idk if ur still taking requests/ideas or not, but if so, do you think you could write a little something about Magnus taking in a young warlock and teaching them magic, like how Ragnor did all those years ago with him?
I’m sorry this took so long, anon. I hope you’re still around✨
——
Crickets chirped loudly from their hiding places, and a breeze blew across the crowded alley holding the Kyoto Shadow Market, raining bright fall leaves onto the stalls. Magnus generally preferred to come to Kyoto in spring time, when it was the cherry blossoms shedding their petals like a warm pink blizzard, but fall certainly had its charms as well.
He stopped to examine a stall selling fruit and flowers gathered from the parts of Faerie more easily accessed from gateways in Japan, and harder to find in New York. He was contemplating the flowers, trying to determine which he might need for potions in the near future, when he noticed movement out of the corner of his eye.
Magnus grabbed the hand before it could reach out and snatch one of the fruits. “I wouldn’t do that,” he murmured, soft enough that only the would-be-thief could hear. “Stolen faerie food isn’t safe to eat.”
“Let go of me, asshole!” the girl he had grabbed said in the kind of stilted English that had likely never been used outside of a classroom full of kids giggling over swear words they had learned to fluster the teacher. She was wearing a school uniform track suit with a huge scarf wound around her neck.
Magnus steered the girl away from the faerie stall before she could draw more attention to herself.
“Is this your first time in a Shadow Market,” he asked, switching to Japanese.
The girl looked relieved and stopped trying to struggle out of his grip. “I didn’t know where to go. I saw lights I had never seen before, and I followed them here.” Her free hand reached up to touch the scarf around her neck, bulkier than the material should have been, and Magnus had an inkling of what the answers to the rest of his questions were going to be.
They had broken out of the thickest part of the crowd, and Magnus spotted a stall selling noodles, the stools around the bar-like table shielded by a half curtain.
The girl watched him warily as he ordered two bowls of noodles and gestured for her to sit down. “I don’t have any money,” she said.
“I know,” Magnus replied. “It’s obvious that you’ve never tried to steal anything before. If you’d had money, you would have used it. Sit down, you must be hungry.”
The girl sat and looked between her bowl of noodles, topped with a thin slice of fried tofu, and the fox-like faerie who had served them to her. “Kitsune udon,” she muttered under her breath, with the air of someone still astonished to find out how much of their folklore was based on truth. “I never thought about why it was called that.”
“Do you have a name?” Magnus asked. She might not yet, depending on how long it had been since she found out what she was. Magnus hadn’t for a long time in the gap between the normal child he thought he had been and the person he had found himself to be.
“Aoi,” the girl mumbled, swallowing a mouthful of soup. She ate slowly, Magnus noticed, taking a long time between one bite of food and the next. He also noticed that she hadn’t removed her scarf, despite the warmth of the noodle stall.
“I’m going to make a guess, and I want you to tell me how close I am,” Magnus said. “Something about you changed suddenly, and frightened you so badly, you ran away. Kyoto is filled with foxfire lights, which you were suddenly able to see. You followed them here and found yourself surrounded by all manor of things you thought only existed in stories.”
Aoi nodded, something about the movement awkward and uncoordinated. “I turned into a monster,” she whispered.
“Not a monster,” Magnus said gently. “A warlock, a magic user, like I am. Warlocks bear marks showing what they are,” he gestured at his own cat eyes, “but sometimes the marks and the ability to use magic don’t come until a child is older.” Aoi look like she was thirteen or fourteen. Old for a warlock mark to manifest, but not unheard of.
“It was my school trip. Everything was normal, and then suddenly it wasn’t,” she said. “They all screamed when they saw me,” she added in a strained whisper.
“No one here will scream,” Magnus said.
Aoi unwound her scarf, revealing an elongated neck, coiled around itself like a snake, that she had done her best to hide under the fabric. She watched Magnus warily, like she still expected him to scream and run for the hills. When he didn’t, she relaxed a little.
“How did this happen to me?” she asked.
Magnus sighed. “Warlocks are children of humans and demons. The demonic blood is what marks us and gives us the ability to use magic, but it doesn’t make us monstrous or evil. No more than any other person at least. Some demons can shapeshift. It’s likely your mother never knew what had happened.”
Aoi scrubbed a hand over her eyes, wiping away the tears before they could fall. “I can’t ever go home.”
“Do you know that for sure?” Magnus said gently. “You said your warlock mark appeared during a school trip. There’s a chance your family will still welcome you home.” It happened, sometimes, to warlocks who were lucky.
“Did your family welcome you?”
“No,” Magnus said. “But I have friends who grew up loved, despite what they are. The choice is yours. If you want to return home, I’ll go with you and help explain your situation. If you would rather stay here, I’ll teach you how to navigate the Market and how to glamor yourself so normal humans won’t notice your warlock mark.”
“I want my mom,” Aoi said in the kind of small plaintive voice that made her sound very, very young.
Magnus waved his hands, a Portal forming right inside the curtain of the stall. The kitsune behind the counter glared at him. Most Downworlders considered it rude to open Portals in the middle of the Market. Magnus ignored him and stood up.
“Then let’s go and hope for the best,” Magnus said. “Think of home and this will take us straight there.”
Aoi’s eyes went wide with awe. She looked down at her own hands. “Will I be able to do this kind of magic?”
“With enough time and training,” Magnus said. “Being a warlock isn’t all bad,” he added with a wink. “Now think about home.”
Aoi wound her scarf back around her coiled neck, took a deep breath, and led the way through the Portal.

la squadra's favourite soups >:)
I was asked by a good friend to really give this one my all and then some, so prepare for a lot of flavor text, ehehe.
Risotto: From Sicily he brings his love of traditional Peperonata, brewed rather thick and served with some crusty bread for mopping, as well as the conviction that soup, whether simple or complex, should be a complete meal onto itself. You won't see him serving anything on the clear or thin side because it might as well be a drink then; Ribollita and French Onion Soup are his idea of good vegetarian home cooking, and if he makes soup with meat, he will buy up the cheap cuts, bone in, and load the pot to the brim.
Formaggio: He will always take what he can get of course, but you won't catch him ordering soup anywhere, because the ones he truly cares for are either the sort of home cooking restaurants often scoff at like the humble Stracciatella, or something restaurants often get wrong such as authentic Goulash. The latter especially is his darling and he wants it home cooked with carrots, potatoes and egg noodles, but Risotto's best efforts still do not compare to how he remembers it from his mother's table.
Prosciutto: He will only touch soup if it's strong enough in itself - he would never order any with the idea of fixing it in post by adding chili. From mildest to hottest, he would appreciate a concentrated Beef Bouillon with or without the trimmings, might also like Frutta Di Mare All'acqua Pazza if the water is "crazy" enough, and would love a good Tom Yum, but his prime favorite would be a bone marrow soup like Bulalo, where there's plenty of richness and flavorful meat to go around. He must have all the marrow, of course.
Pesci: He's on the opposite end of the spectrum from Prosciutto due to his acid reflux and prefers his soups on the mild side while also eschewing those with a tomato base or onions if he can help it. You cannot go wrong with a classic Chicken Noodle, but he especially likes smooth vegetable soups like butternut squash with toasted croutons on top, and he would be first in line for anything that uses cream or other dairy, like Seafood Chowder (any type of chowder would be a big hit with him) or Yayla Çorbası.
Ghiaccio: He is at odds with soup because to his mind it's not a proper meal, and there are textures and flavors he finds repulsive, so it's a struggle. When he has any, it's usually small portions he can quickly drink or eat: clear bone broth is as close as he can venture to bouillon because the meaty flavor is negligible, and he appreciates your standard Miso for the tofu and the crunch of green onions and beansprouts, as long as the bean paste is mild. If he had the means or access, he would love the concept of Nabemono in general.
Melone: In his sickly childhood he ate a lot of Acquacotta, which he still craves sometimes despite having developed a gluten allergy, and unfortunately for him, the list of forbidden delights does not stop there. He loves a good Zuppa Imperiale, but again, the semolina in the dough cubes is a menace, and anything made with cream will avenge itself unless he takes his Lactaid. Of the soups he can safely have, he has most taken to Borscht for the excellent taste as well as its vibrant color, and has proclaimed it a health food.
Illuso: This one, in spite of his upbringing, is a soup purist who believes that soup is strictly a first course, and therefore it should be something simple and light that is easy on the stomach and whets your appetite for the rest of the meal. He loves Gazpacho and could drink it like a smoothie, and is fond of Caldo Verde with its single slice of chorizo (it's like finding the prize in your Galette de Rois), but in winter he will branch out and have Minestra di Noci as often as they can get walnuts, perhaps with some chestnuts added in.
Sorbet: Here we have someone who appreciates a wider range, but having grown up on odds-and-ends type soups often poorly made, his standards are now much higher even for something as simple as plain Caraway Soup, and he has been working on improving them all. His favorite by far is any type of lentil soup such as Minestra di Lenticchie or Masoor Dal, for the taste as well as lentils symbolizing abundance, and when he craves something sweet, any Fruit Soup will be welcome before savory main courses, hot or chilled.
Gelato: Cannot live without soup and never met one he did not like; in fact he regularly cooks a variety of them including Fruit Soup, though to him that is in the dessert category. His greatest favorites are made with sausage or entrails: think Fabada for the chorizo or Menudo for the tripe, as well as any type of meatball soup. He's not big on pasta in soup (he prefers egg noodles), but if the ravioli is filled with ground offal (mostly liver or heart, as kidney and lungs are much harder to come by nowadays), he will gladly have it.

Corrupted: TMA x Malevolent Crossover
Tim Stoker opened a book he shouldn't, and now he's got a new friend who calls himself John -
And is very much not a John.
Facing cultists, fear gods, and very little information, Tim is trying to handle it all -
But he's been marked by the Desolation, and little by little, finding it harder to say no to rage.
