i feel like i win when i lose, chapter three
“So…when is the wedding ceremony?” Jughead asks through a mouthful of mini crab cake. “Or…do they not do vows the second time, since they already broke the first ones?”
“They did that yesterday. Courthouse.” Rising onto her tiptoes, Veronica rests one hand on his shoulder for balance and narrows her eyes as she scopes out the other side of the room. She’s been distracted ever since they arrived, fending off a series of handshakes and how-are-you’s from the blandly attractive 50- and 60-somethings in suits who make up most of the gathered crowd.
Jughead chews his crab cake slowly, deep in thought. “So…today is just…saying ‘I do’?”
(Jughead is recently divorced, and he keeps running into Betty Cooper at weddings. AU.)
read it on ao3.

i'm standing on a tightrope, alone. // Juggie at Betty ( @inkedmuses )
Tumblr media
she knew it hadn't been easy for Jughead lately - no one would dare to say that. juggling his new role as the 'Serpent Prince' with who he had been before, finding out how exactly to make it all come together. it was more pressure than anyone should be under at one time. & Betty understood that, she really did. but sometimes...
❝you don't always have to be so dramatic, Jug.❞ although knowing him, he probably did. crossing over to where he was standing near her bedroom window she gently tugged him towards her bed. sliding her hands underneath his leather jacket she pushed it off of his shoulders to set next to them. ❝it's a lot, I know. I mean, I don't know, but I understand as much as I can.❞ not to mention the fact that Betty was terrified herself. of what parts of him would change, of what decisions he would make. what if it became easier to simply forget about what his life had been like before? if he chose to turn his back on his friends, on her? she had spent countless nights lying awake imagining that exact moment.
so it was as much an effort to convince herself as it was to reassure him, turning his face toward hers lightly. ❝you're not alone, Juggie. you never will be. you have me & I promise you, I promise that I'm not going anywhere. no matter what.❞

BEING A LIST OF THE THIRTEEN GREATEST RIVERDALE LINES, ON THE OCCASION OF THAT SHOW'S TERMINATION
As our much loved/hated show comes to an end, I feel compelled to record, for posterity, the greatest thirteen pieces of dialogue to spring from the pens of RAS and his henchmen. It was, of course, originally a top ten list, but I simply could not exclude a few of these treasures. Without further ado:
13.
“I dropped out in the 4th grade, to sell drugs, to support my nana.”
“That means you haven't known the triumphs and defeats, the epic highs and lows of high school football.”
Spoken by: an inmate of Leopold and Loeb Juvenile Detention Center, and Archie Andrews.
In: 3 x 2
Yeah, okay, this one had to be on the list. It’s funny, I’ll admit. It’s a great example of the overwrought semi-sincere melodrama that helped make this show so special. It’s low on the list largely because The Normies got their hands on it, so every time I hear someone make a reference I get all “do not cite the deep magic to me, witch.”
12.
“No! No! What are we supposed to do now? I’m horny as heck!”
Spoken by: Archie Andrews
In: 7 x 16
Season 7 is undeniably dreadful, and yet there are diamonds in the rough. The occasion is the failure of a projector, just as Archie and Reggie prepare to watch a pornographic film. The utter desperation with which KJ Apa delivers this line is exquisite. One is made to feel they are witnessing a genuine tragedy.
11.
“Tonight, they’re making an exception and debuting a cover of the song my parents claim they were listening to the night Jason and I were conceived.”
Spoken by: Cheryl Blossom.
In: 1 x 1
Really a fantastic line. A wonderful encapsulation of the casual absurdity of Cheryl’s character, and a foretaste of the lunacy we would plumb in later episodes and seasons.
10.
“In case you haven’t noticed, I’m weird. I’m a weirdo. I don’t fit in and I don’t want to fit in. Have you ever seen me without this stupid hat on? That’s weird.”
Spoken by: Jughead Jones
In: 1 x 10
A genuine classic. “High school football” before “high school football.” One is never entirely sure just how sincere the line is meant to be, both on a meta-level and in-universe. A perfect illumination of Jughead’s pretentiousness. It is made all the better by the occasional cuts to Lili Reinhard’s agonized face.
9.
“At the last dance, multiple students were murdered.”
Spoken by: Principal Holden Honey.
In: 4 x 2
Delivered as an explanation to Toni and Cheryl, as to why there would be no school dance this year. Principal Honey is in fact supremely rational in the cancellation of this dance. This being Riverdale, he is of course treated as an unreasonable tyrant.
8.
“Bro, I know all the secrets of this universe.”
Spoken by: Archie Andrews (evil version)
In: 6 x 5
Spoken as evil Archie reveals his evil plan to keep the parallel universes apart. KJ Apa’s delivery once again makes this line. He is comically sinister. Strangely, he sells it.
7.
“A Vughead kiss, right now, in the present might be precisely what it takes to save a future Bughead from imploding.”
Spoken by: Jughead Jones.
In: 2 x 14
One of those lines that both makes me laugh and makes me genuinely angry. This was a fairly early season, and this may have actually been the first line to get me asking, ‘did they genuinely write and deliver that?’ Extra points for use of the atrocious ‘Vughead’ portmanteau ship name rather than ‘Jeronica.’
6.
“I’m the ultimate wild card. I am the daughter of The Black Hood. The nightmare from next door. I’m training with the FBI and I’m coming for you, you psycho bitch.”
Spoken by: Betty Cooper
In: 4 x 14
Just delicious. Another one of those lines that leaves you somewhat unsure whether or not the writers understood how genuinely hysterical it was. “The Nightmare from Next Door” sounds like an announcer hyping up a wrestler. Spoken with a raw sincerity by Lili Reinhart. Also points for the heavy homoeroticism between Betty and Donna.
5.
“For I am Cheryl Blossom, Queen of the Bees.”
Spoken by: Cheryl Blossom.
In: 5 x 16.
This one really doesn’t require any elaboration.
4.
“Elijah ascended…and I will, too.”
Spoken by: Edgar Evernever.
