♡♡bf!txt and things you can do for them♡♡
Tumblr media
synopsis: small or big things/gestures to show your love for them or things they would love in their partner and their reaction based on my observations and astrology /seperate
genre: pure fluff and nothing else i swear
wanings: delulu headcanons, might come across cringe to some, is fluff a warning? imo it is! fight me about it if you want, kissing?
Tumblr media
i love my tubatu boys so much, i want to cry~
Tumblr media
let him what he needs to do show love
i think yeonjun would get very upset if you were to say stuff like how overwhelmed you are with his gifts since you can't do the same for him or judge him for wanting to show pda
so he is most likely to settle for bare minimum in this case. he has high standarts in everything else but this one in particular restricts him and his love for you. so just let him love you however he wants~
listen to his advices
he no means to control you but let's just say you made changes in your style just because yeonjun suggested you to do that particular thing, he would be so happy. this may include lots of variations of advice but like i said not in a controlling way.
wear matching clothes/accessories with him
not cringe ones like "his/hers" or "look at my bf/gf" but like waering the same necklace he bought for you or same themed clothes that do not necessarily scream couple clothes.
tumbling down his walls
i don't think yeonjun likes showing weakness. i have similar placements with him, i would know. so when you be the person he can truly feel comfortable around to show his real self, he is considering you love of his life.
encourage him in what he does
although this may apply to everything he is passionate about, his job in particular is where he needs you to be hyping him up. call him "4th gen it boy" or compliment his lyricism and him being all rounder. yeah almost everyone does that but he also needs you to do that, too.
Tumblr media
let him take care of you
soobin has this great parental energy that traditionally falls under father figure roles. what i mean is for example if you have a problem you are facing, just let him be the one who helps you solve it. i am not saying he wants to be your savior but he cares so much and this is his way of showing.
cook/bake together
soobin likes to cook/bake even though he is not the best at it. he tries. but he loves to cook/bake with you. especially if you are excellent cook. he feels like this is your love project together and also a fun activity on top of it. what's not the like?
be his equal
i don't think soobin would enjoy an obvious power imbalance in a relationship. of course there is some places he is better or worse than you but they balance each other out. and i mean this also in a way that no one in the relationship should hold the power, it would make him so uncomfortable.
get along with his friens
he is the introvert that has lots of friends for an unexplained and mysterious reason but he loves them and you so you getting along with them genuinely makes him happy. just like the one of the biggest hit there is: spice girls - wannabe. lyrics are just so soobin.
enjoy the things he enjoys
you get a joke he made and laugh at it, he is happy. you like the date idea he suggested and excited to do it, he is happy. you watch him play video games with his friends, he is happy.
basically he is happy to be understood and seen. many more examples can be given
Tumblr media
not be boring
always stimulate his brain. play hard to get. (not too much tho) be cool in general. get his jokes. at least try to enjoy things he loves.
may seem a lot but he doesn't like the idea of being bored in general. (this i can relate) but it heavily influences his love life the most.
listen to his worries
beomgyu is also a human being. he needs nurtiring just like everyone else. no matter how small the problem is, show that you care. and also beomgyu deserves it. most people deserve this but beomgyu deserves it more than the rest.
be his star crossed lover
he wants to believe that it is more than his and your choice. he wants to believe that some powerful being or universe wants you to be together. call it soulmates, call it twinflame. doesn't matter. just be his true love.
validate him
he doesn't nor necessarily seek for validation from others,he does but not in the unhealthy way, but his s/o is a different story. so when you are proud of him, he is proud of himself. don't make him feel untalented or stupid or useless or someone who is trying or some- one who is not really nice.
open up to him
he feels uneasy with someone who doesn't share. it feels like you don't trust him. he talks about his problems, right? so why don't you. like i genuinely think he wants you to trauma dump. he wants to learn why you are the way you are.
Tumblr media
be different
he doesn't want to commit to someone who is just like everyone else you can find on the street. maybe it is your style, maybe it is your personality, maybe it is your taste, maybe it is your dislike of pop culture... but don't be a poser and don't make this all of your personality.
take care of him when he is sick
idk why but i think tyun would show his vulnerability to his s/o but would also make sure that he has borders. but it changes when he is sick. he is a baby, okay? so take care of him!!!!!! (he lowkey likes the motherly/parental vibe you are giving, too)
let him take control
i am talking about your relationship. he likes independent people who take care of themselves but he would prefer leading the relationship. not in the toxic way i swear, he asks for your opinion of course.
kiss him a lot
some of you guys may know my taehyun the expert french kisser theory... and if you don't, here it is again. he is a expert french kisser. loves kissing so much. doesn't need to be mouth to mouth action. just kiss him or let him kiss you.
work out with him
i know some people make working out tyun's whole personality but i mean this in a way that be a part of his routine and also take care of yourself. two birds one stone, you know. he likes this activity so even you watching him do it is enough sometimes.
Tumblr media
get along with his members and family
we all know hyuka doesn't let anyone to be in his life. he has his members and family. so if you are blessed enough to be in it, you should get along with them. he also values family so much. he seems to have very healthy relationships with his family and members so it is unavoidable that he wants his s/o to be part of it.
be a geek with him
i don't think hyuka is geek btw but he would love it when you play mario kart with him or watch batman the animated series with him. you know traditionally geeky stuff. also make commentary and jokes while engaging with the media. and react his commentary and jokes, too.
be nostalgic with him
this is why i think he would want someone his age or close to his age or older than him since they can experience his childhood memerioes. kinda related to the one above but if you enjoy the things he enjoyed when he was younger, that would make him happy.
cook for him
he would really appreciate this one. may want to help but the thoughtfulness of you makes his heart flutter. definitely loves your cooking even if you are not the best. also he may want to try different foods so when you cook something he wanted to try, he is in love. the experience is definitely better than a fancy restaurant.
beautify yourself
i am not saying fit in the beauty standart. i am saying be fashionable and confident. like if he likes your aesthetic, you are beautiful to him. so try to have your own style and aesthetic. if you put an effort, he would also put an effort. he likes to adorn himself for his s/o and expects you to do same.
Tumblr media
a/n: i had this on my notes for so long. i am just glad that i finally got to share. i also tried to do moodboards. though i think i failed a little, it was fun to do it.

Tumblr media
you had known the morales boys your entire life, they were sweet and caring, though only one of them was vocal about it; the other made it hard for you to tell if he cared or just waited for you to shut up and leave him alone. either way, both loved you just as much as you loved them, maybe even a bit more than you believed.
the two were partners in crime, whatever one did, they were sure to have the other's back. be it escaping home for the night to hang out with you, graffitiing some public place behind their dad's back, sneaking into their uncle aaron's place to hang out--they always had each other to get themselves out of trouble.
the two shared everything, as well. in common sibling, and of course, twin, fashion, their shared clothes, a room, a family--and of course, lives together. they were like two peas in a pod, quite literally; they'd share each other's joys, pain, anger, sadness... it was like a twin sense they had, an instinct that everything the one had, the other had to have, too.
but some things just weren't supposed to be shared, and even for the two close brothers, they knew that sentiment very well. there were days when the twins would hide things from each other, some feelings of jealousy, anger, or even... kind of just insecurity about not having what the other has--it hurts them sometimes that they know they can't share everything they have with each other.
even you.
they knew you since they were kids, teased you a whole lot, but protected you when you needed them. they were your best friends of all, even if other friends left you or you left them, they were the ones who stuck by your side the most, who you knew best. they were the real ones, and they loved you a whole lot; you were practically part of their family, as per what rio and jeff told you.
but even if you three were friends your whole lives, the two felt... different about it. as if they thought 'friends' was an incorrect label for what they wanted to be with you. they were big dreamers, both of them were–but the biggest dream of all, for both of them, was to make you theirs. and they don't mean to share you, they mean you pick either of them, be it gonzalo or miles.
gonzalo is subtle about dropping hints on how much he likes you, he only gives you a small sliver, a small taste of how much he really feels about you. he keeps you company when you're lonely, and he doesn't chat up a storm as much as his twin; in fact, you barely notice he's there, but somehow, you feel comfortable and safe around, especially when you finally notice him there.
you feel bad that he sometimes goes unnoticed to you when he hangs around you, but he doesn't mind–he can want you attention, it's a big honor for him to have it all to himself, but he wants to earn your attention, not force it out of you.
unlike miles, gonzalo is more of a listener, like a really intent listener. miles is great to talk to, it's a two-way street, you talk and listen, he talks and listens; but gonzalo always seems to listen, just mainly listening to you is the best he can do.
he didn't really feel like he was the best person to go to for advice, he'd rather listen to your problems and help you solve it on your own. he's unsure of how to solve a lot of problems on his own, so helping other people solve theirs? yeah, he worries a whole lot about what he says, even if he doesn't show it.
he cares about you so much, and he knows how capable you are, he tends to worry less in general because he trusts you so much. but if you really needed him, oh goodness, boy does not hold back on helping you, defending you, even.
he appears scary to a lot of people, and he uses that to his advantage. one time, you needed him to pretend to be your boyfriend for a couple of days, just to shake off some creeps who can't take the hint that you weren't interested. it got to the point where, when miles wasn't around, gonzalo confronted those guys and, nonchalantly, threw their lunch in their faces.
he did not flinch at all, and, without hesitation, he took your hand and ran away with you out of the cafeteria. when you asked him where he was taking you, he just said he'd take you far away from them, and even if they'd follow you, he'd beat their asses for real. like hell he'd let anything happen to you, let anyone else think they can have you.
"i held back because i'm a nice guy, like you say. and because i'm nice, i won't beat the crap out of them, yet. but they gotta understand... they can never be with you the way we're together."
you thought you knew what gonzalo meant to say, you thought he meant it in the nicest, friendliest way possible--and he sort of did, but he meant that... no one else can have what he wants with you; this romance with you that he's pictured in his head over and over again, but is too afraid to tell you and own up to his feelings.
he's scared he'll scare you away and lose you.
unlike miles, who always seems to share a laugh with you. miles is sometimes mistaken as your boyfriend, what with your friends and your parents always seeing you two together. you both loved art and music, hung out together several times, even without gonzalo, to share the pieces you two made, listen to music together, maybe graffiti a few walls here and there without his dad knowing; it was bliss, being with miles.
miles made you feel like the world was your oyster, he never restricted you to anything because he knew what it was like to be restricted from a lot of things.
unlike gonzalo, miles talks to you while he listens. he offers you advice, tries to solve your problems for you. and though you really appreciate his help, you somehow feel like he makes it his duty to take up your burdens and make them his own. miles has always been that way, selfless and people-loving, but it hurt you a lot to know that miles can't even help himself first a lot of the time.
he keeps telling you he's okay, he's not at all in any trouble, and even if he looks okay, you knew for a fact those were lies. miles wasn't the best liar, he was kind of compulsively lying, but the only lies he ever told you and everyone else he knew and cared about were that he was okay.
you really wanted to help him, but miles is stubborn; he insists he doesn't need help, he's "okay! what about you?" that's all he ever retorts with. as much as you loved miles, there were just times when you couldn't help him, not because you weren't just sure where to start, but he really closed himself off a lot of the time.
but, he's trying. he expresses himself through his art, and slowly, all his feelings unravel when you ask him about it. he could go on for hours on end about how much he put his feelings, his thoughts, his ideals into his work; how much love he imbued in every single bit of it.
one time, he made you a portrait; he was doing it subconsciously, maybe he did out of longing for you because he made it when you and your family were on vacation. he didn't realize it was you until gonzalo pointed it out, and slowly, he came to draw you, illustrate you, more and more, with and without him realizing that, in all his works... you're always the constant.
gonzalo encouraged him to hand it to you when you got back, but he was scared; what if you found it weird? what if you found it creepy? what if it was actually disproportionate to how you really looked? would you even recognize it was you?
but despite his overwhelming thoughts, he decided that he'd find out the answers when you gave it to him. and thus, he presented it to you the day you came home.
he hesitated, of course, he was nervous--fumbling over his words and laughing awkwardly to himself as you looked at the portrait.
"i know, i know, it's... kinda weird, no? like, out of the blue, you just came to mind. and i guess my hands just had minds of their own, it seems. ha, ah, um, well... hah, do you like it? is it... any good, or...?"
when you told him, without a second thought, that you loved it; he was so relieved. his confidence came back and he showed you more of what he made. though he was a little embarrassed because he thought some parts were off, some parts didn't capture the right essence of you--all that mattered to him was that you were happy, you liked what he made you.
but he could never tell you why you came to mind those days, why you were all he could think of that he drew you over and over and over again. when he listened to his favorite songs, only you came up to mind.
he's scared that if he tells you, he loses you.
the twins talked about how they felt about you to each other, and they came to a joint conclusion: they both loved you. well, that was okay, sort of... not that they'd stop being brothers if you liked either one of them.
"you know i'm not gonna lose to you though, right? i like them a whole lot, and... i care about them."
"hah, what makes you think i don't feel that way about them, too? you watch your back, brother, they'll be mine in no time."
guess it's double the trouble for you, with both morales boys pursuing you and your love.
a/n: yes i was inspired by the scene in the movie, you got me <33