------------
Tim is so relieved the cultists are gone that he leans against the door. “Yellow. Yellow, what was that. Yellow. That was not cool, Yellow.”
Yellow is back to dark chortling.
“Ugh.” Tim grabs his wallet.
And what do you plan to do now?
“Groceries. I gotta live, even with all this going on.”
Fair enough.
Tim holds his wallet. He can feel it with both hands. See it with one eye. “What do you think Kayne meant by a time limit?”
I… don’t know. Maybe losing your body parts. Maybe he’s set a spell to kill you. I honestly have no idea.
“Right. Okay. I need you thinking, Yellow. Our goal, first, is to get you unhooked from that damn book.”
Silence.
“You don’t like that, huh? Been your safe space for a long time. Well… Kayne has it now. It’s not safe for you anymore.”
Nowhere is.
“Maybe we can make a safe space. That’s just one of the things on the docket, anyway.”
Yellow sighs. And what else do you believe is on our docket?
“First, the book, so if something goes wrong, you don’t go zinging right to him - because I’m pretty sure you’d rather die quick than go hang out with Satan. Am I right?”
It sounds… difficult for Yellow to answer. You are right.
“Two: we need to figure out how to protect you from the god-eating thingummies.”
There is no way to protect me from the… thingummies.
“Bet you’ve never said that word in thousands of years, eh?”
Tim…
Tim puts in his earbuds and locks his door. “Third, we need to figure out this mark thing.”
Tim.
“Are you gonna try to tell me this docket isn’t applicable?”
Silence.
Tim takes the stairs. It’s been a few days since he had the chance to work out, and the last thing he needs to do now is lose any fitness.
He’s silent on the way to the store. Silent as he shops, choosing things that will hopefully not go bad too quickly. Silent as he carries it all back, eschewing public transport, because he needs to stay in shape.
He does a few bicep curls with the groceries on his way back up the stairs.
What are you planning to make?
“Curry.”
I’ve had curry. It’s lovely.
Right. During the times Yellow had stolen someone’s body. “Sorry I can’t share it with you. So, hey - can I use my mark to keep you safe?”
Excuse me?
“It’s rage and destruction, right? I’m assuming this doesn’t mean just… walking around, punching things. Does power come with it?”
Tim. I don’t know what this idea is you’ve concocted, but drop it.
“So it does, then.”
Tim.
And that’s less patient. That’s less amused. Tim must be toeing some line, but he doesn’t know enough to identify it yet. “Hear me out, okay?” He cracks open a package of tofu.
Go on.
That was condescending.
Tim doesn’t roll his eyes, but it’s close. “The Desolation is one of those god-eaters, right?”
Yes.
“So no one, logically, would be looking for you anywhere near something that felt like it.”
Or, conversely, by channeling its power, you could draw it to me.
“Well, do we know which?”
Tim… this is not a game.
“Says the guy who just threw cultists at me for a laugh.” Tim starts the tofu cooking.
We won’t get second chances. If you draw something to us, it’s over.
“You’re already drawing them, right? And the mark will inevitably turn me into a ball of rage anyway, right? So. How do we flip the narrative?”
Your hope is a fragile thing, says Yellow suddenly. Worrisome. It’s based on so little; it can’t possibly withstand a storm.
Tim sighs and stops slicing carrots. “Then I’d like to know what you want me to do.”
Study magic. Lay low.
“That won’t work, Yellow.” He resumes chopping.
The barest wave of irritation rises. It has worked so far.
“And the cat’s out of the bag now. Kayne has the book. Bouchard knows we’re here. Dagon just died really messily in a place that supposedly has no gods, and you can’t tell me nobody noticed. One of those fucking god-eaters has already found us and marked me. We can’t do it the way you’ve been doing it, Yellow.”
Cthulhu sighs. Am I going to have to break your mind, after all?
“Stop that,“ says Tim, lighter than he feels. "You’re not gonna.” It all goes in the wok with a sizzle and lovely smell.
Aren’t I.
Flat delivery. Unreadable.
Tim mostly believes Yellow won’t.
Tim has to believe Yellow won’t.
“No. You’d be bored to death, dealing with those three numb-nuts instead of my winning personality.”
So young. Yellow seems to say that to himself.
Tim sighs and settles in to eat his first real meal in days.
For a while, that’s all that matters.
“Fuck, that’s good,” he says, mouth-breathing because it’s too hot.
I’m sure.
“You thinking like I asked you to?”
Silence.
“Come on, Yellow, don’t give up yet. They don’t even have us yet. We’re still free. We could fly to Borneo, if we had to.”
They do have you. You are marked.
A tiny bit of irritation (except it’s too heated to be irritation) flares in Tim. He covers it by stabbing nothing with his fork, emphatic. “Still don’t really know what that means.”
This universe is… cancerous.
Tim stops chewing. “What, for real?”
Yes. It is inhabited by beings which should not exist - mutations, born of human and animal fear, somehow… given life.
“You don’t know? Does anybody know?”
No. By the time we noticed this mess, it had been going on for some time. And we noticed, Tim, because the gods from this timeline were disappearing.
“Just not making phone calls, or what?”
Their domains were empty. Abandoned. Their followers suddenly bereft. Those things they controlled - if they did - went wildly out of control, or ceased to be entirely. Tim, there are so many things no longer existing in this timeline - from dragons to proper geological magics - that will never exist here again because they were tied to deific existence.
“So I’m in the extinction timeline for more than just… spotted owls.”
It took a while to see what was happening because the Fears are not gods; even those with personalities - such as the Web - don’t truly have personality. They ape it. So… seeking for living things responsible for what happened did not work.
“And gods kept disappearing.” Tim gets seconds. The curry is good.
Yes. In the end, those gods who remained fled - merging with alternates of themselves in other universe, or taking up spaces left empty by their never-existence.
“So Kayne was right, and you really are bugfuck crazy to be hiding out here.” Tim cracks open a beer.
It was… an unexpected choice. And it paid off.
“Until me.”
Tim isn’t used to guilt. He tries to be a decent person; he volunteers in the community, he donates to charity. He knows he makes mistakes, which everyone does. He doesn’t live his life in shame or sorrow.
Guilt, he is discovering, is a really bad feeling.
He swallows into the silence. “I’m sorry.”
I admit, I briefly wondered if I’d misjudged you, seen you as better than you are, says Yellow. But now that I see the mark you bear, it makes sense.
“Still. I’m the one who did it.” Tim has to change the subject. “Hey - is anything else hiding in that book?”
Who knows? I still am at a loss to explain Dagon .
“At least you two weren’t close?”
He snorts. No.
“So if you’re at a loss there… then you admit you don’t know everything.”
Tim…
“I’m just saying. There really may be some avenue of help that you don’t know about because you never looked.”
Yellow sighs.
“And,” continues Tim, “if I really am Merlin, or whatever, I could help you find it.”
You would be at risk.
“I”m already at risk. Doomed, in fact, according to the narrative, apparently.”
More immediate. Not the same.
And Tim is surprised at how angry he is at the warmth in Yellow’s voice.
The affection, the fondness - they weren’t real at all, were they?
Not likely.
Yellow had been briefly honest when upset: if he had a chance, he would take Tim’s body. Maybe he’d feel a little sad that Tim had to be put down like an unwanted mutt, but that was about it.
It shouldn’t matter. It should not.
It does.
“Let’s just get real here, shall we?” says Tim in a low voice he hardly recognizes. “You’re not worried for me. You’re worried for you. You’re worried I’m going to do something that triggers whatever clause it is that sends you to Kayne, or do something that draws those god-eating freaks to you which will eat you slowly. Stop pretending it’s my welfare that concerns you, and maybe we can actually make some fucking progress.”
He stops.
He stops breathing.
Stops anything.
That was…
Horrible.
Except it wasn’t horrible.
But it wasn’t him. Tim swallows. His eyes are filling.
Yellow is quiet.
“Marked, huh?” Tim whispers, wiping tears.
Yes.
“Fuck,” says Tim, softly. "I didn’t even know it was happening.”
That’s the point. It’s in you. Part of you - and wouldn’t have ever been able to mark you if you didn’t have proclivities toward that rage, says Yellow, and it is gentle, and it feels real.
“But I’m not - ” He’s getting angry over that, and keeps his tone even. “I’m not an angry person. I’ve never been.”
You never had need to be. A man may have genius talent for sculpting clay, but unless he attempts to do so, will live and die without ever knowing the skill is there.
“Real pretty way of saying I’m gonna turn into a rage monster.” It comes out more bitter than expected.
There may be… something we can do. Unfortunately, I believe it requires returning to Bouchard.
“Ugh. Well. Needs must.” Tim blows his nose, then goes to wash his bowl and clean the wok.
He also notes that Yellow did not deny anything he said in his little rant.
It hurts.
Stupid, Tim tells himself, to get hurt over the fact that Cthulhu doesn’t really like him. What the hell, Stoker?
“Did you think maybe Bouchard is the reason the Desolation found us?” Tim says.
If so, then we will have some words to exchange, won’t we?
“What, am I gonna rough him up?”
Yellow laughs.
Fair.
Yellow, however, never answers as to what Tim will do.
A tiny, disturbing part of him wants to be angry at that.
But Tim does not. Tim doesn’t.
He won’t let this thing win. This… weird, infectious rage.
There has to be a way.
Tim texts Happy and asks if there is any kind of an ETA for magical translations, then stares at what he just sent.
“What even is my life?” Tim mumbles.
Precious. We will see it preserved.
"Sure.”

