YOU 🫵 believe in the dancer emmanellain agenda
Tumblr media
reasons why emmanellain de fortemps should transition to dancer as his primary class [several points about the implications for him and sicard at the end]
CANONICALLY emmanellain is very very good at dancing (normal) is it really that hard for him to start dancing (with blades). he would be so good at it he already knows the moves and the vibes
a lot of emmanellain's struggles come with feeling the pressure of being put into a box he does not fit! he's seen as a failure because people didn't see or didn't care about the things he is good at! the firmament quests show he IS good at making allies, he's friends with the redbills, he helped lighten the mood in broken glass! he's great in a social scene, he's perfect for lightening a mood, and i must stress he is CANONICALLY very good at dancing
he HAS grown as a knight, and i'm very proud of my cringefail baby brother, but i think it would be very healing for him to branch out from ishgard and heavy armor to pick up something more freeing (and also he should come to tural with us emmanellain dt sweep)
i could see him fitting in great with the dancer quests
please god we need more PHYSRANGED CHARACTERS in the msq,,,,, ephemie and aenor cockburne i owe you my life,,,, and they are BOTH bards,,,,,,,,, pls the archer to paladin pipeline is ruining the economy and i need dancer and machinist rep
tangentially related YOU 🫵 want emmanellain and sicard to join the b team scions it would be good enrichment for them
emmanellain in neo-ishgardian top of aiming. emmanellain in the lunar envoy aiming gear. emmanellain with the ivalice hairstyle so he still has that hair popping up but he can wear the pretty endwaker dancer relic gear bow. emmanellain happy and spinning around in thavnairian armlets. consider this
okay time to talk about sicard
CANONICALLY emmanellain steals sicard's clothes. sicard wears aiming gear. they could share aiming outfits and emmanellain could wear his boyfriend's pretty v neck into battle instead of the full coverage fortemps armor are you seeing the image
can you imagine how much worse (better) emmsic would be if they were ranged dps boyfriends
overwriting your boyfriend's tactician with shield samba in front of the whole party to prove you're more useful is a love language
sicard walking into the dungeon ready to tease emm about picking him as his dance partner only for emmanellain to dp the tank
:> what's wrong why are you making that face?
i...... i'm dps........... i thought i was dance partner >:(
dps stands for dance partner sicard i cracked the code
sicard feels slighted by this and suddenly starts eating food and using potions from his hotbar and he has the perfect opener to show off how competent he is because he thrives in competition
imagine this. post island sanctuary conversation about responsibility both of them decide to pick up Jobs [tm]. they have a break between contracts and when they meet it's clear that sicard spent some time in ishgard with ilsabard contingent friend stephanivien and got a machinist starter kit and it's clear that emmanellain went to limsa and almost ran away with a traveling dancer troupe
me and my boyfriend and his new six foot tall robot gun mermaid is this anything
thank you for coming to my ted talk vote emmanellain de fortemps for new job change into dancer

Dark knight is the most romantic job, huh? Maybe you should elaborate 👀
Oh well if I must~
Tumblr media
notes: contains spoilers (very vague but yk still there) for the Dark Knight job quests, Shadowbringers role quests etc. Please play critically acclaimed mmrpg Final Fantasy XIV (now on xbox) with a free trial I am so normal about it and I promise you will be too. I need someone to grind gemstones with next expansion it only makes you want to die a little I swear.
Tumblr media
I want to start by bringing something up I don't see discussed a lot (if at all) in discussion of the Dark Knight questline, and that is the background music used. When dramatic or poignant moments occur in other questlines, even the other two that were introduced in Heavesnward (machinist and astrologian), the cutscenes stick to the default/expansion appropriate sad music. This doesn't happen in the DRK questline though, instead the sound designers chose to play Dragonsong during what are some of the most emotionally charged moments in the whole game, and generally stick to the Heavesnward background music even through the Stormblood cut-scenes. The choice of Dragonsong is really what makes me think of the job as "romantic" more than anything; the song is in a lamentation of lost love and trust between dragon and man certainly, but you could also apply some of those lyrics to the separation between the Unsundered and the Warrior of Light, or the separation between the warrior's darker half and their willingness to shoulder their duty.
This musical choice becomes especially clear when you speak to Count Edmont at the end of the Stormblood job quests, as a very specific part of the song begins to play as the Warrior of Light is asked to reflect on what could have possibly caused their heart to break and crack their jobstone:
Tumblr media
Not that I point this out to suggest it's cannon the Warrior had romantic feelings for any one person in particular, but to hammer home exactly what the Moogles try to tell you:
Tumblr media
Dark Knights get their power from their love; that ugly, hard work, painful, your heart is trapped in a rib cage desperate to leave type of bleeding love that is desperate for somewhere to go and doesn't have it anymore.
"Love is grief with nowhere to go." Is a quote that can more or less apply to every Dark Knight we are introduced to in game. Fray is literally dead, we never truly meet him at all, Sidurgu had already lost his whole tribe only to then lose Fray and their master, Granson lost his wife, and Emet Selch... well what hadn't he lost? And they are all angry, burdened by their grief, and desperate for somewhere to put their love because the people they want to give it to are gone.
idk I just think the concept of taking your love for your fellow travelers and using it as a focus to overcome the worst parts of yourself (from your doubts to your anger and resentment) so you can use all of those emotions as fuel to protect them, even from themselves is just so romantic to me. You don't have to be happy about it to do the right thing, and you don't need to be nice to be good. Love isn't always cute, sometimes it is very ugly and raw and I love when stories play with that.
So yeah. The most romantic job. I could get more specific but it has been a long time since I played through these quests ;-; I should fix that

For the ask game. Top 5 memories and top 5 jobs
Hmmm, top 5 memories...
Well, off the top of my head, the cutscene that comes immediately after The Dying Gasp trial is probably number 1, because seeing my brother go through that cutscene was what got me interested in FFXIV. The cinematography was just phenomenal, and since my brother refused to tell me what was going on, I decided to give the game a try so I could find out for myself. I've been here ever since :3
Number 2 would be when I was going through EW MSQ and, during the In from the Cold quest, had "You sense the presence of a powerful mark..." show up on the screen while Zenos was monologuing at me. Helped me come down from the tension of the mission just before it.
Taking the spot of number 3 is the final cutscene and end credits of 6.0. There's just so much good stuff going on there—the Scions' fretting, the Ragnarok's victory lap around the world and seeing everyone, the Final Fantasy theme playing—and seeing my WoL as part of the credits really got to me.
For number 4, I'll have to go with my wedding for tax benefits :3 I had it on Feb. 15th 2023, aka Discount Chocolate Day (one of them, anyways). It was lovely and a friend made arrangements for a band as part of the reception :D
Finally, number 5 goes to the cutscene just before the Dead Ends—specifically, the part where the field of Elpis flowers appears. That bit was absolutely gorgeous and heartwrenching and dammit I want a rainbow Elpis flower hair accessory in-game.
Gonna split the jobs between myself and my WoL just because I can.
For myself, my top 5 jobs are:
Dancer
Dragoon
Summoner (please give us back the DoTs qwq)
Gunbreaker
Astrologian
This mainly boils down to what jobs I find the most fun to play. Honorable mentions to Warrior, Reaper, and Machinist for also being very enjoyable.
