what would you say are issues with s//imones bop run
i’m gonna hit the broadstrokes, bc there’s certainly a lot that i could nitpick if i had the time+inclination to reread & its been a few months since I read it all the way through, but for NOW i’ll just hit some Major Points (under the cut bc i dont like clogging up y’alls dashes with negativity)
One of the biggest that can make rereading difficult, is that Simone’s writing esp for the time period (but even in some modern comics that she’s involved in) was penned under the shadow of 3rd-wave feminism. There’s a lot of liberties that she’ll afford the main cast while making some >_> questionable decisions with other characters. (Ones off the top of my head that made me v uncomfy were Savant, Shiva and Sin Lance, but I wont go into detail until I actually go back to read and really Think on why the way she wrote them made me so uncomfy)
From a writing perspective, I think that BoP had some pacing issues along the way too, not all of which can be chalked up to solely Simone, as the run swapped hands a few times in its 100+ issue run ofc. BUT, with the follow up series that she penned just before the n52 reboot? While nice to wrap up some key storylines with a Bow, didn’t quite answer Everything, and again, was paced a little oddly. (Also the line-up choice of throwing in Hawk & Dove was.... just kinda random? Esp since they weren’t part of the team before, they had no personal stake in the plot that Calculator was planning against the birds so?)
Actually I guess those ARE the biggest issues I have huh.
Again, I’m sure if i gave it a good reread and think I’d be able to narrow down more points and most esp WHY those points but ye. off the top of my head, thats kinda it haha
