you can use either puppets, characters, creatures, OCs... whatever. then send that to me so i can turn that into a Grumpus, or Bugsnax, as i see fit. {will be stylized according to my vibes}

requirements: reference image and name. preferably also the fandom name if that's what you're doing.. optional: specific food to turn into a bugsnak along side it, specific character to replace, specific details to have.. anything else you think about.

have fun! and if it takes me a while, i might be struggling to figure out how exactly to do something.

Gramble- a sleep deprived rancher that sees bugsnax as his family.

Wiggle- a music star trying to find her next hit of inspiration.

Triffany- an archeologist figuring out what happened to her grandma.

Cromdo- a sleezy salesman searching for his big money maker.

Chandlo- a surfer dude sweetheart looking out for his partner.

Snorpy- a nervous conspiracy theorist that made all the inventions.

Floofty- an experimental doctor seen as an untrustworthy being.

Shelda- a religious hypocrite hiding her true self behind her beliefs.

Eggabell- a doctor always trying to be better than she thinks she is.

Lizbert- the missing explorer.

Journalist- the player, the one here to help sort through the problems.

Clumby- the boss that's not letting on with how much she knows.

Alegander- a lonely, slightly bitter, being. with one snak he's dubbed his friend.

Snakqueen- an amalgamation of snax, twisted and malformed.

Snaxquatch- Cryptid

A Handy-Dandy Guide to the Cast’s Regional Dialects

A couple people have asked me how the cast would sound in the AU. So, I figured I’d give my go on how I imagine the cast would sound! Bare in mind I don’t know Literally Every Regional Dialect In The World, so I might word things wrong. It’s a bit of a long tangent, so I’ll put it under the read-more to spare everyone’s dashes of my accent jargon.

Filbo: In the base game, he has a General American English dialect (to avoid repeating over and over again, a General American English dialect means a pretty standard American accent with no real quirks here or there). I imagine in this AU, he sounds the same.

Ripley: I actually made a video on my primary Bugsnax blog about what I imagine my OCs would sound like, Ripley included. My voice claim for them is Haley Joel Osment, so hopefully that gives a good idea of what they’d sound like!

Triffany: In the base game, Triffany has a fairly pronounced and noticeable Midwest accent (I'd say a mix of Minnesota and Milwaukee-Wisconsin accent). I think she would have a slightly gruffer accent in AU, something closer to a Boston or New Jersey dialect. It would probably match her tougher, more cynical personality.

Cromdo: In the base game, Cromdo has a thick ‘Eyyy-I’m-Walkin’-Here New Jersey/New York accent. It would go unchanged in the AU.

Wiggle: I’ll be honest and admit I haven’t the foggiest idea what you’d classify Wiggle’s accent to be. Sure, it’s a posh-sounding dialect, but which dialect specifically is beyond me. British? Californian? Beats me. Either way, I imagine she’d sound about the same, maybe a little softer.

Gramble: In the base game, Gramble has a southern accent. More specifically, he has a mid-southern Cajun accent. In the AU, he’d sound about the same, albeit it a posh sort of flamboyance to it (I’d say something similar to Dolly Parton).

Wambus: Like Gramble, he also has a southern accent, but specifically an Appalachian accent. In the AU, he’d sound about the same.

Beffica: In the base game, Beffica has a classic Californian “valley girl” accent, and it’s no different in the AU. It’s all about the brand recognition, baby!

Chandlo: Like Beffica, Chandlo also has a Californian dialect, but more similar to a “surfer”/“dudebro” sort of accent. But surprisingly, in the AU, it’s a lot different. I wanted to give him an accent that was European like Snorpy’s, but still has that Californian edge. The easiest answer? SCOTTISH. Tragically, I have no idea how to write Scottish dialogue, so just imagine his dialogue with a Scottish accent.

Snorpy: Snorpy is an inverse on Chandlo’s accent change. Instead of a Californian becoming European, he’s a European (more specifically, a British person) becoming Californian. He’d sound pretty similar to Sonic the Hedgehog (who, coincidentally, his voice actor played too), but with more maturity behind his voice.

Shellsy: As Shellsy isn’t doing the whole “Shelda” jargon in this AU, she’d have the dialect she does in the parts of the game where she breaks character (which I have to assume is also American General English? But I could be wrong).

Flooftix: When in character, Floofty maintains their canonical British accent, only heavily exaggerated. But out of character, they drop the accent, having a similar Californian dialect to Snorpy.

Lizbert: In the base game, Lizbert has a rough Australian accent. In the AU, I imagine it’d be downplayed, almost British-sounding, to match her more reserved personality.

Eggabell: Last but not least, Eggabell! She has a American General English accent, and it’d stay the same in the AU.

So, there you have it! If you need resources on how to write the cast’s dialogue, or even how to portray it in comic dubs, now you know! Hope this is of help.

utterly DELIGHTED by the spanish translations of the main cast’s names

i’ll be looking at both the latin american and castilian spanish translations, but for the sake of my hands, this’ll just be covering the main expedition members. also, disclaimer that spanish is only my second language, so i might be missing out on some stuff! if you have any fun dub name observations in either of the spanish translations or in any other language, i’d love to hear ‘em!