How do you make a good salad? I been trying to eat healthier and this could help!
ive gotten so good at this oh you have no idea.. my bf is a master chef of salad
a salad is a bowl of texture with a sauce that makes the texture taste good
put as many things as you can in there. just nothing soft. doesn't have to have much lettuce. possibilities: cucumber, cherry tomatoes, zucchini (raw), red onion, green onion, carrots, bell peppers, broccoli, broccoli stem, kohlrabi, cauliflower, cooked root vegetables (raw or pickled beets are really good if you cut them very thin). You don't even need lettuce or any leafy green (their main purpose is to be rough and ragged and hold a lot of dressing compared to, like, a cucumber slice)! Just make a bowl of texture!
fruit is good too, for tartness and sweetness. apple slices, dried cranberries, raisins. my secret weapon: dried figs. not too expensive and you only need a few. slice them up. if you can find fresh herbs for not-crazy expensive, those are flavor bombs. throw a sprig of dill in there. or basil.
protein in the form of meat or tofu if you want it. not required
invest in a big thing of nuts (walnuts work well, relatively cheap) and some kind of crumbly cheese (feta is ideal bc cheap, blue if you like stinky). get them at costco if you can. sprinkle just a little of both on top. if you have tortilla chips / potato chips lying around sprinkle some on too. it makes a difference. you get occasionally nutty or cheesy bites. variety. it's exciting and dynamic
the dressing: make your own if you can. make a big batch and keep it in the fridge. a decent "house" dressing is: one part honey, one part red wine vinegar, one part white wine vinegar, one part olive oil. add peanut butter OR tahini (my favorite, seriously, it's magic - not a lot, just a little) for a nice creaminess. other good dressings, search them, there's many recipes: white miso dressing (my personal favorite out of all i've tried), greek yogurt dressing, various takes on "dragon bowl dressing" (based around nutritional yeast and tahini), roasted red pepper dressing (grinding up canned roasted red peppers into a paste) or a really simple balsamic vinegar dressing (balsamic + olive oil + mustard + some source of sweetness). ranch also exists
final life hack: toss the salad before you make it, with the dressing. then move it into the bowl you'll eat it from. when you pour it like this, the smallest bits (crunchy stuff) that was on the bottom of the first bowl after being tossed end up on the top of the salad. i take this very seriously.
tim this seems expensive
it can be, especially upfront. the condiments i have available to me are like 5 types of vinegar, nice olive oil, miso, mirin, tahini, peanut butter, nuts, cheese, nutritional yeast. all those together, most bought from costco, probably cost about 175 bucks but last for many months. thing about a good salad is that you need a great many items but only a tiny amount of each of them.
as for fresh veggies. i get mine from a farm co-op. i go pick them up once a week for 33 bucks, they're fresh-picked and i swear it's like 60 dollars worth of veggies if i got them at the store because i live in quebec and veggies have always been fucking expensive up here. (only problem, if you're a picky eater or have dietary constraints, is you can't always choose what you get). i eat them every meal and still struggle to finish them by the time the next week rolls around. a lot of places have excess produce programs that are similar.
so for me, now, it's cost-effective because i'm eating salads like every day and i have a huge variety so I never get bored. but I had to commit. I only go grocery shopping for, like, condiments, chips, eggs, milk, cream, rice. and I don't eat a ton of meat.
obviously this is not accessible to everyone, because Hell World and food deserts and subsidies for grain only. i didn't even mention the labor of cleaning + chopping all these things. but hopefully this gives you an idea of what you could do with what you have. (you do not, as i do, need to own five types of vinegar.)

No Judgement Casserole Recipe
My Dear Tumbles,
It has been in my attention that recipes you may find have been quite judgemental about how you go about cooking them. I plan to do something about that. Starting with a casserole.... Mostly because that's what I made for dinner.
What you shall need:
Your largest baking dish. Not a flat sheet, a dish. It can be a Pyrex dish- please make sure it is safe for oven use-, a casserole dish your great-grandnan used time and time before, a Dutch oven, anything. As long as it has high walls and is oven safe, you're fine.
A pot or something to cook your grain. So long as it cooks your grain, you're fine.
An optional mixing bowl! :D This is optional, because maybe you don't want to add to your dishes or just think it's silly. That's fine. Or maybe you need it because you might have more than your dish can handle, because proportions? What proportions? You do you, boo.
Grain of your choice. This can be pasta of fun shapes, fresh or from a box/bag. Could be rice. Honestly, those are the only two I know and cook with, so have fun if you use some other grain. (No, your pasta doesn't have to be one thing or another. If you like whole wheat, use that. If you like egg pasta, use that. You use what you like. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise.)
Vegetables. Fresh, frozen, in a can. Eat your veggies please. Or don't. I'm not your Baba. I'm just a Tumblr user, giving you a relaxed recipe.
Cream of Whatever. Can be Mushroom, Celery, Bacon, Potato, Chicken, whatever. Hell, it can be your favourite Alfredo sauce. I don't care, just make sure it's a creamy base. This can be from a can/jar or fresh made. Whatever suits you.
Protein. Can be fish or bird, maybe pork. I do not recommend red meats for this, but hey. You wanna be adventurous? Be my guest. Tell me how it goes. You can also use a meat-substitute like tofu. So long as you're getting protein. I will say, cook your fresh meats beforehand, as this dish will not take long in the oven.
Cheese or cheese-substitute. Freshly shredded or pre-shredded. Crumbly or slices. What ever it will take to cover the top of the mix. Please try to match flavour profiles, unless you wanna be adventurous. Tell me how that goes.
And lastly, Bread Crumbs. Panko or fresh. Don't matter. It's there for a fun little crunch. Or don't add it. It's up to you.
How to make it:
Before I jump into it, I'm just going to use my usual ingredients/method for those that want an idea on how to proportion this- despite my earlier commentary. Please substitute as needed.
In a pot on the stove, boil half a pound of pasta. (That is a half a bag/box that state 1lb) You can wait for the water to boil before adding the pasta or, lightly salt the water and add the pasta from the start. I like to use rotini, penne or elbow. Or a mix if I have small quantities of each.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
While that cooks- you'll want to get the pasta to a firm NOT CRUNCHY bite-, in your optional mixing bowl, (the baking dish if you decide to opt not to) mix a 12oz bag of frozen veggies- dealer's choice-, 2 10.5oz cans of Cream of Mushroom, 2 5oz cans of tuna in water- drain one can of said water-, and about 1-2 of the cream-mushroom cans of milk/cream/half&half/water. (For those that wanna use Alfredo, it'll be JUST half a jar of diluter.)
Add in optional spices/herbs. This is optional because I'm a scatterbrain who forgot to add any in. It still tastes good either way, so follow the flavour profile of your condensed soup/sauce and protein/chez/not-chez. (For this, oregano, ground pepper, thyme, and rosemary will do. You can also use a small amount of garlic- fresh, dried, or powder- as well.)
Once your pasta is cooked enough, mix it in too. (Put the mixture into your baking dish if you went the optional mixing bowl route.) Cover the top with cheese and bread crumbs. (Cheese then bread crumbs, for little crunch. Just cheese, for those who don't want crunch.)
Put into preheated oven and bake for 15-20minutes. Let cool afterwards and enjoy!
Tell me if you make this and what you used to make it, either in the tags or in a reblog! (I'mma turn off replies for this so that way folks ain't gonna have to be oppressed by word limits.)
Remember! This is a No Judgement Casserole. Do not judge others for what they use.

Cooking
Tumblr media
I like food and I like cooking, despite the fact that I am not good at it and I do not do it often.
Often there is no good reason why we enjoy things that we like. But to me, cooking her recipes may be the only way that I can feel connected with my late mom. Maybe it’s because cooking resonates with the ideas that mom used to talk about. Maybe because cooking is the only time when I am not afraid to experiment and do not need to think about failing. I stopped drawing because I was too afraid I would not be able to draw well anymore. I keep writing but it does not make me feel as complete as when I cook. Cooking is the only time when you feel fully alive because you use all of your five senses. ‘It differentiates us from other animal species’, says Michael Pollan.
I am now half way doing my PhD and I was constantly faced with doubts and anxieties. That kind of fear is something that never crosses my mind every time I cook. I make endhog brambang lombok a hundred times and have failed many times, but I feel okay about it. I make sambal from scratch with different combinations of ingredients and composition and many times it doesn’t work, but I do not feel sorry for myself. Maybe because there is no consequence, and in what other ways in your grown-up life can you do something else without having to think about the consequence?
When I learn paper conservation, it feels like when I learn about coffee. Everything connects to each other and you cannot just rely on one thing. Everything is (almost) equal. Sometimes it is about technique, sometimes it is about intuition, but most of the time it is about being open.
When I teach paper conservation, it feels like I teach cooking. You do not only convey information and your students do not need to visualize abstract ideas. The class is real, tactile, and three-dimensional. It is hands-on and is about patience and repetition. It should be clean. It should be natural. Different tools, spices, time, moods, temperatures, humidity, knowledge, and experiences will produce different results. You have to know the objects you are dealing with and acknowledge and respect the culture.
Cooking represents the ideas that I agree with and feel related to: that it is genderless and inclusive. When I want to cook, I do not need to be somebody to do it. Cooking gives you freedom. For Rene Redzepi and Lennox Hastie, grilled veggies are BBQ. For Japanese people, thin slices of beef are BBQ. It is democratic. In Japan I eat sourdough for breakfast because it’s available to me. In the 1970’s my late grandpa created endhog brambang kobis because those are the ingredients he could afford and access.
Cooking makes you aware of your surrounding communities. Cooking makes you aware that capitalism fucks the environment and the animals (including humans). Cooking makes you aware that hunger is more about distribution instead of quantity.
Cooking feels personal, it connects us to our heritage and to our ancestors. There is something about fire and heat, there is something about the smell of soil, it feels that they are part of us, part of our past.
Let’s talk about it later. It is now summer in Susenji, Fukuoka. What can be a better seasonal dinner than a plate of nasi uduk with a side of fried tempe and tofu, kemangi leaves, and sambal made from scratch, and accompanied by a bottle of Corona beer, served in a pre-cooled Duralex glass with ice and a lemon slice?

The Basket of Apples by Paul Cezanne
Apple Mania by Ruth Reichl
Cezanne turned me into a food writer.
But it was not for any of the reasons you might imagine.
