the creaking of the front door didn’t alarm you, knowing it was your boyfriend after a long day of promotions. you knew he had been on his way, you just didn’t know he’d be here so soon. on your face sat an animal themed face mask and on your feet a foiled foot mask, with only five minutes left for each as a horror film played on the television. as the footsteps approached closer, your eyes stared out to the door frame and stared at the groggy man with a full face of makeup and tired eyes that widened at your state.
his lips upturned at sight in front of him, the smile weak but facial expression entertained. tossing his bag to the designated corner, he drags his feet into the bathroom and grabs some makeup cleaner, a washcloth, and plops down next to you. you just stare at him, a small grin on your lips. “you look cute.” he says as he looks up to you, moving his body so his head is laying in your lap. “is that a panda?”
nodding, you place a quick peck to his lips. “you look tired, baby. how was work?” you lean over to start taking the foil masks off your feet, rubbing to excess into them and tossing the masks into the trash bin next to the nightstand as chenle tells you about his day. when you turn your head, you notice him holding the cleansing balm and washcloth out towards you. tilting your head for the dramatics with a smile, you look between him and the items. “what’s this for?”
“can you wash off my makeup for me, please?” an exaggerated pout makes way onto his face, earning a small chuckle from you. soft moments like this with chenle happened every so often. your relationship was very playful and fun, the soft moments came and went but the love was always there and never questioned. but whenever either of you were ever this vulnerable with one another you never batted an eye, just went along with it.
opening up the banila cleansing balm, you take out the scrapper and start putting small amounts of it throughout his face. his eyes flutter shut, enjoying this small moment between you two. the sound of the terrifier 2 plays in the background, the vulgar noises going through one ear and out the other. you focus on making sure you get each part of his face but avoiding his eyes so as to not irritate them, watching all the colors mix together on his face as they melt into an oil mixture. wetting the wash cloth with your water bottle, you bring it to his face and start washing off the oil and making sure there’s no excess.
as you begin to wash off the oil, chenle’s eyes open back up to watch the process. his eyes watch you focus with your bottom lip out in a pout, eyes slightly squinted as you make sure to get every inch and not stain the new pillow cases you just bought last week. once you announce you’re finished, he slides off the bed lazily and tosses his clothes into the hamper. as he does so, you finally take off your face mask and throw it into the trash bin and soak the rest of it into your skin. as you tossed the mask into the garbage, you felt chenle wrap his arms around your waist and lay his head back in your lap.
when you looked down at him all he wore was his boxers and a basketball tee, his eyes still tired but grin still exuding happiness. you automatically wrap your arms around him, confused but allowing it to happen. “what’s gotten into you tonight?” you tease, causing him to look up at you.
“谢谢.” was all he said, his grin turning into a tired smile before placing a kiss to your thigh.
“i’m your partner, you don’t need to thank me.” you reply, placing your lips on his quickly before pulling him into his spot on the bed next to you.
he allows you to do so, secretly enjoying it anyway. the movie is long forgotten at this point but you don’t forget to make a mental note to rewatch it tomorrow when you have the time. you move the blanket so it’s on top of both of you and your boyfriend and allow him to cuddle up next to you, your arm wrapping around him and hand landing in his hair to play with his now messy strands.
“rough day?” you asked as he played with your shirt, his head on your chest and his breathing becoming slower. you can tell he could fall asleep any second now, but you always wanted to make sure he got everything off his chest he needed to so he didn’t sleep with anything heavy on his mind.
he moved his head up and down as if in a nodding motion. “yeah, just a lot of dance practices and interviews.” he lets out a deep sigh against your skin, causing a shiver to run up your spine as the ending credits roll from the end of the film. his one leg intertwines with yours, wanting to become even closer as he continues on about his day. “i finally have a day off tomorrow though, so that’s good.”
humming in agreement, you look down at him and press a small kiss to the top of his head. “about time.” you sink your body further down into the mattress, feeling your eyes getting heavy as well. as you reach over and turn off the nightstand light, you continue with your sentence. “my little koala has been working hard lately.”
although exhausted, chenle’s head shoots up and his eyes shoots daggers at you. his nose scrunches in disgust, hating the stupid nickname. “i hated that so much.” he pecks your lips before resting his head on your chest again, cuddling back into your warmth. “you’re lucky i love you.”
you roll your eyes, adjusting yourself in a position to get comfortable for bed. “yeah yeah, you love my stupid nicknames.” you feel him tap your side with his thumb two times, signaling something. “what?”
“you didn’t say it back.”
“chenle. you know i love you too.”
“just say it back, please. so i can go to bed.”
“i love you too.”
“good.”
even when half asleep he’s extremely stubborn.

Join The Digital Age - Spencer x Streamer! Fem! Reader
So I had an idea of what Spencer would be like reacting to various different video games, what better way to react to games than with a significant other who is a know twitch streamer/gamer type! If people don't like the streamer route, I'll probably change it to just a casual gamer thing! This will probably be a fun little miniseries I write while I'm working on my longer Spencer series so the chapters on this might not be super long... Anyway! Enjoy! Xxx

Coming home to (y/n) has been the highlight of my day for the last two months, since we moved in together. I knew vaguely what she did for a living, she told me she was a streamer, and apparently, quite a popular one. There have been multiple times, whilst out on a date, or just going to the store to pick up groceries, where (y/n) has been recognised, people freaking out over seeing her in person and wanting a picture, or a hug (I was quick to tell her how many germs she could get from hugging a stranger).
I thought it was nice, I knew roughly how much money she made, she always helped with rent, even if she didn't need to, she randomly bought me presents, whether they were cardigans, fidget toys for when I was on a case, or books that I had justified as too expensive to purchase for myself. She spoiled me, and if I was being honest, I was really enjoying it...
Living with a person for even a month, you walk in on various things, some are perfectly innocent, like when I walked in, exhausted after a week long case in New York. I had text (y/n) to let her know I was on my way home, it was late so I was expecting her to be in bed by that point, but she was up, in the kitchen, cooking dinner and waiting on me. Other things I had walked in on, like accidentally barging in on her in the shower (she still thinks I did this on purpose) were... Less than innocent.
One thing I had never walked in on, was (y/n) during a stream. Now her followers knew about me, in that they knew their favourite streamer was in a relationship and had recently moved in with him, they questioned why her background of her set up had changed so drastically, but they didn't know who I was as a person. (y/n) wanted me to keep my privacy as long as we could manage.
But she wasn't in a very secluded space, there wasn't a huge amount of space in my apartment, but we had made room in the living room for her desk and computers, I joked that it reminded me of Garcia's office, they would get along great. So when I entered our place (still gives me shivers calling it 'our' place), I hadn't text her to let her know I was on my way home, hoping to surprise her with take out and a few snacks for a movie night.
I walked in and was frozen, her face was lit up by three separate monitors, one showing her stream chat, one showing her set up prognosis and one with a pixelated game that I had never seen her playing before. She was a sight... She was all smiles, in comfy clothing, laughing at some of the messages, thanking people for following or donating and generally just being the happy ball of sunshine that I fell for in the first place.
But now I realised, her followers could see me entering the apartment in her camera...