- filbo's last name in latin american spanish is nomanda, which is probably supposed to be referencing “no manda” as in "not in charge/doesn't make the rules/isn't the boss."

- beffica’s name in the latin american translation is fisgona averiguatodo. i Think “fisgona” is just supposed to mean “snoop” while “averigua todo” translates to “find out everything.” her castilian last name, metomentodo, translates to something like “meddler/busybody”

- wambus’ latin american name is granjo aralatierra. i assume his first name is just supposed to be granja as in farm but with an o. aralatierra i’m pretty sure is just supposed to be "a la tierra"/"down to earth." his castilian name is pancho alaplancha which is VERY fun, but i don’t have much to say about it except that “a la plancha” just means “on the griddle.”

- actually a LOT of characters in the castilian spanish translation seem to just have real food names? filbo’s name in castilian spanish is just “cinnamon french toast,” beffica’s name boniata is pretty obviously derived from “boniato” aka “sweet potato,” gramble is pepenillo aka “pepinillo” aka “pickle,” etc etc. makes me wonder if it operates on chowder rules where most of the characters are named after real food but the food/bugsnax have punny names.

- speaking of gramble, his last name in both spanish translations is risitas! which translates to “giggles.” a pretty literal translation, but it’s also adorable, so i find it worth noting. in latin american spanish, his first name is bondoso, which generally means something along the lines of “kind/good-natured/etc.”. curiously, this is NOT his name in the portuguese translation, even when bondoso has the same general meaning there (i.e. “kindness”)

- wiggle’s latin american name is soprina serpentina! not sure what her last name is supposed to be referencing?? either it’s a loose connection to wigglebottom because snakes. wiggle. or it’s calling her a figurative snake? not sure. her castilian name is meneo desenfreno; “meneo” is a pretty direct translation of her english first name, while “desenfreno” translates Roughly to “indulgence”/”lack of restraint”

- triffany’s name sadly seems to have gotten pretty un-noteworthy spanish translations - the most notable thing about it is that her castilian surname is “explorarruina.”

- cromdo’s latin american name is oportu nista. “oportunista.” self-explanatory. his castilian spanish name is roco cararroca which admittedly i am at a Loss for how to translate. anyone more fluent in castilian than me pls get back to me on this.

- chandlo’s name in latin american spanish is adonis parkuro. adonis. parkuro. a parkouring adonis. i love it. his name in the castilian spanish translation is fortacho guacamole, which i Also have a hard time translating. guacamole is obvious but fortacho i’ve only heard Specifically to refer to... cars? well-built/sturdy cars specifically.

- the fizzlebean siblings’ first names are either unremarkable or untranslatable for me (in latin american spanish, snorpy is given the Pretty self-explanatory first name of inventín, which is the most i can make of it.) HOWEVER in castilian spanish, their last name is bichorraro, which is derived from “bicho raro” - literally translated, that just means “strange bug,” but used colloquially it means something along the lines of “freak/weirdo.”

- shelda’s name in latin american spanish is chamala, which i’m Told refers to smoking tobacco specifically which would be funny but i can't find anything else verifying that. her name in castilian spanish is yerba, which just means herb.

- in latin american spanish, eggabell is cascabell patipollo! not sure where her first name comes from, but her last name looks like it’s derived from “pato y pollo” aka “duck and chicken,” so i can only assume the egg puns were preserved somehow. in castilian spanish, her name is huevabell zampanuggets. “hueva-” is pretty obviously derived from “huevo”/”egg,” while the “zampa” in her last name is i Think supposed to translate to “gobble.”

- lizbert Also got pretty literal translations in both spanish versions, with the notable exception of her castilian surname, which is higochumbo, aka “prickly pear”/”barbary fig.”

my mind has been plagued lately by my genius idea for a bugsnax pokemon au, i dub thee "pokesnax" and i wanna flesh it out more because holy SHIT i love thinking abt this so much and i wanna share it with yall

each grumpus has a specific type and position in the story, it takes place somewhat similar to a mix of the pokemon story formula and bugsnax combined (the journalist is the protag trainer btw), filbo is your friendly "rival" (like hau or hop from the games) and so on and so forth

i cant wait to come up with everyones teams too HEHEHEHEHE

So I redid Block's Backstory a little bit and got a new oc out of it

Meet Doctor Watzon HackSaw

one of the most smartest grumpuses in the triplicate, some even say THE smartest. How ever, Watzon liked to abide by his own rules, his own laws. While in the Triplicate he would write books dedicated to his studies, reaching a massive audience (Including a certain leg eating grumpus) Thanks to the Triplicate's goals, to tame bugsnax, Watzon came up with an idea: to make a creature that would bridge the gap between Grumpus and Bugsnax, a hybrid of the two. The Triplicate's higher ups scoffed at the idea, dubbing it as insane. Then the man actually started to make the experiment a reality. The triplicate saw this and banished him to Snaxtooth. Before fully banishing him, Watzon was able to steal some equipment, just enough to create the hybrid, using his own DNA.

