oh alice!!!!!! yes, i have thoughts about her, which i think are quite unconventional, as i have a highly specific (and maybe convoluted) imagining of what exactly she has gotten up to in her life.. i think this is going to take some explaining.

ultimately i have had alice serve as a developed, largely tragic reason 4 alistair to be involved with wonderland the way he is. i remember watching spring unsprung all those Years ago and asking myself: why is alistair the same age as the other wonderlandians? shouldn't he b an entire generation younger than them to fit the story? why is he still there, anyway, now being very obviously not a little child?? and we've seen every other wonderlandian parent, so yes, where on earth IS alice???

so, i started there, and worked backwards!

most of this is clarified (or at least said slightly better) in my work 'alistair's fall', but i didn't think alice would end up remaining in wonderland and i never thought of her living in ever after, mostly because i couldnt think of another reason she would not be seen nor mentioned in the show at all! i always considered her an inhabitant of the 'mortal world' [working title], which is different 2 both ever after and wonderland in that it is.. our world i suppose? but fictionalised. normal human dimension, regardless..

this always made the most sense to me, as the separation of the fantastical and the regular is such a fundamental aspect of the original alice story, and if alice hailed from ever after, a place where dragons wandered around and wolves could speak, i dont think it would end up meaning quite the same thing... theme-wise.

so, she is from common old london, and it is there that she returned after her story! unfortunately things get more depressing from here.

alice is quite a sad character in my headcanons.. she loved wonderland very much as her accidental visit provided a refuge from her exceedingly troubled home life, and actually didn't want to leave at all. when it happened anyway (wonderland's stories work more like patterns in nature. a child comes, a child goes. its just what seems to happen) she refused to let her experience go, maintaining that wonderland was not a dream, like most alices decide, but instead a real place that she could return to one day. her life continued as a series of misfortunes, and she grew obsessive, detatched, and quite ill. most of her worldly thoughts and efforts were directed towards getting back to the rabbit-hole and returning to wonderland where she would be safe and happy again. she was never successful.

in her early twenties she ended up alone, still ill, with a child, who she named alistair. giving him a version of her name felt like ensuring his luck that he, too, would get to go to wonderland someday (and she was right).

to make ends meet, she took several odd jobs for several unsavoury people, and ended up on the bad side of someone who believed in extreme measures. she ran from them, with alistair, to the now-derelict house she grew up in, and when inevitably she was found she knew what she had to do.

alice sent alistair out quickly and secretly from the house, and down to the stream where she knew the rabbit-hole must be (if not for her, then surely for him. wonderland is kind like that; if a child is in need, it will open itself to them). alistair found the rabbit-hole. alice stayed behind and met her consequence.

of course, this is a pretty gratuitously miserable thing to put her through, but i was about 17 when i thought of all this and my taste has remained edgy enough to think it effective!!! to this day i have no idea if she ought to be alive in the mortal world, or dead.. maybe one day, if i write a sequel to alistair's fall, i will actually have to make this decision!.... but not yet

It’s so funny when y’all talk abt comics bc it’s so obvious you have never read them. Jason would def lose to cass, but he has beaten her before and they are far more closely matched than you’re making it out to be. Your first point, that I've clearly never read comic books. While I may have been more into fanon when I first joined the fandom, I've never not read comics. Reading death in the family is what got me interested in the universe and led to me reading more and more and posting about DC. I do not claim anything I posted before like. Last January. I would like to cite the amount of posts I've made directly about comics I've read, often with panels. Ive spent well over $500 on comic books over the past year and a half and they're basically all I read nowadays. While most of my personal collection of physical books is post reboot because thats what's typically in store, I do mostly read post crisis books through online resources like readcomicsonline. li, notably including the entirety of no mans land (cass's debut) and her entire solo, batgirl 2000 (i own five issues of this), and utrh (i have the collected edition iirc?), jason's debut as red hood.

I see where you're coming from saying Jason is a planner, he sure did make a plan. That was an extremely convoluted plan that I will remind you: did not work. jasons plan to get bruce to kill the joker failed, quite famously. Jason's plans are insane because Jason as Red Hood was meant to be another insane rogue when he was first reintroduced. And typically, an extremely extra plan isn't going to help you if your opponent can figure out your next move before you can during the actual fight. I am discussing a hand to hand fight by the way, likely close quarters. If he did his whole putting a car bomb under the batmobile thing with her motorcycle, he probably would win. if he had the guts to detonate it, that is (which he didnt do with the batmobile bomb). In an actual fight? he loses.

If you can send me another ask with specific issue numbers of jason beating Cass, I may be inclined to take back what I said. However, in regard to a situation exactly like this, there is a quote from Cass's creator Kelly Pucket.

The post you're referring to was one I made about a friend of mines poll about who would win in a fight between the batfam, it was mostly meant to be an in joke between me and my mutuals, and it definitely is stretching the comics canon. I do agree, I did exaggerate the difference between their fighting levels. Jason is an incredible fighter, but I do not believe he would be able to beat Cass in a fair fight. Even if he had a gun, she has on panel survived and walked off a point blank shot to the head in an issue of batgirl 2000 (i dont remember which issue exactly, but I do remember it was one with tim drake in it. most likely around halfway through).

If it was in reboot or current canon that Jason beat Cass, I'd like to remind you that Harley Quinn has also beat Cass, and she is definitely nowhere near the skill level needed to do so. Any comics you cite, however, I will read through and reconsider my answers with these in mind.

I'm not trying to say I'm a comic expert, I know I'm not. I've only been reading comics for about a year and a half now, and I definitely haven't read everything. But I do believe I've read enough Batman to say this much.

Yes, I would recommend the book. Shadows of God by Alan Mikhail. I think i pick thus book after halfway watching Rise of Empire : Ottoman in Netflix. Why you should read this book? Please allow me to share my thought

1. I am not someone from History study or Labguage study. Therefore, I want to read history book that are easy to understand and not overcomplicated. You know,most often I put down the book because I couldnt follow the story or underatand what is going on. And i am not native English speaker, and it just hard for me to read certain book. Or maybe the author tried to hard to impress reader with bombastic word that after googling the word, i am still dont see how it make sense.