I smiled as I tended to my animals and crops on my little farm. Hearing a familiar jingle, I looked at the chat monitor, to see that someone had donated five dollars, an automated message from an account called Babygirl79 being read by a chat bot, 'Hi (y/n)! I love your streams, Stardew is by far my favourite game so I was super happy to see you streaming it! Hope you have a good day!'
I smiled, "Aw, thank you so much Babygirl! Be honest, did you just send me that message so I would have to say baby girl on a live?" I giggled, "But I hope you have a good day too!" I went back to my game, making some small comments, but really just trying to keep the cosy, quiet atmosphere that came from playing this simple little farming sim.
Now, I had moderators for my chat, they were working through all of the messages and highlighting any that they wanted me to see in particular, but I still flitted my eyes over to that side of my desk every so often, responding to any messages that caught my gaze, so when I saw repeated messages of, 'Who's that behind (y/n)?', I got kind of nervous.
I turned my head sharply, seeing Spencer, trying to clumsily amble his way into the apartment without disturbing me, now that he realised that I was on stream and he was being recorded. I laughed, seeing him in all his fumbling glory, I turned back to the camera, "It's okay you guys, that's my boyfriend, he lives here." I mentioned sweetly. "Don't bother trying to find him on socials, he doesn't have any, he's a special lil cinnamon roll who doesn't like technology..." I whispered.
"I heard that!" Spencer guffawed from the kitchen, setting down what looked like Chinese food. I chuckled in response, raising a brow in a joking way to my face cam.
"Spence, if you want to, you can come over and say hi?" I offered, knowing that if he felt uncomfortable, he would say no. But surprisingly, he shuffled over, standing rather awkwardly behind my chair, resting a hand on the back rest.
"How many people are watching you playing a video game?" He asked, ever curious. I smiled at him softly, a silent 'hello' and 'welcome home', before answering.
"Right now? About a thousand people, but now that update 1.6 has come out, there's probably going to be a flood of people new to the game..." I mentioned casually. Spencer's eyes widened.
"How do you talk in front of so many people all the time?" He asked, gobsmacked.
I laughed, "You tell me hon, you just did!" I told him, seeing his cheeks reddening at the idea. "But honestly, I just try to be myself, I enjoy the games I play, especially this one!" I told him, and the camera.
Spencer watched the screen as I gave Linus a coconut, seeing the heart pop up above his head, "What exactly are you playing?" He asked quietly.
"It's a game called Stardew Valley, it's essentially a digital farm that you take care of, you can grow crops, adopt animals, make a butt load of money and products and talk to all the NPCs!" I told him with a smile, as I moved my character over to the mountain mines.
Spence tilted his head, "NPCs?" He asked.
"Non-player characters, AI from the game with a set list of dialogue and events." I told him, he nodded along as I explained. I explained that you can befriend and even marry the NPCs, by giving them gifts, how each gift has a different reaction from different villagers and the basic quests of the game.
I looked over at the chat, seeing all the messages, 'Spencer is so cute!', 'They're so cute together!', 'Would love to see them playing together!'. I chuckled at all the comments, mentioning briefly that Spence was a technophobe, leading to his comment of indignation.
Little did I know that later that weekend I'd be teaching him how to play the game, he went out and bought a laptop so he could sit at my desk with me.

More about the wenclair kids, this post is dedicated to @krystal-maiden because they wanted to know more about the twins! If anyone wants to ask anything about them, I’d happily share my hyperfixations with anyone (:
Leonidas is a pack animal and prefers company. He follows his moms everywhere and whenever his uncles visit he will hold something they have hostage so they can stay longer. Leonidas was jealous that Wednesday AND Enid had brothers, so he asked for brothers for his birthday. He got two twin sisters instead.
When the twins came home, Leonidas tried to return them because he thought they got the wrong kids.
Vittoria and Naenia are not identical twins, in fact one look at them and nobody could tell they were twins at all. Vittoria is the spitting image of Enid and Leonidas save for her nearly black eyes. And Naenia is the spitting image of Wednesday, except her bright blue eyes which stare into the soul of anyone and everyone.
Naenia and Vittoria were born with their dominant gene being psychic, and because of their twinship they share a connection. If Vittoria cries, Naenia will start crying soon after. If Vittoria is hungry, Naenia will cry, if Naenia wakes up in the middle of the night and sits there quietly, Vittoria will wake up and start crying. If Naenia needs to be changed, Vittoria will start crying. Leonidas noticed this and immediately started trying to experiment to figure out the limits of this. Wednesday always manages to catch him before someone gets beheaded though.
Vittoria was smiling as soon as they left the delivery room. (They had to make sure Leonidas didn’t cut the breaks) Naenia didn’t stop crying unless Wednesday held her and they didn’t like to be separated. Leonidas spent the entire car ride pouting because he wanted brothers.
Naenia has a permanent glare, unless her face is relaxed, like when she’s inspecting Enid’s fangs or near Vittoria. (Naenia will play with Enid and Leo’s fangs as a baby) The first time she smiles is at Leonidas as he’s about to set her on fire, and he decides she is more useful alive (his heart melts and he realizes he’d protect his baby sisters with his life). Vittoria is a very happy baby so long as she’s entertained. She’s very curious and tries to get into everything Leo owns (annoy him to death) and thus starts their life long prank rivalry.
Yoko loves the twins and Leo, she insist they call her aunty or dad (Wednesday firmly disagrees even though she is their god mother). Frequently Yoko just pops into the house with gifts for the twins and Leo. Vittoria loves anything colorful to chew on and expensive (she seems to be able to smell what costs money). Yoko very quickly becomes Vittoria’s favorite and Naenia loves her fangs.
Leonidas always tries to ambush and kill Yoko but she’s much faster and stronger than he is. Yoko just thinks he’s adorable every time he tries to jump on her back with a toy knife. He makes it his goal to defeat her in combat (even though he won’t say it, he respects her a lot). And he likes that she protects Enid, Leo is very protective of his moms.
Naenia loves being around Leonidas, she smiles most as a baby when he watches horror movies with her.
Vittoria loves when there are a lot of people around to watch, she doesn’t like to be bored at all. She often spends time in Leonidas’s old carrier with Enid because she likes to move around. And because Naenia doesn’t like to be far from her, Enid buys a second one for Wednesday to use in public. She is appalled. She wears it anyway. They’re in their snood colors.
Enid: We can match!
Wesnesday: …Leo I think your mom is trying to send me to an early grave.
Leonidas: Grave digging! :D
Wednesday, nodding: Yes we do have to take them on their first grave robbing expedition, they’re getting about that age.
Enid: …they’re five months old.
Wednesday: By that age my father and my uncle had already taken me across the sea to slay my first kraken with them. It’s a bonding experience for family.

