#but i just. every time i see someone say ''Macaque and Wukong are DEFINITELY brothers''

i’m never ever going to make a post like this again, but if i see ONE MORE POST about this im going to actually break down sobbing so.
Sun Wukong and the Six Eared Macaque are NEVER canonly stated to be brothers.
Yes, they are the origin of the “evil twin” plot point. Yes, the may be inspired by an older legend of “two monkey god brothers”.
But not once, does the text of Journey to the West say they are canonically brothers.
I did not spend an entire week researching these two (and done it multiple more times whenever it was brought into question), just for people to go around saying “They were canonically blood brothers in Journey to the West, and Lego Monkie Kid will make them brothers later on :)”.
(Of course, if you headcanon them as being brothers, or prefer to see them that way, that’s fine. I have no problems with that. It’s your interpretation after all. It’s people saying it’s definitely canon that I take issue with.)
First and fore most, Wukong literally can’t have siblings. Sure, he can have siblings by choice, like the other pilgrims, but he was born from a rock, y’all. I think we would’ve heard if the rock had done anything else.
Secondly: The text of Journey to the West does NOT say they are brothers. I don’t know why we have to go through this so many times. In fact; in Journey to the West, it says they didn’t even know each other. The Six Eared Macaque, as well as Sun Wukong, are declared as the same species (a mystic monkey, that doesn’t match up with any other kind of being, of which there are only four in this world), not as family. Six Eared Macaque was only able to disguise himself as Sun Wukong, and copy his abilities, because of his ability to hear the past present and future- he listened to all the training Wukong did, and thus replicated it. And even with the ability to hear so much, outside of no-one being able to tell the two monkeys apart, he doesn’t actually do that good of a job at pretending to be Wukong (hitting Tripitaka on the head for example). The two of them had never met before this in Journey to the West canon.
(I’m mainly keeping this post about Journey to the West, but it’s obvious Lego Monkie Kid has changed many backstories. However; if the show was going to go with the route of them being brothers, I’m extremely certain it would’ve been stated by now. For one, the creators do interact with the fans, and have encouraged Macaque/Wukong content. Secondly, “beloved friend” would most certainly have been changed to “dear brother”. He would’ve described the hero and the warrior as brothers in that story, because there literally would not have been a better time to drop that information story wise. If they were going to be confirmed as siblings, it would’ve been done by now, I assure you. Of course, this doesn’t mean I think Macaque/Wukong will be canon either. If anything, it’ll just stick to them being friends, which makes perfect sense in a story that focuses on friends and found family like this. You can headcanon them as brothers if you want, but do not go running around claiming it as canon- and telling newcomers who are questioning and genuinely don’t know that it’s canon.)
Thirdly: “but what about the movies where they’re brothers” you say. “but what about Dislyte, where they’re brothers” you say. Now look at me. If you were heterosexual, and you saw a story like the Six Eared Macaque being obsessed with Sun Wukong’s life, what would you take away from that??? Almost definitely, the first answer in your mind would be siblings. Not to mention the other popular idea of him literally being part of Sun Wukong (this is also not canon. Sure, allegorically he might represent Wukong’s internal battle with his violent tendencies, but literally almost every character in Journey to the West is an allegory. The whole damn book is an allegory. But we’re not looking at the allegory here, we’re looking at the story), these are both common directions that would be taken. But just because it makes for good story potential, to give a deeper meaning behind these two characters by making them siblings or part of one whole, does not make it canon. You can’t look at one interpretation of a story and say it was canon to another. Would you take Gnomeo and Juliet and say “well since they survived at the end, it must be canon they survived in the original play, and anyone who says otherwise is wrong”? No. No you wouldn’t. Because that’s an assumption, that’s a twist on a story to give a new meaning to it. But even if it’s fun, it’s not part of the original.
So, to put a cap on this post, sure, go ahead, think of the Six Eared Macaque and Sun Wukong as brothers if you want. I literally couldn’t care less. That’s your own interpretation of it. Block the shadowpeach tag if it makes you uncomfortable, that’s what tag blocking is for.
But do not. Do Not go into people’s askboxes and tell them the Six Eared Macaque and Sun Wukong are canonically related. Do not go into the askboxes of people who ship shadowpeach and send them death threats for their own interpretation of a shows interpretation of two guys who didn’t even know each other in the original text. Do Not tell people who ask that the two of them are canonically related, because then you’re just spreading misinformation.
Once again, if you view them as family, and don’t do any of the above, you’re fine, this post is not about you. Have fun with your ideas and stories /gen
This is the only post I’m ever going to make on this subject. If you try to argue with me you will be blocked. You can reblog, but for the sake of my anxiety I’d rather not have any replies or comments on this.
Please, y’all. If I can have enough respect to stay in my own bubble, and not force shadowpeach on people who don’t want it, and can keep myself from claiming that it’s going to be canon, then why can’t the people who have decided to interpret them as brothers do the same?