(Please don't make me heal I get nervous)
For Zaide, her top 5 jobs are:
Summoner
Dragoon
Samurai
Gunbreaker
Dancer
She also dabbles a little in Dark Knight, and also works as an Alchemist and Fisher on occasion. Is this list very similar to my personal one? Yes. Did I come up with lore reasons for that? Also yes.

Which jobs (incl DoH/DoL) are lore-canon for Arsay? Are there any you play a lot that aren't?
Arsay’s canon jobs are the following:
- Ninja (though she calls herself a rogue first and foremost! She is incredibly duty driven as a ninja is described to be within the quest line. Her duty is to her friends and family.)
- Summoner (she loves to baha blast! Her carbuncle is named Couscous)
- Dragoon ( in name only, in my canon she is not given the title of azure dragoon nor did she go through the lv1-60 lancer/dragoon story. She got Estinien to show her pole arm basics and developed her own style from there. Her draconian abilities stem more from her connection to Midgardsormr and her demi-bahamut. She only pulls this job out for hunting or other non wol stuff! Only exception was the steps of faith trail cause it’s more dramatic to be a drg on that fight)
- Astrologian (this was her post ARR patch and heavensward trauma response class. She heard that there were people in ishgard that knew how to predict the future and thought it would be a good skill to pick up for herself. She was really taken by surprised by everything that happened during the bloody banquet! And again with what happened after the vault. She wanted something, anything, in her pocket that could maybe prevent her from putting her friends in bad situations. After going through all the rigmarole of learning the stars and aligning her aether to them she soon found out that the cards aren’t nearly as forthcoming with information as she hoped them to be. She does keep up with the job in her spare time, just in case! Though urianger is much more suited to it than she is. )
- machinist ( Cid showed her this sick looking gun one time and she thought it was really cool so she got a job stone from the skysteel factory and signed herself up for eorzean e-sports (crystalline conflict and front lines) pvp is her main hobby and her primary way of de-stressing. )
- gunbreaker (soft canon atm. Essentially, it would make sense that she could pick this up as it’s quite functionally a combo of knife (ninja) and gun (machinists). It’s also a zippy enough class that it makes sense for need for speed. But I haven’t figured out a lore reason for why she would have picked it up aside from wanting to show thancred up in front of ryne for fun )
- fisher (she’s not patient enough to wait around for fish but she definitely knows how and its a vital survival skill for her to have)
—————-
All the other jobs that I have for her right now are more “jobs that would be canon if xyz were true”
Monk is the only other dps I have at 90, it’s the job she would have instead of ninja if she had decided to head for thanalan in search of her father’s family at the very beginning of her adventures.
I also technically have scholar at 90 but haven’t done a single job quest beyond getting the stone. Scholar would only be canon to arsay if Emrara had decided to pass on their scholar jobstone off to arsay before arsay left for limsa.
Other classes I have are:
Warrior (would be canon if she wanted to be like her mom and also had way more pent up rage about her parent related trauma )
Red mage, black mage ( au where arsay has a larger store of her own aether to pull from and also went to thanalan first)
Bard (au where Arsay could carry a tune and went to gridania in search of her mothers side of the family. Also wasn’t immediately put off by the many micro aggressions and full racism moments she had to deal with in the archers guild)
Samurai( au where she wanted to fight fire with fire against zenos in storm blood. That or during the ralgars reach he broke one of her knives and instead of just buying a new set she was like “I will shrimply adapt” )

wasted so much time assigning the tcsm friend group/my friends' muses as ffxiv classes:
leland - paladin boy i shan't lie. just some guy with a sword and shield that is very devoted. he's your offtank that stands beside u and puts cover on the main tank or the healer or dps to take the hit and is like [coughing up blood with 8 vuln stacks] im good (: also bc standing in front of the squad w paladin protective light wings goes crazy. paladins aren't always the best main tanks but they are great support offtanks and have a ton of healing/shielding abilities like intervention. can take the heat off you by redirecting damage that u would have taken straight onto himself. tank stance called iron will (: he could also be a gunbreaker bc thancred sexy dumbass gnb energies but i just dont think we should let him have a gun.
connie - machinist or summoner - i just think that connie should get to have a gun that she built herself and also automaton queen to defend her who she also built herself. machinists are specialist dps that are not very tanky bc they're phys ranged but they do big numbers. they're versatile and mobile and also she gets a flamethrower and poison? also ability called wildfire teehees. mch whole thing is just rebelling against the lame people who dont want u to invent new shit but u do it anyway. i think she could also be a summoner bc she gets a lil carbuncle bestie. and yeah the weapon is a book but she can summon the primals like a big phoenix nbd. also a lot of party utility in that she can buff the team's attack and healing, resurrect people, and heal.
danny - dark knight - danny (renee's danny TO BE CLEAR) is a tank be so for real. the whole dark knight thing is no matter what i will always be with you protecting you. not to call him out but you have to be Inherently Going Through it to even be a dark knight. it's also like, the rebel tank class compared to the more royal guard types... their tank stance is also called 'grit'. their visual theming is all shadowy but in the most 'i love u i am ur tank' way. u can summon fray who is like shadow u to fight with u. u can put the blackest night on ur teammates to protect them. also ur invuln ability? it's called living dead and you straight up have to die to activate it and if the timer runs out without u getting healed u fuckin Die for real. but if you do enough dps to heal urself/ur healers care u you come back to life with even more dps
maria - white mage - white mage is a nature magic healer, who can channel elements and light, and is the strongest pure healer in the game. earliest whm quests are about going around healing dark places in nature and being in tune w the natural world. also got some holy energies bc ur abilities turn to bright light at a later level. uses light magic angel wings to protect their team and can summon a big flower that heals everyone. uses lilies to heal teammates, which powers up the b l o o d l i l y bar so u can cast afflatus misery and nuke an enemy after you do a certain amount of healing. whm rly like The Most Healer but also every whm i know including me goes a bit sadistic sometimes bc we do super big dps for a healer- anyway
donnie - gunbreaker - wait the truth is donnie is the sexy foolish thancred energy required to be a gunbreaker. ur weapon? a gun that's also a sword that shoots magic rounds that come from ur own aether/life force bro. gnbs have a lot of utility and are more dps-y thank some other tanks are. all the gnb mains i know are chaotic tbh. idk their abilities also go sicko mode w the names. demon edge? demon slaughter? no mercy? brutal shell? heart of light/heart of stone/heart of corundum? also superbolide is their invulnerability and u know what u do? u shoot urself with ur own gun go down to 1hp and are invincible for a time. gunbreakers are like bodyguards for hire in their story they are kind of doing their own thing and sticking to loyalty to their homies which feels donnie. to be fair i can also see bard bc musician moment but i also see dragoon bc chaotic melee player vibes. dragoons are called floor tanks for a reason bc they are tanking the floor dead-
johnny - warrior bc warriors pull up with their giant battle axe are feral and unkillable and then they hit that rage mode (inner release/infuriate etc) where their eyes go red and their dps skyrockets. they have literally so many mitigations that heal both themselves and their teammates that usually scale in healing by how much damage they do to an enemy. like mmm blood. delicious. im so for real tho when im healing a warrior in a dungeon they pull wall to wall enemies and i barely have to heal them if they're good. their abilities are called shit like shake it off, bloodwhetting, onslaught, berserk, primal rend, decimate, thrill of battle, overpower, u see what im getting at bro. also their tank stance is called defiance. ur just going sicko mode but also ur protecting ur homies.