Thoughts on the new Megamind movie and series
Hello friends it is Bug review time!
I have watched the new movie and show all of one time each. I'm gonna talk about what I liked, what I disliked and some thoughts on the new characters and places where there are cracks in the story to drive a roadtrain worth of fanfic through
A disclaimer before we begin, I am thirty or forty years old and I am not the target audience for this shit. I love Megamind and am a hardcore Megarox shipper and also a world building focused fiend. The original definitely had a broader age bracket appeal but this is a show aimed at something like 6-12 year olds. Therefore for better or worse they had to simplify and audience surrogate the shit out of a lot of this.
Megamind vs the Doom Syndicate
To be honest I think you could skip this and go into the new series cold. It's not a movie its a movie length pilot. It was fine and it definitely smacked of Studio Interference going "But you have to explain and set everything up!" (spoilers you don't). The Doom Syndicate is fun if very kid friendly and I'm looking forward to seeing more of them. Behemoth and Knighty Knight are my pals and Pierre Pressure and Lady Doppler are my catty bitches.
The dialogue was good but the pacing felt lopsided. It really felt like they were retreading things that happened in the original movie, especially Minion's entire arc which he just went through two days ago? They did a good job with it but still!
Stuff I loved
FAKE EVIL DATING - I wish they'd shown them actually having to pretend to evil date. But of all the things I thought I was going to get it certainly wasn't that! (So much fanfic y'all. So Much Fanfic).
All of the Doom Syndicate calling out that Megamind and Roxanne obviously have A Thing and neither of them dealing with it well.
Roxanne just casually hanging out in the Lair and also taking charge. that's my girl! Also she's a complete morosexual and she and Megamind deserve each other.
Mayor Roxanne. I didn't adore HOW they did it, I think you could tease a whole season (or an exceptional fanfic) out of Roxanne finding herself not only bored of her job but dealing with the trauma of "Every time I look at the camera I see Hal beyond it and maybe I have some issues with that" and wanting to make changes.
Megamind's Bedroom! There was a sound like a million fanfic writers crying out in glee.
Minion and Roxanne being bros!
Minion out of his suit! It was creepy yet adorable!
The Mayor being useless. When you are used to having a hero who solves every problem, why wouldn't you have a useless Mayor? (I like that he comes back in the show)
The Doom Syndicate in general. They had a good range of designs and were at their most fun when bickering together.
Mr Cuddly Snuggles.
Stuff I didn't love
It felt like a retread of a lot of things that happened in the original movie. Which it has been 14 years so fair, but also if you're going to set something two days after the events of the movie, why make it a photocopy of the original?
Everything that Keiko was doing in the movie that could or would have been done by Roxanne if we were still going via the original characterisation (Roxanne broke into an entire villain's lair right after Megamind took over the city but Keiko's the one with the bat???).
Megamind just spent a whole movie going on about how he didn't share the spotlight and it caused a rift with his oldest friend (again) but sure, we couldn't do this without you small child we just met an hour ago. Its pure audience surrogate and YoU CAn'T bE mEaN to CHiLdrEn! but it makes the pacing feel even more lopsided that this can be so rushed when the whole Minion thing (and not even touching on the whole Bernard issue) got all the attenion and sure we'll just shove this in as well.
(This is the part where I admit parentification of characters is a MASSIVE squick for me and anytime I read about people wanting to make Megamind and Roxanne Keiko's new parents it makes me want to throw up in my mouth.)
Also Exposition voicing the "I was bad but you showed me I didn't have to be" is sooooo not for me. One thing the original movie was extremely clever about was showing how privilege and wealth played a part in Megamind and Metro Man's eventual roles. Megamind wasn't just a bad guy, he was raised in a prison, totally othered, looked different to everyone else on the planet and sent to the naughty corner even when he tried to do things right. While Metro Man was a white western male fantasy who landed in the lap of luxury and even his bunker is a monument to himself.
This was totally discarded for the new movie and I think its the poorer for it, simply because it was such a SMART and SUBTLE thing that is actually relevant.
Again, for kids. Not aimed at me. But I still think it does a disservice to kids not addressing that whole very important aspect.
End result: It's been 14 years since we got any content and I will take it for what it is, a movie length pilot of Baby's First Megamind for a superior tv show. An opportunity for a thousand gifsets and Roxanne running somebody over with a firetruck. If you're watching to get something out of it you probably will. I will be writing 12394393487 fanfics about Megamind and Roxanne actually having to prove they are dating to the Doom Syndicate.
Megamind Rules
Definitely better quality than the movie (I'm not going to talk about the animation etc because frankly the answer should always be pay your animators better and give them more time).
LOVED Megamind just breaking into Roxanne's office. Nice to seee some things never change. LOVED the Bodyswap episode (again, so much fanfic). LOVE LOVE LOVED Megamind and Roxanne laying on the kitchen floor together. We did not get enough scenes of them alone together.
LOVED Christina Christo, tired adults just trying to get their jobs done is my JAM and CREAM and SCONES and I love her (also why I loved Roxanne in the original). Loved her and Minion hanging out in episode 5. They need to be buddies more.
LOVED Roxanne wanting metal tickets for Megamind, everything about them having a shared history and interests filled my heart with glee.
LOVED the shot of Roxanne aiming the degun, Mucho sexy.
Loved Roxanne and Lady Doppler havign a history. How come we got more about tha than we did Megamind and Roxanne?
LOVED Megamind and Roxanne bonding over old kidnappings.
Ep 3 was heaps of fun. Doctor Doughnut was silly yet joyful. and I appreciate the Go Fish gang appreciation of his evil laugh.
The move from news reporting to streaming is actually a reasonable thing to happen, but I wish they'd delved into it better from Roxanne's side of what the shift away from traditional reporting and media meant for her. Social media and news have changed A LOT since the original movie. Again its one of those rich seams that fanfic exists to delve into.
LOVED the cockroach episode, but a missed opportunity for YOU RAISED A CHILD (TWO CHILDREN!) IN JAIL HOW ABOUT WE EXPLORE THAT A LITTLE MAYBE??
I guess we just...have a giant Minion in the lake now?
LOVED the Doom Syndicate just hanging out. Lady Doppler is me, sitting on a bench drinking tea.
The cliffhanger is a cliffhanger because they wanted a cliffhanger. But so help me if Roxanne isn't working from the inside in the next 8 episodes I will riot.
Characters
Megamind. Learning to be a person is right. Every time he got to be one on one with another character he became more himself. Every time he was one on one with Roxanne I was riveted.
Roxanne. My girl! They sidelined the shit out of her in this series! Sure she went off and got herself top job (Megamind and Minion calling her "Your majesty" was for me specifically) but so much of what made her a fun character in the movie (complete lack of fear in the face of villainy, her banter with Megamind, her willingness to just break into a villain's secret lair to find shit out got pushed onto Keiko and it left Roxanne with nothing to do. I don't know what they're planning for the future but I could see Christina taking over as Mayor eventually and Roxanne joining the crime fighting crew.
I HATED every time they called her Roxie, that was set up as an unwelcome nickname in the movie so I don't know why they backflipped on it here. HOWEVER I am prepared to accept it on the basis it made Megamind saying "Roxanne" in episode 8 that much more impactful (though they still could have used Miss Ritchi).
Keiko. I love Keiko as a character? But I hate her role in the show. She's the audience surrogate and the "Kid Relatable" for the kids to latch onto and they had her Exposition Voice in the DS movie what was actually much more cleverly crafted and characterised in the original movie. As a person she's cool and I like having her in the show I just wish it wasn't at the expense of Roxanne. They could have kept her as streaming socials girl and still left the investigation/danger to Roxanne and it would also have meant more time to explore what the Megarox relationship could be building towards/developing from.
I cringed all the way through Keiko dealing with the Doom Syndicate because it was telegraphed from a mile away such a tropey Kid Approved plot. I LOATHE making the tension about characters who have fucked up needing to admit they fucked up when its way more impactful to have them fess up immediately and put all the tension into how to solve the problem.
Machiavillain. He looks like a cunty Barbie villain and I love that for him. I assume we have to be getting the other 8 episodes at SOME point because otherwise that's a lot of Adam Lambert for not a lot of payoff.
Minion/Chum. ALSO learning to be a person and I have always had a soft spot for him. Showing that he has about as much sense as Megamind is a delight.
Christina Christo. I love her and I love that she and Megamind are constantly arguing for Roxanne's affection. Probably my favourite new addition.
End result: It's very Studio Approved For Kids! Enjoyed the show a lot more than the movie length pilot. Needs more Roxanne. Needs 10000 more game nights with Minion's electroshock orgasm ball.
Megamind was and is a PARODY of the superhero genre, break more rules! Don't just plod through the studio approved plot points! Having the original movie be all adults was actually really refreshing because you could get a lot more out of subtle shit without having to spell it out. One of my biggest peeves and the cause of a lot of fanfic is why is shoving Megamind into the hero role any better than shoving him into the villain role? Let him go be a mad inventor without having to save the city! Let him be a crime fighting villain!
And finally, so help me if Roxanne isn't front and centre beside Megamind where she belongs in the next season I will start biting.
FUTURE FANFIC I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO READING/WRITING
All of the evil fake dating. Make them have to fooool the Doom Syndicate. Make Roxanne need to stay over. make it only one bed. Make kisses with Megamind where they haven't even talked about the Bernard thing yet and they are both so messed up about it. (Fun fact! I wrote a fic with this premise way back before the show was even announced.
We're still fooling the Doom Syndicate and oh no they want to help plan the wedding.
We're still fooling the Doom Syndicate and oh no now we're actually getting married.
Roxanne actually dealing with her issues after the movie and why and how she goes into campaigning for Mayor.
Megamind and Roxanne breaking in the mayoral office (obviously).
Filthy sexy bodyswap shenanigans
How did Roxanne figure out Megamind's ticklish spots?
10 thousand character driven Roxanne hanging in the Lair moments
10 thousand Megamind hanging on the couch in Roxanne's office moments
A highly charged Roxanne and Lady Doppler bitter evil exes interaction (just for you @ejga-ostja)
Doom Syndicate shared public workspace office. Or just some random person going in to use the printer and constantly getting dragged into lackeying for them.
Metro City Meme War
An actual introspection on the move away from traditional news media and how it impacts Roxanne's decision to seek a new career.
Christina and Roxanne eat doughnuts and bitch about municipal planning
A Christina POV watching Megamind and Roxanne flirt/have awkward moments/dance around the Thing via a crack in the office door
A Christina and some other person in city hall epsitolary fic told via emails reporting on Megarox developments to the person running the pool and slowly getting more invested in these morosexuals getting together.
Megamind coming to find Roxanne for game night and finding her sacked out on the couch because being Mayor is HARD and napping on the floor beside her because being a hero is hard too
An absolute fuckton of hypnosis kink
Roxanne using her mayoral powers to address the fact that Megamind and Minion were raised in a prison and NOT ON MY WATCH THERE WILL BE REPERCUSSIONS AND WE ARE GONNA ADDRESS SOME SHIT

