If the character of Bella had been introduced in the second season, with the girls finding out that she was also a mermaid things might have gone differently. Like, yeah, it wouldn't have fit with the whole "only three mermaids" theme, but let's think about it for a second. She is friendly, sweet and understanding, she could have met Charlotte in art class and get along with her right away. Charlotte would have a friend she could lean on when things with Lewis weren't going well, she wouldn't need to spend all her time with him because she has someone else that give her affection, and she wouldn't want to join Cleo, Emma, and Rikki so desperately either.
For Lewis, it could have been that friend who, even though she might disagree with how he acted sometimes, would give him the empathy and appreciation that the girls didn't give him in many moments because she would understand he was in a difficult position. He really cried out for having a source of support that doesn’t force him to choose sides all the time and maybe, ironically, that could have made him more corageous to stand up for himself and for Charlotte.
And as for the girls, I think that even though Bella would have had a hard time saying what she thought because she would have been afraid to confront them now that she could feel like she belonged somewhere, she would have called them out for their intimidating and rude behavior towards Charlotte and Lewis.  Remember that on (rare) occasions she brings out her bad temper, she may not know how to see when she herself isn’t being treated well, but she may have a little more judgment when other people are being unfair to other person and she wouldn’t have hesitated, knowing what it was like for her to go through that experience alone, in helping Charlotte if, even with everything, she had become a mermaid)
I don't know, I believe because of her inherently good nature and the fact that she wasn`t part of the group from the beginning, she could have been the glue between the two feuding parties (Lewis, Charlotte vs the girls). She would have provided a valuable outside perspective that wouldn't have been so contaminated by festering emotions.
Of course, she would need a therapist herself to deal with it without losing her mind hahaha.
Your thoughts? Perhaps too idealistic?  I don’t want to say that her mere presence could have prevented the conflict, but it could have made it easier to bear with it and reach a better ending.

Yeah, apparently I can't control myself so here are some headcanons I've made from H2O just add water (it is a fanfiction I'm still planning to write)
So, after Lewis got his scholarship to the USA, he's afraid that his relationship with Cleo won't be the same
Cleo is also afraid but also optimistic and happy for him
They try to keep in touched everyday, even though Lewis is very busy.
They don't need to spend hours in the cellphone; he smiles for a whole day when Cleo texts him in the morning "you'll do great today in your exams, love you". And Cleo would read his brief and sweet messages before going to sleep so she could forget a bit about her problems
She was worried after her graduation because she still didn't really know what to study in college.
And Lewis would try to help her as always
They would never tell each other but sometimes wondered if the other would find someone better during this period
Cleo was not so insecure anymore but she couldn't help having this thoughts where a Charlotte 2.0 appears and gets too close
Lewis, on the other hand, would be very secure about his relationship with Cleo because he trusts her. But sometimes he remembers how incredibly beautiful she is and he couldn't blame anyone who would fancy her
But in general, a long distance relationship was better than they thought
So one day, around one year later, Lewis' friends in the US think that he needs to try to be with someone else because his australian gf was cheating on him by that time for sure.
And they try to take him to a party because "you need to live a bit outside of this lab" (and some of them would try to mock him for being a "virgin" but Lewis honestly couldn't care less)
Thing is, he really is not interested, even if he was single, because that research was the most important thing that moment
Their friends at some point give up, but not after making him go at least to one party with them.
They thought that he would finally bang someone, but he is there only to make them stop inviting him to these parties bc he def had some more important things to do
And yeah, there were lots of pretty girls there
But none of them had the same kind, green eyes, and that wide smile, and calm thoughtful voice.
Lewis didn't usually think too much about how he missed Cleo, but that night he wished he was in the moon pool cave just looking at her
And he faced the sky and saw the moon. He couldn't help but think about all the full moon nights he spent awake to help the girls
And for the first time in months he allowed himself to cry - not only because he missed Cleo, but also missed those days that would never return.