ana - monk or warrior - i know that ana is A Tank but i don't know if any of them are truly The Vision. but melee dps are basically tanks and have the highest aggro so like. if the tanks die the boss immediately turns around to beat ur ass-- no but monks are very versatile. they are tanky martial artists who also provide team utility and have a lot of ways of healing/protecting themselves. all the monk players i know will be surviving shit they never should have survived i will tell u that. anyway i think she could also be a warrior bc warriors never die they have 50435345245 mitigations and they can also protect their their team. pain is nothing bitch-
sonny - scholar - sonny is giving 'tired but dedicated shield healer' energy so sincerely. scholars weapon is a book, their intellect, and a fairy summon that heals the team. scholar is a technical class with a lot of versatility and utility, can buff the team, can make em run super fast to escape boss mechs, can put down giga shields, can clutch save ur dumbass tanks life. can cover a lot of areas, do a bit of everything. i also think it's so cute to think of sonny w his little fairy eos/selene.
julie - dancer - julie is fr sure dancer bc everyone wants to be dance-partnered by her bc being dance partner means she gives you special buffs. and also she's hot. dancer is also super team utility focused, they do less damage overall in exchange for buffing her teammates, being able to heal and shield as well. very mobile, uses funky chakrams for weapons. playing dancer is hilarious sometimes im like [dancing and crying while my teammates are dying around me]
if danny gaines was here he would probably be machinist tbh as you can see i put effort in here-

so. ffxiv classes for Outer Wilds characters? I am interested
you ever accidentally leave something in your drafts for like a week? anyways, it appears you have activated my trap card--
this is a VERY incomplete list because I'm in between classes for a lot of them. everyone gets a dps and support class so party composition can be shuffled around (because thinking abt party dynamics is half the fun). this is gonna be disjointed as hell bear with me and under a read more because it got LOOOONG. spoilers below ye have been warned
Feldspar: your honor this is a dragoon and I refuse to take any other answer. as for a support class, they're definitely a tank and I can preeeeetty much see them going any tank that isn't paladin but I lean dark knight personally -- the invuln in particular sells it for me, more than warrior's even, because you refuse to die and THEN heal yourself back to full. very self sufficient but still needs help from the party. still can very much see them as a warrior (who needs a healer when you have bloodwhetting) or gunbreaker (superbolide is an objectively funny ability and my brain can't let go of the image of feldspar panic-bolide-ing)
Slate: the easy answer is machinist and gunbreaker and I'm going with that. with all the stupid stuff that machinist gets in its later levels ESPECIALLY like you get a flamethrower and multiple attack automatons it's practically tailor-made for slate "my autopilot throws you into the sun but it's functioning so I'm using it" outerwilds. gunbreaker I'm less sure about for lore reasons but I do know that should Slate go gunbreaker they superbolide maliciously (gossan refuses to heal if slate is tanking). can also see them going black mage or warrior as well
Gossan: I had a hard time pinning them down to be honest!! I've mostly settled on sage/ninja. NIN is flashy but not as much as dragoon is, plus it's more precise than DRG's "jump in the middle of the pack with a trail of fire and pray." also, trick attack/mug I rest my case. could also see them swinging monk because iirc monk has more overall party buffs (possibly red mage but my brain insists they're melee). as for sage this was more of a process of elimination -- I wanted them to be a barrier healer but I didn't think scholar fit them. sage's multitasking "do damage to heal" also Fits in my head for whatever reason
Hornfels: astrologian/red mage. they keep the observatory of COURSE they're an astro! the entire job quest is about awakening your abilities through observation of the stars! I also like the idea of them being a pure healer vs gossan's barrier healing but this is just to service the "slate healchecks the party with superbolide" joke. red mage because it's got so much party utility and Hornfels Is A Mage (black mage Hornfels would be very funny though considering black mage/thaumaturgy lore I'm not sure they'd go that route. summoner maybe, but again, considering lore eehhhhh unsure if Hornfels would like to square up with bahamut any time soon. most hinged member of owv)
Esker: my s.o who loves esker dearly is 100% convinced Esker is a blue mage which is very good considering it's a limited class but in the context of "everyone is actually in eorzea" I myself think they'd go for summoner and a tank (I'm leaning warrior). despite the summoner class quests once you actually do square up with various monsters and primals it gets pretty relaxed from there, and that fits prettty well -- esker did a lot of scary work getting the moon base up and running, and now they're kinda vibing, even if it does mean that the others esp. the newer owv members forget the work they put in (hey remember when summoner had a five-minute/sixty skill opener???). tank, specifically warrior because... ok forgive me but you know the end of bloodborne when gehrman gets up from the chair? That's Esker
Gabbro: they're a bard. quintessential full stop bard. like bard barely has a real rotation you just hit your procs as they light up and the later class quests are "one of your two job tutors and the one that is ACTUALLY A BARD fucks off to do smth stupid and unrelated and comes back with something useful and poignant, somehow" hi hello COME ON. I'm putting their support class as tank but I feel like they pretty much go bard exclusively. if they do tank I initially thought paladin but maybe they get DRK rights after being stuck in a time loop idk. that's probably enough angst to awaken an Esteem if gabbro decides to unpack that (they won't)
Riebeck: scholar scholar scholar it's perfect considering how archaeology-focused the SCH quest line is. Riebeck also deserves a cute lil fairy friend please give this fish eos they deserve a break!! as for THEIR dps class they have to be ranged, no way in hell Riebeck is getting within five ft of Thing That Wants To Kill Us. they're probably either bard or red mage (RDM being the relative Sanest magic dps option though good luck convincing them to Actually Do their melee combo). they'd be a shoe in for MNK since its questline is also about restoring a lost offensive art but, again, not brave enough for that ;; (though that would be a beautiful lil self conatined character arc, going from bard to red mage to monk as they get more confident and braver)
Chert: 100% astro they wear a scarf embroidered with the stars. this also furthers my "hornfels as chert's mentor" agenda (that I really wish I saw more of YES I have wips about it). also it's got lovely angst potential considering astrologians are supposed to divine the future from the stars : ^) I'm pretty sold on chert going monk for its themes of discipline, and because despite its scrappy beginnings, it's also a pretty precise class. could also see them as samurai considering how seriously that class takes itself (at least in its first four or five questlines, I've only got it to 59 yet oops). chert absolutely gets Melee Rights tho
Hatchling: omniclass they get to do whatever they want LOL no, actually, in all seriousness I have them as a PLD -> DRK and reaper. the reaper choice is based on the newest dungeon where you get some lore about a former I think garlean settlement that gave rise to reapers for defence purposes (they were farmers that basically made deals with demons to protect their home from demons iirc) and the nomai could absolutely fuckin stand in for that, so it makes a sort of poetic sense that the hatchling would pick that up after them. PLD to DRK for the same reasons as Gabbro but the hatchling sure does unpack all that
As for the other villagers, I only have four that I have solid ideas for right now. Gneiss is a bard/white mage, Hal is a scholar (there is a part of me that wants to make them a black mage as well since black mage invents new spells all the goddamn time and definitely not because I'm a blm/sch,) Rutile is a paladin, and Porphy is a white mage/dancer (did you know that NIN is really high on the dance partner priority list?? :3c) it'd make more sense for the villagers to be disciples of the land/hand exclusively -- gneiss as a carpenter, porphy as a botanist, spinel as a fisher (lol), hal as probably an alchemist -- but this is already a crack crossover and I'm making the rules so everyone gets a disciple of war/magic even if they wouldn't need one
for party compositions and dynamics I will be brief bc this is so long already but light party one would be feldspar and gossan as DPS, hornfels as healer, and slate as tank OR feldspar as tank, slate and hornfels as DPS, and gossan as healer. light party 2 used to be Esker as tank, gabbro and chert as DPS, and riebeck as healer/esker and riebeck as DPS, gabbro as tank, and chert as healer (though the second config happens rarely). full party would be prooobably esker and slate on tank, riebeck and hornfels healing, and the rest on DPS. once the hatchling is trained they take esker's place -- esker is enjoying their quasi-retirement from adventuring for the most part but misses it sometimes and will step in to fill as necessary.