In: 4 x 5.
Admittedly, this one is only spectacular with context. But in context—the context being that Chad Michael Murray delivers this line while dressed like Evel Knievel and standing in a cartoon rocket right out of a Warner Bros cartoon—it becomes utterly magnificent.
3.
“It’s not queer baiting, it’s saving the world.”
Spoken by: Veronica Lodge.
In: 6 x 22.
It’s actually hard for me to decide whether this one is funnier with or without context. Without context it’s wonderful, but it possibly becomes even funnier when you know that the context is that Veronica needs to kiss Cheryl to transfer superpowers into her body so she can turn into a Scarlet Witch knock-off and stop a magic comet summoned by Sephiroth an English wizard who is also the Devil.
2.
“If there’s no wedding reception, it means the Gargoyle King has won.”
Spoken by: Kevin Keller.
In: 3 x 12.
One of my personal favorites. This is a perfect line because like #3, it requires no real elaboration. There is absolutely no context in which it isn’t hysterical.
1 .
“Word of my exploits serving Nick his comeuppance has seeped into the demimonde of mobsters and molls my father used to associate with, so the five families are sending their youngest and brightest, their ‘princes,’ as it were to, well, come court the rare Mafia Princess who can belly up to the bar with the big boys.
Spoken by: Veronica Lodge.
In: 2 x 20.
This is, in my opinion, the all-timer. Every word is perfect. The rapid-fire alliteration. The use of the word ‘demimonde.’ The entirely unnecessary addition of ‘as it were.’ This is borderline Dr. Seuss. The fact that Camila Mendes delivered it without cracking a smile should have won her an Emmy. No. An Oscar. This line is Riverdale.

Things that The Marauders fandom say that pisses me off
warning: i will not be holding back. if you are sensitive do not read. feel free to disagree or anything in the replies but don't be a dick
i'm only doing this cause i'm bored and have a lot of rage in me
also just to be clear if we're mutuals then i'm not on about you :)
"It's so sad that one of the only things we have in cannon is the prank"
or something along those lines. If knowing that the prank is cannon makes you upset then I have some great news for you. Nobody cared about the prank in cannon!!!! it's literally just another Tuesday for the Marauders and not once does anybody lose any friends or hold any grudges about it!! yay, now you can sleep at night!
"Dumbledore raised an army of children twice"
I've already spoken about this before but for anyone who wasn't here please know that this is a lie! Neither time did Dumbledore raise an army of children. You had to be an adult to join The Order and although the Marauders were young they were not children. As for everyone else, their ages are not confirmed. We are the ones who made Marlene and Dorcas the same age as them. For all we know The Marauder's could've been the youngest in the Order by far. As for the DA, Dumbledore literally had no part in that. It was Hermione, Harry and Ron who made the DA. All Dumbledore did was take the blame for it because they named themselves after him
"Dumbledore could've helped Regulus, Evan and Barty"
Firstly it amazes me how these three are the only Death Eaters yall have any sympathy for. I understand Regulus to a point considering we only really hear good things about him from Kreacher but with Evan and Barty genuinely what makes them so special?? Evan is in the exact same pool as Wilkes and y'all don't give a shit about them. Also Barty helped resurrect Voldemort and tortured Frank and Alice. Either way regardless on if you like them or not trust me when i say that if they would've gone to Dumbledore for help he would've helped them. When have we ever seen Dumbledore turn somebody down because they were a Slytherin. This man literally tried to help Draco as he was about to kill him and help the Death Eaters take over Hogwarts. Dumbledore doesn't know everything and he's never passed on the chance for a new spy.
"This fandom is misogynistic for making Lily/Tonks bad mothers/surrogates"
Fanfiction does not equal headcannons. Just because Lily or Tonks are bad mothers in a fanfiction does not mean that the author dislikes them or thinks that they're a bad person in cannon. Also reading about your favourite ship raise a child is a very common trope in fanfiction and as much as Harry and Teddy are Lily and Tonks children they are also James and Remus'. James and Remus are just as responsible for their children and I see nobody batting an eye when the roles are reversed. On top of all of this, Lily and Tonks were young mothers and it's very likely that they would make mistakes or in other universes not be as good as they were in cannon. That does not make them bad people nor does it make them unworthy of being liked. If you don't like it, don't read it cause i know that nobody is saying that Regulus and James raised Harry in cannon.
"Marlene/Dorcas/Mary/Evan is so underrated!"
No they're not. They're mentioned like once or twice. If anything they're incredibly overrated. Nothing wrong with that. Just facts
"Jily is dying out because people are scared to go against Jegulus"
Don't make me laugh. Jily is one of the only cannon ships we have they are literally the blueprint to the entire series. Jily is not dying out, you're just seeing more Jegulus posts because you keep interacting with them and fucking up your own algorithm in order to argue with people in comment sections
"[Insert ship here] need to stop hating on [Insert another ship here] (same with characters)"
I remember one time in the Riverdale fandom when a Bughead shipper did an interview with a magazine pretending to be Lili Reinheart and told this magazine that Bughead will be cannon just to piss the Barchie shippers off. Y'all would not survive "real" fandoms. Just because somebody doesn't like your ship does not make it hate and even if someone does say something like "Jily is trash and I hate it" so fucking what?? it's one person and trust me there is another room on the internet for the both of you. I don't even think I've seen anyone truly post hate about a ship since 2020 when i was in the instagram fandom and the Wolfstar and Blackinnon shippers had each other by the throat
"Jegulus came out of nowhere and I don't understand why people ship it"
Jegulus has been around for as long as i have (2018) and at least to me it's very obvious why people like it. It's the best friends brother, opposite sides of the war, secret relationship, forbidden romance tropes that people love. it's not that hard to understand. And as I said before we know just enough about Regulus to get some sense of what he was like but not all of the bad parts.
