Episode 5 costume details.
In previous episodes, Pat has worn t-shirts and tops with pink or red writing over his chest - perhaps hinting at his guilt/sorrow towards Pran. However, in episode 5 - when he is working up to his oh moment and realising his romantic feelings for Pran - he wears three different items of clothing with red detailing over his heart.
The first is the strongest, when he has his oh moment, although it’s somewhat hidden under his shirt because of the newly surfacing emotions. 🧐
Tumblr media
Then for the flash back, they could have just been wearing their school uniform - did they need an additional costume option here? Well, yes, if you see the red insignia over Pat’s heart. 😍
Tumblr media
And then the Pineapple shirt at the end, with a fully blossomed orange/red flower over his heart after Pat’s feelings for Pran has...well...fully blossomed. 😭💖🌺
Tumblr media
The 👏🏼 costumes 👏🏼 choices 👏🏼 are 👏🏼 Magnificent 👏🏼

speaking of jealousy and wai i do wonder what exactly that part of the trailer where he pushes pat back and asks if he’s looking for pran is about. you could guess it’s just wai not wanting pran to be talked to by one of the engineering guys but at this point they’ve made a truce and it would make sense for the two leaders of the group to be in contact? so i’m wondering where exactly this reaction from wai is coming from like is he protecting pran bc pat did something wrong maybe idk.
also pat and wai were about fight each other at the rugby games in the trailer and my current prediction for that is they’re either fighting specifically over pran OR (which i think is more likely) pat’s being a bitch to him bc his jealousy stars so he’s giving snide remakes to wai and then they try to figure bc of them riling each other up so it’s still bc of pran they’re fighting but only bc pat is being an ass to him out of jealousy maybe. like the engineering and architecture guys are calling a truce but i have a feeling pat is going to start to feel a whole new dislike specifically for wai soon
ok, so in general i think that we are actually far from having made a truce because at present pat had to literally lie and use the engineers' dislike of architecture students to convince them to help them. and considering the preview for the next episode, we can see that there is still a lot of tension. and to be honest, i don't know when a truce will happen, but i assume somewhere around the time when pat and pran's friends either figure out or are told how close they are. considering the fact that they are both "leaders" of the groups, their relationship should work like glue. but so far, i am working under the assumption that they are reluctant allies at best.
in that case, in terms of the first moment, here it is:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's presented in the context of "why are you sneaking around?" and i always supposed that it was just pran's friends finally figuring out that pran and pat are close, while they are still pretending not to be. they are supposed to be hiding around, but with time they will definitely become more obvious, especially to their friends, and i feel like this is just built up frustration from that and a final sort of "ok, what the fuck is going on here?", which is what i think will lead to pat and pran telling at least pran's friend group about them (in what context it will be at that point - whether platonic or romantic - we shall see).
as for the second moment (apologies for the messy screenshots jfkgjfdlkjgjdf), here it is:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and from it, i definitely get the vibes of pat suddenly attacking wai. because (as it might not be very clear from the screenshots), if you rewatch this moment in the trailer itself (it's at 2:40), you will see that pat rushes towards wai, and i personally feel like wai just sort of pushes him away rather than it being a two-way conflict. this, i feel, is also supported by the fact that not only is no one dragging wai away from pat, but pat's friends are also actually dragging him away from wai, which considering everything that we know about pat's friend group, he must be acting incredibly unreasonably at this moment if they find it necessary to stop him. all of this makes me think that this is because of pat's (unfounded) jealousy towards wai.
i don't think they will ever be fighting over pran, for two reasons:
first of all, it would not make sense for wai to have a crush on pran just because the series simply has no time to end this kind of an arc in a satisfying way and it could serve no purpose to the story because the only character who could benefit from such a storyline would be wai, and - no offense - but he is very much a background character, and they don't have the time nor the incentive to explore his character in depth.
second of all, the space that wai takes up in the narrative is very similar to pa's at this point, except wai is to pran what pa is to pat, and he is perhaps not as knowledgeable and not as intentional in his role. however, considering the fact that they continue using him as a sort of push for pran to think about him and pat (he is the one who asks about the secret crush, he is the one who convinces pran to go to the rooftop, he is the one who narrates the whole romeo and juliet thing), it's very clear that his narrative role is to be someone who offers one of the main characters some much-needed perspective.

