I think being on the internet has given a lot of leftists a drastically skewed view of how popular our beliefs are.
Most politicians support Israel because most Americans support Israel - only 8% of the population thinks the US should publicly criticize Israel.
Bernie didn't lose the primaries because the Democrats were just too scared of having a real progressive in office so they rigged the election, he lost because socialists are the least-electable people in America and because fewer people voted for him. That's how elections work. ( In b4 'but everyone else dropped out in a coordinated effort to concentrate votes behind biden!' - yeah, if your candidate can only win when the vote is split eight ways that's not a viable candidate. And I voted for Bernie!)
As of 2021 only about 15% of Americans support defunding the police, 47% would like to see increased police funding, and the number of people who think violent crime is a "very big" problem jumped 20 percentage points up to 61% in one year.
And it's just really frustrating to see internet leftists being super condescending as though everybody should already know everything and be on board with this stuff or else they're a Bad Person, driving people away from leftist ideology or making people too afraid to ask questions lest they be branded as a Centrist or worse, a Liberal, or refusing to engage in politics until they're being specifically catered to even though that would be political suicide (and would therefore not accomplish anything anyway.)
And like. It's fine to think that people who support Israel or more police funding are bad people, frankly I think a lot of them are. But I think even more are just misinformed or not really informed about alternatives at all. And not everyone is in the headspace to do education or outreach, but when you're only 10% of the population I think you need to make a choice about whether you want to feel good about being right on the internet or whether you want to be effective. It's frustrating to have to walk someone step-by-step through why genocide is bad, but it's a lot more likely to change minds than shouting at someone that they're obviously just a genocide-loving racist is.

If you're trying to get out of the Moral Purity sinkhole, I think reframing how you think and feel can be a helpful first step.
Instead of being petrified by my very thoughts being "pure," I tried to internalize that... it can't be achieved, moral purity, so instead of being pure, maybe I could be kind? Or just even nice, anything but the crushing sould-destroying urge to make everything pure enough.
I think that's why, now, I'm incredibly suspicious of any group or community that demands purity. What good is purity if you can't even focus on anything else, like being compassionate or funny or deep or anything because you must only focus on being pure?
It's really hard to break out of the moral purity merry-go-round, but I think learning how to step off before you vortex yourself into the pits of hell can be a welcome change.

Buggachat's Bakery AU
Wow, it finally ended. The series that has meant so much to me and the thing that really got me into the fandom has finally drawn to a close. I can't thank the creator @buggachat enough for such a wonderful story full of thrilling ups and downs, powerful character dynamics, and a whole lot of fun. I'm going to be thinking about this funny little comic, gonna be thinking about it for a long time but if there's anything I can say it'd be to check it out yourself and to thank the creator for making over 200 comics for it free for everyone to enjoy. What a satisfying conclusion to such a special story.
I love this fandom, I love this series and I want to thank you BuggaChat from the bottom of my heart for creating such a masterpiece <3

yeah this is the version i would've preferred i guess. with mhok still going to the usa and it being emotional and him trusting day to take care of himself and forgiving himself for not having picked up his sister's phone call still being obstacles he has to work through; but without the break-up. i'm just not convinced break-ups are the only way to convey couples working through a rough patch and needing their own space to grow you know?

Your Miguel O’hara art is PHENOMENAL
Girl slay
Do more!
Haha, thank you so much, I'm glad you like it!
Honestly, I was pretty sure the hype for spiderverse and Miguel specifically would have died down by now, but that doesn't really seem to be the case, which is wonderful lmao! The only reason I haven't drawn more of him recently is cuz I've been insanely busy, but perhaps I can try and put some time off in-between commissions to draw him some more!😁