"Sirius was tall but Remus was TALL"
There's nothing necessarily wrong with this. I just hate it. Especially if you're commenting on somebody's post about how Sirius is canonically tall. Half the time, unless they say it themselves, they don't think that Remus is taller and don't care if you do
that's all i've got for now. i may do this again :)

down at the drive-in ch 2 sneak peek
I originally had dreams of finishing and posting this investigative bughead story on riverdale series finale day but life got away from me. so, in honor of the end of the ridiculous show that brought us bughead and the beautiful fandom space we’ve all created together, here’s a sneak peek. I love you all and personally, I plan to keep writing rvd fanfic so this isn’t goodbye to our bughead family—it’s just farewell to canon, whatever the hell that even means anymore.
Tumblr media
It’s strange to admit, but the creepy, bigoted mystery she’s been investigating with Jughead has turned Betty’s attitude around. Each day she wakes up with a spring in her step. The hunger she feels to solve this mystery is new and exciting, like nothing she’s ever done before. (And yes, she’s counting the time she streaked with Cheryl and Veronica.)
Every day that week, Betty and Jughead spend their once-quiet lunch hours in the Blue and Gold office examining evidence and talking out theories. They keep the door shut in an unspoken ritual, something sinister about the case lending itself to confidentiality.
On Tuesday, they spend the lunch hour poring over the Riverdale section of 4chan, even following a couple offshoots and more obscure right-wing forums in the area, but come up with no leads. Betty leans over Jughead to see his laptop screen, and there’s a moment when their eyes lock and she knows neither of them are thinking about the case. But the moment passes unacknowledged, and when the bell rings, they go their separate ways.
On Wednesday, they come up with the idea to put up a flier for a Young Republicans club, hoping to bait the bigot into bragging about their crimes. They even consider going shopping for more conservative looking clothing, but then….
…On Thursday, the members of Toni Topaz’s militant feminist club spend their lunchtime meeting phone banking the number on their flier in protest, flooding Jughead’s voicemail inbox with angry messages.
“We should’ve invested in a burner phone,” Jughead murmurs, his phone to his ear as he empties his voice mailbox, one by one.
“I just don’t think the Blue and Gold has a burner phone budget,” Betty insists, and after realizing what she’s said, they both burst out laughing.

I Remember You - 1/1 | bughead fanfiction
A/N: I couldn't get this idea out of my head. Hope my fellow bugheads enjoy.
...
Synopsis: 7x20 - Betty and Jughead's first time during their senior year.
...
That night after their double date with Jughead and Veronica, Archie dropped her off at home. He kissed her sweetly on the lips, their fingers tangling until it was time for her to walk up those steps she knew so well and open the door to her house. She chatted with her mom a little and then went upstairs to her bedroom.
It had been a good night, a fun night. Archie had been a perfect gentleman, and sometimes a little bit of wild poet when she needed him to be. But she’d be lying if she said he was the only one she thought about during those quiet moments in her bedroom.
There’d been that spark between her and Veronica even before their memories had been returned at the tail end of junior year. Something still sizzled between them for sure. But tonight Vee wasn’t the one she was thinking of either.
She might’ve spent two lives in love with Archie and months building up tension with Veronica, but there was another person she felt a connection with, that in a previous life she’d really, truly loved. She loved him hard and deeply, until it consumed her. And then she’d ruined their relationship in the heat of the moment with Archie, and-
Well, she couldn’t stop thinking about it.
Was it right of her to confront him about a relationship that only the two of them knew the good and bad about? The fights, the betrayal, the pain that came with teenage drama? Jealousy, competition… but such a deep love too, and a fierce loyalty despite the mistakes.
It had been eating at her for months, and she knew it now. She couldn’t resist the pull she felt every time they were in the same room.
Re-dressing herself, she snuck out of her house an hour after her beloved Archie had left and made her way to Jughead’s train car on the other side of town.
Climbing the rickety steps, she knocked lightly on the outside door.
“Betty.”
He looked confused and then immediately following, concerned.
“I- Is everything okay? It’s late.”
He folded his arms, and she started to wonder if this was a mistake.
“Yeah, sorry, I- I know it’s late. I just…” She pursed her lips.
“Do you want to come inside?”
Her eyes locked on his, and relief flowered inside her. She nodded, smiling hesitantly but gratefully.
Jughead stepped back to allow her inside. She slipped out of her jacket as soon as she was inside and set it over his chair by his typewriter. She let her eyes linger, and then her fingers brushed over the elevated keys.
“I remember when I gave you this…” she paused when she remembered how very weird their lives were. “I mean, not this one. But-”
“I remember too,” he finished for her, and they shared a smile. “That typewriter was special.”
The moment built, not tension but something more, something exciting and unspoken.
“I-I suppose you’re wondering what I’m doing here, on your doorstep at half-past 10.”
He shrugged innocently.
“I’m so sorry, Jughead, for cheating on you with Archie.”
“Betty, that was a lifetime ago.”
“No, I know, but it’s been eating at me that I never really said it. Those memories…we watched them like they were a movie, but I remember them like they happened to me yesterday, all of them at once. And Jughead, I loved you so much.”
“I loved you too, Betty.”
“I just can’t believe I let you slip away, and I just moved on with Archie, got engaged to Archie, and you moved on with Tabitha. But we never really…we didn’t talk. We didn’t…” Her mouth ran dry, struggling to find the words.
Tears slipped out between her eyelashes and trickled down her cheeks, one on each side.
“And I know I’m with Archie now, and you’re with Veronica, and we’re happy that way. Tonight was great and fun and like old times but not.” A laugh burst out of her. “But I…I still…” She sighed, her breath catching when he wiped away her tears and tilted her chin up so she could see the tears welling up in his eyes too.
“I still too, Betty. I still.”
And then he was leaning down, and their lips caught on fire. Betty moaned into him and caught her hands around his face as he did the same to her. It was a dragging, drugging, lustful kiss, but there was so much love there too. A love that both of them had tried to deny existed anymore for years.
“I’m sorry, Jughead. I’m so-”
“I forgive you, Betty.”
He unbuttoned the buttons dotting the top half of her dress and pushed the fabric over her shoulders.
