“Look out!” the man overhead jeered, gripping tightly around your upper arm as he haphazardly tossed you off the open hatch. You yelped out of instinct, before landing hard in the arms of your lord.
Darth Vader holds you much like a bride, and the chaos around you falls away. The gaze of his visor is fixed on the ship you were just thrown from, and he is eerily silent. In one dark second, you fear you’ve disappointed him, and the current compromising position becomes most dire.
“Put me down!” you demand, thrashing in his grip out of humiliation. Complying, he drops your legs, and your feet are met with the nimble peak of the spire you both now balance on. Your toes overstep the edge, and once your eyes meet the ground far below, you panic. The adrenaline of the setting controls you, and you cling onto the Sith Lord. “Pick me back up- pick me back up!” Whatever is within reach: his cape, his robes, his shoulders are all fair game to use to your advantage, climbing up him without a second thought.
His concentration and his freedom to force the shuttle to hold— to tear it back to him in order to escape this and teach those who wronged him a lesson— is broken, now focused on you and your frightened idiocy. The arm around your middle remains, but he grabs hold of your wrist as he stumbles back because of how you throw yourself at him. You scream in the face of death, and he counter-balances with your weight. As the two of you straighten, sharing the limited space chest to chest, an intense red cakes your cheeks from the proximity as well as your display of cowardice. He towers over you, and you feel the weight of his arms around you.
If it were anyone else, he’d care not if they plunged to meet the Maker, but it was you. As infuriating as it is.
“I’m—“ you begin your apology, but you are swiftly interrupted.
“Calm yourself.” His rumbling command rolls through like a thunder, and you obey him so as to not worsen your unlucky circumstances. “I have no time for your groveling. There are more pressing matters at hand.”
You gulp, and you nod.
His arm moves to grasp your other wrist, raising them above your head, and twisting you delicately— much like a dainty doll— so your back is to him, his indicators jabbing into your skin. You try to ignore how much you like him taking control of a situation, so you don’t have to. Habitually, your fingers cup over his gloves, and tighten when he lifts you. Your feet part from the ground, and point, swaying in his hold as you gather the words.
“Wait, wait, what are you doing?”
“I’m going to drop you.” he replies as he steps forward, the vision of life-defying height causing a lightning bolt of terror to course through your veins.
“What?” you cry out, your legs kicking out, begging to be reinstated to the spire as narrow as it is. “No, no, my lord, please, I’ve done nothing—“
“Quiet! I am not condemning you to execution! I am going to catch you.” The anger in his voice, reminiscent of frustration rather than wrath, makes you tremble like a newborn fawn anyway.
“What? No!”
“It is the only way.”
“It is not!”
Still he keeps you as you are, and you fight off tears.
“You chose to ruin our chances when I could’ve caught the prosecutor's stolen shuttle! Accept your fate or die.”
“Stop!”
His grip loosens, and you slip through, the thrill of falling shooting your stomach into your chest. Wind rips through your hair so loud you cannot hear your own scream. A cushion of air, invisible to the eye, envelopes you, slowing your descent. It’s nothing, there is no matter nor pressure; you float yet you are not feather-light. Your confusion interjects your cry, looking up to see Vader’s steady and shaped hand. He caught you, like he said he would.
His range is incredible, and you wouldn’t have believed it if you didn’t witness it. The spire he remained at the top of, was kilometers tall. Yet you sense no struggle as the force around you dissipates, and you land curtly onto the sand. You check on the Sith, your predicament now resolved means you adopt a new one. How is he going to get down?
Your question is answered as quickly as it was asked.
The dark red of his sith blade ignites, filling into its form. You watch as he steps off the spire, and sinks his saber into its side. He slides down at a record pace, but he outstretches his hand, combining the efforts of the minimal friction of his weapon with the padding of the force.
Heavy, he dents the ground when he makes contact, and like the lovesick fool you are, you’re entranced the entire time. The spire crumbles behind him, influenced by his opposing force pressure, the dust and debris clouds everywhere but him and where he steps.
You’re not even spared a side glance as he passes you.
“Come.” he recalls. Loyal, like a dog, you do as you’re told.

I think what I'm starting to realize is that Darth Vader is redeemable.
Anakin Skywalker is not.
