Prompt of Fic: Your Midterms are approaching and since you've transferred, you've made alot of friends from rich to poor. One of your friends, Stelle invited you to study at her house and there you ran into her Mom whom you've had a couple of encounters with and some how you ended up in her bed at the end of the day.

Three weeks have passed since your encounter with a redhead someone. She hasn't left your mind since and surely you wanted more but how can you face her? Was it fear? Maybe it wasn't. Maybe it was just the fact that you'd get too flustered just by seeing her face; remembering how fucked out it looked that night. You've received multiple calls and texts from her, but you couldn't bring yourself to answer them and besides, you have your midterms approaching which will work as the perfect excuse for not replying back to her.
"I really can't grasp accounts," March sighed dejectedly, her hands held tightly by Stelle. Out of all the friends you've made, March and Stelle were two of the closest ones and they've been there for you since you met them. You've had a few encounters with Stelle's mom, mostly because she had relations with the school board and because she's a CEO. The interactions with her were longer than expected because everytime she visits the school, you were assigned to her for the day, offering your assistance whenever she needed and acting as a tour guide for her. Something about her made you feel slightly flustered and small. Her intimidating gaze never failed to make you shrink and her captivating smile was one you could never deny.
"Do you wanna come over to my place? The three of us could study together." Stelle suggested. March smiled and so did you. Stelle's place was enormous and comfortable and compared to the house you're renting, it's much more convenient as well.
Stelle's driver- Blade, came to pick you up. If Blade was here, that means Stelle's mom was home. A slightly uneasy feeling started to stir up within you. "You okay there? You look a little pale," March placed her hand on your head. You shook your head no before smiling.
"I'm fine March." Stelle looked at you in a way that made you think she didn't believe you before she went to her car and soon followed you and March. The drive to Stelle's house was peaceful. Small conversations were exchanged back and forth between you three and soon after, you arrived at her large house. Blade opened the door and led you three into the house where the maids were running about doing work. He continued leading you until you stopped at a big door that was labelled "Office".
"This is your mom's office?!" March exclaimed. Stelle nodded enthusiastically, a proud smile beaming her face. With a deep breath, you walked into her office was Blade went in first and informed Kafka of your arrival.
As you entered, you started to feel uneasy and flustered. Kafka was wearing a white Button up shirt with the first three buttons undone. Her glasses was on the bridge of her nose and her hair was tied loosely in a pony tail. "Mom! I'm home. I've brought some friends to study with." Kafka took her attention off the screen and looked at her daughter with a smile. She took off her glasses and got up.
"Welcome home Stelle and her little friends. I'm a bit occupied at the moment so please make yourself comfortable." She hugged Stelle, then March and lastly you.
"My~ you've grown a bit since the last time y/n~" when she hugged you, you felt her run her hands all over your back making goose bumps raise on your skin.
"T-thank you miss K-kafka.."
"Oh dear, I told you to drop the 'ms'. You're making me feel older than I already am," she chuckled as she let you go. You took a good look around her office, admiring the art works she had mounted on her walls.
"You kids head on downstairs. I'll finish up some work and then I'll come down to help you all study okay."
With her last statement, you all made your way downstairs. The maids placed snacks and drinks in the study area and you took a seat on the comfortable couch. "Now this is the life!" March exclaimed as she relaxed in the couch. "Having maids do everything for you while you get to relax is amazing!" Stelle chuckled at her girlfriend's enthusiasm.
The three of you began studying and an hour later, Kafka came down and helped you guys. She explained all the concepts the three of you didn't understand and made sure to break in down into smaller details. All that studying made you kinda sleepy so you excused yourself and headed to the bathroom.
Splashing some cold water on your face didn't help you one bit and as you were about to exit, Kafka walked in with a loose robe. "Are you alright deary?" She asked, a bit of teasing in her voice.
"I-I'm fine m-Kafka... I'm just kinda sleepy is all."
"Sleepy eh?" She walked inside the bathroom and looked the door before corning you up against the wall.
"I got something to keep you awake for a good amount of time~"