“I forgive you.”
And then all words were lost in the rush of undressing each other and moving to his bed, a bed that had been hand-designed by Miss Veronica Lodge, Jughead’s girlfriend. But Betty’s mind was hazy. No one existed for her then except for the young man kissing her like she’d forgotten she could be kissed. Jughead traced her skin like he was memorizing it, in case this never happened again, or even if it did. He treated her like a precious jewel he was lucky enough to behold.
And when he moved inside her, their skin coming alive, the air in their lungs exhaled on a chorus of hallelujahs. Betty wrapped her arms around him, clinging to him like a vice, inhaling his scent, threading her fingers in his hair, pulling him tightly to her as if this was the first time. And in a way, it was.
Tomorrow they would go back to their significant others, her to Archie, and he to Veronica. But they wouldn’t forget this night, and it might even happen again.
She didn’t regret it, and she felt in her heart that he didn’t either.
Not when they laid together, their fingers intertwined over their beating hearts after they’d finished. Not when their foreheads pressed together, and they traced the lines on each other’s faces.
As luck would have it, that same night Archie had slipped away to see Veronica, and they’d had a very similar experience. The four of them wouldn’t discuss what it all meant for a few weeks, and not until Betty and Veronica had a sizzling encounter of their own, but one thing was for certain.
Some connections couldn’t be broken. Not that easily. Not by time or erased memories. Not forever, and not this night.
“I love you, Betty,” Jughead had whispered when her eyes were closed long enough that he thought she was asleep. It was the only time he said it that entire year, but there was no mistaking the genuine realness of it.
And Betty carried that with her.

3 + 6 + 29 for the ao3 wrapped questions, please!
3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
I know it’s not done yet but but I’m bending the light connecting you to me (spuffy) is turning into a proud moment for me
Are you leaving or just getting home? Is a love letter basically to Shawn and Angela
And merry and bright (started in 2022 but finished in 2023) - it’s harder for me to write pure fluff and while this does have insightful angsty moments it’s mostly a fluff feel good story and for that I’m proud to have written it
6. Favorite title you used
my current spuffy fic I'm working on - I'm bending the light connecting you to me
a shawn/topanga fic I wrote earlier this year titled watch from a distance just to see you glow
and a bughead fic titled you remind me of a memory I once knew
29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year
I’m gonna have a few - firstly is this passage from my Nace fic directions mean nothing in the dark when you don't know where you stand :
“She has too many memories that hang onto her now. Like ghosts with unfinished business, they cling to her frame, haunting her thoughts with no resolution or goodbye. They’re just there. Stagnant. With nowhere to go but to stay.”
Also this one from I've been losin' much more than anything I've found - a Nace fanfic:
“She was so certain back then that time would never have the will to move again. And yet, time had moved – moved on - moved forward - days gathering into a whole year, an entire three hundred sixty-five passage of moments that she didn’t realize existed. She thinks her disillusion was partly because of the mysteries, partly because of the ghosts. But also, partly, mostly, because of him - because he was there – because he had done something by being present, by holding a steady space by her side. He made it more comfortable – time - he made it easier - to take one step in front of the other – to move on – to move forward.”
This one from Are you leaving or just getting home? - a Shawn/Angela fanfic:
“She turns her head slightly to the right and now she can see it clearer – his smile - it’s curled up just barely on the left, like if they hadn’t been apart in so long, it might extend further into his cheek, but too many passing years have shortened its reach. It’s paired with a breezy almost giggle because laughs aren’t exchanged between the people they’ve gown into, whoever they may be…”
And lastly from but I’m bending the light connecting you to me - a Spike/Buffy
“He waits for her to look back up at him and in some act of amnesty, she doesn’t let more than a minute pass by to grant him her eyes.”
Send in an A03 wrapped ask

Shoutout to that promo for being the funniest fucking thing I’ve ever seen in my life. Instant cackle fest.
“Are we dating?” fucking SENT ME.
We, as a fandom, literally gave Ba more credit than they gave themselves.
Anyway, let’s get that Betty Vale flashback Sunday (please it’s coming with this ~baby), get ready for Bughead, & laugh at how literally nothing Ba is…because that’s canon, friends. (Ima tag this “anti b*rchie for organization but is it really anti anything when they don’t even exist???)

for @bughead-bones and @stonerbughead who asked about my s5 murder mystery au: i plotted like 90% of this story out a year or two ago. who knows if i'll ever actually write it all, but if i do, it's going to switch POVs between betty, jughead & veronica. i've never written veronica's pov before, so that's been a little challenging. here's a snippet from jug's pov!
“Jess, have you seen my tie?”
“Nope.”
Jughead emerges from the bathroom to find her sprawled out across the motel room bed, tapping away at her phone. He presses two fingers to his temple, willing away the headache just barely beginning to throb. “Okay, well could you help me look for it? We’re going to be late.”
“I don’t think you have to wear a tie at a funeral.” Jessica slinks off of the bed anyway, leaning halfway over the chipped tv stand to peer behind it. He resists the urge to redirect her towards a more plausible spot, like the pile of clothes she’s left pooled by the foot of the bed.
“I want to,” he replies tightly. He lifts her leather jacket off the seat of the desk chair — bingo. “Help me tie this?”
She complies, kissing his cheek as she loops the tie around his neck. “You seem really antsy about this.” She tightens the knot at the base of his throat and then tugs on the end a little, teasing, as she steps back.
“I’m about to give a eulogy for my best childhood friend.”
“Yeah, your best friend who stole your girlfriend.” Jessica raises one eyebrow before laying back on the bed again, toying idly with the end of her long, black braid.
Sometimes he wishes he’d never told her about that. If Betty’s at the funeral today, and Jessica figures out who she is, god only knows what she’ll say.
God only knows what he’ll say. It’s been a little over a year since they — he? she? does it matter? — ended whatever you’d call the semi-regular communication they’d carried on with ever since the breakup. For six years they’d texted back and forth: book recommendations, professional accomplishments, the occasional meme that made them think of one another.
