world, meet lars. lars, meet world. he’s ... going through it right now. not a lot of things have gone right for him.

he’s the youngest of five in a strictly evangelical household. everything was about rules and if he didn’t abide by them, he’d be punished. he remembers getting hit with switches and belts and wires. he’d be locked in prayer closets and forced to confess his sinful thoughts. he recited every word of scripture, was slain in the spirit, proselytized to all of his friends, and he got nothing but fear and anger out of it --- it was all very ... carrie, but without the promises of superpowers.

when he started going to a secular public high school his entire viewpoint shifted. he made friends who snuck him into rated r movies to watch him squirm at things he’d never heard of before. he started smoking cigarettes, smoking grass, failing classes, and playing sinner’s music on his guitar. strict parents make sneaky kids, he used to be able to all of this in his church clothes.

after high school lars stopped talking to the rest of his family. he rented an apartment with his friends for a two year stint at community college ( he was an automotive specialist major ) and started a band with them in silver lake once he graduated. he never really wanted to talk about girls or stare at nudie magazines like the rest of them, no. he just wanted to make music. until he met margo and his life fell apart.

he only started to date her because it felt right and she promised to take care of him. no one else has ever made the effort to take care of him --- he’d been locked in closets and hit with willow tree branches for the duration of his adolescence. he just wanted comfort.

after he met her, she was the only thing on his mind outside of his band. it wasn’t love, though, even if that was what he thought it was. everything seemed perfect. it all seemed like a normal he could get used to. until she got pregnant and they weren’t ready. she was 24, he was 25, they were both fucked. this was the beginning of the end of them.

click ... click ... click ... boom ! shotgun wedding. as soon as he signed that paper he felt that straight man ball and chain around his ankle. he felt regret, he felt guilty, and, at first, an eighteen year weight stacked atop his shoulders. what more could he do other than ... grin and bear it.

he stopped talking to his friends, who were all busy having fun and playing music and doing everything he wanted to do and more. separating himself from the men he loved most, even if he didn’t want to say it, made him bitter. he stopped doing gigs to make more mechanic money. after the birth of his first daughter, yael, his life was boring and monotonous. five years down the line, margo threw out her birth control pills without letting him know. this was how his second kid, ruth, was brought into the world. it was also the straw that broke the camel's back.

the divorce was long and messy --- he’s glad his kids don’t really remember it too much. margo and lars ended up splitting custody with yael but because of the bullshit that came with ruth, she’s all his. he started meeting up with his friends for gigs again, rediscovering his passion for music. and also drugs. he’s reclaiming the youth he lost when he started dating margo, even though it’s a little weird. he’s happy but he’s not fulfilled, and his kids could see that, too.

the process ruined him financially, enough for the bank to foreclose his home only a few months after the split. he filed for bankruptcy, destroyed his credit score, and moved into a seedy two bedroom apartment ( which isn’t cheap in the city of angels ) that managed to be just a few blocks down from where one of his old friend lived. he came out while lars was married and he didn’t know until he saw the flag hanging in the window. he was curious about it, but we all know what that did to the cat.

lars doesn’t want to be gay, but everything he does makes him feel like he is. the way he talks, the way he sits, the way he cries while watching the notebook --- he knows these are all stereotypes now, but what would his younger self think ?? two kids, no money, AND he’s queer ?? he wants to push this all down, and he does, but he knows that it won’t do him any good either. he knows that everything will all implode, but that day isn’t today, and with any luck, it won’t be tomorrow. he’ll sit in his idea of normalcy until he can’t anymore.

lars loves his kids. like, a lot. when he was with margo he regretted them entirely but he doesn’t feel that way anymore. he wants what’s best for him, and he wants to give them everything his parents couldn’t give him. namely: love. he doesn’t want more kids, though. he’s saving up for a vasectomy.

he’s not a perfect parent, though. i wouldn’t even call him a great one because of how often he has to be away from them and how much he drinks his feelings. at least once a year he’ll go on a bender and he’ll have to pay a babysitter more than he can afford because of how long he’d be out for. now that his kids are old enough to pick up on these things, they’re becoming more and more concerned with his behavior. he can tell, it’s just another thing he’s trying to avoid bringing up. it’s just another thing that pushes him back to drink.