What’s Jayfeather and Alderheart’s relationship like in your au? I always imagined Jayfeather choosing to tutor one of his siblings after Hollyleaf, Cinderheart, and Lionblaze kind of did and he realizes five days later he was mislead into thinking this would be fun but now he just has a little 13 year old on his hands. But I don’t know how well that translates to another time period

kinda! i think with how the timelines overlap a lot closer (to make sure that characters are within reasonable age differences between each other) alder and his sister were born earlier and are only just barely younger than ivy/dove, so jay/lion/holly’s childhood overlaps with alder/spark’s a little bit. i’d say with squirrel’s fertility issues (probably PCOS or some other unspecified reproductive disorder) they probably have a pretty significant age difference but not to the same degree as the books where jay was a grown ass adult (theres a 5 year difference between them in canon! that means he wouldve been like fucking 35 or so human yrs LMFAOO) by the time alder was born. maybe 10 yrs at the most. dandelion and juniper were born between that but unfortunately didnt survive long

as for their relationship, they were pretty okay. jay was probably fresh into college by the time alder got diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. squirrel/bramble probably pressed jay about it but he dismissed them because he was still a student at the time and nowhere near a professional yet. alder idolized jay a lot growing up because he “didn’t let his disability hold him back”. there qas a lot of inspiration porn type of thinking on alder’s end and honestly the rest of the family kinda perpetuated it as well so its not just him. its not intentional either but yknow. at a certain point (and a lot of long conversations and arguments between the two about it) alder stops idolizing him to such an unhealthy degree and doesn’t fall into the ‘if my disabled brother can do xyz then i have 0 excuses’ line of thinking as much as he used to. while alder isnt the biggest fan of jay trying to psychoanalyze him mid-argument, he takes his word into consideration anyways
jay likes to say he thinks alder is irritating (in the younger sibling kind of way) but honestly spark was worse than alder when she was a teenager. jay just interacted with alder more since he was quieter and less overstimulating, especially when in the Deepest Pits Of College Homework Hell. also hes bluffing he really does enjoy alder’s company. he’s hard on him because he wants the younger to succeed, evem if hes a bit mean about it sometimes.
alder eventually becomes a pharmacist instead of a psychologist, finding the work of the former much more attuned to his needs and his likes. he’s still helping people. by the 2010s-2020s, he’s even filled and compounded a few medications jay prescribed to his patients!

As both a speech-language pathology student and someone with what's known as a lateral lisp (more on that in a minute), I rarely see characters like me and my students portrayed, or portrayed well, so here's a quick look at writing a character with an articulation disorder. A warning that this is going to be a long post.

What is an Articulation Disorder?

An articulation disorder is a disorder where a sound or sounds are affected and changed in some way (distorted, deleted, substituted, etc).
This is not to be confused with a related disorder known as a Phonological disorder. Phonological disorders are when sound related rules are affected.
A sound, in articulation disorders, can be substituted, deleted, inserted, or distorted. Substituted means instead of sound "a" they say sound "b" (wose instead of rose). Deleted means they get rid of sound "a" and skip to the next part of the word (ose instead of rose). Inserted means a sound is added (ruh-ose instead of rose), and distorted means the sound is off but not completely one of the other categories.
Specifics of Articulation Disorders

There are two common sounds related to simple articulation disorders - "r" and the lisps. A thing to understand about "r" is that there are two types of "r" that can have errors - "r" with a vowel and without a vowel. Another important thing to understand is that each sound comes at a certain age and "r" is the last sound to come for most children, meaning that a 4-year-old who can't say "r" is not disordered and has a possibility of learning to say it later without intervention (although intervention and assessment are always preferred sooner rather than later). Again, though, articulation disorders can be any sound or group of sounds.
What are the lisps?

There are 4 kinds of lisps - we'll start with interdental (the stereotypical "th" for s and z - "have you theen my thlipperth?" usually assigned to a nerd or intellectual character) and the lateral lisp (air leaks out the sides and "s" can become "sh" - "can you pash me the notesh for clash?") There are two other types as well but we can come back to them later.
I'm largely skipping through phonological disorders, as they can be more difficult and there are too many of them to discuss in a short post without that being the entire post!

