Hi! I'm new here (here being your blog, calendiles fandom, and also just...Buffyverse fandom in general? I haven't been here that long haha) and I finally got around to checking out your work on AO3 and uuuhhh you've written SO MUCH!!! So first of all, THAT'S AMAZING, GOOD JOB!! But second of all, I have no idea where to start reading... Can I maybe get like a rec from you of your top 5 faves? (Not fan faves, but YOUR faves, fics/series you're most proud of, etc.) Please and thank you :)

oh, wow, this is so sweet <333 hello! i have seen your fic in the buffyverse tag and lurked more than once there. expect some reviews at SOME point when my brain will allow me, because you are adding some excellent sapphic/nonbinary representation to the buffyverse in a very lovely way. i deeply appreciate your energy.

as for my top five faves -- i appreciate your specification that they have to be MY top five faves, because i really was about to just point to the braveryverse as smth that i think you personally might like. (not a single straight person, found family, etcetc). but my personal top five is a lil different than the stuff that's the most popular w/ fandom at large. (not by too much though.)

all of these range from "a little lengthy" to "novel-length" but i think they are worth it! and they are also all complete! (except for the first one on the list, which has a sequel in the works, but everything PUBLISHED is complete!)

1. never mind the years of wasted time

so this is my long-standing baby that i am blogging about all the time! it's so important to me! i cannot overemphasize how much this 'verse means to me. it's an improbable little everybody lives/nobody dies au set about three years after canon, and in my heart it does kind of stand as a spiritual follow-up to canon, in that the emotional place that giles starts the story is very much a continuation of the emotional place that he ends canon in. there are so many details within the main fic (what you make) that i cannot pack into a single summary (giles and jenny's eight-year-old son, who she left sunnydale to raise! giles and buffy trying to figure out how to reckon with the concept of giles being a parent to a kid that isn't her! jenny's adoring extended family! a subplot that is literally just all about how giles's parents met and fell in love! giles and jenny's individual baggage from their complicated parents and how that informed the decisions they made with each other and with/for the kids they were in charge of!) also it is impossible to read the fic and come away NOT loving art or alice or nora. nora is literally my url now because i tricked myself into loving her so hard by writing her all the time.

anyway yes! top of my list, this is the thing i am the most proudest of, it is literally novel-length and i have been considering learning book-binding just because i want the physical experience of making it into something that i can hold.

2. as day follows night

this is also long but um, less long? this is The Faith Fic. i don't really know how to talk about it without spoiling it (or if i've already talked about it and spoiled it, or if the tags will spoil it...) but suffice it to say that this fic is about faith right after killing the deputy mayor, and her decision to ally herself with an all-powerful witch. or more like "attach herself." like to the witch's skirts. and hang on while the witch drags her around trying to get her to let go. (this girl has some attachment issues). it's got fuffy it's got fairy tales it's got the force of platonic love being the most powerful force in the world <3 and i think it is the first long fic i ever wrote where i had an outline and a plot that made sense and consistent tone throughout!

3. the tale of princess imogen

FAIRYTALE CALENDILES WHAT MORE CAN I EVEN SAY??? also some background fuffy and tillow bc obviously! anyway this whole fic is about jenny the witch pining helplessly for giles the acting monarch and losing her mind a little when princess buffy lets it slip that he's in love with some dark-haired lady who's constantly hanging around the castle all the time. and then subsequently coming up with a Magic Plan to ruin his chances of ever being able to win this dark-haired lady over, because what if she's bad for the kingdom? what if she's just trying to grab at power? THIS IS FOR POLITICAL REASONS SHE IS VERY NORMAL.

4. illumination

this one is about giles and jenny both realizing that they share the experience of being closeted bisexual individuals in a het-passing relationship & subsequently figuring out how to process this. (so obviously chapter three is pegging. but it's THEMATICALLY IMPORTANT pegging. and if explicit stuff isn't your cup of tea, the first two chapters are totally sfw!)