And thus, Block Hacksaw was created.

Watzon wasn't expecting to get so.. attached to the young creature, but as he held them in his arms he melted. Block wasn't just an experiment anymore, Block was his child.

Though he's still very bitter about his banishment and often comes off as cold and grumpy. But he still has a heart. He's a good man on the inside, despite his rather bitter nature.

I don't mind talking about myself. Feel free to DM as well if you just want to chat. But to get to how I ended up here:

I actually did not particularly grow up with the pokemon games. My parents didn't have us own any video game consoles, and I had a saturday school, so I only ever saw an episode or two of the dubbed anime, and played my first Pokemon game (Alpha Sapphire) by borrowing by boyfriend's gameboy in high school. I sort of picked up stuff from cultural osmosis, but it wasn't a Big Childhood Nostalgia thing for me. I would play more Pokemon games over the years (especially as my girlfriend (I'm polyam)) is a huge fan. I liked Sun&Moon and got really into Pokemon Masters for a time.

A huge thing about me is that when it comes to fantasy (which I've been a fan of all my life) I really like naturalistic perspectives. I like any fiction where mythical creatures are treated as something with an ecology and behaviors and environmental niche. I don't know if it's something to do with me identifying as a therian/otherkin, or is an unrelated coincidence. But as a kid it's why I liked the Spiderwick Chronicles and Fablehaven, and as I've grown older, continue to like games like Bugsnax.

So when the new Pokemon Snap came out it was nearly perfect. When playing other Pokemon games, I would always get a dopamine spike when discovering/catching a new mon, but I would always get tired of constant battles, especially with any grinding. A game with no battling, where I'm expected to observe Pokemon in their natural environments, was really enrapturing for me.

I would always look for more creature collector games, but often they were basically Pokemon. And in some of these searches I read about the Pokemon Ranger games, and was intrigued, but didn't have a way to play them.

Fast forward to earlier this year, when my gf mentioned she owned the ranger games and I was able to try them. I instantly fell in love with the world. I figured I would eventually hit a barrier where my skill level would make it too difficult to continue. But I didn't find myself getting bored/put off the way I did with battles. The philosophical concept of being a ranger was perfect for me. I liked the idea of my job being to protect pokemon and the environment. I didn't find the side quests annoying because I liked the idea of helping someone find their lost pet more than I liked the idea of battling a hiker for the tenth time. Even the things I imagine other players might find annoying (like not being able to keep a permanent team or take them out of a region) I liked. One, because it meant if I was solving a puzzle, the solution was within the space I was in and I didn't need to travel a lot to find some pokemon. And two, because it fit the philosophy of the game: as a ranger, you wouldn't want to introduce species to a non-native environment. And this is personal to me, but I do have a personal connection to spring as a season (related to otherkin stuff) so the setting of Fiore having a constantly temperate Spring-themed location with a nearby forest/prairie was like *chef's kiss* in terms of places I'd like to live.

Over the years, I had liked pokemon and the general world. But I struggled to see myself as a trainer or develop a trainersona of any kind. At best, I could imagine myself as a pokemon. Playing the first Pokemon ranger game really hit me in the "this is it. If I got to live in the Pokemon world, this is the kind of life I'd want to live/the kind of person I'd want to be".

I've since played Shadows of Almia (liked the easier capture mechanics, though I think having one partner per type, while helpful, takes away some from the partner development).

I'm now making my way though Guardian signs, but getting frustrared by the changed mechanics (I don't like that assists involve putting a pokemon on the screen and having the potential to miss, rather than just influencing the capture, and recharges take forever, and I don't like not being able to choose when my partner helps).

if you want some good english voice actors and actresses that can pull off youthful androgyny in their voices, i want to introduce you to two voice actors and two voice actresses! casey mongillo is the first: you might know them as shinji ikari in the netflix nge dub (which arguably next to ryan bartley as rei is a good casting choice) and floofty fizzlebean in bugsnax. they are a nonbinary voice actor who is known for voicing both young boys and women, and they have a very similar vocal range to actresses such as romi park or another suggestion i'd like to make, akiko kimura. the second actor i can tell you about is cis male actress zeno robinson, who, despite playing grown men and young boys in equal frequency, has the vocal range to pull off an androgynous young boy's voice (think goh from pokemon journeys or remy from big city greens). the next voice actress i'd like to introduce to you is meli grant, known for voicing transgender character tressa "catalyst" smith in apex legends, otokoyaku actress and school idol reo shiina in kageki shoujo!! (an anime which i recommend HIGHLY) and indian peafowl in kemono friends (she tends to play bit parts, unfortunately, though her vocal range is amazing and her voice is beautiful). she has a very androgynous voice, is able to pull off androgynous female and androgynous male and young boy roles off very well. last actress i would introduce you to easily play judas is kayleigh mckee. since you're a fighting game fan, you may know her as testament in guilty gear, but she is more prominently known as the voice of yuta okkosu in jujutsu kaisen. she is also going to be one of the first trans woman voice actresses in anime to voice a trans woman in an anime: she is scheduled to voice kiku from one piece! anyway, those were my suggestions