my current brain rot ever since atpoaim is a fort date with matty!! however in my head the cute date eventually gets crashed by all the band and ends up with everyone crammed into the tiny fort.
like maybe it's at mattys house, and it's well known George just lets himself in, so he does and immediately sees the large fort in the living room and goes to investigate. he sees you and matty cuddled watching a movie in a sea of blankets and pillows so very unceremoniously flops on top of you both and the myriad of pillows. he works his way into the date somehow and is half watching the movie and half just watching you and matty being sickeningly cute and wondering if that's how him and Charli look.
about 20 mins later, there's a knock on the door, and you and matty are like??? but George just pipes up with "Oh, I invited Adam and Ross to the hangout. I hope that's okay!" and matty starts being like "this actually was a date before you barged in and-" but gets cut off by you saying its totally okay and he should go let them in. Adam feels slightly bad for barging in, but you assure him it's fine, and eventually, the 5 of you are all crammed under this fort cuddled up watching some sappy rom-com you convinced them to watch. it obviously starts with lots of complaints "ugh nooo" "whyyyy," "cmon, do we have to watch this chick flick?"" but eventually divulges into gasps at how bad the guy is and comments like "oh my god she needs to leave him" but also on the other hand they're like "well no because she fucked up too" and finally when the movie ends it is just 4 grown men trying to keep their emotions at bay after watching like enchanted or Notting hill lol
anyway sorry for rambling, domestic matty and the boys kills me off everytime
i can't believe you apologised for this omg i LOVE it!! it kinda feels like slightly older flatmate!matty and his girl to me. like say the boys are on a break from work, and matty's built this fort all cute and romantic for you guys to just chill in all cutely, and you're lazily making out in it when you hear the front door open and close and a gravelly voice go "yoohoo!"; george, bored as shit because charli's off working somewhere, coming round for some entertainment. fully creased at the image of all six foot whatever of him just flopping over you all snuggled into matty - i bet you'd be like "hi darling!" to him, genuinely happy to see him, while matty's all tetchy like "george what the FUCK" (but that's his bestie, so he lets him stay and watch, idk, lady bird (it's my fav film) or whatever with you). and the whole time, george is side-eyeing you and matty in the nicest way, thinking about himself and charli AND how you and matty used to cuddle watching films together even pre-dating but it's so lovely that you're so openly lovey-dovey in the same scenario now. and i think george had probably texted ross and adam to hang out before he came over to yours, and then when they agreed he was like "oh i'm actually at matty's" so they just rock up there; like you said, adam is guilt-stricken and very much like "oh my gosh i am so sorry for intruding i'll be on my way" - matty's like "yes that sounds like a good idea considering my girl and i were having a little DATE before you fuckers showed up" - but you're like "honestly don't worry about it. if you don't mind sitting through my movie choices you can stay". matty sighs, but is appeased when you kiss him quickly and smile sweetly at him, so it becomes the five of you all chilling on pillows in this fort watching the devil wears prada (they would fucking hate andy's boyfriend they really would). and they all complain when you say "oh my god let's watch enchanted" as you go back to the disney+ homescreen, but maybe you all share some alcohol or a joint and then they get really into the movie, gasping at the change from animation to live-action and making little comments throughout the film - i bet ross is SO bitchy about giselle's outfit for the ball lmfao. but yeah, you turn your head to look at them all as the credits roll, and try not to giggle at these huge (and matty) men either sniffling or just beaming happily at the film they just watched. and as much as you've had a nice time, matty kicks the other boys out shortly after this so he can romance you as he had planned to the whole evening (but as you hug them goodbye i think you're like "same time next week? we'll watch 27 dresses and the lizzie mcguire movie") lol <3