I have a question that has been very divisive in my friend group of people who enjoy tdp.
What direction do you think they'll take Callum's magic in:
Do you think he'll master his Sky Arcanum, following the footsteps of Ibis, especially with his staff.
Or, connect to and become a master of all 6 primal sources, like Aaravos, but for good and love.
And more importantly, what idea do you enjoy more as a concept?
First off would just like to say your header is incredible.
As for your actual question: Callum is a character who chases magic out of a desire to learn and have agency. It becomes a fundamental part of who he is ("I will learn magic. It's who I am") which eventually manifests in him literally creating magic inside him (an arcanum). This transcending of limitations and what other people thought was possible means that Sky (representation of Freedom) was the perfect arcanum for him... to start. After all, seeing through illusions and crafting your own reality is very Moon arcanum-y, and there's been a decent amount of foreshadowing that he might connect to the Moon arcanum next for a while now ("After all, you really only know the appearance itself" "Now you're starting to sound like Lujanne" from 3x01). By forging a manual connection to one arcanum, it naturally begs the question of why wouldn't he at least try to connect to others in a similar manner?
All of this to say: I'd be surprised if Callum isn't connected to all 6 by the end of the show, for a few reasons.
While Callum being connected to primal magic is extraordinary on its own, and it's certainly an accomplishment... it ultimately means next to nothing if Other Humans don't also follow in his footsteps. A lack of access to magic is what created a lot of issues in the world of Xadia, and evening out that score / removing the need of dark magic is the ultimate way to Break the Cycle, as the wheel has always spun on magic and dark magic. If other humans don't connect, we're right back where we started. And humans being connected to Sky would be great, but there's so much more out there, and Callum will only really be able to be a teacher for all the arcanums if he knows and understands all the arcanums... hence, Archmage. (It'd also be very nicely full circle, given that Callum starts off as part of a lacklustre student-teacher pair in 1x01, and growing to become a wise and understanding teacher.)
Callum's parallels to and eventual rivalry Aaravos are mostly dependent upon Callum gaining more magical prowess. Right now they don't have a ton of parallels, but they are undeniably wrestling for narrative control. Aaravos is also underestimating as being just another dark mage like all the rest, "and destined to play right into my hands" but Callum will be, eventually, so much more than that. And thanks to Aaravos, we know a six primal archmage is possible. Seems only right that Callum would become his literal mirror.
One of the core weaknesses of Xadia is their insistence on isolation. Exile is their most common punishment and they literally split the continent in two. Elven society is generally very segregated according to their primal with only a handful of exceptions in ways we know don't exist in the Human Kingdoms (Duren coming to Katolis for aid; Lissa being from Del Bar and marrying a man from Katolis, etc). We see that the arch dragons are more likely to fight than convene with each other successfully and that since imprisoning Aaravos, they basically all went no contact. Xadian characters are also more likely to want to do things alone (Runaan, Rayla, Zubeia) than to pull on all possible resource areas, and the human villains who hate them (Viren) are also more likely to be isolationist. VS the princes ("We're in this together" in 1x05, "This is a chance to solve our problems together" in 4x03, Opeli and Corvus going to Duren for aid) and the Human Kingdoms. Kasef, however antagonist, believed in and depended on the collective. Karim starts to lose his shit in S4 precisely because New Aurea isn't going to be entirely Sunfire elf in nature; I don't think he would've responded to other elves any better than he did humans, honestly. Okay, great, so what? Well the one Xadian character we have who hardcore rejects that isolationist attitude in regards to a primal source with his very existence... is Aaravos. And that elves, humans, and dragons all presumably worked together to imprison him once before. It would make sense that the kid who is going to be the key (or one of the keys) to his defeat would likewise carry that same Rejection of Isolation, and instead embody literal Magical Solidarity by having access to all magics.
As for which I prefer, it depends. I think canon could do just about anything and make it work, and so long as we see other humans connect to arcanums (with or without Callum's help) I have no other Narrative Requirements, I think, in regards to places I think the story has to go in order to function narratively, in the end. He could master just sky magic, and as long as other humans are able to connect to arcanums, I think that'd be just fine.
If I'm writing fic, and I want Callum to be more limited for plot / angst reasons, I'll probs just write him as a sky mage. Magic is useful but can't (and should not, for story reasons) be able to fix everything, and is still only as useful as your brain can figure out how to use it, anyway. By and large, a magic system is only as good as its limitations, as that is what allows a story to have conflict, and places to show off creative thinking (with or without magic).
But generally (in post-war / late season speculative stuff; in looking at where canon is going, etc) I lean towards Archmage Callum and always have, and dumped all my headcanons about it accordingly into this fic (order of connection, how each of the arcanums feel different, dual wielding, what it brings between him and Aaravos, etc).
I would also love for Callum to get his own staff at one point, simply because it'd be nice to have a weapon 1) of his own and 2) wasn't yet another thing he inherited from a dead man (the cube from Harrow, the mirror from Viren) but if he uses the staff all throughout the show, that's perfectly fine too. Just means I get to write a fic where it gets destroyed for some reason, and then him (and maybe Ethari) get to help design and build his own for Reasons