None of it came close to scratching the surface of their former relationship. But he misses it. He still finds himself reaching for his phone when he reads an article or a line in a novel that he thinks she’d like. Every time, he forces himself to set it aside. Her silence spoke for her, loud and clear: she doesn’t want to hear from him.
Jughead turns back towards the bathroom mirror, pretending to fiddle with his hair. “That was seven years ago.”
And I’m over it. And I’ve forgiven him. All the words Jughead knows he should say — the words that he thinks, most days, are true — congeal like putty in his mouth, unable to emerge fully formed.
“And now he’s dead,” he adds, unnecessarily.
It still feels unreal, conceptually speaking: Archie is dead. Sure, he may have had some brushes with death — Jughead’s had more than a few of his own — but Archie Andrews wasn’t the kind of person who would just die. He half expects that when he walks into the church this afternoon, Archie will be standing right there, gathered with all their old friends and acquaintances, laughing at what a gullible sucker Jughead’s become in his not-yet-old age.
But the article is still there loaded on his phone, same as it was one week ago when JB had texted him the link: LOCAL ACTIVIST FOUND DEAD. Friends of Archie Andrews, 25, say they have questions.
The piece went on to quote names Jughead used to encounter on a daily basis: Local businesswoman Toni Topaz. Riverdale Sheriff Tom Keller. Town coroner Dr. Curdle Jr. It read almost like something he himself had penned as a macabre writing exercise, filling in the blanks of a murder mystery plot with the people who had once formed the landscape of his own life.

I love how ba's are immediately getting pissed about the trailer and run to their biased screener to get confirmation again that this kiss doesn't mean anything. Hell. Even as a bughead I know it won't mean anything and that it's just stupid bait. They scream so loud about bh being dead but as soon as they share the screen, the screener needs to tell them 3 times that it's not a big deal. Insecurity is a bad look on them LOL
They're so confident, anon. So very sure but a BH scene completely derails it.
Look, as a BH, I am fully aware it's bait, will probably be a short scene and I don't expect that thread to be picked up in the 50s. I don't need a screener to tell me that. My expectations are well managed. I don't think they could say the same.
As I've said, I expect nothing of BH in the 50s and with the very comics vibe they're going with, I'm pretty sure we're not supposed to take any 50s ship seriously, save for maybe Choni and if the triangle keeps leaning VA, maybe them. Otherwise? It's just an excuse to be ~aesthetic and for Roberto to play with his Archie dolly some more.
I am just here to collect my endgame, and I sense that's out of the 50s arc. I am just here to laugh at the show and have no expectations, but I doubt they could say the same.

Writer’s Month Prompts (written for @writersmonth )
Day 23 - Lodge (Bughead)
(Note: This story is a (surprise) follow up to Day 19′s story - Bubbles and Single Parent(s). Enjoy.)
“Here you are, Juggie.” Betty joined Jughead on the balcony porch. He appeared deep in thought as he gazed out into the tamed wilderness behind the lodge. She couldn’t help but wonder if the notebook abandoned on the chair had anything to do with his contemplative expression.
Despite the crisp autumnal chill, he looked cozy with a plaid blanket wrapped around his shoulders and a mug of steaming coffee cupped in his hands. Back home, as the weather had cooled, he’d taken to wearing a knitted crown beanie. Apparently, he used to wear the hat all the time before they had met. She found the addition charming.
“Good morning.” Jughead kissed her lightly on lips before turning his attention back to the view. Through a gap in the towering pines, they spied a glimpse of the lake. The sun glinted like diamonds off the gently lapping waves. “How’d you sleep?”
“Gloriously.” Betty carefully balanced her coffee mug along the railing, then reached up, stretching long and lean. The stretch raised the hem of the oversized sweatshirt she’d stolen from Jughead ages ago, revealing a strip of bare skin. His mug-warmed fingers traced chastely along her lower back. Still, she squirmed as the light touch tickled.
“Don’t stop,” she pleaded as his touch drifted away and the sweatshirt once again covered her skin.
A smirk tugged at his lips as he leaned down to whisper in her ear. “Later, when the kids aren’t twenty feet away in the living room.”
“Tease.” She sighed and rested her head against his shoulder. Unfortunately, he was right. Jellybean was partaking in her tradition of Saturday morning cartoons. The twins were excited to join in this treat. Betty generally tried to limit the about of screen time the twins had access to, but she couldn’t deny it was nice being able to have a proper lie in while Jellybean and the twins amused themselves for a bit.
Jughead hummed a noncommittal response. “I still can’t believe Veronica just let us borrow this place for the week. It’s like a mansion plopped in the middle of the backwoods. Still feels like it must be a dream or something.”
“As I said last night, welcome to Lodge Lodge. Veronica is generous with her friends. She's offered to let me come up here before, but I've never taken her up on it before now.” Betty sipped her coffee, trying to remember the last time she was here. It definitely wasn't this peaceful. “V used to bring the whole gang up here all the time during high school. We’d have these unsupervised parties and do a bunch of stupid stuff. Nothing too dangerous, I suppose, but you wouldn’t believe the number of headaches and fights which followed us back home after a weekend away.”
Shaking her head, Betty struggled to push aside the melancholy she associated with growing up too fast, which surfaced anytime she reflected too long on her carefree past. “This is the first time I’ve been back here since I got custody of the twins. Suddenly getting drunk and fighting about who stole whose boyfriend felt lest important, you know…”
“Betts, stop.” He press a kiss to the crown of her head. “It’s okay to mourn what you loss. It’s also okay to want things for yourself.”
“I know, I know.” She really did, but sometimes it felt selfish. Selfish to still want that life when she wouldn’t trade being ‘mom’ to the twins for the world. “Do you ever miss what your life could have been?”
He shrugged. “I don’t know. I mean I’ve been doing this since I was sixteen, so I didn’t exactly have a normal high school experience. Even if I wasn’t taking care of Jelly, I wasn’t exactly Mr. Popular. No one was going to invite me to the high school dance or weekend parties in the woods.”
