This Australia Day I woke early to go for a hike and connect with country. I didn’t worry about my pace, or ‘getting the most’ out of a workout. I dawdled, and stopped, and took photos of things that interested me.
I touched the bark of trees and sifted red dirt through fingers, grateful and thankful to access all of this just by walking out my front door.
Pros of doing a nice bushwalk through a national park: trees! Birds! Nature! Interesting carnivorous plants!
Cons: utterly munting yourself physically for the rest of the weekend. Not noticing you’ve picked up a leech until you’ve soaked the hem of your dress and two separate socks with blood.
Worth it.
(Not pictured: #**+% leech that made off with my blood)
Managed to take another bushwalk today - that's two in one week! So, I'm sharing more photo-spam with you.
These two (and others) were actually busy picking at the bottle brushes near the recycling centre where I stopped off first.
Then it was off to the track by the Darling Mills Creek.
This little poser seemed to enjoy the fact I was photographing it.
The little guy ran up onto the rock while I was attempting to snap one of these guys . . .
Favourite shot of the day is this one
which is actually where the path passes under the motorway.
Met another poser (and friends) just before the path turned too mushy and I turned to head back.
Anyone remember that little bird I couldn't get a clear shot of the other day? Well, I spotted some more . . . and still couldn't get a clear shot! But I did snap enough details to be able to identify them as red browed finches.
And with the car still about a half hour's walk away I realised the rumbling I was hearing wasn't just traffic on the motorway, but the thunder of an approaching storm. But I couldn't hurry, because these two had commandeered the path.
I made it back to the car just as the first spots of rain starting hitting the windscreen, and made it home just before the heaviest downpour. And within minutes the storm had passed!
Stinking hot Autumn day here in the mountains, about 39C they are saying, just had to hit the creek to cool off for awhile 👌#skinnydipping #nudenotrude #wildswimming #wildswimmingaustralia #itsonlyabum #australia #hiking #bushwalking #bluemountains https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp1hFrDhgkv/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