GYEONGSEONG CREATURE PART 1 - THE CHARACTERS (PART 2 OF 2)
Part 1 is here
The Characters:
The cast is uniformly awesome. Park Seo-joon's character, Jang Tae-sang starts off as someone who is only concerned about saving his own hide but he infuses his character with so much heart that even in the initial episodes, you end up rooting for him. The show is, very much, his hero's journey, going from someone who only cared about his own survival to one who's willing to risk his own life to protect others.
Tumblr media
Han So-hee's character, Yoon Chae-ok was an absolute badass. She was more than capable of handling the shit that came her way. I loved that she was so confident of her abilities, she was excellent at her job. So-hee imbues her character with such deep emotion that you can tell that it's always on the simmer, her desperation warring with the bone-deep dread that her mother is dead. And then the final straw is the soul crushing horror they're confronted with when they infiltrate the hospital and find out what's been going on.
I also liked how the relationship between Tae-sang and Chae-ok developed. They start off at loggerheads with Tae-sang mocking the loss of her mother and Chae-ok seeing him as a profiteer, an opportunist. In a desperate fight for their survival against both the monster and the Japanese forces, they're forced to put aside their differences and work together and this is where they truly shine.
Their conflicting approach, where one is willing to die instead of surrendering and the other is willing to surrender to fight another day is what saves them. Chae-ok's drive to fight and keep fighting even in the face or insurmountable odds is what keeps them going when lesser people would have turned back. Tae-sang's drive to survive, to live is what keeps them alive when faced with near certain death. They fight for each other, taking the lead when the other falters.
Tumblr media
I love that for people who seem so fundamentally different, they work so well together, perfectly complementing each other. I also love that when Tae-sang tries to save Chae-ok by asking her to leave, she refuses, she makes it clear that she doesn't need a knight in shining armour but a partner who treats her as their equal.
The other cast members are equally good, especially Kim Hae-sook as Nawol-deak, Tae-sang's 2nd in command. She's his pillar, the only person he can trust to take over the reins in his absence and she more than rises to the occasion. Unlike the others, she's unflappable, capable of thinking on her feet, weighing alternatives and wheeling and dealing the way Tae-sang does. She, like Tae-sang doesn't trust anyone (except Tae-sang.) She knows, only too well, how little it takes to break people, having gone through it herself.
Did anyone else wonder if it was Nawol-deak who gave up information that led to Tae-sang's mother getting arrested? Nawol implies that faced with relentless pain, people are willing to do anything to make it stop. That entire conversation and the flashback that followed, made me think if it was Nawol who finally broke and gave up information about her comrades.
Tumblr media
Then there was Choi Young-joon playing Lieutenant General Gato, the most hateful character on the show, followed very closely by Hyun Bong-sik's Ichiro. The absolute lack of humanity they exhibit is far more monstrous than any other monster they could create. I'm pretty sure Gato is a psychopath. His quest to make a monster has nothing to do with patriotism. His military rank is a means to an end, it gives him the power and authority he needs to conduct his experiments with little to no oversight. He doesn't see other people as human beings, they are all, both the soldiers and locals alike, test subjects. The locals are used as lab-rats and monster bait while the soldiers serve to test just how much damage the monster can withstand, it's killing power and finally whether it can think and solve problems. The only thing Gato sees as worthwhile is the monster itself.
I would not be surprised if, in part 2, there was increased tension between Gato and Ichiro. Ichiro sees the monster as a mindless killing machine while to Gato, it's a like piece of art, it's an extension of his own genius and he would not take kindly to another scientist taking over. We saw it in Part 1 when Ichiro tried to train the monster, taking a page out of Ivan Pavlov's experiment, Gato's displeasure at Ichiro inserting himself into his work. This is not a man who shares or tolerates interference of any kind. I see conflict brewing between them that will perhaps be the source of their own downfall.
Tumblr media
The other person who was absolutely spellbinding was Kim Soo-hyun as Lady Yukiko Maeda. Her portrayal is just... so intimidating. She's the perfect blend of gentility and menace. She has an ice cold demeanor that unsettles you even as her beauty disarms you and draws you in. By the time the show ends, there is no doubt who has the actual power in the Ishikawa home. This is a woman who will slit your throat and calmly drink tea and watch as you slowly drown in your own blood. it's a chilling portrayal and I can't wait to see more of her in Part 2.
I am excited for Part 2 to see how they close season 1 since season 2 is already in production. We do know that Chae-ok, her father and the rest from The House of Golden Treasure will launch a rescue mission for Tae-sang. I don't think Chae-ok will be content to leave Tae-sang behind, not to mention her mother's monster form is still inside.
Add to that, Myeong-ja is now infected and she will wreak havoc once she transforms (assuming she survives,) she is outside and she's pregnant. With Chae-ok's mother, we can see just how much the Najin caused her to mutate. I have a feeling that Myeong-ja's baby will be a hybrid, even more dangerous than the monster inside the hospital. It's also safe to assume that almost all of the antagonists will survive.
Tumblr media
If you're hoping for a clean resolution in the season finale, you're in for disappointment. I have a feeling that the season will end with a broadening of the threat and our heroes will have to contend with not just those despicable scientists, Gato and Ichiro, they will also have the Japanese army after them after Kwon Joon-taek ratted them out.
I'll be happy as long as the season doesn't end with a cliffhanger. Season 2 is scheduled to stream in 2024, so on the plus side, at the very least, it's not a long wait. For now, I shall patiently wait for Part 2 and hope for the best...

Final modern Trek question then I’ll be good: What’re your honest thoughts and feelings on Strange New Worlds Season 1? Pros and cons, how it differs from Discovery and what it does either better or worse? The direction and writing, and if you feel it’s a step in the right path for current Trek shows? I watched it and I personally loved it, but I’m so curious to know what you think.
It is MOSTLY good. Its biggest strength is standalone episodes but compelling character arcs, which was the right call to make. We don't need a mysterious space hole or whatever to keep us invested week after week - just have a story with a beginning, middle, and end - do Star Trek stuff like meet new, weird, alien races and find interesting solutions to problems. The characters can change and advance and we can learn new things about them that influence how we next see them. The characters are just generally likeable and PROFESSIONAL. Professional is really the watchword I should keep bringing up - one of the reasons why I'm so uninterested in watching Lower Decks is because I continually see in gifs a bunch of BOZOS. Morons in command, morons doing the gruntwork. Oh, sure, I don't doubt they do their jobs and live and etc., etc., but nothing about them screams "These are people I would want to trust with exploring the galaxy." I see fanboys and people who shouldn't be anywhere near a phaser, much less the big chair. One of the episodes that many wouldn't put on their highest-ranking list of episodes for season 1 of Strange New Worlds is "Ghosts of Illyria." But it's entirely my jam - the stuff I want out of Star Trek. An interesting sci-fi mystery, character revelations, professionals doing their best to solve the problem, raising some interesting moral questions that will have to be revisited down the road, etc. For many it's just kind of "meh," but for me it made me want to watch more of it again after a long absence after watching the first two episodes. I want to see smart people being smart and solving problems. That's reductive, I know, but it's what gets me every time when watching. Now, as for the cons... well, ironically with that word the big problem is CONTINUITY. There are NUMEROUS continuity issues with this series, not the least of which being T'Pring - Spock's fiancé. There is no reason she should be such a significant part of the show. Everything that we saw in Amok Time seemed to suggest they were not close, had not seen each other in a long time, and the attitude T'Pring had in that is at odds with how she's portrayed as so loyal and dedicated to Spock in SNW. And given her reasons for breaking off her engagement in Amok Time, unless they REALLY openly contradict it with, I don't know, some kind of big betrayal or emotional fallout with Spock, I have a hard time believing that she'd break it off with him there. Don't get me wrong - the bodyswap episode was still good, but the problem again comes down to "I do not see a reasonable way for these two to no longer be together for Amok Time." The show focuses too much on old characters and not enough on new ones. I've already seen Spock's character development in TOS and the movies. I don't need MORE of it here, especially whenever they bring up Discovery. I don't need to see Pike's dilemma about his future - I know what's going to happen there. Uhura is a fine character... but I've seen her already. Give me more of everybody else - journeys for them, arcs for them, change for them. Killing Hemmer was dumb. Killing him while turning the Gorn into xenomorphs was dumber. Having the Gorn at all is dumb given we were pretty sure their first contact with the Federation was Arena in TOS. You could have invented a new baddie and gotten the same effect. Hell, it would have been better since one of the points of Arena is that we judged the Gorn as being aggressive, evil, and monstrous partially because of their appearance... but here comes SNW to be like "Oh, yeah, they are the absolute friggin' WORST. Unimaginably monstrous and horrible." Stop making all the uniform variants try to match with Discovery's stupid uniforms.

I'm sorry gay people in my phone but the new Doctor Who has thoroughly fucking confused me and was kind of a letdown
Thoughts under cut
I thought they were gonna genuinely do something with the story and aliens being extremely generic? Like. The Doctor regenerates back into their 10th form, coincidentally near Donna Noble, coincidentally while a plot's going on that feels like a self parody of Dr Who as a show. Tiny overly cutesy alien, gets found by and connects with teen who hides it from family, getting hunted down by big scary alien army, scenes like the plushie hiding thing that feel pulled straight out of a generic 80s scifi family film??
The Meep being evil was obviously gonna happen but I assumed there would be a second twist to it? Like, maybe they were both an elaborate set up bc some larger entity wanted 10 and Donna together. I thought bc it was the anniversary they were going the meta approach by making a threat that basically encapsulates the exact set up you imagine when you think about the show, mashing all the tropes together into one adventure made especially to encourage Donna and 10 back into the old days. Even the end with an oops silly mistake resulting in them being stuck together in the Tardis.
BUT THEN. THEY PLAYED IT COMPLETELY STRAIGHT?? AND THE EPISODE JUST ENDS?? NOT EVEN ANY CHARACTER ACKNOWLEDGING HOW WEIRD THIS WHOLE SITUATION WAS???? JUST COMPLETELY ACTING NORMAL. EVEN THE DOCTOR
I'm seriously hoping that this is explained later on as a setup for somethig larger, and that in later rewatches it'll be way more satisfying. But rn I'm confused as hell and disappointed, and if the show wasn't so important to my childhood I proly wouldn't wanna watch further. If it is all setup then... I don't want an exclusively setup episode. That's lame. At the very least if you ARE going that direction foreshadow it better
Some minor things I'm nitpicking also
- I know Doctor Who isn't meant to be that serious but come on the intro of David Tennant just greenscreened standing in space explaining the setup was so goofy it made me howl (and I don't think that was intentional)
- I love an important trans character, that's based as hell, but the trying to act relevant and appeal to Gen Z was kind of annoying. Not as in "Grrr my old show is woke 😡" I'm literally one of the wokes. As in "Haha women are so much cooler and smarter than men 😏 Doctor assuming pronouns 😳 Binary Nonbinary 😁😁" "🦡 Wow that's not very funny and a little irritating, it feels like a cistraight guy wrote this". It was a funny episode and some bits of this were funny but certainly not others
- For real tho I'm obsessed w "Binary Nonbinary" that's so fucking stupid
- For all the set up and stakes put on Donna remembering the Doctor, the way it resolved felt like a copout. Passing down and sharing the power was fine but literally just going "Nuh uh" and sending it away?? I really feel like that diminishes how importantly the time lord power was set up just for the sake of Donna being alive for more episodes. If they need her they could've at least let the two deal with it together for a while, before finding a better way to get rid of it down the line
- ^ It also made Donna's death have less impact for the problem to be solved in such an easy way. Her dying was emotional, was well executed, until it wasn't and she was fine and she was back having fun doctor times and woo!! everything to do with her absorbing that power and losing her memory is done and dusted and doesn't need further exploring 😁😁👍👍 I mean come on man..... give us something............
TLDR special was very fun but I expected it to do something interesting and subversive and it ended up playing the parody of itself completely straight. I'm hoping as more stuff comes out the showrunners are proven to be complete masterminds who purposefully made it like that and I'm gonna look like a bumbling idiot