Ok so thots on Bad buddy ep 9
1) Korn my love. My knight in shining armour. My quail in ponytail. My dumbass with sass. My sweetie with a patootie. I love you Korn. And drake 👉🏽👈🏽🥺 pls rail me
2) Ohm sexy guns in navy top makes me wanna squeeze.
3) i would once again like to point out how fuc*in happy pran looks when he's with Pat. How can his "friends" see that and NOT support them together????
4) everyone including me , is pissed off af Pran's group of friends but I'm trying to be patient coz they're at most , 18 years old and we do stupid shit when we're young that we'll come to regret coz of the scale of the stupid when we're older. I hope wai and the rest of them realise how much wrong they were in.
5) i speak from experience but juniors doing fucked up shit coz of their seniors rivalry is real. Like seniors do think they own the place and they do try to keep out some people from their own batchmates' social circles. Some of the things these shows potray are so close to asian college life like 🥲 Take SOTUS for example.
6) When they both said "Not yet" , i guffawed so LOUD at 3.00 in the morning , I'm sure i woke up my friend passed out in the next room.
6) also i thought they were gonna do it this episode , i opened instagram before watching and the black and white pic popped open like ohm staaaaahpppp
7) inkpa endgame bitches.
8) pls i want waikorn to happen and korn to actually ask wai in a very disappointed but not surprised voice "Why did you do that to him? But i guess hurting people who love you comes easy to you doesn't it??" about their own conflicts and then watch the burn of pain flash in Wai's eyes. I wanna see wai suffer .
9) Also please let their first time after a rain soaked walk session 🥺👉🏽👈🏽Imagine young love Patpran wet and running up the stairs 😭😭
10) I'm not talking about the "fruit basket" that is Pran's room. So that also means the bi sweatshit by our darling Korn is also intentional ofc.
11) Did i mention inkpa endgame ???
12) Fuck dem parents .
13) I was sad during that one episode when korn was barely there. I loved every second of him on screen like Yessssss!! Go best friendddd☺️❤️✌🏽
14) like not only wai , Pran's other friends are shits too. I need you all to litter the hate don't just focus it on wai coz these dipshits kept quiet.
15) angry footballer guy from opp team is hot.
16) I've noticed this many times but Ohm is such a fine fine actor. His eyes are capable of looking like a sad puppy and its will squeeze our heart but then he gets angry and then we'll melt into a pile of scared goo at his feet. It's just so so so sexy of him. Such a talent.
17) also , that guy who hurt Pat. Wait till you get found out son. The architecture and engineering gang will prolly leave you at Pran's mercy. And it would be worse for you.
18) someone said imagine pran turning up to the hospital with bruised knuckles abd you know what?? I can also imagine that fu*ker turning up in the icu with a very heavily bandaged head.
19) korn . Korn holding back Pat , wai , pat. Korn sexy , pat sexy. Wai you stupid vitch sit yo ass down.
20) inkpa height difference cuuuuute , also endgame
And side note for P,aof , as much as i like to believe that I'm as cool and suave as pat , I'm actually a smol bean like Pran and i got fuckin scared to death when those Engineering idiots said Pat's serious i almost started to cryyyy😭😭😭😭 Don't scare me like that 😭

BAD BUDDY EPISODE 9 – IN DEFENSE OF WAI
Tumblr media
In this episode, Director Backaof took us on a trip into trope-stomping territory, and allowed us to see more relationship growth between Pat and Pran. But really, this episode belongs to Wai and his development (with a tiny bit of screentime for Korn’s as well).
It’s significant that Episode 9 opens with a somewhat Rashomon-esque re-telling of Episode 8’s backstage reveal, seen from Wai’s point of view.  In this, it parallels the confrontation between the Archi and Engineering gangs at Ep.1 [3I4] 7.37, that at first looks like out-and-out warfare, but is then shown again from PatPran’s point of view at Ep.1 [4/4] 0.22, re-told with their behind-the-scenes deal to dial back the confrontation.  At the start of Episode 9, we are reminded to look at things from Wai’s POV, and it isn’t an easy thing to do.