In the late sixties, when I was a graduate student in art history, my professors were constantly dropping the names of restaurants near great monuments of art.  I wrote them all down: the trattoria five minutes from Giotto’s murals in Assisi (“get the ribollita”), the bistro around the corner from Notre Dame that served fantastic choucroute, and the five-hundred-year-old tofu specialist near Kyoto’s Kinkaku-ji. And it was while studying Klimt that I first heard of Demel, Vienna’s venerable emporium of pastry.
The art historians I studied with also enjoyed deconstructing the many meals depicted in art. Together we devoured endless last suppers, along with the painted feasts of Bruegel, Vermeer and Veronese. They discussed artists like Orozco and de Heem, who used food as both allegory and a means of illuminating ordinary life.  And when one professor announced that his next lecture would be devoted to the food of Cezanne, I could hardly wait.
We walked into the room to find a slide of Cezanne’s Apples on the giant screen above our heads. “Cezanne,” the professor began, “once told a friend that fruits ‘love having their portraits done’.”  We all stared up at the painting as he continued. “Cezanne also said that he wanted to ‘astonish Paris with an apple’.”
I concentrated on that image, waiting to be astonished.  But hard as I tried, those apples left me cold. Cezanne’s apples, I soon discovered, were not apples; they were painted strokes on a canvas, and he did not want you to forget it.  That was the point.
I understood what the artist was up to.  That painting was about art, not apples.  It was about the impossibility of ever making two dimensions truly resemble three. It is an interesting intellectual idea, and in the context of art history, an important one. But the more I stared at that painting, the more I began to wonder if I wanted to spend the rest of my life thinking about such things.
I left that class in a state of confusion. It was a beautiful fall afternoon, and as I walked back to my apartment, I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something wrong with me.  Shouldn’t a person who planned to be an art historian appreciate Cezanne’s apples? Passing a local grocery store I noticed a fine display of Ida Reds, Arkansas Blacks and Esopus Spitzenburgs.  They were beautiful; astonishing, in fact. But I had no desire to contemplate those apples; all I wanted to do was eat them.  I bought as many as I could carry, determined to transform them into something delicious.
At home I peeled the apples, listening to the seductive way they came whispering out of their skins.  I sliced them and showered them with lemon juice, leaning into the citric scent. Constructing a crumble, I concentrated on the way the butter became one with the flour.  And then, surrounded by the heady aroma of sugar, butter and fruit swirling through my kitchen, I opened my notebooks and began to read.
The evidence was all there: I was looking at art but focusing on food. I was clearly not meant to be an art historian. Much as I enjoyed studying art, my true passions lay elsewhere.  By the time the apples emerged from the oven, my life had changed.
I still don’t like Cezanne as much as I think I should. But I am very grateful to him. Had I not encountered his apples on an autumn afternoon in Ann Arbor, I would probably be teaching art history today.
I’d be happy enough, and yet…  deep down I would be aware that my life had gone wrong.

Common fillings embrace purple bean (dousha bao/豆沙包), taro (yutou bao/芋頭包), pork (zhurou bao/豬肉包), and vegetables (cai bao/菜包). It’s astonishing how much scallion taste these noodles tackle from the infused scallion oil. Still, we encourage you to take it one step further with a garnish of crunchy fried scallion slices. For sturdy, crispy spring rolls, search for wheat flour wrappers that may be found within the freezer aisle, then fill them with a combination of ground hen and pork, mushrooms, carrots, and bean thread noodles. “If I could read your mind, love, what a tale your thoughts could tell.”
I was inspired by this post by @gum-believable to write this fic. I tagged all the people that asked to be tagged under that post, I hope you don’t mind and I hope you like this! :)
[1.9k words]
Sam had learned early on that many hunts rarely go as one would hope, unfortunately. He used to wait anxiously for his father and brother to come home, sitting on an uncomfortable bed in a random motel, nearly thirty years before, scared that things could go bad.
As time went by, he understood firsthand that not everything always goes as planned. Murphy’s law teaches us that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Even on a trivial hunt like that.
A case to solve, a witch to stop before it was too late, people to save. Nothing they hadn’t faced before, nothing they weren’t able to overcome with their skills and experience. It was such a mundane hunt that even a pair of young hunters like Claire and Kaia could have handled it well, or so Sam and Dean believed.
Alas, hunting is unpredictable. Who would have thought that the witch had a twin sister? Who would have imagined that the aforementioned sister was so poorly endowed with magical powers that the spell cast against Dean would have side effects even after her death?
Still, that was exactly what happened.
When a purple cloud enveloped Dean’s head, dulling his senses and making him lose his balance, Sam shot the young woman in the head and she fell to the ground with a thud.
Dean, still a bit pale, got up trembling. Despite everything, he seemed to be fine. No trace of purple smoke, no strange dust, no visible wounds. They were both fine.
Sam let out a relieved sigh. That was a close one, he thought.
“Amen to that, little brother,” Dean said with a smirk.
Sam looked at him confused. “I didn’t say anything.”
Dean frowned. “What do you mean, you just talked!”
“Dean, I didn’t speak.”
Dean thought about it for a moment, then shrugged carelessly. “I must have imagined it. I still feel a little dizzy from the spell.”
Sam nodded. “Can you drive?”
“Of course I can, who do you think I am? You won't put your filthy hands on Baby,” Dean exclaimed offended, and quickly went down the stairs of the apartment.
Sam looked around cautiously one last time before following his brother to the car.
As they traveled through the city towards the highway, Sam stared out of the window thoughtfully, while Dean cheerfully drummed his fingers on the steering wheel.
That Starbucks is new, Sam thought casually, noticing a new sign of the popular coffee shop.
“Wow Samantha, you know these towns really well, don’t you?" Dean commented wryly.
Sam turned to him frowning. “What?”
“I said you know-”
“I heard what you said,” Sam interrupted him. “But why did you say that?”
Dean gave him a confused look before focusing back on the road. “Uh, no offense Sam, but honestly, who cares about Starbucks.”
Sam was starting to fret. “How do you know I was thinking about Starbucks?”
“You okay Sam?” Dean asked concerned. “Did those sons of bitches do anything to you?”
“I didn't say anything, Dean,” Sam said for the second time that day. “I just thought about it.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I didn't speak. And I didn't do it before, either! I didn't say anything about Starbucks, Dean. Not out loud at least.”
“So what, I can read minds now?”
Sam sighed. “I don't know, maybe.”
Dean smiled in amusement. “Awesome.”
“Dean, there must be something else. Something bad. It must be that spell's fault. I'm gonna call Cas.”
But Dean had stopped listening to him. He was smiling to himself, proud of his new supernatural power. After all, how dangerous could it be?
When they got to the bunker, Castiel was already there. Sam hadn't explained anything to him on the phone, except that Dean had been hit by an unknown spell and they needed the angel's help.
As soon as they entered the room, Castiel ran to meet them, worried.
“Sam, Dean. What happened?”
“Dean thinks he has superpowers,” Sam said without many pleasantries, as Dean greeted Castiel with a pat on the shoulder.
“I told you Sam, I'm like Professor X,” Dean said with a grin.
Castiel sighed, rolling his eyes.
Why did I have to fall in love with this idiot?
Dean nearly tripped over his own feet. Castiel grabbed his arm, steadying him, but Dean immediately drew back, as if his touch had burned him.
“What?!” he nearly shouted, looking at him with wide eyes.
Castiel looked at him confused and preoccupied. “Dean, I didn't say anything,” he said calmly, as if he were explaining a complex concept to a child.
“Cas, the thing is-” Sam tried to explain, but Dean shut him up.
“It's- it's not important. Do you know what matters now? Dinner. I still have to cook, so, Cas, you're coming with me to the kitchen,” he said quickly. His ears were burning and he knew he was blushing.
“Dean-”
“No tofu-eating man allowed in my kitchen, capiche?” he interrupted his brother again, pointing his finger at him.
Then, without saying anything else, he grabbed Castiel by the wrist and they disappeared together down the corridor, leaving Sam astonished in front of the bunker entrance.
In the kitchen, Dean let go of Castiel's wrist, clearing his throat embarrassed. Castiel continued to look at him curiously.
I miss the feeling of his fingers on my skin. I love it when he touches me like that.
Dean choked on his saliva and started coughing under Castiel's concerned gaze.
“Dean, what happened, do I have to heal you?” he asked apprehensive.
Dean shook his head no, catching his breath. “No man, I'm fine. It's just... dinner, alright? We have to hurry up,” he said hastily, turning his back to the angel to avoid him noticing his obvious blush.
“Dean, Sam said a witch cast a spell on you...”
“Sam hit his head and has no idea what he's saying,” Dean lied.
Castiel frowned. “Is he okay? Maybe I should check if he needs my assistance,” he said, already heading down the hall.
“Cas, no!” Dean exclaimed.
Castiel winced, looking at him in shock.
Dean bit the inside of his cheek. “He's fine, I've already checked on him. He just needs to rest,” he said looking around, unable to fix his gaze on Castiel. “For now, I need you to stay here with me, okay?” he continued, grabbing a pan to cook some burgers.
Castiel tilted his head to the side, narrowing his eyes in confusion. “Why?”
“Because-” Dean sighed, “I want you here.”
Castiel's gaze softened.
I love being with you Dean. Spending time with you. Talking to you, or even being silent. I always want to be around you.
Dean felt himself blush again. “Good,” he murmured.
Castiel sat down at the table, knowing he couldn't be of much help, and he simply watched Dean cook. There was silence between them, but it wasn’t unpleasant. The only sounds were those that Dean made moving around the kitchen, slicing tomatoes, washing salad, preparing dinner.
How can I be so lucky?
Dean turned to Castiel, winking in his direction.
You're amazing. And it's incredible that I get to sit here, with you, watching you. Admiring you as one would admire a work of art or a natural phenomenon. Seeing you here, in such a normal and domestic environment, fills my heart with joy. I want to see you like this forever.