4 Town x Reader Dating Headcanons
Now that you know how 4 Town are with crushes, let's find out what it's like dating your bias. I tried to make this as gender neutral as possible, but I've headcanoned my sexualities for them in my first post.
Send in requests if you have any!
Robaire
Tumblr media
Robaire is Mr Smooth, we know this, so when in a relationship with him, you can expect all kinds of lavish gifts and romantic gestures. Not that he thinks you're like that, it’s just his way of showing love.
He’ll speak to you in French a lot, just because that little blush that comes to your cheeks when he does this is so cute to him. If you speak another language, though, then just give him a dose of his own medicine. He’ll be too flustered to do anything.
His love languages are words of affirmation and acts of service. Of course, this is because of all his French fanciness, but the responsible side of him really caters to doing stuff for you. Literally anything. Chores around the house especially. If you’re shy or avoidant of conflict, he’ll step in for you and give whoever needs it a talking to. Problems solved.
He’s pretty chill about PDA, so it’s really up to you how affectionate you guys are. He’ll usually have an arm slung over your shoulders or waist, and will give little pecks to your knuckles no matter where you are.
Now, the ‘L’ word. I feel like Robaire would say it first, and pretty early on. He worried that you’d be freaked out, but he’s very in touch with his feelings and quickly knew that that new, fuzzy feeling in his chest was love. It HAD to be. He took you out to a nice dinner and after an hour or sweaty palms and poorer-than-usual eye contact, he shakily told you he loved you.
He calls you ‘mon amour’, ‘love’, and ‘darling’.
Jesse
Tumblr media
I headcanon Jesse as being pretty experienced with short-term relationships, but not anything super serious. Being a teenage dad changed that, so his relationship with you is full of learning curves. He loves it, though, because you’re worth the effort.
Because he has kids, you two make the most of every moment together. He’s not so into flashy dates like Robaire, but makes the most of the small moments. Whether it’s you touching up his roots or him teaching you the basics of pottery, he cherishes his time with you. Things like this make up the fabric of your relationship.
Love-language-wise, Jesse’s main ones are quality time and acts of service. This is pretty much for reasons already mentioned, but his time is valuable and so giving it to you is the ultimate form of affection. He’s also pretty responsible, like Robaire, and will do anything to make you feel secure, hence acts of service.
He’s not huge on PDA, mainly because his kids are around him a lot. He also worries about the press invading your privacy, so he tends to reserve physical affection for behind closed doors. If you’re insistent on giving him a few kisses or cuddles around the guys, though, he’ll obviously oblige.
Jesse was wary to tell you he loves you, initially. Not because he doubted it, but because he didn’t want to scare you off. He comes as a package deal, and wanted to be sure that you’re ready for that before declaring his love. Once he did though, you both became the strongest couple that the other 4 Town guys had ever laid eyes on.
Expect to be called ‘sweetheart’, ‘babe’ and ‘honey’.
Aaron T
Tumblr media
Oh man, be prepared for wild ride with a relationship with this guy. Jokes, pranks and general silliness are a given, but he naturally calms down a bit with you. He will wholeheartedly devote everything to you, no questions asked. Expect constant compliments, bone-crushing cuddles and a newfound, fun outlook on life with T.
Spontaneity is a word that pretty much describes T’s whole brand. He never really plans dates, but suggests ideas off the cuff as they occur to him. And he’s super willing to do any activities that you want, too! His favourites include beach days, theme parks and shopping at the mall.
T’s love languages are physical touch and words of affirmation. No doubt about it. He’s a clingy guy and is re-energised by your touch, so his hands will be holding yours, playing with your hair or squishing your waist all the time. And we know that T has no verbal filter, so it makes sense that this is another way that he shows love.
“Babyyyy, I WUV YOUUU!”, “Hold it, lemme take a pic. This light makes you look like an angel, for real…”, “Y’know I’ll love you when we’re old, right?! Like when you’re hair’s all grey and your skin looks like an old leather purse and you can’t go to the bathr- hey, HEY! OKAY I’LL STOP!”.
T’s also big on nicknames, so expect him to call you pretty much every other than your real name.
T has absolutely no problems with PDA, he’s a shameless simp for you. Unless you’re dead against it, he will always be giving you smooches and cuddles. The other guys get kinda annoyed about it at times, but seeing their friend happy makes them happy.
You were actually the first one to say the ‘L’ word. Not that T wasn’t feeling it, he was just too dense to realise that he loved you. You told him spontaneously during an ice cream date. He had just collected the cones from the little stand by the beach, then proceeded to trip over his own feet and drop the cones on the ground. In a fit of giggles, you told him you loved him, and he was too stunned to speak. Of course, he reciprocated, though!
As mentioned, nicknames are unavoidable with T, and you’ll have many, ranging from ‘baby’ to ‘jelly bean’. I don’t make the rules.
Aaron Z
Tumblr media
So, we’ve already cleared up that Z is pretty inexperienced relationship-wise, so you’ll probably have to initiate quite a lot of things. You suggested your first date, leaned in for your first kiss, and instigated pretty much everything else. It’s not that Z doesn’t want to, he just worries about coming on too strong. He’s an intimidating guy to some, so he appreciates you showing him that you’re okay with him.
His affection towards you is a quiet, gentle sort. He’s your rock, truly, and a chill one at that. He appreciates you taking the lead, as we’ve said, and will go along with any dates that you want to do. His favourites usually include snuggling up on the couch with you, though. And yes, in his eyes, that does count as a date. He’s not big on social scenes, and loves having you to himself.
His love languages are for sure physical touch and acts of service. So much of Z’s love is nonverbal, and he shows everything through actions. He’s also very protective, and will do anything to keep you safe. This includes holding you close to him when you’re out and about, reaching up for things on the top shelf so that you don’t stand on a chair and potentially fall, and all sorts of other stuff.
Unsurprisingly, he’s not into PDA at all. People often mistake you for being friends if they don’t know that you’re an item. Z’s a private person, and, in his eyes, a lack of PDA just makes your snuggles and kisses that much more special when you’re alone.
As is the case with T, Z was kinda unsure whether that feeling in his chest was love or not. Because he wasn’t absolutely certain, he kept waiting and waiting until he said anything. You beat him to it, though, blurting it out randomly while you were whispering to each other before going to sleep. His face went unbelievably hot, which was thankfully concealed in the dark, and his heart was hammering in his chest. In a heartbeat, though, he told you he loved you, too.
Although words of affirmation aren’t Z’s main love language, he finds nicknames cute. The main ones he gravitates towards are ‘princess/prince’, ‘cutie’, and ‘sweetie’.
Tae Young
Tumblr media
Being in a relationship with Tae is sweeter thank drinking kool aid through a red vine (Big Bang Theory fans, I see you.) It’s like stepping into a different world where everything is soft and cute and happy. Only Tae can make you feel that way, and you do the same for him.
Dates with Tae usually end up at the zoo, even if you stopped off some place else originally. It’s just such a fun day out, and chances are that if you’re with Tae, you like animals too. If you decide to switch things up, though, expect to be taken around local bakeries and sweet shops. Tae is a real foodie, and you both have so much fun taste testing different snacks and rating them.
Tae’s love languages are physical touch and gift-giving. He loves surprising you with little trinkets or things that you’ve had your eye on for a while. And while he’s kinda shy at times, he’s just as clingy as T and loves feeling connected to you physically.
Now, with PDA, Tae probably won’t initiate it. At least not consciously. He usually has his fingers entwined with yours when out in public, but it won’t go much further than that. If you want kisses from him when you’re out and about, you’ll have to either give him one or just straight up tell him.
Tae knew that he loved you for quite a while before telling you. He just never knew how to word it. Turns out, he didn’t really need to plan anything as he randomly blurted it out. You had been apart for a couple of days, and when you reunited, he said it without even thinking. Initially he was mortified, but one kiss and an ‘I love you too’ from you was all he needed to gain his confidence back.
His favourite nicknames include 'dove', 'love' and 'darling'.