One of the recurring themes in the whole series is that of conflict, and we see it everywhere – between PatPran as children, their families, their faculties, and their respective groups of friends.  The theme is also relevant to both Korn and Wai.  Korn’s character growth spurt happens a bit too abruptly, at Ep.9 [1I4] 9.03–10.00 (done in less than a minute! 🤷‍♂️), but he learns from Pat’s other two bros that in conflict situations, aligning with one side doesn’t mean having to hate the other.  And that being neutral doesn’t have to mean staying out of things either.
Tumblr media
Korn’s realization and redemption are really too rushed, but I suppose this brief journey is meant more as a counterpoint and preface, setting the scene, for Wai’s developmental arc.
There are (were?) many Wai-haters out there, and it’s true he can be a bit of a jerk.  But I think we need to give the guy a break.  His is not an easy life to inhabit, trying to make ends meet as a waiter while coping with architectural course workload, on top of keeping the (rugby?) scholarship that he needs.  To those who say he’s insufficiently supportive of Pran – he never knew Pran was secretly carrying a torch for Pat, and anyway with so much on his plate, how much more of himself did he have to give?  When it’s the story of your life, you need to play the starring (not supporting) role, and Wai was struggling to do his right.  Let’s not forget the entire SERIES began not with Pat or Pran, but with Wai, alone and being hunted down by the Engineering gang (Ep.1 [1I4] 0.45).  Which takes us to the start of Episode 9 seen from Wai’s POV – in his struggle to cope with just getting by, Wai’s conflict had always been not so much with rival teams, gangs or faculties, but rather with the world at large.  If you were not on Team Wai, you were automatically the enemy, which is why Pran’s growing alignment with Pat was seen as so much betrayal by Wai, and explains his petty revenge in the control room (Ep.9 [1I4] starting from 4.21) and his inability to be a selfless team player during rugby (at the end of Ep.9 [1I4] and at Ep.9 [2/4] starting at 8.26).
Perhaps it was his realization that CCTV cameras capture situations from many angles, or perhaps it was the policemen only seeing Pat’s situation from one angle (and drawing wrong conclusions from it at Ep.9 [4/4] 2:29), but we see Wai slowly coming to his senses and allowing himself a break from his self-focused life to see others outside Team Wai as potential allies and friends.  And Wai learns not just to accept Pat’s selflessness for the gift that it is, he also learns reciprocity.  It is perhaps significant that Wai’s lightbulb moment happens in front of a giant mural of a human face, at the club where he waits tables (Ep.9 [4/4] 4:29) – the eyes on the wall appear to be looking at something far off in the distance, as though beseeching us to look beyond the immediate (although I’m not sure they would paint a whole mural just for this! 😉).
Tumblr media
And that is when Wai pivots to look at the CCTV camera, and begins to see himself as others see him (emphasized by the shot of Wai looking upon his recorded self at Ep.9 [4/4] 4:53).
Tumblr media
So Wai’s moment of self-awareness next brings about his redemption and personal growth, for in adopting another point of view (that those not with you may not necessarily be against you), he finds the proof to exonerate Pat and return the selflessness shown to him.
TLDR… ;) In this episode, we get to see some BL trope-stomping and more development in PatPran’s relationship.  But it’s Wai who sees the most personal growth, and in the process, properly introduces us to his character – flawed and complex, but ultimately one who is worthy of redemption and respect. 👍
PS For a parallel scene where the characters were wracked with turmoil due to their own limited, misaligned points of view – take a look again at the fight scene in Ep.5 [4/4], starting at 2.20 (analysis linked here). EVERYONE there is looking at each other but seeing different things.  Wai thinks he’s in a fight because Pat is sore that Engineering lost the Freshy Day song contest to Architecture. Pran (still thinking Pat is in love with Ink) believes Pat is drunk and (possibly) upset because Pran used the song they co-wrote without consulting him. But Pat is really upset because he’s jealous – he’d only just realized his feelings for Pran, but from his POV he thinks Pran has a romantic situation going on with Wai. Chaos and confusion reign because each is only seeing the situation based on his own understanding of the truth.

Signs that Safe might be the Best Boy™ and a voice of reason of the architecture group.
His name is “Safe”, to start with, what more do I need to say?
At the very beginning, Safe interrupts Pran in a pastel mint green checked shirt (foreshadowing Pat and Pran’s eventual relationship). He brings news that Wai is getting beaten up and effectively instigates the initial fated meeting between our protagonists.
