There's No Surrender (And There's No Escape)
But three was the most concerning. Because three was the stunning realization that Buck was so tired. Even with the snapping pops of adrenaline sparking in his veins, Buck was so tired. So tired and so cold.  The first responder part of his brain knew how dangerous that was. Forty degree temperatures and rain were by far the most devastating combinations when it came to people dying of hypothermia. They were underprepared and underdressed and Buck was so cold. So… cold in just his t-shirt and pants. He couldn’t… he could just… Water slipped into Buck’s mouth like cloying fingers as Buck’s head went under and the taste of it against his tongue had him jerking up as he gasped and sputtered again.

Maddie: So did you take my advice? Buck: Y-yeah! Thanks, Maddie. Maddie: So? Any updates for the being the best sister in the whole world? Buck: Well, me and Eddie are cool now... Maddie: And...? Buck, shyly: And Tommy kissed me. Maddie, blinking aggressively: ...What.

Christmas Party Wish Part One
After The Christmas party, Steve manages to avoid everyone for all of two days before Robin shows up at his front door, ready to knock it down.
He crosses from the kitchen and into the foyer just as Robin starts yelling.
"Steven Marie Harrington, you open up this door or so help me--"
Steve rolls his eyes, pulling the door inward quickly enough that Robin loses her balance and nearly topples onto the inside floor mat. If not for Steve's quick reflexes she would be face down in a heap, he tells her as much with a sly grin as he helps her to stand.
"And whose fault would that be? Nice way to treat the person who is here to help you out Dingus," Robin huffs, brushing off imaginary dust from her shoulders while Steve moves aside to let her in.
"Merry Christmas to you too Rob," Steve says tugging her towards himself. He sighs as she immediately wraps her arms around his neck, content until she blows a long wet raspberry into his check. Steve drops her with a yelp and wipes away the wet mark she left behind with grinning lips.
"That was for ignoring my call," she says with narrowed eyes, "you were supposed to come for supper on Christmas day remember?"
She shrugs off her blue parka before lifting each foot to pull off her snowy boots, Steve takes the coat and tosses it over the back of the closest chair and crosses his arms over his chest.
"I know," he manages after a beat, sighing as Robin scoffs. She turns on her heel and wanders into the kitchen, leaving Steve to trail after her.
"I can only assume it's because you had other plans, you can't have possibly ignored my call for some other reason, hmm?"
Steve lifts his head to stare at the ceiling and count to five.
The thing that Steve both loves and hates about his best friend is her ability to read him through and through and call him on his shit. He'd hoped to have at least a little more time to wallow in self pity though.
"You've been wallowing for two days Steve, and I know it sucks," she chews her lip for a moment before sighing, "I'm sorry about the wish game, I feel like it's my fault".
Steve shakes his head and moves to the fridge. He opens it and reaches inside for two cans of cola before turning and using his foot to nudge the door closed again. He stacks the cans, holding them both with one hand and he moves to the pantry, grabbing an old open tube of Pringles, before making his way back to the kitchen island.
"Nah," he says eventually, "it wasn't your fault, if anything it proved why I was right not to say anything".
Steve places Robin's cola and the chips on the counter beside him and cracks the tab on his can with one hand as he leans heavily against the edge. He takes a long swig from the can, pounding his chest as he finishes to release a long burp.
Robin grimaces and swats at Steve's bicep as she grabs her own can and hops up onto the counter next to Steve.
"Dis-GUST-ing," she enunciates, wrinkling her nose, "and it doesn't prove anything Steve, of course Eddie would wish for his band to succeed, he doesn't even know you're on the table".
"And besides," Robin continues, gesturing to Steve with the can, "Nancy and Jonathan don't know that I'm a friend of Dorothy and we've known each other for over a year now. You've known them for three years and haven't said anything either, Dingus, so why would Eddie feel comfortable sharing something like that in front of everyone?"
And, huh, well what Robin says does make a lot more sense than the rambling depressing thoughts that he's been playing on repeat since their movie night.
He and Eddie have gotten a lot closer since they escaped from the Upside Down for the last time. Since Steve managed to carry him out of hell and got them to the hospital in time.
And Steve has been trying so hard for months not to expose himself, to show the most vulnerable parts of his heart to someone that could stomp on it as easily as Nancy did.
But Robin has a point.
