Can I be real for a second? I don't think L giving a foot massage to Light was very in-character of him. Like manga!L would've totally scoffed at how pathetic anime!L appeared when he did that.
I like the rain scene bc it's really pretty (also Light MOANS bc of L? *sighs* yeah i ship lawlight) but I'm always so ?? at anime!L's behavior? The anime made L way too melancholic and y'know self-deprecating kinda guy. In contrast, manga!L (whom I love to death) is so so confident in doing what he's doing and has the time of his life during the Kira case as he's intellectually challenged (by Light) as he figures out the case little by little.
I don't get where the anime creators got the idea that L is a very sad character who cares about justice so much so that he's actually Justice itself? Manga!L enjoys solving cases. I'm not saying that L doesn't care about justice at all- just that he cares more about winning.
So, the anime creators looked at a character who cares about winning (& his own ego) than everything else and decided to... make him give a foot massage to his nemesis (surprise surprise bible symbolism featuring L as Jesus *🤮* coming up) apparently due to accepting Light's (boy's first debut as Judas) 'betrayal' how can there be betrayal when there was no trust between them in the first place and saying "It is the least I can do to atone for my sins"...
The only way I could've made a little sense of this is if L was mocking Kira with that line but the anime just had to go above & beyond to make it (L's actions) seem too genuine for that to be true. which is. so. FRUSTRATING
Manga!L wouldn't have done anything like that. Not even ironically (he'd have thought it to be below him for pretending to be accepting his defeat mockingly to Kira). Even Manga!L's not enough of a bastard to try to compare himself with Jesus (and just after knowing (god knows how) that he's going to die)- like that's too stupid omg: even for a mockery.
Does he actually think that Light would pick up on the (him as Jesus) symbolism and be like 'oh no! L is too noble like Jesus to die by my betrayal i'm such a bad judas how come i NEVER NOTICED THIS BEFORE'... and decide to spare L's life? Or embrace his inner Judas like the bad bitch he is and finish L for that godawful mockery of Jesus?
Whenever I think about Anime!Light's in-character reaction I crack up as it would be smth like 'wow this guy who graduated summa cum laude from torture university is pretending to be Jesus? lol what a real piece of work. would've expected better from you L: so pathetic lmao i hope rem kills you soon i'm so done with you rn- rip 💀'
Manga!L (if he knew he were going to die (don't know how that's possible in the anime; still we're talking about how the anime creators seem to see L as Jesus so ~anything is possible~) that is) would never go 'guess i'll die' accept his defeat offering a foot massage to his enemy and inwardly throw a pity party being all "… It'll be lonely, won't it?" GIRL you were the one going on & about how you'd EXECUTE Kira once you catch him on live tv (also saying that you'd bring Kira's head to the task force) I REALLY doubt you'd feel lonely if either one of you were to die- that (killing each other) was the point!!
Manga!L is a selfish character: he values his victory above all else so the anime making him accept defeat that easily + gracefully doesn't sit well with me.

New favorite campaign: normal arti shinanigans, but with your lesbian partner that is occasionally incapacitated by a mysterious illness in which she throws up infinite rocks.
Really enjoying the narrative of the pups being orphaned and getting picked up by a lesbian couple. Instead of one mother on a quest for vengance, it's two very traumatized and sick women trying to redeem themselves enough to ascend. Or so I assume. Really, my buddy is showing me the way and I'm just trying not to die.
On the illness side of things, one of the 3 dozen mods I got malfunctioned in a really weird way. Randomly, and oftentimes at the worst possible moment, the game is convinced my buddy 1) has something in his stomach, and 2) is trying to regurgitate it. So it defaults to rocks, I guess? Idk I'm just guessing based on what I see. In any case, there's something VERY funny about trying to fight scavs and dodge dlls only for your buddy to fall over and vom anywhere from 2 to 5 rocks in a row, all while desperately trying to get up and run.
More context: were were communicating almost exclusively thru slug-sign, and we were still learning it, so it was extremely difficult to, like, talk. At all. I'm seriously considering changing it a bit, myself. There's a startling lack of "oops" and "thanks!" and "LMAO WHAT DID YOU JUST DO??"

Darius: Alright, listen up, you little shits. *Stops and looks at the small group of rebels* Not you, Hunter. You’re an angel and we’re thrilled to have you here.
Hunter: *Blinking in surprise, but just happy to be safe.*
Raine and The Catts: *Looking at Darius, because even though they’re thrilled to have Hunter here, they know very well that he is not an angel, and that he also bites when he feels threatened.*
Eber: *On Darius shoulder nodding happily in agreement. Despite knowing that Hunter’s not an angel, and knowing that he’s the one who taught Hunter how to bite when he feels threatened.*

I attempted some art based on my own raincode fic, Under The Weather. This is my favorite scene and I wanted to try drawing it >w<
God I live for making Yuma act like a clingy little kid whenever he’s sick. It does say he complains and whines frequently in general. Just imagine him with a cold, the whining would probably be even worse x’D
Was also a good chance for me to experiment with drawing/coloring the pale and flush complexion of a cold rather than a fever. I think I did pretty decent! Poor thing. He needs some TLC ;w; and maybe more tissues... XD (the sofa’s turned into a sickbed lmao)
At least the NDA is there for him, especially the Chief 💙 (more yakou fathero because caretaker yakou is my religion)
🤧💦 Version (where his nose is running)