Tumblr media
In the faculty fight at the end of  episode 1, Safe is the only one from either group NOT in faculty colours (not including white here). In a sea of red, he stands out in shades of blue - indicating his future support of Pat, perhaps.
Tumblr media
In episode 2, when the friends are discussing the mystery person flirting with Pran - and that there’s nothing wrong with it being a man - Safe is in a beigey/yellow shirt with threads of blue and red woven in the plaid pattern (need I say more?). He also wears this shirt in the lecture after the destruction of the bus stop, when Pat is trying to reconcile with Pran again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When the engineering students are all knocking on Pran’s door, Safe has a blue checked shirt - again potentially foreshadowing his eventual support.
Tumblr media
When the engineering students come to help the architecture group with the bus stop build, Safe is the one to stop Wai from protesting the ‘truce’ - already showing that he can play the voice of reason.
Tumblr media
Then, in the negotiations for how the work will take place, Safe is in another checked shirt with blue, red and yellow.
Tumblr media
During the bus stop build, he also wears a yellow shirt, although he is asking whether they can trust the engineering guys to put in the same effort (which they don’t at first)...but I’ll still take this sign.
Tumblr media
In the heightened tension of the bar scene before the fight with Pat, Pran, and Wai, we see Safe in a dark blue & red shirt.
Tumblr media
And lastly, he didn’t go on the beach trip with the rest of the group, so he wasn’t part the group wanting to beat up Pat - just a filming schedule issue or a deliberate ploy to keep Safe away from the antagonism so that he can step up and be the support Pran needs later...? Well, we’ll see what happens in episode 8 and onwards!

Thoughts on the costuming of Bad Buddy (a thread*)
Episode 5:
In the beginning, Pat keeps Pran’s olive green “Friend/Unfriend” t-shirt (@pixies-made-me-do-it wrote a great post about this) to meet with Pran but Ink turns up and interrupts their ‘lovey-dovey’ moment. The green stripes on her top could signify how she is an obstacle to Pat and Pran in that moment...but since the stripes aren’t big, she’s not a bigger obstacle to their relationship in general.
Tumblr media
Then! We get Pa in pink for the first time (not in blue or white)! And this is when she’s explaining her four tests to see if someone likes you...which Pat then uses on himself before his beautiful oh moment. Perhaps this is foreshadowing her support for Pat and Pran’s relationship (and showing where her actual loyalty lies...not with Pat/Ink).
Tumblr media
More Ink and Pa...this time they are coordinated on their ‘date’ in the pancake shop. Both wearing orange and blue colours.
Tumblr media
Pat also has a blue shirt on and for when he bumps into Pran in the music shop for his oh moment. And it’s no wonder he realises he likes Pran...there’s a sign directly over his heart.
Tumblr media
And of course Pran was wearing blue for that meeting.
Tumblr media
Later, when Pat goes to Pran’s dorm to figure out if he’s jealous...well, it’s obvious he would be since Pran is in green! Cue feeling bad!
Tumblr media
And the next scene, Pat’s now changed into green as he contemplates his feelings for Pran vs Ink (or just Pran at this point).
Tumblr media
Then we get matching colours for them - first in the music performance, where they’re both in blue (and Ink in purple - a mix of their red and blue showing her support of their feelings for each other and their relationship), and then the bar/fight outside the dorm, where they both wear blue with brown/orange hints - indicating they are moving closer to some kind of connection. And as @casualavocados pointed out in their post, Pat even has a brown/orange flower over his heart.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then for the final scene (where I still am to this day, probably), Pat is wearing a rich dark red and dark blue whilst Pran is in a light blue. The intensity of the colours perhaps showing the intensity of their feelings in that moment. (@pixies-made-me-do-it also wrote about Pat’s “Baseball Mom” top in her post, linked above). At the very end, the red lettering across Pat’s chest almost blends into the dark blue of the t-shirt, maybe representing his desire now for him and Pran to become a couple out in the open...BUT Pran’s mum is going to have a big role in whether that can happen, hence the big white lettering.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other points to note:
In the school flashback, Pat and Pran are wearing white t-shirts with an orange trim and a red detailed school insignia over the heart - that’s three red details over Pat’s heart in one episode! (I wrote a whole other post just about these three red details because it felt so significant).
