so we know that nanami, thee standard, doesn't accept fwb and has to take you out for a proper time after a while.. curious about what you think about gojo? he strikes me as the type to enjoy fwb, but also not? also, hear me out, yuwuta... megumi? fwb with megumi... sighs dreamily
my likeliness to engage in fwb behavior scale goes like this: most gojo = yuuta > toge = yuuji > maki > nanami > nobara = megumi least
satoru and yuuta say yes if you ask them but it’s only because they already like you or already in love with you… and they know that it’s not the best idea in the world, but through their powers of delusion, they think they can make you like them back. because clearly whatever they’re doing now isn’t enough, so maybe sex will help?? who’s ever turned down bomb dick yk… besides, sex with boys who think they’ve got something to prove >> that being said, it’s never really been fwb in their head, their plan was never noncommittal sex, they have all their strings attached to you and they want to be yours forever, so good luck <3
toge and yuuji are also pretty likely to do it, because, again, who are they to turn down their best friend asking them for sex? they both go into it very naively, they go along with whatever rules and boundaries you set, and are genuinely in it to have fun with you and please you, but they get very confused very quickly. it feels like a relationship to them, so shouldn’t it be a relationship? they don’t think much of it until you bring up exclusivity and/or mention going on a date with someone else, then all the feelings come forth and jealousy rears it’s ugly head and the next time you sleep together something shifts, it’s more possessive, more desperate, more mine mine mine… think they’re the ones to either confess or just… assume you’re dating and/or tell you you’re dating now lol. like toge just throws his shirt at you when you try to get up and leave him the next day and tells you you aren’t exhibiting much girlfriend like behavior, and yuuji either says something sappy or does something sweet and you tell him he doesn’t have to and he just goes “but you’re my girlfriend! ofc i’m gonna be nice to you!… you are my girlfriend, in case you didn’t know!”
maki debates it for a bit, and then reasons that the convenience of it would be nice. she doesn’t expect to get attached, and it really annoys her when you invade her thoughts when she’s supposed to be busy with things not involving you. but she doesn’t really say anything about it. honestly, you would either have to call it off, or express interest in someone else before she realizes that the way to solve her intrusive thoughts of you isn’t to go back to being friends, it’s to go to being something more than friends.
nanami also agrees for the convenience of it, but even so, he debates it for a while after you bring it up to him. ultimately, he decides that if it’s something you truly want, he will do his best to ensure it’s beneficial for the both of you. he seems like he actually tries to develop some kind of schedule—not just for convenience, but also because he wants to make sure he has time to treat you properly. quickies on his lunch break probably aren’t what you signed up for, so he makes sure he has the time and energy to devote himself to you. the problem becomes two fold: (1) kento starts to want you all the time, not just the times you’ve set aside to have sex, and (2) the longer your arrangement goes on, the more kento believes that you deserve to have someone who can dedicate all their time to you. he doesn’t think that you should settle for convenient, arranged sex with a partner who has no attachment or loyalty to you, you deserve to be taken care of wholly. and so, he steps up and becomes that person, even if it’s not something you were striving for. you will gain a boyfriend and a committed relationship, that is the very bare minimum from him!!
nobara and megumi seem the least likely to want any kind of fwb situation. nobara thinks they too frequently develop into situationships, and she doesn’t have space or time in her life to be in a situationship with anybody—much less somebody like you who’s already wormed your way into her life against her will. you’ve unfolded your chair, now sit in it. if you want nobara, you get all of her, all the time. it’s similar with megumi; even if he isn’t the most upfront with his feelings, megumi is a romantic at heart, he does things according his beliefs, he’s moved by his own motives, he needs to be moved to do anything really—and friends with benefits does not move him. if you want megumi, then simply be obsessed with him or die tbh, like he’s not ever one to engage in anything half-way; you want sex with him, then you’re gonna learn to put up with his cold fingers and surly attitude and unwillingness to get out of bed before 11am, you are going to be his if he’s gonna give anything to you

i saw this lovely post and went, wait i know some quantum physics! so here is my attempt at some symbolism
☀☀☀☀
Light is both a wave and a particle. A dual nature that cannot be explained one way or the other only ever both.
A wave could not strike an electron and move it from its orbit, creating electricity. A particle could not pass through adjacent holes and create interference. Light is both a wave and a particle.
He is both Duke Thomas and the Signal. When he puts on the suit for the day, he becomes aware of the event horizon off in the distance.
Gravitational waves propagate outwards from a source of mass at the speed of light. Mass distorts the fabric of space time. Like a coin in a funnel, objects of lesser mass are drawn in towards the center. When an object with sufficient mass, such as a black hole, distorts the weave to such a degree, there is a point of no return. Not even light can escape.
For the cave dwellers of Gotham city, the center of gravity is not the sun nor the moon, but a very large Bat.
The man is both Bruce Wayne and Batman. A dual nature that cannot be explained one way or the other only ever both.
He is both Duke Thomas and the Signal. He is not Batman, he is not Bruce Wayne, he is better.
He sees the event horizon, the point of no return, where his light is swallowed up into the all consuming gravitational pull.
He knows the consequences for orbiting too close.
The most luminous star in the known universe is 10.9 billion light years away, with a solar luminosity 200 billion times that of the Sun. It lies in the Sunburst galaxy, and its name is Godzilla.
Before he goes to bed for the night, Duke looks up at the smoggy, clouded, light polluted Gotham sky and thinks: Bet.