speaking of his kids. i love them. i love them just as much as i love lars. yael is fifteen and she’s a mini version of her father. when lars has the time, he teaches her to play the guitar on his old acoustic. she manages to make a’s and b’s and he could never be prouder, especially because he barely graduated high school himself. ruth, on the other hand, is an enigma and he doesn’t really understand her but he tries her best. she says a lot of things that ten year olds probably shouldn’t say, but he lets it slide because it’s funny. he’s had to raise her mostly by himself which has been a gigantic struggle for him, but it’s proving to be successful thus far. she really wants to be a teenager and she emulates teenagers to the best of her ability, but it’s what a ten year old thinks a teenager should act like, so it’s far from accurate. loves cleaning her room, though. it’s the most pristine part of their house and he has no clue why.

margo was jewish, so both of his kids are being raised jewish. he doesn’t really believe any of it himself, but his kids seem pretty happy. yael had a bat mitzvah and ruth is coming up on hers, but he has no idea how that’s going to work out because margo did 99% of the planning for yael and he doesn’t know how any of that shit works. ruth also decided that she wants to eat kosher now. she’s been like this for, like, a year and lars thought it would be a phase but at this point she’s in it for the long haul and there’s a pretty good chance she’s not going back on it.

when it comes to his sexuality ,,,, he has a lot of feelings. he acknowledges that being gay is a possibility but he’s definitely never thought enough about it to make a decision. at the same time, he’s hyper aware of anything that might make him seem gay so he dresses like a slightly grunge dad redneck and makes sure to never cross his legs when he sits down. despite all of this. he has had sex with men before. especially after margo. he fucked his gay friend, too. he doesn’t think they count because he was desperate. they count. don’t tell him.

he has five different guitars. the bulk of them sit in his closet, but he has names for all of them. they were his babies before his real babies. his first two were dr. jekyll and mr. hyde, an acoustic and an electric that took about six paychecks for him to finally buy. yael plays on dr. jekyll and he’s spent a lot of time thinking about how he wants to make it a family heirloom if she doesn’t smash it first. he got a white strat in college that he named angel because of how gorgeous she sounds. i'm gonna stop here because this bullet would be so fuckin long if i didn’t. i like guitars. he likes guitars. maybe i’m projecting. who knows ! not me.

it’s easy to assume that his band never really went anywhere. cause it didn’t. they play heavy, heavy, heavy rock and that’s incredibly out of the mainstream right now. their band, shit and sugar, did get a little bit of recognition in the local underground scene during the early 2000s. now they’re just older dudes that play in diy venues and bars sometimes. lars is pretty sure he’s been called a geezer a few times by teens yael’s age.

despite never really getting off of the ground in the music industry, he’s very good at what he does. there’s not a lot left for him to learn in terms of technique and his style of playing is very uniquely his. big inspirations for him include the likes of rivers cuomo, jimi hendrix, kirk hammett, and dimebag darrell.

all in all, he’s an extroverted ball of energy most of the time. he’s got a lot of ideas and he’s very goal oriented, even if he doesn’t end up achieving them. not the smartest tool in the shed, either. he’s childlike and playful in the best way possible. again, most of the time. this ends up biting him in the ass a lot. especially because of how impulsive he is.

wanted connections ! i’m definitely going to put one or two up on the main but here are a few that i think would work nicely.

people he met through music ---- even though people don’t know about shit and sugar you’d definitely recognize him if your character frequents local bars and DIY venues in sketchy basements. from friends to enemies, i think this one has a lot of breathing room for ~ creativity ~ and all that.

neighbors ---- he’s a guitarist. it’s a loud hobby. he’s nice to everyone in the complex, but god, that’s gotta get annoying.

men he fucked that “don’t count” ---- some of these could’ve ended seamlessly. maybe they get beers now. maybe your character hates him. maybe your character pities him for being in so much denial about his own sexuality. maybe your character is trying to help him. this connection has, like, no limit and all of the plots can be different and unique i’m so excited for it. he’s a bottom, if anyone was curious.

unlikely pals ---- this character is probably the exact opposite of a fuckup. god knows why they even associate with lars. but they do, and they want the best for him. hey !! maybe lars can break them out of their shell a bit.