Despite herself, Betty laughed. “Not to be all gender norms and stuff, but I think guys are still more likely to ask the girls to the dance.”
“Betts,” he voice dropped to that deep rumble that made her shiver. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her flush against his body. She could feel the thrum of his heartbeat. “You’re the first girl I ever wanted to invite to a dance and I didn’t meet you until recently. So, no, even if I had the opportunity, I wouldn’t have invited another girl to the dance.”
“I wouldn’t mind if you had….” Betty never knew how to respond when he said things like that. He made her feel special, and cherished, and loved by him, but it was also so far from her experiences.
Jughead rested his cheek on top of her head. “I know. Don’t worry about it. I don’t regret any of my decisions. I wouldn’t exchange taking care of Jelly for the world of normal opportunities. Besides, it led me to you. I can’t think of anything better.”
She melted into his embrace. They’d been dating for six months—almost as long as they’d known each other and their lives had almost seamlessly melded together. Suddenly, there was another person in their lives they could depend on. Betty lost track of the times he volunteered to watch the twins while she went to a doctor’s appointment or stayed late for a study session. Likewise, she returned the favor, letting Jellybean stay with her when Jug picked up an extra shift or visited his dad in prison. While they scheduled semi-regular date nights, more often than not, their mutual free evenings were spent together at his or her apartment with all the kids and doing normal family things. Making supper, doing homework, watching moves—that sort of thing.
The twins had quickly taken to Jughead. Following Betty’s example, they called him Juggie. When he was there at bedtime, they begged him to be part of their bedtime routine—reading stories and tucking them in—and were disappointed when he wasn’t there in the morning. Last spring, not long after they started dating, Juni’s pre-school class was having a ‘Daddy-Daughter’ event. Jug hadn’t even blinked when Juni had asked him to come.
On the other hand, Betty wasn’t certain what Jellybean thought of her. While she got along great with the twins—patiently playing with them, reading to them, teaching them new things— Jelly was wary around Betty. Jug’s sister was unfailingly polite and whenever Betty babysat her, the girl seemed to enjoy herself. But, when Jug was around, Jellybean would never talk directly to Betty. She’d always ask Jug first if she wanted something from Betty. He refused to play go-between so Jelly would need to decide between not getting what she wanted or talking to Betty.
“Whatchya thinking about?” Jug broke into her silent reverie.
“Us. Our families. Jelly.” She threaded her fingers between his.
Jughead tensed. She could feel the tension travel through his jaw and down into his arms. “I’m sorry about how she acts. I don’t know what’s gotten into her…”
“It’s fine. I mean, it’s not fine-fine. But, it’s normal. I’m the new woman in your life. She’s protective of her big brother who’s always so protective of her.” Betty worried at her lower lip for a moment as she decided whether or not to broach the subject. “Juggie, I think she might be worried that if we…well, you know, move forward with our relationship. Get more serious…”
“Betts, I am absolutely serious about you.”
“And I’m serious about you too…” She swatted at his arm. “Now, stop distracting me.”
“Yes ma’am.” He wrapped her arms around her waist and picked her up. She squealed, but didn’t fight as he carried her over to one of the deck chairs and settled her on his lap. “Go on.”
She cuddled up against him and teased at the bit of hair which snuck out from under his beanie. “I was saying, I think Jelly might be afraid that if you get serious about me, you’ll leave her too. Like your mom and dad. So, she’s making certain you know she needs you.”
Jug swore under his breath. “I thought… I was trying…I wanted her to never feel that way. I was hoping she knew that no matter what happens in our lives, I’ll always be there for her.”
“Shh, it’ll be okay Juggie.” Betty pressed her forehead against his. “Deep down she knows. She’s been your world for so long now that she’s needing to learn how to share you. Remember, while you’ve always been there for her, when big life things happen, your parents weren’t. As much as that hurts you, it also hurt her. She needs time to get used to me and to see that things won’t change between you and her.”
“I’ve got a smart girlfriend.” Jug lifted his face and nibbled at her jawline.
Betty laughed as she stretched her neck to give him better access. “Why thank you. And, just so you know, I have an absolutely amazing and caring boyfriend.”
“Do you now?” he mumbled around the kisses he lavished down her neck. Tugging lightly at the neckline of the sweatshirt, he revealed the edge of her collarbone. He pressed a kissed to the spot, sucking slightly in order to leave his mark on her skin.
Everything came to a sudden and hasty stop as the balcony door opened.
“Jug?” Jellybean called.
Betty was thankful that her back was to the door. Between that and her hair, the kids wouldn’t have been able to see what the adults were getting up to. Suddenly, Betty felt a bit like a teenager again, getting caught in a compromising position. She adjusted the neckline of the sweatshirt so everything was covered.
“Breathe,” Jug whispered as he brushed her hair behind her ear. His lingering caress was light and intimate.
Glancing around his girlfriend, Jug waved his sister over. “All done with your cartons?”
“Yeah.” She stayed beside the door, swinging it back and forth. “Um, I’m hungry.”
“Okay, I’ll get you some cereal.” Jughead started to scoot to the edge of the chair. Betty slipped off his lap and started to gather their abandoned coffee mugs.
“Actually, I was wondering,”—Jellybean studied her fingers and picked at a hangnail—“Betty, will you make pancakes?”
“Of course,” Betty couldn’t stop the thousand watt smile breaking out across her face. “I’d love to. Would you like to help?”
Jelly nodded.
“All right, why don’t you head in and wash your hands. I’ll join you in the kitchen in a moment.”
Jughead squeezed her hand, silently sharing the joy of the moment.
“Okay.” Jellybean dashed inside to follow Betty’s instructions.
Following Jelly inside, Jughead and Betty paused in the living room to check on the twins. Though no one was paying attention to the television, the cartoon continued to play. DJ colored while Juni built with Duplos.
“Go on.” Jug turned off the tv. “I’ll keep an eye on the twins.”