Happy 25th anniversary Halloweentown!
This year is full of anniversaries.
Hocus Pocus turned thirty. Nightmare before Christmas turns thirty.
Ray Bradbury's The Halloween Tree animated movie turned thirty.
Neil Gaiman's The Sandman turns thirty-five.
Beetlejuice turned thirty-five.
And today the movie Halloweentown turns twenty-five-years-old. Feel old yet?
Halloweentown (not connected to Nightmare before Christmas) struck while the iron was hot, just one month after the first Harry Potter book was published in the US.
Halloweentown was a relatively low budget made for TV movie for The Disney Channel (and now available both on DVD and on Disney+.)
The plot was about a young girl named Marnie who is about to turn thirteen. Marnie's mother wants her to be "Normal." But her grandmother, Aggie, has other things in mind.
Marie is actually from a line of semi-immortal (long lived) witches. And if she does not start using her powers at age thirteen, they will atrophy and disappear and she will remain mortal. Even back in 1998 I was disgusted in Marnie's mother.
Imagine if you went to an alien planet where the life expectancy is only about thirty years but your mother decides its best you be like those aliens so she keeps you from learning you came from Earth and eating Earth food so that you will only live thirty years "like everyone else on this planet." To me that's what Marnie's mother was like. She was deliberately crippling her daughter.
Or worse, imagine if you went to a planet where no one can walk. You can. But your mother wants you to be like everyone else so she's perfectly happy to saw your legs off. That's how Marnie's mother felt to me in regard to trying to strip her of her (for her) natural abilities.
It's not over-analysis. This is the basic premise.
Anyway, it turns out Aggie (the grandmother, who was played by the late Debbie Reynolds) is from a pocket dimension of entities we associate with Halloween. Monsters, creatures of Nightmare, ghosts, zombies, skeletons, etc. This dimension is called Halloweentown.
Marnie and her other siblings follow Aggie to Halloweentown where they foil the machinations of Voldemort... I mean Kalabar.
There's even a scene in one of the Halloweentown movies where they spot magical broom sticks for sale very similar to the scene in the first Harry Potter story. In the scene Marnie is intrigued by the latest model (which is a bit more high tech looking than a nimbus 2000, by the way). This was three-years before the first Harry Potter movie but only one month after the first book was published in the US.
Marnie embraces her magick and her mother begrudgingly allows Aggie to train her in the use of her powers.
The movie was a surprise hit for The Disney channel and spawned three sequels.
Halloweentown 2: Kalabar's revenge which featured Peter Wingfield (Methos in Highlander the Series).
Marnie's mother annoyed me in the second movie too, because when someone is shown Marnie's room he's disappointed with how mundane it is and Marnie mentions that her mother insists her room be "normal" and she not have her Halloween-y or magical stuff in her bedroom.
They tone the mother down and make her more likable in the third and fourth film but they really never had that woman grow and yet we were not supposed to hate her. This dominating, personality-repressing, and abusive behavior was treated like it was perfectly acceptable.
Halloweentown 3 AKA Halloweentown High. This was an odd one. Marnie becomes guardian for some exchange students from Halloweentown who want to attend human school in our world (now that our world knows Halloweentown exists) but modern day monster hunters want to fan the flames of bigotry and hate and keep humans and monsters separate.
Halloweentown 4 AKA Return to Halloweentown. Marnie (who has been recast) attends university in Halloweentown where the boy she has a crush on is revealed to be a depowered family member of Kalabar but a good guy. I really was not comfortable with the idea of the entire family being stripped of their powers because they were releated to a creep but ...okay...
Also Marnie learns that Grandma Aggie technically should be the Queen of Halloweentown but relinquished her title and a magical amulet that lets her dominate the wills of others, because she believes in the importance of free will.
For all their flaws I still enjoy these movies.
I almost think these films were first intended to be live-action tie-ins to Nightmare before Christmas but Disney decided they didn't want to deal with Tim Burton and just didn't reference any of his characters even though the concept of a Halloweentown in another world where everyday is Halloween was literally created by Tim Burton in his long-form poem that became the movie Nightmare before Christmas.
Anyway, Happy 25th anniversary Halloweentown!

I finished rewatching Total Drama Island (and I only almost threw up five or so times. All on episode 25. I only had to stop watching for, like, five minutes though. Whoever came up with that episode is seriously fucked up, but I can’t help but to respect it.)
I just think that rewatching Island is hilarious with the foresight of World Tour existing. They could not have set up Heather’s future narrative mirror any better if they tried, like, it’s kind of amazing! I mean, I’m sure the creators had some idea that the show would continue, but that had to be near the end right? Otherwise, I’d have to assume that the creators gave so many of the characters nice, happy endings with the intention to fuck them up. Which, the creators did create TDI episode 25, so it isn’t outside the realm of possibility, but-
Anyway, none of that’s the point. Heather having to deal with Heather 2: Electric Boogaloo is the funniest thing they could have made happen in World Tour. I know it’s a redemption arc, and I think they couldn’t have given Heather a redemption arc if they tried anything else. Like, if Heather was antagonized and antagonizing Alejandro, who Noah says best is just like Heather only prettier more socially adept, Heather would never be redeemed. Some of the stuff she does in the first season is just cruel for the sake of being cruel. If they tried to redeem her any other way than making her deal with herself 2.0, it just wouldn’t have worked.
(And it wouldn’t have been as funny)
I really liked a lot of the episodes. It really takes me back to my childhood, you know? I was only 6 when Island first premiered. I didn’t understand a single thing going on. I think I liked Leshawna because I liked her shirt. And, Leshawna, I feel, definitely has the least second-hand embarrassmant scenes, so that was probably a part of it. I liked DJ because I could relate to his anxiety. Even at 6. That’s probably a bad thing, huh…
Anyway, point being, I totally watched this show as a kid and I absolutely hated every other moment and wanted to die and understood approximately none of what was going on (as a kid andanadultcoughcough I tended to zone out. I missed a lot of plot in movies and tv shows. I was busy thinking about something else) and I think I only watched the show because I wasn’t supposed to. I do think the series’ humour peaked in World Tour (“If it’s any consolation, you do get *gestures to Tyler falling down the side of a pyramid*” This makes me laugh every time. The line delivery, the timing, even the animation- everything is wonderful. Not to mention Tyler climbing the fence in Area 51 and getting electrocuted and Duncan and Alejandro going in through the open gate. Tyler is the funniest character in all of Total Drama (that I know of, which is seasons 1-3) and I will fight you on that.) but Island is still very amusing. DJ screaming at Heather, her saying “stop, it’s me, Heather,” he stops, then starts screaming again. A little joke I don’t see people mention a lot is Chef saying “25 of us went in, only 5 of us came out,” twice. The second time always gets me. Chef telling Chris he’s an inspiration while cradling Chris in his arms is only as funny as it is because of Chris awkwardly saying “thanks, dude.”
I really like all the characters. Watching it again, there really aren’t any characters I actively hate. I mean, Ezekiel just isn’t in the show long enough for me to hate him, and even Heather has her most redeeming quality (being very funny). The characters are fun to watch interact. I really like Geoff, who was voted off for being too good of a person. Of course I really like Leshawna, who connected the sewage pipe to the showers while Heather was showering to get revenge, which was just really satisfying. I like Gwen and Owen, especially because they’re just the most unlikely duo of all time and their friendship is kinda cute. Noah is fun if only because he is very obviously a 2007 stereotype of a gay man: calling people “honey,” being sarcastic, his voice, hanging around mostly with girls, not liking traditionally masculine things (sports), limp wrist, the scathing way he talks to people (he did kiss a dude that one time but it was in his sleep, so I’ll give him a pass on that one. Plus, it wasn’t even the only scene of a dude kissing another dude. Owen kisses dudes. Kissing someone’s ear and people’s cheeks, I just don’t know if I buy that being significant in any way other than the creators making gay jokes). Noah was obviously meant to be a gay caricature only for the creators to figure out he was a fan favourite and give him a girlfriend, most likely at the behest of the studio. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Noah’s popularity in the first season stemmed entirely from him being a gay caricature. 2007, man. Things were wild.
I guess you could say that I sort of understand Noah’s popularity, especially coming from seasons where he was not the third person to be booted, but also I don’t? He’s funny, which is enough for me to like him, but I don’t know if others agree. In fact, I can almost guarantee there are people who disagree, because I like Heather for the same reason, and people have claimed that no one should like Heather. Unfortunately, she made me giggle once, and now I will defend her to the death. That’s just the way I am, sadly, and I can’t change it, nor do I particularly want to.
Speaking of Heather, I really enjoyed the running gag of Chef being a good chef who purposefully makes terrible food for the campers. I like when he complains about no one showing any gratitude for him slaving over a hot stove all day. I really like that he seems to hate Owen, because he just can’t gross Owen out, but he also seems to like Owen, because Owen compliments his cooking.
Owen is such a weird character, because he is the butt (pun intended) of so many gay jokes. But my favourite Owen bit is him in the confessional spilling all of his secrets because the confessional makes him want to confess everything. Also, Mr. Coconut. Also also, Owen easily defeating the snake keeping them up in the treehouse and, upon being asked why he didn’t do it earlier, him saying “What, and miss out on all of this bonding?” I love Owen.
I quite enjoyed watching the show. It is nice to understand what’s going on. And to understand the jokes. And to realize how weird it is that Lindsay couldn’t talk about eating disorders or boob jobs but Harold could talk about seeing boobies (on American television). And now I get how weird it is that they aged down the cast, yet kept the adult themes. I mean, the teens very rarely act like teenagers, they more act like college students than high school ones, and the discrepancy between their ages and the ages they were meant to be portrayed as is incredibly funny to me.
All in all, I will continue to watch the show’s seasons. Because it’s either that, or pull my hair out trying to get myself to hyperfixate on something else. I can’t guide my hyperfixations, I can only ride them. And this is what my mind wants to focus on. I don’t really have a choice, y’know? If I did, I think I would choose literally any other show (any other show that didn’t make me almost throw up a dozen times). There are worse shows to fixate on, but there are definitely better ones too.

