Ch 2

Elide! My love! She went to the other realm with all the fae boys. I love how they’re like, yeah, you need a horse. This poor girl needs Yrene to come make her leg better.

Ch 3

I hate everything about this very vivid torture sequence.

I hate it and it breaks my heart. When are we gonna save Aelin?

Ch 4

I missed Dorian, but I have complicated feelings about him. The last book really took me by surprise, but you know who actually could have used an entire book dedicated to his healing journey? Our boy Dorian.

(Not that I think Chaol deserved one any less - because it’s not a contest of suffering. And maybe Dorian wasn’t ready for it. Maybe he’s still not ready. The hierarchy of needs or whatever, maybe learning to harness his magic, and fighting demonic forces, and having kinky sex are all more vital to his current life situation than an inward journey of healing like Chaol. But I still think he should have one.)

(Now’s not the time, not when we got Wyrdkeys and Erawan and all the forces of hell looming on the horizon)

Ch 5

I need Elide and Lorcan to make up. See, he’s sorry. He wanted to save Aelin, Elide! Just like the rest of us!

Rowan dreams of a family he might never have 😭

Poor traumatized Rowan. I feel awful for Lyria too. She had to play fake mate to Rowan and die so that he could suffer. It’s extremely messed up! I’m sure he didn’t love her any less, even knowing now that she was never his mate. They still shared something, and they were both manipulated.

Ch 6

Too much character POV switching ahhhhhhh!!!!

I feel like nothing has happened yet? We’re just kinda getting back into the swing of things, remembering where we left off, and being reminded of the stakes that are still impossibly high.

It’s good to see Chaol and Yrene again.

I AM troubled if she turns out to be pregnant. Now’s kinda a bad time for that, considering she’s trying to be a healer on the battlefield. AND considering the fact that her life is bound to Chaol’s and he’s gonna be out there FIGHTING

Hey! They DO have contraceptives in this world. How could they be so irresponsible as to get pregnant!!!! Of all times, when you’re sailing off to war! Damn it, you two.

This scene kills me for all of these reasons. Manon takes the leap and admits she cares about him and is scared to lose him. Dorian wants to stay, wants to say yes, but can’t. 😭

This is THE example showing just how much they respect each other imo. Manon thinks she’s being smart politically, offering the alliance to keep him there, get the Crochans on her side, and position both their kingdoms for a future after the war. It is smart! But with the added layer of vulnerability in admitting her feelings, she lets that one word slip in - sacrifice. I think Dorian would’ve left regardless (he was committed to finding the wyrd key and closing the gate), but hearing her say that sealed the deal. He won’t say yes because he knows that’s not really what she wants. Or at the very least, she isn’t ready for it.

I imagine he’s thinking back to the scene in EoS when she tells him he can only have what she gives. Nothing more. He remembers this at the end of KoA when he doesn’t say what he’s thinking - what is it that you want? You, all of you. But she knows what he wants to say there. They’ve spent the entire book learning about and reading each other’s expressions and thoughts. So when Yrene blurts out what all Manorian shippers are thinking (bless you Yrene!), Manon smiles at Dorian and gives him hope with her reply. Hope for herself too, that she may need time, but she wants to do what Asterin told her to do. Live. Find happiness.

And after the marriage proposal, when Manon wakes up the next morning to find him gone, she’s hurt and disappointed but she isn’t angry with him. She understands why he left even if she didn’t want him to go. And then her thoughts of going after him are interrupted by the call for aid in Terrasen. I don’t think she really would have gone. Like Dorian wanting to stay with her, she wanted to go after him. But she knew that wasn’t her journey to take.

As much as my trash heart HATED seeing them separate here, I loved how it showed their maturity and respect for each other. Dorian knew his path, knew he had to go alone or risk failing the way Gavin had by choosing one woman (witch) over the fate of the world**. Manon knew her path, knew she had to win the Crochans over herself to gain their full support because without them, the war would be lost.

I just wish he would’ve left a note behind! 🥲

**God, just imagine what would’ve happened if she had followed Dorian and Erawan captured her! Then Dorian tearing the place apart to save her. THE ANGST!!! That whole Morath section was stressful as is. I probably wouldn’t have survived Manon being there 😂

ETA- Just wanted to add that Dorian in Morath was amazing! It really showcased his bravery and intelligence and compassion, putting him in the spotlight for once. So as much as Manon being there would’ve been great for angst, I’m glad he went alone.

First of all: Dorian, my man, my king, my powerful powerful love.

His ending was...... so freaking good. Was i sad he and manon didn’t rlly got together while foreshadowing a romance in the future? No, i was not!!!! Which..... is so strange to me but I don’t dislike Manon anymore, like at all. I think she truly repented (and suffered a lot) and she shows how she has actually changed and I thought it was v neat (the whole crochan plot was GOOD good, with her new family and everything 🤍✨ it was rlly nice to see her growing as a character). Do i want them together? No, that feels and sounds and tastes like the nastiest of the heartaches (only if she yielded her mortality like lorcan? Which... then i think it could be fine. AND BTW ELORCANNNNN PLS PLS 😭😭😭😭😭😭)

Also what was that about him saying he’d marry Yrene!!!! Dorian!!!!!! Keep it in your pants young man pls lol I laughed ngl (will i be looking for fanfics?? That’s a secret i’ll never tell)

I expected more that’s all) AND OH OH OH WHEN HE SAID HE STARTED TO REMEMBER SORSCHA IN A “GLEAMING LIGHT” OR SMTG INSTEAD OF ONLY PAINNNNNN PLS JRAHDSJHDJSHD😭😭😭 and whenever he mentioned sorscha as the woman he loves 😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫 lord i love him pls let him be happy.