Tumblr media
Green clothing in general. In the bar scene and the fight outside the dorm, Wai is in a green t-shirt (do I need to say more?!). In the bar, he is directly between Pat and Pran, a physical barrier representing all the difficulties in their way to be able to have a relationship. @leenasfavs also wrote a great post about the fight scene and how the space is divided into blue (around Pat) and green (around Wai) - further cementing my theory that whenever the green is worn by someone it represents emotional or physical obstacles for Pat and Pran’s relationship.
I’ll end on a more positive note... Despite the animosity between the groups in the bar, they are mixing the blues and reds between them (or at least the engineering are doing well...it’s just Safe from architecture who has some blue in his plaid shirt - perhaps showing that the engineering group will support Pat and Pran before the architecture group). Yay for the support they will eventually give our couple!

Thoughts on the costuming of Bad Buddy (a thread*)
Episode 9:
Honestly, I'm glad we've had two weeks between episodes because I've been able to take my time with all my analysis posts this week. I've already done the details, Ink and Pa's colours and the moment of their feet, Pat's shirt, the framing of the play's bows (addressing Pran's first outfit) and the peppermint inhaler...so that leaves a few of Pat and Pran's outfits and the friends.
At lunch, Pran wears a brown and white striped t-shirt during a moment when both sacrifice or yield something about themselves to the other - Pat offers to say they've broken up, him being the heartbroken one, so that Wai would talk to Pran, and Pran sacrifices not only that possibility to reconcile with Wai but also sheds some of his fears of showing pda by holding Pat's hand out in the open. The yellowy/orange drinks are a nice touch - with the theory that yellow signifies their love and happiness - and it's feels significant that Pat uses them to indirectly compliment Pran.
Tumblr media
I wrote about the engineers' lunch scene after seeing the preview - I stood my ground with my prediction that the engineering group would support Pat and Pran before the architecture group (that mint green hat was my thin thread!) and I was right💪🏼. Even though Pat was turned away by Korn, we soon discovered they felt pressured to ostracise Pat because of the faculty rivalry when he found Pat and apologised.
And then the wonderful bedroom scene (for many reasons) - which I've also touched on - but it has the two faculty jackets hanging side-by-side again, Pran's blue bedsheets (Pat's colour), Pran's pink top (his own colour), all the important colours on Pat's stripy boxer shorts, and the three lights on the wall - alluding to the gay man flag, the bisexual flag, and the pansexual flag. Chef's kiss! (Btw, I'm Nong Nao in this scene - overwhelmed by it all 🙃)
Tumblr media
Later, the engineering group wear a mix of blue (for themselves) - Cheng's blue shirt and the blue on Pat's - and also teal - Mo and Korn's tops, which could possibly be a connection to the mint green (I still haven't settled on this yet)...BUT ALSO look at Korn's magnificent sleeveless top - perhaps a little nod to all the sleeveless tops Pat wears, especially since Korn *ahem* 'jokes' that he has a crush on a guy from architecture too. And I love the blue lights in the background.
Then in the hospital, Korn is in full-on bisexual flag colours, Mo is again in blue but interestingly Pran is also wearing blue - the only time this episode he does - representing and supporting Pat but also showing how close he's become to the engineering friends.
Tumblr media
Ah, Pat's shirt. I've already written about it here but in summary (because it is GLORIOUS) it has the red of Pran, his own blue, the yellow in the bridge and the lights (signifying their love and happiness), and the bridge itself symbolising how Pat is the bridge between the two faculties...as well as simply being an iconic image of the power of collaboration between architecture and engineering.
Wait...I need a moment...
Tumblr media
Okay, I'm back...and on to the architecture *ahem* 'friends'. Oh Safe, my darling Safe, I still have hopes for you being the Best Boy of architecture...but you weren't this episode. It took a while for Safe and Louis to reconcile with Pran (thank god for the power of ball sports!) but the slight minty green in Louis' top and Pran's yellow shirt maybe indicated that friendship would prevail in this scene. (ALSO...now that there's a theory about Louis and Safe perhaps being a secret couple, maybe this mint green alludes to that!!!). I've already written about the holiday reference of Pran's t-shirt (the episode was broadcast on Christmas eve) but note also the red and blue of the sign behind.