“So, Cas,” Dean said perhaps a little too loud, trying to distract himself from those words that were ringing in his head, hitting him right in the chest, unleashing lightning and storms inside his brain. “What's on your mind?”
Castiel eyed him enigmatically. “It's nice to see you cooking happily,” he said simply, looking around the kitchen.
“Uh, yeah, that's good, I guess,” Dean replied, scratching his head in embarrassment.
“What are you thinking about, instead, Dean?”
Dean looked into his eyes, which stared back at him with an expression so fond that he felt his heart ache.
I love you, he thought, and for the first time it didn't scare him. He didn't feel horrified, he hadn't been ashamed of his feelings for a long time. But he wasn't afraid either, not anymore.
I love you, he thought again. Cas, I love you. Cas cas cas cas-
“Dean.”
Castiel's cheeks were tinged with red, his lips were slightly parted, his pupils dilated. Dean's first thought was that he wanted to see him like that every day.
“Dean, why are you praying to me?” Castiel asked in a whisper.
“I'm not,” Dean said quietly, dumbfounded, letting his eyes wander over Castiel's features, his flustered face.
“Yes, you- you have-”
“I love you,” he blurted out.
Castiel closed his eyes, letting out a shaky breath.
Dean clung to the kitchen counter, already regretting having said it out loud. What if he wasn't actually hearing Cas' thoughts? What if he was just hallucinating?
“Say something Cas.”
Castiel shook his head slowly.
I don't deserve your love. You deserve better. You deserve someone who can give you a family, someone who can get old with you, someone who has never betrayed or hurt you, I don't-
“Cas. I- I can hear your thoughts. The witch's spell, I think... I don't even know man, I don't know what happened, but I can hear what you think as if you were talking,” Dean whispered guiltily.
Castiel jerked his head up. His eyes were full of tears.
“Dean, why haven't you told me-”
“I didn't want to. I'm sorry, okay, but you were saying all those nice things about me, things I don't deserve, and I didn't expect it. I just wanted... I don't know, man," Dean sighed, running a hand over his face. “But I love you,” he continued, moving closer to Castiel. “You’re family, Cas. You, Sam, Jack... I want to grow old with you, until I die of liver cirrhosis or some other bullshit. I don't want anyone else. It's you, Cas. You're the one for me.”
He had crouched down in front of Castiel, who was still sitting at the table. Tears ran down the angel's cheeks, which Dean promptly collected with his thumbs, gently caressing his face. Castiel huffed out a laugh, clinging to Dean's arms, clutching the fabric of his shirt.
He stood up, Dean right after him. And in an instant, their lips met and started moving together, in tune, as their hands explored the other's neck, jaw, hair, eagerly and sweetly at the same time.
They parted, out of breath, and Castiel rested his forehead against Dean's, losing himself in his green eyes.
“Should we thank her?” he asked with a smile, breathing in Dean’s scent.
“Who?” Dean said, stroking his hair absentmindedly.
“The witch.”
“Oh,” Dean chuckled. “Sam killed her.”
“Of course he did,” Castiel laughed.
“Yeah,” Dean muttered, and pulled him close to kiss him again.
Castiel smiled against his lips, and in that moment Dean was certain. He wanted this with him more than anything.
Smiling back, he wished Castiel would never stop grinning like that.
And if Castiel thought the same, Dean was too engrossed in the kiss to hear it.

Say My Name and I’ll Be There:  7.3
"You shall serve under Childe," the Tsaritsa gestured for you to rise to your feet.  "Mezzetin."
"Uh...bless you?"
"Thus is your new name:  Mezzetin," the archon repeated, raising a brow at your attitude.
"That's not my name."
"Am I hearing you break the contract you proposed to me only a few minutes ago?"  You bit your tongue to refrain from ripping her a new one.  "Childe, why don't you show her to her new room?"
"It would be my pleasure."
Childe led you down an especially long corridor that brought you to what looked like a type of barracks situation.  He opened a door that stood on the left side of the hall and showed you around.  It wasn't that bad of a room; it held a balcony that looked over the snowy landscape outside.  The walls were a deep burgundy color with dim lighting, which only seemed to further mock your dark circumstances .
"How do you like your room, Mezzetin?"
"If I hear that god-awful name again, I--"  That's odd.  Why is there a mask on my bed?  You picked it up and noted it was the same color as the walls.  It might have been slightly similar to Xiao's mask, in that it looked relatively animal-like.  It was harbinger-status, being that it held no similarities with that of the Fatui agent or skirmisher masks and was completely unique.
"Ah, that caught your attention?  It's yours."
Why was there already a spare mask? I barely made the decision to join them not even ten minutes ago.  Do they have a surplus of masks here?  Your gaze rose to Childe's in a questionable manner.
"What?"  Childe let out an awkward laugh.
"Nothing."
"Well, I should get back to the throne room and let you adjust here for a bit, no?  I'll return soon."  His suspicious hurry to leave made you roll your eyes, but your attention just returned to the mask in your hands.
Why did they already have a mask for me?
...............................
"Well done, Childe."  The Tsaritsa praised her devoted weapon of war as he knelt before her.  "When you proposed your idea to me I wasn't sure you'd be up for such a task, especially since you hate deception.  Everything played out exactly as you expected.  You have earned my praise."
"Thank you, Your Majesty."  Childe rose to his feet and revealed a dark grin.
Signora slowly clapped her hands as she approached the teen.  "To think that our youngest and most inexperienced would come up with a plan to manipulate the girl into joining us by manipulating Morax into waging war--you have matured greatly, Childe."
"Your praise is appreciated, Fair Lady."
"Just do your job correctly and make sure she doesn't get any bright ideas to turn on us," Scaramouche walked out of the throne room.
"Not one to praise another, as expected," Childe sneered.
"The sixth harbinger is correct, Childe.  While your plan has succeeded, your duty does not end here.  Such is why the girl will be in your hands; do not fail me."
................................
"...What do we do now?" Aether's voice pierced the snow that fell upon the trio as they headed for the Snezhnayan border.  The walk had been excruciatingly long and quiet, the atmosphere holding a somber note and sour aftertaste in everyone's mouths.
"...I suppose we continue to look for you sister," Zhongli suggested.  "That is what you originally gathered us for, is it not?"  The archon kept his gaze on the snowy ground.
"It is..." Aether's gaze shifted to Xiao, who was quieter than he usually was.  "What do you think, Xiao?"
"I'm returning to Liyue and continuing my duty."
"So that's it?"  The boy stopped in his tracks.  "We're just going to give up on her? Is that it?  I'm not going to just sit around while she's still stuck in that dreadful place.  Don't you two cherish her like I do?  Don't you, Xiao?"  His hands curled into tight fists as he thought about Lumine.  He couldn't comprehend the idea of giving up either of you.
The two adepti halted, and the yaksha met Aether's eyes.
"Don't think we haven't noticed how the two of you look at each other," Paimon popped up and put her hands on her hips.  "You two like each other more than teammates!  We're not stupid! So why are you just walking away?"
"She chose her path," Xiao stated.  "It's not like I can dissuade her from her decision; she clearly felt strongly about it."
"If she does not wish to be saved, there is nothing we can do," added Zhongli.
"Well she clearly thought you guys were going to get a bunch of innocent people killed over her!"  Paimon huffed.  "Of course she wouldn't want to be saved if it meant all that death would be her fault!"
"Paimon..." Aether's gaze wavered at his emergency food.
"And you!" The mascot switched to Xiao.  "She clearly loves you, but you have no idea what that means even though it's bright as day that you feel the same for her!  Why didn't you tell her?!"
"I can't make much of human em--"
"No! Here's what's going to happen.  You're going to go back there, confess your lovey-dovey feelings and get her out of there!"
Xiao disappeared before their eyes, obviously agitated by Paimon's annoying rant.  "Great," Aether pulled at his hair.  "Now look at what you did, Paimon."
"He needs to hear the truth at some point!" She huffed.
..................................
"Xiao?"  Aether and Paimon investigated the Wangshu Inn as soon as they got back to Liyue a week or so later.  "Are you up here?"
"What do you want?"  The adeptus appeared next to them in a similar manner to when they first met.  He was just as unwelcoming as he was back then.
"We made some almond tofu!"  Paimon made a giddy gesture to Aether, and the boy held the dish out to Xiao.
"We thought you would like some," he gave a faint grin.  The yaksha didn't return it, instead returning his gaze to the moonlit scenery past the railing.
"I'll pass."
"Oh..." This is really bad.  Aether sent a worried glance to Paimon.  "Are you sure?  You love almond tofu."
"Mortal food is not to my liking," the yaksha grit his teeth in agitation.  "You should leave.  There's no reason for the two of you to be here."
"Don't be so rude to us!  We came to talk about her!"  Paimon flew forward so that she blocked Xiao's view of the scenery.  "We know how much you care about her.  Isn't there a way to contact her somehow?  You know, with your psychic abilities or something?"
"This conversation is pointless.  If there's nothing else, see yourselves out."
"Xiao."  Aether's shoulders dropped as he tried to figure out the correct words.  He failed to come up with something, and looked to Paimon.  "...Let's go."
Xiao didn't bother to glance their way as they made their exit, instead focusing on the scenery below him.  He hadn't heard from you since you saw him off.  'I love you,' she said.  Why does remembering it hurt so much?  He shivered as he remembered the look in your eyes.  They were so gentle, kind, yet broken.  Like you had just...given up on life.  Just what had Childe done to you to make you say those things?  His thoughts were fortunately interrupted when he felt a shift of energy carried through the wind.  He looked to the Guili Plains up ahead, and dispersed.
The yaksha came upon several lawachurls, which were relatively uncommon to the area compared to other places in Liyue.  The evil that consumed them reeked of gods past. Xiao didn't hesitate to wave a hand over his face and manifest his yaksha mask, throwing himself into his life-long work of defeating the evil that plagues Liyue.  Only this time, he used it as an outlet for his frustrations rather than solely fighting to fulfill his duty.