But this book? Damn, i feel like a girly pop reading a diary. It doenst just blandly narrated a story but I found this book interesting because it also give us the insight of the character. If i look back, it follows Selim journey from his childhood to how he claimed the throne. I can understand what is going on in the book and not to get lost myself.

Ngl, since the historical figure mention in the book is Selim, i am now rooting for him to claimed the throne and praying for his mother wellbeing. And oh! I love Selim mother the most in the book. The author touched a lot of aspect being an ottoman prince mother and his mother contribution during Selim ruling as a gavernor in Trapzor. They are very close to each other and i found it really sweet.

2. It does not exclusively follow Seim jourbey. The author also gives us hindsight on what is happening aroubd Europe at the time. I have read history book before and they exclusively narrate the historical figure and it made me confuse when there is foreign figure appear around the main historical figure. But this book? It tell us what was happening around,guve an idea where actually this event set place and how it correlate to other event in history. It became so fun to read when I can recognize othe histrical figure. For example the borgia. I know the borgia family because of a manhwa (korean type of comic).

It so fun to read and trigger my roller coaster emotionally.

3. I found it more interesting when I learn that Selim as said in the book is not highly favoured by his father. Especially when he is sent far away from Constantinople (or istanbul atm) assigned as governor. They said that the more far away the son is sent to givern a state,the lesser the chance the son get to be a Sultan.

It really made me think, did Beron apply the same thing? Except his intention to worsen the sibling relationship? Because i think I remember in one of your fic you had this scene where eris mentioning how lucky for Elain that Lucien is exiled. Otherwise, Beron would pit her and his other daughter in law. Which to me was genius since Beron wanted his son to fight each other for the throne.

Even in the book, it mention that the father/current Sultan is not excluded from this fraticide practice. The son still can and have the right to claw their own father from the throne

I recommend this book. Why? Simple, because someone slow like me can read it and enjoy the drama in this book. I think you would too. Sorry for the rambling tho.

You're back! This is the exact kind of recommendation I'm looking for, ESPECIALLY from a non-fiction book. When I was in grad school, one of my professors discussed what made good, academic writing ESPECIALLY if you were writing for lay people. And the hallmark of it was accessibility. Even within niche topics, your writing shouldn't be so convoluted that you need to re-read sentences over and over.

You can get away with some of it in academic journals but I'd argue if I'm reading a paper on a topic I'm knowledgable and published in, and I'm asking myself "what the fuck are you trying to say?" you've done a bad job.

And books ESPECIALLY because history is, in my opinion, one of the most fascinating subjects AND should be one of the most accessible ones as well. History is like gossip, it's half rumor, half fact depending on who is telling it. It's like when your friend texts, "can I say something fucked up?" like HELL YES tell me the atrocities and salacious gossip, I beg you.

I had a world history teacher in high school who once said history was the greatest soap opera and he made it accessible in a way that I've always been obsessed. And I'm saying all this because you said it was dumbed down enough for you to understand- but consider that it was WELL written enough to keep your attention rather than being so smugly satisfied with itself that the author renders the subject matter boring.

You sound exceptionally smart to me. You're reading in two languages! Give yourself WAY more credit and remember that a LOT of academics are just puffed up blow-hards that could use a regular person telling them, actually- you're not that interesting.

quite literally why the hell did they do that. like why did they do that. it felt so unnecessary. like, erasing his existence from the world. i dont know whether it actually altered the timeline, and he genuinely did not do those things, or if everyones memory of the events including his own were removed and replaced with a different story. but either way, it felt like such… a copout to close his story. the most unsatisfying way to tie loose ends.

him learning about what actually happened to niwa… that WAS ENOUGH!!! like it was enough emotional manipulation from dottore to understand why scaramouche went back and killed everyone. ??? like , it felt so unnecessary to do all that.

BUT LIKE ??? oh my god. i know that it shows how scaramouche was fine with quite literally killing himself to correct his mistakes, and i understand that the quest is ultimately exploring how even if he tried to change the timeline, the events in tatarasuna could not be undone or avoided. but also… it just felt like such a freaking random, convoluted way to express that. i think it also… doesnt work to do that? because if anything, it’s like. “oh, it was going to happen anyway. even without my hand in it, it was going to happen. “ and almost CAN absolve guilt because it didnt matter what scara did or didnt do in that moment. like the evil thing he did… just didnt matter. which is awful, imo, bc the point of a mistake is that if you had not made it, things would have been different. like wtf??? like??? like, he couldve just as easily got amnesia or something after the fall. we couldve relived his experiences through him slowly remembering his past. and we couldve extended kindness to him after learning about his past. like idk the whole erase myself from existence thing had me stressed. it reminded me of that horror game soma… where people copied their consciousnesses into computers and things and it was pretty clear that where that consciousness began was a completely new person, even if it was an extension of a past person.

i knowww my friend was obsessed with ao haru ride but i thought it was BORING. and i know we were in that era of having quirky heroines but all of them were quirky with no substance. i just never got into it. and as for dengeki daisy i dont think i liked the art lmaooo and i am very particular about my shoujo art. but i do like the mangaka's new manga queen's quality a lot!!!! definitely a jump in quality from dd. i did rlly like soredemo sekai wa utsukushii but it wasn't really for the romance. like yes the ML was a child but im pretty sure they were only like 3-4 years apart? both children tbh. but i think i liked the plot more than other shoujos at the time and nike was actually interesting. i DID like maid-sama....ik it's problematic but my nostalgia lenses are ON.