On to the café scene, Wai and Safe are in their own faculty colour but Pat's blue is represented in Pran's bag on the table. Pran is now in an angsty green shirt as he worries about Pat and the police, and Louis is in a minty-grey perhaps signifying that things would work out (look I know I'm pushing it but I don't care at this point...or is it because of him and Safe?!? I just don't know anymore 😂). Btw, I think Wai took waaaaaay too long to realise about the cctv but *shrugs* drama.
Tumblr media
At first, I was confused about the timeline of Wai's realisation of the cctv and then looking at the video - I wondered if he changed out of the first light brown shirt and into the yellow at the end of his shift...or whether he waited a-whole-ass-other day to look at the video footage... But then I realised he probably took the footage home to watch because it looks like his dorm room (the same chair and desk/computer can be seen in ep 6 pt 1). I was a little bit hopeful with Wai first in light brown - signifying that he will yield and help Pat in the end - and then in yellow, feeling as though he wouldn't do anything bad whilst wearing something that potentially signified Pat and Pran's love and happiness...but he was also being a First Grade Prick™ so I was still a little bit on tenterhooks.
Tumblr media
And then, look! Wai's in BLUE at the end. He's come round, he's apologised...wait...what?! The [redacted] still hasn't apologised? And PAT apologised to HIM! smh...
Anyway, I've already written about the black, white, and green of Pat and Pran's clothes...that they could be a nod back to Ink and Pa's sandals and Pa's colour. I also LOVED that the hospital signs are mint green. Oh the coincidence.
Tumblr media
The black and white of Pran's top could also be interpreted as being neutral - which might show how Pran will manage to get away from the encounter with Pat's parents unscathed and with his relationship to Pat still concealed. I wrote about the red in a reply to an ask...but in short, it could be read as a warning or danger to Pran, or perhaps it’s indicating that Pat’s family will accept Pat and Pran’s relationship sooner than Pran’s family (as with the engineering vs architecture friends). I also like that both Pa and Pat's mum have both Pat and Pran's colours in their outfits…but Pat's mum also has the dreaded angst-foreshadowing forest green on her skirt. It’s not going to be smooth-sailing but I think they’ll come around sooner rather than later.
Tumblr media
Anything I've not included in this post, I probably have in the other posts linked at the top. And as always here are the past episodes:

Thoughts on the costuming of Bad Buddy (a thread*)
Episode 8 (3/3): The Friends
There's so much I want to write about this week that I've had to break it down into three different posts: one for Ink and Pa; one for Pat and Pran; and one about the Friends. But here's the Friends,
Ooof, this feels like a difficult one to write about...I might get rambly and predictive rather than reflective...but I'll do my best to be succinct. I'm going to start at the end of the episode and Wai in the lighting/sound booth. At first glance Wai's t-shirt looked to be a light shade of green - signifying that he's potentially an obstacle to Pat and Pran's happiness, the cause of conflict - BUT I believe it's actually a pastel/baby blue (and therefore indicating that he's not as bad as he seems 🤞🏽 haha...ha...h...🤡). Hear me out...
Tumblr media
Earlier in the episode Pran is in the lighting/sound booth in his sandy coloured top with what looks like green stripes (on the right below - note the dark green headphones too). Aha!, I thought, it's because he's hearing the gossip about Pat and who he might be dating from the people on stage - cue conflict and angst. But later, both times when Pran is backstage speaking with Pat, the stripes are actually a dark blue (on the left below, and even looked black at times). What's my take on this? Well, I think the light in the sound/lighting booth has a green hue to it, changing the colours of the clothes. Why is this important?
Tumblr media
Well, Wai in a pale blue actually suggests a support of Pat (and therefore Pran's relationship to him) whether that's now or in the future. It's a weak support, at best, and something has made him drop the curtain to reveal Pat and Pran's relationship...but I'll get back to this in a moment.
