Hey, do you have any headcanons / theory from how a single village that exists in Weeping Peninsula is afflicted by Frenzy whereas very coincidentally Irina (who is connected with Hyetta of course) is from there too? My friend Val also investigated on Hyettas quest by killing Edgar before as much as talking to Irina, and turns out later Shabriri Grape appears on his place in the Castle Morne anyways, so if anything maybe bro was doomed no matter what 🤔 I am just not sure what came first - the village being afflicted and this family catching the "sickness", or Irina having a weird evil twin and infecting it herself hfhghghv There is a cut content note about Shabriri mentioning that he went to die (physically) IN Weeping Peninsula, so there is that too. Wanted to hear your ideas if you have them?

A few notes on the Ailing Village, just to see what info is available at first glance.

The church there is called the Callu Baptismal Church. Despite the ever-present religious imagery, I don't think baptism is referenced anywhere else in-game.

The Flame of Frenzy incantation is found there. The description doesn't really tell us anything specific, instead serving as the player's first basic introduction to the FF.

Incantation originating from the maddening Three Fingers.

Causes the yellow flame of frenzy to burst forth from the caster's eyes. Charging increases the range of the burst.

The flame of frenzy deals damage and causes buildup of madness. This incantation also causes buildup of madness in the caster and is only effective against Tarnished.

We also find the Flame Crest wooden shield. The wording of the description suggests to me that the village didn't just fall to Frenzy overnight -- instead, whether imposed or by choice, the village functioned as something of a leper colony. Alternatively, the corruption process was slow enough that the villagers had the presence of mind to try to warn off others who might have come looking for them.

A tall, medium-sized wooden shield. Light for its size, and easy to handle. Carried by soldiers of the village that is afflicted by frenzy.

The yellow flame is the symbol of the affliction, serving as a warning to those who might approach the village.

There is a Lesser Alabaster Lord quite close by. I'm not sure what to make of this.

I've posted a theory before detailing why I believe that Hyetta is A) one of Irena's past lives, and B) Vyke's maiden. I'll post a link below, along with the portions relevant here.

"Shield made to venerate a maiden whose eyes were crushed by Briars of Sin before being reborn in these lands."

"Given it’s placement on the Weeping Peninsula, we seem to be meant to assume that the maiden in question is Irina. According to her dialogue, her eyes have been weak since birth. After her revival (?) as Hyetta, she says the same, her blindness was a congenital condition, not the result of an illness or injury. Based on the Dung Eater’s questline, we know that killing someone in a specific way (or tampering with the body after death) can inflict a curse that persists into the next life."

... "Vyke and Hyetta are ambushed at the Church of Inhibition -- or, if you want to get really tragic, Vyke sent her away after his meeting with the Three Fingers so that she would not be incriminated by her association with him, only for the Confessors to hunt her down anyway."

"The Confessors execute Hyetta via the Briars of Sin. Vyke proceeds to lose his shit so hard that an echo of his rage (the berserker shade) still guards the church centuries after. For the first time, he gives in to the Flame of Frenzy."

There are three in-game settlements afflicted with the FF -- The Ailing Village, the Frenzied Flame Village, and the Yelough Anix Ruins. I'm not even going to touch the Yelough Anix (pretty sure "Anix" is a typo, but if it has some meaning I'm not aware of please share), but we know that the Frenzied Flame Village was the site of a meltdown by a host of the FF.

Although I can't prove that the Frenzied Flame Village wasn't afflicted prior to Vyke's meltdown, it would make sense if the village were infected by said event. I don't have enough proof to establish that a pattern (again, I have no idea who could have infected the Yelough Anix), but it's at least plausible that the Ailing Village was infected by contact with FF host such as Vyke.

There's also the possibility that Edgar was to blame. Note the Banished Knight's Halberd description:

A finely-crafted halberd intricately engraved with an ancient motif.

Given to knights who, whether by misfortune or misdeed, were forced to abandon their homes.

Most of these knights were sent to the fringes, where they were forced to start anew with only despair for company.

Edgar also seems to parallel the Hero of Morne. Grafted Blade Greatsword description:

The storied sword of Castle Morne. A revenger's weapon, it is burdened with oceans of anger and regret.