okay im glad shiv ended up breaking the cycle (for roman and kendall) but it's heartbreaking how she got mom'd. like.....i know she made tom into the man she wanted him to be so that's technically a W but she's been relegated into being a wife. she's pregnant!!! standing behind a man!!!! but let's be real like shiv was never going to get it lmao and it KILLS me because if she had been a man it would've been her. like 100%. shiv overcompensates and talks too much and it's all stems from her never being taken seriously as a woman. like had she had the privilege of being a man in a male dominated world it would've been her!!!!!! she's logan's favorite. mattson wouldn't have wanted to fuck her (who knows). all three of the roy siblings self sabotage in different ways, but the fact that shiv's comes from her insecurities is so heartbreaking. also i watched the ending commentary and one of the directors (i think) talked about how in the end none of them would ultimately be logan's successor because they'd never be able handle it. it was never going to be them. succession is a tragedy because when something happy and lighthearted happens you know something awful is going to follow. AND GOD. the scene where they swim and everything's happy that's when I KNEW it was going to end terribly. the roy siblings all united. it never would've gone well. it was never going to end well.

and kendall KENDALL. the poison drips. yes shiv was right kendall would have never been able to handle but if u think about the fact that he's been groomed into this position to continue the cycle of abuse (by logan who told him at SEVEN he was going to take over) he has nothing now! there's literally nothing for him anymore. this is what his life had been culminating towards and to have it all taken away. the part in the episode where shiv refuses to vote and kendall is literally like 'i might die' and then him denying point blank that he killed a man (DELUSIONAL). but also kendall recanting that confession a confession that bonded the siblings together in the last season. brought them together in a moment of genuine comfort and bonding. gone. gone. gone!!!!!

rome never wanted it in the first place but he just couldn't say it. he didn't want to be CEO he wanted logan's approval but logan's gone. he doesn't have logan's approval. the next best thing is being CEO but roman can't bring himself to admit it's anything other than poison for himself and the family. like.......the director's commentary talking about how this has just been one long thing that happened to roman and now that it's over he's back to where he was s1.......ughhhhhh. and him ordering gerri's drink????

basically c!sam and c!philza were friends way back in the day, which is already really confusing and weird and unnecessary and ultimately kind of stupid, and sam showed phil that he made a way to create multiple bodies (yep the alternate bodies lore is the focus here) n that it could maybe be used to cheat death and phil was like “nope. fuck that. death is awesome and I’m not you’re friend anymore” and flew away and then they were never friends again. which like. what was the point ?

then there was a way-too-long recap of the egg lore finale which contained lots of stuff that was completely unnecessary for understanding the events of this stream (honestly this isn’t even crit on the content of the lore itself, it’s just like … we didn’t need it!)

and THEN this is where it gets REALLY BAD. boomer is at his house and then he gets visions of the egg and some frog statues and a castle and he’s so so so scared or something that he runs away and he runs for literal years and years and years and then he reaches the castle from his visions and he goes thru a cave under the tunnel and finds a secret laboratory where sam’s body is floating in a tube and he breaks it and sam is like “ahhh boomer ?? what happened???” and sam slowly starts remembering everything and it turns out that he’s been in that tube for years ever since ponk killed him in the egg finale which means this is a fucking timeskip to YEARS in the future and apparently there’s been a fucking eggpocalypse that we literally don’t get to see or learn anything about and maybe everyone is dead but we don’t fucking know !! absolutely fucking ABYSMAL way to reveal that an eggpocalypse happened it pisses me off sooo much. we had just reached the climax of the crimson storyline. something that has been gradually built up for nearly TWO YEARS NOW. the egg LITERALLY JUST HATCHED. and now we’re skipping SEVERAL YEARS INTO THE FUTURE ?? thru POVs of characters who are now COMPLETELY DETACHED FROM THE EGGPOCALYPSE ITSELF ??? and THAT’S HOW THEY WANNA REVEAL THAT AN EGGPOCALYPSE HAPPENED ????? LIKE ?? HELLOOO ??? THIS SUCKS. IT WASTES ALL OF THAT WONDERFUL CLIMACTIC BUILDUP THAT THE EGG HAD GOING ON. and as if it couldn’t get any worse, CC!boomer apparently said that this is actually an alternate timeline and up to interpretation or whatever. which initially sounds like it makes it a lot better because oh well it’s just an alternate timeline it’s not necessarily canon to other storylines but then you realize that these motherfuckers just introduced ALTERNATE GOD DAMN TIMELINES into the ALREADY RIDICULOUSLY COMPLICATED STORY that is the DSMP. like what the actual fuck is WRONG with you ?? also, since the eggpocalypse happening is apparently an “alternate timeline” thing, then it probably won’t happen in the actual canon timeline or whatever the fuck. it’s just completely garbage

LAST NIGHT IN SOHO (2021) - a movie that sits as bad with me as ‘promising young woman’

i really do not understand what they wanted to do with this movie, and the fact that I was so excited and hyped for this film as it continued on, to have my face completely drop as the last half an hour pulled through. that is shit, that is pathetic and pointless filmmaking.

(i felt this film very personally)

some positives were the cinematography, the music, colour works and a few on the actors doing an ok job within the film. the beginning and first half had me relatively gripped, the faceless men were terrifying and the obvious target towards of the nastiness of london street life in the 60s was interesting, compelling and made the viewer want that justice, want to find out what happened to sandie. the negatives were the majority of the acting was awkward, forced, the love interest was the weirdest character i have ever seen, his speech, his actions, what?? the bullying which added nothing to the movie and felt so forced that it was ridiculous. the plot holes as the ending began pulling up.

i dont exactly know how to word it all, but the scene where the main character is reaching for the phone, and all of the terrifying men turn into these ‘helpless’ ‘scared looking men, was the worse scene in the entire film. although a few seconds later they tried to pull back and make sandie the victim again, i dont think they could undo what was done. why? why for a moment make these men look like helpless. yes. murder is not always right, especially if the prostitution of herself was ‘consensual’ (despite being forced by matt smith), but why try and make these men who knew exactly what she was, exactly her situation, look like these helpless men who were destroyed by this monster woman.

i cant exactly word this how i want, i just dont know why they suddenly made sandie this villain, this evil woman that the random cop guy (weird character btw, hate that obvious suspicious guy being fucking not who we thought, its such a pathetic TROPE BRO) told us she ‘wasn’t as it seemed’.