Was analyzing characters and their objectives and realized that Mike’s has always been comfort, the primary example of this being in season 1: When the adults and general people in his life were not providing good comfort, he took matters into his own hands to form a search party because he didn’t trust the police.
In this season, he also latched onto El very much based on the comfort she provided in telling him that Will was alive. Not so much emotional comfort, but a sort of informational comfort.
And I could keep going through all the little things like how he tends to lash out when both Will and El feel inaccessible to him but the main point that I realized in listing all these things is that he has this tendency of emotional avoidance, but in a very specific way:
He doesn’t repress his emotions so much as he always solves the situation rather than coping with the emotions it brings up. Can’t cry about Will being dead if you find him alive first. (for example)
And that led me back around to his relationships with Will and El. We see in later seasons that Mike has an especially hard time in seeking comfort in season 1 because the person missing is the one he goes to for comfort. He even slips up and refers to him as a cleric or “healer” instead of a wizard (which is a big deal given that D&D is like...their whole thing).
And Will IS the person who helps him to actually cope with the emotions rather than “fix” the situation. We see this most in the “crazy together” scene with that solidarity and the van scene, where Will doesn’t do anything to actually affect the current state of his El’s fight, but does assure Mike that it’s gonna be okay.
On the other hand, without this emotional comfort, he latched onto and became infatuated with El not just as the person who specifically helped him find Will, but as the person who gave him something to hold onto when he could not handle his grief of the potential situation. And this is also repetitive. He doesn’t have a saviour complex so much as he appreciates that she is able to “fix” painful situations whether that be by swooping in and saving the day or just providing hope. And hope is great. And not inherently bad, I’m not saying that. But the consistency at which he resorts to it and holds off processing emotions in search of it is becoming an unhealthy pattern.
And what I realized is this is yet another great example of how Mike - not just in sexuality - tends to lean into El as what he thinks he needs rather than what he actually does.
They have a beautiful friendship, but this is another point on why their romance being the focus doesn’t fit the arc. If he has people in his life that can offer him help and comfort in the way that she does AND emotional comfort, he can find a balance and even grow into developing healthy habits in it himself.
But his current issue is a lack of ability to confront his emotions in any way but in retrospect. He has gotten better at acknowledging them that way, but he still needs to improve at admitting when he is currently in pain or worry or whatever it is. Otherwise, his issues will just continue if he doesn’t share his emotions, they affect things, he apologizes and acknowledges them in retrospect but there is no future prevention. Even when he doesn’t lash out or anything, there are still hurtful affects like his inability to say “I love you”. So with his problem being in coping with emotions when the situation isn’t fixed, the primary relationship focused on in his arc cannot be a person who fixes situations for him. It is a positive thing and a positive relationship but not one that would be representative of his growth or help it along in that specific sense.
He needs to go to and have the narrative focus be on the person who helps him feel better even when nothing is fixed. And maybe we can see a demonstration - or maybe it can just show a promise of that helping him to cope himself that way too. Because sometimes things aren’t gonna be okay. Like right now. They lost. Sometimes you don’t need “you’re not going crazy” you need “so what if you are?” Things go wrong and it will still be okay is the message he needs to be sent.

Why Can I Say So Much About The Owl House?
I effectively got asked this on Twitter and A: If not for all of yours asks, I probably would not even half of the blogs I do about TOH, if not closer to a tenth. B: I’m an analytical person, like talking about things like this and writing is my passion. Above all else is C though. The writers of TOH obviously know what a good story looks like... But they don’t know WHY it looks that way. They understand that character arcs are good so the more character arcs, the better. They understand that rivals to lovers is a great archtype ripe with storytelling possibilities but also that people complain about couples only getting together at the end. It understands that fantasy tropes are mocked so it’s good to mock them or lampshade our own use of them instead of asking if that mocking is in good faith. This one especially rings true for this concept to me because of how many times the show will try to claim they’re not using a fantasy trope before going “OH! We actually NEED to use the trope to make our story function, almost like the thing we’re mocking is actually just a part of fantasy storytelling as much as it’s a trope.” It’s very much so a “What do idiots on Twitter complain about” method of learning writing. You learn it by what people criticize as much as you learn by what is praised. The Cinema Sins approach effectively where there’s no nuance. The point is to attack every ‘problem’ you can claim in a product mixed with the question of “What do people praise the most about Avatar?” And for a simple story... That can work. It’s part of why S1 works. In general, S1′s storytelling is very much so nothing special but it’s done with charm and confidence. The only problem is that the show is setting itself up for larger topics, themes, concepts, etc. that it also isn’t prepared to tackle at the same time because there’s not enough thought put into each element so that they don’t contradict each other. Or, for that matter, function as a whole instead of disparate parts. From a narrative standpoint, this is a NIGHTMARE. You’re in effectively a narrative uncanny valley where all the elements for a good story are there but the skill of the writers, their priorities, etc. like that are NOT equipped to cash the checks their pencils are writing. It’s effectively a mindset that will ALWAYS have a crash happen narratively where things just fall apart and you’re going to divide audience the second that happens depending on where they land on the twin sides of the Uncanny Valley. And while ruinous for a story... It’s amazing from the standpoint of a teaching perspective. Most bad works after all have a core rot to them. Their main character is bad, the concept from go is flawed, the writing is just atrocious, etc. like that. Most have works one or two glaring flaws that tank the rest of the work, or that rot is purely in the form of lack of effort and it’s just boring with little to even care enough about to analyze. TOH IS different in that way. There is obviously a lot of love put into it. A lot of passion and a lot of confidence. It understands ALL of the tropes that work well for the type of story it’s trying to tell. On paper, TOH actually has a really good story and the different elements have a lot of potential for different ways for that story to go. But you need to know WHY those elements are useful for the story being told. If you don’t... You’re making a stew without the meat. There is no core flavor because you’ve shoved everything into it regardless of if it clashes, if it needs to be prepared in a certain way to work, if it needs to be cooked in an entirely different way before being added, etc. like that. It can’t even really have any real inventiveness to it like using bread as a scoop because it’s checking boxes. It’s saying “X is liked so we do X.” You need to know the why before you can give a unique answer to the problem that X solves or the like. This is probably why things most praised about TOH are titles. Swap Luz for a guy and how much changes, especially since Luz is bi? But because Luz is female, she’s heralded as part of a new wave of female protagonists that she is nowhere near the start of. Amity could have been an asshole dude and not much changes with her either but making her female as well gets you titled as the first openly gay, Disney TV cartoon (which god if that’s not a lot of caveats). It’s stuff that is frankly more easily answered in a panel than ever on screen because they’re elements that don’t matter to the show, as much I appreciate it for inclusive. It’s not an LGBTQIA+ story though. It only happens to have those characters. It’s not a story about race and ethnicity and being an outcast, Luz just happens to be Afro-Latina and no one rejects her simply for who she is. It’s not a story about gender because the show steadfastly refused to say racism and bigotry exist outside of just being a part of how we know the bad guys are bad people. It wants to be praised for these elements, it wants to appear smart about and unique for having them... But it’s a basic fantasy story at the end of the day. It’s none of these other things and it hardly wants to be any of them, even as it also won’t commit to just being another fantasy story. And... I guess that is kind of the personal motivation behind this. I LIKE basic fantasy stories. I LOVE fantasy as a genre in general. I think it gets WAY too much shit and that people try way too hard to claim to not be like other fantasy stories, either with gratuitous sex and nudity (Hi Game of Thrones) or constant subversion like The Owl House. TOH giving a middle finger to its genre though, while also not being willing to actually commit the proper care and attention to be something more complex is INFURIATING to me as a writer. I mean... I’m still angry just from a conceptual standpoint that Reaching Out has this setup:
Character A is normally brash and impulsive and energetic. Due to issues with their father, they are acting more reserved, scared and cautious, specifically because he DIED. Character B is normally more reserved, cautious and thinks things through. Due to issues with their father, they are acting more brash, impulsive and putting themselves in danger to prove themselves. And they’re dating. And Reaching Out does NOTHING with what is narrative GOLD. What is usually so hard to setup in a story because you want to show these sorts of contrasts, you want these sorts of changes of pace, you want this sort of reasonable, unreasonable conflict sources because they are such perfect ways to show how characters interact with their own problems, with others, what other sides of them can look like, etc. like that, LET ALONE WHEN THE TWO ARE IN A COMMITTED RELATIONSHIP! And the whole episode the two aren’t actually different from their normal behaviors, including Luz lying since that’s not new behavior for her, outside of Luz showing that despite death and loss being on her mind, she doesn’t give a fuck about that Amity is actively putting her life potentially at risk in this tournament. She literally gets BORED watching Amity fight and so joins herself for the sake of a distraction. Which... Different blog. I’ve made my point on how misguided these writers are but GOD there’s so many reasons why Reaching Out is one of the worst episodes of the series in my opinion. But that is also an example of what I’m talking about. They are trying a LOT. And failing a LOT. And instead of being really basic failures, figuring out what went wrong is an interesting puzzle and it’s understandable why some may not see the flaws, unlike with a more blatantly bad work like The Room or Teen Titans Go. Talking about either of those would be boring and almost pointless because... Look at them. Their flaws are so obvious and blunt and simple that you could teach with them but it’s not exciting and you’re going to run dry pretty quickly because neither ambitious enough not to be making the same mistakes over and over and over again. And for someone who’s brain NEVER turns off... I find ambition that obliterates itself far more compelling than something that is just straightforwardly bad. So I want to talk about it. Talk about the whys that the writers didn’t get. ======== I have a public Discord for any and all who want to join!

