#buck says it in 3x03 but i can't remember if there was another time

sometimes i think about the buck-eddie-chris situation too hard and i actually start to lose it bc like. the show fully portrays buck as a second parent to chris. he’s not even in the fun uncle territory anymore he straight up just acts like his dad. 

and even when it’s a funny scene it’s still just...there. take the whole chris going to camp discussion from 3x18. when buck goes on the ‘whAT IF HE GETS HOMESICK’ rant no one in the scene laughs and says, ‘relax buck, he’s not your kid’. buck’s reaction is funny, sure, but no one acts like it’s out of place. likewise in the scene in 4x03 where chris asks buck if they can go to his house when eddie turns off the tv. again, it’s a funny scene but it’s absolutely still played as buck deferring to eddie and siding with his partner him over chris. 

and even before all this, even before their friendship is in an arguably much deeper place, eddie tells buck in 3x03 “i love him enough to never stop trying and i know you do too”. that’s not?????????? how your friend should feel about your kid?????? you should not believe that your friend loves your child in the same way/to the same extent you do when you’ve only known each other a little over a year. and to be so sure of that?????? he says it’s so resolutely it’s unbelievable?????????

and i mean, literally everything about 4x14 just emphasises all of this even more. from the fact that buck takes on the responsibility of taking care of chris without being asked to the fact that we discover eddie’s chosen him in that role anyway. then to have buck and chris’ first interaction after this be the hug in the firehouse in 5x02 where buck greets chris the exact same way eddie does i’m?????????? 

of all the things the show has done, they have never once post-s2 presented buck’s role in christopher’s life as anything other than parental and it’s so fucking wild bc it’s like. okay. eddie is christopher’s dad. and you’re saying buck loves chris like a son. and eddie has chosen buck to be christopher’s parent in the event that he’s not around anymore. so.

so.................

what are eddie and buck to each other then????

best friends? obviously. work partners? sure. but what are they together in christopher’s life?

there’s literally only one answer and the fact that canon is both so fucking blatant about who buck is to chris but also so incredibly vague when it comes to defining buck and eddie’s relationship my brain genuinely feels like it’s going to explode i can’t deal with this