"My fight goes on."  That's right, he watched the demonic smoke whirl around him.  My fight does not stop for her.  My duty is here.  He twirled his polearm and leapt through the air, slicing at the closest lawachurl.  Since he and the monsters were far from the nearest road, he let loose a little.  And by a little, I mean a lot.
The nearest trees splintered from the shockwave of his attacks, with the other lawachurls shaking off the bulky rock armor off their backs.  The ground rumbled beneath their feet.  Xiao plummeted to the earth and subsequently killed the first lawachurl with the blow.  Then he moved onto the next one, finding no fear in the monstrous bellow that greeted him face-to-face.  He shoved the lance through it's bottom jaw and jutted it through the skull with little effort.
The third charged just as he removed his polearm from the corpse of the second.  This time Xiao whipped around and thrust his weapon into the monster's knee, yanking it out to then deal several blows across its chest and decapitate it.  "Worthless," he growled as he watched the monsters disintegrate.  He continued his attacks on the remaining four until he stood alone among the ruins.  He watched as the spirits of the damned returned to their rightful places in the earth.
Xiao thought nothing of the disturbed soils and began to walk towards the inn once more until the demonic voices called out to him.  Some were quiet, no more than a whisper, while others were obnoxiously loud and demanded attention.  They moaned and whined, each having a unique pitch of anger tinging their curses and cries for help.  Xiao fell to his knees, with his body leaning on his polearm as it was overwhelmed with the hatred of the damned. He forced himself to take a deep breath. Not this again.
...............................
Your time in Snezhnaya wasn't fun so far, and you often secluded yourself in your room whenever you had the chance to avoid the Tsaritsa or her little puppets.  Childe checked on you often, doing so in a way that showed his concern for your obvious depression as you longingly stared out into the winter wonderland from your window.
You were being pestered by Childe yet again when you became overwhelmingly dizzy and nauseous.  "Urk--"  You doubled over and grabbed onto the curtain to steady yourself.
"Hey, are you alright?"  Childe put a concerned hand on your shoulder.
"What is...this...?"  Your fit of nausea transformed into an overwhelming hatred for nothing in particular.  You fell to all fours, heaving from a level of anger never experienced before.  "What is this!"
"...Comrade?" His words were drowned out by the desperate screams that entered your mind.  Your hands hurried to cover your ears in an attempt to make the voices stop, but they didn't disappear.
"They're so loud!"  You cried out, now in physical pain that was equivalent to being set on fire and shredded with knives.  "Stop!  Shut up!"
Childe quickly dropped to your level and lifted your chin up to examine your glowing eyes and the tears drenching your cheeks.  "What's wrong?"  He mouthed, but you still couldn't hear him.
"It hurts!"  You coughed, one hand covering your mouth only to be retracted and painted with your blood.  I'm bleeding?  Panic set in and the pain only worsened, the voices getting louder and louder while Childe desperately tried to get you to answer him.  "This hate!  Why do I feel so hateful?  Make it stop!"  You were screaming hysterically now, squeezing your eyes shut and clawing at your ears until they too began to bleed.  "Make it stop!"  Your senses were easily overwhelmed, and all you could focus on was the pain and the volume of the voices surrounding you.  "Please!" You couldn't seem to catch a decent breath of air like something heavy was sitting on you.
"Hey now!"  The harbinger watched the blood spill from the lips.  This is...  He pulled you close to him and held you tightly, ordering for medical aid when an agent burst through the door from hearing the ruckus.  "It's okay, it's okay--"
All you could do was continue to heave deep breaths to quell the rage that resided within you, to quell the demonic voices that demanded you to succumb to them.  Childe didn't let up his grip around you and pressed your head tightly against his chest.  Rage.  Hatred.  Agony.  The feelings tore through you like you were made of paper.  It was hard to explain, but the emotions felt otherworldly; nonhuman.  Your blood continued to seep from your mouth and soak into Childe's clothes while he continued to rock you back and forth.  Your screams were a mixture of cries for help and manic giggling as you lost all sense of rationality.
.......................................
"Hey girlie," the familiar harbinger was hovering above your face when you finally reopened your eyes.  You were apparently still in your room, this time lying in bed with a damp cloth draped across your forehead and the moonlight illuminating the two of you.  "How're you feeling?"
"Mn."  You blinked sluggishly and tried to move around.
"Ah, I wouldn't do that.  You were bleeding internally, you know," he let out a strangled laugh as you returned to your original position.  "You really had us worried for a sec."
"Yeah right." The growl that emitted from your throat seemed to put Childe off guard, another flash of concern waving over his demeanor.  It was clear residual hatred still resided in you even though that was your usual response to his remarks.  Your eyes were still glowing.
"You feel his pain now?"  He raised a brow.  "Is that how this bond works?"
"What of it?" A dry giggle escaped your chapped lips as the hushed voices continued to plague you.
Interesting...This could pose a possible problem for the soldiers...I should inform Dottore immediately.  Childe removed himself from the bed and headed for the door.  "I'll check on you in a few hours.  Try and get some rest."
A slight draft brushed across the tip of your nose the second he closed the door, and you looked to the window to find a shadowy figure obscuring the moonlight that entered the room. It slowly approached the bed until it stood at your side.  The closer it got, the louder the voices became.  You winced when it leaned over you.
"You..."  Xiao's face occupied most of your vision.  He didn't need to know what happened to understand it was linked to his dealings with the possessed lawachurls a few hours ago.  "I felt your distress."
"What're you doing here?" You snapped quietly, the voices still raging a storm within your words.  It's not like you've communicated with him at all ever since you confessed your feelings.  He had no reason to be here...right?
"Do not fall prey to the darkness," he warned.  "I cannot save you if you allow yourself to be overrun."  He hesitantly placed a hand against your forehead in an attempt to gage your wellbeing.  He didn't have the powers of Zhongli, so there was no point in trying, but he did it anyway.  Your glowing eyes seemed to capture his, and the two of you stared at one another for a few moments.
Another laugh left your lips, and it was nothing short of disturbing unlike the airy carefree ones Xiao had heard you release before.  It was evil.  Mocking.  "I never called you here."
The yaksha let out something between a growl and a sigh.  "I have no choice but to kill you if you're consumed.  Do not let them overwhelm you," he repeated as he locked on your eyes.  While his words were sharp, the look in his eyes was nothing but endearing.  "I can always hear them, but you don't have to.  It's just a side effect; this too, shall pass."
"...It hurts."  Those two pained whimpers broke through the wall of hatred that surrounded you from within.  The glowing lights in your eyes flickered as you regained yourself in his presence.
"I understand," he assured while his hand left your forehead to accompany your cheek, his thumb rubbing against your skin to wipe the tear that had fallen from your right eye.  He winced when he realized blood was mixed in with it, but didn't let on that he was taking a closer look at your eye.  Mortal bodies cannot withstand this...He bit the inside of his cheek as he thought of the worst-case scenario that had consumed his fellow yakshas long ago.  If we get them out of her now, she should still be able to fully recover.
He continued to stroke your cheek while you stared up at him, still unable to fully move your tired limbs that felt like they were severed at the ligaments.  Eventually you gathered enough strength to move your arm and place your hand over the one that cupped the side of your face.  You weren't sure of how much time had passed, but painful tears fell occasionally and were coupled with Xiao's brief looks of concern.
"I'm here," he soothed.  Archons, the way he handled you was so delicate.  Had he ever been this gentle with you, even when he caught you in your lowest moments?  If he had, the voices made it difficult to retrieve the memory.  They continued to scream and swirl within the depths of your mind, but the presence of the yaksha subdued them somewhat.
"I-I didn't...want to leave you..."  Your bloodied tears stained his hand and your pillow.  Xiao shifted on the bed upon hearing this and feeling your tears brim the corners of his eyes.  He continued to stroke your cheek.
"Do not speak; you're making your condition worse," he ordered.  "I can't hold your decision against you."
"But--"
"'What matters now isn't failures of the past; we are here together.'  Are those not your words?"  His head tilted slightly, and a fond smile formed across his lips.  "Rest.  I will be here until morning."
"Don't...leave..." You begged, gripping his hand a little tighter.  "Please."
Xiao watched the glow in your eyes eventually flicker out right before you fell asleep.  He took it upon himself to wipe the bloody streaks from your cheeks, and even let you continue to hold his hand while you slept.  He stayed true to his word and sat beside you until the first light of dawn shone through your window, his hand never fully leaving your skin until he had to return to Liyue.

Blackout - Part 5
Info I Part 1 I Part 2 I Part 3 I Part 4
Author's note: Only now realized that tumblr doesn't recognize my lovingly placed paragraph breaks =_= So I'll put some "." in.
So he made her a lemon cake.
"What do you want in the kitchen?" She asked with a crumpled expression.
"Wait for it."
She softly swayed with uneasiness in the door frame while he opened the cabinet doors and drawers.
"I'm not into blood games... and I have razor blades in the bathroom..."
"Listen – nothing's going to happen tonight, okay? But I'm not going to leave. So lie down, it'll be a surprise."
He only found canned soups, tofu, and soykaf*. But baking mix and lemons were flown in easily enough by drone. You could bake it without any fruit – they sure were expensive – but with a bit of lemon zest the cake wasn't just good, but fantastic.
As he sat in the kitchen, beating the dough smooth with a way-too-small whisk, doubts started to settle in. Here he was, skipping the night shift and baking a cake for a stranger just because she was sad. But the moment passed. He saw himself sitting in the kitchen as a child, on his worst days. When his father was at work – or asleep – or he didn't want to tell him what was churning inside him so he wouldn't worry... there wasn't much else he could do than cook or bake. Creating something with his hands pulled him out of the swamp of worries in his head back into the dry here and now. And no matter how bad things were, they weren't as bad anymore when you were eating something warm and good. If she couldn't appreciate that, then fuck her. That’s what he told himself, at least.
.
But her face lit up like a summer morning. Wrapped in a cocoon of blankets, she sat up when he entered the living room.
