The Facade of Iron Circus Comics and Spike Trotman

I feel like this needs to get some more traction on social media…

#comicsbrokeme trended recently, with comics creators and artists telling horror stories of extreme low wages, cruel bosses, and the constant struggle to make ends meet.

One company, and one person came up in an alarming amount of posts… Iron Circus Comics and its founder, Spike Trotman.

What Trotman has been accused of is not just run of the mill mismanagement or low wages, though they are infamous about underpaying and missing payment dates. They will actively and precisely bully, berate, and mentally destroy creators working under them. Trotman uses their clout as an internet famous comics publisher to keep people in line, and a recurring threat that if creators ever spoke out, Spike would sic their fans on them.

If you ever wondered why so many creators from Slipshine and Iron Circus up and vanished, THIS IS WHY. Several artists and creators have said that Spike Trotman sapped them of their desire to make comics.

This is downright sociopathic behavior to be sure. But then one starts digging into Spike Trotman’s past, and there’s a lot of skeletons in the closet. Squee Rat and Darth Versace were their previous handles on the internet. Squee Rat may sound familiar to people who have heard of the ‘Burned Furs’ movement.

Burned Furs was a puritanical, homophobic, transphobic offshoot of the furry fandom, founded by Spike Trotman, who also wrote the ‘Furry Manifesto’, which outlined their goals of getting rid of pornography, degeneracy, and expression of sexuality in the furry community. They distributed pamphlets at cons encouraging ‘degenerates’ to kill themselves.

A very inconvenient past to have when your brand is leftist and sex positive. Spike very much knows this, and they have tried to scrub all evidence of their past as Squee Rat from wikis and articles about Burned Furs.

Right now, Spike is hoping that this all dies down. In fact, they just had a big party for the success of the Lackadaisy cartoon pilot.

Especially ironic given that Spike once encouraged people to eat one meal a day to make ends meet in the comics industry.

What you can do is make sure this reaches the eyes and ears it needs. Find the dissenting voices against Spike and Iron Circus, and boost them as much as you can.

They shouldn’t be able to hide behind this facade and continue to hurt people.

Honestly I think that furry docs promoting a very vanilla kid friendly version of furry is fine because nonfurries only have room in their heads for one idea of furries. They do not care to think about us complexly. They need to know its a hobby and not inherently a kink bc while many involve their kinks its not the most accurate way to describe what the whole thing is about imo.

Within furry? The 'sanitization' needs to stop yeah. We are a kinky group and new normiefurs need to accept that or fuck off. Theres an entire demographic of twitterbrained furries that are poisoning the entire thing with their assumptions and shaming and mobbing. And their positively fucked up standards as to what a 'good furry' looks like and acts like. We've basically got a burnedfurs revival happening and it has already gone too far. I just dont think that people making documentaries or the furries that appear on the news are to blame. The moral panic and cringe culture wave is MUCH bigger than that and began long before it.

Fun Furry Facts! 

Spike Trotman (aka Squee Rat) was the founder of the “Burned Furs”, a conservative (and later deeply homohobic) Furry movement. Spike was also the author of the “Furry Manifesto”, a truly bizarre rant that outlines the beliefs and motivations of this group. 

Burned Furs claimed “Anthropomorphics fandom is being overrun by sexually dysfunctional, socially stunted and creatively bankrupt hacks and pervs.” Spike now hypocritically makes a living selling pornographic comicbooks and refuses to discuss her past as “Squee Rat”.

Spike Trotman also distributed material encouraging certain individuals to commit suicide.

“I remember when being a pervert was a bad thing. I don't know what the hell happened here.“

Spike Trotman was also known as “Darth Versace” on the “Something Awful” forums. She used to be a very vocal in that community, taking part in the mocking, bullying, and harassment of young child artists on DeviantArt.

Apparently Spike Trotman was also responsible for purposefully changing a hosted image on her website to a pornographic gif in order to knowingly spread that image on a children’s art forum (the now defunct BakaNeko forums).

Other names that Spike Trotman has gone by are “Charla Trotman” (her actual name) and “Charlie Trotman”.