Darth Vader, the guy we're introduced to in the Original Trilogy, who we don't really know anything about, who Obi-Wan remembers fondly even as we know he's gone bad, who ISN'T associated with the end of the Jedi. Erase all the context of what we now know about Anakin Skywalker, his relationships with the Jedi, his actions on Tatooine, the way he treats Padme, his relationships with the clones, his relationship with Ahsoka, all of that. Erase it all.
All we have is Darth Vader. A guy whose worst acts are honestly relatively small and who is almost always up against a bigger villain. It's Tarkin who technically orders the destruction of Alderaan. And Tarkin dies at the end. By ESB, we start seeing the Empire and Vader's relationship to Luke is revealed, someone we love, someone we want the best for. So when you get to ROTJ and Luke says he might still have good in him, minutes before we meet the Emperor himself in person, it's not that hard to believe him. It's not that hard to believe that one last act of kindness is all it takes to absolve him.
Put everything else aside, JUST looking at the Original Trilogy, Vader's.... not THAT bad. His redemption works fine.
But Anakin Skywalker? Anakin Skywalker's been killing babies since he was 19 years old and never stopped. Anakin Skywalker betrayed 10,000 people who considered him family overnight. Anakin Skywalker betrayed several million good men into being brainwashed and turned into betrayers themselves. Anakin Skywalker betrayed the Republic he served, and the wife he did it all for.
You don't come back from that. You just don't.
Darth Vader without Anakin Skywalker's story was redeemable.
NOTHING Darth Vader ever does in the original trilogy is at the level of what we see Anakin Skywalker do over the course of the prequel trilogy and The Clone Wars show. Nothing. Nothing comes close except Alderaan and that's nowhere near as personal or direct as what he does to the Jedi and the Clones. It's also not a betrayal of any kind.
Anakin Skywalker's not redeemable. What he did can't be undone or fixed. There's no amends he can make because the people he'd need to make amends TO are all dead. Because of him. There's nothing left to BE redeemed.
And most of us CAN'T divorce Darth Vader from Anakin Skywalker anymore, you're not really meant to. They usually WANT you to remember Anakin Skywalker when they bring in Darth Vader to stories these days. Which makes that last moment of ROTJ just feel... so unearned now. So frustrating. Because the more we get to see, the more we're forced to remember everything Anakin Skywalker's done over the course of his life, the less his redemption works. Because the more we see, the more atrocities are revealed. More massacres, more murders, more planets and people eradicated from the galaxy forever. At what point does it become impossible to truly be redeemed for everything you've done? At what point is it impossible to ACTUALLY go back?
And it doesn't matter which version of the force ghost you get, either. If it's the older version, then Anakin gets to present himself as if he'd never done those things. If it's the younger version, then Anakin gets to present himself ONLY before he did some of his worst acts (although he's still a baby killer, let's not forget, so that's... suspect). Either way, the things he's done get to be forgotten. They no longer matter. Those people he killed, the people he betrayed, who will never be the same as they were. The galaxy he helped bring to its knees over and over again, that will take decades AT LEAST to recover from what he did to it, can't forget. But he gets to. He gets to forget.
And I don't find that very satisfying anymore.

PT - Werewolf Anakin
Summary: Anakin’s birth is the result of Darth Plagueis' experiments over Life and Death. Except the experiment aim was not to make a “Chosen One”, but rather to create loyal bestial servants.
Era: Prequel Trilogy
Main tropes: Young Vader, Maul redemption, Shapeshifter
To be true, this is just an excuse to have some Feral!Anakin xd.
---
Snippet:
Vader galloped.
He could see from the corner of his eye Maul running in the opposite direction. Good.
The Jedi were not their Sith Master, but from what Vader had seen they weren’t much better. Maul and him may have been birthed to be slaves, but they would never have to bear chains again.
The Jedi on his tail reminded him he wasn't quite as safe as his bond-brother.
Vader accelerated his pace, to the point where his four paws barely touched the ground before propulsing him ahead. The wind brushed his fur as it sang in his ears. A song full of promises. A song of freedom.
Someone’s foreign Force presence surrounded him. Suddenly Vader’s paw didn’t touch the ground anymore, as he found himself suspended above man level in the air. A yelp escaped him at the abrupt stop. The Jedi's smell was everywhere, surrounding the weird levitation bubble he was trapped in. Instinctively, Vader’s tail curled between his legs. He growled at the approaching man.
“Hello there,” the man unflappably greeted.