why? why couldn’t this be the story of a girl finding out the horrors of sandie trying to get into fame in the 60s, and the lack of justice and suffering that she had to go through. Using her fashion she could of talked about these issues, shed light on the death of sandie and it could of being such a powerful work of freaking art. why why why do they try and push it further. to make it worse. it just ruined everything for me and it really hurt my damn feelings. im getting tired now so cant add much more, just frustrating, especially with edgar wright, this film could of been so special! fuck you guys

midoriya acknowledging that kirishima should be the one to hold a hand out instead of him, knowing bakugo would hesitate, and bakugo knowing that as much as he has things to say at that moment, backing down and leaving it to someone else (I dont know. they bring out the best in each other with a sort of rivalry i guess, to keep moving forward, but they also arent really healthy and both have problems with possibly being seen as weak, and considering their history together wouldnt be the best person to save, or help. i think that it couldve made it worse if he were the one to grab his hand, with deku feeling kind of inferior. its not something he can help. but his friendship with iida has always been no strings, of support and understanding) anyway this is where i bring my other point from another post where kacchan- 'If I'm not the strongest, I'm a weak and useless deku' deku- 'If I can't save everyone, I'm a worthless deku' which are because of their problems that came from being in aldera where aldera made deku feel worthless, and in return made bakugo feel like if he wasnt the best then he was a deku, albeit indirectly

make sense?? so therefore, if some big bakudeku fan saw this, please do not scream at me, understand that they have their own issues that make it so they wouldnt really be the greatest for that

I remember when I was watching season 2 for the first time, I was really upset that we were getting this new main cast that we would only follow for 12 episodes because I thought I wouldnt be able to form an emotional attachment to them. And this was warranted because it took me a weirdly long time to get attached to like, Sebastian and Ciel (I was gonna say 'the main cast' but I didnt really care about anyone else at the time lmao) when I was watching the first season, it took like 13 episodes for me to get emotionally invested at all. I have no idea why because like, Black Butler is well written (and also I had literally no standards at the time so its not like the writing mattered) and I really liked Sebaciel as a ship it was the whole reason I started watching, but i didnt really care about any of the characters. So when I went into season 2 I was like "i cant care about this stupid fucken guy, hes gonna be dead by the time I start forming an emotional attachment whyyyy cant I just watch the guys I know for another 12 episodes :(" and yea. Guess what happened. yea I got attached to Alois and was perfectly fine with the idea of following only the Trancy household within ten minutes of the first episode

But that kinda made me think about what that version of season 2 would look like yknow. Like what if Ciel really did die and he and Sebastian werent there to bother Alois n gang

It seems like Alois has this title of 'the queens spider' but I dont think they ever really explain what that entails and also Alois never does jack shit. I know it has something to do with the underworld like Ciels job, but I get the impression that he did his job so well that Alois literally never had to do anything, he could just kinda chill out being rich and not worry. I think it would be neat if Alois got contacted by some messenger of the queen after Ciels death like "heyyyy. the 13 year old we usually send out to do our dangerous illegal shit just died and youre another 13 year old with a similar job, so go investigate this suspicious string of murders" and he kinda starts freaking out bc he was aware of the job, he just never had to really do anything

Idk I just think it could be neat to have Alois try the queens watchdog thing and be worse at it because hes inexperienced and also because Claude sucks and isnt a great help. For the emotional arc you could keep the conflict where Alois loves Claude and wants to be loved but Claude is just kinda apathetic and Hannah loves Alois but Alois is too focused on trying to gain Claudes affection. You could also maybe explore the mental and physical toll that being the replacement queens watchdog would take on Alois, because honestly, I dont think he has the mental stability required for that kinda job yknow. And since I love manipulative women, maybe Hannah could try to take advantage of his weakness in some way to try and get him away from Claude (she wouldnt be framed as like, evil for doing this because I refuse to write bullshit like that, but Alois would definitely be upset). I dont really know how this version of season 2 would end though. I mean, it would end with Alois being reuinted with Luka within Hannahs body like in the original I think, but idk what could possibly lead up to it because honestly, the original season 2 finale is already pretty convoluted ngl. eh who knows

heres my reaction to finishing beast (spoilers obviously) (this is turning out really long I'm just shoving all of my theories and analysis ideas in it without organization)

Why didnt dazai tell chuuya about the beast world secrets instead of atsushi and akutagawa!!! if only two people can know he could have told chuuya and they could have protected the world for oda together (I am actually crying over this)

they still could have made atsushi and akutagawa partners if it was that important chuuya deserved better

buttttt chuuya is such a small part of this universe and I understand the story asagiri decided to tell. I just wish dazai was a different kind of person and made different decisions. their relationship is strange but I dont doubt that dazai could have manipulated it to be something capable of that

why did dazai come up with this horrible convoluted long term plan of abusing and traumatizing atsushi and akutagawa ober years to get them together for one fight and tell them the truth. dazai is so bizzare and perplexing

he isnt canon dazai, he just saw canonzais memories and ran with it. he saw how much oda meant to dazai and decided to protect the world where he was alive and happy at the expense of everyone else, including himself. if only oda knew the sacrifices dazai made on his behalf.

Mori taking over the orphanage and being a good guy and stepping up as atsushis father?? dazai cared at least a little about atsushi clearly, he let him and kyoka go to the light before he killed himself and set up mori to care for him. he knew atsushi would be upset after his death and accounted for that in his plan. hes not completely heartless and distant like he seems

he saw canonzais memories and set out to find atsushi and akutagawa and fabricate something similar to canon but why did make the changes he did? no way he saw canon universe and decided to switch atsushi and akutagawas positions for fun. did he see how akutagawa turned out in canon and decide he'd be better off not being raised in the mafia? was it out of curiosity about atsushis character and how he'd be if he was trained in the mafia? was it a decision in the moment he met akutagawa and decided to go with atsushi instead?

atsushi isn't as wholly internally pure as canon and fanon imply. when hes put in the environment he excels as a high ranking mafia member, killing people with seemingly no regret. yet he still finds and deeply cares for kyoka, and obviously cares for dazai (clearly shown when hes killing himself). canon akutagawa is a very lonely character, but even put in his place atsushi finds people to care about. so maybe there is some deep intrinsic love and care about him, even if he was trained or manipulated or grew to excel in his position in the mafia.

