I go to bed thinking about writing and painting, and I get up thinking about writing and painting. In between, a lot of nonsense gets in the way. -- Michael Lipsey

"One reason we are so harried and hurried is that we make yesterday and tomorrow our business, when all that legitimately concerns us is today. If we really have too much to do, there are some items on the agenda which God did not put there. Let us submit the list to Him and ask Him to indicate which items we must delete. There is always time to do the will of God. If we are too busy to do that, we are too busy." - Elisabeth Elliot

Avoid over-burdening yourselves with work, whether paid or unpaid. While a life filled with the Lord’s work is a blessing to oneself and others, rushed busyness is a burden to the soul and destroys community.

Present
In my old office, directly across from my desk, was a sign that read “Vocatus atque non vocatus deus aderit.”
It’s Latin for “Bidden or unbidden God is present.”
I put it there in hope that whenever I looked up from what I was doing, I would be reminded of the big picture. And that I didn’t have to go it alone.
Sometimes it even worked. But sometimes it didn’t.
Because it’s easy to get tunnel vision. To let your day become little more than all the things that constantly clamor for your attention. To get lost in all of the “should’s” and “have-to’s” that create the stress and busyness of daily life.
To lose sight of the big picture.
Today is the feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, the archangels. The Church makes a big deal about them because the archangels (and all the angels) are agents of God’s grace and power in our lives.
Because that’s the thing about God – God is always present.
Not just when we’re going to Church, praying, and trying to do our best to live in God’s will. But also when we’re not. When we’re drifting, lost in the busyness of daily life. And even when we think we’ve done too much and strayed too far from God. That changes nothing.
Bidden or unbidden God is present.
The point of the archangels (and all the angels) is that God isn’t present as a spectator.
Because you and I were never meant to do this alone. And we don’t have to.
God will never abandon us. God is present in our lives in grace and in power, waiting only to be asked to help His creation.
Waiting only to be asked – to help you.
So what are you waiting for?

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” —Matthew 6:33
“To seek God does not narrow one's life, rather it brings it to the level of highest possible fulfillment.” —A.W. Tozer
“He Deserves The Highest Place!” By “Lover of Your Soul - Jesus!”
“Our lives have become a rush, a life of busyness, where we have a huge list of things to accomplish, to do one after the other. We seem to get no rest and toil relentlessly for our lives on this earth to be secure and sure. Right from the moment we wake up until the moment we hit the bed, we move on from one thing to the another, trying to check off the list of pending tasks we have been committed to. Our minds are so very pre-occupied with all our commitments and responsibilities that at the end of the day, we are worn out, tired, and sometimes even frustrated that things didn’t go according to our plan.
In all this busyness of life, we don’t have time for ourselves and also tend to forget our relationships with those around us, and even our relationship with God tends to take a back seat. It is high time we change our schedules, and set our priorities right. Though your commitments and responsibilities in this world are essential, though you need to work out all of them seriously, all of them will pass away and at the end of your life, only your relationship with God and those around you will last. Only your relationship with your Savior on this earth will decide and determine your life after death.
The Lord God who created you, loves you and cares for you, He is the only One who deserves the highest place, the highest honor in your life. Not a single soul on earth, nor any of your commitments and responsibilities can or should take the place of the Lord God in your life. He deserves all the glory, honor, praise and offering you can ever give. Every single breath of yours, every single step you take, should be taken in order to give Him glory. Setting Him above all things you care about, giving Him the highest place in your life more than anyone you love, seeking His face and presence in your life more than anything else, will cause Him to be pleased with you and you will be blessed spiritually and physically!”

Tumblr media
No one asked but the other round of your confession dumps might be uploaded late. My university opened a student-led organization and they have applications for artists— which I will be applying for. I need to submit five artworks, I already chose three from my previous works and I want to create something new for the remaining two. Also, for the request, it will also be a liddo late. Although, I am already writing the sole req on my inbox. :)

The answer
Yesterday was a mess.
One thing after another after another. It was non-stop. Barely time for lunch. Didn’t get through half of it.
Which means that today? It’s going to be more of the same.
We all have days like that. Sometimes weeks. When it feels like it’s never going to let up.
How do we handle that?
How do we recharge our batteries? How do we keep ourselves in a good place mentally, so that we can respond well to everything that we’re dealing with?
How do we make sure that in the middle of that kind of busyness we don’t lose sight of God and God’s will for our lives?
How do we make sure that we don’t fall into the trap of trying handle things on our own?
The answer is in today’s Gospel.
Wait, what?
Today’s Gospel is Jesus healing people and driving out demons all day, until “after sunset.” Followed by another full day of Jesus healing people and driving out demons, but with preaching added on top.
That looks more like Jesus’ personal recipe for burnout.
It’s easy to miss. But it’s there. Tucked right between those two very busy days.
“Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed.”
How is that the answer? Adding one more thing to an already over-booked schedule?
Actually, it is the answer. If you’re going to do all of the things, then every part of you needs to be well-cared for. Or you won’t be able to do all the things.
And it starts with prayer, the most basic, most fundamental form of self-care. Because, as St. John Chrysostom explains, “Prayer is the place of refuge for every worry, a foundation for cheerfulness, a source of constant happiness, a protection against sadness.”
Imagine doing all of the things with your worries safely in the hands of God. Not what-if-ing about it but trusting in God’s guidance and timing.
Imagine doing all of the things cheerfully. Accepting them, handling them, and then letting them go. Because you know that they can never get between you and God – unless you let them.
Imagine doing all of the things happily. Trusting God. Knowing that God will work them for your good, even if you can’t see how right now.
That is what prayer gets you.
That is what’s behind the example that Jesus is giving us.
And that’s why St. Francis de Sales tells us, “Every one of us needs a half hour of prayer a day, except when we are busy – then we need an hour.”

Quick Thought – Wednesday, April 24, 2024: The One Thing That Is Necessary
Read Luke 10:38-42 “…but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 Reflect Sister Suzy was probably the most active member of St. Charley’s Church. She was practically involved in everything the church did. On Mondays, she read to students in the church school. On Tuesdays, she volunteered as a receptionist in the front office.…
