misguided stuff in his chase of his idea of romantic love.
But I have more points if you're not convinced yet.
We established that he wears a lot of red and that the thing with complementary colors is contrast, right? I'm not gonna sit here and tell you that there's a set pattern on when he wears red because he wears red in multiple circumstances, but I will tell you a few scenes that back me up.
Because baby boy is wearing red when he finally lets go of Abby, on both occasions, and when he's literally talking to Maddie about what love really means leading to him finally making the right choice to stop hanging on to Taylor.
Tumblr media
He wears red when he finally does the right thing when it comes to love and he wears green when he's trying to convince himself he's doing the right thing. Contrast.
This show is crazy. Insane. Absolute madness.
Edit:
Okay, extra point here. I went against adding this particular scene because I legit can't tell if his shirt is green or blue here. But I got a reply here and decided to check.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so it went to color-hex to try and determine it, well, this is definitely a shade of green. I actually made a whole pallete of his shirt. This is definitely green.
Tumblr media
So another point to team he does misguided shit on his quest for love in green clothing because this is the scene where he's telling Maddie about Abby and Maddie is telling him that she's bagging other guys but he chooses to ignore it.
Am i crazy? probably. But what's that thing once is a chance twice is a coincidence and three is a pattern? Thats 4 scenes with the green and him doing stupid shit in the name of love.

I have burning Buck and Eddie questions,
I mean, I've come to terms with the bad storytelling, the repeated patterns and unfinished, at least in a satisfying way, thoughts displayed on the screen for the entire characters. (Hen's medical adventure, the friction that was between Buck and Chimney, Athena's dad, Bobby and Athena's honey moon (you can't tell me that that frame out of nowhere in the end of the episode said anything, it looked like it slipped in accidentally in editing.) and so many other things that will take me at least two posts to cover.)
But back to my Buck and Eddie questions,
Why?
Why have that couch flirting convo in the beginning of the season?
Why this entire domestic vibe? The fully baked lasagna after three tries? - It was perfect and it was ready and it smelled great.
In parallel to Marina from Station 19, when Maya (this very season) while in therapy, brought Carina a lasagna that gave her food poisoning. Because she was in a hurry when she baked it, that she brought it to Carina before it was ready.
Which, in correct writing world, means Carina and Maya are at a stage they're are not ready to get back together, they need a little more baking (Maya, more time in therapy, and Carina to trust her again) before they are fully baked - ready to get back together.
Buck's lasagna was perfectly cooked! And he served it to Eddie and Christopher.
Is that to say that the lightning strike spoiled Buck? (who apparently is the lasagna in this analogy somehow) and suddenly he's not ready anymore? Maybe he needs one more try before getting with Eddie? but that's beyond three tries - Abby, Ali, Taylor. Death girl makes four, so wth?
Is Marisol representing third try? Shannon, Ana, Marisol. I that what we're waiting for?
Because Eddie seemed ready, after the hospital, after roaming the halls like a ghost until Buck returned to him. - And in full, because they drew so close together after that, to the point that Eddie and Christopher spent their extra time with Buck, in his loft, on the wooden chairs at that wooden table, and none of it seems comfortable, and there's no couch, but Buck was home.
They were comfortable and happy with him.
And he is comfortable with them, happy to have them there.
He couldn't find the peace and quiet and space to heal in his own apartment, it kept getting intruded (I'll circle back to that later) so he found his refuge at Eddie's, he was asleep the second he rested on Eddie's couch, Eddie is home, Eddie is safe.
And the writers made it a glaring point that IT IS Eddie, because Christopher isn't part of the scene, so it's not the second parent here, it's Eddie's partner, his not yet but should be spouse.
In 6x13, we have the glaring parallel between Denny's bio father with Hen and Karen finding out, to Buck being entrusted with Christopher without needing Eddie there to supervise. (going all the way to S3 btw.)
What was that??
Now if it was the only interaction for that episode, I'd chalk that up to fathers and father figures and leave it at that.
But it wasn't - It was preceded by a freakishly domestic scene with all three of them and that POKER DATE - Because it was a date and you can't tell me otherwise.
