okay take about 430g of flour and 2 tps of yeast and 2 tps of salt, and put all that in a bowl you haven't greased. pour some water and mix, you'll want it to be sticky and gooey. okay so then when you like it you cover it up, and you let it sit room temperature somewhere for 2-3 hours until it doubles. if it hasn't doubled just wait longer, or maybe your yeast isn't doing it's job right, in any case it doesn't matter whatever we make will be edible in the end even if it wasn't what you were going for. you can use this time to preheat your oven to maybe about 475 F, idk what that is celcius sorry. once you're ready, you'll probably have enough dough for two loaves, so plop that big gooey baby on a floured surface and cut it roughly in half. then you can put them on some greased pans and bake for idk 20 minutes. you can always do more. you can also score the bread before it goes in, that's when you cut it on top. frankly, idk even why you do that, science or something. anyway, that's how you make bread. yeah yeah, baking is supposed to be precise, blah blah blah. do it once like this, and maybe it's wrong. maybe you live on a mountain or you use too much water or whatever. fine. it'll still be edible and you can just do it again and fix it and fix it and fix it until you can make bread just the way you like it. if our cave dwelling ancestors figured out how to make shitty pieces of bread by a cave fire with naught a worry but yum yum yummy in my tum tum tummy you can use your high tech oven and figure out how to make a four ingredient bread by doing some goof ups. don't let baking scare you. you aren't making petit four for a queen. you're making some yum yum for your tum tum to save $7.85 each week. do it. do it now. go make some bread.

Last night I got 9 variation grilled cheese requests. For convenience sake, I will be compressing all of their reviews to this one post. All the other reviews will be under a read me.
Killed Cheese
Ingredients: Normal grilled cheese but at the last minute you betray your creation. Stick the sharpest butter knife you have into it and surround the hole with ketchup. Oh the horror.
Smell: Grilled cheese with an extra sweetness from the ketchup. Not bad. 4/5
Taste: I’d rather most other red sauces, or just tomato soup really. But I do like ketchup. 4/5
Texture: Not much has changed. 5/5
Would Chunk Eat It?: Yes. 5/5
Final Score: 4.5/5
Critics Notes: I am a fiend for ketchup but it’s not the right fit for grilled cheese.
Villed cheese
Ingredients: A vilified grilled cheese. Nefarious. Evil. This is a normal grilled cheese except the cheese is a used sponge.

Texture: Even worse. 1/5

I am in Athens and tomorrow I am going to Tbilisi
Athens is cool at first I was scared and kept thinking I was gonna get pick pocketed but it’s actually extremely chill here. I’ve been wearing the same outfit the whole time tracksuit pants and cardigan and hoodie with the addition of fleece and long sleeve and two puffer jackets and scarf wrapped around my head today and gloves coz it was like 10 degrees lol soooo not that bad but it felt hellish to me it’s gonna get sooooo much worse and I’m scared
Ummm yeah having withdrawals too so I’ve been sleeping a lot and feeling irritable but I’m optimistic that I’ll be feeling more normal soon
I didn’t go to any of the ancient ruins coz they cost money so I just saw them from a distance
Just tonnes of walking and eating
Food:
Tis theatrou to steki twice now…first time was better..first time I was like 😍 marinated anchovies and vegetables in vinegar and garlic and bread and saganaki w lots of lemon 😍 second time we got like an omelette which was average and meatballs which were boring and such a bad choice by me hmm kinda just like eating bread with little accompaniments rather than bigger dishes, cheap place
Went to some place max’s friend recommended that had vinyl records as placemats and we had this amazing soup with ceviche but after that dish it wasn’t as yum it was like a big stir fry type thing and that’s just not really my thing but max really enjoyed it and also some coconut rice thing which again meh I don’t really care but that’s just vegetarian food I’m so meh but also again I am in a state of withdrawal so maybe I’m just pretty anhedonic. We did get a little carafe of wine which was soooooo good and also some digestif after I forget what it was called but similar to ouzo super strong and when we got home I passed out I felt so drunk
We went to Atlantikos this like tourist famous fish restaurant for lunch and it was good yeh idk max was really into it we had squid and it was fine idk I think we ordered badly coz I was jealous looking at some of the other tables
We had giros at o kavourras which was so effing yum
We’ve also had a couple falafel wraps
I keep waking up super early it’s funny coz my sleeping pattern is so fucked up in Melbourne it’s like super normal here I wake up at 7am like 🤩and then have to wait til midday for max to wake up but anyway yeah it’s crazy I’m like early bird here but for some reason I don’t wanna leave the apartment without max I could probs go walk around and get a coffee but I’ve just been chilling on my phone and reading my kindle hmmmm until like 1pm when we leave the apartment , after about 5000 steps im fucking done and Need to rest before I can keep going..
Currently in bed and gonna go back out at some point idk I have these Greek cigarettes I might have one later but only one