...oh god I have so many dark knights what happened--

A few scattered, minimally spoilery FF14 thoughts as I draw near the end of Heavensward’s main story
I have come around entirely on Estinien (his one example of weirdly toxic masculinity directed at my sweet baby boy Alphinaud seems to have been an aberration of writing) and Aymeric (who is deep down an idealist despite being the Cesare Borgia chief of police). I was always on board for Count Edmont de Fortemps despite his looking suspiciously like Dracula and being a Count, because he was our narrator for this expansion and I’m genre savvy enough to figure that meant he’d be on our side unless he had a MUCH bigger role in which case he might have betrayed me for that punch. But yeah- his reaction to Major Character Death was heart-wrenching.
Ysayle! Coming through as the most compelling character in the expansion full of compelling characters tbh. Her motivations, development, and the shit she ends up having to come to terms with, absolutely grabbed me. And then working with the team because no, she meant it, her whole entire goal was ending the fucking war. To the point of talking down her own people and thereby foiling the schemes of evil men in power, forcing them to change tack.
I also really love the non-’heretic’ revolutionaries, and having done the Machinist quests alongside the main story really sells them that much more and I want! To shoot! Temple knights and asshole nobles! Already!
Hilda probably isn’t going to matter very much to the game moving forward which is too bad because in her like 5 minutes of scene she grabbed more attention than a lot of characters. Varian definitely has a crush on her, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Hi, I see you like firearms and revolutionary direct fucking action I also like those things would you like to go out sometime? How do you feel about dating a guy with adopted twin elezen genius kids? That’s not a dealbreaker for you is it because if you don’t love my adorable kids it’s a dealbreaker for me and you should know that.”
Got machinist to 60 and got an outfit that matches my starter gunbreaker outfit but has a cowboy hat, so full-mourning-for-his-Ishgardian-bro Varian can pull his cowboy hat down over his eyes when he tears up too much over every little thing.
Also it’s just extra hilarious to me to have my character running around Ishgard, dealing with nobles and knights and such, with my very fancy aristocratic son, just wearing full on frontier cowboy leathers because he’s given up on any sort of ‘civilized’ behavior and is just. Going to put a bullet in the archbishop and his knights’ hearts.
Tumblr media
Matoya is great and I love that she’s a literal bog witch living in a cave. Her sapient frog companions being former normal-ass frogs she uplifted rather than turning people who annoyed her into frogs is very [chef’s kiss]
Her interactions with Y’shtola were also great, and did more for Y’shtola’s character than like, anything that had come before because she went from being ‘the most competent and interesting of the Scions and therefore in the story’ to being one of the least interesting characters around not through any fault of her own but because the Ishgardians all were so much better written as to become vastly more compelling and she just can’t compete on their level
The development with her eyes has the potential to be really interesting- she’s full on post-stone-burner Muad’Dib’in it, here. Damn.
Tataru is so talented and she should make everyone a new outfit. Next time maybe she’ll even remember to make pants! Fortunately Alphinaud kept his old pants and Y’shtola apparently had some bicycle shorts kickin’ around but still. Other than the lack of pants, both very solid improvements and a credit to Tataru’s skill.
Tumblr media
^ Only one of these people dressed themselves, can be trusted to dress themselves, and it is the cowboy. Tataru, however, can be trusted to dress anyone. Provided they brought their own pants.

FFXIV - Contingency
I originally wrote this for FFXIV Write back in September and was originally planning to just let it sit forever in my Docs folder. Then yesterday I reread both it and all of the other pieces I did, and determined that a bitch can, in fact, write. So I’m sharing them now, because I want everyone to know what a little menace my girl is. <3
This first one contains Post-Heavensward MSQ spoilers, particularly for the quest, “For Those We Can Yet Save.” In fact, this piece is a direct answer to the aftermath of that. >:)
~1200 words, featuring @urdnotgrunt’s Onion and @colonelcupquake’s Wickit, Tritchet’s steadfast sisters, who love her more than anything in the world.
----
Foundation at midnight was just about the only time Wickit liked the city.
Bathed in the dim yellow glow of its dying streetlamps, muffled by the soft press of fresh snow, she was free to wander the empty streets in relative peace, without the distractions of would-be glory-seekers trying to bend her ear or the twenty-odd personal servants of the rich and powerful that harried her along on their errands. At that late middle hour, in the city at the top of the world, the universe stretched out ahead of her like a vast black blanket, wide enough to hold her, close enough to touch.
If only she could enjoy it.
Onion had slipped away at some point halfway through dinner, looking wan and tight-lipped the way she always did when there was a problem that needed her to solve it. Wickit had allowed herself the misguided hope that her sister would return on her own before long, but the hours had lapsed into still more silent, empty hours, and at last she hadn’t been able to stand it any longer. She had pulled on her boots, strapped a pair of hatchets onto her belt — just in case — and blundered out into the dark, frigid night to fetch her perpetually workaholic sibling.
Sense had taken her to the Manufactory. Even in the growing darkness of a city dousing everything but its watchlamps, the Skysteel Manufactory burned with the light of a working forge, glowing even from behind its shuttered windows. Shadows danced beneath the cracks of the doors, a sight that should have — and usually did — indicate that the building was packed with its machinist crew, all stripped of their heavy outer layers and bent over hot workbenches around some half-cocked project or another. Tonight, though, those shadows heralded nothing except the faint roar of the closed-up forge, and the soft, intermittent clanking of a tinker at work. One tinker, in particular.
Sighing, Wickit nudged the door open and slipped quietly inside.
Onion was seated at one of the low workbenches right beside the rumbling heart of the forge, hunched over a long jumble of metal and wood that looked astonishingly like the skeleton of a musket. She was testing, with careful, narrow-eyed precision, the ease with which the bolt along the top of it moved back and forth. From the doorway, Wickit cleared her throat.
“It’s midnight, you know.”
To her credit, Onion didn’t jump, but the look that she turned up to her sister was maybe just a touch too quick to be casual.
“I know,” she said, though it was clear by her almost-guilty glance at one of the timepieces plastered to the wall that she did not, in fact, know shit. “I’m almost done.”
She was also very clearly not almost done, but when a project captured her attention, arguing with Onion was like talking to a brick wall — the Pock family trait of stubbornness in action. Wickit weighed the option of simply removing her sister by force, but there was a grim sort of shadow beneath her eyes that said that Onion would wake the whole of Foundation with her grumbling if pushed. So instead, Wickit strolled over, hands tucked demurely into the pockets of her coat, and said, with as much interest as she could manage, “Is that a Vath musket?”
