okay hear me out modern au where Tommy and Maria first meet in a club in their 20s and they bump into each other while dancing and just start dancing together and they just hit it off but in the end they both forget to give each other their numbers so both of them go back to the same club the next week to hopefully meet each other again (also Tess and Maria definitely go clubbing together because I love them as best friends)

im thinking the first time, tess drags maria to a bar she likes because she’s been trying to get the attention of this hot dilfy guy at the bar, but he’s always tailing along with his friend. by tess’s design, maria and tommy meet and and hit it off and dance (to maria maria by santana) the night away. they fall in love and decide they want to go home together, so maria goes to the bathroom—but joel randomly comes up and is like “tommy, hey sorry selena’s mom called, sarah had a nightmare and she wants us both to pick her up, we gotta go” and in true miller dad-uncle panic they BOLT. by the time maria comes back, tess is like “idk dude, mine got a call so they had to go. seemed like an emergency. bummer” and they assume thats that

on the flip side: everythings okay with sarah, but after tommy and joel tuck her in tommy’s suddenly just like “fuck—fuck!!!!!” and joels like “what? what???” and he’s like “i didn’t get her number :(:(:(:( fuck” and so joel’s like “it’s okay, i see her friend there all the time” and so tommy’s like “omg :D do you have her friends number?” “well… no” “joel… what the fuck man.” so they make a plan to go back next week with the hopes of at least seeing tess and getting maria’s number from there—tommy also wants to get tess’s number for joel, but he doesn’t need to know that

little do THEY know, tess and maria are already plotting for next weekend. they show up to that bar looking fine as FUCK—they quite literally turn heads walking through the door. of course the miller brothers are there, sitting in a booth all the way in the back and waiting, making eyes. tess and maria are not shy, so they start making their way over. unfortunately, some drunk asshole decides to try to get handsy with tess on her way there—which results in her punching him in the face, which results in him trying to punch her in the face. she dodges, of course, but it starts a full-on bar brawl that the miller boys jump into without hesitation (joel manages to tackle and land a few good ones on og drunk asshole too so. slay.). none of them get arrested or anything, but they definitely don’t get eachother numbers on account of joel and tommy having to duck the cops

i'm bad at watching shows but i'm interested in their characters/plots so i've decided to try and guess canon based off of reading a bunch of fanfics. so far i don't think i'm very close because it's something my sister has watched and the characters i keep reading about are like. the sidest of all side characters. but i will find canon somewhere

#i cannot sit down and watch something i can cook and listen to something i can draw and listen but i cannot sit and watch #so i am bad at the tv shows #but words i can get into #they should like. convert shows into words so i can read them instead #which is why i have chosen fanfiction #you may wonder why i chose fanfiction of all things? surely there's a summary? #well u see i believe it is much more entertaining to uncover canon through different interpretations of characters and how they're explored #and tbh i care more about characters in these cases than the plot. though i love plot i'm just more interested in characterization #bc plot is good and all but if you're characters suck then no-one cares #and in fanfiction people often play with characterization and explore them in ways that can go beyond canon #i'm trying to find the heart of these characters based on the way people write them #and even when characters are heavily changed for an au there will have to have been something to inspire that change #and i must decide if it's projection from the author or coincidental or there is a deep-seated reason that that character was altered #and i besides reading fanfic where you have no idea what's going on is pretty fun ngl #obviously i will need to read a lot of fanfic for sample size or whatever but i will get there and then i will double-check w my sister #to see how correct i can get it #she's more of a casual enjoyer of things so idk if my characterization focus will resonate or not but eh idc