On the one hand Steve has been protecting himself, and on the other he's also made sure that there would never be a possibility of--
Steve shakes his head, "first of all, I only just figured all of this, Bi-Sectional stuff, out Robin--"
"Bisexual," she sighs as Steve keeps talking.
"Whatever, and second, we have no idea if Eddie swings that way either…I just don't want to take the risk and end up fucking it all up".
Robin stares at him, an unhappy frown marring her normally sweet features. It feels too much like she's evaluating the inside of his mind --though she did always have the uncanny talent of knowing exactly what he was thinking.
"And what would you say if I told you I had a plan?" Robin says slowly, her gaze unwavering still.
Steve meets her eyes for a moment, taking in the smirk and the raised eyebrow. There's a challenge in her expression and Steve knows there's nothing for it but to listen to what she has to say.
"I'm going to regret letting you in today aren't I?" Steve says as he lifts his can towards her own.
Robin answers with a wide grin and knocks her can into his with a metallic click.
"Don't you always? Anyways," she clears her throat and looks at him with a mischievous smirk, lifting her hands into the air and wiggling her fingers, "I'm thinking, are you ready? New Year's Eve!"
"No--"
"New Year's Eve Steve, come on!" She insists as Steve grazes on a stack of chips from the Pringles tube.
"All we need to do is invite everyone over, Eddie included, to Casa Harrington for a little New Years Party," Robin continues, ignoring the eye roll Steve sends her way, "with enough liquid courage you'd have another opportunity to actually talk to Eddie, confess your feelings, and Boom! Maybe even get a midnight kiss out of the whole thing!"
Steve stares at her wide eyes and wider grin, forcing himself to keep his expression blank.
"So, just to be clear," Steve says eventually, around a mouthful of chips. Robin exaggeratedly gags and snatches her own stack from the tube.
"Your plan is for me to host another party and talk to him".
"Well, yeah--"
"...Robin, that's not a plan, that's a repeat of what already happened," Steve groans as he puts down the chips and runs his hands over his face until they've tangled into his hair.
"No, no, nuh uh, because you didn't say jack shit to him all night," she huffs, gently pulling his hands down, "the crucial difference my sweet bozo, is that you are actually going to tell him how you feel this time".
"How am I supposed to do that with my ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend, and everyone else here smart ass," he counters, letting her continue to hold his hands in her own smaller ones.
She rolls her eyes but squeezes his fingers as she continues, "it will be easy to get him alone, come on, you could tell him you want to give him his Christmas present in your room, you could ask him to go for a smoke outside, you could show him the basement stereo and your ridiculous music collection, must I go on while you don't write this down?"
With every suggestion Steve feels a surge of warm affection for his friend and allows for a fond grin to replace the skeptical frown on his face.
"Do I have to do all of those or should I pick one?" Steve asks, lifting his now free hands to protect his face as Robin whips her own at his chest and head.
"How you were ever considered a ladies man, I will never know," Robin says, though the words are rather undercut by a laugh that turns into a giggle as she finds a particularly ticklish rib and begins her assault.
"You are a fucking menace birdie," Steve manages to say as he catches the offending hands and steps away from the counter and his friends attack.
"You love it," she scoffs, stealing another chip and crunching it loudly as though to make her point.
And he does, Steve thinks to himself.
They have five days to figure out the final details, and Steve can't help but move back to the counter to swing an arm around her shoulders.
Because when in doubt, he can always count on Robin.
"Okay, New Years it is".

oh, bi the way
buckley sibling feels || rated: g || wc: 663
Buck knocked on the door, his hands shaking slightly. He blew out a breath and bounced on the balls of his feet while he waited for Maddie to answer the door.
The door opened and Buck felt himself relax as his older sister came into view. “Buck? Hey, I wasn’t expecting you! Come on in.”
Buck followed behind Maddie, closing the door behind him. “I’m sorry to drop in on you without calling, I just— I needed to talk to you.”
“You don’t have to call, Buck,” Maddie said, giving him a soft look. “You know that. Our door is always open to you.”
“Thanks, Mads,” Buck mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck in a nervous gesture. “Uh, you might want to sit down.”
“Okay, now you’re scaring me,” Maddie said, hesitantly sitting down at the kitchen table. She gestured for Buck to sit next to her but he shook his head and stayed standing. “What’s going on, Buck?”
He swallowed roughly and let out a shaky sigh. “I need to tell you something. I— I, uh, kind of only just realized this? It’s new. Very new and I’m— I don’t— I don’t know how to say it.”