I'm still hung up on how dazai saw canonzais memories and decided to sacrifice even people canonzai cared about for odas sake. because other people got to have happy universes and oda only had that one? so even if he hurt atsushi, who canon him cares about, its okay bc hes happy in other universes and oda needs to be happy in at least one?

I dont remember much about beast soukoku, there really isn't much about them, but I do truly wonder why dazai didnt tell chuuya about the book. atsushi and akutagawa wouldnt have needed to be hurt so bad and hed be able to stay alive and personally protect odas universe. even if hes empathetically challenged and doesnt care much about using and hurting others, why wouldnt he prefer to personally know about and protect the universe? why does he trust leaving it to atsushi and akutagawa?

i was going thru ur blog and u have good posts about ableist aus and i was wondering - what if in the aus the requirements for warriors were different? Like instead of having to fight jay only hunts? Would the muddling of roles still be ableist? In a Tree-like situation?If its not presented in a "work super hard to get what you want" and more in a "yeah they can decide what he wants to do". This is mostly for jay (and cinder) specifically because they had desires to be warriors yet were forced to be medicine cats because of ableism (ig this can apply to briar but i just truly cant remember oots that well and i havent read her death). I am asking because i am still trying to unlearn the ableist mindset that i grew up with. Feel free to ignore this ask and thnx!

hey yeah thank you for asking! took the opportunity to write up more general thoughts on rewrites as a whole and i went over why exactly theyre ableist hopefully that provides a better perspective

i think the major thing to keep in mind is that the structure of the clans is very abled centric and overly ignorant of inner community work (for example dens are only solidified or altered when either the area takes damage/the clans grows wrt population) theres a fixation on marking territory and starting fights and whatever with other clans which is whats expected of most warriors to partake in. to fix those implications in any fanwork youve really gotta knead into them and understand the nature of their ableism....its not just a problem with cats being barred from being warriors its the whole occupation and the standard its held to, so to speak (+ that fits into general clan society being flawed but eh thats another thing and also its easy to branch out into thought about)

going to stress other disabled people might have other solutions to how disabled cats are received this is just how i like to think of things

first i think its kind of interesting to examine discrepancies between disabled cats in canon as somewhat of an indicator of clan attitudes and leaders and whatnot. like i think you could get something interesting by regarding lets say deadfoot in windclan and cinderpelt in thunderclan who both have bad legs yet had different experiences with them in clan life. if you wanna go a step further comparing generations like lilywhisker and deadfoot or cinderpelt and jayfeather (+ the consideration of how congenital disabilities are regarded) can also make things interesting and just give you an idea of what to do. having the clan systems stray from a clear-cut common attitude both gives you more freedom for different approaches + adds to worldbuilding anyway. imo boiling down clan society to perfect utopia just gets boring but you can have imperfections in the system that depict the disabled experience just fine. just be careful with them and the way they come across yeah?

(real quick as an in between. god just dont refer to cats/their injuries as crippled. it still happens somehow)

im a little ambivalent on the idea of creating a ‘special role’ for disabled cats to be thrown into. cause then thats a repeat of canon medicine den really. its like ‘oh youre disabled youre instantly discarded into the x role pit’ i think just adding substantial in-universe changes to the warrior rank itself (vagueness is fun actually) or expanding on ‘warrior types’ rectifies the othering angle. ‘othering’ as a whole is just as bad as the ‘exception’ archetype people run for most warrior aus i want to state that clearly. effectively if youre gonna introduce roles that dont depend on fighting or hunting or both make sure theres abled cats who have them too. like say you want a camp-based role where a cats job is to fix dens or one where they help in the nursery, its far easier for a cat who cant run to manage those but also have some cats who are physically capable of doing other ‘tasks’ do the same thing for personal reasons

the tree comparison is interesting honestly cause i guess you could just give a cat a particular thing to do as a nonfixed position. and roles accordingly being made for a cat to fill until they cant and the positions done away with afterward. but youve gotta do it carefully so you dont fall into othering as ive said. id avoid something like that personally i just dont like the quality of ‘well theyre not a warrior (the most noble/useful concept in cat society) theyre actually some other thing’

in general giving disabled cats agency and choice is the best thing you can do. whether this means them deciding on tasks they can do themselves or picking a certain kind of warrior to be or asking for an assistant to help them out when they do stuff. the way you wanna pull it off again depends on my first question of “how does the relevant part of your warrior cat world treat disabled cats already”

very important point, the majority of the ableism also comes in the form of character narratives and not just the structure of the world itself. like think for a bit why the writers decided jayfeather shouldve been forced to be a medic or why briarlight got killed off early etc etc. characters ‘wanting’ to be like the abled ideal and still being bitter about not fulfilling that years down the line are just part of the ableist storylines. if youre abled id literally say just do away with those sadstuck ‘i wanted to be a warrior!’ moments. if you really want to id say pull a cinderpelt or a shadowsight where a cats time in the medicine den started their fascination with medicine and they switched to that path due to personal intrigue. id say a more interesting and realistic angle to it is having a disabled cat who found fulfilment in doing something else besides being a warrior becoming bitter about their entire clan ‘mourning’ how theyll never fight again or giving them the pretence of being a warrior being the best thing you can do.... it depends on the character really

this is just a very basic disability thing but stray from the whole ‘useless/dead weight’ way of regarding disabled characters. like dont place their worth on how well they service a clan or not theyre still deserving of shelter and whatnot. you dont need to justify a cats existence or usefulness by going ‘well they may be blind but their sense of smell is excellent so we keep them around’ or whatever its just no good