The edge of suspicion in Onion’s eyes eased, just a little. “It is,” she said, turning back to the contraption in her hands. “Or, it’s most of one. I had Marcechamp trade for it to send back. I remembered how useful the Vath said that they were against the Dravanians and thought we should have one, too.”
She didn’t look up as she spoke, but there was a flinty anger in her words that made Wickit’s stomach turn. She chanced a look at the workbench at her sister’s elbow and saw a freshly pressed piece of vellum peeking out among the scrap metal, scratched to hell and back with a mind-numbing array of figures and labeled diagrams. But even if Wickit couldn’t have deciphered the thing in one or a thousand years, she still had eyes, and the long-barrelled rifle depicted at the bottom of the page looked deadly enough to kill on contact.
Certainly, it would do more damage than an arrow had.
Wickit closed her eyes and breathed, long and steady. Even hours removed from it, she could still hear Vidofnir’s anguished roar, the panicked rumbling of the crowd, the way her sister had been a shrieking streak of purple up to Aymeric’s side as he loosed his bow, screaming, “No! No!”
“Tritchet is going to be very upset if she sees this,” she said at last, stealing a sidelong glance at her sister. Onion’s frown deepened.
“I know,” she said, and sounded very much like she did know, this time. “That’s what I’m worried about. She was convinced that he was still in there before today, and now that Krile and Y’shtola have said that it might be true, she’s not going to be convinced otherwise. She’ll do anything, Wickit. You know how she is.”
“She might not be wrong,” Wickit said, even as her heart clenched. The Pock family trait of stubbornness, once again. Onion snorted.
“Maybe,” she said. “But maybe not, and she won’t be willing to listen to the difference. So I'm making a backup plan, in case she can't do what needs to be done. In case she won't. If she's going to hate me, I’d rather she hates me alive.” Onion flicked the bolt on her would-be dragon slayer again, green eyes hard and focused on something a thousand miles away. She had thought about this for a while, then. Wickit let out another long sigh, heavy and heartsick in the way that only her sisters seemed capable of inspiring.
For a long moment, neither of them said anything, listening to the soft roar of the forge and the whistle of the growing wind outside.
"You need to be careful, then," Wickit said, eventually. Her heart ached like someone had tried to wrench it free of her chest, but she knew better than to argue when Onion was right about something. “Tritchet is used to you spending all of your time devoted to one project, but if she sees that you’re up to it again, she’s going to start asking questions.”
“You won’t tell her, then?” Onion’s eyes were still flinty with resolve, but they turned up to Wickit’s with a faint, pleading hope burning behind them that made her stomach turn. She nodded anyway.
“Only if you come back with me right now, though. She saw me leave. If I come back empty-handed, she may well be out here next.”
“Fine.” The acquiescence was faster than any that Onion had ever given before. She laid the rifle carefully across the workbench — right across its blueprint, just in case — and then dragged a thick piece of sailcloth over the whole thing, hastily tucking in the corners until it was a harmless, shapeless lump. She would be back again first thing in the morning, Wickit knew, but at least tonight she would sleep in a bed.
Five minutes later, they pressed back out into the wide, black expanse of Foundation’s empty streets, arm in shaking arm, and carried their rotten secret home.

50 FFXIV!
Tumblr media
I finally made it to level 50 on all the jobs I'd previously ignored (except for blue mage which isn't needed for the amaro achievement) in FFXIV. Whew. At this point, I'm slowing down on leveling. Right now I'm focused on getting the two remaining aiming classes - bard and machinist - to level 70. I'm giving the level 50-60 tribal quests to one of the level 50ish jobs I have every day and just leveling them slowly. After the aiming jobs, I'll probably try to switch to the remaining tanks and focus on leveling those. I have not started gunbreaker yet since that gets picked up at level 60. I'm waiting until the other two tank jobs I'm leveling hit 60 too, so they can all share gear.
It's interesting. Some of the jobs were ones I put off on exploring because I didn't think I'd like them, and in some cases I was right. Some of them have turned out to be a joy. Spoilers for monk story below.
Tumblr media
I love the job and the story!
Bard - I hated the archer missions because of the absolute asshole NPC you have to work with, but I'm adoring bard and all the NPCs there. The class itself has been really simple for me to understand and a lot of fun. Rain of Death is one of the best skills ever, I think.
I love bard enough that I think it may take over from dancer as my go-to class when I need ranged DPS. I'm kicking myself for not enjoying this job sooner.
Ninja - Fun! One of the things I've enjoyed about this class is that the story missions have often tried to teach you to use specific skills and remember the one combination set you need. You get to jump around a lot. I've also enjoyed the NPCs Rigel has worked with. I'm hoping to see familiar faces as this story mission goes on, and I think the Stormblood level quests might get very interesting.
Rogue - Separating this from ninja because the story and NPCs were so different. I really liked the way the rogue story chain set up the guild as the arbiters of underworld justice, keeping the peace and helping where they could in Limsa. I adored Jacke and the rest of the guild members, too. And the way the rogues' guild is concealed in Limsa is hilarious.
Tumblr media
I dislike the job, but love the story
Machinist - I really, really dislike playing jobs with guns. I grew up in huge cities. Guns were never good things there at all. So a job that has Rigel waving around a gun and shooting things doesn't thrill me. This isn't a class I would voluntarily play outside of leveling it up for the achievement.
Having said that, I love the story. It really supports the MSQ and the Firmament story chains, and delves more into the way the class structures in Ishgard change. You get to work with House Haillenharte and eventually Hilda, and that's so much fun. I look forward to each installment of the story as I level.
Marauder - I really liked the Marauders' story chain and the theme of protecting Limsa Lominsa. The job itself, not so much.
Pugilist - The characters introduced in the Pugilists' Guild were really interesting, and the level 1-30 story foreshadowed a pivotal moment in the MSQ. I really liked these stories, even thought the job itself doesn't really do much for me. I mean, cool, Rigel is punching people like Popeye, I guess?
Club Ambivalence
Paladin - this job is White Mage's cousin to me: bland, non-offensive, sort of like watching paint dry in a video game. Other than the fact that one of the NPCs appears to be a reflection of one of the Warriors of Darkness, not much is piquing my interest here either job or story wise. However like white mage it isn't arduous. It's a perfectly serviceable job, and as a perk I carry that special shield We All Get in Heavensward as a glamour.
I like nothing here. I'm just in it for the Amaro.
Monk - Oh. My. God. This is a quest from a dudebro game that somehow made it into FFXIV. I hate it here to the point that going forward I've decided I'm not even going to do the story beats unless I absolutely have to for the achievement. The monk quest giver is a professor who insults the Warrior of Light's intelligence every other sentence - literally calling her stupid or making other insults about her intellect over and over again in every single quest. It got old really, really fast, especially since the game never once gave Rigel a chance to tell him off. The other NPC in the quest, an Ala Mhigo monk, started out as intriguing but he also got old really fast when he betrayed the WoL. Worse, those two quest givers never go away - the Warrior of Light is forced to continue working with someone who verbally abuses her at every turn and a guy who literally tried to murder her to steal her aether/power.
I'm leveling this, but the minute it gets to 80 it's getting dropped cold, I think. I'm not doing the story beats, I'm just leveling it.
Warrior - I felt like the level 30-50 story chain was a weaker version of what we see in some other stories, like Dragoon and Black Mage - people wrestling with power beyond their ken, and the possibility of becoming a monster from it. I didn't enjoy it. I still can't get into the warrior job either. Rigel's just hacking at things with an axe.