#Monkie Kid#JTTW#Journey to the West#tagging the big names here because i want this to reach#gonna be honest. im terrified to be posting this. but i GLANCED in the main tag today and saw something and just.#i cant. ive had this rant building in me since august of last year. i cant keep silent about it anymore#i'd rather not post this at all. might even delete it. i dont like interacting with drama#i HATE fandom drama#i know the reason why there seems to be so much of it here is because the LMK fandom is new#and still growing#and that things will probably settle down in a bit#but i just. every time i see someone say ''Macaque and Wukong are DEFINITELY brothers''#instead of ''i view them as brothers''#i just get SO FUCKING ANXIOUS#i remember the initial drama#(which. by the way was started by one person. one. Just One. One person was all it took for nobody to check sources)#i remember my friends getting hate messages and death threats#and i remember everyone taking a break from shadowpeach for a bit#and. tbh. it's never felt the same. there's not as much content of it anymore.#it almost feels like everyone panicked and scrambled for new ships to replace the ''oh so awful shadowpeach''#and even after things settled down. the damage had been done.#too many people too scared to come back into creating the content they had enjoyed creating before#just ONE PERSONS POST was enough to ruin the comfort and fun of so many people#and i will never forgive nor recover from that.#.....#vent#this is very much a vent post#i think im going to go offline for the next hour or two#to give this post a bit to settle down after i post it.#i might delete it after i come back online. who knows.

Bro I have to say this I swear-
I see people trying everything to make it seem like Wukong is a lot worse then he is. I understand you like Macaque, I do too! But the entire point of their relationship is that they’re both in the wrong. The difference is, Wukong got, well, character development. It just feels super annoying to discredit Wukongs hard work in JTTW because of things he did prior.
I’m not saying Wukong is some saint, or an amazing person even while the story is taking place, but he is NOT as bad as some of the people in the LMK fandom make him out to be. I assume it’s because Macaque is the goth shy boy (/hj? /lh), but Macaque literally comes out just to manipulate MK and steal his powers. He’s making the exact same mistakes Wukong did, fighting for power so that he can protect himself. Get stronger. Etc.
Season 4 Special Spoilers:
I don’t think Wukong was ignorant in saying that Macaque doesn’t come to help him. I mean, he got beaten by the Jade Emperor and presumably everyone just left him there and ran off. I’d be pretty mad too. Of course, Macaque was hesitant to begin with, and that’s fair. But he was already there, he could’ve tried. But Macaque has a habit of shying away from fights, only really fighting others to settle a score (S1 E9) or if he has to (LBD arc - both working for and against her, but the S1 E9 relates here, too.) I’m not saying this as an insult, more of an observation. He’s not a coward by any means, a coward would be Peng, who leaves mid-battle in fear of being hurt or losing. Macaque finishes his fights (still knowing when it’s reasonable to retreat), but more often then not prefers to prevent them in the first place. (WHICH IS WHY THE DIVORCE SCENE HITS SO HARD, you know he’s been bottling that up ;v;)
ANYWAY back on topic. I definitely think everything Wukong said there was true. I don’t think he was trying to lie or manipulate Macaque by saying “everything I did was for us”. This is further confirmed when we see him later, tired and completely defeated.
Tumblr media
He has nothing to hide here. He’s at his lowest point, stuck in a mountain, tensions high from being abandoned by his sworn brothers, being abandoned by people he held dear. Macaque was trying to be nice, but if I were stuck in a mountain and offered food from someone who left me in such a vulnerable state? I probably wouldn’t take the it either. ALSO. We still have NOT seen these things from Wukongs perspective! Every single time something is revealed from his past, it’s narrated by Tang, Azure, Macaque, etc. Wukong has never (from my memory) spoken about his trials first-hand. This is why I love the guy so much!! What’s going on in his head? How does he feel about these things?
These are such complex characters who have been through so much, so it really bothers me when people look at Sun Wukong and decide to demonise him because of the past which, not only has he moved on from, but we have never even seen his side of the story on. Why did he kill Macaque? Did he kill Macaque? (I’ve seen theories he didn’t, we don’t know rn tho)
Tumblr media
Wukong went through a lot of pain to change. Wukong is haunted by his past and in genuine distress over it. You can’t tell me this isn’t a man filled with deep remorse for his actions.
He’s not perfect, but he’s a hell of a lot better. It just really frustrates me that people disregard and discredit the work he put in to get to this point.
THATS IT THATS THE POST
This is really disorganised I’m sorry, I just keep seeing people act like Wukong is the scum of the earth and I honestly just do not get it.
Please don’t send asks about this post, just reblog or comment.
I don’t want to deal with passive aggressive (or just straight up aggressive) people.
As a final note: No, Wukong is not perfect. He’s still a deeply flawed character even with his development. No, Macaque isn’t the scum of the earth. They both have their own problems and they both fucked up. They both did something wrong. That’s the point.