last thing i can think of is like. dont disregard how a cats disability affects them. like its fine that briarlight cant fight (or even hunt major types of prey) she doesnt need some convoluted method that lets her do that. there are like a dozen other warriors hunting and fighting and theres present value and enjoyment in the stuff she does around camp. she doesnt have to be brightheart 2 its ok

naruto and sasukes rivalry at the end of part one and the beginning of part two is so well written i think its sort of crazy

i wrote this on mobile so idk how to add a read more. sorry

the way in which the later half of part one the conflict becomes mostly about sasukes growing insecurity after itachi shows up and doesnt even acknowledge sasuke instead looking for naruto, and then sasuke immediately loses after training so hard, and itachi retruamatizes him into a fucking coma. but then naruto learns the rasengan and helps save tsunade (this part of the search for tsunade arc sucks cuz its riddled in misogyny and also frankly, boring, but like. finally seeing naruto learn the rasengan is epic) and so we are finally seeing naruto's underdog protag bit really start to pay off. we are finally seeing him starting to reach his full potential. But instead of this being good for his relationships, in a way it is part of what causes sasuke to leave. because the moment sasuke wakes up, he's already insecure bc itachi not only beat him in an instant, he didnt even care about itachi. he was after naruto. and then they have the rooftop fight and sasuke is relieved to see he made a bigger dent than naruto until he sees the back and he fucking punches a wall he's so upset that he's falling behind. and like. thats the reason he goes to orochimaru. because hes insecure about his lack of power as naruto starts to outpace him (and also cuz he has some crazy convoluted methods of self harm. he wont allow himself to be happy cuz he thinks it makes him weak. but like we all knew that)

and i think its interesting that sasuke has a very quick turnaround from openly insecure and upset at his own inability after search for tsunade, to confident by the time vote rolls around, because of his curse mark fully evolving. sasuke just gets a sudden power boost with minimal work put into it, although its painful and he did have to get locked in a jar for a bit there. he still clearly cant bear to actually kill naruto in vote1, and again his actions of choosing to go to a person who he knows is trying to use him and cutting himself off from his "precious comrades" naruto and sakura is absolutely an act of self harm. but in terms of actual ability, i dont think sasukes initial cockiness in vote1 is fake. its part of why he really freaks out when naruto gets his nine tails chakra cloak. every time he seems to surpass naruto, naruto somehow catches up. that terrifies sasuke. that he wont be good enough to kill his brother. that while he's been making friends and feeling somewhat happy again, he's forgotten his purpose.

sidebar. before itachi showed up again, sasuke really wasn't upset by narutos growth at all. remember when he said "i really want to fight you too" to naruto in chunin exams and naruto was super happy because sasuke was acknowledging him as an equal? sasuke also doesnt get that upset when rock lee beats him in their spat. sure he acts cocky beforehand, but when lee immediately annihilates him instead of having a like breakdown or smn, sasuke just steals aspects of his technique from lee, and improves. itachi alone is responsible for sasukes spiral from i think the mentally healthiest point we see him in the series (late chunin exams, konoha crush) where he openly admits he cares about his teammates, to sasuke denying himself affection for them to the degree he cuts them off entirely (or tries to anyways). so like. fuck itachi lol

but anyways, i think when sasuke says "theres no way youre going to be able to land a single scratch on my forehead" he really thinks he's going to come out of this fight on top. which is why narutos sudden power ups freak him the fuck out. at the same time though, by putting on the forehead protector, he actively acknowledges naruto as an equal. he respects (and loves) naruto, and hes open about this: "it wasnt meaningless, to me you have become my closest friend"

i remember watching naruto blind when i was 12, i was so certain naruto was going to win in vote. as he went into ninetails mode and threw sasuke around it seemed so obvious naruto would win. after all, the narrative so far has been about naruto catching up to and then surpassing sasuke. there was no doubt in my mind naruto was going to take sasuke home. other ppl can say what they expected watching naruto blindly (like truly blind. like u never knew sasuke left) but to me it seemed so clear sasuke was gonna lose. he'd basically lost the rooftop fight, he'd relied on naruto to protect sakura in konoha crush, even if his curse mark was fully activated and he upgraded his sharingan mid fight (smn that can only happen when u experience either extreme happiness or loss, so the fact sasuke felt like he was losing naruto to such a painful degree when naruto wasnt even dead is....yeah) theres nooo way this was going to end badly.

and yet sasuke wins. sasuke fucking wins. and i think this and the beginning of shippuden are so fucking cool because of this.

part one is about naruto getting stronger and beating his rival, to the point his rival becomes insecure. the underdog story finally pays off. of course we want naruto to win; its obvious sasuke isnt in a good frame of mind and is being manipulated, and that going to orochimaru is a bad idea. the guy literally wants to kill and use sasuke, and sasuke is aware of this and still so desperate for power that he's going to go. (before anyone says naruto just wanted to like. have sasuke stay in the village rn under the gov that killed his clan. nobody knew that at this point in the series. honestly i highly doubt even kishimoto had come up with that plot point yet) its always wild to me when ppl try to act super Deep and say naruto was in the wrong here. if your friend was about to jump off a bridge, any decent friend would do their best to stop them. sure narutos methods r a bit unsympathetic and violent but like theyre 12 year olds trained to kill ppl. grow up.

anyways the natural conclusion if we dont think about there being a ton more of the show left, would be narutos underdog story finally cumulating in him beating sasuke. after all, this is the first time we as an audience get to see them fight each other directly (? im pretty sure). all previous fights get interrupted (rooftop, which it seems to be implied by the water tower destruction naruto would have won) or were just them showing their abilities against some external opponent.

honestly, looking back, if naruto had won, there really wouldnt be anywhere to go from there. even if sasuke still left another way, if naruto clearly surpassed his goal of beating sasuke, a goal he talks about almost as much as being hokage, any further power growth from naruto would feel unfulfilling. from the pov of continuing the story, of course sasuke wins. but naruto still gets a scratch on his forehead protector, to indicate that they are much closer in ability than at the start of the series.