Wishes for FFX-2
(which will never get fulfilled)
Chocobo Knight
Holy warrior class, opposite of Dark Knight.  I love the Alchemist class, but still get pissed off when I finish the Chocobo Ranch quest and don’t get a Chocobo Knight.  Could also have Initiative, Choco Kick, and Choco Meteor.
Fem-Goon
Another major disappointment, considering you spend time stealing the outfits, and they actually animate them.
Yuna:  Fan
Rikku:  Claw
Paine:  Gun
Blitzer
Nevermind the fact they destroyed Blitzball for FFX-2, but Blitzball players are extremely central to the plot and setting.
Yuna:  Besaid Aurochs (overalls without undershirt)
Rikku:  Al Bhed Psyches (female)
Paine:  Zanarkand Abes (Tidus’ outfit, complete with super cleavage)
Machinist
Each girl gets a pet Machina.
Yuna:  Bandolier
Rikku:  YAK-13
Paine:  Scout Machina
(yes, I know, you can capture monsters in the remaster, but they are all shallow incarnations that have a minimal level ceiling)
Gun Lore
Allows gunnery classes to use gun skills.
Gun Classes:
Gunner
Gun Mage
Alchemist
Fem-Goon (Paine)
Blitzer
Lady Luck
Machinist
Make the Mascot Outfit Easier to Get
I don’t mean reduce the requirements to get it, but let you fulfill the requirements over multiple playthroughs, aka once you’ve fulfilled a requirement in one playthrough, it’s considered fulfilled on subsequent playthroughs.
P.S.  The Creature Creator is kind of fun in it’s own right, but a pale shadow of the real classes, and I really don’t like the new classes.

As I've been getting everyone ranked up high enough in their Grand Companies to buy apartments this week, I've decided a couple things about everyone's jobs from my roster of Sargatanas Server alts that I think will make leveling them all a bit more entertaining. In particular I shuffled classes around for more even coverage of roles, so that nobody's stuck with 100% DPS queues. Every character has either a Tank or a Healer, one Melee DPS, and one Ranged/Magical DPS, except for Siege who is of course already level 90 with everything, and Griever who has that Summoner/Scholar combo in addition to his main job being Gunbreaker.
So here's how it's shaking out, with rough story explanations for how:
CAPTAIN SIEGE ZABAC
While Siege is level 90 with every class, he has some favorites (because I have some favorites), and those are Dragoon, Monk, Machinist, Red Mage, Gunbreaker, and Sage. I expect Viper to join this roster just based on vibes from the preview.
You'll note Siege's Main Job list also covers the Main Job for every other character. They're all definitely going to hit 90 in those jobs because I love playing them, and the other jobs will be for fun if I have time.
For RP purposes, every other character is Siege's equal or better with their main job. He's the Warrior of Light because he can call on all these styles, and pick the one best suited to a given fight. He's also the one who did the canon job quests, with a couple exceptions.
FIRST MATE R'KHSANA JANNAT
VIPER (Main Job?): R'khsana is Pirate Royalty, and that job looks swashbucklery as hell. I'll figure out the story after it launches.
BARD: Having a ranged option is ideal for ship-to-ship combat, but she prefers a bow over a gun to honor the traditional hunting style of her mother's family, from the M tribe of Ala Mhigo.
WHITE MAGE: R'khsana studied Conjury to gain a better insight into the spiritual aetheric influences behind the Wind and Waves. Learning how to heal was just a nice bonus. (Swapped this for Astrologian with Usul.)
QUARTERMASTER GRIEVER STRZYGASCH
GUNBREAKER (Main Job): Griever was a smuggler with close ties to the Bozja Resistance, although he didn't take up the Gunblade until later in life when he followed Siege back to his homeland to drive the IVth legion out for good. It was there that the two old friends learned this combat style side by side.
SUMMONER: After helping defeat the manifestation of Queen Gunnhildr, Griever became very interested in the study of Primals, and took advantage of the Amaranthine Maw Pirates' close ties to the Scions of the Seventh Dawn to compare research with the likes of Urianger and Y'shtola, the latter of whom introduced him to Y'mhitra. He is a thoughtful, cautious enough man that all of the above parties trust him to use this knowledge responsibly.
SCHOLAR: I play him more like Alphinaud before the change to Sage, an Arcanist oriented more towards healing than harming. He finds Siege's tales of the Tonberries of Nym fascinating though, and may seek them out for training some day. This was his fighting style before the events of the Bozja story arc.
CHAPLAIN PENITENT CORMORANT
MONK (Main Job): The worship of Rhalgr was not unknown among the Hellsguard villages in the parts of Abalathia's Spine closest to Ala Mhigo, and some but not all of the martial traditions of the Fists of Rhalgr were shared with the local faithful, surviving the Mad King's purge. What Penitent wasn't able to learn directly in her youth, she's re-developed on her own or picked up from sparring with Siege, who does treat the Monk questline as canon.
WARRIOR: Penitent found a lot of similarities between the way she learned to wield an axe as a Hellsguard and the way she learned as a member of the Marauder's Guild during her early years sailing. When she encountered Curious Gorge, she jumped at the opportunity to restore a style developed by her people... and turned out to be more than angry enough to master it. (Swapped this for Dark Knight with Lunaticia.)
BLACK MAGE: Thaumaturgy is a highly effective magical art for a professional spirit-wrangler. Penitent's variant is probably native to Abalathia's Spine rather than derived from the Thaumaturges Guild. In any case she definitely wouldn't be foolhardy enough to actually learn Black Magic if given a chance, but approaches the same potency through her people's traditional methods.
MASTER-AT-ARMS LUNATICIA CERISE
RED MAGE (Main Job): Luna comes from unusual circumstances, child of a Garlean father an Hingashi mother. While she's not fully incapable of using aether like a pure-blooded Garlean, she struggled with control. She met X'rhun Tia during his travels and found the style of carefully balancing one's internal aether to be just the tool she needed to refine her control. And then she was involved in the Red Mage storyline around the Demon Lilith, when it became clear that she, like Araya, was one of the Nightkin, those descended from the archmage who orignally bound Lilith, from whose bloodline the demon was attempting to forge a new vessel for herself. The unlikely union of Luna's parents may have resulted from Lilith's influence, but her Garlean blood weakened her innate magical potential sufficiently for her to be declared a failure... before she overcame it, and joined Araya and X'Rhun Tia to vanquish Lilith.
REAPER: Luna spent most of her life denying and hating her Garlean heritage. But in my canon she didn't kill Lilith in the Red Mage quests, she bound the demon to herself in a new pact of service, then sought out distant relatives of her father's who still maintained this largely abandoned fighting style to learn how to control Lilith's power.
DARK KNIGHT: You think this girl, who gave herself a supervillain style pseudonym even before she bound a living demon to her spirit as a battery, doesn't have a dark side to draw on? Ok, mainly Luna is a Dark Knight because when I made a version of her in Soul Calibur (in imitation of the original version of this character from City of Heroes), I used Nightmare's power set. I don't think I'm treating the DRK job quests as canon for her, as I'm one of the rare few who honestly didn't like them that much. I'm going to say Sidurgu taught her because he saw her flipping the hell out at someone and was like "Whoa, damn, you may have strong aether control but you need to learn emotional control." (Swapped this for Warrior with Penitent.)