---
Plot Description:
Anakin’s birth is the result of Darth Plagueis' experiments over Life and Death. Except the experiment aim was not to make a “Chosen One”, but rather to create loyal bestial servants. Long lived and powerful werewolves, mixing the Tuk'ata natural Force Sensitivity with various species sentience, humans giving the best compatibility results.
The werewolves were a prototype of sort of the republic clones. The project was abandoned after the instability and death of most subjects, the Kamino chosen instead of Hutts as main provider and humans chosen as species for clones. By then Shmi already birthed Anakin, and as such the Siths decided to raise him alongside Maul. He would be ´the dog of the Sith’ for Master and Apprentice to obey.
As a werewolf, Anakin ages slowly. His species is much more long lived than humans. He was born a few years earlier than canon, his growth slow to come. He does his best to protect Maul, and the feeling is reciproque. They grow as siblings under the same iron fist, and form a strong bond together.
At some point before or during the clone war, Anakin and Maul escape. Anakin gets caught by Jedi under his wolf form, who brings him home for study, giving enough of a distraction for Mail to get away. The Jedi soon realize that this strange feral being trusts no one; much less the Force Sensitive people. For all the first duration of Anakin’s stay in the Jedi Temple, he is trapped in a room. The Temple’s Wild Beast, they call him. He earned that title in blood, attacking anyone daring in fang range. Not a single time do they manage to coax him into his human form or to communicate, for all they can sense his sentience behind sturdy mental walls.
Anakin doesn’t mind the treatment he gets in his Tuk’ata shape. Everything is simpler as a beast. Missing Maul is easier too, although the Force bond between them keep them connected. Even punishments are easier to bear in that form, as he learnt under the Sith care. Not that Palpatine let him revert back much ever since the man killed Plagueis and ascended to Master of the Sith.
As such, the Jedi Temple now possesses a yellow-eyed, feral, snarling Anakin, forced to stay here until they know what to do with him or find him a safe place. They also possess a Zabrak dark sider trying to infiltrate the place. Keeping Anakin becomes even more important when, through Maul’s interference, they discover the Sith would like their beast back - giving Anakin a huge value as bait and more importantly, as someone in danger to protect.
Who will he meet there? Who will be the first ones to earn his trust?
Perhaps it will be Master Windu, surprised to have been trying to play fetch with the beast while on guarding dury. The man denies it but Deepa stands witness. Kit Fisto agrees as he heard Plo Koon give advice to Mace on how to best please canines. Or perhaps it will be one of the younglings who sneak past the guards to enjoy the Tuk’ata fluffy fur, a certain Togruta among them being the most successful.
One day, they remove the chains and let him wander freely in the Thousand Fountains Room. They find their guest a few hours later under a pile of younglings, giggling as they climb all over the imposant Tuk’ata. For all Anakin snarls and growls, his instinct would never let him hurt pups; not without explicit order to.
Note:
For crack sake, don't you think it amazing for Mace Windu to have to guard him and end up having to play ´fetch’ with him? ~
Plo Koon is probably the one that put him up to it. I can totally imagine him trying to play fetch with this new wild beast they brought back to the temple. Also younglings adore this big fluffy wolf and will definitely try to climb on him as soon as he is out of chains and allowed to stay in the thousand fountains room.
Anakin did his best to protect Maul, and actually went along with him surprisingly well. So this is probably going towards Maul redemption? He might get caught after infiltrating the Jedi Temple. Not that winning his trust will be any easier than winning Anakin’s.
This inevitably ends with a big cuddle pile on the now Tuk’ata Of The Jedi Temple.
With Ahsoka who calls dibs to hug the fluffy ball (even if it snarls a bit annoyed at her when she does so).

ok but the way that after his mask is broken it fluctuates between anakin and vader’s voices and the light from the lightsabers wavers between blue and red, and for a moment the blue is shining brighter, reflecting off anakin’s burned and scarred face, and then after he says, “you didn’t kill anakin skywalker. i did” and the voice becomes vader’s yet again and the red lightsaber glow completely engulfs him and just anakin is vader and vader is anakin and anakin is dead and vader is all that’s left but anakin will always be there and—

Double Agent Darth Vader is out of character, unrealistic, and boring as shit.
Double Agent Cody is perfection incarnate and the most interesting and reasonable course of action for that character moving forward.
