i used to be a stony and i eventually started ctrl+f "sam" and "rhodey" fics before reading cause soooo many times in fics they just wouldnt appear at all...... theyre literally the very best friends of the main pairing and the best friend title would always be written as someone else... i wonder why 😒

I think I saw a post somewhere (shit I should've saved it) from years ago where a Sam fan complains that a post CW fic that's really popular and it has 100k words but neither Sam nor Rhodey are in it. It such a slap in the face.

What's funny is that I started shipping Samsteve because of a Stony fic I read where he and Sam got married but then Sam died or whatever. I was like 'huh that was cute' so I started browsing in the Samsteve tags. And the rest is history lmao.

But anyway yeah, I'm not saying stony fics have bad writing or whatever. But its clear who is the favorite in that fandom. and as someone who loves Steve and Sam individually (AND RHODEY!), those fics just don't satisfy me enough. So I stopped reading them. Right now I'm enjoying reading Sambucky, Samsteve, BuckyNat, Stevepeggy, BuckyClint, and Rhodeytony (I just bookmarked some fics, im pretty excited).

Hopefully, we will get more fan content when Sam and Rhodey's movies drop!

Ok so confession time, I haven't used tumblr in like 5 years and even then hardly at all. I couldn't figure out how to reply to the answer/comment you left for me after my last comment so I just figured I would start a new one 😄 I wanted to say I did notice that they got longer over time, but honestly I love that. I love long fics so I was excited to see how many longer ones you had as well.

On that note, I am just in awe here of your talent. You mentioned that in AP💙 you had done a lot of research, and I noticed that all of your other fics are so meticulously researched as well. All the little Easter eggs, like making certain numbers in the story match up with numbers from the actual Marvel Universe... I don't know how you do it! You have so many fics, literally all of them except the most recent ones are "complete" which is a huge thing. I don't think I've seen an author with half your stories where one of them wasn't abandoned or on hiatus. Like how do you get enough time in the day?!?!

Final thought here I swear lol, you have several pairings that I never ever would have guessed I would like, but your interpretation just made me love them. Biggest example I can think of is Logan/Clint from the MTW universe... like what?! I never in a million years would have thought I would like that pairing. Honestly when I saw it in the pairings for those stories I was a little skeptical, but dang I love them now.

Seriously I'm in awe, you deserve an award or something lol. Thank you again! 💙

Thank you! I honestly put so much work into the Easter Eggs and references in my fics. Like look up completely unneeded information about the actors or old school comic books or super obscure character information just to add a line or even a reference or like... an apartment number?? And I know 99/100 people just don't care about that but I LOVE it so I keep doing it lol

Unfinished fics BUG ME. I don't read alot of fic anymore since I'm always writing but the first time I read a fic and got super invested in it without realizing it was incomplete (didn't know how to use filters on AO3 yet!) and then realized it hadn't been updated since like 2014-- I mean I feel like my brain broke?? A little bit??

So I thought, "okay I am NEVER doing that." And of course OF COURSE I understand that there are a million and a half reasons why a story would be left incomplete and I definitely don't look sideways at or judge authors for that sort of thing because like, that's an insanely entitled attitude but I definitely make a point to always finish fics, even if that means slicing down the plot or eliminating scenes to be able to wrap it up sooner rather than later. Like, a story might take me a year but it WILL finish at some point!

And YES HOLLA for additional new pairings! I am definitely an equal opportunity shipper so while there's several pairings I just don't...get... there are several that I had never considered but sort of got talked into writing for and now I LOVE them. Best one that comes to mind is BuckyClint, I didn't even know I liked them together until I took a commission for them and now they are arguably one of my favorite pairings ever.

[The Initiative]

*Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America #3

This is a Clint only issue but it will give you context for a lot of their earlier interactions

*Captain America (2005) #37

Bucky is one of the main characters of this event as the Invaders was his WW2 team so he appears in all the issues. Clint also appears in multiple issues. But Clint meets sidekick/kid/WW2 Bucky in issue #5

[Dark Reign]

*New Avengers (2005) #48-54

Bucky invites Clint and the new Avengers to stay at his place and Bucky joins the team. A lot of interactions and Bucky and Clint even copilot the quinjet. If you were only to read one arc of this run go with #48-52 as it really set ups the dynamics and tensions in the team

*The Mighty Avengers (2007) #21

Clint and Bucky have a small but fun interaction.