So he picked his phone, knowing that Cleo would be probably working at that time and left her a message
"Hey, Cleo. I was just... Looking at the moon. And yeah, I'm on this party here, people thought I needed to have some fun and leve the lab a bit but... I just want to say that I miss you. A lot. Nothing has changed. And nothing is funny without you. But I look at the moon and at the ocean and I.. I like to think that we're not so far away".
When Cleo hears it, some tears roll down her face because she never heard Lewis sound so heartbroken. And yeah, sometimes she also missed him that it would almost literally hurt
She could tell that he wasn't okay and her only thought was "He is lonely"
And she decides that it was time to visit him and she would go. Swimming.
Of course she had to tell her dad she would go by plane using some savings she had.
Rikki didn't really like the idea of Cleo swimming a whole ocean alone
Bella thought it would be amazing
But Cleo convinces them that it won't be so difficult because she can control the water
And in fact, it wasn't. Most of the time she didn't need to swim so hard bc the water was carrying her. And she somehow knew where to go
It took her one day and she was amazed with the possibilities
Of course she hadn't told Lewis she would be there, so she just headed to his address
And when he opened the door, after a day of studying hard with a bottle of energy drink he thought his mind was playing him tricks
But it was her. In front of him, smiling.
They looked at each other in silence for a moment, all the words they wanted to say shared through their stares
And when she hugged him, suddenly he felt home. And when they kissed, she felt everything was alright again
Part of his brain wanted to ask how the hell she arrived there swimming
But all he could think was about her lips that tasted like salt water
And they were just there, in his tiny living room, the last rays of sun going through the window, heating even more the moment, the scene and their bodies
He didn't even asked if that was her first time - he knew it was their first time, they knew each other since they were five and it was surprisingly how their bodies communicate so perfectly with each other when they struggled with words
And she could tell he was nervous and kinda wished it was full moon so she would be more confident
It was gentle, caring and loving, with lots of kissing and giggling
And when it was over, they felt the same way: relieved and delighted
After a moment, Cleo says "so, apparently it was worth it to swim across the ocean"
And he just smiled and said "you didn't have to do this, you know."
"I know. But you needed me. It was your full moon and I couldn't leave you alone in a full moon. I thought it was our main rule in the mermaid club."

Kinda a h/c ask, I suppose, but specifically about the 🧜🏾-AU, because I just saw that you reblogged that one gifset, so... please indulge me? 👉👈
(If you ever write this) (I am offering you my soul) 🙏
- Is there going to be a version of the rooftop scene?
- If so, and if it's still a rooftop, do you plan on Max being scared of heights too? Maybe expecting known skydiving adrenaline junkie Lewis to make fun of him but instead Lewis is serious and gentle and calms him down 🥺
- Also: Will there be a Lewis-risking-his-secret-and-own-safety-in-order-to-save-Max-because-Max-is-more-important-moment because I would live for that. 🫠🫠🤌 I want them to kiss abt it
- Have you thought about who could be Max' bestie in this? The Nate to his Zane, but much less annoying, so to speak. Landooooo? 😗
- Does Lewis have anyone who knows about him for like, emotional support and cover stories? Thinking along the lines of SV or VB
- Is there going to be the classic antagonist, aside from, I assume, Max' dad?
- Isn't it crazy that this one guy in season two is named Max Hamilton. That's a sign for you
i'm late with this but let's go!!
(keep your soul i'd rather have a newborn)
- Is there going to be a version of the rooftop scene?
yes.
- If so, and if it's still a rooftop, do you plan on Max being scared of heights too? Maybe expecting known skydiving adrenaline junkie Lewis to make fun of him but instead Lewis is serious and gentle and calms him down 🥺
oh max scared of heights is cute! but i think the main focus would be lewis scared of the rain. i do think this is a moment where lewis makes a snarky comment about max's dad always paying for what he needs and max is like yeah well. he's not an easy man, okay. maybe insert a version of the gas-station story from max. and lewis is like huh oh. okay. it will have that gentle calming vibe tho!!!