"Get out of here... All of you."
Whenever I see this scene outside the CK dojo of Robby telling them all to leave, I just think of how incredibly lonely Robby is. No one, absolutely no one, has ever truly been on his side.
I know Robby is judged for choosing Kreese in this moment, but I think Robby did this because Kreese was the safer option. By "safer", I mean safer for Robby's heart. His choice was never about the dojo war or picking a side. It was about himself and what was best for him then. It's really painful when you know from experience that the people who you care about and love don't care about you and love you the same way back.
It's important to note that neither Daniel nor Johnny had warned Robby about Kreese and the war he was waging. The day before, Daniel had told Johnny that Kreese had made it crystal clear that he is everyone's problem. But Daniel and Johnny never even considered that Kreese would go after Robby. That just shows how much they don't consider Robby as part of "everyone" and how insignificant they believe he is in general, or atleast to the dojo war. And the only knowledge that Robby had of Kreese had been what Daniel had told Robby about Kreese being Johnny's worst teacher. But, Kreese had been one of only three people to visit Robby in juvie, and Kreese's advice had helped Robby survive in juvie all alone, with no other support, for months. Daniel never visited like he had promised he would, and Johnny's one visit caused Robby more pain, especially after he had allowed himself to believe that Johnny would make his scheduled/promised visit. In fact, when Johnny had seen Robby's bruise, Johnny just accused Robby of starting fights, not even caring to ask what had happened or if he was okay, and Johnny never went back to make sure that Robby was okay. Also, from Robby's pov, Johnny had just shown up here at the dojo and started wailing on Kreese after he suggested that they all work together. Robby was truly shocked when Johnny did that, so it's obvious Robby didn't know what the Cobras had done that had led Johnny there because Johnny obviously sure as hell hadn't come there for Robby. When Johnny had barged in, Johnny asked Robby what he was doing there, instinctively blaming Robby for being there, despite knowing that Kreese had made it clear that he's everyone's problem and knowing Kreese's manipulative and deceptive nature.
Fact is, Johnny had already chosen not to be there for Robby his whole life, for which Robby blames himself, and on top of that, Johnny had chosen Miguel over Robby completely. Even in this moment outside the dojo, Johnny stayed standing next to Miguel making it clear who Johnny has chosen. Johnny didn't offer to be by Robby's side to convince him to leave Kreese nor did Johnny come to Robby's side to keep him safe from Kreese because Robby chose to stay with him.
Daniel had passed harsh judgment/punishment on Robby 3 times without hearing Robby out first. Daniel had disowned Robby the first two times, and Daniel had ambushed him the third time. Yes, the legal situation had to be solved, but who does that to their young student who was so dedicated and diligent? Mr. Miyagi would have never done that to Daniel and Daniel would have never done that to Sam, but Daniel did that to Robby because he's Johnny's son. Also, Daniel apologized to Robby for disowning him a second time while Daniel was stalling him for the cops. Of course, Robby didn't believe his apology. Daniel didn't even give Robby a proper conversation about such a traumatic situation. Instead, Daniel just ended up making decisions for Robby on his behalf based on Daniel's own beliefs about what had happened.
Standing outside of that dojo, with Miguel by Johnny's side and Sam by Daniel's side, what did Johnny and Daniel have to offer Robby? A stable home? Unconditional love and support? Johnny especially should have always been providing those things to Robby, but Johnny has been purposely depriving Robby of those things since day 1. Daniel had offered Robby a stable home when he'd brought Robby into his home and later called him family, but in one fell swoop, Daniel had taken that back from Robby when he'd screwed up (by not taking Sam home after Moon's party) because Daniel thought the worst of Robby because he's Johnny son. Daniel hadn't given Robby a chance to explain that time either. How can Robby trust Johnny and Daniel to be there and be consistent? He needs assurance of stable and consistent support from the adults who claim to care about him and claim to believe he's a "good kid". Johnny and Daniel claim to care, but they've proven to Robby that they'll walk away from Robby when he screws up or when he needs them most, judging him by thinking the worst of him (and without even giving him a chance to explain), and in Johnny's case, he'll walk away from Robby without reason anyway.
Kreese claimed to care about Robby, but Robby didn't care about Kreese. Robby didn't even trust him. Robby didn't trust anyone anymore. Staying with Kreese had always just been a temporary solution until Shannon got out of rehab.
(And, seriously? What the hell was wrong with Johnny and Daniel just leaving Robby with Kreese after Kreese had tried to kill them? Like I said, they really do think Robby is insignificant.)

I've been watching a lot of Bluey lately and I've seen some posts and tik toks that have been a bit concerned with the number of adult fans of the show and worried that it might be something like bronies who pushed out the target audience of young girls and made the entire atmosphere surrounding the show very toxic and inappropriate, but surprisingly the comparison hadn't even occurred to me until someone else brought it up because of the sheer fact that it's very clear in the writing of the show that it is for adults. Parents, specifically, but it's not an unexpected secondary audience that the show has captured. It's meant for adults in a way things like mlp just never was.
Most kids shows are written for kids with enough there for their parents to enjoy watching it as well. Bluey seems very much like a show for parents that has enough there that the kids enjoy it too.
Don't get me wrong, it's a kids show. I'm not saying that's not the target demographic. But the writing is for the parents. I don't mean that in a "oh there's innuendo" way or something like that. It's that each episode can be broken down into a moral and a lesson. The moral of every episode, which is generally very simple andusually outright stated in the first minute of the episode, is clearly for kids. And, to a kid watching, that might seem like what the plot revolves around. It's what the kids learn.
But the true plot of the episode generally actually revolves around the lesson, which is generally far more complicated and intended for the parents.
For example, a moral may be "it's okay to be small!" But the lesson is "kids can't always tell when they're unintentionally excluding a friend. They don't mean to be. They just don't know how to adapt what they're doing to fit what the other kid can and can't do and they're too young to have the emotional recognition skills to realize how much it hurts the kid who feels excluded. As a parent, it's your job to notice these things and encourage including all of the kids in a way that's fun. It's better to help them learn the moral than just to tell them."
Or one moral was "don't hog! Take turns fairly!" but the lesson was "when you aren't parenting as a unit, you build resentment and you undermine your partner's authority with the kids. Don't fall into partiarchal ideas that your husband just "can't handle" the kids. It's not fair to either of you. He wants to parent, too, and he's perfectly capable of it. And you need to be able to rely on him if you aren't able to be there to solve a problem. Parenting is a team activity and the most important thing you can do is make sure your expectations are communicated constantly and that you work together."
And it's not always something deep, just clearly there for the parents. Like, one moral is "sometimes all you can do about something or someone that's bothering you is ignore them." While the lesson is "you know that one bit your spouse does that you can't STAND but the kids love but you still really want to get rid of because it's so annoying? Yeah that's not going anywhere. This is your life now. Begin the process of accepting this"
These aren't little innuendo or jokes thrown in to keep parents from getting bored. They're the meat of the episode. Of course there's always reason for concern that the unintented audience of a show will begin to push out the intended one, especially in shows meant for kids, but the question of "is it inherently strange that adults are enjoying Bluey?" seems like a silly one. The show wouldn't be succeeding at what it's clearly trying to, if they weren't.

just finished Disco s4 and thought i'd do a little review thing:
overall i really enjoyed it, especially the concept/running plot which felt genuinely new and exciting. normally i resent when an entire season of a franchise show like Star Trek is about Saving the Galaxy or whatever because it's horribly overdone at this point but i really didn't mind this season because the plot was so rooted in communication and character rather than pew pew space battles (which i'm resigned to the fact that modern scifi is always going to have far too many space battles for my liking. sigh.)
i loved the general theme of connection and communication (and solving problems through talking/therapy!!) but there were definitely a few moments that were a bit heavyhanded for my tastes.
i do really love the general Burn era worldbuilding. i have some things i would probably do differently if i was the writer but rebuilding a broken Federation is just such a good setting for a show like Discovery. i like it
minor and maybe controversial opinion but i vastly prefer the s4 uniforms to the s1-3 uniforms. i get that the blue jumpsuits are more similar to what actual astronauts/military wear but alas i love colorcoding characters by department and the bright colors add a pop to a lot of the shots that was missing before.
seeing Michael as Captain gave me so much joy and she! has! earned! it! i love seeing her emotional growth from s1 to here and her being able to lead and express herself and..... gah i love her!
Zora!!!!!!!! i love her. i can't believe it took Star Trek this long to give us sentient spaceships.
i'm glad Tilly was out finding herself and discovering her own path but :( i miss her. the scenes she got with Michael this season were a delight though.
i literally don't care how cliched the queer found family is with Stamets & Culber & Adira & Gray, i love them dearly and specifically mentioning their queerness just. makes me really happy.
the Saru/T'Rina relationship was an absolute highlight. i'm not huge into shipping but all of disco's relationships are so nice and casual and laidback that it feels like such a breath of fresh air and all of the Saru/T'Rina scenes had me uwuing.
and all of the Michael & Saru scenes also had me uwuing... i just adore how their friendship has evolved since s1 and they're such a good team. even if it doesn't really make sense with ranks, i dearly hope Saru keeps being Michael's XO in s5 because they just make so much sense together
on the subject of relationships – i really like how conflict was introduced in Michael and Book's relationship and how that conflict was the driving force of the season without it ever feeling petty or like either one of them are toxic. Book is clearly making Bad Decisions but those decisions are entirely informed by trauma and experience and he never has a moment where he's entirely a villain, he's just trying to protect people in a misguided way after being manipulated by Tarka (who. also
.... i will admit even though i adore Michael and Book together, there a few moments where Michael and Rillak were talking that made me think 'huh what if?'. sorry not sorry. i just have a thing for political enemies becoming temporary allies becoming friends. lol maybe i'm more of a shipper than i thought. either way, i definitely loved the political aspects of Michael's role this season and i thought President Rillak was a good addition to the season.
as for some of the negatives....
i do like all of the main and recurring characters and i also like Discovery's experiments with having the main characters not be the bridge crew but also i'm just not convinced it works and i think for a hyper-serialized show, Discovery just has too many characters. i would love for the recurring characters like Detmer and Owo and Bryce, etc, etc, to get more of a character and the writers are obviously trying but because of the format it just feels like character traits are randomly peppered in rather than organically built into the story which a) led to some weird moments and dialogue and b) resulted in some of the main characters (like Stamets and Adira) being a bit underused this season.
very related to ^ that. because of the amount of characters on the bridge, there ended up being a ton of really awkward reaction shots where something dramatic happens and we slow down to get a close up of like. ten different characters. like i am glad these actors are getting fair coverage and all of that but at some point the way it was shot just felt a little ridiculous and overdramatic.
this is also very much out of the show's control but i feel like you could really feel the ways covid limited the show (so much greenscreen, limited background performers, characters conveniently standing 6 feet apart for whole scenes). i think they recovered decently and it doesn't affect my enjoyment that much but it definitely stands out.
and finally, i won't go on about this too much because people have unfairly criticized Disco to hell and back for this, but there was just a bit too much Therapy Talk for my liking. and to be clear, i don't mean too much Actual Therapy. i really respect the show for portraying therapy and trauma recovery in depth and just having cool main characters go to therapy because it's good and healthy is Very Cool. but i do think there are definitely scenes (particularly in the beginning of the show) that has dialogue fall into Therapy Talk where all the characters go around in a circle and coherently state their thoughts and emotions and then resolve their conflict. it just gave the impression that the scripts were rushed and the writers didn't have time to add nuance into the dialogue (very possibly related to pandemic stresses and the bad writing room practices that are hopefully being faded out after the WGA strike). it would have been fine in a scene or two but nearly every episode had one scene or line that made me want to rewrite it. it wasn't enough that it ruined the season for me at all (it's probably my second favorite Disco season after s3) but imo it made the season just good and not great.
i rated all the episodes (because i love nothing if not spreadsheets to track my fandom thoughts) and overall the season had an average rating of 8.17 out of 10. in comparison – s1 was 8.06, s2 was 7.92, and s3 was an 8.26. my favorite episode was Kobayashi Maru (9.4) and my least favorite was All is Possible (6.9).
anyways, i'm very excited for s5!!!