"Aw, what? For me?” she warbled.
Simply grinning in silence, he cut out two slices. The cake had already been worth it.
"Careful, still hot."
Now, it wasn't a masterpiece, but he was satisfied. Fluffy, sweet and lemony, ticking off all of the boxes. The girl sure liked it, otherwise she wouldn't be humming with enjoyment like that.
“I think that's the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me.” There was a crack in her voice. Her eyes were even more glazed over than before. "Except for my grandma, maybe."
"That doesn't sound right." That bar would be too damn low.
"Mh, no, really. I mean, I did get cakes for my birthdays. But you gotta get one, in a way, you know? But just like that? That's a first.” She wiped the corner of her eye with the back of her hand. "Thank you, that's really sweet of you."
That was more of a response than expected.
"No problem."
"Where did you learn to bake like that?"
"I have a soy allergy." ...which wasn't wrong. But also not the crux of the matter.
Sighing blissfully, she laid her head on the armrest of the sofa. She kept glancing at him as she chewed.
"I don't even know your name yet."
"Hanne."
"Lovely name. I'm Amanda. Hanne, may I ask you something? "
"You're already at it."
"Heh... so, what do you think is better: Having bad friends or no friends at all?”
"No friends."
She nodded slowly and closed her eyes, her lashes still damp.
"And what if you can't be by yourself?"
"Then you gotta learn it."
"I'm trying to..." she mumbled, "but every once in a while it’s bursting out of me, you know? Like with those squids, when you pour soy sauce over them. Have you ever seen that? They're long dead, but then they reach for you with their long, pale tentacles...“ He had no idea what the hell she was talking about. And he wasn't sure he wanted to know. She yawned. As she reconnected their eye contact, she looked no longer feverish but lucid. "Are you alone often, Hanne?"
There was something in the air. Something... colder. As if someone had cracked open a window somewhere. The question felt too personal – but then again, he remembered, nothing mattered tonight. So he shrugged and admitted:
"Yes."
"Does it feel bad or do you not feel it?"
"I can be on my own."
"The alternative is worse?"
He thought of his classmates. The dates. His ex. He didn't answer. She nodded as if it was answer enough.
"Yes, for me too. I used to be part of a coven, you know?"
His muscles tensed up on their own. Hanne did not like magic. You couldn't pack magic by the throat – and by the time you found the bastard that spat it out, a lot had usually already gone to shit.
"Don't worry, um... 'I am a lover, not a fighter', as they say. And even if I weren't, I'm a lousy Wicce. They soon noticed that too. Even though that was why I joined Wicca in the first place. ‘cause peace is so highly valued there. I hate violence. When I found out that they even let mundanes into the circle, I thought: Great, so it's not important how powerful you are!"
The wrinkles between her brows deepened.
“But the longer I was there, the more I understood that... oh, how do I put it? You know... at the meetings there is this girl and she is friendly and excited and then at some point you notice that she only greets you when she needs something from you and one day she spends hours – and I mean really, half the day – telling you about this witch rival she's strangely obsessed with, you try to change the subject and she chides you and tells you that you are full of shit and nobody says anything when she knocks you down?"
"No."
"Oh, or you're talking to a guy who does look smart and interesting, but somehow in a sneaky, arrogant way and you're not sure if you're even interested in him that way and his wife also looks very nice, but kind of cold – and then he says the relationship is open and so do the others, but then after you've slept with him, she snubs you and he becomes weirdly possessive?"
"No."
"Okay, but... there's your friend, or at least you think you're friends because you're sisters of the covenant and when the important people talk to each other, you always end up on the sidelines together, so you've at least got that in common and then one evening she cries and tells you that the high priestess and high priest want her as their lover and that she should be happy, but that she can't be and you tell her that she doesn't have to do anything she doesn't want to do and she says... no, I do?"
He swallowed dryly.
"No."
Her lips pressed together into a thin line.
“I… was so torn. I thought: They don't argue, they don't fight each other, they even tolerate all other belief systems, they are also Wicca, these are my people... and one day – well, I...” Her gaze wandered into the distance. "... I don't have a real connection to my Mentor Spirit, maybe because I'm so weak, maybe it was just a dream, but... I took a nap one afternoon and...
.
And I saw a woman writhing on her altar, bound with wreaths of flowers. And the stalks strangled her and the blossoms sliced her flesh. And she said: I am peace. They sacrifice in my name and their devotion pains me. You shouldn't be here."
.
She blinked her misty-eyed gaze away, as if she hadn't noticed how she'd just spoken. “Anyway, I thought: 'Wow! Now that's a clear message!' So I left.”
Hanne nodded thoughtfully.
"Even if it was just a dream, your head was trying to tell you something.”
"Right? And why are you alone?"
.
After Amanda had poured out her heart like that, the question sat like a gun on her chest. Hanne shyly squeezed her fingers.
"People suck."
“Is that all?”, she probed further.
"Oh, now you catch on, but not when someone’s putting drugs in your drink." She sighed, the anger wasn't real. "No. The problem is, I can't be honest."
"Hm? About what?"
"Everything. Most things."
"Why?"
Hanne scratched her forehead.
“Because I'm a coward. Deep inside.” Under her questioning look she caved in. “Who I used to be is still inside me. What I am now, those are just layers that I piled on top. Deep down, I’m damn scared.” She laughed bitterly. "Pathetic, isn't it?"
Amanda slowly shook her head.
"No. I'm scared, too."
“But you have a reason to. You break easily."
"We're not talking about bodies, though, are we?"
No, they probably weren't. The little witch drew circles on the velour of her couch.
"It hurts, opening up, doesn't it? It hurts because you're lighting up the dark areas of your soul that you don't want to look at either. And because nobody can hurt you as much as someone whose heart is close to your own. And because they leave. One day, they always leave. But I think... I think I don't want this anymore. Keeping people at a distance, I mean. Bad things happen to me anyways. And I don't want to be afraid of loving anymore. Or the pain. Because if I don't give any chances, if nobody really knows me, no-one can really love me, you know?"
She understood.
They talked about many more things. About Amanda's grandmother, whose family refused to pay for her care. About Hanne's father, who she couldn't, didn't want to uproot. About Emir, who went to work one day and never came back. About Hanne's ex, the insensitive bitch. About Amanda's ex, the fucking stalker cop.
The numbers on the clock had long since returned to the single digits when she could practically see Amanda's thoughts moving as if swimming through concrete.
"I should go."
"Nooo!", groused Amanda. That she had lasted this long in the first place was, in her opinion, a medical miracle. "Mh… well, alright, you gotta go back to work?"
"Nah, I'm going home."
"Okaaay. Are you gonna take the rest of the cake?"
“No, it's a gift. I'll put it in the oven for you."
"Oh man. You're an angel! Wait a minute.” She rolled off the sofa onto the floor, giggled, got up and shimmied along the backrest towards a nearby cabinet.
"I'll write notes! Or sober Amanda is gonna get pissed at me."
"Ah, and what are you writing?”
“One that she should keep her hands off Tano... Tarnopol, that asshole. And the other -" she grinned broadly at her, her head rolled onto her left shoulder "... that we're besties now!”
Hanne sure laughed outwardly, but her chest tensed up.
"Good, good. I'll put them on the baking sheet so you won't miss it.”
“Goddess, and you're smart too!” She held her head and let her hands fall away in a mock explosion – “Pchoo.” – before she quickly grabbed for the cabinet again. “Today was great. We should do that again, soon. I'mgoingtobednow, wheee, I'm dizzy."
"Do that. Good night, Amanda."
Illuminated by the bathroom's lamps, Amanda beamed at her naively.
"Good night, Hanne."
.
Hanne brought the baking sheet into the kitchen and attached a yellow note to it. The other he put into his jacket with a guilty conscience. He turned off the light before he left.

Chapter 1: Aizawa and Yamada
Finally graduation day arrived. Aizawa held his UA high school diploma in his hands. This was a joyous occasion – or at least it should be. He should feel proud, which he did to an extent. Aizawa could not help but find the entire event nostalgic before it was even over.
He was a little proud he managed to pull through and finished school, graduating from the most famous hero school in Japan no less, but he also felt a deeply routed guilt. Yamada was joking and laughing with friends. Everyone was loud and happy, yet someone was missing.
Yamada tore Aizawa from his thoughts as he excitedly called out to him. Aizawa put on a teasing smile, silencing him with a quirk and vanished. It was meant as a joke but it also was great to escape his classmates.
Aizawa rolled his eyes at the endless amounts of texts Yamada sent him. He could practically hear the disappointed yelling while reading about how he had missed all the group photos. He didn't even bother to listen to the voice messages or pick his phone up when it rang. Aizawa went home and relaxed on his bed, knowing his foster parents wouldn't get home until later.  He wondered what would happen if he left right this moment without another word to anyone. His suitcase was already packed.
A new message lit up his phone's home screen. Aizawa reached for the device, only now bothering to look at the chat.
Yamada:
We're all going out to eat tonight. Will you come?
Aizawa:
No. I promised them dinner.
It was true. He had promised his foster parents a ‘goodbye dinner’ before moving out. It was the reason why he didn't leave right this afternoon. They were decent people and were kind enough to give him space and not pressure him into spending more time together, so when they asked if he would have dinner with them tonight he couldn't say no.
Yamada:
But you're leaving tomorrow morning, right?! When will we see each other again??
That was a good point. It still hadn't quite sunken in that they would not be back at school again soon. They wouldn't just leave school for a weekend or a holiday, but forever. Aizawa almost regretted not staying longer at school now, though he also knew that it wasn't his thing. Seeing everyone excited for the future and sad they would part would have been a little too much. He was happier alone in his bedroom.
Yamada:
Can I come over?
 Aizawa:
What about dinner?
 Yamada:
We meet later. I'll come over.