- Also: Will there be a Lewis-risking-his-secret-and-own-safety-in-order-to-save-Max-because-Max-is-more-important-moment because I would live for that. 🫠🫠🤌 I want them to kiss abt it
ohhh what h20 scene is this referring to? the scene where emma saves zane from the sinking boat? yeah maybe. max has to figure out about the existence of mermaids somehow, because that'll end up breaking max/lewis' relationship
- Have you thought about who could be Max' bestie in this? The Nate to his Zane, but much less annoying, so to speak. Landooooo? 😗
oh pleaaasee i hate nate. lando would be a good bestie! maybe a fellow jet skiier but just not as good? hmm i am taking notes taking notes.
- Does Lewis have anyone who knows about him for like, emotional support and cover stories? Thinking along the lines of SV or VB
oh yeah so he isn't the only one knowing about the mermaid stuff. like a lewis to lewis. fucking hell why'd they name lewis lewis. so! yah i think there should be a science-obsessed best friend who knows about the mermaidism. maybe seb! i don't want to include too many other drivers bc i love it when the focus is solely on them!
- Is there going to be the classic antagonist, aside from, I assume, Max' dad?
yeah there has to be someone along the lines of that scientist who set up cameras and found out about the mermaids!! i just...don't know who or what or how yet.
- Isn't it crazy that this one guy in season two is named Max Hamilton. That's a sign for you
I KNOW I SCREAMED AT THIS IT'S INSANE!! and he's the lewis to rikki/emma/cleo, that's even wilder. he made their lockets <33 too cute

i am once again going insane about tiny zikki moments from mostly unrelated episodes. today's installment is their moments in 2x24 'three's company'
let's talk about the moment he finds her on the beach and calls out 'hey stranger!!' and she immediately gives him this familiar and fond smile. he wants to hang and she's trying to be all cold and distant but you can tell she is so happy to see him like when he offers to take her to the movies and holds her hands and does the little thumb-rub thing not once but TWICE tumblr user hoziersgf found deceased she can't stop smiling even though you can tell she doesn't want to be. then rikki is like 'some other day okay' and kisses his cheek and it is undisputably adorable and he just. leaves her to it. lets her have her space even though he misses his gf because he knows she's going through it with mermaid shenanigans and respects her boundaries season one zane would NEVER
also litch really wrote an entire post about this one (1) exchange but to recap when rikki goes to see zane after taking a step back from the girls and he 1. grins at her like she hung the moon and 2. instantly clocks she's had a fight with the girls since he knows both her AND her friends sooooooo well plus they have a cute little kiss they are in love your honour
we as a society NEED to talk about the moment they’re strolling down the beach with their arms around each other teasing each other and zane is like i’m better company than your friends and rikki is like ‘it’s debatable’ and they both just laugh like they’re so happy and comfy around each other just. doing nothing. plus they are both clearly so mad when emma and cleo interrupt their kiss. can we also talk about the little moment when they say they need to talk to rikki and he patiently waits for her to come back. when she goes back to him her expression instantaneously turns from sour to totally happy and relaxed she’s all ‘where were we’ and he’s like ‘kissing’ and puts his arm around her again and kisses her on the cheek and they laugh together AGAIN. they are disgusting i literally hate them so much.