A lone surviving champion from a country now vanished was so determined to continue fighting that he claimed the swords of an entire clan of warriors.

When I first saw your ask, I though that Hyetta/Irina might have been patient zero. But taking all this together, I have a different proposal. I think the Hero of Morne might have fallen to Frenzy.

From the Sword Monument outside Castle Morne:

The siege of Castle Morne A lone hero fights for his vengeance Only to fall at the hand of Lord Godfrey.

The sole survivor of another of the Golden Order's genocides, the Hero would have been a prime candidate to fall to despair, and thus to Frenzy. The use of the archaic word "revenger" in the Grafted Blade Greatsword's description seems to be drawing a deliberate parallel to Edgar, who meets his end in the Revenger's Shack.

Like Vyke, the Hero might have sought out the FF in order to gain the power to save those he loved, only to despair when he lost them anyway. Or perhaps like Edgar, he succumbed to mindless hate after losing everyone he cared for, with no reason to go on beyond his vengeance. Due to its location just beyond Morne's walls, the Ailing Village could have easily been infected by the "fallout" from the Hero's final battle.

(One more note: when fought in the Lord Contender's Evergaol, Vyke uses the Storm Assault ash of war.

Storm Assault: One of the skills that channel the tempests of Stormveil. Leap forward through surrounding storm winds and thrust armament downward. The attack will produce more storm winds at the point of impact.

We already knew that Vyke was a member of the Dragon Cult, and thus one of Godwyn's knights. But this skill might also link him to Godfrey, the war against the Storm Lord, and the early conquest of Limgrave.

This is more a headcanon than a theory, but it would be a wonderful bit of narrative resonance if Vyke fought under Godfrey during the Siege of Morne and was there to witness the Hero's Frenzied last stand.)

tl;dr trans origin story

So, what have I done so far? How did I arrive to this point? Well, I kind of always knew that I wished I had been born a girl, but for many years I suppressed these feelings. I can remember as far back as age 4, seeing my older female cousin Jaimie and wishing I could look like her.

(Warning: I talk briefly about a sexual encounter below.)

I'd been somewhat familiar with feminizing HRT, FFS and vaginoplasty since I was an early adolescent thanks to cable TV, and transitioning seemed like such an extreme process (because it is) that it seemed impossibly expensive to achieve the results that I wanted for myself. I'd always been fascinated with hearing the stories of trans people and would watch anything related to them them any chance I got. My favourite movie since I was 16 years old was, and still is to this day, Breakfast on Pluto, a story about an Irish transwoman. How curious that it didn't occur to me until later in life that I loved this movie because I wanted to be like the main character.

Throughout the years there were other signs, like playing dress-up with my best friend and wearing their femme clothes, which led to the appearance of my Southern belle alter-ego Annabelle in our late teens while the True Blood series was still popular. Yes, with a big, floppy hat y todo. 👒

Shortly after moving to Seattle, I'd come to the realisation that I'd never been comfortable with a male identity and decided to start identifying as non-binary and using they/them pronouns.

There were two main catalysts that made me come to terms with my inner womanhood this past year. The first was a sexual encounter I had with a bisexual man who wanted me to wear panties for him. As we had sex, he sexualised me as a woman and referred to me as a woman. It made me feel validated and desired in a way that I had never been before, and it felt so right and perfect somehow. This encounter, as you might imagine, made me reflect long and hard about my gender identity.

The second catalyst was an Italki Spanish conversation class. My teacher is a trans woman, and the topic of discussion was gender identity. At one point during our discussion, she asked me, "What part of you wants to cling to the masculine?" and I realised that I didn't really have an answer for her. I realised that I was clinging to masculinity (or vestiges of it, lol) because I wanted to please other people, rather than make myself happy and discover my true identity.

A couple days later, on July 20th 2022, I decided that it was time to start doing something about it. I started by telling close friends, and it wasn't long before I settled on the name Aurelia and started to try presenting as female to the best of my ability. I'm very fortunate to work in a very trans-friendly city at a very trans-friendly business with exceptional health insurance for individuals who seek in gender affirming care. Having already worked alongside several trans people at my job, I felt comfortable enough to start coming out to my coworkers right away. They, of course, accepted me with open arms and have been amazing at using my preferred name and pronouns. A few of them even gave me clothes!

