my coworkers, all of whom are white Christian women, said today that they think ANYONE of Palestinian descent should be deported to Gaza and then have bombs dropped on them.
They don’t know I’m Palestinian. I’m fucking terrified. We don’t have HR. I can’t lose my job. It’s crazy to me that they can spout genocidal bullshit but if I so much as mention my ethnicity they may turn on me and hate me.
I’m a patient care coordinator at a pulmonary practice. All I want to do is make sure my patients get the care they need and deserve. I’m the only care coordinator in my office. I’m great at my job. But it was so hard to focus today knowing that if my coworkers knew about one of the biggest aspects of my identity - one of the things about myself about which I am the most proud - they would stop seeing me as a person.
Fuck off with the bothsidesism. With the whataboutism. This is what the mass of propaganda and lies and anti-Arabism being spread in the media do. And I’m terrified.

• Fidgeting and stuttering do NOT always indicate that someone is nervous.
• Avoiding eye contact does NOT always mean someone is lying.
• Having a hard time focusing does NOT always mean someone is lazy.
• Carrying around a stuffed animal or blanket does NOT make someone childish.
• Poor motor skills is NOT a direct indication of intelligence.
Not everyone fits into your box. Deal with it.

I will never stop thinking about the fact that the Hunger Games was canonically a drunk hypothetical. It wasn’t some great government scheme.
So many bad dystopian novels that have some crazy world building premise make it seem like some great creation from powerful minds. Some great construction. Think of City of Ember with its box or Divergent with its weird scientists(??) or The Selection with its bachelor premise, they are always “grandly designed.” Even in Catching Fire with the Quarter Quells the Games give off an air of grand planning.
But the hunger games were a HYPOTHETICAL. A crazy, extreme, what if. They were never supposed to exist. They were never supposed to be real.
Who wouldn’t drink themselves to death knowing they thought of the idea in the first place?

Click here to directly send feedback to Tumblr Support about the new feature of training AI generators with OUR creations.
@staff turned off replies on their post about AI implementation. They’re dropping this on us, plugging their ears, and looking the other way and we can’t even tell them how we feel. That’s unacceptable.
This is a suggestion box that the Tumblr Staff themselves have set up. Let’s use it.
Tell them exactly how you feel about this new AI generation- its effects on the artist and writer communities, the blatant theft of our hard work and opportunities, the saturation of online feeds with these soulless, misshapen images and unintelligible writing. Express that disappointment, sadness, fear, and anger. They need to know.
And!! I haven’t see anything about using just art and images to train their AI generators. Writing is probably also fair game!! Everyone who posts on this site is affected by this!
Tumblr media
Select the category “Feedback” and “New Features” and let the people in charge here know exactly how we feel about being automatically opted in to train AI generators with our creations.
Yes, you are opted into this by default!! If you still need to turn off third party sharing for your blog, Here is a quick guide on how to opt out of training AI with your blog’s creations. It’s just a hidden switch to flip in your Settings menu.
Together, our voices will be loud and clear.

short disney rant that covers like a half of my disappointments:
I really miss the romantic tropes in Disney. That's what made a lot of the classics even magical in the first place. I'm sick and tired of the familial love and uniting the community themes (leave that to Pixar PLEASE).
Really what happened to true love 🥺💔?
And your telling me we could've had a star-boy version of Jack Frost?? This movie was everything but my wish come true ugh ☹️😞

they were going to get married. we were going to see them struggle with the inn, and grow together, and overcome new obstacles. we were going to see how the crew’s journey came to a close, where the revenge ended up, what happened with their plans for prince ricky. we were going to see them fight for each other one last time. we got a happy ending in case this very thing happened, but we didn’t get THE happy ending - the one david jenkins has had in mind the whole time. ed and stede weren’t finished, the crew weren’t finished, their stories hadn’t truly concluded and i am so sad.