Maddie watched as he paced in front of her. “Hey, Buck, look at me. There’s nothing you can’t tell me—“
“I think I’m bisexual,” Buck blurted out, cutting her off.
It was quiet for a beat and then Maddie gave him a gentle smile, standing up and holding her arms out. “Come here.”
Buck folded himself into her arms, making himself smaller and letting out a shuddering breath.
“Thank you for telling me,” Maddie whispered, stroking her hand up his back. “I know that wasn’t easy and I’m so proud of you, Evan. I really am.”
“Thank you,” Buck mumbled, squeezing her tight. He still felt shaky, adrenaline in his veins. He’d known that Maddie would be nothing but supportive but coming out was still scary as hell and she was one of the most important people in the world to him.
“Let’s sit on the couch,” Maddie said, nudging him towards it. “You’re shaking.”
Maddie led him to the couch and they sat down, Buck leaning his head on her shoulder. Her arm came around him and her fingers settled in his hair, playing with it gently and making him relax even further. They sat like that for a while, with Maddie just calmly carding her fingers through his hair and Buck waiting for his racing heart to settle down.
“Have you told anyone else?” Maddie asked when Buck finally settled.
“No, I wanted you to be the first,” Buck admitted shyly.
Maddie squeezed him closer, pressing a kiss to the side of his head. “I’m honoured.”
“Do I have to tell the others?”
“You don’t have to tell anyone you don’t want to,” Maddie said firmly. “If you want to tell the team, I know they’ll be more than supportive but if you aren’t ready there’s absolutely no rush, Buck. You decide when you’re ready. If at all.”
“Thanks, Mads,” Buck mumbled. “It’s not that I don’t want to tell them— or that I think they’ll be unsupportive— it’s just…it feels like a big thing and I don’t want anything to change. I hate change.”
“I know you do, but just remember you don’t have to do anything you aren’t ready for, okay?” She moved so Buck had to look her in the eyes. “This is something that you control. When and if you’re ready, the team will be there to support you. They’re our family. Everything will be okay.” “Will you be there?” Buck asked, looking at her with wide eyes. “When I tell them?”
“If you want me to, I’ll be there in a heartbeat,” Maddie squeezed his hand, giving him a bright smile. “You can count on me.”
“I know,” Buck smiled. He held his hand out for her to lock her pinky with his. “I always can.”

hold me close when it's over
Post-hospital. Read it below or on AO3.
Buck's starting to fade by the time Maddie and Chim are clearing the dishes from the dining room table. Bobby stands to help them, and when Hen comes back from bringing a stack of plates to the kitchen, she looks Buck up and down. When she does the same to Eddie, it feels a little like he's been put through an X-ray machine.
"Alright, I'd better be getting home. Chris, do you want to come to my house, have a sleepover with Denny tonight? If it's okay with your dad?"
It's like she knows without asking that they're not making it home tonight.
Christopher shakes his head solemnly, and Eddie runs a reassuring hand over his hair and nods his wordless thanks for the offer.
"Okay." She squeezes Buck's hand. "You let everyone here take care of you, alright?" Mock-stern. "That's an order."
Buck manages a small, tired smile.
"You should go lie down," Eddie says quietly, but Buck gives the smallest shake of his head. Been lying down for days, it says. Eddie sighs. "Alright, living room, then. At least."
He has to help him to his feet and to the couch. Chris follows them in and curls up beside Buck. There's a dimmer switch for the lights, and Eddie turns them down low. "Okay," he says, and it's half a question and half not.
"We're okay," Chris says. He's got a hand on Buck's arm like he's holding him steady.
Holding each other steady. That's what they're all doing here.
Bobby's putting the last of the dishes in the dishwasher when he comes in. Chim's taken Jee-Yun to put her to bed. Maddie's wiping down the table and the counters. There's nothing left to do.
"I'll leave you to it," Bobby says as he hits start on the machine. "Athena just got home, and May's there tonight, too." Maddie nods and hugs him goodbye, and when Eddie does the same they both hold on tight, tight like they had in the hospital during the long, awful wait. When Bobby goes into the living room he brushes back Buck's hair and takes his face in his hands and kisses the top of his head and tells him, "I love you, kid," and Eddie knows from Maddie's quiet sniffle beside him that he's not the only one with tears in his eyes.
He hadn't asked. About staying. He'd just packed a bag with their toothbrushes and pjs and a change of clothes and thrown it in the truck. Just in case.