I then, of course, started shopping. In addition to makeup and clothes, I bought an epilator, silicone breast forms, mastectomy bras, a few different styles of gaffs as well as tucking tape. Not at all once, of course, 'cause all that shit was expensive. (Especially the gaffs! I tried two styles, a cheap $20 Amazon that was bulky and inaffective, and a $40 that works amaaazingly. $40 is a lot, but after I started ordering one every paycheque, I think she took notice and started sending me two per order, which was super sweet of her. Thanks, Lexy B Blair!)

I found a doctor who specialises in transgender care through my insurance and on September 6th, I started taking my HRT medications. After 5 weeks, I've seen slight (though not yet visible) breast tissue growth, skin softening, and thinning and softening of body hair. It's hard for me to gauge any emotional or psychological changes, since I was a very emotional person before HRT, lol. I guess I get angry way less often, but I also feel like this was true before I started HRT and has more to do with the relief I felt immediately after coming out that I was finally allowing myself to present female.

On October 13th, I got registered for laser hair removal, and I'll begin my first treatments in November! I'm so tired of shaving every day and having to use orange colour corrector and a full face of heavy foundation just to have a "natural" look. My facial hair comes in really dark, so no matter how close I shave, they leave behind a greenish undertone to my skin, which is why I need the colour corrector.

So, now what? We wait for the hormones to do their job. I probably won't notice any major changes until a year in, and the full effects could take 3-4 years. I asked my doctor about progesterone to help with breast development, and he wants to try it when I'm 6 months to a year in. Depending on how well that works, I may or may not eventually want breast augmentation.

Another procedure I'm definitely interested in is facial feminisation surgery. Because I went through a testosterone-based puberty during my adolescence, my jawline is very angular and I have a protruding brow bone compared to before I started puberty. HRT is supposed to help a little bit with rounding of the face via fat redistribution, but this won't be noticeable for at least a year. So, I suppose the plan will be to see how satisfied I am after the three year mark, and if not, look into getting the procedure.

And then, of course, there's the surgery that cispeople are most obsessed with: ✨vaginoplasty✨. Will I get it? First of all, if you don't already know this, please don't ever ask a trans person this question. As for me, I'm still conflicted. I don't believe in the concept of "completely transitioning" and don't think that genital surgery is a necessary step in a gender transition. I would be completely content keeping my genitals and would still feel as complete of a woman as any other. And yet, when it really comes down to it, I think I would still prefer a vagina to a penis if given the choice... which, I guess I have? But then, of course, there's the whole surgery itself, which is very extensive and scary, with a rough recovery. Plus the extensive dilations. Hmm, I just don't know about all that. If I did it, which I honestly don't think I will, I would want a very talented doctor who will perform a labiaplasty, clitoroplasty, and vaginoplasty, and who has multiple photographs of the results of former patients.

Gonna go on a little random rant about current fandom criticisms about a show I watch without tagging it because fuck it.

Men were not commonly with a woman while she was giving birth until the 1960s. They literally left it to the midwives and were elsewhere because that was the cultural norm. The show is in a medieval type setting, which definitely didn't have men in the birthing room. You can't claim a male character doesn't give a shit about his wife simply because he wasn't present for a difficult birth. For what it's worth in this setting it is also completely normal for them to attempt to save the baby if it is clear that the mother will not survive. Is it a ok/nice/good thing to happen? No it fucking isn't. Nobody wants to make these decisions. They are often forced into it by the situation they're in. Is it a moral failing on the part of a character having to make a choice between losing one or losing them both? No. God the reason the scenes exist in the first place is to show that the world is cruel and often women in it suffer alone or have their agency taken from them at the point of death.

Just really need people to stop using modern judgement to make out a character is a terrible person for behaving according to the social norms of the fantasy period they're in and well as facing problems they can only deal with in a certain way because they're in a setting that gives them limited options (often none 'morally' good).

Ffs please stop seeing everything as morally black and white, and realise that the world is too complicated for a simply good/bad dichotomy.