“Can you read us a story?” Juni asked. She looked up at him with large hopeful eyes.
“Of course.” Jug settled on the couch and the twins were soon cuddled against his sides, each with a stack of books.
I love you, Betty mouthed silently as Jug settled in the center of the couch. The twins cuddled up at his sides, each with a stack of books.
Jug winked, and returned the sentiments in an equally silent, I love you.
Knowing her kids were in good hands, Betty proceeded to the kitchen on the ground floor. Jellybean had already started to lay out mixing bowls, measuring cups, and a pancake flipper.
“Thanks, that’s very helpful.” Betty set the coffee mugs in the sink as she washed her hands.
Jelly's cheeks colored at the praise. She hesitated a moment before asking shyly, “Can we have blueberry pancakes?”
Neither the twins nor Jughead were fond of blueberry pancakes, so Betty didn’t make them often.
“Certainly. And, I’ll let you in on a secret,” Betty whispered conspiratorially, “they’re my favorite too,”
In Jellybean’s answering grin, Betty saw a trace of Jughead’s mischievous glint. She also noted the acknowledgment in Jelly’s eyes that the girl recognized Betty as ally and an adult she could trust.
Betty’s heart soared. She couldn’t help but think that they were one step closer to becoming a family for keeps.

To summarise:
6x14 or “Nothing has been scientific since the explosion”
This is an episode about the epic highs and lows of adult superpowers.
After dedicating one whole episode to Archie, the World’s Mostest Invinciblest Man, it’s time to learn about the downside of having superpowers. Yeap, you guessed it: it’s Betty and Veronica’s time to shine.
Cheryl debates over the possibility of calling Heather. Nana Rose, who knows firsthand what being a secondary character in Riverdale is like, says no. Cheryl, on the other hand, who is core four adjacent, and knows Heather won’t be having any scenes without her, says yes.
It’s whatever o’clock, which means Archie has some free time away from RHS to visit his good friend Jughead, who also has some free time away from RHS, and whine about Percival. Is Betty at work? Is the Diner still open? Who knows? Who cares?
Nothing has been scientific since the explosion, says Archie, i.e. the Riverdale writers are breaking the 4th wall.
There was only one prison doctor: Dr Curdle Jr, coroner, pediatrician, almost obstetrician, now toxicologist-at-a-mortuary-nearby-you, diagnoses Veronica with high toxicity. All the toxic encounters with daddykins had to lead somewhere, I guess.
Veronica embraces her black-widowesque nature by dressing like a black widow, i.e. like a widow. Who wears black. As Reggie puts it: “You look insane”. (But also hot).
Archie tries to build up immunity to palladium by exposing himself to it. Cheryl warns him that he’s playing with forces beyond his understanding. To be fair, this is Archie, so everything is beyond his understanding. Anyway.
Cheryl asks Nana Rose for her book on Rasputin for some esoteric info that could help Archie. I believe she’s looking for the part that goes: Ra ra Rasputin / Lover of the (ex) Serpent Queen / They put some palladium into his wine / Ra ra Rasputin / Riverdale’s greatest love machine / He drank it all and said, "I feel fine". There is truly nothing scientific after the explosion. Also, adult stories.
“I can’t be weak in the face of Percival” says Archie while implementing a regiment that will ensure he becomes even weaker.
Betty asks Archie is he’s ok. He initially lies but then comes clean and asks her to open a can for him. Archie thanks Betty and proceeds to ask her how she is. Nah. Kidding.
Betty asks Jughead to read her subconscious mind and unlock her repressed memories, because, yes, you guessed it, there is more misery for Betty.
She organises her memories into Betty Cooper’s Comic Spectacular, a series of comic books for Jughead to read in his mind’s eye. Bughead hold hands and they’re immediately transported to their first kiss and discussion about babies. We now know why they haven’t shared any one-on-one scenes: too hot.
Veronica is furious that Reggie is in cahoots with charlatan Percival with whom she’s also in cahoots (since she has accepted his triple rent and allowed him to live at the Babylonium).
She could have poisoned Percival but, no, she gives Reggie a nosebleed instead.
Chris O’Shea has made Percival’s amusement at the core four shenanigans into a character trait and can now smile and laugh at their lines without breaking character. Respect.
Dr Curdle Jr thinks Ronnie is going to die by all the toxins. He’s a man of science, therefore, he doesn’t understand her venomous superpower: Veronica is cursed with the snot of doom the kiss of death. The lick of murder. The nibble of demise.
Heather is a(n almost) completely new character, so, in lieu of backstory, she’s mentioned thrice during the episode to make the transition smoother. Right.
Betty has another appointment with Jug, so she dons her green blazer, the one that goes with Jug’s sofa and that makes her eyes pop. For science.
It turns out Alice had been lying about not having the serial killer jeans (only acceptable spelling). Also, Hal tried to groom Betty into a serial killer when she was little but, like, only once. (Suspiciously, the same once involving the late Caramel that we already knew about). Canon rewrite or clue that this universe -much like the Vale- is collapsing?
Beronica are about to have a girls night at the Wyrm! Will they pass the Bechdel test this time?
The answer is no, because Betty invited Archie as well.
As he becomes less dense, Archie finally realizes what was established 7 episodes ago: palladium makes him weak. Archie stops microdosing with Cheryl’s palladium soup (actual words) because the palladium in it made him lose strength. Will he forget again once he becomes denser? Only time will tell.
Cheryl is about to forge Archie through the power of metal transmutation. I mean, it’s not as if the writers haven’t warned us about the nons(i)ense. Betty wants to know if there are any drawbacks. Cheryl admits that Archie might die during the process but she didn’t consider it important. Betty’s furious but I’m with Cheryl. Surprisingly, so is Archie.
Faced with the possibility of death, Archie asks for one more night of sex. The level of b*rchie romance is killing me. Faster than palladium kills Archie, I might add.