a big thank yee to @kaylinalexanderbooks who tagged me in this thingy! I read your post btw and we share so many things in common I can't believe I haven't asked you to be my best friend sooner :). Anyway, here it is!
Are you named after anyone? Yes, actually. I'm named after my mom's best friend from college who has unfortunately passed away, but she was the best. She and I share the same love for helping people, and I wish that I had gotten to meet her in person.
When was the last time you cried? This afternoon. I've been reading through The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien and it's both one of the best and most depressing books I've read this year.
Do you have kids? Do my pets count? Otherwise nope lol. (although my bearded dragon acts like a child most of the time)
Do you use sarcasm a lot? Ummm...yes. that is my main sense of humor as well as my main coping mechanism (please don't tell my psychiatrist this, she will hunt me down and drag me to therapy).
What's the first thing you notice about people? Definitely their smiles. You can tell a lot about people by the way they smile (if they are forcing it/if they're genuinely happy), and it helps me know how to help them/how they are feeling. I'm also apparently scarily perceptive of people and have the ability to see through people even when they seem like a brick wall to others so that helps I guess lol.
What's your eye color? Dark brown
Scary movies or happy endings? Definitely happy endings. Even as old as I am in my early 20s, scary movies make me want to cry lol. I love a good happy ending :).
Any special talents? I'm in the process of being the first sci-fi fantasy author in my family so I guess that counts? I also am known as the animal whisperer in my friend group (a whole ass deer family came up to me once while I was eating a sandwich and I got to pet them and it was nice lol), and my presence attracts all the little hobgoblin animals and its hilarious.
Where were you born? central Illinois unfortunately. ever heard of Champaign-Urbana? Yeah, it's right in the middle of nowhere.
What are your hobbies? I love writing, playing guitar and ukulele, and taking pictures of animals. I also dabble in painting/sketching and am in the process of painting murals at my place rn (currently working on a wall piece of studio ghibli/avatar the last airbender murals). The Dragon Prince and Dota: Dragon's Blood have special places in my heart on Netflix, and you'll often find me binge-watching them on days when I can't find anything else to do. Video games are also a favorite pastime of mine (I will legit not shut up about them once you get me started).
Do you have any pets? Yeah! I have a cat, two dogs, and a sassy bearded dragon named Zuko who likes cuddling on my face/my laptop when I'm trying to finish teaching projects for college.
What sports do you play/have you played? I've been playing golf for the past five years, and love it. It's very relaxing, and honestly very stress-relieving (except when you shoot a ball into the water and that one old couple you see every time at the course starts laughing as they see a otherwise composed woman throw her club and shout obscenities at a geological feature that swallowed a $10 ball). I tried my hand at soccer way back when, but hated competitive playing and instead now teach little kids how to play at my local elementary school sometimes.
How tall are you? 5'7
Favorite subject in school? I adored English, art, and history. I took a theatre class in my first year of college and found a love for it (my professor wanted me to try out for the play but I turned him down and it still haunts me). I also have a strange fascination for philosophy.
Dream job? Elementary school teacher and author (I can't wait to graduate and have my own classroom with those little goblins lol)

long time no talk. Oh I love this ask. Especially since it's focused not just on mutuals or anything but on people who just interact. As it should be honestly.
Anyway my 5 things at this moment would have to be:
my cat (always)
all other cats and cute animals that come my way
my plants - i started caring for my plants and propagating them and researching them and figuring out where they'd get most light and what not. Truly makes me so calm and happy and when I see them grow it's like I see myself grow with them. truly magnificent
nature in general. gosh isn't nature just the most gorgeous thing imaginable
my friends - i am so in awe of my friends. like not even joking I am capable of making myself cry thinking about my wonderful friends and how far they've come and how they're contributing and helping in the society (a lot of my friends are in some way activists or work for some really beneficial nonprofit etc.) or creating such wonderful art and poetry and just I love my friends a lot, okay?
I might have slightly cheated by saying plants and animals twice so I will also say that my niblings also make me very happy and of course I love my silly little tv shows and my artsy movies