I want to wash my eyes, today I saw for the first time the indoctrination files c/rith gives to their audiences. I saw a new player waving it around as proof. Selected ultimania quotes and of course, essays. I like how they write down ways to argue with clotis and zeriths. Such as, "if they say C isn't himself as soldier C, tell them A is the only one who can bring out the "real" him as shown in part 1". They keep repeating the "real" part again and again and trying to emphasize the appeal of the crackship which is ~healing~

No wonder they thrown toriyama away for directly stating C only shows his real self with T ONLY and unlike them I'm not going to put " marks on the word real. And no wonder they hate T with a burning passion because she actually does heal him.

If they include AC and say she heals there? First, C's ultimately the one who forgave himself of his guilt, let's not forget that because they like to erase that part and that everyone, T, A, and Z are part of that process of reminding him that it has to be him. And geostigma is her direct responsibility as a steward of the planet nothing singled out there.

They like to manipulate and rely on the player's laziness to look for information (what are they? Fucking Jenova?). Even to give ways to "fight" back. No wonder they all sound the same. Ugh I just realized the existence of LTD and ship wars in FF7 is giving the illusion that nothing is canon even if CT have more sources than any other ship in FF franchise. It gas lights them into thinking nothing is canon even if it's quite literally right in their faces.

P.S. I fcking hate with a burning passion how anybody gives interpretation essays as proof. Or media tropes and fan service as proof of canon. No wonder sometimes I see some former C/As getting angry at their creators because what they have are only interpretation instead of in game content.

At no point does it say anywhere that aeri brings out Cloud's real self.

It's this quote they lie about. They claim Cloud being "conscious" is him being his real self while Tifa wants a soldier or whatever garbage they make up to ignore the proper text.

I could go into a whole thing over AC using the script and ultis to show what those idiots claim is total bullshit, but the short version is Aerith didn't do fuck all except trigger Cloud's trauma. She wasn't actually present for most of the film, even in the scenes she's shown in, and she didn't cure geostigma.

Ideky the devs put those stupid ribbons on everyone for someone they knew for three weeks two years previously. It makes no fucking sense to be mourning still.

I really want a rewrite of AC. It needs fixing so badly.

I'm honestly so tired of people acting like Aerith is bigger than god and nobody's allowed to say anything bad about her. She's not even a good character. She's selfish, spoiled, her job role in battle can literally be taken by every other character, she doesn't listen to anyone, whines, acts like she's the leader and everyone should do what she says because she exists, she harasses Cloud in ways that are so not ok but because she's a girl and "cute" she's somehow exempt from consequences, and people constantly put their feelings on her feelings alone on Cloud and turn him into a two timing pos douchebag because they and she refuse to fucking listen to the literal protagonist.

I'm actually annoyed we're stuck with her for the entirety of Rebirth. I was hoping we'd get rid of her halfway through at the most, but nauuu we get 40hrs of stupid ass sidequests that include flower picking because the devs think that's good content and one way or another they will make us put up with her.

Well, I ain't putting her in my party and I ain't doing her shitty sidequests, and lucky me, idgaf about trophies so it won't even matter that I don't platinum the game 🤷

The writers just can’t help making Dick re-live his greatest hits, can they? I’m so tired. He didn’t give a flying f*ck about her for two entire seasons - not even when she was mentioned being missing or whatever in his Trigon!dreamscape. The entire dreamscape was, in fact, centered around Kory and how she’s basically his weakness. Where is that energy now? The show is about The Titans - aka the namesake of the goddamn show - so why am I seeing my notp? With every episode that goes by, I get less and less sure of my DickKory endgame. im glad to find a x male reader only!! saw another another anon talking how hard is for her as a cis girl to change pronouns in their head when they read x male reader works but well shit, i imagine how she would feel if she was transmasc mlm then. most fanfictions are targeted towards cis girls and a good part don't even have the gender of the reader specified in the beggining, because fem reader is seen as the norm, something that shouldn't be stated. i'm glad things are changing but damn. how many times i thought a fic was gender neutral because it had no specification but then it was female reader.

before knowing i was a trans man, i didn't have to search at all for fics for femañe reader, because 90% of them were female reader, so for me it was the norm. but now as a guy i can see how hard it is to find content for me.