Well. Now that that was decided all there was left to do was to wait for the energetic blonde. Wherever Yamada had been, he couldn't have been too far from his home. He was out of breath when, ten minutes later, he rang the doorbell non stop until the door was opened for him.
"Come on in." Aizawa said and they headed over to the brunet's room, where they sat down on the bed. At least Aizawa sat down. Yamada flopped onto the mattress still trying to catch his breath.
"You could have walked here." Aizawa noted.
"Yeah, but I didn't want to miss any more time! Who knows when we'll see each other again!" Yamada said.
"You're the one who wanted to work in America." Aizawa reminded him.
"I knoooow." Yamada whined, but then a grin returned to his face. "But I'm sure it's gonna be awesome!" he said determinedly.
"Just don't start talking to me in English all the time." Aizawa said and realized that he really would miss Yamada.
During their first year at U.A. he did not get particularly close with anyone but Shirakumo and  Yamada. In their second year Aizawa had allowed himself to befriend Kayama a little. The cat Aizawa and Shirakumo found and gave to her had helped a lot in terms of befriending the girl who was a grade ahead of them.
After Shirakumo's death Aizawa made sure it stayed that way and distanced himself from others. He couldn't bear the thought of getting close to someone again only to loose them later. He looked at Yamada who lay on his back next to him on the bed, staring at the ceiling. Aizawa didn't want to think about how he would react if anything happened to the blonde.
"What train will you take tomorrow morning?" Yamada suddenly asked.
"Why? Don't tell me you want to meet me at the station." Aizawas tone was flat and seemingly uninterested.
"Ehhhh? Why not?!"
"You'll be hung-over." Aizawa stated.
"What? You really think us aspiring pro heroes will succumb to underage drinking?!" Yamada called out in mock surprise as if they hadn't- together in fact- gotten drunk before. Then he turned more serious. "I'd still come if you told me what time the train left." Yamada claimed.
"At 8:00 in the morning? Are you sure?" Aizawa said, a small smirk ghosting on his lips.
"Damn. That's early. Why are you torturing yourself like that?" Yamada asked, knowing how much Aizawa hated getting up early himself. Though, to be fair Aizawa seemed unhappy about getting up at any time. Insomnia was a real pain in the ass.
"I'll still come." Yamada said.
Aizawa just gave a low hum.
"You don't believe me! You'll see. I'll be there!" Yamada bumped his fist into Aizawa's shoulder.
"I didn't say anything." Aizawa said, raising his hands, showing his palms.
"Anyways." Yamada huffed. "You'll have to send me pictures of your apartment when you get there, alright."
"It's shitty. Nothing worth showing off." Aizawa protested.
"I don't care. I just want to see pictures."
"I'll send you pictures of the cockroaches I'll room with." Aizawa teased.
"Please don't!" Yamada looked horrified.
"You get those or nothing." Aizawa shrugged. This was nice. It was easy banter, just the two of them, nothing too overwhelming.
They fell into a comfortable silence, Yamada's eyes landing on Aizawa's packed suitcase.
Yamada had been surprised when Aizawa told him he would leave Musutafu the day after their graduation. He himself would travel to the US soon after the school year ended, but his flight went a week after graduation, giving him enough time to say goodbye to classmates and family. Well, Aizawa could count the friends he had on two fingers and he also did not have much family. Yamada did not know Aizawa’s host family particularly well but the few times he met them they seemed nice. Yamada could not help but wonder if Aizawa left so soon because he felt uncomfortable around them or if it had to do with Aizawa's general attitude and mood ever since their work study ended in their second year.
Yamada had a great support system at home but it was difficult mourning their dead friend himself and helping Aizawa at the same time. Shirakumo's death hit them both hard, though Aizawa definitely had a less healthy way of coping and far less support or people who didn't offer the support he needed which ended in him changing host families a month after their work study. It had been painful to watch Aizawa train in the Gym to the point he was so exhausted he fell asleep in their classes. Yamada had done his best to be there and watch Aizawa as often as he could, sometimes even training with him. It made them grow closer over time.
"You've got to take care of yourself." Yamada broke the silence.
Aizawa frowned, then looked away from the blonde. "You too."
"Hey, you missed out on all the pictures we took, let's take some now!" Yamada changed the subject. They wouldn't see each other in quite a while so they shouldn't just mop around. Aizawa was not impressed by the idea, but when Yamada sat up on the bed and sat right next to him he tilted his head towards the blonde as he held up his phone. Within minutes Yamada's camera roll filled up with new pictures of them both.
"You should leave soon, if you don't want to be late." Aizawa said eventually as he took notice of the time.
"I guess." Yamada said and sat up on the bed. "I'll see you tomorrow morning, alright?" He reminded Aizawa.
"Don't trouble yourself. It will be fine if you don't." He said.
The door fell shut and Aizawa stood alone in the quiet house. Dinner with his foster parents also was a quiet affair. He appreciated that. They did not try to get him to talk more than usual or try to talk him out of things last minute. They asked if he finished packing and if he still needed something, as if anything was worth the trouble of going out this late at night. There were plenty of stores with the same products where he moved. He let them know he had everything he needed and stayed seated at the table after dinner. They drank tea and let it sink in that things would be different from now on.
The night seemed to drag on forever and Aizawa barely slept. He got up early, even earlier than he had to, so he could make breakfast for everyone. He made his host parents favorite tea, put six slices of bread in the toaster oven and got out a pot to make miso soup. He didn't have to cook but even he could make something as simple as miso soup with tofu and seaweed. He set out the jam for the bread and got out some plates when his host parents came out.
Aizawa checked his phone when he got his suitcase after breakfast. No new messages showed up. The blonde sent him a few photos during the night, so Aizawa knew his classmates drank alcohol and stayed up until the early morning hours. He tried to ignore the slight pang in his chest. It was good Yamada had fun last night. He should rest now. They could talk over the phone later, he told himself pocketing his phone. He looked around the room one final time. It was clean and he already pulled the sheets off and put them into the washing machine.
"Remember you can call us anytime." His host mother told him as they stood in the entrance. Aizawa gave a slight nod to signal he heard her as he tied his shoes.
"Don't hesitate to ask for help." Her husband added.
"Thank you. For everything." Aizawa said, looking them in the eyes. He even gave both a hug before he stepped outside and pulled his suitcase to the station.
When Aizawa arrived at the nearest tram station, he realized he gave Yamada the time his other train would leave from the bigger train station. So even if the blonde intended to come he might have thought of the wrong place. He checked his phone but no new notifications showed up. Aizawa pocketed his phone as the tram came to a stop. The small tram was packed with people going to work and Aizawa shuffled to the door, pulling his suitcase as close as possible. He gave an apologetic nod to an older lady close to him. Aizawa focused his eyes outside the window looking at the familiar houses and stores passing by.
Finally the tram reached the central station. He arrived with some time to spare and checked his phone while he stood waiting at the platform. He felt a little forgotten but tried his best to push the feeling aside. He told Yamada not to worry about coming, so it wasn't fair to be mad at him for not showing up.
He could hear his train enter the station and then, even louder than the arriving train his name. "Aizawaaaaaaa!" He knew that voice.
Aizawa turned around to the direction the call had come from and saw Yamada running into the station. Several people held their ears and stared at the blond in irritation. He would have to get to this platform, but the train just arrived so there was enough time. Aizawa couldn't help but smile.
When Yamada finally came running down the stairs he looked like he would throw up any second. "The things I do for you." he huffed out of breath when he came to a stop in front of Aizawa.
"I told you, you didn't have to come." Aizawa said, but his smile gave him away.
"Please just tell me you are happy to see me so that it was worth coming." Yamada begged. He wore a t-shirt with an unidentifiable stain on it and one of his shoelaces was open. He was very pale and his unstyled hair hung in his face.
"Yeah. I'm happy." Aizawa gave in. "Thank's for coming." He said just as Yamada stepped away from him and threw up over the other side of the platform where no train was.
"Are you alright?" Aizawa asked, holding the other's hair back. Other people were stared more or less subtly.
"Ugh..." Yamada groaned. Aizawa glanced at the clock, "Wait here. I'll be right back." He said and jogged to a vending machine to get some water.
"Thank's." Yamada said after he washed his mouth out and took a sip. "Sorry about that." He said, rubbing the back of his head.
"Do you need money for a taxi back?" Aizawa asked.
"No, no! It's fine. Keep your money! I still have some." Yamada said. He pulled his walled out in demonstration. He knew Aizawa did not have much saved up and he doubted he suddenly accepted more from his host family.
"If you're sure." Aizawa said.
"Actually, let me pay you back for this." Yamada held up the bottle Aizawa just got him.
"It's just water." Aizawa shook his head.
"Alright. Thanks." Yamada put his wallet away again. They stood in silence for a moment after that.
"Well...-" Yamada tried to break the silence.
"I have to get on the train soon." Aizawa said at the same time.
"Ah...right. Well...I'll hear from you soon right? Send pictures!"
"Of roaches. Sure." Aizawa couldn't help but tease with a smirk.
"I got up and came all the way here and this is how you thank me?!" Yamada said so loud he winced himself. He hadn't even spoken that loud but with his head already pounding every decibel felt like too much.
"We'll see." Aizawa said and reached for his suitcase. Should he give Yamada a hug? His arms twitched, though he kept them at his side. "Get some rest." he said, taking a step back.
"You too!" Yamada nodded, wincing once more at his own volume.
"Thank's for coming." Aizawa said, standing in the train's doorway. "Bye."
"Bye." Yamada said a little quieter now, but with a smile on his face while he waved. The blonde was always so positive and energetic. It was nice. Aizawa waved as the door closed, then moved to look for his seat.
It was a window seat and he waved once more once he sat down. Yamada waved with two arms as the train began to move.
This was it.
Aizawa's chest felt tight as the train drove out of Musutafu. So many memories were connected to the city. Good, as well as bad. He gulped down the lump that formed in his throat and pressed his shirt's sleeve against his eyes. A new chapter of his life started with his move to Naruhata. There was no turning back now.