"Does it hurt, little one?"

So,
Basically, I was supposed to insert this as a super duper extra comic for Mother's Day. I planned everything nicely, so that I could make it for May 26.
...Then I found out that Poland is literally the only country where Mother's Day is celebrated on that day.
Shoot. You live and learn, they said.
Let's just pretend that I posted this on 14 May 2023, okay?
Nooow that we've got that out of the way, let me explain what's actually going on here. (As if you can't just show everything so everyone understands, you stupid potato-)
1. Why Gregory looks like a zombie
Here we have something I wanted to describe before, but didn't have the opportunity. It's about the workings of the "bloodstream" of the robot children (Gregory and Ella to be more precise). As you can probably guess, there is no need for their heart to pump anything, so everything here is apparent. Which doesn't mean, however, that they don't need their "blood". Oh no.
You see, they do have a device inside them that imitates a heartbeat, but the fluid inside them circulates completely on its own through their bodies. It doesn't just act as a substitute for human plasma - it makes them better able to feel emotions. They are able to feel pain. Thanks to this fluid, their feelings drive their mind. Fact, it is darker and more viscous than ordinary blood, but combined with stage blood and a bit of illusion, it does not arouse suspicion.
Viscous Dark liquid...sound familiar?
Ah yes - good old agony.
This, by the way, solves the possible problem of running out of artificial blood if the robotic kid gets too much damage, because if anything, his pain and the negative emotions associated with it will automatically fill his body with another amount of fluid. Besides, the agony spreads to other objects, including other robots. This gives a lot of new possibilities and...well, that's why Gregory has so many bandages on him. Afton likes to experiment on him sometimes...
Are you keeping up? Great, then how about this?
The reason Gregory is so bloody here is the punishment he received. Our little gremlin can usually handle the commands given to him, but stress, pressure and general overwork mean that sometimes he'll slip up and make a mistake.
Unfortunately, his father doesn't tolerate mistakes.
What is all this punishment about? Well, as Gregory nevertheless consists in part of a computer, Glitchtrap has access to his head. He can talk to him, influence his memories of his past live, and, most importantly, control his mental state. So, if he does something wrong, unpleasant consequences await him, in the form of a huge headache and vomiting blood/agony, which gets too much in him and just pours out through all the orifices of his body. A rather uncool feeling.
2. The relationship between Vanny and the little gremlin
It's a pretty difficult. For Gregory, I mean. Technically, he shouldn't feel anything for her; another tool, possibly an accomplice, alive today, she could be dead tomorrow. Yet he cares, heck, he sees her as some kind of parental figure, as his father is a psychopathic murderer turned AI, and about his mother, for some unsuspecting reason, he can't remember anything specific, except that she had light hair and was called Christine (Hehe, because, you know, Christine!...heh....begins with a C, like Clara, okay?). He would never admit it to himself, but he feels damn sorry for her, because of everything that happened. Especially since he was complicit in pushing her away from her loved ones, worsening her mental state, and ultimately helped bring about her possession. Yep, a manipulative little manipulator. Oh well.
So Gregory feels guilty, while at the same time insisting that he shouldn't, because, after all, he's not doing anything wrong - he just wants to put his family back together. Therefore, he rather tries to avoid her, and is often just plain mean - the fact that she is such a nice person to him simply overwhelms him.
I'll bet my caramel and hazelnut chocolate that I made some stupid translation mistake.

whats ur thoughts on jdonica?
(- same anon with the heathers ship)
They're a complicated mess together but aside from that, they're one of those classic ship dynamics tropes — bad boy and good girl. Opposites attract too.
And while the good girl usually ends up making the bad boy change in the stories, Veronica doesn't do that. Instead of making JD become a better version of himself like most fictional female characters do in good girl and bad boy stories, she enables him and the same goes for him with her.
Their relationship is incredibly unhealthy and codependent. When Veronica accidentally kills Chandler and JD suggests they disguise her death as suicide, she's really quick to do it without questions and while that can be understandable since she doesn't want to be in prison for accidentally murdering her worst enemy. That happens with Kurt and Ram too which goes to show how much she was relaying on JD since he would know what to do.
I can't say this for anyone else but there was some sort of power imbalance between those two to me. JD leading things while Veronica followed and so. While it is a problematic relationship in general, I can't lie and say it's not a good pairing. It's a ship that shows just how messy and confusing romantic relationships can be especially for those that are still young (teenagers) or for those who are unexperienced with them.
Not just that, JD and Veronica actually clicked with each other. They were different but they shared things with one another. They couldn't understand each other fully but they still understood each other. I think that was a problem in their relationship. I mean, they just clicked with each other and it's like they're meant to be together. It's things like that usually ends with people in a relationship becoming disappointed because you thought you guys were the one for each other but as it turns out, you guys aren't even meant for one another.
I like to think that what Veronica had for JD in both the movie and the musical was just infatuation because it was intense but it was short-lived and it was easy to mistake that they were perfect for one another based on a few things they had. For JD? I think what he had for Veronica was limerance because in one way or another, he really thought that his relationship with the brunette could solve his problems and maybe fix him. He also didn't really see Veronica being flawed and with things like love, you actually have to acknowledge a person's flaws. He didn't see Veronica as a girl who could do anything wrong until she was against him and what he wanted or his plans for Westerberg.

tng liveblog of the day, because, plot twist, we went ooone more evening. this evening's episodes were "the battle" and "hide & q."
i thought "the battle" was GREAT actually. 38 minutes into this episode i told cathy it was watchable and i had to STOP so she could watch it with me but i was genuinely invested and i thought the premise and the effects were generally very cool. even wesley only had one annoying moment that was 5 seconds long. EASILY my favorite tng episode so far
things i loved: introduction of the picard maneuver, the implication that he had maybe fucked up a lil bit (even if they didn't have the spine to follow thru with it), the ferengi first officer relieving his captain of duty when he realized the guy was bonkers, the "ghost" effects during the flashbacks, the SCORE, the empty burned out little spaceship ambience!!
it was actually giving conscience of the king a little bit - something set entirely aboard the ship concerning the dark past of the captain. i really wish they had leaned harder into solving the mystery - i had to rewatch to understand that picard's "confession" voice log was indeed the one faked, and we never found out why the ship picard destroyed attacked them to start with
i feel like whether or not they had had a good reason, picard showing more genuine remorse to the feregi captain for having to take his son's life, especially if we knew he had lost some of his own people, would have really brought together the emotional arc they were trying to sell. it was really REALLY good compared to the other episodes so far it just felt like it needed another ten minutes
also i'm having this problem, and this IS a me problem, this is not any crime tng is committing, but whenever tng DOES do anything good i'm like "damn imagine if this had happened in tos" and so i'm now just imagining that the father of a captain of a ship kirk destroyed came back and gave him ptsd flashbacks to cause him to fire on the enterprise as a means to revenge and bones keeps trying to treat him and gets told to buzz off so he goes to spock behind kirk's back and then when kirk is brainwashed and crazy spock has to decide on whether he should FIRE BACK or LET THE WHOLE ENTERPRISE BE DESTROYED and and and and and.................
and i get lost in my mind palace wishing for an episode that doesn't exist. sigh. big task they had, those tng writers. i bet the housewives were doing this too.
"hide & q" was not good at all, although they had the bones for a good episode in there. i think hide & q could also have used another ten minutes at the end, but actually they did have the time! they just wasted it all on q wearing funny costumes and napoleon aliens. which. sure.
almost all of my problems with this episode could have been fixed with another ten minutes. for example: after getting q powers will went nuts too quickly. i think if he had gotten them at the start of the episode and remained steadfast and not cracked until they found the dead girl i would have believed it much more.
AND ANOTHER THING: giving everybody their heart's desire. this was easily the best scene in the episode and we rushed right through it. the worf stuff was fucking horrible - this snarling woman in fishnets who gets slapped around and has no dialogue - but his line, "that world is now alien to me," was REALLY intriguing and we got nothing else about it. also we got a throwaway line talking about the klingons being defeated? girl since when?? i'd looove to know anything about worf ever. unfortunately.
it's a particularly cruel trick with geordi and data - data at least got to refuse and explain why (i did love his momentary panic though), but geordi's whole shit got rocked. he's gonna be thinking about those 30 seconds of sight for the rest of his life and kicking himself for turning it down. if this episode had leaned into that moment of cruelty, even done with good intentions, it would have held up the moral a lot better. instead we got weird klingon sex rituals and also whatever was going on with tasha
here's the thing. i kind of like that she cried despite being so stoic all the time otherwise bc it gives her depth, right? in spite of how horribly they treat her she's definitely my fav female character rn. but firstly the reason she cried was kind of dumb and SECONDLY when picard was like "tears on the bridge are excused when one is in the penalty box" in the kindest most fatherly tone ever and REALLY endeared me to both of them they immediately ruined it by having her FLIRT with him???
anyway, that episode could have been better. conceptually it kind of fucked. execution wise it sucked. also lmao riker didn't grant any of the women's wishes <3