*New Avengers: The Reunion #1

Clint and Bucky have a conversation about Steve and legacy

*Captain America (2005) #37, #50

37 is just Bucky mentioning Clint but it does imply that Clint knows about Bucky's past as the winter soldier which at the time was a secret. When asked about it, the writer Ed Brubaker said that Clint and Bucky spent a lot of nights talking about Steve. In issue #50, Clint organizes Bucky as surprise birthday party.

*Captain America (1968) #600

It's the one year anniversary of Steve's death. Bucky and Clint spar

*Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #600

The new avengers are there so Bucky and Clint share panels

*New Avengers (2005) #55-59

More of them being on the same team and interacting

*The Mighty Avengers (2007) #29, #30, #31

29 and 30 is just regular avengers stuff, but #31 has one of my favorites BuckyClint team up moments

*Captain America: Reborn #1-6

Clint, Bucky, Sam, Natasha and Hank Pym believe Steve is not actually dead, they go look for him. To fully understand this outside of the BuckyClint interactions, I suggest you read Captain America: Road to Reborn  which collects Captain America (2005) #49-50 and Captain America (1968) #600-601 

*Dark Reign: The List - Avengers #1

The Dark Avengers decide to capture the New Avengers. The New Avengers have a discussion about the possibility of killing Norman Osborn.

*New Avengers (2005) Annual #3

Clint decides to go kill Osborn but is captured instead. The New Avengers go rescue him. Worth to check out for the art.

*What If? Dark Reign #1

Au where the events of the Annual #3 had a different ending. It is not canon but it has some good BuckyClint interactions

*New Avengers (2005) #60

Clint is not in this issue, if you’re reading for the whole story, you should read it as it leads to the Siege event

*Siege #2-4

The event where all the Avengers team fight against Osborn who is trying to take over Asgard. It’s a big event so Clint and Bucky are there among many many other heroes. You can play spot spot BuckyClint  or you can read the event in full for the story

*New Avengers (2005) #62-64

#62 takes place during Siege #2, #63 takes place before Siege #2 and during Siege #3, #64 takes place in between Siege #3 and Siege #4

*Avengers: The Initiative #34

Takes place during Siege #3. There’s a spread with both Clint and Bucky. This tie-in can be skipped.

*New Avengers Finale #1

The team disbands as they no longer need to be an underground team and they can now officially be Avengers. 

[Heroic Age]

*Captain America (1968) #607

Clint walks into a room where Bucky is to tell them to check the news on the tv. 

*Hawkeye & Mockingbird #1, #5

In #5, Clint light heartedly complains about Bucky to Steve while they spar and then Bucky comes in to spar with them. #5 is just Bucky being with Steve when Clint calls for a ride.

*Captain America (1968) #611-612

The news find out about Bucky being the Winter Soldier and so does Clint. He is not happy about a murderer being Cap and on the Avengers and being hidden the truth. This contradicts what Brubaker said about Captain America (2005) #37. Fun game of choose your own canon. Issue #612 is only a cameo but it has Clint standing behind Steve as Steve gives his support for Bucky.

*Captain America and the Falcon (2011) #1

[Fear Itself]

*Fear Itself #7.1

Bucky fakes his death. The avengers have a wake/party in his honor. Clint mentions how while he didn’t approve of Bucky being Cap at first, he did live up to it. Clint notices that Steve was acting weird during the eulogy.

[Marvel Now]

*Winter Soldier (2012) #10-14

Bucky asks Clint and some other people to help him find Natasha. There's some good bickering and Clint finding out that Bucky's not dead

[After this, Clint and Bucky did not interact or share panels for years. They did share one issue, Secret Avengers (2013) #16, where Bucky went on vacation with Bobbi, Clint's ex wife, while Clint was worried about Bobbi.]

[Secret Empire]

*Secret Empire #8-10

Bucky, Cint and others team up to take down Hydra Cap. Clint and Bucky both appear in more issues but this is the ones were they interact/team up.

*Secret Empire Omega #1

Natasha dies during the events of Secret Empire. Bucky watches Clint crying at Natasha's funeral on national television. This marks a change to their dynamic.

[Marvel Legacy]

*Tales of Suspense (2017) #100-104

Bucky and Clint reluctantly team up to track Natasha who they believe to be alive. Must read.

*The Punisher (2016) #226, #227, #228

The continuation to the ToS ending. Bucky, Clint, Bobbi and Nat are sent to bring the Punisher into custody but Bucky and Natasha have a secret agenda. #226 has a good BuckyClint moment. Bucky and Clint dont interact and don't share panels in #227 and #228 but they are in opposite sides with Clint coming working with SHIELD and other heroes to stop Natasha, Bucky and Frank

[Fresh Start]

*The Punisher (2018) #5, #12

It's implied that Bucky, Clint and other guys often team up together under Nick Fury Jr. Here they are sent to catch the Punisher.