I definitely think you should give the Rise movie a chance, I know your angry but what telling you right now without going into spoilers they didn’t retcon Cass, they would never do that.
Plus you gotta keep in mind that they were doing the movie and season 2 at the exact same time & they had a plan in mind to make season 2 transition smoothly into the movie but since season 2 got cut short, and they had already finished a huge part of the movie, they tried their best to make it align with season 2 with how they had to do the finale since they had so much more to do but never got the chance. All that is thanks to Nickelodeon.
Besides that the movie is genuinely very good. You can tell the entire Rise team put their blood sweat and tears into this movie especially when it was rumored that it was gonna be cancelled due to the show getting so much hate.
They DID retcon Casey.
Tell me this: what if they completely removed Raphael from the movie and only included him in the last five minutes. Instead, they had his grandson from the future who has extreme anger issues and acts and looks JUST like the 2012 Raph did. They acknowledge the original Rise Raph existed but they’re not really gonna include him, they’re just gonna focus on developing his grandson’s character who just so happens to look and act just like past iterations of Raph did.
OR, or!!! Let’s look at April. What if they removed her from the whole movie except the couple minutes as a cameo, and just had her grandniece in the movie who is white with red hair! Original Rise April has no part in the movie anymore and they’re just going to develop her grandniece’s character who coincidentally looks and asks just like her past iterations.
No one would be happy with any of this, right? This is what they did to Casey. They replaced her.
I literally don’t care how great the movie is with all the other characters. I don’t care if the animation is wonderful, I don’t care if the story is great, I don’t care. This movie is built upon the premise of sexism. Either the Rise crew was ordered to replace the female Casey with a male one to appease sexist audiences or they were so worried about being cancelled they threw away one of their only developed female characters to appease old tmnt fans who were never going to support this version anyways.
It’s disgusting and misogynistic. I was trying to be quiet on the day of this movie to let fans enjoy it and wasn’t going to critique anything but people are now in my askbox telling me what they did was fine and I should watch the movie anyways. Please stop. RotTMNT replaced a female character to appease misogynistic audiences and I’m not supporting that. I don’t care how hard anyone worked on that kind of movie. It is blatantly sexist.

i've recently been on an animal crossing binge, just for some relaxing and time away from everything else, because its just a very fun and easy game <3 (also combatting the cold and dark days by playing a game where i can see the sun)
i am currently designing my island (trying to get to 5*'s!! i just unlocked terraforming and such) and went to yours because i wanted some ideas (i've been to your island once, in 2021 for your birthday! it's changed so much — everything changes when things go on for long enough) but i am here to say that i loved your island tremendously !!!

The animal crossing party in 2021! That was held on Cat’s island—Gratitude. 🌻 Fun fact, I drew Gratitude’s flag. 😌✨ But i’m so excited you came to Hettisland!!! 🥺 Good luck on the five stars!!! I believe in you!!! I hit three stars and then just accepted I’d never hit five, LOL (i have too many trees! Isabelle tells you the islanders are complaining about getting lost among them, if you over do it!). Cat gave me some of the Lily-of-the-Valley that grows on Gratitude, so I use them to dot around Hettisland instead of worrying about growing my own. 🥺🌷
But lmaooo, I’m glad you liked my resident home. 🥹 The current version has taken a lot of fussing and random midnight trades through AC groups—dream home woes. 😩 And of course, on top of that, we had to represent our boy. 😌💥✨ His code actually replaced a space filler i had before, so for ages after downloading it, i was finding random Bakugous dotted all around my island lmaooo.
when you mentioned Henrietta (my island rep) was saying creepy shit i was like, ????? but then i remembered i’d entered it as my passport comment. 😭 humiliating, LOL. i got on and changed it today, though, so it’s less… ominous (“I’m gonna catch bugs!” which might be still ominous but is hopefully better suited to the vibes of Hettisland lmaooo). 🥹 speaking of horror islands though, have you ever visited Purgatory? Evil Imp makes like, little movies with New Horizons and their island is like a haunted film set, LOL, it’s so intricate! Creepy too, although sometimes that’s dispelled when you’re walking past some whistling islander, LOL. But apparently Evil had poured like, 1600+ hours into the island by the time the dream address was available to people. 🥺 It’s really fun to explore!! Every house tells a story!!!
Shino!!! Yeah, she’s a cutie—she was a camper, and at the time I had a rooster I really hated (he was a snobby, and I already had one—plus he was lowkey kinda mean LMAO i couldn’t tolerate it), so I asked her to stay. Mostly though I just take what I’m given, in terms of who shows up on the island—i think the variety is fun (unless it’s that hateful rooster!!!)