Just in case anyone else needed to hear this today-
Your health is not your fault. You didn’t do anything to “deserve” this. And you are right, it isn’t fair. You are allowed to feel upset, hurt, angry and jealous that your health, body or mind disables you.
It’s not fair, and that sucks. You are allowed to scream about that as much as you need to.

This is why we’ve been telling people not to stan staff and this website, Just because they’ve gotten better at making the same jokes as the users doesn’t make it « one of us ». Tumblr is a corporation, an exploitative one. @staff pls have a crumb of respect for artists and do not expect free labor, custom art AND all exploitation rights for MERCH. Exposure does not pay bills. This is extremely insulting.
@libbyframe i am so sorry they would even disrespect your time and your craft like that.

I don’t know how to explain to some of you that it’s okay for creators to make money
Like yes capitalism sucks the endless stream of sequels and marvel movies and rehash after rehash is exhausting but when we’re talking about indie studios, even the larger ones like Critical Role, some of you are just so quick to jump to “soulless cash grab” at the slightest hint that there may be a profit based motive behind a project. Which. There literally always is
The idea of the starving artist has given us the concept they “good” creators never think about money even when they’ve managed to pull off the miracle of being a full time creator. That’s rare, and precarious. Sometimes they will have no choice to put profit before creativity because that’s literally what they need to survive. If they give a shit, which it’s incredibly bad faith to assume they don’t, they’ll still try to make that profit-motivated project good and enjoyable. Because they know putting out a bad product won’t generate that oh so evil profit and they just CARE and want to put good art in the world regardless of the motive
Some of y’all just straight up hate when creators are successful or put any thought towards profit. I’m not saying you’re doing that purposefully, you’re jaded, I get it, but you’ve got to start allowing some nuance because even the most original, anti-establishment creator needs to fucking eat
So many of the people I see saying this are aspiring creators themselves. What do you think you’re going to have to do? Do you think you’ll just magically be an exception? We all live in the same world. If you want to be a creative professionally, always remember what you said and what your subject did in situations like this, because it will happen to you

I’ve talked about this with some friends, but the whole Spotify/audiobook drama legitimately makes me want to cry.
If you are unaware, earlier in the month, Spotify, who now owns FindawayVoices -- an audiobook distributor and one of the only major rivals to Audible on the creator end -- announced that their ToS would be updating.
The ToS updates were horrendous and basically allowed Spotify to make royalty-free translations of our works, as well as create derivatives, and basically just fuck us all over and feed all of our hard work into AI.
The backlash was so swift that less than 12 hours later, Spotify sent out a panicked “Sorry our wording wasn’t clear!” email with a promised update. Less than 24 hours later they issued a statement walking back the changes to the ToS, and have since been pulling a “we never said that, you misread our unclear verbiage” when in reality the verbiage was very clear (Not Spotify trying to pull a “gaslight gatekeep girl boss ✌️”), they just didn't expect to get dragged out into the metaphorical court of social media and get publicly annihilated with authors withdrawing their work from the platform and customers canceling their subscriptions left right and center.
Anyway, the walk back was acceptable enough for me to not feel the need to remove my work entirely from FindAway -- which is good because I would have lost access to the global audiobook market if I had, not to mention global library access. Which, again, is good. A significant chunk of my audiobook earnings comes from Libby, and I’d honestly be lost without that $20 every month. (we get paid quarterly but it breaks out to about $20 a month.)
What the walk back was not good enough for, was for me to trust them to keep streaming Hunger Pangs on their Spotify streaming service. Because quite frankly, I don't trust them not to pull some more ToS bullshit, and this is the part making me want to cry.
Why? Because I’m going through my royalty reports, and for the single month of December 2023 alone, Hunger Pangs was streamed so often it earned $400.
In one month.
That's more than I earn from Audible in a year.
That's more than I earn from kobo, b&n, libby, libro.fm and several author distributors combined in a year.
I’m going to scream.