Both unbelievably dressed up, Eddie looking at Buck like he's his entire world, like he's the only one in that room!
And he timed the exact time down to the second (like Chimney timed the time it would take help to arrive if Maddie gave birth at home and something went wrong) that Buck was dead. - The exact time Buck left Eddie, broken hearted, not breathing, looking like someone ripped his heart out and wheeled it away with Buck.
And Buck looked just as smitten in that poker game, he was having a good time, and seemed completely in awe of this new piece of information about Eddie.
He also glances back a bit in Eddie's direction when he says the exact time Buck was dead, if they were alone, would Buck have asked him or tell him like Maddie told Chimney? "You timed it." - Because that was the essence of that look.
What was the point of that episode??? - It cemented the Buckley-Diaz family so hard, that it was so hard to ignore.
But Eddie says in that episode, when the three were sitting together and he went full-Buck on the research of the side effects of lightning strikes victims. - He says that there was a guy who was struck by lightning and "the lights would turn on and off every time he walked into a room."
Which is the definition of how Eddie sees Buck, especially now after he died and came back and let them drew him closer to the Diaz boys.
But Eddie also said "But it didn't last." - "Only lasted a few weeks."
A few weeks, until Buck met Natalia - who "sees" him.
In between, we have Pepa trying to set Eddie up, but (aside from the fact that Buck's reaction was to ghost her) he wanted to let Venessa down easy, but she beat him to it.
When he says "You don't want to break abuela's heart."
She answers, "Or mine. You understand."
And he did, he does understand. And he was content to move on from there, thinking he wasn't alone, until the funeral scene and then the cemetery where Buck snuffs completely that light he brought with him and tells Eddie that Natalia "sees" him, better than anyone, better than himself.
Was that the writers way to tell us that it was pining Eddie era? that Buck is in crisis?
Because after Eddie was shot he got together pretty immediately with Taylor, after Eddie left he kissed Lucy, now he's dating Natalia after almost dying? A death doula? talk about morbid.
What was the point of that romance? If you can call it that?
In between we have wedding talks, and smores, and Christopher falling asleep on the couch while Eddie goes to get some smores in perfect imitation of Buck, and buddie sitting impossibly closer in the truck while talking about proposals and that damned camera moving to Eddie and Buck when Bobby says "It means you two were meant to be." - Like WTF?
Also, Why would we like Natalia for Buck if her reaction to learning about his life is to walk away as fast as her legs would take her??
And remember when I talked about intruding in the beginning (in connection to 6x12)? Well here we are again.
We have at first Cameron barging in (like Connor, in 6x12) and load all her problems with the other problem child in her life and then in 6x18, Buck leaves the door open for the paramedics, but Natalia barges in through the doors, and then also goes as far as asking if they shouldn't wait for the professionals, either forgetting Buck is a firefighter and is trained for it or doubting him even before they started something together, instead of asking him "have you done this before?" or "Do you know what you're doing?"
That would have gone over way better than looking for outside help inside someone else's apartment who gives you clear instructions of how you can help, it's pretty obvious that he at least half knows what he's doing.
And what the hell was it that made him ask the woman who not, say around three hours ago? came back into his life after leaving him to his mess (Ana, anyone?), to pick out a couch with him?? like wtf?
Like what was the point of it?
Now that I've covered Buck, I'm back to heartbroken Eddie, and don't tell me he wasn't on some level. That look he gave Buck at the cemetery, tells a long and painful story, the one where the bottom line is that he is not enough.
For the first time, in a really long time, Eddie is not enough to the one person who made him feel like he's everything.
Buck saved his life more than once, he SAT with him when he was going through A HARD TIME! (bathena parallels - scream with me!)
What is happening?
In complete rehearse of S4 - Eddie is going for help to everyone but Buck.
This time, it takes the shape of Bobby, on that father in-law, trip to the hardware store, where Bobby gives Eddie the right answer, but Eddie is not ready, not willing or doesn't think it will help to accept it.