and so the end of part one effectively returns us to the original status quo of sasuke being stronger than naruto, although only barely, compared to his far superior abilities at the beginning of part one.

cut to part two/shippuden. narutos been training with jiraiya for 2/3 years. him and sakura nail the bell test with kakashi with ease. the narrative sets up naruto to be this new and improved stronger smarter version of himself. we cant wait to see what kind of new stuff he can do!

it turns out he cant do anything really.

in the gaara rescue arc, naruto's words are the reason chiyo ultimately changes her beliefs and entrusts things to the younger generation by sacrificing her life for gaara's, but fighting wise? naruto does like literally nothing. he yells at deidara a bunch and runs after him while sakura kicks ass

next, during that part where they meet up with orochimaru and he says "my sasuke" and narutos like "dont talk about sasuke like he belongs to you, especially in front of me!" it's exciting because oh hell yeah previously when naruto went into fox mode serious shit went down. he is going to wreck orochimaru. you feel it.

he doesnt. in fact he makes things worse by hurting sakura, and burning all his own skin off. orochimaru gets away. naruto effectively threw a gay temper tantrum and nothing improved.

then we get to naruto and sasukes reunion. after so long training in order to get sasuke back we're ready for another major vote style show down. weve seen how sakura has improved in the timeskip, and we are about to see how sasuke has improved (in fact, we maybe already have. i forget where the scene of sasuke surrounded by unconscious bodies is. if its before this scene then we've seen his improvement as well). its time to see the fruits of narutos training with jiraiya.

naruto and sasuke reunite. they stare at each other. sasuke comes down, and takes out his sword to kill naruto. and naruto. doesnt. do. anything. sasuke legit says "dont you want to be hokage? you should be training instead of chasing after me. im going to kill you now." pulls out his sword, and naruto just stands there and says "someone who couldnt save one friend hardly deserves to be hokagesai is the one who blocks sasukes sword. and sasuke even has a kind of obnoxious quip about "you used the correct block" also then he fucking goes into narutos headspace or whatever and fucks kurama up, all while insanely calm and seemingly apathetic. sasuke in part one tried to be unemotional but he was very prone to anxiety or anger. but now hes legitamitely (as far as we can see anyways) totally confident and totally unfeeling. (ofc we know this isnt true. but thats only cuz of later scenes.)

sasuke leaves, magically in fire, which is a technique we never see again, and naruto starts crying. so does sakura, who also did not do anything, but lets be real thats kinda standard for how kishimoto writes her. the fact naruto doesnt fight sasuke, after two previous fights where he actively didnt do anything really, sets us practically back to page one. juxtaposed with sasukes clear leaps and bounds in ability (knocked like a bajillion dudes unconscious -- ppl he coudlve easily killed but didnt want to -- somehow fucking can see kurama in narutos brain and also destroy the guy) naruto is seemingly stagnant. and even if its just due to emotional reservations, naruto clearly is not sasukes equal right now. he hasnt done a single actually useful thing for like all of part two so far.

and i just think thats. so incredible and engaging. because its not like naruto lost all his abilities or something -- he still can do rasengan, its clear in the second bell test hes better at strategizing snd teamwork -- but theres some new obstacle. not only a lack of ability compared to sasuke, but a lack of willpower as well. of course, its kinda obvious to me sasuke is incapable of actually killing naruto himself, but hes a hell of a lot better at hiding that, and we'd have no way to know that on first viewing. so its not a total retcon. but it also returns us to our old familiar rivalry between the two, except both naruto and sasuke have changed as people, and as a result, so have the contours of their relationship. but we have returned to the fundamental idea of sasuke being far stronger than naruto.

this is part of why part two/shippuden feel so romantically focused. the focus shifts a lot from becoming hokage to getting sasuke back. i mean naruto literally was basically like theres no point in being hokage if i cant save you *lets sasuke kill him* like. mentall illness aside thats so clear his focus is on sasuke above all else. something that will repeatedly be established throughout part two.

i also think its so human? kishimoto has always excelled at writing children like children and teenagers like teenagers. narutos actions as a 15 year old mainly consisting of crying, throwing a tantrum, trying to be threatening, resigning himself to others, and making things worse as a result is essentially how i acted at 15. its the kind of thing that speaks to the fact that he's still just a kid. and while we see less of that from sasuke, the ways sasuke interacts with taka, or the fact he blows up an entire portion of the hideout cuz he got woken up from his nap, also remind us these are young teens that we are looking at. theyre gonna act crazy.

by showing narutos not necessarily relapse but lack of growth, it perfectly sets up sasuke as his goal once again. something that everyone and their mother seems to notice and want to talk about. as naruto trains for the rasenshuriken kakashi thinks to himself about how sasuke is narutos sole motivation. naruto himself says "you became my goal" in kage summit. as we see naruto start to improve again and get to sasukes level we also see that sasuke is no longer insecure (he like smirks when he finds out naruto saved the village from pein singlehandedly) about his ability, and naruto catches up again. he doesnt surpass him this time though, which is made abduntanly clear by the fact that in vote2 they both lose and arm and are beaten to a pulp by the other. they are truly equals. blah blah blah.