How people describe Spike Trotman during the time of the “Burned Furs” movement:

“The woman self-destructed. She had all the interpersonal skills and charm of a tasmanian devil with herpes, and she snapped and frothed at everyone around her, friend and foe alike.“

Spike Trotman remains deeply embarassed of her Squee Rat roots, attempting to purge it from the internet. Spike Trotman was in her early 20′s at the time of the Burned Furs movement (an adult), and was in her 30′s at the time she was mocking DeviantArt users. She would have been in her mid 20′s during the BakaNeko incident.

@burnedfurs for example: the top images are “bright” normal colored dark chao (specifically neutral, run, and power) in the HD ports of SA2

bottom is what normal shinies of these forms are SUPPOSED to look like, as seen in the gamecube remasters/ports.

what people speculate is that somehow whatever texture determines shininess glitched out and turned to a weird coloration instead, and sega never fixed it

a lot of ppl rly enjoy these bright chao, and honestly some of them can look neat. downside is that lighter colored shiny chao like the hero chao look terrible and all bloom colored to shit in white.

there are extended chao garden mods for SA2 steam, so i bet someone probably fixed it that way, if u rly want to fix it.

ohboy bad dragon wank. Heres the facts from a furry whos been a furry for a little over a decade as far as can I can source them-

Bad dragon has usual big business shady practice stuff, and the current owner Varka used to have a informational site(since shut down) called Herpy wherein stuff about real life reptile sexual habits and anatomy was detailed but was mostly for erotic reptile art. It was known to be used by zoophiles, but no source can be found on if the site encouraged pro-contact/offending or not. Varka is on record for wanting live casts of animal genitalia offered- which is controversial because animal abuse concerns, however. This never panned out.

At some point previous they had a model named 'the adolescent' and they have toys themed after children's show characters, which is just some purity wank there. The other stuff is a bit more reasonable of a complaint.

For allegations: A previous, since gone owner called Kamo has rape allegations. Most of the current and former staff also has bestiality allegations- in particular someone who I dont remember the name of allegedly made a forum post (to which only easily faked screenshots exist for proof) where they admitted to sexually abusing a dolphin. Wether or not this actually happened if they said it or if it was said to begin with is up in the air because boy howdy screenshot faking Happens and calling someone a bestialist because you dont like them just sort of happens with furries. Its the low hanging fruit- like fandom people yelling pedo over anime girl hentai.

For whats probably the real reason people are so heated about BD SPECIFICALLY beyond normal 'big business complaints': Bad Dragon is unapolegetically the face of horny furry shit that puritans dont like. It is the icon figurehead idol of all the icky yiffy fur-freaks the clean uwu pure burnedfurs 2.0 dont like. It symbolizes all the things they hate and its a household, easily recognize name.

Varka also owns e621, which people hate both because of the lax views on getting artist permission before posting to its archive, the 'tag what you see' policy regarding trans characters getting misgendered with the sorting tags(which now has 'canonical' tags to refer to things that youd only know if you saw the character's refsheet and less offensive words for trans and intersex&altersex characters but is still not... the Most Sensitive way to go about trans characters), and because it allows all the icky kinks they dont like.

Do I believe the accusations? Against Kamo sure, but ive never met Varka, and afaik hes just kind of the usual mildly egotistical, mildly edgy horny cis dude, so its a 'until REAL evidence that cant be 4ch psyop-ed shows up hes just kinda Some Guy at normal levels of ceo dickery' situation.

@burnedfurs thats fair. My old friend used to do all kinds of passive aggressive shit if i posted shit she didnt like, and it was really stressful and made me scared to ever say -anything-, so i can definitely sympathize w anger over someone pulling that shit.

i dont know this person at all so i hold onto hope that a clear explanation might actually get through to them. They seem like they mean well and just are missing some points. I am the fuckin picture of optimism over here.

Pretty much you were the human form of blue diamond(?????) and were dating human yell/ow diam/ond. Who was the mom of a friend I had in HS. Who was half gem(this is so weird). And we were still friends and YD didn’t like this because they were training said friend to do something great or whatever and you tried to get me to stop being friends with him.