"The second guest room is all made up," Maddie says, before he has to figure out how. He nods, and blinks back tears, and she pulls him close and tells him, "You're always welcome here."
Chris is still watching over Buck when Eddie comes to sit beside them on the couch. "What do you think, should we stay here tonight with Buck?"
"Yes." With an emphatic nod.
"Good," Buck whispers, and it's like the relief washes away the last of the resolve that had been holding him upright against the couch.
"Bed," Eddie says, and holds out his hands, and Buck doesn't even protest the early hour, just takes Eddie's hands and grits his teeth and lets himself be pulled slowly to his feet.
"I can read to you," Chris says. "I brought my book."
Buck's asleep within the first two pages, so Christopher switches over to reading silently to himself. Eddie wants to stay and just watch this, his boys, forever, but the tug of good manners pulls him back to the living room and their hosts.
Chim raises his eyebrows when Eddie comes back into the living room: Everything okay? Eddie nods and makes himself sit down. It feels strange, at this point, not to be at the hospital anymore.
There are things they should say. Things they need to say.
It still feels too fragile. Too soon.
They all go to bed not long after that. Eddie lifts Chris out of Buck's bed and carries him into the next room like he's a little kid again, and changes into his old, soft shorts and t-shirt and brushes his teeth and sits on the edge of the bed watching Chris breathe in and out, soft and even.
He might have imagined the sound from next door, or it might have been Buck whispering his name, but either way when he goes back in he's met with the glint of hallway light off of half-opened eyes.
"Hey." So gentle. Coming close. Sitting on the edge of the bed. Brushing his fingertips over his hair. "Talk to me."
It's not meant to be an echo of before, but it ricochets between his ribs all the same. Makes his heart beat fast and his breath go shallow.
Buck frowns and scrubs at his eyes. "Hurts."
"Where?" Already looking around in the supplies Maddie had set up for painkillers and heating pads.
The frown tugs the corners of his mouth down even more, threatening tears. "Everywhere."
"Okay." He checks the medicine log on the bedside table and shakes out the right number of pills and hands them to Buck with a glass of water. Hovers at the edge of the bed while Buck swallows them, grimacing.
"Do you want a heating pad? Or an ice pack?" Keeping his voice low in the darkness.
Buck shakes his head and reaches for Eddie's hand. When Eddie meet him halfway, Buck gives just enough pressure for Eddie to get the hint and lie down beside him. "You're…" he starts, and maybe it means you're a good heating pad or maybe it means something else, but they're close and quiet in the dark and Eddie very gently wraps him up.
There's so much they should say, but it's too fragile, and too soon.
Buck takes Eddie's hand and places it flat against his chest, over his heart, ghosting over the broken ribs that have only barely started to heal.
You saved me.
Even through the swelling, Eddie can feel Buck's heart beat.
You saved me, so we're even. Let's never do this again.
Eddie lowers his forehead to brush Buck's shoulder and doesn't try to fight the sob.
Buck laces their fingers and exhales a shaky breath and his heart beats, and beats, and beats. We've got time. We'll figure it out in the morning.
We've got time.

rewatching buck coming out to maddie and it really does not seem like she’s surprised he’s into men.
she’s surprised that it’s tommy who had him figure it out
“i just, didn’t think that’s where your interests would lie” keep in mind she heard buck rant to her about eddie and tommy’s new friendship. chim even helped tease him about his obvious jealousy.
“wh- it’s the same tommy? eddie’s friend?”
“i don’t think you’re a fraud. i just think maybe you’re not sure of your own feelings yet, and if there’s something you need to tell eddie, you will. just- in your own time”
buck literally came out to eddie in the next scene we saw of them, so there’s no way it could’ve been about that.
she’s not surprised about him being queer (we all know he is bisexual but currently he does not label himself so i am choosing to respect that for the time being!)
and also- maddie would absolutely Never say “i think you’re confused about your feelings” about her brother’s sexuality. she would absolutely never question him, especially because that isn’t her place and she knows that.
so what else could it be? we also know that oliver admitted buck still doesn’t know who or what he was jealous of last episode, just that he was feeling strongly about something.

a bit more of the christmas fic which im trying to focus on rn haha
prev snippet
___
“It’s been a long time ago, I’m over it.” Buck says. “They're just stupid Christmas sweaters.” he shrugs with his free arm, the one Eddie’s not holding and Chris is not sleeping on.