5. private life

i am actually really proud of this one! this is set in season four and it's about xander walking in on giles kissing a man and having to reckon with a lot of complicated internalized biphobia. i love xander so much. of course he has to make this list. (and this is DEFINITELY the shortest fic on this list lmao.)

also honorable mentions to north star and it's the principle of the thing, which are the fics that i write when i'm not feeling like writing a Big Complicated Interlock-y project, so if you wanna read something of mine that will (uh, someday) be updated and is still in progress, that would be where to go right now until the what you make sequel shows up! north star is essentially a (mostly) scooby genfic that's set in season six where willow resurrects jenny to prove herself to giles, and it deals with the fallout of that. it's the principle of the thing is a super trope-y fic about giles and jenny getting green card married in the middle of season one because that's what you do when your workplace enemy might have to leave :) you propose marriage so he can't :) it's normal :) she's normal :) she's fine :) do not look her in the eye

Now and then, I have this habit of taking some time to reminisce about things. I’m one of those people who tend to stick to old favorites, staying passionate about said things even if I don’t actively engage with the fandom anymore; they’ll always have a place in my heart and I think of these things I love on a regular basis.

One of these things is the VocaUTAU fandom, which I interacted with a lot back in the day as Ritsu Namine’s RPer here on Tumblr.

Ritsu still is my favorite virtual singer of all - I still listen to many of the songs and covers - it’s amazing to see how far the character and his voice provider have come; and it’s tons of fun to remember all the moments I had interpreting him and doing my own PV projects (despite being terrible at tuning USTs!), fanarts and even going as far as to do cosplay.

These are definitely happy memories that I cherish. And when I’m going through hard times, I tend to think about such things.

This was my first post in Ritsu’s blog; 12 years ago! It’s truly amusing to revisit all the posts and even cringe at myself a little thanks to my own immaturity (and slightly incorrect English) in both IC and OOC. Many of those posts were rather chaotic...

Though I still quite like how I interpreted him back in the day, ahaha.

I still feel like Ritsu is part of me, the petty, child-like and somewhat stubborn part of me. He also was my very first experience with an openly queer character and I feel like that helped broaden my horizons and understand things better as well; though I already was pretty aware I was sapphic, the concept of gender was a somewhat late reveal!

Looking back now, it makes a lot of sense why it felt so comfortable to interpret him.

I lost the access to Ritsu’s account as the email it used was deleted by Outlook due to inactivity, and Tumblr had the amazing idea of not giving people an alternative to log back into their accounts after the data leak that forced users to change their password - something that required the email originally linked to the blog in question.

The old URL I had before changing to ritsu73, namineritsu, is linked in the old RP HQ blog. See that Namine Ritsu? It was me! I don’t know who’s the current owner of that URL, though.

As for the current URL, ritsu73... I’ve been holding it as a sideblog of mine, since Tumblr adds a “-blog” to the URL of blogs that’ve gone inactive - as you can see on my posts linked in this small text. I probably won’t do anything with it, but I can’t seem to let it go due to my attachment to the blog and the memories I have thanks to it.

If you have read until now, thank you so much for your attention! I don’t know if you have come across Ritsu’s blog in the past when it was active 12 years ago, or if you happened to find some post while searching or if you hadn’t even heard of it until now...

...but still, it’s really nice of you to stay and read through my long, reminiscing babbling. I appreciate it, truly.

Blogger Interview

Thank you so much to @cinlat and @jeswii for tagging me in this - I am sorry it took so long to do, but it was fun! Tagging, let's see, @verbose-vespertine @tishinada @itstheelvenjedi NO PRESSURE.

Why did you choose your url?

It's from my Ao3 account name which was made first. August - I actually don't remember why. Rain - well, I like the rain and I could not think of anything else. For Tumblr I added Sith at the end because my main is an Old Republic Sith (not to be confused with a post-Darth Bane Sith) and because 'rainofaugust' was actually taken.

Any sideblogs?