(I apologise for the state of my phone camera! I tried my best! You drop your phone in a wet trench and it's never the same after...)
So, a few years ago I ended up helping at the bring and buy book shop that ran in my local village, where I was mostly the muscle who hauled around, went through and put out the boxes of books that would get donated (and there were a lot!)
The idea of going through the donations was to weed out books that weren't able to be sold on, whether they were in too poor a condition (mouldy, incomplete), something we already have a million copies of (50 shades), or just wholly unsuitable! (I'll leave that to your imagination!) I didn't mind doing it as I could just pop in my headphones and zone out for a couple of hours.
So, there I was one Saturday, listening to my tunes and sorting through donations when I came across a very old, grungy book, held together with sticky tape and with only its front cover. Now, old books fascinate me, so I opened it up to the copyright page and almost fell over when I read MDCCCXL - 1840! At that point I knew this thing was coming home with me! And for a grand total of 25p, it did!

If you can't see what the cover says, it's 'Domestic Cookery By A Lady.' This is also repeated on the copyright page.

Look! Isn't it awesome? Now, I would love to show you every page, but there's a lot, and I'm showing you two books, so you'll just get the highlights, I'm afraid.
First things first though, here's something that I love about this book.

See that? The pages all still have indents from the printing press, even after 183 years!

The contents! As you can see, this book covers a lot! It's not just recipes. There's directions on carving, guidence on servants ('One is never to retain a cook who is not fond of her occupation.' for instance, and 'A servant must possess a natural regard for cleanliness, or all the pains in the world will never render her cleanly.'), guidence for servants (aka, how to clean everything!) a wide variety of recipes as well as how to pick the best produce and when certain things are in season.

And just as this book couldn't get any more awesome, it's got pictures too!

Go look at that last picture again for me. You see those dark splodges on the right of the page? Know what they are? They're fingerprints! Fingerprints! Proof that somebody touched and used this book all those years ago! You can't tell me that's not awesome!
I will admit that I have not tried any recipes out of this book, so no misadventures, but I love reading them. There are some that I'm not sure I'd even want to try!

I was wondering why Cure Sky’s design felt a little familiar, and it was only when someone joked that she was a Snow Miku that I realized…
Her hairstyle being pigtails and having a gradient from blue to pink kind of reminds me of Yan Keke, from Balala the Fairies: Magic Star Fate Castle. 😆
I mean, they’ve got the gradient from blue to pink in the hair, the pigtails, the straight bangs (that even vary in style across the whole shape), the things on the top of the head (wings vs cat ears), the bared shoulders even with sleeves, the yellow/gold heels on their boots, the bow(s) at the waist, the heart on their collar accessory…

There is also the fact that this is the first time we’re getting a leader that’s not a pink Cure (or isn’t equated to pink, the way Cure Black sometimes is)—and is also a blue Cure. Balala the Fairies has been known for having non-pink leaders before, as seen with the yellow lead Shirley (Xiao Lan)’s prominence in the early seasons up to Finding Melody, but also with Azure (Na Xiya), who was the blue lead in Ocean Magic.
Don’t get me wrong though!! Even if I find the parallels amusing, I’m not dunking on Precure or anything lol. I’ve just personally found it fun how the latest Precure seasons constantly have reminded me of Balala the Fairies in some way, which is just like…a little fun detail I enjoy as a fan of both ahaha.
For example, Tropical Rouge Precure does vaguely remind me of Balala the Fairies: Ocean Magic, if only because their themes are both island-esque. I guess the different coloured strips of hair (and gradients) and the purposefully multi-coloured eyes—with Ocean Magic featuring stars while Tropical Rouge features hearts in the eyes—also help make the parallel a bit more evident, although the designs aren’t necessarily that similar overall.

And of course Healin’ Good Precure’s Cure Sparkle is actually quite similar to Amy (Yin Xiaomin) from Balala the Fairies: Over the Rainbow…and this similarity does have me raising an eyebrow more, if only because the coincidences in design here are way more obvious. 😂
I know a lot of people joked about Precure taking design ideas from Balala back then, which is a fun turnaround considering Balala’s first few seasons started by being inspired by magical girls shows (and specifically Precure) lol.

I actually did wonder if Precure was—as some anime recently have—focusing a bit on the Chinese market, what with Cure Yum-Yum’s introduction, which is obviously Chinese-themed. I mean, it does make sense to introduce a Chinese-themed Cure for the season about food, although I did find it kind of funny since Cure Precious is Japanese-themed, Cure Yum-Yum is Chinese-themed, and then I guess…Cure Spicy is western-themed because…bread? It makes her category feel a little more underrepresented though ahaha.
I actually really like Cure Yum-Yum’s design despite my slight griping about her falling into many of the Japanese anime tropes about what makes an outfit/character visibly Chinese (the hair ornament-like buns that are reminiscent of buns, the qipao-inspired dress, and…well, it’s not in Cure Yum-Yum’s design but is in her family’s restaurant: the excessive amounts of pandas). At least they didn’t pull a Shaman King and slap a panda right on her chest slfjskdjs.