when i want x male reader, even though i can find a good amount, most are amab anatomy and smut. how am i supposed to relate to that too?? i'm ok with but most of them are untagged, how are you supposed to write for men but not include trans men? there are so few gender neutral afab/non specified anatomy fics... something that was supposed to be comforting turns out DYSPHORIC.

i'm really glad fanfiction was popularized by women, and they can have their space here, but people want to make more diverse content to cater to them and they can relate to them!! that's important too. things are changing and we need to be specific in tags

you straight cis allo people should know how hard it is for people outside the norm to see content specific for them. why do you want small writers to make their contents palatable to you when the majority of things are made SPECIFICALLY FOR YOU? go find somewhere else to read.

It truly sucks being a part of the fanficiton community while being a male/trans man/male presenting etc. Like for example, I was reading a Tendou x reader fic the other day and I thought it was gender neutral. But then they started talking about the body parts of the reader and bringing up stuff like "bras and panties" I immediately started to feel dysphoric afterwards. And all because they didn't specify the gender in the fic.

And I hate it when women/trans women/female presenting etc are like "I hate having to switch the pronouns on male reader ffs" because I truly believe it is US who has to do that. There's not that many of us male writers out there so when we are out there and writing for MLM or x male reader period, we get bombarded with requests. Now, that's not a bad thing to get tons of requests, i'm not saying that, i'm just proving that our community of male readers is getting much much bigger. and I hope one day we get so big that the female readers WILL have to change pronouns left n right in ffs because I want them to feel how we're feeling right now. I think it's the only way they'd actually understand.

And I try to make body parts as non specific as I can to allow my trans readers to have the chance to imagine themselves AS the reader. I love it when I get people telling me they love my writing so much! It means the world to me, as I am a smaller writer.

I know. I’m going to copy and paste one of the comments from there, because I think it very eloquently states the problems with that article.

I feel like Christina has also been acting a completely different Beth than what she says here. Beth does not come off like she's in love with Dean at all, she comes off like she stays him with him because his familiarity is comforting in uncertain times.

It is genuinely appalling the way Christina fawns over Dean because she likes the actor. Plenty of women stay in marriages that they're no longer invested in because it's safe and they think it's stable for the kids, and that's fine in some cases, but Dean was straight-up emotionally abusive to Beth, and the image that Christina presents romanticizes a terrible marriage in a way that I think is more insidiously dangerous than romanticizing her relationship with Rio. 

A bored suburban housewife having a torrid and dangerous affair with a sexy gang member/crime boss is obviously a fantasy, but the shit that went down with Dean is the sort of quietly commonplace thing that happens to women all over the world every day. The man repeatedly undervalued, cheated on, gaslighted, and lied to his wife, and he's being romanticized by the actress and given an unrealistic redemption arc that is exactly the same "a good woman can change a man" BS that people get up in arms about with bad boy fantasies! How is this better than that? Ugh.

"Beth is fed up with constantly having to serve other people and constantly be backtracking and feeding off someone else’s pocket." Translation: Beth wants to reap the benefits of running a criminal empire while paying nothing and taking no risks. Don't get me wrong, that is ultimately what every criminal wants, and it's certainly what Rio wants, but the difference is that Rio earned it and paid a price for it, and feelings aside, that difference is at the core of their conflict, IMO. 

Beth wants what she hasn't earned, and I think the writers may want us to believe that killing Rio means she's ready to be a boss, but for the most part, she's made so many stupid mistakes this season that it's just as laughable now as it was at the end of S2. She still has no idea what she's doing, and there's more to being a crime boss than pulling a trigger (or paying someone else to pull it for you). I mean hell, Rio had to tell her that she needed a way to clean her cash in the last episode -- she thinks she's better than him and can run things on her own, but he still has to guide her on things as obvious as that, FFS.

Sometimes I think the actors talk this way because they think they're being sneaky, like the writers and actors know all of these issues are there but they all think they're writing/acting in a way that obscures them, and that we as viewers don't see through their smoke and mirrors and will be so surprised when the narratives aren't what we think they are. Either they haven't figured out that the audience is not fooled anymore, or they are really this delusional.