Because that person that Bobby was paralleling to Athena ( in a vague way, of course) is Buck, and Eddie knows that too. - He says "So you definitely weren't looking for it." Eddie didn't look for Buck, he found him, he made Buck like him, made him his friend, his co-parent, his pretty much everything.
Because without Buck, Eddie has always floundered, looking for some anchor in the dark, whichever form it may come. - And while Ana came out of nowhere and Eddie was not yet aware of the potential of him and Buck and was stuck in the heteronormative narrative of a "Boy needs his momma" concept, he's well aware now.
Without Buck to steady him, he clings to the next person, who is "right in front" of him, and that is Marisol. It doesn't make her right for him, it just makes her there.
Now, how in the hell did they exchange numbers but talked for the first time weeks after everyone healed (except for Buck, somehow, lol), when in 6x17 Eddie was walking away, is beyond me, maybe telepathically. 🤷‍♂️ - And that "Like a date?" - that awkward first conversation is incomprehensible to me, you've talked, you've exchanged numbers, why does it feel like it's the first time?
Also that rescue in 6x18, I have a lot of medical and procedural questions about that half baked (like Maya's lasagna) scene, but what bugged me the most, was the lack of emotion.
Buck's entire family was in danger, and Buck is being entirely too cold about it? No. Buck wears his heart on his sleeve.
So where is the checking on Eddie as soon as possible, just to make sure he's breathing normally? Where's the hovering over Bobby?
Or going in the ambulance with Chimney? Or calling his sister? Why is Athena the one handling Eddie so gently, but not his best friend?
Where is the emotion? In season 1 Buck said he didn't want to be that red eyed robot, he wanted to be able to feel everything, where did that go? Has Buck resorted to working with his head instead of his heart? Is that the reverting back to Buck 1.0? Not because Buck 1.0 didn't feel anything, it's that he didn't want to get close to anyone who could leave him.
Is that what it is? Because the only real emotion Oliver gave us for that episode, was when held Buck's baby for that split second then handed him to Cameron. - There, and gone.
Now both JLH and Oliver stark are masters at making people FEEL things, tear up with them, why not here? What was the mechanics behind that emergency?
It wasn't interim captain Buck - that was Hen ("Hen that's you"), So what was that??
I have so many question, a lot of WHY, and WHAT, and WTF?? and a variety of WH questions. My mind is a confused mess, if buddie is nonexistent, explain this to me.
Go back to that gut wrenching scene in 2x08 (BUCK ACTUALLY) and make that journey with me up to those confusing 15 minutes of 6x18. - And explain this to me in a way that doesn't sound like stubborn blindness among other things, how buddie is only in our heads?!
If you've managed to get this far, thank you.
Sorry if I insulted someone but seriously this is driving me crazy.
Sending comforting hugs to this beautiful and nutty fandom 🤗❤

911 Spoilers Season 2: You’ve been warned. 😅
Episode 8-10
Episode 8
• Buck talks down woman who is upset with her husband, Norman, who isn’t giving her enough attention, after she points a gun at him.
• Eddie is watching this interaction right below him. He’s also overhearing their conversation that includes Buck accepting that Abby is never coming back and having to get over her.
Buck and Eddie continue to have this life/ death experiences, while also navigating their love life’s. I really felt bad for Buck during this scene because it was obviously that he only recently started to process that Abby is gone. This rescue is also the origin of Buck wanting to be seen.
• Buck talks to Bobby by the engine about the rescue. Makes it clear that he finally accepts that Abby is gone and that he’ll be okay.
• Buck goes out as a single man with Chim. Buck discusses wanting to upgrade to Buck 2.0. A better version of Buck that’s moved on from Abby.
• Buck reminiscences about his old single days.
• Chim invited Maddie with out telling Buck. Buck becomes third wheel. While left alone, Taylor makes an appearance and buys him a drink.
• Buck and Taylor hook up in the bar bathroom after having a conversation about restraint. This happens all while Chim and Maddie are singing karaoke.
This scene in general really show cases how lonely Buck is and how he feels he’s lost his identity. He wants to improve, but easily falls back into old habits.
• Buck tells Bobby about his hook up. He’s dissecting the situation and explains that he feels bad/weird about the it.