Dorian is such a sweet summer sunshine of a boy. I love him so so so so SOOOOO much. He's such a great character, a true prince charming imo. He was soooo badass is KOA even when giving me 35 different heart attacks that dumbass.

I'm so glad you're feeling better about Manon hehe! I told you that you had to wait and seeeee. Her arc was amazing. I'm definitely sad it was open-ended but I'm holding out that Sarah might give us a little something something in the future. I would personally love to see how they would navigate a relationships as two leaders in two different places. They both respect each other as leaders a lot and understand what must be done which is something I love about their relationship. I'm holding out Sarah will give us SOMETHING. Their time in the tent was so sweet and as Becca likes to put it more of a see ya later than a goodbye haha. For me, I think they both needed it to be that way in the moment. They knew they likely wouldn't get another moment to be with each other like that.

Overall, I really love how they bring out different, stronger sides of each other. I love them!! And I love that you enjoyed it hehe!!

Okay this might be a long one.

The world is suffering because she got BORED?! And the Kings were just out destroying worlds while trying to find her. Wow. Random question, but does Maeve actually have any descendants? 🤔🤔🤔

They almost succeeded in saving themselves. Yay for Kadara getting help! Also I hope Falkan survives because the way he was talking to Nesryn about his niece, I think his niece is Lysandra. Which would be cool because it sounds like she’ll have a title. One that even the Lords of Terrasen couldn’t deny her.

Did Maeve have Fae warriors plant all of these books and clues to help her build defenses for when the Valg came back looking for her? Or were there Fae who figured out who she was and hid the information so future generations would figure it out and defeat her?

I’m still so torn about my feelings for Chaol. Like I’m glad he’s all better now, but going through his memories and thoughts like that just reminded me of how much of a stubborn, clueless, can’t make a damn decision to save his life, asshat he is. But then he and Yrene are so adorable ❤️ i just can’t fully hate him. It’s like a god damn yo-yo or rollercoaster. Anyway, he’s all better and set to raise an army to save Dorian so lets see how that unfolds shall we?

I knew it! I knew Yrene magic was going to be able to defeat the Valg. Yes! Damn parasites you’re going down once and for all!

Am I alone in finding it weird that Hasar seemed to go out of her way to give Chaol GOOD NEWS about Aelin winning a battle against Maeve? Even though we all know it came at great cost. That she had gathered Galan and his armada along with the Silent Assassins. That she herself had received the same request and promise of a better world. It almost seemed like she was ready to believe him, but not quite.

Of course it was Duva! The least suspect. But WHY did Chaol's spine have to break again? After all that work 😭😭 Oh well, as long as he’s not being his woe is me self pitying self again we’re good.

Yrene proved twice that she can destroy the Valg inside the hosts which is great if the can get them to hold still long enough for the healers to work on them. In doing so she earns a favor with the Khagan and of course we all know what she’s going to ask for. His army to go with Chaol and fight with Aelin.

Nesryn family arrived and are safe, yay! 🥳 She picked Salkhi as her ruk! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

I’m gonna be honest I didn’t think the Khagan was going to name his Heir ever, but I’m glad he named Sartaq, and I hope he ends the whole kill your siblings thing, and they can’t have kids thing. But when she went to bow and he immediately stoped her and said ‘never from you.’ 😍🥰😍🥰😍🥰😍🥰😍🥰😍💞💞💞💞💞💞

Chaol and Yrene GOT MARRIED!!!! I guess when your lives are already tied together and you love each other it’s really the only logical thing to do. 🤷‍♀️

OH MY GOD Chaol finally looks at the note Yrene has been carrying around. I was holding my breath hoping he would recognize the handwriting and HE DID! I’m so proud. Out of all her planning and scheming she did not count on this one act of kindness to cause such a ripple. When she finds out, when Yrene finally finds out, because Chaol didn’t tell her anything except she might want to hold onto it for a while as someone else might want to see it, it’s going to be fantastic.

I know this is already super long, but I just have to say I was super reluctant to read this book because it felt like taking a step backward in the story, but I feel like it’s on the same level as The Assassins Blade. Where I’m glad I read it because I’ll understand more in the next book. Also I went into it thinking it was going to be all about Chaol, but it wasn’t. Yes he was a big part of it, but there was also Nesryn, and Yrene who both had their own stories. I can’t wait for them to meet up with Aedion and Lysandra/Aelin. That’s going to be interesting.

Alright I’m off to read Kingdom of Ash. Though I don’t know if my heart is ready.

And of course, he isn’t permanently healed. He is only going to be able to walk, and feel strong, when Yrene feels magically strong. (Hopefully that’s more often than not!)

I hope that Yrene can cast the valg from Duva. She got distracted and didn’t get a chance to do it - but hopefully, she still can

And hopefully, that unborn baby didn’t suffer during that intense battle

This book was perfect! A nice pace, and altogether slower, softer and more emotional. It’s not what I expected at all, but I think it’s exactly what I needed. I tier it up there with my favorites for this series.

These chapters of watching him dwell on the darkest, saddest most pitiful parts of his life, and then just get given what he needs, it’s very good. I can’t believe this guy was suffering so much and no one ever knew. Poor baby.