Hey y'all! Slightly weird question, but you know I love making and giving themed gift sets:
Do you have any recommendations for board books or picture books with a sunshine or lemonade kind of theme?
The set so far is a pink and orange and yellow quilt, a plushie sun, and a pair of pink and yellow baby booties with lemon slices all over them. It's good as-is, but I think if I can find a book to tie them all together it'd be even better

I remember someone sending an ask about Darius coming to the human realm after Hunter in the worst timeline AU, but also. Raine would absolutely go after Luz, too. That’s their witchlet.
🥺
yeah you are 100% right. i feel like raine at first is involved in whatever the fuck is going on with the isles' government after having their monarchy collapse, bc raine's first priority is typically Keeping Things From Falling To Pieces For The Common People, but once they're sure that the world is stable enough for them to leave for a little while.......... Yeagh
raine sees luz and even if it's been a few months since hunter arrived in the human world, luz still looks Significantly More Wrecked than she did in the isles, and raine IMMEDIATELY shifts into Fretful Parent mode. luz have you been Eating. where do you sleep?? are you warm enough?? when was the last time you got any sunshine. have you been to any human healers. how are you feeling. what's going on with you
while camila is like. ....okay. who are you and how am i supposed to feel about you being here.

to me, the question of whether hera would want a body is first and foremost a question of autonomy and ability. she has an internal self-image, i think it's meaningful that the most pivotal moments in her character arc take place in spaces where she can be perceived the way she perceives herself and interact with others in a (relatively) equal and physical capacity, and that's worth considering. but i don't think it's about how she looks, or even who she is - and i think she's the same person either way; she's equally human without a body, and having a body wouldn't make her lived experience as an AI magically disappear - so much as it's about how she would want to live.
like most things with hera, i'm looking at this through a dual lens of disability and transness, both perspectives from which the body - and particularly disconnect from the body - is a concern. the body as the mechanism by which she's able to interact with the world; understanding her physical isolation as a product of her disability, the body as a disability aid. the body as it relates to disability, in constant negotiation. the body as an expression of medical transition, of self-determination, of choice. as a statement of how she wants to be seen, how she wants to navigate the world, and at the same time reckoning with the inevitable gap between an idealized self-image and a lived reality, especially after a long time spent believing that self-image could never be visible to anyone else.
it's critical to me that it should never imply hera's disability is 'fixed' by having a body, only that it enables her to interact with the world in ways she otherwise couldn't. her fears about returning to earth are about safety and ability; the form she exists in dictates the life she's allowed to lead and has allowed people to invade her privacy and make choices for her. dysphoria and disability both contribute to disembodiment - in an increasingly digitized world, the type of alienation that feels like your life can only exist in a virtual space... maybe there's something about the concept of AI embodiment, in particular as it relates to hera, that appeals to me because of what it challenges about what makes a 'real woman.' when it's about perception, about how others see her and how she might observe / be impacted by how she's treated differently, even subconsciously. it's about feeling more present in her life and interfacing with the world. but it's not in itself a becoming; it doesn't change how she's been shaped by her history or who she is as a person.
i think it comes back to the 'big picture' as a central antagonistic force in wolf 359, and how - in that context, in this story - it adds a weight to this hypothetical choice. hera is everywhere, and she's never really anywhere. she's got access to more knowledge than most people could imagine, but it's all theoretical or highly situational; she doesn't have the same life experiences as her peers. she has the capacity to understand that 'big picture' better than most people, but whatever greater portion of the universe she understands is nothing next to infinity and meaningless without connection and context. it's interesting to me that hera is one of the most self-focused and introspective people on the show. her loyalties and decisions are absolute, personal, emotionally driven. she's lonely; she always feels physically away from the others. she misremembers herself sitting at the table with the rest of the crew. she imagines what the ocean is like. there's nothing to say that hera having a body is the only solution for that, but i like what it represents, and i honestly believe it'd make her happier than the alternatives. if there's something to a symbolically narrowed focus that allows for a more solid sense of self... that maybe the way to make something of such a big, big universe is to find a tiny portion of it that's yours and hold onto it tight.

[id: two images of digital drawings of some rain world slugcat ocs. the first image features the scrapper and the hideaway. scrapper is a brown slugcat with a dewlap and round ears, and a darker face, tail, and a heart-shaped marking on his chest. he has scarred hands and is wearing green goggles with red lenses atop his head. the hideaway is a dark red slugpup with a lighter torso, face, and tail, and a heart-shaped marking on her chest. she has a large cut in her right ear.
in the first image, there are a few drawings of the hideaway: one of her on all fours, leaning very far backward with a scrunched up face; sitting on her haunches and gazing at nowhere, looking haunted; and standing up with her arms outstretched, her face bright and happy. the last drawing is of the scrapper walking along, glancing back over their shoulder. the hideaway is perched on their back and is also glancing backward.
in the second image are colorless sketches of the scrapper and the hideaway, as well as the current and the monarch. the current is a lanky slugcat with several antenna on his body, and the monarch is a scarred slugcat with a torn ear and frills on her cheeks and underside. there are sketches of: an upper body of the monarch winking and doing a thumbs up with an uncannily realistic human hand; scrapper intensely examining the hideaway's cut ear, gently holding her head in their hands, looking worried; and current laying on the ground, his head in one hand and looking grumpy, while the monarch is flopped over his back and is peering at him innocently. end id]

There are a handful of lines that I feel are important™ when analyzing or understanding Halsin as a character, but I think the one that sums him up best is, very simply, the Dryad's: "Halsin: nature's gentle steward - and furious defender."