This really small interaction between Bobby and Buck is one of my favorite Father and Son bonding scenes. Buck is being vulnerable and Bobby is setting him straight, while making a quick joke. I also need to give the director or the person who edited the scene a big hug, because as Buck is talking about his mess of a love life the camera cuts to Eddie not once but twice. It’s subtle and I may be delusional, but it’s there.
• Buck asks Taylor out on a “real” date. She denies it but they hook up in news van (or at least they start too)
•Rescue with newlyweds. No particular Buddie moment, but Buck and Eddie are the primary firefighters trying to pull them out of the vehicle.
• Buck hangs out with Chim and Maddie again. They address his sex life and lack of love life. Chim tells him that by going after Taylor he is basically dating Buck 1.0. Buck points out that Chim and Maddie are actually dating, but are in denial. Buck receives suspicious call asking him out to coffee. In that moment I believed it was Taylor, but we later find out it was actually Ally.
• The emergency with the old gay couple that were celebrating their anniversary and had a scrap book of their lives together, breaks my heart every time. It also likely foreshadows Buck and Eddie growing old together.
• Buck gets the love advice of "You don't find it. You make it"
• Buck calling for Eddie first when the old man was found unresponsive. After CPR fails, Buck notices the couple holding hands. Buck states, “That is love.”
I whole heartedly believe that this emergency has helped shape what Buck is looking for when it comes to love. He’s found true love. Still he’s not fully understanding that you don’t search for it. Jumping a head to Season 6, this mirrors Eddie’s search for love. I’ll probably go into more details when I get to that episode/season.
• Montage of all posside romances. Buck reaches out to Ally. They go out for a coffee date. Ally mentioning Eddie in the first few moments of their date. Ally stating, “Maybe I should have called Eddie instead.”
I like to pretend this is the writers very subtle way of stating Buck should have called Eddie. 😏
Episode 9
Hen Begins ❤️ An amazing episode, but no Buddie content.
Episode 10
• Buck annoys the hell out of Chimney as his roomate, moves in with Maddie.
• Eddie and Shannon hookup, and apparently have been hooking up for a while. Chris is brought home early and unknowingly has the possibility of seeing his mother for the first time in forever. Eddie decides that this is not the time for a reunion and has Shannon hide. Making Shannon out as a shameful secret.
I will say Shannon and Eddie’s dynamic and situation is really weird, given the fact that they are still technically married. That was practically a shitty situation to be in, but I also understand it not being the best time to reintroduce her to Chris.
• Eddie is afraid of Santa.
• Shannon makes a dramatic entrance and announces that they are sleeping together, in front of Chimney and Buck. Both Chimney and Buck pretend not to have heard the statement and uncomfortably look away.
• Eddie establishes that he can’t trust his wife and that being the reason why she can’t see Chris yet.
Eddie at this point has made it really clear that he loves Chris and will do anything to protect him. We see this more as the seasons continue, but him not trusting the woman that created and cared for Chris in the beginning when he was gone, is a little wild. I think Eddie is justified in his feelings, but he is being a little harsh. I think this moment in specific is very important to capture and break down because we can use Eddie’s relationship with Shannon as a foil to Eddie’s relationship with Buck, specifically pertaining to their involvement with Christopher.
• Buck becomes overly concerned and seemingly obsessed with Eddie's circumstances and is eagerly trying to discuss what just happened with Chimney.
• Buck and Eddie take Christopher to go see Santa. Eddie is as far away from Santa as he could possibly be, by sitting with Buck at the water fountain.
• Buck admires Christopher and vocalizes this to Eddie. Eddie suspects that Buck really wants to say something the whole Shannon situation.
• Eddie feels like he needs to justify sleeping with his wife to Buck. Buck seems to easily understand Eddie’s thought process and doesn’t judge him for it. Eddie becoming extremely vulnerable and revealing how he’s failed Chris, similarly to the way Shannon has failed Chris. Eddie admits to being confused about his relationship status with his wife.