Earlier in the episode, when he's looking for Pa and then drinking with Pran, Wai is also in blue (in fact it's the only colour he wears this episode)...but this time it's a richer, brighter shade. There's even a lovely blue light in the fridge to the left of him. (Note also the beautiful lighting behind Pran as he talks - with the red, blue, and mint green lights to his right and the yellow to his left. I love the way Pran is still managing to smile through his reflections about how exhausting their secret relationship is...because, even though he says it's something he tries to avoid, his expression says otherwise. 💛)
Tumblr media
Now, here's my (clown) theory: If the rumour is true that Wai was the one to see Pat and Pran in the car earlier, then he might have used the conversation outside the uni to test Pran about his feelings for Pat (by threatening to beat Pat up). Then in the bar, whilst Pran talks about how difficult it would be to date Pa, Wai would know Pran's really talking about the difficulties he's facing in dating Pat. I think (again clowning here) that Wai might actually feel sympathy for Pran and want to help him but isn't sure how. (I would love it if he had actually said to Pran here, "hey man, I know about you and Pat, why don't you talk to me about it" but I don't think he did [silly boy]). Anyway, Wai might potentially reason for himself that revealing Pat and Pran's secret relationship would actually relieve this pressure that Pran feels (not condoning this btw - he was wrong no matter the reason) and enable Pran to live freer. So, I don't think Wai dropped the curtain out of spite or hatred. And adding on to that, I don't think he'll be the one to tell Pran's mum. This is because at some point we will get this:
Tumblr media
We get Squad Goals™. The architecture and engineering groups uniting together. And this can only happen if whatever reason Wai has to drop the curtain is acceptable enough for Pran (and Pat) to forgive him (which might not be acceptable to us, because no one should out someone else, do I need to keep saying it?)...so I don't think Wai can be that bad. Btw, I also noticed in the credits that these two moments (below) of each group separately might be just before they meet and join up (above) since they're all in exactly the same clothes:
Tumblr media
Wai is still very much in favour with Pran, so I don't think he is an out-and-out villain. He's mis-guided, perhaps, but I think he's done what he's done out of somewhat good intentions (again, not saying it was ok) and I cannot wait to find out what his excuse is. 🤨 @thecookiemonster77 wrote a theory about how the fallout from dropping the curtain might be that Wai becomes gradually isolated from his friends (in a parallel to Pat and Pran becoming accepted) and I like the potential of scenario...but as I've already said, he will eventually be forgiven and brought back into the unified squad.
Now for the other friends. We don't see much of them this episode, just for the rugby practice and at the end when some are suspiciously in the theatre for the reveal. The trailer for episode 9 suggests Pat and Pran will have a hard time with their friends...but I hope their clothes are actually foreshadowing the opposite. Safe and Louis are in both Pran and Pat's colours - Safe in red, and Louis in blue stripes. I've already written about my predictions (or hope) that Safe will be the Best Boy™ of architecture and the voice of reason for the group 🤞🏽 so let's hope they will be supportive.

Korn is also in blue with a bit of pink. He looks taken aback, curious, a little shocked...but despite the ominous dark green t-shirt, I don't think he's going to ostracise Pat like the preview suggests.

First, my prediction was right that the engineering group was going to be supportive of Pat hitting on someone from architecture when they found out. In episode 8 they're in red and pink when grilling Pat and they say that Pat's "so cool" and that they "admire him so much". Sounds pretty positive...

However, in the preview it seems Korn has done a one-eighty - telling Pat that only engineers can sit and that "no outsiders allowed". I'm hoping here that Korn is just teasing Pat and we're being fed a big ole fat red herring. Why is this? Well, going off previous previews, we can't trust a single thing we see/hear but also...I can't help but notice the mint green cap the girl is wearing in the background. A very thin thread, admittedly, but I'm hanging on to it for dear life until I'm proven otherwise 😂🤡

So, circling back to Wai and Pran... Next week there will be animosity between them but they will have to work together on the play. It's interesting that both are in black t-shirts here (Wai's is under a white shirt) - one of the first times Pran has worn black (Wai has worn black with another colour a few times already). And before anyone says, I know it's customary in theatre for technicians/backstage personal to wear black...but it has also been set up in the story so that Pran can wear black here - perhaps symbolising how dark he feels about the situation, how overwhelmed and heavy.

Anyway, whatever is going on I do think there is a lot about the situation we don't know, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for 'good intentions manifested badly' rather than 'outright spite and dickery'. 🤞🏽🙏🏽✨🤡