Peng x Mortal! Reader Headcanons
Tumblr media
They/Them pronouns for Peng and reader.
Fluff! But Peng is also a lil toxic lol. I love this bird and I need more content for them so I'll probably be fixated on them for a bit.
Catching the romantic interest of this bird is basically a death wish. They don't even realize they like you at first because "romance isn't something they'd waste their time with."
Trying to have a regular conversation with Peng almost always leads to them becoming distracted by you in some way. Whether it be your smile or the way you hang onto their every word, it drives them crazy.
Of course, this is taken out on you via taunting, putting you down, pretty much convincing you you're meaningless because they can't distinguish butterflies from annoyance.
They'll vent to Yellowtusk about it because he's the only one they feel will listen to them without giving them a headache.
"I get so annoyed when they're around, yet I don’t want them leaving my sight... Like they'll run off and die if I'm not babysitting them. I don't get it..."
"It sounds like you enjoy someone's presence for once, brother."
"...Maybe you're not as wise as I thought."
Yellowtusk doesn't take offense because he knows Peng will be back to "complain" about you again. It both worries and amuses him.
If by some miracle you see through their prickly exterior and show interest in them, Peng will only get worse before they get better. However, they'll be more egotistical, (If that's possible) boasting instead of putting you down- as much.
Peng will flaunt to the point they're performing for you as they train, always making you attend the training sessions and claiming it was so you'll learn a thing or two. Wukong definitely helps with this, only because he wants an excuse to scrap with Peng, but he also heavily ships you two on the down low.
If you confess first, Peng will be shocked into silence for the first time in their life. You expect them to yell at you, say something like "I know," or even hit you.
You don't expect Peng to swiftly turn around and fly off without a word.
Sending you through a brick wall would have been less painful because they proceeded to ghost you for the next few days as they assessed their feelings for you.
They return days later after avoiding you. The closest thing to an apology you get is Peng gifting you your favorite snack.
"I have thought it over, and I've decided to humor," They gesture between the two of you, clearly out of their element. "... This."
Peng confessing first under normal circumstances is unlikely. Wukong would probably have to step in and start getting too close to you for Peng's liking. They don't even know why they care until your attention is consumed by the Monkey King.
Peng has to come to terms with the fact that not only do they want your attention, but they want you. Peng realizes just how easily you could slip from their grasp if you reject them or get swooned by another.
What do they do? Well, if demanding you be their spouse doesn't work, they'll try human courting methods like gifts or dates. Of course, they see that as a waste of time as well and contemplate just kidnapping you(which Yellowtusk advises against).
When you two officially get together, Peng hides the relationship from Azure, Macaque, and Wukong. Any public display of affection is strictly prohibited. Not because they were afraid of you being taken away, no, but because they felt weak for falling for a mortal.
This causes issues between you two, but it was to be expected. Peng isn't too affectionate in private either, at least not in a regular sense.
When Peng sees how much this hurts you, they do make an effort to show signs of love. Maybe they'll give you a backhanded compliment or run their talons over your scalp gently.
The longer you two are together, the more they open up to the idea of showing you they care for you instead of assuming you know. Eventually, they declare your relationship to the rest of the group(proudly).
Wukong is ECSTATIC - to Peng's dismay. Yellowtusk, Azure, and DBK are happy for you two. Macaque keeps his opinion to himself, even if it was obvious he was concerned for your well-being. It was Peng, after all.
Things do get better after that. You two have your disagreements, but Peng gets better at listening to you.
Most birds stick with their mate for life, that's not much different for Peng. Even if they aren't affectionate in the ways you crave sometimes, they protect you with their life.
Only they can belittle you and get away with it.
When they're tired, they'll fluff up next to you and take a power nap. No, you're not allowed to leave. You'll hear low chattering from their beak as they bask in your warmth. Mention it, and you'll be sent into the stratosphere.(And they'll whine while denying they do it.)
Will fly you places and pretend you're being a burden. In reality, they enjoy seeing you so easily impressed by their wings. Peng definitely shows off their wings every chance they get after that, whether it's to shield you from the weather or pull you closer.
Will eventually let you kiss their beak. The reaction is priceless as their feathers fluff up, and their pupils dilate ever so slightly.
Peng definitely purrs if you manage to get them that comfortable.
Doesn't directly say I love you. They don't want to admit someone made them soft enough to express it verbally. That, and they're not entirely sure how to be genuine sometimes. They learn a lot from you. If you give them words of affirmation, they'll return them—if not a little aggressively.
They'll rub against you affectionately to cover you in their scent and then carry you around.
You'll never go hungry with Peng as a partner. They bring you food before you realize you're hungry and somehow know what you're craving.
Still belittles you, but it's somehow in an endearing way.
No one can make them feel bad about being with you now. They present you at their side as their amazing partner. Anyone who has anything to say can meet an early death.