can't not comment on the other beach scene where rikki is clearly a little restless after excluding herself from the group and zane instantly knows what's wrong and suggests they go to lewis's party. then when she shoots him down immediately he is like 'you don't have to let charlotte win you can go back (to the group) whenever you want' and rikki looks all thoughtful and introspective because she hadn't considered that before. i am the furthest thing from a charlotte hater but in this moment zane reminds her who she is, that she won't let people walk all over, that she's rikki chadwick and she won't be the loser to someone else's winner. zane truly knows her so well that, by simply being there, he never lets her forget who she is. *screams for one thousand years*
i am thinking about the little moment when they're sitting sipping their juices at the juicenet being both adorable and iconic when ash calls rikki. for a sec she meets zane's eye and is like 'hi ash how's the party 😉' because she knows charlotte has probably done a piss poor job throwing a party for lewis sorry charlotte baby i love you dearly but that was a certified mess <3 and wants zane to be included in the joke. when she hangs up she's like 'cleo and emma have left lewis's party' and immediately zane matches her tone like 'that's not like them' just as concerned as her. not only does my guy know rikki chadwick like the back of his hand he knows her friends too!!!! immediately she's like 'exactly' and they rush off together to see what's going on because they are a team and it's fine i'm fine i'll be fine
plus when they’re outside charlotte’s pool room when ash is trying to burst in on cleo and emma and zane is the one to get him to leave them alone when rikki can’t like he leads him away saying it’s ‘secret women’s business’ or what have you. king shit. i also personally think that zane was at least a little bit involved in putting the party boat together for lewis since you can see him checking his watch and staring at the water as if waiting for something right before it gets there i am connecting the dots etc.
anyway in conclusion i believe in zikki supremacy <33

please I need to know WHAT is the psychickers h2o mermaids au please tell me I've been thinking about it all day the autism in my mind has consumed me and all I can think about is psychickers h2o mermaids au
OKOK SO I DONT HAVE IT WRITTEN DOWN ANYWHERE BUT I GOT IDEAS !!
Basically in h2o there's three mermaids at first (Rikki, Cleo, and Emma) and yk three mermaids and there's three psychics. So it's not like an incredibly accurate substitution for the characters but just a general substitution. Like the psychic kids aren't taking the place of one singular character just of a mermaid if that makes sense. So saiki and Miko and Tori are mermaids. And like how in h2o there was a normal guy who wasn't a mermaid but helped them when they needed it, we got Akechi as the normal non mermaid guy (bc he's not a psychic in saiki k).
As for their powers I'm still deciding but for right now I'm leaning more towards Tori having that mist evaporation power Rikki has and then Miko having the moving water thing cleos got going on? And then idk if I should have saiki get the freezing water power or if he should have all of them like Charlotte did? And idek who's be Bella or Charlotte in this au I haven't thought that far ahead Idek who Zane would be. He's giving saiki vibes but the relationship Rikki and Zane had is more of an aren and metori relationship and doesn't really work with any of the psychickers or any other character. And since Charlotte was sorta cleos rival and liked lewis then if I wanted someone to fill her role it'd be extra super tough bc who tf would like Akechi? (Besides the psychickers) The closest to Charlotte to me would be Teruhashi (bc why wouldn't the perf pretty girl have all the powers and be special and a mermaid etc) and maybe she'd be trying to get saikis attention instead of Akechi's but idk if I should really make teru a villain hmmm
As for the story I don't think I'd follow the plot of h2o besides some things like the plots Abt the full moon and how they turn in that magic pool of water and maybe their work place. Id def change their backgrounds a lil (both different from the show and the anime). So Idk if Tori would still be a monk here or not, it depends on whether I want them to just live by the beach in Japan or westernize them. Tho I think him being a monk and having to juggle his monk duties with being a mermaid would be interesting. But I was thinking of making Tori a surfer or like lifeguard for summer bc I thought that'd be incredibly interesting. Like he'd have to decide to still be a surfer or a lifeguard or to stop being a mermaid.
Of course I don't really wanna change their personalities tho putting them in a diff setting and stuff makes things a lil difficult bc without the settings and conditions they grew up in they might've turned out different. Aka maybe if he didn't have to hug ppl and didn't grow up as a monk Tori might've not turned out a perv, or without her powers and stuff Miko wouldn't dress or speak like a gyaru, and without his powers saiki wouldn't be so angsty and sad. Also idk if I want them to be friends before they turn mermaids or the fact that they all turn mermaids by accident together forces them to become friends reluctantly. I like the latter tho. Them all sorta hating or disliking each other (which is kinda how the three girls were in the show at the beginning I think) would be fun.