potential romance ??? owo ??? ---- i really want this to happen because i want lars to eventually come to terms with his sexuality. all he wants is mutual love and good sex. safety, stability, all that good stuff. shouldn’t come without hardship, though. if you have a good idea make sure to make it angsty because i live off of that shit.

someone he doesn’t like ---- i thought of this one because it’s incredibly hard for lars to not like someone. he finds amazing qualities in most people, but he’s prone to holding grudges. i want a character who he just can’t see any good in filling this connection. how fun would that be, right ??

a jewish friend that helps him out with his jewish kids ---- i’m the knowledgeable jewish friend in 99.9% of my friend groups. most people don’t have a knowledgeable jewish friend out of necessity, but he definitely needs one because he doesn’t know shit about some of the things his kids talk about. i swear, ruth mentioned how eggs are pareve and he short circuited please help this poor dude out.

alright, well today was all around pretty good. I was bad and did not get out of bed when my alarm went off at 9:30, and slept until like 11:38 instead...lol, whoops. so I did as much bar prep as I could before my 2 pm PT appointment. PT was fine, one of the world cup games was on the tv so most of us were watching and discussing that. My PT guy and me are trying to figure out where to go from here, it seems like my back gets aggravated on days when I’m out and doing things, but not so much when I’m staying in all day studying, which of course isn’t a terribly realistic situation for any period of time beyond something like this. At the end he did mention that something that has helped other female patients with back pain was to get a breast reduction and I was like........idk how to feel about this. Like has it occurred to me that starting to get back pain at 24 years old might be related to my somewhat oversized chest? Yes, of course. Is that something I want to do to treat it? eh.....I don’t know. I already have really shitty body image issues and I feel like going into something like that without really knowing how I would look when I came out would be a big risk to take and idk if I want to do that. So idk, I guess I’ll think about it. From PT I took an uber because it was gross and rainy to the apple store, where I had an appointment to get my screen replaced since it was tragically shattered Sunday when I was heroically rendering aid to my injured baby sister (or something like that) so that was going to take like an hour, there were some stores around but like, I knew if I went to them I would just spend money on things I didn’t need, and if I went into the Carter’s that was right there I would just spend a bunch of money getting my nephew and my friend’s baby girl way more clothing than they need because it’s all so damn cute, so I opted to stay inside the store for the time being. I looked at the different phone models for a while, trying to determine if there were any real differences between the iPhone 7 and 8, and of course the X is the full screen thing, which I’m not sure how I feel about, I’m sure I would get used to it once I had it but it wasn’t terribly easy to use just looking at it. So from there I went to one of the giant Mac displays they had on the wall that people can use, so I was a bum and brought up my twitter account because I can’t deal with being cut off from my twitter feed even for an hour 😂 so I spent a while on there then eventually just sat on a bunch by the entrance for the rest of the time. I had brought a pair of jeans with me to change into for the party tonight instead of wearing my sweatpants from PT, so shortly before my phone was going to be ready I ran to the bathroom and switched my pants, then grabbed the phone and ubered to the retirement party for my old boss. It was super convenient because the riders before me were getting dropped off like exactly where I was, so legit like they just got out and I went in with the door never closing lol. I wasn't sure what to expect about the place it was at, it was a “lounge” but I mean, that can mean a lot of different things. They were checking IDs at the door, so I just let them check mine even though I wouldn’t be drinking, just easier that way. the party was on the second floor, which was a nice sectioned off space with a bar and some food and some mini tables, and many people milling about. My boss worked at the office for almost 30 years, so pretty much the whole office was there, plus the judge from the courtroom he was assigned to, and the two former public guardians along with the currently acting one, so plenty of familiar faces were there. My legal drafting prof who used to work there was there, and I at least traded hellos with everybody else I knew but she seemed very pointedly trying to avoid acknowledging me, and I mean whatever lady you do you I don’t really care 😂 at one of the first tables was the receptionist/support service guy who I’d been kinda flirty with last summer and left the office with his phone number, and we chatted a few times and then kinda just faded out. But I claimed a spot next to him at the table and pretty much stayed there for the rest of the night lol. We talked about a lot of stuff, apparently the office is going to be in need to hire attorneys very soon, because they just had a LOT of attorneys leave (I think they said upwards of 20, which is like, 1/5th of the office) so I will definitely be looking out for that, I don’t want to be