CHIEF ENGINEER LOCKPIX BURGLEBANKS
MACHINIST (Main Job): Listen, I love Stephanivien and his quests and still treat them as canon for Siege, but Lockpix developed this fighting style independently. He's a mechanical genius who made all his own guns and gadgets. It's just convergent evolution.
NINJA: Lockpix was trained by his adopted Goblin family first and foremost as a Thief, and this is the class that most closely approximates that. All his Ninjutsu attacks will be treated as alchemical bombs instead.
PALADIN: Later in life Lockpix became curious about his birth parents. Mainly because he wondered if they had any money that he could, you know, inherit. But what he discovered was that his father was a member of the Sultansworn, discretely dispatched along with his mother in a "bandit attack" to strip away another of Nanamo's parents' defenders before they were also assassinated. He hasn't told any crew members or his Gobbieflock about this, but he's been meeting in secret with Papashan to hear stories, and been gifted his dad's old sword. (Engaged in a three-way swap, taking this from Usul and giving the hypothetical new Caster DPS from Dawntrail to Pandora.)
NAVIGATOR USUL HARAGIN
DRAGOON (Main Job): Usul is one of the few members of the Mako's crew who met Siege first as the Warrior of Light rather than as a Pirate. Driven by visions to set sail from the Azim Steppe, Usul roamed the northern seas until he came to Ishgard, where Nidhogg's Eye resonated just as much with him as it did with Siege or Estinien. That's right, my canon has three Azure Dragoons, although only Siege is doubly-blessed by Midgardsormr.
ASTROLOGIAN: While he was in Ishgard, Usul also became involved in this questline, but he first drew Leveva's attention by utilizing the rudiments of star magic that he'd taught himself as a navigator. In Leveva's estimation it's entirely likely that Usul would have developed something close to mastery of this type of magic even if he'd never met a Sharlayan.
DANCER: The Haragin tribe often say that they've been everywhere that the sea touches. Radz-at-han isn't that far from the Azim Steppe, and the Haragins encountered the Kriegstanze in its homeland, where some members of the tribe learned it and brought it home. Usul never considered himself particularly adept compared to some of his kin, but he liked how the style's use of aether to control its weapons meant he could have a ranged fighting style without having to pack a lot of ammunition on his tiny boat. And he also liked how the dances served as a meditative tool in his shamanic studies, helping him feel at one with the moving currents of aether. And he also liked how being a good dancer expanded his potential circle of romantic partners so far beyond the limits normally imposed by his dour and introverted disposition. This was how he fought before becoming a Dragoon. (Engaged in a three-way swap to take this from Pandora and give Paladin to Lockpix.)
DOCTOR PANDORA JARNVIDR
SAGE (Main Job): Pandora has been around for a while, and enjoys full Sharlayan citizenship from her time as a teacher at the Studium, a position she's left and returned to half a dozen times over the decades. The pursuit of medical magic is her primary drive ever since her home village was eradicated by plague when she was a child. She isn't just a Sage, she was on the forefront of developing the modern style of somanoutics, although that was a very long time ago. It's only recently that she's been coaxed into dragging her expertise out of the laboratory and doing some field research, so while she has a comprehensive grasp of theory, she's a bit out of practice with the realities of battlefield magic.
SAMURAI: Honestly, it's all about Usagi Yojimbo. How does anyone have a Viera that's not a Samurai, that's what I want to know? I'll figure out the story of where and how Pandora learned this eventually, but I'll tell you this much, it won't be from the Sekiseigumi (ACAB). This is probably how she fought when she was part of R'kshasa Nunh's crew back in the day.
THE UNREVEALED CASTER DPS FROM DAWNTRAIL: It's got to go somewhere, everyone else has 3 classes, and Pandora's status as a ~300 year old mage puts her in the best position to justify it. I had this with Lockpix originally because I thought Ink Mage/Painter/Pictomancer was it for sure and he could study it to enhance his skills at forgery for a broader criminal skillset, but that suspiciously Green Mage looking earring in Krile's envelope has me doubting. (Engaged in a three-way swap to take this from Lockpix and give Dancer to Usul.)
Hopefully whatever comes after Dawntrail doesn't mess my pattern up too much, but I guess it's pretty premature to worry about it.

Wanted to draw this but ended up tired today so ill just write it down and pray i dont forget it tmrw lol:
Sticks vs ffxiv
Keep in mind some charas may have multiple jobs!
TSC: I think they’d be a Warrior ! Its a bit of the poster job of xiv, and they have their giant hammer. Theres no hammer looking weapon in xiv but the warrior axe is close enough. (Plus inner release + equilibrium and all that). An omnicrafter who just likes to make stuff for their friends. Tl;dr: Warrior!
Red: Paladin! I really debated summoner for them, but I think seeing them in AvM 25 with a sword and shield convinced me. Plus their tendency to rush ahead + how tanking is about love (and a side of that “dont look at these other hoes look at me” post) just made me think this actually really fit them. They can still be summoner, but I think they’d also just be a minion collector haha. Tl;dr: Paladin and Summoner!
Yellow: I think they’ve started off as a Black Mage (cool explosive magic!! Planning out your positions!! Knowing the technicalities of the content!! Yay!) but eventually migrated to Scholar or Sage to be a better playmaker. Scholar definitely fits their personality and aesthetic > Astrologian (even tho that’d be cool). I kind of see Yellow as a more supportive playmaker, making opportunities for everyone else to do more y’know. Tl;dr: Scholar, Black Mage and Sage!
Blue: Machinist! I do think they started out as an archer but just ended up enjoying machinist more. I think they got to bard, saw all the crafting stuff and immediately focused on that. By the time they all had to do combat, they just picked the least complicated ranged DPS. I think they’d also be the other healer, I think white mage, closest thing to a druid in this game lol. They spend most of their time in the island sanctuary tho. Knows the second most about how free companies work compared to yellow. Tl;dr: Machinist, White Mage!
Green: Dancer! I think they started out as conjurer, basically swapped with blue and started playing bard until they could be a dancer. I debated red mage as their main job here, but i think dancer fits both the musicality that green would enjoy with the mobility that they display (iirc they use the fishing rod for mobility the most, even in combat). They do have bard tho, theyre a Limsa afk musician 😔 Tl;dr: Dancer, Red Mage and Bard!
In case it wasnt obvious i made everyone have a little to do with the 5 warriors of light in ARR (warrior, paladin, white mage, bard, black mage) ^^; but some of them dont rlly fit it.
Purple: Hello it is now later, and I think they’d be a Dragoon! The jumps kind of simulate what its like to be flying, no? I think they’d enjoy the story a lot and pays attention to the job quests. Probably has the most jobs unlocked just so they can listen in. Their favourite stories is probably Reaper and Ninja but they really only play Reaper and Dragoon. Tl;dr: Dragoon and Reaper!
King: probably didn’t initially want to play but ends up tagging along because purple wants to play. King isn’t very good at fighting a lot of the times it seems, especially at close range, so I don’t think they’d be a tank… I think they might be the actual Black Mage of this group lol. Though I can see them also picking up Astrologian so they can run around healing (read: queue popping) for Purple.
TCO: Samurai for sure lol. It lacks a lot of the like, actual powers or abilities TCO has, but all of their like. Coolness factor I think. Its also the stormblood poster job so I think it fits ahaha.