Though if miko didn't have her lil fortune telling business I think she'd maybe have a different business that involves the beach somehow? Though again it would be fun if she still grew up being interested in fortune telling and astrology stuff. And as for saiki I think he'd still be pretty quiet and introverted even without his powers yet somehow still easily make friends like nendou and kaidou. Though I think Akechi still staying his childhood friend after all this time would be the only thing that changes for saikis relationships. He never moved away so they stayed best friends.
And akechi gets two more friends out of it when he notices his best friend acting weird and all of a sudden he's hanging out with these two monkeys he's never seen before and he gets suspicious and follows them and sees one of them turn into a mermaid and he gasps and wants to study them etc etc. Also instead of cleos sister kusuke would be the annoying sibling, still older sibling and he'd find out Abt saikis secret too eventually, a long with the other twos secret.
Now what I can't really decide is if there should be any ships or not especially between the psychickers. Idk if I want a big polycule or mikotori or torisai or torikechi. I still need to iron out a lot of details as u can see but ty for the ask! <333

Headcanon: How Mermaid Powers Work - from a Scientific Point of View
Tumblr media
Sup homies. I’m back with a long-awaited post - the science being the entirety of the mermaid power set. Recently I’ve been more into molecular science and physics than I'd ever thought I’d like to, so I’ve gathered around some information that I, personally found pretty interesting.
So what forces could make water move around like that? Or change into ice? Or generate a spontaneous wave? The show provides a lot of information about the elemental powers and we get some of the most solid evidence for it. For instance, the show establishes early on that celestial forces have a huge impact on a mermaid's powers, especially since the moon pool itself is made of a moon rock, that arrived to Earth by a comet, and we learned that the girls' powers are strongest during a full moon. The mermaids draw their power from the moon, and seem to be stronger at night. Their powers were magnified during the seventh moon cycle at the beginning of season 2, and every full moon they seem to have stronger powers (for instance, Rikki could create fire in season 1, despite only being able to heat water during that time).
We also learned that eclipses have the opposite effect on mermaids, as they completely lose their abilities when the moon is eclipsed. Just this information alone gives us key Intel about the underlying science behind mer-powers. A lunar eclipse is gonna block a mermaid's powers entirely. Now the moon doesn't emit any sort of solar radiation per se, but it does exert another major force on Earth – gravity. Gravity from the moon is in fact what makes all water on Earth bend in the first place - in the form of ocean tides and currents - all caused by water sloshing around on the face of the Earth. It's literally bent outward by the gravity of the Moon on one side and then sloshes back on the far side of the Earth, effectively creating these bulges on either side of the world where the high tides are, and the water in the middle is being sucked out, creating low tides. And the show absolutely knows that this connection exists and it does a really good job of reflecting it as a basic property of mermaid powers. From the earliest episodes of Mako Mermaids, the student mermaids are creating tides - it's literally the first power move that they are being taught. They're using the moon's tides to create waves and they use this basic skill a lot to move boats, for example - all starting with the fundamental idea that tides are controlled by the gravity of the Moon.
So, that's cool and all, but I hear you asking what about the more complex stuff, like Charlotte literally making water snakes?
Well as good of a start as gravity is, we know that things are gonna start to get a bit more complicated as we dip our toes into advanced mermaids powers. From the mid-air drinking to the good ol' water snakes, this level of precision makes my gravity explanation feel a bit laughable, so scientifically there has to be something else layered on here that's gonna allow mermaids to control water more directly. The good news is that it's theoretically possible to control water not with hand waving or various CGI shots but with the powers of electromagnetism.
Now most of us are generally aware that water is electrically conductive but not necessarily for the reasons that we expect. It's not the water itself that's electrically conductive, it's actually the salts that exist within the water. Regardless though, it's the reason that you don't go swimming in a lightning storm or do your hair in a bathtub. It's because the salts within the water are super conductive and lightning, or electricity flowing from your wall socket, loves to run through it, and as a result, will also run through you if you happen to be swimming in it. But electrically charging water isn't gonna do anything to make it move, it just makes it more dangerous.