overconfident but if they are hiring for an entry level position I think it’s fairly likely I’d be able to get it, they hire a lot of their law clerks, half the people who work there told me they clerked there during law school, and I know I have 3 semesters worth of glowing performance reviews because I worked my ass off for 3 semesters making sure I went the extra mile and got everything right. So that would honestly be a lifesaver, because they were always going to be my first choice, but they’ve been in a hiring freeze for years now so they never really came into play, but if they’re hiring it’s a game changer. I know I have to hash out with my parents what exactly my plans are for the next few months at least, because I’m very worried that if I end up taking the Illinois bar I’m going to end up being very unprepared. I mean, the substantive stuff is gonna be the same, so it can’t really be that different, but still, they have separate courses for separate reasons, and the bar is only 4 weeks out now (which is terrifying). So I know I need to figure that out very soon. But the party was fun, they had some good food including some heavenly poutine, and I got to talk to a lot of people I knew. It was funny, because when I worked under him like everybody else in the office I talked to was like “oh, he was my first supervisor when I worked here!” and he’s just honestly the sweetest most hardworking guy who often says and truly believes that he had the best job in the world, because we’re able to help children who can’t help themselves, and we even get paid for it where I’m sure many of these people would be here even without pay. I really liked that because it’s very much how I feel about the situation and where I want to be with all of this, so if this job works out I’m gonna be very pleased. Of course I have to go back to 7 am wake ups 5 days a week, but thankfully this time I won’t be cripplingly depressed so that won’t be such a big issue. When I was chatting with people my boss introduced me to one guy and said he was handling the appeal on the child death case I had worked with my boss, and that kind of peaked my interest, because not all that many people appeal, and I mean, they had a pretty open and shut case. So I asked who was appealing and he said all three parents (mom, dad of the oldest 3, and dad of the twin babies) were, which is kinda ridiculous being that mom is in jail still for everything they could convict her on, which for some reason did not include a homicide charge, and I don’t think I will ever be over what a gross miscarriage of justice that is when dozens of similar cases (child neglected to the point where they starved to death) got murder charges. It’s just not fair. This sweet little boy deserved better. He deserved justice, not a minor penalty for “arson” because they lit his body on fire. Whenever I get frustrated and disillusioned about what I’m doing with my life I look at my wall where I have a picture of Manny, and it never fails to stiffen my resolve, because I never got to meet this sweet little boy, but there are so many other children out there like him that may end up dying at the hands of their parents that we can stop. How could I not throw everything in my life towards that? If the system is going to be broken (as it is), well then I’m going to be the one to fix it, even if it takes a lifetime. I’m rambling, I know, I just get emotional about that case. But anyway, back to the party, I spoke with the guy for a few minutes about how awful the case was and how it must’ve been even worse on the trial level than the appellate level. He said he “wasn’t worried” about it which I think is a very fair assessment. It all just reminded me of when I was in the first interview for the NYC job back in December and I was talking about working on the case and arguing a motion and this guy is just staring at me like I have two heads, and was like “......they let you do that?????” And I just kinda smiled and said that my boss had a lot of faith in me, and he did, and I think that sums up what kind of leader he was. There was a time of people talking and sharing stories which were all very nice. I ended up heading out around 8, receptionist guy (I do know his actual name, I forgot it at first but found it in my contacts) walked with me to the bus stop I was going out from, apparently his home was in the same direction lol. He has really nice eyes and eyelashes, and we spent a lot of the time at the party being low key flirty and like, even if this ends up being just nothing it was at least a good time. I had to switch buses, so I did that and had to wait for like 10 minutes for the next one to show, but at least it wasn’t either dreadfully hot or freezing out. Once I got home I jumped right back into my bar lecture because I know I needed to get that done, and I ended up with less than an hour (out of 4) left on it when I stopped a little before midnight. Tomorrow I’m gonna have to make a quick Target run at some point to pick up a prescription and get refills of my CO2 bottles for my sodastream, since I’m almost all the way out of those. I’m hoping to keep the trip short though (I may just uber there and back to save the hassle of timing multiple transit vehicles to work into a workable timeline). But other than that I’m going to be studying the rest of the day and hopefully knock out a good chunk of the work. It’s now past 2 am and I am quite tired, so I think I will be getting to bed and hopefully falling asleep at this time. Goodnight my loves. Happy Friday.