The conversation Buck and Eddie have at this water fountain is very intense and vulnerable. I honestly believe that the conversation they are having should have been the conversation Eddie has with Shannon directly. This scene show cases a level of trust Buck and Eddie have developed since first meeting.
• Elf walks up to Buck and assumes Buck and Eddie are together as a gay couple with a child. She saw those two men and thought “gay”! 😂 That elf is the embodiment of all Buddie Shippers.
• The Bus emergency with the Marine. After rescuing those involved the 118 takes the Marine to his daughter’s school for her performance. There is a mutual understanding between Eddie and this Marine. Buck and Eddie cry at the marines reunion with his daughter.
• Eddie finally allows Shannon and Christopher to reunite. Very cute and heartwarming moment.
Now that Season 7 is quickly approaching, I’m going to challenge myself to transcribe all my notes and upload them on Mondays-Thursdays before the Season 7 premiere. I finished my rewatch, just have to go through my notes and transcribe them all. No promises that I’ll actually get this done in time, but I will actually try.
All my notes from Season 2 should be posted by this Wednesday.

"Buck, you need to move on. I have." Eddie, S5 Ep. 11: Outside Looking In.
The way this line makes me absolutely FERAL because this is not a line you say to your ex-coworker or best friend, this is a line you say to your ex-boyfriend/lover/fling/crush. Like if you really want this to be platonic there are so many better ways to word this:
"Buck, you need to let this go, I have." "Buck, you need to accept this, I have." "Buck, you need to stop this, I'm not coming back."
ANYTHING ELSE would have been better for friends but the fact that the writers chose to use 'move on' like Buck needs to get over Eddie, their relationship not Eddie leaving the 118. If they were real people, I would say this is a Freudian slip.
EDIT: Also 'move on' from Eddie? from their relationship? move on from WHAT Eddie??? because "moving on" from Eddie leaving the job is just a little clunky and is not the first thing I think of when I hear 'move on'.
I wish I could have been in the writer's room for this scene because I need to know if this was a conscious decision or if they just wrote this and everyone was like 'Yeah that sounds like Buck and Eddie' and just continued with the rest of the scene.
ALSO TO HAVE THIS IN THE EPISODE WHERE BUCK KISSES LUCY and I just know that if Eddie had stayed that probably wouldn't have happened, like I can't see Eddie leaving Buck's side and I don't think Lucy would have kissed Buck if they hadn't been alone (as they can in a bar).
"According to Reidel, that kiss 'exposes a crack in his relationship with Taylor, [one] that is going to widen as we move on this season.'"
I'm getting off track but what if Eddie had been the cause of that crack instead?!?!?!
ANYWAYS, "Buck, you need to move on. I have." We know that Eddie just wants Buck to drop this conversation, knows that if Buck keeps unravelling that knot Eddie's going to break (what we see later in the season) so he's being harsh to get Buck to stop but why does he choose to say 'move on'. Is it a low blow? Like is Eddie trying to invoke a "break up" (like Abby and Ali) to hurt Buck so he stops????
I NEED ANSWERS.
This is my Roman Empire.

“Hey, you okay?” Eddie asked, coming up beside him. “What did the note say? You look like you’re thinking awfully hard.”
“Oh, uh, nothing,” Buck hastily shoved the note in his pocket. “Just Lucy being Lucy. Said I have good taste in women.”
Eddie made a face. “She remembers Taylor, right? What about Abby?”
“Hey, I also dated Ali and Natalia, so I think it evens things out a little.”
“If you say so,” Eddie chuckled, dodging the elbow that Buck sent his way. “So, what’s got you thinking so hard?”
“I— can we talk about it later?” Buck asked softly, glancing at the rest of the team warily.
“Yeah, sure,” Eddie said, his curiosity now at an all time high. What could be in the note that Buck wouldn’t want to share with the team?

WHY IS EVERY COUPLE IN 911 THE COUPLKE IM GOING INSANE
BATHENA???? IMMACULATE! THEY'RE PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER. SOLID STABLE WONDERFUL RELATIONSHIP WHERE TWO VETERANS HELP EACH OTHER THROUGH THEIR LIVES

morning writing drafts
I should be working on sleepless in la.