Despite containing a visible reference to China, Delicious Party Precure’s designs don’t remind me as much of Balala the Fairies… Although if I had to force a parallel, maybe I’d draw one with Finding Melody? I think it’s just because Cure Precious’ pigtails along with the rest of her hair being down reminds me of Michelle Lin (Lin Meixue), the pink character for that season…plus the big heart being in the centre of the bow tie at their chest, along with some of the ruffles on their sleeves and skirt, and even with their flower-shaped hair accessories holding the pigtails in place along with a headband, and finally with their skirt’s shape opening to reveal an underskirt. 😆

Final note though: I make these comparisons all in good fun! Especially since magical girl designs will obviously cycle through similar design choices and elements and tropes, so don’t think of this as a diss. I like both series and as an overall donghua fan I can’t help but insert my fascination with donghua wherever I go, and I haven’t been able to help making such parallels since the Cure Sparkle comparison to Amy (Yin Xiaomin) all those years ago ahaha.
Anyway, I’m actually quite excited for Hirogaru Sky Precure!! I haven’t posted about Precure in quite some time (not since Hugtto), but I do enjoy the fandom from the periphery now and I get hyped for every season’s new designs. I was especially hooked by Cure Yum-Yum’s design for Delicious Party, although I did hear that that season was rather lacklustre, so I look forward to Hirogaru, since it seems like they’re pulling out all the stops for the series’ 20th anniversary. 👀
I mean, after all these years of asking, we’re finally getting a boy Cure!! I do still think Rio and Henri were kind of robbed of that chance in Kirakira and Hugtto respectively, although I understand the need for baby steps. But seriously, Rio would have worked so well as Cure Waffle…
And hey, at least this means we’ll see Cure Wing get a proper transformation sequence!! To bring this post back since I got sidetracked here, this kind of reminds me of my excitement over Prince Noah (Youle-wangzi) from Balala the Fairies: Finding Melody, who also got his own transformation sequence!
I guess even Cure Butterfly’s role as the older one in the group (being the first Cure to be 18—although I do agree she seems younger than the previously established 17-year-old Cures) can be considered reminiscent of Shirley (Xiao Lan)’s role as the older member of the Balala the Fairies team for multiple seasons, since she’s 19-years-old—physically anyway, as it is hinted she and Noah (Youle) could be actually around 100.

^ (Bonus Note: The above shot is still my favourite [from the Finding Melody OP] because like…all they did was touch hands while grabbing popcorn but then they react like this… It still cracks me up that Noah (Youle) is drawn “like a shy girl” here bwahaha. But yeah, he and Shirley (Xiao Lan) did make for a cute ship. ^^)
Alright, to wrap this up, here’s to a new good season of Precure! I’m looking forward to it~ And of course, a happy 20th anniversary to these badass girls (and now one boy)! 🥂

You know what I would like to taste someday? Viking honey mead. It just sounds so good and I can almost smell the honey from it. Don't know how to make mead but I might someday try to make some viking bread to eat with soup.

I'm not a big drinker because I just think most alcohol is kinda nasty (call me childish 🙄), but I love sweet drinks like that!

I'm going to use my little tumblr blog to keep myself on track during the holiday season. So if this isn't for you...please just skip this post.
Trying to maintain my current weight/ previous weight loss during December is not easy. (if you don't know...I lost around 40 pounds almost 2 years ago and I've managed to maintain it -- which is the longest I've maintained such a weight loss) My goal is to lose 10 more pounds starting in Jan....but for now let's just try to maintain in December. It is not easy around the holidays....not easy at all. I like freshly baked bread, chips and chocolate. These food groups are my areas of downfall. Like croissants or bread right out the oven with butter....YUM....omg...stop. Soooo this is why I'm here writing this.
I bought a very not fancy pedometer on amazon so i can keep my daily steps up without having to use a phone or anything...I just want something simple...that i can reset daily. I write my total daily number on my notes app and then reset the pedometer before bed. lol Honestly it's been the best thing...this low tech pedometer that clips onto my shoe or can fit in my pocket. Who knew? No constant dings/wifi/bluetooth needed. Lovely.
I'm also trying to do my cardio workout 5x a week this month. Trying being the key word.
I'm going to give myself 7 days in December to take off from watching myself. Not all 7 in a row... cause I could easily gain 7 pounds in 7 days if I did that. I figure 2 around xmas and 1 for new years and then 3 the rest of this month. I already took one...so technically I'm at 6.
I'm also trying to intermittent fast 16:8. So YEAH let's see how that plays out. lmao I downloaded this app called Zero and am trying it out. It sets a timer for me...so I can visually see when my fast starts/is supposed to end. I normally don't eat until 11am most days anyways so this isn't a big stretch for me. Just adding an hour or two to my fast.
so yeah..... I'll let you all know how this turns out later this month. I figure by writing this all out here...it'll help kick my ass into motivation. I've struggled with weight loss/keeping weight off for most of my life -- so I'll check back in at the end of the month on my results from this plan.
If anyone else struggles with this during the holidays...I feel you. I really do.