That's why mermaids also requires the magnet part of electromagnetism. If someone were to ask you if water's magnetic, most of us would say no, right? It doesn't contain any sort of iron or metal, and doesn't really seem to do anything when I wave my magnet at it. That's not entirely correct; the truth is that water is actually diamagnetic, meaning that any magnetic field, whether positively or negatively charged, is actually gonna repel water. So if you put a magnet near some water you'll see the water is being very slightly bent by the magnet, pushed away from the magnetic field. This is quite literally hydrokinesis at a microscopic level, where the magnetic fields are pushing the atoms of the water away. So theoretically speaking a mermaid could do the exact same thing by creating electromagnetic fields that are strong enough they can actually push the water away from herself, creating all the cool awesome moves that they do in the show.
Now if you're a physicist this explanation is gonna be pretty simplistic, but for our purposes it actually explains a lot of things that we see play out in the series. Mermaids rarely touch the water as they're manipulating it, which makes sense because the water is always being repelled from them, and the intricate curves and shapes that you see them making are coming from the electrical field that's applied to the water. Water molecules generally have a small negative electric charge, so by creating small electrical fields that are also negative (because like charges repel each other) mermaids could theoretically redirect the flow of the water midstream, creating swirls, shapes, bubbles, whatever they wanted, which is exactly what we see them creating with more and more precision over the course of the show.
Cleo's earlier moves focus on establishing an electromagnetic field for simple shapes, but once she learned to control the fields with greater precision, it's only a matter of time before she's water-spearing it up with her best of snakes and what not. We also know that we're specifically dealing with electromagnetism and not simply magnetism because of Rikki. Just like Cleo, Rikki is also a master of manipulation of electricity and charged particles.
Tumblr media
In season three, we see Rikki creating lighting on several occasions, and it's all based on the principle of generating an electrical current and directing it through the air. In theory, this same principle actually explains some of the weirder mermaid powers from Mako, including seaweed growing, or Zac's powers over Carly's vocal chords. All of which can be manipulated using electromagnetic fields. Create a strong enough field and you can bend a plant by bending all the water inside of it. By the same token you can bend a person if all the water in their organs and bloodstream are being pulled in one direction.
So electromagnetic manipulation explains a lot of mermaid powers, but it still leaves us with one big missing piece that I can't just make melt away: Emma and Bella's powers. These two's powers both involve significant phase shifting between water's states of matter, particularly liquid and solid. Ice or jello to water and vice versa. Emma's frost, the snow, even the rocks that Bella used to cross the stream - they are all valid techniques of mermaids not purely explained by electromagnetic fields. Or are they?
Tumblr media
The techniques that we've covered involve manipulating the motion of large groups of water molecules – puddles, lakes, ocean waves - but what if we wanted to manipulate motion on a smaller scale? In chemistry and physics, you learn about thermodynamics, and you find out that on the molecular scale the idea of temperature is really a measure of motion. Molecules are moving fast? Well, we perceive that as hot. That bowl of soup you got there is no different chemically whether it's hot or cold - it's just that the molecules in your hot soup are moving a lot and in your cold soup they're just kind of sluggish. The same goes with ice and water. Liquid water molecules move and flow and wiggle and have a good ol' water molecule time, but ice molecules are locked together in a crystal lattice structure, just like you see in snowflakes. There's still a tiny bit of movement there, like, they can kinda wiggle around in their framework, but the motion is much less than in liquid or gas phase. We know that mermaids have the ability to turn water from liquid to ice, so what are they really doing in those instances?