Big SHOULD there.
Instead, I think i’ve come up with a name for a 911/mass effect mashup.  And been graphic editing because who wants to finish their rom com that should have been done already?
*sigh*
Title: The First Spectre (aka previously known as untitled 911/Mass Effect space opera slowburn) chapter 1 vs prologue
Fandom: 911, Mass Effect Trilogy
Pairing: endgame Buddie (MShenko equivalent).  Assume anything else is fair game until we hit ME3 territory because i’m totally making Taylor into Miranda and Abby is going to be Liara.
Tags/warnings: i’m still not committing to writing this monster length fic(and I do mean monster length if I go for it—like 600k of the slowest of slow burns).  In the meantime i’m evidently writing a beginning, a divorce-era horizon disaster, and can clearly picture the catalyst firing/’don’t leave me behind’ scene in all its angsty goodness. Author may be in deep trouble.  First draft.  Assume Eddie=Kaidan Alenko and Buck=MShep.  Chimney is totally Joker.  Use of military terms that may confuse some audiences and be completely inappropriate as author does not have a military background and just reads too many generation kill fics.
Tagging because they asked @shortsighted-owl.  If you would like to be tagged for any updates or snippets from this one please let me know.

Lieutenant Edmundo Diaz—known to his family as Eddie or everyone else as Lt Diaz or just Diaz—sat in the copilot’s chair on the bridge listening to Flight Lieutenant Han, aka Chimney, grumble about their newest mission orders.  Eddie thought that the grumbling was mostly for show—being assigned to work under Captain Robert Nash was a coveted position and good for your career.  The Normandy (known also by it’s engineering designation as SR-118) was a new type of freighter that was a joint project between the Alliance and the alien council races. There was no ship faster or with better handling anywhere in the fleet.
Chimney really should be happier he was getting the privilege of flying the equivalent of the most luxurious, high tech interplanetary transport ever made.  Instead, he was grumbling about scuttlebutt that he’d heard while getting his clearance physical from Dr. Wilson.
“Did you hear who you’ll be working with?” Chimney asked Eddie, implying that Eddie should be unhappy about his new CO.
“I heard I’d be working with Commander Buckley and there’s nothing to say.  He’s a good soldier.”
“A good soldier?!?  You heard what happened on Akuze right?  That he’s the only one who survived?”
“It means he’s capable and smart,” Eddie argued, trying to put an end to Chimney’s rant that had been going on for over a half hour.  “That’s good to have in a team CO.”
Chimney scoffed. “His entire team died except him. You going to be happy with him hanging you out to dry while he hightails it to safety?”
Eddie was beginning to think that the intel folder that had been sitting in his inbox wasn’t common knowledge as there’d just been a string of nonsensical numbers and letters as the sender’s contact information.  He’d been sent the extended—and highly classified—report on the Akuze Incident as well as the redacted official report that had been released to the press along with his official orders and a copy of Commander Buckley’s jacket. Eddie thought that Commander Buckley was lucky to have survived the first contact the Alliance had ever had with a thresher maw that had literally devoured an entire colony and then the rest of his naval special warfare unit that had been sent to investigate why the colony had gone dark.
Thresher maws were basically giant, hungry space worms with teeth the size of a small shuttle and spat acidic venom up to 3 clicks with eerie accuracy that would melt through shields and armor in less than two minutes.  If you didn’t die from the acid then you had to worry with either being eaten or crushed to death.  The damned things also hunted by noise and vibration so there was no escaping them other than getting off planet in a hurry.
Eddie might have nightmares about incidents like Akuze.  Commander Buckley had his respect for surviving one. The fact that the commander wasn’t out of his brain and stashed in some head doctor’s padded room drooling from being drugged to the gills spoke to his mental strength and resiliency.  The rest of his military jacket was even more impressive with the noted list of assignments and commendations including that he’d graduated from the Interplanetary Combatives Training (ICT) program and was one of the rare N7s.