I have Rain Plays SWTOR, which is a player guide to the Star Wars: The Old Republic game I played for years. I wanted to make a guide that would explain some of the things I found confusing when I first played, give some helpful tips, and break down content to make it more playable for people. I especially liked concentrating on parts of the game that were considered group content and showing solo players how to get through it.

I stopped playing SWTOR when 7.0 hit, although to be honest I'd been, overall, unhappy with the story since the end of KOTFE. Having said that I've left the sideblog up because a lot of what I wrote might still help those playing the game.

How long have you been on tumblr?

Since 2017.

Why did you originally start your blog?

I started it because I noticed there were a lot of sapphic/wlw fans of Star Wars here, and one doesn't really find that elsewhere too much.

Why did you choose your icon?

It's artwork that was made by the wonderful of my main, Viri. It's such a lovely picture of her, and I thought it was perfect for an icon.

Why did you choose your header?

It's from my favorite part of my favorite flashpoint in SWTOR - A Traitor Among the Chiss. It's a little too long, and when it was released it was far too tedious, but aside from that I feel that the Copero flashpoint represents everything SWTOR could have been. It's got absolutely beautiful, detailed design that you could spend hours exploring - a city with little alleys you can explore; stunning scenery; a flashpoint that includes puzzles and not just 'destroy it all' gameplay; really good decorations and armor as drops; and even a transition from day to night. This scene is toward the end, where the PC ascends a staircase in some ancient ruins at twilight. It's such a beautiful backdrop that I always stopped to admire it during the flashpoint.

What is your post with the most notes?

There's one with like 10K notes, and it's about Diana Serra Cary, who was the last surviving silent film star. I wrote it few days after she died. That one still shows up in my reblogs now and then. There's another where I was talking about cultural appropriation of Jewish ritual items and the Hebrew alphabet in various media that has a few thousand reblogs.

I actually don't know.

Have you ever made a shitpost?

Not intentionally.

How many times do you use tumblr a day?

I more or less have it open in the background for messages and such, even if I'm not actively on the site.

Have you ever fought another blog?

Not really. A few of the fandom sheriffs and Lana Hate Club sorts have tried to start drama with me in the past, and in general my policy has been to block and add their names to my Tumblr filters immediately without engaging, or with a general warning. I don't owe them a debate, it's not really worth my time and attention to respond, and I'm not interested in the drama. I also am pretty proactive about blocking if I see someone being hateful on someone else's posts/relogs/comments because I don't need that nonsense here. If you want to act like a clown do it on your own time, not mine.

How do you feel about “need to reblog” posts?

It's a surefire way to get me not to reblog it. I'm not a fan of that sort of manipulation.

Do you like tag games?

I do, although I'm always anxious about tagging others. Like, is someone going to feel left out or not want the tag or…yeah.

Do you like ask games?

Yes, with the same caveat as above.

Which of your mutuals do you think are tumblr famous?

See this is one of those questions that I feel like I can't answer because again, will someone feel left out or not want to be mentioned, or what. I have some artists and writers on my mutuals list who are scary talented at what they do, and some have more recognition/followers than others - but for all of them, I really love it when their work pops up on my dash.

Do you have a crush on a mutual?

I'm demisexual. Crushes aren't really a thing. I've met some awesome friends here, though.

Exchanging Secrets

66. “I'm pretty sure your mom hates me.”

“Where are we going?”

Spencer drummed his fingers against the steering wheel, letting out a quiet hum in lieu of a response.

“Spence?” you asked, noticing the nervous way he fidgeted. Despite the case being over and you all having a free day and a half in Vegas, he hadn’t seemed to relax and you couldn’t quite pinpoint why.

After a few more seconds of silence, Spencer finally spoke. “I thought that maybe we… we could go visit my mom.” You didn’t respond, and he glanced over to see you staring at him with wide eyes. “Or not. We don’t—we don’t have to. It was a stupid idea, sorry.”

“No, no,” you said in a rush. “I would love to! I’m just surprised is all.”

Spencer shot you an almost shy smile. “I figured it was about time.”