#tbh this year has taught me that I really am a leader #like leadership is 100% where I really shine and I’m damn good at it #getting more involved with my community has been so amazing and really restored my confidence in myself and my joy for life #like being on the exec board of the psych grad student association has let me make so many cool little differences #I came up with the idea to have my friend come give a talk to our department bc she’s a post doc about to be on the job market #and her talks are kick ass!!! it’s about how to merge feminism with psychology and how to incorporate lesser known research methods #and so I just finished booking her today!!! I get to help a friend AND my community gets an amazing talk!! win win! #my work as a representative on the biological sciences council is going strong and I sent out an inquiry about finding a new rep to join us #and the open letter I sent to my department regarding a lot of drama didn’t just end there #I came up with reasonable changes to the department that could prevent the drama that was caused and brought them to dept leadership #to make things even better I personally reached out to the opposite side and asked to get coffee for us to discuss the recent drama #as a chance for us to mend bridges and align ourselves with concrete goals and making things better #rather than being in opposition to one another #like this year was supposed to be low key. I took on very low effort exec board positions and tried to center other students #but even with that being said I still just. I'm seeing a lot of people say that punk fashion is expensive and inaccessible, which is very wrong. here is a list of some ways you can make punk fashion easier, cheaper and more accessible for you, since that's... kinda the whole point.

others are encouraged to add onto this!! (just don't recommend corporations like amazon. not cool.)

1. patches!! you don't need to buy them. DIY patches are not ugly or boring. in fact, they are encouraged here!! DIY, in my opinion, is always the best thing to do when it is an option and is safe to do so.

2. speaking of DIY, spikes!! you can make them!!

cut the top and bottom off of an empty can. cut down the middle of the cylinder and flatten it, so it's just a flat rectangle of metal.

cut out a shape that is kind of a third of a circle, but around 3/4 of the curved edge is taken up by triangle shapes. (I'm not very good at describing, so here's a badly drawn picture)

roll it into a cone, leaving the 4 triangles sticking out at the bottom. this bit is optional, but you can fill it with hot glue to make it more sturdy, just be careful touching the hot metal. I tend to hold the cone by one of the triangles with a bit of fabric wrapped around my fingers for this bit. cut 4 small holes in your fabric in this kind of shape:

and put the spiky bits of triangle through the holes. fold the triangles in on themselves to secure the spike in place. boom. spike obtained. this is one I made and attached to a little piece of fabric to test this method out:

3. battle vests!! (like the base jackets). the best places to buy these are charity shops and second hand websites in my opinion, but if anyone else knows any better options, please reblog with those!!

a good trick I find works well on eBay is to filter search results to your country (or state? can you do that in the US? idk) so that a: fast delivery because local, and b: all the sellers of everything that shows up are in YOUR TIME ZONE.

why is this important? when people sell something for really cheap, it goes FAST. check eBay at like, 2am or something. all the scalpers in your area are asleep. grab the cheap stuff while they can't.

4. sewing!! want patches, but can't sew for whatever reason? I've heard of a lot of people with joint conditions like arthritis complain about the inaccessibility of patch stuff, and that does sound extremely annoying, however:

safety pins!! while they are still a little fiddly, they're much less work so you don't have to fiddle about for long. if you can, you could even ask a friend to help, since it doesn't take long at all I'm sure someone will be willing to help out!! (I know I would, but that's just me, and I love this kind of thing). safety pins on clothes are also widely considered to be a symbol of solidarity, so if anything, you're adding some extra love and meaning to your patch pants/battle jacket.

if that's still too fiddly, fabric glue is always an option. unfortunately this means you won't be able to remove/reposition patches, at least without leaving a massive patch of residue, but if you're ok with that then fabric glue is probably your best bet.

for people who prefer sewing: as for where to get the thread, I've heard a lot of people recommending dental floss, as it's apparently much cheaper and works just as well. I haven't tried this myself so can't confirm that, but I thought I'd share it regardless.

5. where to get fabric!! old clothes. rip em up. you don't need any kind of fancy fabric from the craft store. my patches are made of old jeans that I grew out of.

don't have any old clothes and you don't want to waste any good ones? I'm not sure about other countries, but in the UK, as long as you're not on private property (trespassing), dumpster diving is perfectly legal.

I definitely ;) do NOT encourage ;) trespassing rich people's land ;) to steal from their dumpsters ;)

or tbh it doesn't matter too much how rich the person is, since it's all going to landfill anyway. if it's in the bin, it's free game, but you didn't hear that from me. ;)