is there a particular reason why you not a big fan of The Wizard relation with Billy within the 90s incarnation? genuinely curious btw
My main issue with that version of the Wizard and Billy’s relationship is that it added a lot of annomosity between them that didn't exist in earlier versions. They argue a lot about Billy’s use of his powers, about Mary and the fact that she's missing, about how to deal with any given problem. Billy is even furious about his transformation at first and attacks him! I just felt like more often than not tension between them overshadowed any real love and mentorship that existed between them. If they'd been able to strike a balance in their relationship I wouldn't mind their occasional arguments, but I felt we saw a lot more negative interactions than positive ones.
While I understand why a writer might want to introduce tension between them, it sort of gave way to this growing trend of people viewing Shazam as a morally gray and even sometimes outright evil or manipulative character. It kind of marked the beginning of the decline in Billy and the Wizard's relationship that hit rock bottom in the Nu52 where they basically actively disliked each other.
This is just my personal opinion and preferences though. I'm sure plenty of people enjoyed the added complications and nuances to their relationship that the 90s version introduced, but I wasn't the biggest fan of it.

Yeah, the Knights of the Round Table are cool, but what about the Squires of the Round Table? I want to know about the pack of hapless adolescents that are supposed to be learning the finer points of knighthood from THEE most chaotic bastards to ever share a braincell.
(Merlin unknowingly becomes, like, the patron saint of squires bc if he can handle Arthur, they can handle their respective masters as well)
no ok i'm in love with this. the squires of the round table is the spin off i didn't know we needed, but by GOD am i glad you told me, anon.
(you are a GEM, anon, i'm in love with you)
the squires for knights are the round table's adopted children. oh, sorry, was that kid the son of such and such??? he's leon's boy now. they all have youngest sibling syndrome so sorry i don't make the rules and yes they do treat merlin like he's a mob wife.
anyway,
these squires would get up to so much shit omfg. if you're the squire to gwaine, have fun upsetting your noble father (because most squires come from the nobility and since arthur took down that rule when he became, then there became this influx of squires who were from the common people) and learning that doing illegal shit is the best thing and you've only tasted a sliver of what gwaine has been doing since he was 13 but you LOVE IT---
squires of sir leon are trained into how to become the mom friend. it's not much, but it's hard work. sometimes the little squires pity their knight because he is not paid enough for for the antics his other knights and king get into ("poetry??? seriously, is that what they told him???" "idk that's roland said" "maybe we should gift him some more moisturizer?"). yes they do treat sir leon with the respect they would give an older cousin.
sir elyan is very new to all this...squire business but he's not one to let his little men (little brothers tbh) be caught slacking. he has them run drills everyday and they complain about it all the time ,but then you'll find them in an empty room perfecting their forms, and making sure it's perfect because sir elyan deserves the best. and he called nathan's form "superb" but nathan's a bitch and you just think that if you get this form right---
elyan teaches his squires moves that were taught to him by tristan and isolde because they totally worked together while elyan was away and he respects them so much and misses them and wonders if they ever got the chance to settle down and breath like they had dreamed
sir percival is second on the list of knights who teaches his squires the more traditional way (first is leon obvi) but that does not mean he let's them fall behind with dirty tricks. listen, this man was friends with lancelot (honorable, noble, dreamed of being a knight since he was prob 15) so he knows the intricacies of knighthood; however, he is also besties with gwaine and elyan both of whom are a chaotic combination if put in the same room. the squires are granted the perfect balance of swishy swordplay and body slamming a bitch. sleeves??? don't know her. the squires beg percival for them to cover their arms and he is offended.
sir lancelot, the epitome of honor and loyalty, is a force to work with. the squires think that he'll be the one whose teaching will lead them far off adventures and gain cool ass scares. lancelot is actually the old coot who grants wisdom like an old man who's lived two lifetimes. his training is unusual but somehow it works. the chores he assigns aren't demeaning, nor are they used as punishment. you are lancelot's squire for a week and you immediately understand that this man is a man who has his heart on his sleeve and you watch as he gazes at the king, the queen, and the manservant. his eyes always fond and full of...something. you are too young to pick up on a deep and unconditional emotion like that. not yet.