Basically, please can someone advise me on a supermoto for a first time rider with relatively low insurance that cost about 2000 to buy, 2500 maximum. I really like the supermoto style, and its fairly cheap for my friend, I have a 19 year old friend with a modified supermoto YZF250 and pays only 400 per year. I think he has been riding since he was 17. I am clued of on cars and fairly knowledgeable of engines, but I lack the knowledge of the names of different bike, so finding it tricky, I have decided to post this. Preferably I like the idea of a small (cheap 125cc), but a single cylinder 4 stroke purely because of the noise, but if it has to be two stroke, I don't mind greatly. (Hopefully) I'll probably get a car of a maximum price of about 1000 because in reality I don't need anything fancier than that, the max engine size I'd consider would probably be 1.2 and I'd want my insurance to be such that I can use the car for work such as delivering pizzas or chineses etc. so I have more options trying to find a job atm. I'm just wondering what tips you people have? Could I realistically get insurance for 1500 (Max) or under on a 1000 (Max) car with a 1.2 (Max) Litre engine? I might have to borrow money off my parents and pay them back when I'm 18 if I pass a good few months before my birthday. I'm not coming here telling you to tell me where to get cheap car insurance, I hate questions like that lol cheap car insurance doesn't exist for 17 year olds because we're all boy racers Bla-bla-bla, it's head melting! I just want to use my car to drive to college (5 minute drive), possibly work in depending on if I get a job at this bar or not and drive to peoples' houses if I need to and other general driving. I'm not just going to drive it for the craic at 3am down the motorway doing 100mph, I couldn't be bothered with all that. All I want is tips to get it as cheap as humanly possible like what I should do about named drivers, voluntary excess and anything else that might drive down the price. When it comes to it I'll ring round every insurance company available to insure people in Northern Ireland and haggle them all quoting them against each other and hope for the best. Please don't tell me specific insurance companies to go for unless you know that they definitely include NI, a lot of them exclude us. P.S. I'm a sensible guy, I'm paying for it all by myself (as far as I'm aware) so spare me the irresponsible, kid, joy rider, inexperienced, spoilt comments that so often creep up in these areas. My mom and I have been checking around for cars to buy because I have a scholarship and one college class right now, and I need the transportation so that I can go to study sessions for the college class, and to the meetings for my scholarship. We really don't have a lot of money. I work but only on Saturday because of school. My mom has Progressive right now and she checked how much it would be to have me and a new car on the insurance and it is a whopping $500 a month (her, her truck, me, and my car included).. We need an insurance company that isn't going to cost us a 1/4 of our income. At first we were looking at older cars under $2500. Then my mom was thinking it would be better to get me a new car with good gas mileage so she wouldn't have to worry about me being safe and not breaking down on the side of the road... But we can afford a new car, not with our down payment. The monthly payments are too high. So now we are going back to the older cars, and if we have a fully paid for vehicle, I am sure the insurance won't be as high. But here it, I am 16 years old, took driver's ed and have an insurance waiver that is supposed to bring the insurance down 10%. I also have good grades, a scholarship, a job, etc.. These things should look good to the insurance and bring the cost down.. I am safe driver as well.. Not driving far daily at all. Why did my lawyer tell the car insurance company to pay PIP directly to me when I asked to have my bill paid?

I spoke to my auto insurance company because my lawyer took two months to file my personal injury protection claim. Once, I took action into my own hands then I was assured that the woman handling my case from my car insurance company would see that my PIP paid for my medical expenses because I don't have health insurance. However, another month has passed and I have heard nothing from my lawyer about my case even though I call his office every week. So, today I received a letter in the mail from my lawyer office to my claim insurance person. It has her name on it but my address so I am not sure if it was intentionally sent that way or not. Yet, I read over it and it tells my insurance claim to pay the PIP directly to me and not to the medical company. What do I do about this? Has anyone gone through something similar and can you give me some helpful advice? I don't know if my lawyer is trying to add my PIP with the rest of the money that I will get so he can get a bigger chunk or if he is trying to get my PIP to me instead?