TDL: Monk! If almost purely bcs its the second poster job of stormblood. There’s also them beating TCO in a straight up brawl in AVA5 even if they were enhanced by some thing.
Victim: omnicrafter lol. Just like tsc/tsc is just like them

Machinist in FFXIV is so fun it should be illegal. I've picked up Warrior as well which is also great fun because AXE but Machinist hits just right for me
I love the fashion. I love the gun. I love the quests and my Machinist family in the manufactory. I love the quickness of it. I love peloton. I love hitting a crit just right.
Weirdly not picked up a job I dislike yet. Summoner, White Mage, Warrior and Machinist are all great. I love Scholar for solo content but am still not confident enough for it in dungeons haha.
Yep still playing FFXIV

Saw you've been sucked into the MMO life in the form of FFXIV and I was wondering if you had any input into the debate I've been having about what class archetypes tfw would play. I think Sam would be most likely to tank because it requires a reasonable amount of leadership and is also more of a quiet, backbone type role compared to dps. Dean seems more the type to be singularly focused on the big damage hits tbh. He also tends to take more of the charging in and fighting role in their normal life with Sam being the one reading up on everything more carefully and being his backup. Which leaves Cas as healer which may just be me projecting because I play healer/support at every opportunity but literal angel healing aside I think that sorta fits too, he cares a lot for them and tries to keep them safe and shield them as best he can in their adventures? Idk half formed thoughts please completely contradict me if you want I'm genuinely curious about other people's opinions here
Heyooo :D It is less sucked into and more like I’ve returned to the warm cushiony nest of MMOs lol
If you’d asked me back when I was a WoW player I’d have fully agreed because you could only have one class per character and these are definitely the snap decisions that the fam would make when on the character screen. Dean would grab the sexiest DPS, Sam the stoutest tank especially as he’s the one who has read into the classes and strats beforehand, and Cas would ask what to do and be given the healer role because the other two in this scenario would know better about the game and sort of lump it onto him like, oh, we need a healer and you can do this.
(In my own gaming journey, this is what my friends and brother did to me, as they needed a healer to round out their party... I took druid because it was spoopy, and discovered in WoW that while you can’t change classes you can pay gold to respec your character’s role within that class... Promptly re-specced to a melee dps/tank feral druid instead of the healer one, and had a lot more fun :D)
In FFXIV you can take all the classes on your character (which I have done, natch) and it’s a much more interesting levelling approach, especially seeing how my friends playing the game have gone when it comes to taking classes as they level and why they claim to have tried and then rejected others. It’s an enormous personality test, even for peeps like me and my brother who have all the classes up at max level, which ones we prioritised and which ones we sort of struggled with or found a bit meh.
Hm so in the scenario that Charlie comes bursting into the Bunker demanding that she needs some friends for dungeons and raids and they’re all sitting on their asses scrolling the internet between a case, they can bloody well play final fantasy with her for a bit, let’s go for some headcanons :D Long because FFXIV has become my current obsession and I have the same in-depth feels about it as I do about SPN but I just never get to write about them with anyone...
First off, Sam of course has deep nerdery about it and will ask Charlie a ton of questions about what the right class to play is and do the same thing as we’ve already discussed and go for Paladin (which starts as gladiator), and also take all the crafting and gathering side classes because he’s a nerd and you learn nonsense lore while doing it. He’s also in the same starting zone as Thaumaturge which transitions to Black Mage and I BET he’d be tempted to have a little safe witch!Sam emotional release on the most un-Sam class. It’s the big unwieldy spell caster whose literal class quests and stuff make fun of how you’re small and squishy and will be standing in a very bad spot debating whether to finish a long-cast spell and get hit or stop DPS and run for safety. I think he could do with the perspective and learning to be selfish either way to blow off steam from tanking and also learn to prioritise himself IRL :’D Also the paladin quest is WEIRDLY pro-cop from 30 onwards for some reason until the writers saw sense and just. stopped. doing paladin stuff and went back to the Gladiator storyline for the class quests, so idk if he’d enjoy that or start to question other things. Whatever it is he’s getting challenged XD
At 60 he grabs Gunbreaker because it sounds more cool and is thankfully way less emotionally stressful tanking as it’s entirely about being a badass bodyguard and sick flips. This is far more aspirational for Sam, especially as he could just tie a knife to a sawn off shotgun and do these moves for real in his day job. He won’t, but like with black mage, the thought that he COULD is very emotionally satisfying to him.
He might also have decided to check out scholar to see how healing is but idk if he would be able to handle Dean teasing him for having a fairy follow him around so he’d only dabble with the nerd class on the side :P
Now, Dean can’t take ninja until level 10 or machinist (gun shooty DPS class) until 50, so his start point as DPS would either be pugilist (eeeey brass knuckle class!) or the other DPS classes to start with are Thaumaturge/Black Mage, Arcanist/Summoner, Archer or Lancer. Now. He’d probably think the first two are sissy because magic is for girls/arcanists literally only have a book as a weapon. Archer becomes bard and I think is ultimately a place he’d be very happy as it is a very supportive class to the whole party and basically the mom friend class. But I would love if he went lancer/dragoon because the level 50 class weapon is (folklore inspired name) “Gae Bolg” and every time I equip it I can’t help giggling at the name even though I know it’s a real thing and I shouldn’t. But. Like. It’s the class about waving enormous lances around. It’s got Implications, and Dean is drawn to those.
He’d probably, however, take rogue/ninja as soon as he could because stabbing things with knives, and the class trainer is the kinda guy who’d have wild gay tension with him while they both try to boast about women to each other, were they to meet irl. Ironically, the rogue trainer (a womanising charmer) and the ninja trainer (an intense, honourable guy bad at social cues even among his own people who ends up falling from grace and choosing to stay in the vicinity of said rogue trainer) are an interesting pair of NPCs to teach Dean about where to stick knives. :)
He’d go back and power-level dragoon once he starts Heavensward though, because Aymeric is also super intense with messy dark hair and big blue eyes that see right through you. :D He’s getting that gae bolg for him, you know?
If they’re going to bully Cas to be their healer, he’d probably get really dedicated to the discipline especially as he can stay up all night to play and doesn’t need to take breaks to pee so he’d probably level conjurer/white mage (nature healing) and scholar (ancient book lore with a class quest which mixes ancient curses on a whole people, family drama and a bit of interspeciesish love) and then also pick up astrologian, which is good because it’s spooky star and making your own fate magic. The storyline for that is garbage in the sense that it’s really weakly written, but my favourite character randomly picks up AST in the latest expansion, and has an absolutely fucking wild subtextual romance with another character, including SPN level adopting of a random child who matches Jack in many respects, with said character. And in many respects emotionally they’re Cas and Dean but without any of the personal baggage between them specifically so they really are just chill and married, whatever else they’re stressed about (I say, dreading the next patch is going to finally bring up some questions about what is going on with them as it’s getting weirdly conspicuous while still utterly unsaid). So I would hope if Cas started projecting onto an astrologian character it would be him :P
Cas also would get into summoner as the other branch of scholar because honestly those two classes are about as close to the random sigil drawing and reading things from books etc analogy to his own occult magic, except you can summon cool dragons and elementals to fight for you.
they’d buy Jack a boost to 60 and he’d pick up dark knight and white mage probably just to subtly fuck with Dean
(I am still not over Dean trying to test him to see if he was evil or not by whether he chose devil or angel cake)