but i just think it was so smart of kishimoto to find a way to keep sasuke as narutos goal and to return us to the original dynamic but in a new way. i think he nailed the crazy insane way 15 year olds act just like he nailed how 12 year olds act. he also made it so we would get to actually see narutos improvement happen, rather than it happening offscreen which would he pretty unsatisfying for our titular character. he also showed us how the core aspect of naruto that was impulsive and emotional and not super strategic still remained. i also think some part of kishi was aware sasuke as a motivator for narutos growth was way more compelling and interesting than ninja president, even if some ppl wanted naruto to become hokage eventually (i know i did). but yeah i just. i think its so good tjat instead of bringing naruto back stronger post ts or something, kishimoto had the awareness to let us see naruto fail and struggle just like he did in part one, because that struggle and determination are part of why we root for him. and he was also smart enough to make it obvious sasuke had improved a ton, so we'd have a readon for naruto to get stronger, only this time his desire to get to sasukes level wasnt out of a desire for acknowledgmenet, but out of a love for sasuke and desire to help him. like by doing that kishimoto showed the lengths to which narutos love goes. and also humanizes him and reminds us of his age and ARRRRGH PART ONE AND EARLY SHIPPUDEN WERE SO GOOD

anyway! things I liked:

the humor: s3 was pretty funny lmao, theres that whole collection of outta pocket scenes from throughout the season that I find hilarious each time + the humor was a little more dirty which is nice bc the audience has also grown up from the kids they might've been when they watched it on CN

dickbabs!: I'm not a huge fan of dickbabs, I prefer dickkory (no hate to dickbabs stans btw I just vibe more with dickkory) but this dynamic between the two of them was so sweet and well-balanced I couldnt help but squeal everytime they were on-screen

Clark and Conner getting along: them calling each other brothers was so CUTE I canttt

FORAGER: an absolute legend 10/10 freaking love him

That Episode With The Hallucination: mmmmmmm I miss wally. SO MUCH. and the og 6 I was Super Mad about the first timeskip so it was nice to see them all together again🥰

I'm sorry??? what the fuck were you aiming for here exactly 3. why did you have to name her violet harper. what. 4. really?? the immediate romance with brion? What the shit was up with that...you make her Muslim in some aspects like victor not seeing her hair when she brushes it but her LITERALLY making out with brion like I'm sorry what the fuck are you doing??? you had one muslim character and you fucked up so bad holy shit...like...it could've been simple as hell, man, but no...Big Yikes.

M'gann: I've said this before but I really feel like once they introduced artemis m'gann immediately became a side character whose only job is to be villainised again and again even though it doesn't really vibe with her character. Secret teams?? Lying to Conner??? This isn't s3 but that whole thing with their breakup in s2...what the shit are they doing to M'gann, man. I loved her so much in s1, she's literally trying her best after having gone through so much and it's never fully explored...like we get half explanations every season but we're never shown half the shit that we were given for artemis. And by making her the Uncool Girlfriend at points it just looks like they're trying make her easy to hate like what the fuck. no. stop it

The Plot: too overcomplicated, too many characters. It's only season three, why are you introducing Apokolips already. Why are there so many characters?? what's with all the subplots yall were switching location cards every five minutes. And it's so convoluted...like...what was going on with Beast Boy and the monkey-god-doom-patrol-exposition stuff? I can't even remember if there were two granny goodnesses or just the one. All of those meta kids left over from the last season are a cute cast but like...I was so bored??? we know you can do well-written self-contained storylines a la s1, so hop to it, yeah?

THE ANIMATION: ok ok ok so. season 1 and two (one especially) had a very distinct feeling to them and that feeling was very late-2000s Cartoon Network Action Show - the base model for the males and females is the same (like Ben 10 Alien Force) the colors were not dynamic (stayed the same no matter the lighting, lots of cel shading, and generally were realistically colored in the sense that suspension of disbelief was not entirely necessary) CHEEKBONES, gritty textures and purple skies (Batman the Brave and the Bold). overall theres a certain Tone to the earlier seasons that spoke a lot to the animation capabilities of the studios at the time, as well as the general feel of the show. however, season three was a MAJOR downgrade in terms of animation. they made it both simpler and more complicated - they started using their DCAMU animation style which while it does give muscles to the women, adds too many unneeded shadows and a strange stiffness and dullness to every character. There are now extra lines and uncessesary shadows on the face of every character, and their eyes and facial features are almost identical. There's also less highlights, and the hairstyles are way too overcomplicated now to be appealing (see mgann and dick) - the hair is unspeakably dull and and the skin tones and hair colors are painful on the eyes. This isn't even taking into account the shitty backgrounds they've started using (AHEM AHEM ARTEMIS'S KITCHEN) because while the earlier seasons may have had unappealing, mostly empty settings, the characters still fit in to the scene, unlike now.

the lack of sisterhood????: apparently, only artemis goes to see zatanna for her Dr. Fate appointments. Apparently, M'gann barely talks to Artemis after the very tragic apparent death of Wally. the two of them, dare I say even the THREE of them, should be close as hell considering they spent their early years super-heroing together on a team full of boys. M'gann LITERALLY called Artemis her sister in the SAME EPISODE she was introduced, and neither of them had any real girlfriends other than each other at this point. M'gann who fell apart so hard Artemis died in her head that she almost killed them all in her grief. Like. You're telling me, you're SHOWING me that these two aren't each other's support system? Where is the sisterhood, bitch????

Lastly: the costume design. I understand that they're constrained by the need to make it simple enough to animate, but COME ON. if you're going to borrow Diana's DCAMU/JL: War costume, at least keep the metal silver. What the fuck is that green-gold. And Tigress? god DAMN that mask is ugly. Cassie looks like she robbed a goddamn supermarket discount clothing aisle for her outfit. Why is bart's outfit Like That it's so ugly it makes me want to cry. @ young justice costume designers Please Rethink Your Decisions

that's about all I can think of right now. it got REALLY negative whoops, but theres just so much I didn't like about this season :/ hopefully the next one will better ;-;

so nothing really happens with the book at first and wwx forgets about it for the most part but then he wakes up one morning and he’s got an extra like RMB 1000 (i dont actually know much about currency so it’s roughly $200 if my quick interneting is legit)

wwx is like wtf? and once he finds out it’s from his novel he’s doubly like wtf? but then he finds out that someone had purchased his book and did a dramatic reading on youtube bc wwx decided that regular erotica was boring and decided to make it satirical or whatever and people loved it??

he’s got nothing better to do so he just goes hm yeah remember that Author i dated who had an “incredible idea that would absolutely amaze The Critics and helped explore his own convoluted mind” let’s make something of that and he writes another book kinda mocking that idea in a very horny way.