After sex with Archie, another traumatic experience: Betty discovers what’s under the floorboards under the dining table. It’s proof that Alice Cooper - the same one who goaded Hal for not being able to kill anybody back in s2- knew about Hal’s extracurricular activities - and was afraid of him. Again, canon rewrite or clue?
Bummer: Archie didn’t die.
Archie’s SAT Greek is as good as his SAT English, the words ‘power’ and ‘combination’ are, nevertheless, pronounced and are, apparently, enough to turn his biceps into iron and his brain into tin. Archie can now officially shit steel and burp filings. Breathing might turn out to be a problem, what with all that oxygen … His hair remain red but it’s now due to rust.

And another Lodge bites and another Lodge bites-
Another Lodge bites the snack!
Betty finds an opportunity to get rid of Archie without him realising and gets on with it: she tells him to make out with Veronica, so that she can get her mojo back.
Fortified by Archie’s kiss, Ronnie dedicates Britney Spears’ Toxic to B*rchie and the Casino’s shareholders.
Meanwhile, after having touched Betty’s hands twice, Jughead gets rapid-fire flashbacks of Bughead kisses. RIP Tabitha’s shoulder.
Heather arrives at Thornhill but that is a story for the next episode.
Toffee had to run to the mall to get some anticorrosive spray and metal shiner to polish Archie’s abs. The sooner Veronica gets a glimpse of them, the sooner, Toffee can steer Betty in the right direction.

2022 Fanfiction Reading Challenge
October Stats 🎃
Tumblr media
Happy November, my friends! We managed to wait until today to get our first real dusting of snow - so that’s fun for us. Halloween is one of my favourite holidays - my daughter dressed as Princess Peach and her friends were various Mario characters. They were a hit! We just moved into a new neighbourhood - and literally only had 34 little trick-or-treaters. VERY different from our last house where we’d have steady kids from 4pm-10pm and go through several boxes of treats... now I have two big bowls left over. Whatever shall we do? 😏
Fandom-wise, I’m two tasks away from completing the @fanfic-reading-challenge - in fact, I’m only waiting on the month requirement tasks (fics that have to be read in Nov and Dec) and then I’m completely done the Regular, Hard, AND Extreme challenges. Thank you all for joining me on this journey - for the messages with fic suggestions and for being patient with my monthly run-downs. What started as my comfort!fic rundowns in April 2020 (after the infamous leak™️) has become something fun for me anyway - even if no one else is reading these. lol.
The last few weeks were pretty challenging as far as doing the fic challenge - because I had to read several longer-ish stories from fandoms I am not part of and don’t really know much about. It gave me an appreciation for some new fandoms and pairings - and it also made me miss the Golden Era of my own fandom and the quality of the fics profoundly. I think I’m going to spend my November rereading those stories. Suggestions for your faves would be welcome.
I started reading Daemon/Rhaenyra this month and have been SO pleased with the stories - there is one that is currently a WIP that is absolutely glorious and I drop everything when it’s updated to read it right then! I legit read 46 different fandoms in this one month - most were because of the challenge, but I know I’ll return to many of them in the future. If you were to read one fandom outside of your norm - what is it?
–
Anyway - as per usual, here are a few recs for the month (and if you’re still into SPOOKY READS - you should check out my Bughead Halloween Fic Rec Post) - and as always, if you have any favourite stories (that you loved reading or even that you wrote - in any fandom), please let me know. I’d love to know what you’ve been reading and I never complain about new stories to read. 👻
foolish hearts (series) by @catthecoder (5 fics - Bughead)
Summary:  When a federal agent Betty Cooper gets assigned a case featuring an art thief and forger Jughead Jones, she doesn’t really think much of it. But as months pass, alongside the irritation caused by both the lack of progress in the case and the criminal himself, other feelings start to blossom as well; particularly the ones of respect and admiration. And the fact that Jughead is more intrigued by the agent on his case than terrified of her certainly doesn’t help much with keeping their relationship strictly professional. In their lines of work, pleasure and business certainly shouldn’t mix, but who’s there to stop their foolish hearts?
Why you should read it: HOW DID I MISS THIS THE FIRST TIME?! This is wonderful. THE WHOLE SERIES. Glorious. I was stuck in my feels the whole time. I legitimately LOVED each character - flaws and all - and I FELT for them. And the writing is beautiful. I was physically sad when I reached the end and there was no more to read in this universe. What a gift.
-
Hold the Rock by @avocadomooon (1/1 - Tyrion/Sansa)
Summary: "Nag? No. A bad wife nags. A good wife advises," Tyrion said. "And you are a very good wife." "Thank you, my lord," Sansa said. "Now comes the part where you tell me I'm a very good husband." "You are passable, my lord," she said, and Tyrion laughed.
Why you should read it: Okay - so I know you’re skeptical because it’s not a pairing people generally think “oooh that sounds good” - BUT TRUST ME - this was REALLY good. Alternate universe a bit - where Ned doesn’t go down to KL. It’s arranged marriage - but I promise, the depth of these characters is just TOP NOTCH. It’s a one-shot but it’s a long one - and you’re love these two by the end of it.
-
Let Her Own Works Praise Her in the Gates by @chronicbookworm (1/1 - Mary Bennet/Mr. Collins)
Summary:  Circumstances (and Mary) conspire to make Mr Collins propose to Mary instead of Charlotte Lucas. The new Mrs Collins finds a place for herself in Hunsford, finds a cause to champion, and finds more courage than she knew she had.
Why you should read it: OKAY OKAY - So I know you’re going to give me the side eye and say “Jandy, why are we reading about very well boiled potatoes?” - but I have to tell you, this is how Austen should have written the Mr. Collins storyline. Mary is FANTASTIC here. A bit manipulative, but for the good of everyone. Honestly - if you like Austen or Austen fics at all, please give this one shot a try. It was very very well written and the characters are really likeable (even Collins) - well, except Lady Catherine (BUT - Mary tells her off, so it’s fabulous). Anyway - read it. It was a joy for me this month.
I hope you enjoy the recs and I hope you have a wonderful week.❤️