Eddie’s only question was who had sent him the file—he was to be the XO for the ground team but it was highly unusual for him to have gotten this much intel up front…so who had given it to him?  It could be Captain Andersen since his name was also all over Commander Buckley’s file which suggested a mentor-mentee relationship but it could also have been the Commander himself or a third party who wanted to somehow prejudice Eddie in some way.
He was inclined to give his new CO the benefit of the doubt and see how things went.  Paperwork often omitted some truths and as a biotic Eddie had experienced his fair share of off-the-books blowbacks and prejudices.
Chimney, however, wasn’t.  The man was an inveterate gossip and had his ear tuned to get all the latest scuttlebutt.  Eddie had only known him for a few weeks but he knew if he needed to know anything about anybody on the ship then Chimney was the person to see.

One of the reasons I'm still 95% confident in Buddie Canon is Ryan's acting choices. And I don't think they are just gonna be surprised one day like by the way here's next week's script you guys become a couple. I think since at least S3 they were given a heads up at least a bit. Also as someone who knows of shows where actors intentionally tried to get another LI by switching up the chemistry with other characters--- if Ryan didn't want to go that way he definitely could have sold Anna better. Not sure if that makes sense??
But we constantly for 3 seasons have gotten his subtle nods and sometimes I think we just don't appreciate it as much as we should. Ryan's portrayal of Eddie has definitely morphed into how petty he can be in the funnest way possible. With Buck its in the cute way he teases him, it reminds me of a boy pulling a girl's pony tale. With Taylor it's that subtle cattiness he adds to it and I love it.
I just really don't think Ryan would lean into it much if he wasn't given direction and wasn't aware where it was going.
Hi Nonnie! Thank you for the ask!
Oh, for sure there’s no other satisfying outcome for either Buck, Eddie OR Chris. That kid also deserves to have these morons working it out and getting together. Without a doubt, the possibility of canon Buddie has been talked about. I think Ryan mentioned back in s2 that he and Oliver talked about this and showed each other Buddie edits, Tim also mentioned discussing this in the writers room, JLH also came out strongly for Buddie during s3, so if it happens, it will hardly be a surprise to anyone.
TBH, I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out Ryan and Oli have always been making acting choices with Buddie in mind. They indicated early on that they’d be on board with it, which is the most any actors can say in those cases where the execs hadn’t come out and stated anything concrete. I get what you’re saying about switching up the chemistry and it def happens on some shows. IDK about Ana, because if Ryan was explicitly told to sell awkwardness with her, I don’t think he would have gone against orders, but I do believe that between those early statements and also that one interview in s3 ahead of the finale where Ryan was basically, “Abby who? Abby’s been replaced with Eddie!” that this is exactly what Ryan would prefer as long as it’s up to him.
I think Ryan and Oliver both give performances where it’s evident that their characters couldn’t be more in love with each other. Every facial expression, every glance, every show of fondness and joy and contentment just to be together, even the way they’re physically so in sync on calls, but only with each other, we haven’t seen them portraying their characters being that in tune, that comfortable, that teasing, that happy around anyone else on or off the job...
IDK if that means they were given directions on this, though I do think in s2 the show def deliberately wanted to set things up for canon Buddie being an option at some point, and I am as sure as I can be without any confirmation that if it were up to Ryan and Oliver, Buddie would be canon. Did I mention they freaking named our ship?
Thank you again, lovely! I hope you have a great day! xoxox
(I got an influx of asks, I WILL answer all of them, but it might take a sec. If anyone wants to check whether I've already answered theirs or to read my replies, here's my ask tag. Thank you! xoxox)

Also I'm so sorry but the "Eddie walked away from her" things as a reason for why it's not happening... It's been clearly established that last time he was attracted to Ana physically and as an idea of what he should want, but nowhere ready to have a relationship.
Due to external pressures (Chris, everybody else pushing him that direction) and internalized ones, when he realized (consciously or not) that he wasn't there and Ana herself wasn't doing it for him, he doubled down instead of going "well, I tried", and only admitted reality when the situation became unsustainable.
This time they've made an effort to show that while he actually *wants* to have a relationship and is trying to put himself out there, he is also not willing to settle for *good on paper* anymore.