That quiet admittance was almost too much to bear. He had told you about his mother, of course he had, but you honestly hadn’t known how much she even knew about you. You had wanted to meet her for so long, but that self-doubt still tugged at you. “What if she doesn’t like me?”

He let out a scoff, raising an eyebrow at you. “She’s going to love you.”

Diana sat quietly in the corner of the recreation room, swaying in the rocking chair, her gaze directed out the window. She smiled slightly to herself as a dove flew by and landed on a nearby tree branch.

Spencer stood across the room watching for a moment, bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet. He stopped when he felt your hand on his. “Spence, it’s okay.” You arched an eyebrow. “I thought I was supposed to be the nervous one.”

He let out a shaky laugh and nodded. You squeezed his hand again as you made your way towards Diana.

“Mom?” he called out softly.

She turned around immediately, the confusion on her face melting into recognition. “Oh, Spencer,” she said. “My Spencer.”

“Hi, Mom.”

You watched the exchange wordlessly, the pure joy in Spencer’s eyes pulling at your heartstrings. It was simple to see the love they had for one another just from their brilliant smiles.

“Spencer, what are you doing here?”

Spencer squatted down next to her. “I wanted to see you.”

“I saw a dove today—that means luck. I didn’t know that that luck would be you.” She leaned forward, studying his face. “You look happy.”

“Mom.” He glanced at you. “There’s someone I want you to meet. This is Y/N.”

Diana looked up at you for the first time, her grin only growing wider. “Hello, Y/N.”

You gave a little wave, almost instantly chastising yourself for your awkwardness. “Hello, Mrs. Reid. It’s so great to meet you.”

“Please, call me Diana.”

“I'm pretty sure your mom hates me.”

“What?” Spencer squeaked out. “No, she doesn’t.”

You leveled your gaze at him. “I spilled the tea all over and I dropped the cookies and—and I’m an entire disaster.”

“No, you’re not.”

“Oh, yeah?” It came out as almost a hiss under your breath. “Then why am I getting the third degree? I can’t go back in there.”

Spencer laughed quietly, wrapping an arm around you and pulling you close. “You’re reading far too much into things. She just wants to get to know you, she likes asking questions.”

You let out a huff of air, sinking into his embrace. After another moment, you nodded. “Okay, let’s go.”

“You sure?”

You nodded again. “But you hold the tea this time.”

Spencer pressed a kiss to your cheek. “Okay, dear.”

Spencer was right—it was all in your head. It shouldn’t have surprised you, he always seemed to be right.

Once you had finally relaxed, the conversation flowed easily. The three of you spent hours sitting in the recreation room, Diana telling you stories about Spencer’s childhood.

“Spencer, do you remember when I told you the story of Andromeda and Perseus?” Diana turned towards you. “I finished the story and he said, ‘Mom, that doesn’t make any sense. There’s no such thing as sea monsters.’ And I told him, ‘Spencer, it’s just a myth. It’s a story about love.’ And you know what he said to me?”

You laughed, shaking your head.

“He said to me, ‘Myths are supposed to explain natural events or justify religious beliefs. What does some guy rescuing a girl from a sea monster have to do with any of that?’ Can you believe that? He was ten.” Diana chuckled, her smile beaming.

You couldn’t help but stifle a giggle as a flush creeped up Spencer’s face. “Mom,” he said with an almost whine. “You’re embarrassing me.”

“Oh shush, Spence.” You shook your head, taking his hand in yours. “I could listen to this all day.”

“Spencer was such a special kid,” Diana continued. “Still is. If it was up to his father he would have had a house full of brothers and sisters. But I always said why mess with perfection?”

Spencer choked back a mortified snort, dropping his head back against his chair.

You turned towards him with wide, amused eyes. “Spencer, you didn’t tell me your mother was a genius too.”

Spencer left the room with promises of returning soon with a stack of books from the car. As soon as he disappeared around the corner, Diana turned to you and leaned in close. “Can I tell you a secret?” she whispered, a gleam in her eyes.