Puppies (or cute animals in general).
Staying curled up in bed under 2 covers and hugging 3 pillows, and reading fanfics on a lazy Saturday.
Drawing on my iPad. I am SO glad I bought it last summer. It's really helped with my feeling "trapped" on my computer.
My current hyperfixations, whatever they may be (right now, it's Moon Knight, chocolate milk [like, I'm ALWAYS CRAVING it], and sorting recipes, which is a weird one but okay, LOL). Most of the time these are fandom things, and they just... really give me dopamine hits whenever I see stuff from said fandoms, which is why I spend so much time on Tumblr. If it's a show, I'll rewatch all my fave parts over and over and OVER again. I'm on Week 3 of rewatching MK in chunks, LOL. Before that, I rewatched OFMD a LOT.
Video games... currently any of the Assassin's Creed games. I get REALLY into open-world games and I will spend literal MONTHS on grinding to get everything before I get to the final boss of the games I play. (AC Valhalla, I have around 350hrs clocked on it. Before that, the longest was Skyrim, with 225 hours). Problem with me gaming, though, is that, again, it's a hyperfixation I think, because I will game for literal hours and lose track of time and not eat. It's why I got the iPad so I could try to focus a bit more on my art work and be more aware of my hours.
Can I add a sixth? Writing ficlets. Y'all, I have SO many fanfic snippets half done, because I get invested in fandoms, then ideas happen and I have to write them down but nothing comes of them. I should try to finish some. I miss publishing. What I want to do is find my old Sonic stories and rewrite them. Hmm.
OKAY ONE MORE: My collectables, especially my Funko Pops. Yes, I know they're terrible shitty things, but I fucking LOVE my Funko, okay?? They make me SO happy. Plus my obsession is keeping a local business very happy LOL. I mostly only get Funko of shows and movies I think I will love, and I get a hit whenever my pre-orders come in and one of them is a hard-to-get Chase figure because I legit sit and refresh their website a year ahead of release daily so I can make sure I pre-order before the photos are even up LOL. Just sad that I have most of them in storage because I have no room for them in my apt. I can't wait for a bigger place.
ONE MORE I PROMISE: Making people happy GENUINELY makes me happy. I think that's why I spend so much time working on this blog, because I know it makes other people happy, and I just... always hope someone messages me, and tells me, and then BOOM instant dopamine hit. I dunno. DOWNSIDE to this is that I'm also prone to "feeling bad" if I think I failed in making people happy. It's a horrible thing, sometimes, to be a people-pleaser BECAUSE I like making people happy. I dunno. I'm weird, I guess.

Happy new year Layla:) Do you have any tips for self care? I've started this year feeling real low x
Happy new year to you too lovely, I'm sorry to hear you've started the year on such a low!! I feel like this time of year is always a sucker for that because you're surrounded by everyone making goals and "starting fresh" or like "clean" and there's a lot of pressure on everyone to be making good healthy changes for self improvement or to be happy and stuff. When actually like, this is the worst time of year to be making those kinds of changes, like its cold and dark all the time and u know, sometimes u just wanna sleep and chill and be easy on yourself? idk thats how I feel anyway
but I started the year feeling pretty low too and I haven't exactly pulled myself out of it yet either (especially now im ill I really have just stayed in bed every day since the new year began)
stuff I would recommend though
try and work out if something major is causing the low feelings, if its something solid and obvious then see if there's anything small u could do to make things slightly easier (for example a thing I was very very stressed about was my credit card bill and yesterday I paid it off so that it was one less thing to worry about) (another is my gas/electric bill and in a minute when im done typing this ill go and actually take my meter readings and send them in, because I've been horribly worried about them) I don't mean any of those things lightly either btw, those aren't small problems for me, they're huge looming mountains of stress that really can leave me bedridden with anxiety lol
if the problems more abstract or u can't really figure out what's making u feel shit then u know, maybe you are just tired? I find the end of the year very overwhelming, what with he highs of Christmas and new year, the social interaction the constant positivity and stuff, its exhausting and u may well just be very very worn out. so like, let urself acknowledge that u don't feel great, you're having a rough wee time of it lately and that u need a little time to chill out and reset.
my old recs used to be like, take a nice hot bath or something but now im like, cost of living crisis who can even afford a bath anymore amirite so
cook yourself ur favourite meal or treat yourself by going out for breakfast or lunch or something, I find it easier to go out for lunch or for a coffee on my own than I would out for dinner iygwim
reread a book you love
go for a little walk, just something small to get yourself out of the house, try and walk somewhere like a park and take your headphones off so that you can hear the birds and stuff!!
like idk how to explain it but sometimes taking your headphones off and listening to the world around you, other people, traffic, bird/ animal noises is really grounding and makes u feel part of something rather than cut off and alone
that being said sometimes having a cigarette and listening to ur favourite record is also the cure for all ailments so
call a friend, not even in a reaching out kind of way, just in a now might be a good time to catch up with a pal kind of way
clean your room/ a room in ur house, make it super cosy with blankets and candles and shit, then make yourself a brew and watch ur favourite comfort movie?
wash ur face, do a face mask, or a hair mask and comb your hair.
set yourself really small tasks for the day, things you have been putting off that will maybe only take five minutes to do, when you have done each thing cross it off your little list and then when u have finished the list 1) you will feel accomplished af 2) u can reward yourself however u see fit
sometimes I put music on really loud and sing along to it whilst im doing the dishes or cleaning the house and I feel really uplifted afterwards
run urself the hot bath bestie, it doesn't cost as much as we're all worried it will
go to the cinema by yourself? this one works for me sometimes? there's something really cleansing about stepping out into broad daylight after you've been in the cinema in the morning
go wander round some charity shops
sometimes u really do just need a few hours curled up under a blanket with a hot drink or a snack.
Also
if you're feeling low in a similar way to me (ed stuff idk) something im trying really hard to do is stay away from shit like Pinterest/ THAT side of Tumblr/ twitter. I'm trying to take each meal as it comes, reminding myself that u gotta eat when ur hungry (I have given myself so many little repeats of lectures b has given me in the past about eating lol)
I'm like, planning an activity for whilst I eat, like, I'll make porridge for breakfast then watch a shitty anime or cartoons the way I would have done when I was a kid. Or I'll make dinner and watch a movie with it. Something thats enough of a pleasant distraction.
Also I'm getting a lot of nutrition through soups and stuff, because they have always been easier for me to eat. Like not pushing myself too far or putting pressure on myself to be the perfect recoveree but also making sure I look after myself.
If thats not the kind of low you're feeling then just ignore all that, but I thought id leave it in just in case because I know a lot of my mutuals do get the same way I do sometimes.
The main thing is to remember to be forgiving of yourself. This isn't a forever feeling and eventually the depression will pass. Listen to All Things Must Pass by George Harrisson and know its the most truthful song in the world. this time of year is always tough but be gentle with yourself and know I am always here if u need to vent or want to talk!!!!! sending you love and good vibes bestie <3 xsxx