Tumblr media
Well, on a super small scale, they're manipulating water molecules to slow their individual movements, or, in physics terms, their kinetic energy. As they lose movement, they lose energy, becoming colder. If the mermaid is able to slow down the individual molecules enough they'll start to lock together into that crystal structure we call ice. The key is the use of those same electromagnetic fields to slow the movement of individual molecules to lock them in place. The same applies to viscosity. In everyday terms, viscosity is "thickness" or "internal friction" of a liquid. Thus, water is "thin", having a lower viscosity, while honey is "thick", having a higher viscosity. Put simply, the less viscous the fluid is, the greater its ease of movement (fluidity). By manipulating the water molecules and moving them closer, a mermaid like Bella could alter the viscosity of the water around her.
So basically, mermaids are just big ass magnets swimming the ocean. Which is a wonderful thing to think about in four in the morning instead of sleeping as I'm doing right now. Gn.

Hi! Long text incoming, sorry, but I just caught up with your latest not-at-all-an-actual-project 4433 AU idea, so for the h2o AU, regarding your poll: I definitely had to go for manipulating/moving water with Lewis but I'm thinking along the lines of the enhanced version from later on in the series, because, if I remember correctly, Cleo was also able to summon and control wind. So a mixture between moving water and the different option, really, because that would be cool, wouldn't it?
Personally, because that's come up, I've been obsessed with fantasy since I was a kid and never managed to grow out of that, which is why every single fiction!book in my room has at least some fantastical aspect to it - and why I love all kinds of AUs with supernatural elements. I also grew up with h2o so this is right up my alley, as you may notice. :D But I also think that these fantastical, crazy things can be really fun and revealing to play around with when enhancing actual character traits: Lewis is a deeply emotional person, maybe more so than a lot of the guys around him, yet in his "main environment" he's been made to feel like he has to conceal that more so than anyone else. So how would that translate into this supernatural setting, for someone who is very attuned to his emotions, has learned to not show them in a way others are carefree to do, this time because of his powers, yet also experiences them so strongly? It's just fun to investigate that struggle through this heightened lense.
I mean, basically I can't decide if I'd prefer him to have an iron grip on his powers that are linked to his emotions (he'd certainly try) or if I'd prefer him to, at least sometimes, slip, especially with Max around to witness. Just something to think about, I suppose? :D
see you get it, this IS a not-at-all-an-actual-project project! i am decisively Not working on it (but i am thinking about it a lot)
i think moving is the best for him indeed! especially with your explanation! he is not hotheaded the way rikki is to make boiling fit, he's not cool and collected and sometimes too rational to be emotional the way emma is to make freezing fit. so yeah, the sorta-telekenises works really nicely!
and the wind-thing, they really only did that for a few episodes in season 2, it was sooo random. but maybe it can tie into the full moon thing and be a side effect of the full moon? and yes, i certainly don't want him to have full control or whatever, i'd love it if he slips up! especially around max! suddenly a random bottle they weren't even close to falls from the table, or a tap explodes because lewis and max kissed and his heartbeat is through the roof.... so many good options.
your part about fantasy is a really nice read :) happy you find what you like <3 hope to see you in my inbox more n more often, do you want a nickname? i wanted to put h20 anon but there's a lot more suddenly lmao! what can i call you?
i love that lewis is indeed very much robot-ified in the sense that he can't always be open about his emotions, or can't even show them, so he lowkey trained himself to hide his feelings but he's not like that, so it can explode at random times, especially later in the story where max is bothered by lewis' insincerity due to him having to hide a part of himself, and then later when max knows, that they can work through it better. max teaching lewis to be more open about his feelings and not constantly adapt to others, lewis teaching max to be kinder and give people a shot.