I was asked by a good friend to really give this one my all and then some, so prepare for a lot of flavor text, ehehe.
Risotto: From Sicily he brings his love of traditional Peperonata, brewed rather thick and served with some crusty bread for mopping, as well as the conviction that soup, whether simple or complex, should be a complete meal onto itself. You won't see him serving anything on the clear or thin side because it might as well be a drink then; Ribollita and French Onion Soup are his idea of good vegetarian home cooking, and if he makes soup with meat, he will buy up the cheap cuts, bone in, and load the pot to the brim.
Formaggio: He will always take what he can get of course, but you won't catch him ordering soup anywhere, because the ones he truly cares for are either the sort of home cooking restaurants often scoff at like the humble Stracciatella, or something restaurants often get wrong such as authentic Goulash. The latter especially is his darling and he wants it home cooked with carrots, potatoes and egg noodles, but Risotto's best efforts still do not compare to how he remembers it from his mother's table.
Prosciutto: He will only touch soup if it's strong enough in itself - he would never order any with the idea of fixing it in post by adding chili. From mildest to hottest, he would appreciate a concentrated Beef Bouillon with or without the trimmings, might also like Frutta Di Mare All'acqua Pazza if the water is "crazy" enough, and would love a good Tom Yum, but his prime favorite would be a bone marrow soup like Bulalo, where there's plenty of richness and flavorful meat to go around. He must have all the marrow, of course.
Pesci: He's on the opposite end of the spectrum from Prosciutto due to his acid reflux and prefers his soups on the mild side while also eschewing those with a tomato base or onions if he can help it. You cannot go wrong with a classic Chicken Noodle, but he especially likes smooth vegetable soups like butternut squash with toasted croutons on top, and he would be first in line for anything that uses cream or other dairy, like Seafood Chowder (any type of chowder would be a big hit with him) or Yayla Çorbası.
Ghiaccio: He is at odds with soup because to his mind it's not a proper meal, and there are textures and flavors he finds repulsive, so it's a struggle. When he has any, it's usually small portions he can quickly drink or eat: clear bone broth is as close as he can venture to bouillon because the meaty flavor is negligible, and he appreciates your standard Miso for the tofu and the crunch of green onions and beansprouts, as long as the bean paste is mild. If he had the means or access, he would love the concept of Nabemono in general.
Melone: In his sickly childhood he ate a lot of Acquacotta, which he still craves sometimes despite having developed a gluten allergy, and unfortunately for him, the list of forbidden delights does not stop there. He loves a good Zuppa Imperiale, but again, the semolina in the dough cubes is a menace, and anything made with cream will avenge itself unless he takes his Lactaid. Of the soups he can safely have, he has most taken to Borscht for the excellent taste as well as its vibrant color, and has proclaimed it a health food.
Illuso: This one, in spite of his upbringing, is a soup purist who believes that soup is strictly a first course, and therefore it should be something simple and light that is easy on the stomach and whets your appetite for the rest of the meal. He loves Gazpacho and could drink it like a smoothie, and is fond of Caldo Verde with its single slice of chorizo (it's like finding the prize in your Galette de Rois), but in winter he will branch out and have Minestra di Noci as often as they can get walnuts, perhaps with some chestnuts added in.
Sorbet: Here we have someone who appreciates a wider range, but having grown up on odds-and-ends type soups often poorly made, his standards are now much higher even for something as simple as plain Caraway Soup, and he has been working on improving them all. His favorite by far is any type of lentil soup such as Minestra di Lenticchie or Masoor Dal, for the taste as well as lentils symbolizing abundance, and when he craves something sweet, any Fruit Soup will be welcome before savory main courses, hot or chilled.
Gelato: Cannot live without soup and never met one he did not like; in fact he regularly cooks a variety of them including Fruit Soup, though to him that is in the dessert category. His greatest favorites are made with sausage or entrails: think Fabada for the chorizo or Menudo for the tripe, as well as any type of meatball soup. He's not big on pasta in soup (he prefers egg noodles), but if the ravioli is filled with ground offal (mostly liver or heart, as kidney and lungs are much harder to come by nowadays), he will gladly have it.