“Buck.” Eddie sighs, looking up at Buck again, and their eyes finally meet again. Eddie melts a little, like every time he gets to look into Buck’s eyes, that now just look so sad and disappointed. If Christopher wasn’t sound asleep between them, Eddie would wrap Buck up in a long hug. “It’s okay to not be over it. It’s clearly important to you and your parents never bothered to care.” he can’t help the venom seeping into his voice at the last part. Suddenly he can’t wait to see the Buckleys again, because oh, he has things to say.
“It’s so silly, though.” Buck turns away again with a wry chuckle. Eddie’s grip on Buck’s arm tightens for a second. It’s a weird angle, and he scooches a little bit closer, careful not to disturb Chris, and his hand moves to the nape of Buck’s neck, fingers just barely touching the short hairs, his thumb moving along the side of his neck. He hears Buck take a shuddering, surprised breath, but leans into the touch.

Five of My Favorite Fics I've Written
Tagged by @loveyourownsmiilee
I'm cheating and putting six cus no one is the boss of me.
In no particular order:
Buckley Bookshop AU
“Books are my love language,” Maddie said as she handed Chimney the book. “Movies are yours. This is a movie, right?” Chimney jerked his head up in alarm as he looked at her and Maddie couldn’t help but laugh as she dropped the ruse.“I’m kidding. I know Fight Club is a movie.”   The Madney Bookstore AU we all deserve and the Buddie Teen Romance to add a spice of chaos.
Falling Slowly; Sing Your Melody (I’ll Sing It Loud)
Buck didn’t like him at first.  Eddie Diaz was all hard lines and strict rules with a bone structure that could cut through glass and scared away his fans. Which... if you asked Bobby, was the point but still!  He also yelled at Buck which was fine. It’s not like it hurt his feelings.  It didn’t.  It didn’t, Maddie! It also definitely didn’t turn Buck on either. Nope.  Stop it, Maddie! After a traumatizing home invasion, Bobby Nash decides to hire a bodyguard for his lead singer. Musician!Buck Bodyguard!Eddie
Tear Me to Pieces; Skin to Bone
Bobby wasn’t comfortable with the LAPD wanting to use Buck as bait. Because that’s exactly what Buck would be: bait.
The LAPD wants to borrow Buck for an undercover mission to hunt down a serial killer. No one is thrilled.
What a Wicked Thing to Do (to Let Me Dream of You)
“It’s fine. You busy?”
Which was how Buck found himself waiting outside Eddie’s door with a jittery bounce in his step and a sense of delirious déjà vu of another time when he’d called up Eddie in the middle of the night feeling lonely.
The warm light of the inside of Eddie’s place basked around him like a halo and made him fuzzy around the edges as he opened the door. Warm and dreamlike that seeped into Buck’s muscles and made him relax for just a second.
“Hey—” Was all Eddie could get out before Buck was crossing the threshold and searing his lips against Eddie’s in a desperate kiss.
Follow Up to No Strings Attached
I Don't Mind Waiting (If It's For You)
“Victim is Charles Dumont. Three gunshot wounds to the chest. Looks like an attempted robbery. There was a case of bourbon with a bottle missing and we found Charlie’s wallet tossed a few blocks from here. And Eddie?” Athena stopped just as she got to the door and turned him with a serious expression on her face. “There’s a witness.”
Her frown dipped under the professional mask she was known for and Eddie caught the flicker of concern pulling at her composure.
“You know him?”
Athena pressed her lips into a tight line and nodded.
“Evan Buckley. He’s the bartender here. He was helping Charlie restock tonight when he heard a noise and saw it happen.”
Homicide Detective, Eddie Diaz, is called in to investigate the murder of a local shield and ladder bar owner. There he meets his only witness, Evan "Buck" Buckley.

Smoke and Ashes Brushed Off with Ink
He needed to breathe.  He’d been in enough pain in his life to know that.  So, Buck, taking all the experience of growing up alone and seeking the attention even if came at the price of a broken arm or a skinned knee did what he knew would help.  He exhaled slowly and melted into the table. “Good boy,” Eddie said and all of Buck’s thoughts went silent as the buzzing that had been under his skin stopped.  Everything stopped.  Everything went still.  And Buck felt real for the first time in such a long time. no shade, but I'm really not a fan of the headcanon where Buck ditches his last name for diaz or nash – not because I think he feels an attachment to the Buckleys over them, but because it connects him with his sister