Ok this is related to this post I've screamed about multiple times, but something I love so much about The Karate Kid is their exploration into the role a teacher. A teacher, a mentor, a father, whatever you want to call it, the franchise explores just how much influence a teacher can leave you -- for good or bad.
Sensei (先生) literally means someone who has come to life (生) before you (先¹). Not simply a teacher but someone who has gone through the same growing pains that you've faced, will face, or never even face. Made similar mistakes as you did, felt the same joys and grief as you did. Someone who has walked the path, someone who will be there to guide you while you complete the journey that is your life. Someone who looks over you so that you may be safe and supported, firm enough that you learn your lessons, but not restricting enough that you don't have the room to expand and grow.
But not everyone is fortunate to have a good teacher. Daniel and Johnny² have both lost their fathers at a young age (8 years old, 5 years old, respectively), and both of them have found a father/mentor figure as a teenager. We viscerally see in Johnny's case that if you are left to be, that if you don't have someone who is there for you to guide you into adulthood, you become lost and blinded and more susceptible to bad influences. It ends up inviting more hurt down the line. For Daniel, Mr. Miyagi was able to fill that role. I don't think we can put him on a pedestal and say that he was the perfect mentor; he was human, and he was fallible just like Kreese. But I think the important thing is that he was present for Daniel and wanted the best for Daniel. Unlike Mr. Miyagi, Kreese's motivation with Johnny seemed more self-serving -- to grow the best karate soldier in the valley. Like, is it true that Johnny was a massive bully in high school? Yes. Is it Johnny's fault that he was a jerk? Not really! Teenagers are just children too. They're taller, stronger, more menacing, but they're still children who are malleable to external input.
Now, Cobra Kai seemed to be flirting with the word legacy. Everyone wants to leave the valley with a legacy. Silver is enticing Da-Eun with the legacy of his sensei in the valley. Daniel thinks he has a legacy to pass on, the right way to do karate, the same karate that has helped him get through his teenage years. But karate really should not be the focal point of the legacy. Even if Mr, Miyagi wasn't his karate teacher, he would have made his life better by just being there for him and guiding him, filling that void that has been left by his absent father and a busy mother. The legacy Daniel really needs to uphold is being there for his children emotionally. Playing the role of a father, not a karate sensei, because they have not lost their fathers yet like he has! He is still their father. He shouldn't really be playing karate sensei to his children! He needs to be someone they can lean on. Same goes for Johnny -- he didn't have the greatest teacher but the lesson he needs to learn is that he can break that cycle of abuse. The void left by his neglectful parents is hard to overcome but it IS possible to grow past that (yes! even at his age!) and learn to be a better father to Robby and Miguel³. He needs to⁴.
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
¹ If I go deeper into etymology, 先 is comprised of 之 'to go' and 儿 'person, legs' and by emphasizing the walking foot, it comes together to mean: to be ahead of other people. but I digress. I love etymology so shhhh let me have it
² I think for Johnny's case, this is not explicit in The Karate Kid movies, but supplied in the Cobra Kai universe
³ and i guess. also. uh. season 5 spoiler content. that i am still gritting my teeth about.
⁴ If anything, he doesn't have to do that alone. He can do that with the rest of the ensemble. This is going into the territory of community vs. nuclear family to raise people but they got a OT4 situation going on. You can even add Chozen there. They can do it all together. Chozen and Daniel are already karate cousins anyways. They can all be one big happy karate family.

starting to think im a bard of void instead of being a knowledge class. i have the whole bardic crisis thing (oct 13 2013. sunday) the whole opposite aspect thing before that (Gifted Kid TM where part of my personality was bring smart. is very lightcore) and just how i seem to destroy everything i touch.
my aversion to lying and how terrible i am at it because its on a physical level in my body and i have to script it in advance (yes this is mostly autism) and not liking to keep secrets and being a blabbermouth. destroying void.
destroyed by void. getting FADED with weed. self isolation and most of my time being spent gaming or on the computer/phone. my awful terrible recurring dreams (dreams are void) that i have a fucking tag for. but the horrors have become almost mundane with how repetitive they are in my dreams and thats why i dont call them nightmares

How to win 'shallow's taste in fictional characters' bingo:
MUST be an assassin or have a similar profession
Weapons of choice are purely optional but bonus points if they use a sword
They do not necessarily need to have powers but it is a bonus if they do, especially if they have ice powers. But they can also just be. Overpowered. Lol.
Irish (optional, not a requirement)
They must be tall, and they must be taller than me specifically (I’m 169cm fyi)
Obviously they must be older than me
Have a tragic or implied tragic backstory
Moral alignment can be all over the shop, I really don’t mind - but bonus points if they have a case of doing a lot of face-heel/heel-face turns
Can be a big monster or have a monsterous form but it’s not a major requirement.
If they are a monster they must have claws and/or be alien-like
Red hair (optional, not a requirement)
Uhhhh that’s all I can think of at the moment. But yeah here’s basic version of ‘shallows taste in fictional characters’ bingo.

I'm watching the final arc of mob psycho season 1 and LOVING how we are introduced to all these super cool looking characters with interesting powers and personalities and then having Mob turn them into sludge instantly because this series only reserves its goregeous animation budget and limited timeslot for when characters are having deep emotional epiphanies about growing up or the nature of being a kind person.
giant anime fights with power hungry bad guys with cool designs but shallow motives? Eh. Dont even bother to show it. Two young brothers having a difficult conversation about the power imbalance in their relationship and how it affected their respective inferiority complexes towards each other? Riveting, gorgeous, tear jerking, dedicate an entire episode to it.

Tuvok is such a dad but I think we can think of more creative/nuanced relationships for him beyond that. For example: I think he should be B’Elanna’s worst enemy and religious mirror.