You were startled by her question, but you nodded. The nerves from before rose back to the surface along with the sinking feeling that she was going to tell you something that you didn’t want to hear. “Of course.”

“You’re good for Spencer. I can tell these kinds of things. A mother knows.” She tapped her temple with her index finger, a wise smile flashing on her face. “I’ve never seen him this happy.”

It felt like your heart might explode out of your chest at her words. You couldn’t control the grin that tugged at your lips as you leaned in towards Diana in return. You whispered, “Can I tell you a secret, too?”

She nodded eagerly. “Of course.”

“I’m going to spend the rest of my life with your son.”

“Not as bad as you thought, right?” Spencer asked, his eyes searching yours as though he was looking for approval.

You shook your head vehemently, grinning so widely that your cheeks ached. “Spence, I love your mother. Love, love, love.”

He tugged you into a hug, pulling you nearly out of your seat and into his. “Good,” he said, laughing softly and pressing a kiss to your cheek. “Because I love, love, love you.”

in case something happens to me.......

okay, so i have to share this because i'm starting to feel so unsafe that i've began the process of starting a google doc with all this shit to keep in case something were to happen to me in my real life.

!!!!this is about a man who has been stalking me and pretending to be a lesbian woman from multiple accounts (despite me blocking and clocking every new account) over the course of a year. some of the language i expose can get sexual and sexually violent, so if this is something that may trigger you, please do what you got to do for your mental health including not reading this post past this point!!!!

it first started when i posted to a sapphic blog on here to find other sapphic people. ( @sapphicseekingsapphic - they are aware of this and have been helpful with getting the word out)

how it started: in short, i received a message from "Emily", a 22, lesbian girl living in San Francisco. i hadn't really ever dealt with a catfish before, so i felt overly safe and talked to this account. a lot. we exchanged snap info and talked there too, and we even exchanged nude photos and videos. i talk more about it in length in the post linked to the words of this paragraph but be warned for sexual content. this is the post all about the Emily catfish.

the confession: here is where they randomly came clean about being a catfish to me on litha last year.

this might be the most important part of the whole post: their snapchat username was "baalnayak", and they use it for other socials as well. i had someone compare the ip addresses, and it lines up. (but also.. since revealing the ip address part, they started using something to hide theirs) i 100% suggest preemptively blocking them everywhere possible. don't confront, don't interact. block.

the continued catfishing: over the course of this past year, they have made so many accounts to repeatedly not do this to just me, but sapphic people in general, despite some of us making it adamantly clear we realize what is going on and demanding it to stop. (i'll have a list of all the accounts they've used toward the end.)

**a very short break from this shit ensues for maybe four or so months**

the return:- after the emily aka the electicalbuzz account confessed to being a catfish to me and i brought it to the public attention, they deactivated. disappeared? no. because they were using all these other accounts, but i'm sure they thought it was so discreet. HOWEVER, last month, they had the audacity to make an account called "eclecticalbuzz" (clever, huh?) and literally message me again as someone else despite it being obvious as fuck that it was them. a lot of it was i had changed my url in the few months they left me the fuck alone, and so when they returned, they didn't realize i was me.

other people coming forward: obviously, i updated my previous posts and got the word out, including messaging sapphicseekingsapphic. because of this, a few other people came forward with the same stories and helped spread the word about their new urls on here. i am thankful for them, but i will not be the one telling you all who these other victims are. if they want to reveal who they are, they can, but i am not about to put other people in potentially dangerous situations. some of them have already publicly made it known who they are, but i find no need to reiterate their identities.

this shit continues: so in just the past month, i have been messaged by this person on maybe four or five new accounts. there are very, very, VERY specific things this person does on all their accounts that constitute the glaring red flags. these specific things, the weird timing, and confirmed ip addresses of the earlier accounts are all the confirmation i need. i will not be publicly listing off their habitual red flags because they probably are reading this right now, and i don't need them to be self-aware in that sense.