*War of the Realms #5

there’s this very cool panel where they’re both riding unicorns

* Web of Black Widow #5

In this final issue, Clint, Bucky, Yelena and Tony help Natasha take down the Headmistress who had been impersonating Natasha.

*Hawkeye: Freefall #1, #4, #6

Someone is going around dressed as Ronin, Clint teams up with Bucky and other people to prove it is not him. Issue #6 only has Bucky calling Clint.

*Falcon & Winter Soldier #1-3

Clint is brought up 3 issues in a row? Bucky is literally like "So what do you think about Barton?"

*Black Widow (2020) #1- 5, #12, #14-15

Something weird is happening to Natasha, so Bucky and Clint team up to observe her and then Clint, Bucky, Yelena team up with Natasha to help her defeat the enemies. It is most likely set before Hawkeye: Freefall but came out after 

*King in Black: Captain America #1

Bucky once again mentions Clint to Sam and implies that the two of them discuss ideas

*Thunderbolts (2022) #1

Clint has been staying low-key after the events of Hawkeye: Freefall. On a phone call with Luke Cage, he confess that he hasn’t had a lot of contact with the real world and does’t keep up with the news, Bucky and Nat being the ones that send him in info when it’s important. While the winterhawk part is but a one liner, I still consider this issue important when it comes to Clint’s individual arc.

So the first half of Clint and Bucky’s interaction, spanning from the Initiative to Siege, are very defined by the context and status quo of the Marvel Universe. Here’s my best attempt at explaining the context and giving the timeline. (You can also check this twitter thread where I summarized all the important winterhawk moments and put them in context)

House of M/Avengers Finale

During her breakdown and her attempt to change reality to get what she desired, Wanda kills multiple Avengers and cause a lot of damage leading the disassembling of the Avengers. Also a lot of mutants lost their powers but that is not relevant here.

The Avengers  shortly form a new team, this time secret and without pay, called the New Avengers

Captain America: Winter Soldier

You’ve watched the movie. Bucky is alive as a brain washed assassin for the Red Room

Civil War

After the an accident with the New Warrior, there is a law project to regulate superheroes and making them government agents. Tony is for it, Steve against it.

Death of Captain America

Sharon is tricked into killing Captain America on live television

It turns out that Clint was alive, he was just off in Europe trying to find Wanda. He confronts Tony about Steve’s death and is offered the mantle of Captain America which he refuses. Clint then joins the New Avengers, the underground team.

Bucky steals the shield from Tony and takes the mantle of Captain America

Initiative

After the events of Civil War, Heroes must be registered with the Government and assigned their own sector. Otherwise, it is illegal to be a hero. Tony Stark is the Director of SHIELD and he leads the Mighty Avengers. Those who opposed the Super-Hero Registration Act stayed on the New Avengers. Clint became Ronin as Kate has become Hawkeye.

Secret Invasion

So turns out a lot of people of power on Earth were actually Skrulls preparing for an Invasion. Bobbi, Clint’s ex-wife is found to be alive, she had been held captive by the Skrulls for many years.

Dark Reign

Tony Stark takes responsibility for the events of Secret Invasion and steps down as director SHIELD. Norman Osborn, the Green Goblin, takes over and becomes the Iron Patriot, he forms his own Avengers team where other villains take the mantles of other heroes. They hunt the New Avengers.  Clint Barton is extremely pissed during this era and wishes to kill Osborn.

Captain America Reborn

So apparently Captain America wasn’t actually dead, he was just stuck in another dimension?

Siege

Norman Osborn and the Dark Avengers attempt to take control of Asgard. The Avengers stop him and remove him of his position of power.

Heroic Age

Era where the status quo had returned to normal. The Avengers are a public team. Clint goes back to being Hawkeye, Bucky stays as Cap while Steve becomes the commander of SHIELD.

Fear Itself

a crossover event where the Serpent, an Asgardian fear deity causes global panic on Earth and seeks to reclaim the throne of Asgard he claims is his.

During the the events of the crossover, Bucky faked his death so he could do covert stuff as the Winter Soldier and Clint changed his costume from the classic tunic to the spy suit.

Marvel Now

Every so often Marvel decides to relaunch multiple books at the same time and change creative teams. Minor changes to the status quo that are not relevant

Secret empire

So there was this cosmic cube that could alter reality and it changed so that Captain America had been Hydra all along. This is the event where they take HydraCap down