Gossiping with Alex about cute boys was one of Reggie's favourite things to do. They hadn't done it a lot when they were alive, given that a lot of the hot boys at their school were kind of massive jerks (or Luke, and Alex had gone 'NOPE' and refused to talk to him for half an hour when Reggie brought up that Luke was kind of hot). Still, the absolutely giddy expression Alex got and the way he leaned in when they did was something Reggie cherished.
So he already knew a bunch about Willie before they met. Like his pretty hair, and his smile, and how smart and witty he was, and that he made Alex blush and smile. Then they met, and Reggie had to admit that Alex had been right, Willie was really, really cool. (And pretty, obviously. Like, good for Alex, they had totally exchanged high fives when Alex came back after one of their dates and giddily told Reggie he'd kissed Willie.)
And sure, he'd made some mistakes, but he'd risked his own... life? Afterlife? He'd risked his entire self to go against the creepy magician guy who owned his soul to help them.
But it had worked, and they'd played the Orpheum and gotten Julie's magic hug and now they were safe. And so was Willie, thankfully. In fact, Caleb was barely around during the day, which meant he had more freedom to hang out with them than ever before.
And okay, they made sure that Alex and Willie got plenty of alone time (prime hanging-out-with-Ray time for Reggie, really). But there were lots of times they hung out all together, when Willie came to band practice or took them to cool ghost hangouts in the city or to the skate park. He even showed up once when Alex was busy and took Reggie to an animal shelter, showing him the best places to play with the dogs without people freaking out about floating balls and toys.
So yeah, Willie was really cool. Which Reggie made sure to tell him, because while Willie was pretty good at owning his awesomeness when it came to cool ghost tricks and skating and like, being a fun dude, he wasn’t too good at it when it came to other stuff. Like how he was kind, and how he made Alex happy, and how he deserved to be treated well. How of course he got a turn to pick a movie for movie night, or a say in what they were going to do, or a spot on the couch.
“You always see the good in people,” Willie said one day, when Reggie squished up against Luke to make enough room on the couch for Willie. It would still be a tight fit, but it would also give him an excuse to curl up against Alex, so really, Reggie was just being a good bro. “Even me.”
“What?” Alex said softly, wrapping his arm around Willie.
“Of course!” Reggie said stubbornly. “You’re awesome, dude. You’re cool and you’re funny and you-”
“I almost got you killed,” Willie cut him off.
Luke shrugged. “So has Alex, when he just got his learner’s permit and Bobby thought that meant it was fine if he drive us home from a gig.”
“I tried to tell you guys I wasn’t ready!” Alex objected. “Anyway, who here pushed me and Reggie in a shopping cart off a steep hill?” Luke didn’t even look guilty, starting to cackle instead. Okay, but, fear of death by skidding into traffic aside that had been pretty fun, and Reggie was very sad Bobby and Alex wouldn’t let him do it again.
“See?” Reggie said, before they could point out all the times Reggie had done something stupid that almost got the guys killed. “That’s just part of being family. You didn’t even do it on purpose, unlike some people.”
“Family?” Willie whispered.
“Yeah dude, you’re like our brother-in-law,” Reggie pointed out, grinning a shit-eating grin when Alex squeaked and turned red.
“And even if you weren’t dating Alex, you’re still our bro,” Luke said dutifully.
Willie was quiet for a long while, so much so that Reggie was kind of worried they’d broken him. He and Luke were just starting to exchange nervous looks when Willie whispered. “You guys feel more like home than any place or anyone has in a long time.”
And really, could anyone blame Reggie for the tackle-hug that knocked Willie right into Alex? Especially when Luke joined and it became an even worse tangle of limbs. Eventually, the group hug settled more into a cuddle pile, though, and they finally turned on the movie, Willie comfortably sandwiched in between them, Alex playing with his hair. Right where he belonged.

I’ve listened to the podcast where Mike and Bryan talk about their plans regarding Avatar Studios and its projects. https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1119-comic-con-metapod-96144484/episode/inside-the-universe-of-avatar-the-98862715/ Now, avatar news reported the main new items, but I wanted to go the source.
I am very pleased with the facts that 1) everything that’s done is more or less canon; 2) the announced movies are going to be focused on something new and won’t adapt comics or novels.
I am pleased not because I consider comics perfect, but because I feel we are done with that time they covered. And those events. Yes, everything could have been dome differently, but it is time to move on. What I really want is something new happening to the characters I love in the world I love, and I am glad the creators want the same thing.
One thing that’s been really puzzling is how many times upon announcement of a possible “Zuko” movie that many “visible mainsteam” fans, fans not lurking on Tumblr and discords servers, but writing about their love in widely read Internet media (like Tor.com) or speaking in widely listened to podcasts (like the one above) immediately jumped with excitement upon the idea of making an animated version of the “Search” comic. Like, why would you?
I happened to like this story. I think Gene Luen Yang had a difficult task of filling in gaps in canon coming up with plausible explanations for Ursa’s disappearance. And he gave her a chance to tell her own story, which in the animated series she would not – she existed only as a memory there, filtered by perceptions of her children and Ozai.
Still, I see faults there as well, and I don’t think the story of the search itself is very good. And Zuko had very little to do there, so the choice of it for “Zuko” movie felt weird. Not to mention that the story dealing with domestic abuse, depression and mother not being perfect opens so many cans of worms I don’t know why anyone would be passionate about them.
Most of all, why would you do it, when you have a chance to tell a totally new cool story?
Anyway.
The Bryke seem to agree with me, and I am so very happy we are in accord. They also don’t want to deal with existing comics and want to tell the new stories, and it’s great.
The recent announcement (https://www.instagram.com/p/CgVOj0hjSiG/) indicates that we are not looking for Zuko movie, but Aang and friends movie, which really, makes a total sense. Whether we meet them three years after the end of animated series, five year, of even ten, they are still very young people who have a lot of stories to tell, a lot of trouble to get into, a lot of problems to solve, and a lot joy to share with us.
And I really, really want to see our beloved characters remaking the world into a better place. And holding on to their friendship and love. There are so many possibilities, and I am glad that we are going to see one of them.