Adding a few of my own points to the Darkner discussion if that's alright! Personally I do think that escapism is part of Deltarune but in a different sense that theory. I see it more as being that the Dark Worlds are built to serve Lightners by providing them with a fun adventure for the day. Of what we've seen so far the Worlds have some theming around escapist activities like board games and the internet, so I think the general concept is there but not in a "oh yeah this is fine and dandy ^u^" way, rather it's more in a "these people are burdened with being nothing but the fantasies that they'll never get to explore themselves" way. At the end of the day it's just another aspect of how Darkners are always getting the short end of the stick.
i understand what you mean, but that's exactly the point i'm speaking against. the dark worlds aren't representative of escapism at all – just the opposite, in fact. the game tells us such right at the start of the game – only eyes blinded by darkness can see the way. the dark world is where the often-uncomfortable truth of the world is played out – the nature of darkners as objects is as plain as day there. and just look at what happens there! kris is still possessed and is distressed by the horrible situation the darkners are under; berdly certainly doesn't get the fantasies he constantly chatters on about; problems the lightner kids face are reflected in the new ones they take on in the dark world; susie still thinks in terms of lancer and ralsei in the light world rather than wanting to hangout in the dark world all the time; snowgrave exists – i could go on. it just isn't congruous to say that's what they represent.
let me put it another way. in a reading of the text where deltarune is about escapism in such a way, the status quo would be that the dark worlds are escapist fantasies made for the lighters to spend time in. to break that status quo and see the reading to its end, the dark worlds would have to be closed and left behind, and the characters must all return to the light world and learn to accept it as is. but if you look at the events of deltarune itself, you'll see that the status quo is that the dark worlds must be repeatedly closed and the characters repeatedly must return to the light world and accept it as is. the dark worlds are disposable in this status quo. you can't alter the status quo by following the status quo. that just doesn't work. escapism as a reading necessitates that "escaping from the light world" is an issue that needs to be solved – which doesn't exactly work when the light world itself is the crux of the problem. it's just a theory i prickle against for just about every reason it exists for.

Today in fish nonsense! 🐟🐠- Tank is good to go! Cool wood piece is cleaned and time to spend way too long on a plan painting.
More below the cut.
Tank has been set up, leak tested so it's good to go (after I overhauled the layout of my office ... still dealing with the fallout of that though lol) and the piece of jarrah/mirra? wood that my Dad grabbed from the tree he cut down on a farm (noting this specifically because it's actually now illegal to commercially harvest Jarrah in my state - this was on private property so it's legal) has had the absolute crap scrubbed out of it - I mean literally, in the process I found yet another interesting hole in it so that's cool, then high-pressure blasted with water so I am finally ready to think about scaping.
Which apparently means spending longer than I should drawing a plan lol. This piece is super awkward to work with I think - while functionally interesting it has a silhouette that makes me oscillate between 'boring' and 'awkward'. After talking to some artist friends, generally it was agreed I'd need to put more stuff in there to actually make it look better, right now naked glass is super harsh. Problem is, rocks and wood? Well in the aquarium hobby that shit is expensive. We're talking 60 AUD+ for pieces of wood. I mean they are fully cleaned and treated (?) and selected for being interesting, but I have a budget and I'd like to save as much of it as I can for more than just harscape sooooo planning is just the right idea here.
Thinking seiryu stone because I looooove the white veining through it, and then for the branches to break up the shape it's probably going to be spiderwood or something (as much as I love mopani wood I don't think it usually sells branched like this - but I will watch out for it) but the good part is these pieces are all probably going to be on the smaller side since I have my huge hunk of feature wood for free.
I don't know how this piece of wood will interact with inhabitants, I've soaked it for probably a month at this point to get a large amount of the tannins out (and I know it waterlogs, which is great because I won't have to play 'how long will this take to sink') but also to help the looser material come off so all I'm left with now is the hard stuff. It's also now sitting in the sun (and I mean sun - it is going to be 40C today and the next few days so that shit is gonna bake 💀) but prior to that has been sitting in the sun either here or the farm for a total of about idk ... at least a month? Maybe more?
I've struggled to find information on whether Jarrah or Mirra wood is safe beyond one post on a forum where someone-who-knew-someone at a local fish shop had put a piece of this in his store tank and all the fish died. Beyond that? no more context. According to my freshwater ecologist friend I caught up with, she thinks it's probably going to be okay given the amount of time/work put in. I have not done a bleach soak and I don't think I really need to given the amount of time it's been soaking in regular tap water (so already contains chlorine) and sun exposure. There will still probably be tannin leakage into the water but I'm okay with having a mild blackwater tank after seeing one in my LFS, I actually like the slight tannin tint of water and how it makes everything a little 'softer'. But I do ACTUALLY want to be able to see though lmao. I've also seen Jarrah seed pods sold locally specifically for blackwater tank setups so it might be fine?
Either way the plan is going to be: Scape, plant, cycle and then introduction of some cheap shrimp as my poor guinea pigs to see if that wood actually is awful.
Right now I'll just have to painstakingly go through plant choices and placement and making sure it lines up with the planned parameters for the community. I absolutely will take suggestions btw.
More soon. Fish nonsense will contain fish ... at some point. I swear lmao.

