I like its design, but when I was little I always hated the fiery bulblax. I was just such a wimp and anything I couldn't cheese with purple pikmin was enormously stressful.

the whiptongue bulborb is the best bulborb because it's a nice example of anteaterization. like forget carcinization, if there's one body plan that keeps evolving again and again and again from completely unrelated and wildly different clades, it's the anteater body plan. long sticky tongue, small mouth and narrow snout is a winning formula

Having a narrow snout with small teeth and a long sticky tongue is a very useful set up if you’re a myrmecophage!

Myrmecophagy predominantly appears in vertebrates several magnitudes larger than ants and termites. Both these eusocial insects are small, dangerous, and don’t exactly have a very high amount of good meat in proportion to the noxious compounds they produce, so it’s rare for similar sized animals to eat them. But if you’re a lot bigger than an ant and have the right set up, you can just get around the issue by eating a ton of them!

Of course, myrmecophagy also requires a method of breaking into nests, which whiptonges don’t exactly have, but probably don’t need since pikmin tend to stay out in the open.

The whiptongue is a solid bulborb but I’m personally more partial to these guys

Olimar's Notes: "After I encountered this beast in a cave with Louie and Arcadia, something strange happened... At first, when we entered the cave, it started out as a Rest Level. It had 5 Candypop Buds, one of each color except for Purple. As soon as we got to the next sublevel though, Arcadia said that they felt off. We were going to let them have a moment to take a break, since before we entered the cave, we did collect some other treasures, but they refused, saying that they would be ok, so we continued on. As we continued on, many species of the Grub-dog family had appeared throughout the sublevels and Arcadia seemed to become more tired looking as we continued. Unfortunately, as soon as we got to the second to last sublevel, it showed that they were truly not ok, as it caused them to run away from us, thinking that we were some kind of beasts or something of their past that were haunting them. It seems that this beast has the ability to make people of Arcadia's species fall into an illusion that can cause insanity in them. After they fall into the state of insanity, it takes over the victim's mind and body, making it the Bulblax's host. One theory of why this creature tries to control a host is because it only wants to find a friend. Another theory contradicts this theory, saying that it feeds off of the host's energy so that it can survive, which would probably explain why Arcadia couldn't walk for the rest of the day after the beast was defeated. One can only wonder what horrors the human was put through after dealing with this beast."

Louie's Notes: "Chop the head of the beast off of the body, slice the beast into four halves, then grill on a fire or stove top to make the most deliciously hypnotizing steaks for the family. Remove the eyes, place them on toothpicks, and serve."

Arcadia's/Spruce's Notes: "Never again do I want to see this thing. When we entered the cave, I thought it would be a normal, everyday cave like the others, but I was wrong. This 'thing' made the cave itself to mimic a human's mindset before insanity. The Rest Level at the beginning of the cave, the Candypop Buds being in 5 different colors except for Purple, blanking out in the cave at moments, the voices of vengeful people, the illusions. There was even a moment where I couldn't even control what I could do. I couldn't think, I couldn't speak on my own, I couldn't move on my own. This feeling, it was terrifying... If you want any idea on what could be created from this beast, I'd say the eyes could be crafted into an object that can be used for good, or that the head could be used to make a bowl of some kind, but anything else? I'm too afraid to even look to see if it can make anything else useful..."

Also, a fun fact about this beast's location, the cave where this beast is found is named The Cave of Illusion. It's basically designed after the stages of the human brain before insanity. It was fun to come up with this thing's concept. It's basically like the normal Empress Bulblax, but it controls a host and can give the illusion that instead of just Bulborb Larvae, there are other species of the Grub-dog family instead. Basically, it disguises it's babies as Bulborbs of different species to protect them. It is called an Illusionist Bulblax for a reason! :D

Anyways, up next, I'm drawing the new species of Snagret I made for the human since I am especially proud of its design. I made it look cute! ☆^u^☆)