thanks, love! <3 i really like your thoughts

emma's first time getting moonstruck: is rude to her father's party guests, gets a little handsy with byron, eats a ton of fish
cleo's first time getting moonstruck: gains siren powers and sings to a bunch of teenage boys
rikki's first time getting moonstruck: burns emma with her powers, sets half of mako on fire, literally roasts zane from the inside out, near insists on being left alone on a desert island which is still somewhat on fire, loses consciousness almost entirely in the moon pool, has an actual mental breakdown,
#that's on being a traumatized teenage girl i guess!#i like how for emma and cleo the first time they get moonstruck their personalities sort of change to the opposite of what they usually are#so emma is normally quite controlled and disciplined but during her dad's party she is rude and acts out and is completely out of control#cleo at least in season one is pretty shy and withdrawn so she becomes a siren who is at the centre of everyone's attention which she loves#for as long as the moon spell lasts at least#but then for rikki... god. i don't even know. so much goes on in bad moon rising it's hard to even pin down what the writers were going for#it's pure chaos and i mean that in a good way#like presumably the rikki in the show does share those insecurities and a part of her believes she is a malevolent and destructive person#who deserves to be alone. but then her powers are out of control AND she kisses zane and it's like. what were they even going for here?#because her expressing her neuroses and anxieties is probably a manifestation of how she truly feels. but her kissing zane almost comes out#of nowhere. and then we know she's freaking out about setting everything on fire and highkey is hating herself in the moment#but then in the last scene when she's talking about her kissing zane on mako she's like something weird happened. something out of control.#which makes me feel like *shifty eyes emoji*#can i again just talk about how much i hate that all the girls kiss their love interests under the influence of the full moon.#but also when cleo's like 'i don't even want to THINK about what rikki would do to zane under the influence of the full moon' lollllllll#.txt#h2o just add water#h2o#h2o: just add water#cleo sertori#emma gilbert#rikki chadwick

watching the h2o animated spin off on netflix when they introduce this side character called abby who is meant to be a bit of a journalism nerd which is cute. and then it occurred to me that there are no major girl characters outside of the big three on the og series who aren't at least somewhat antagonistic (see: miriam, tiffany, charlotte, sophie). even in the animated series emma's swim team friends are super catty. and then like two episodes later they refute abby being this like potential ally to the girls who is also a bit nerdy by making her sneaky and suspicious and gossipy
like. it just makes me sad that in a show which ostensibly propagates 'girl power' and the power of friendship that the only true allies to the girls are their boyfriends. cleo's little sister kim is a pest, while elliot is more sympathetic and closer with emma. even in the cartoon miriam is there stirring shit and vying for byron's attention. i guess the one exception to this is miss chatham, but she disappears after season one and is replaced by max, a man. i just feel like there was so much potential to have even a casual friend of the girls outside the main trio, but the writers chose to prioritise the girls's relationships with boys instead
#'okay but then this side character would get close to the girls and want to become a mermaid/the audience would expect her to become a merm'#i hear you say. and i have to disagree. i'm not even talking about someone who is as close to the girls as lewis or zane or even ash or wil#just someone who is an ally to the girls without being too close to the secret. a friend of emma's from the juicenet or the swim team?#cleo's biology partner in class? a girl who works down at the garage with rikki's dad? even a redeemed tiffany in season two who likes to#hang with nate and zane sometimes but who isn't a rival to rikki for zane's affections?#not asking for a lot here lmao#like i love a female villain to pieces. but denman having to be talked down by harrison who is the competent intelligent and rational man t#her incompetent woman. and then the same goes for sophie when ryan pulls out of the mako project and she has to be talked down by will and#zane. the writers really can't help but stuff a female rivalry or six into every other episode#(see: miriam and cleo. miriam and rikki. miriam and emma. tiffany and cleo. charlotte and basically all of the girls but especially cleo.#sophie and bella. sophie and rikki)#the stuff with denman is different because it's more occupational but they do spend a lot of time presenting her as this romantic rival to#cleo which is fucking gross for so many reasons#this is the one thing mako mermaids got (sort of?) right? like i don't think they knew what to do with evie for the first season or two#but she and carly as allies to the mermaids was a great concept. and then the focus on the mermaids and their pod was also good. even if#they forced a ton of unnecessary heterosexuality in there too. and we had a male protagonist 🤢#h2o just add water#h2o#h2o: just add water#.txt#misogyny