Hiiii🩷🩷 I have a question... does Yohan think that Gaon loves Soo Hyun in a romantic way😳? If so, oh boy thats a huge misunderstanding to clear. Also, thank you for the amazing update!!! I'm sure as hell sticking around on this journey to see these two work out their feelings!!
Hi there! 💜
Yes, he does. Because Yo Han's got no reason to believe otherwise, based on how Ga On is behaving. He can tell that Ga On is attracted to him, sure, but that's physical. And sexual and romantic attraction are two entirely different things. One doesn't guarantee the other and just because you feel one — or even both — you don't actually have to act on it.
I'm more or less writing Yo Han like a bisexual demiromantic, i.e. he's good at recognising sexual tension/attraction but he's not very experienced with love. He's never really been in love before because he's never allowed himself to get close enough to someone to actually fall in love. And when you combine this with his upbringing and lack of social interaction with other people? Love is probably pretty tricky for him.
Not in a "he doesn't feel it" way because he does — and he knows that he does — but he's not the best at reading it in other people. Not at all helped by how he just doesn't get the whole "love at first sight" thing (because, again, demiromantic), which has made him wonder if, just maybe, his concept of love is different from everyone else's. He knows what love means to him and he's seen other people be in love (like Isaac and his wife) but applying that to his and Ga On's relationship is very difficult for him, especially with Soo Hyun complicating things.
Like, if Yo Han tries to compare how Ga On behaved around/treated Soo Hyun (who he assumes Ga On was in love with) to how Ga On behaves around/treats Yo Han, he can see a lot of differences. And it's a problem when his method for figuring this whole situation out is: "That is how Kim Ga On behaves when he's in love and, if he doesn't, he's probably not in love with me." Because that misses the part where people don't always behave the exact same way when they're in love (because it can be influenced by who they're interested in) and, if anything, it should be the other way around.
At this point, it's probably better to look at how Ga On behaves around you, Yo Han, not Soo Hyun, if you want to figure out what he's like when he's in love x'D
... but he doesn't know that, of course.
So, in short: Yo Han knows that Ga On cares about him and he knows that Ga On is sexually attracted to him, but he has no way of knowing if Ga On is in love with him. Yo Han has too little experience with it to be able to gauge that.
But, at this point? He thinks that Ga On is just too in love with Soo Hyun to ever love him (which is what this post was about)
And, in a very heartbreaking way, he's kind of grateful that Ga On made it clear he's not going to act on what's between them because Yo Han assumes it's only sexual attraction and some confused fondness on Ga On's end anyway. And Yo Han would just... rather not if that's all Ga On can give him. Because, for once, he doesn't just want sex — he wants love, too.
... this man is, once again, a goddamn onion.
(and will make you cry just as much as one)
And, for my own sake, I'm going to have to make a detour and write Yo Han's POV of what happens after he's gone into his bedroom because I SWEAR THE FUCKING BASTARD WON'T LEAVE ME ALONE. There is SO MUCH GOING ON in his head and snippets keep inconveniently popping up at irregular intervals, distracting me. And as soon as I push one aside, the next one pops up.
It's like a never-ending game of angsty Whac-A-Mole.
Someone save me.
ANYWAY. I'm glad you liked the update! And thank you so much for wanting to stick around 💜 I was genuinely worried about how you all would react to this chapter. Like, who's insane enough to throw in a rejection 400k into a story? People have probably gotten chased down with pitchforks for less.
So thank you for the trust, support, and dedication — it means a lot to me 💜

I was going to also make a ref sheet for Gale for my first art fight, but now that I have that research exception I imagine I'm going to be spending pretty much all of my free time cramming 6 months of capstone into 6 weeks, so
So here, have what I had finished before, because there's currently no reason for me to finish any outfits v_v