He smiled at Marisol in a way that was not just polite, seemed to pause and consider turning around several times, which he finally did. That does establish interest.
Even if he didn't say anything to her this time, given that she is possibly appearing next episode and they've had previous contact, it's a classic setup.
It still doesn't necessarily mean endgame, just like Buck was serious about both Ali and Taylor after Abby and it still ended.
However, it likely means that they'll hit it off at least for a while and she'll be the second person after Shannon he loves/has something *real* with. And there's nothing wrong with that.
Edit: Alternatively, they initially hit it off but it doesn't work for xyz reason, Eddie is at peace with it, and the progress is in him having taken that first step for real + doing things for himself + realizing that giving up what doesn't work for you ≠ failing

Okay I have another unhinged framing (?) meta, it's been in the back of my mind since yesterday when I say this post about how they gave Buck the literal high ground when he was breaking up with Taylor and it got me thinking because one thing about Buck is that he likes being high places, which is interesting considering he's a big guy on his own, he's pretty tall and he is broad, and most of the time, Buck is the tallest person in the room, but he sits in the counter, he chills on top of the truck.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So even when he's sitting down, he's in a higher place. He even picked an apartment where he can sleep in a high place. And a trend with emotional conversations that are focused on him is that they usually put both of the involved parties sitting down, so they're on the same level, or they're walking, both of them standing, but in these situations, Buck is gonna be higher because he's taller than the rest of the cast.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But if Buck is conflicted, they tend to put him higher, like having his parents stay seated while he yells at them, standing up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even if it's unusual, like in the one that got away.
Tumblr media
If you count the couch, there are 11 chairs in the frame, but he's sitting on the stairs, and even when Maddie starts moving towards him, he's still higher.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And obviously, breaking up with Taylor, he's like towering over her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So he is always higher than his scene partner.
Except when he's talking to Eddie in these types of moments. I made a longer meta about the framing in key buddie scenes, and there I talk about how when Buck needs reassurance from Eddie, Buck's sitting down and Eddie is standing up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If we expand that a bit to Buck just being shown at a lower point of the frame in comparison, we can also add when Buck tells Eddie that it would've been better if he was the one who got shot, because the hospital bed is higher than the chair he's sitting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I was looking for examples, skimming emotional Buck scenes, and Eddie is the only person they show Buck literally looking up to in moments like this.
I hadn't thought about the layer of Buck's character of liking being higher until now and this is fascinating in a sense. Especially when you add the initial conflict that Buck had with Eddie and the fear of being replaced, that Eddie's competence somehow negated his value for the 118, like, once he gets to know him, he really just blindly trusts Eddie.
Edit because I was wrong: Buck is shown looking up at 2 other people besides Eddie, Abby and Ali.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But in both situations he's looking up as he begs them to understand him and gets blindsided by the fact that they don't. But the situations he's looking up at Eddie he's seeking comfort and actually getting it.
Interesting that he only looks up at love interests when he's feeling vulnerable............... and that Abby and Ali fail to support him there.............

So I have a question as someone who’s only part way through season two of 911, do y’all fuck with Taylor in a “problematic fav” way or does she honestly get better or more nuanced as a character or something as the show goes on?
Cause I got to be honest, when she told Buck she’d wanted to include Bobby’s “testimonial” or whatever while he was high and only didn’t because of the lawsuit it would’ve gotten her that was an instant deal breaker for me.
Like that was pretty fucked up and unethical to me, but whatever. All I’m saying is that I need some reassurance about Taylor because I know that she and Buck get together and if she doesn’t have some redeemable qualities revealed soon all I’m going to do is dread when she becomes a recurring character.
I want to not be annoyed by this show, and I am not above quitting a show while I’m ahead to save me the irritation, so if anyone wants to say their piece I’d appreciate it.
- and yes I have also already seen that Buck cheats on her at some point, but Buck is his own problem that I wax and wane with already. I’m just asking about Taylor rn.
Edit: They slept together so I’ll keep an open mind, but her leaving him after they tried to hook up in the news van was funny. Like, I can just imagine how many times Buck probably did that to women before getting with Abby.