This next section is more fun - looking at my own experiences and opinions as someone with an articulation disorder.
What to add

There are aspects to a speech sound disorder/articulation disorder that I think is very important to keep in mind that seldom are. The biggest one is that a person with an articulation disorder that impacts them enough is going to have ways to get around their disorder outside of receiving speech therapy. This can include avoiding words that prove difficult and words with certain sounds (I know that "ss" in the middle and end of words is a problem so I may avoid it around people that I think would tease me for it). They may be silent during conversations or class for fear of embarrassment. They may use their body more, like pointing or gesturing to things.
Another important thing I would love to see is reactions to articulation disorders that are positive or even neutral - letting people repeat words until they get the sound right if they're able to or just letting it pass otherwise.
Stereotypes

There are only 2 types of articulation disorders:
Many people when they think of articulation disorders think of either an "r" substitution (rhotacism) or an interdental lisp. There are so many types of articulation errors a character can have, and for several reasons, from comorbid and related illnesses (such as neurological disorders and dysarthria) to no known reason (known as idiopathic) to structural reasons (my hypermobility makes my tongue too long, which causes air to come out the sides of my mouth).
Articulation disorders make a character less serious:
Often characters who are given an articulation disorder are the comic relief (Tiny Nose in the Owl House is an example of exaggerated rhotacism) and aren't allowed to be serious or leads because our voices and way of speaking are too "ridiculous". This leads me to my next point...
Articulation disorders make a character "stupid":
There's a myth that speech and intelligence are related, which harms not only people with speech disorders but mainly people with intellectual disability. There is no relation between speech sound disorders and low intelligence, but there is nothing wrong with low intelligence and there are absolutely people with speech sound disorders with low IQs* (which do not label all intelligence and have its faults) as well as people with high and average IQs.
Should you "write out" a speech sound disorder?

This is a complicated question with no specific answer. Many people would agree that it is jarring and unadvised to write out an accent or dialect, but a speech sound disorder is not a dialect. It may also be difficult for the reader to visualize and keep in mind the differences if it is not put down. However, very unintelligible dialogue will need to be adapted for or translated in some way in most scenarios and some readers may be annoyed by the stylization of writing out the errors. I would overall lean towards including it, for reasons mentioned and so the disability isn't one that's discussed but never shown or adapted for.
Why not call my character's speech sound disorder "severe" or "mild"?

This is a personal take from my time at a clinic but one that I personally think is really impactful. Especially for younger people reading or younger characters, hearing that their disorder is "severe" may be both alienating and insulting. It also often implies there's no getting better or growth, which is not true. There are better ways it can be phrased - the disorder is significantly impacting them, or their intelligibility is significantly impacted, for example. As for "minor" or "mild" I try to avoid it because any disability can still impact the person - my lisp is relatively "mild" now after a while of using compensatory strategies and learning how to navigate but it still is impactful to me.
When writing characters who are less severely impacted by their disorders it may be more internal than anything else - others may not notice how much the character is compensating. This is going to impact their internal view and narration, however.
And that's another thing I want to stress - these disorders can run all kinds of ranges, from very impactful to barely noticeable. There is no one way to have a speech sound disorder - or a speech disability.

Note: i have made up a university for the purpose of the story. It made it easier than making up false things about other universities. In this the main character attends Garden State University in New Jersey. She's on the hockey team there.

New Jersey. The last place I thought I'd end up going to school. I thought I'd just follow Ethan to Michigan, that had been my plan for a long time. Sure, I'd have to deal with Ethan's overbearing self for another couple of years, but I would've survived.
That was what I would say whenever I was asked about what I was going to do for college. That was until Garden State University, home of one of the best NCAA women's hockey teams in the country, gave me a full ride. Suddenly all my plans changed, and my new home was New Jersey.
It didn't take long at Garden State for me to never want to leave, and going home for the summer was honestly kind of a bummer. And I counted down the days until I was headed back to campus for sophomore year.
As soon as I walk into the house that I was sharing with some of my teammates, I'm tackled into a hug.
"Oh my god, I missed you," Josie, one of my teammates and roommate, traps me in a bearhug so I can't move.
"I missed you too," I laugh. She finally lets me go so I can say hi to the other two who were waiting for their hugs.
"No Ethan here to terrorize you?" Ava, another teammate and roommate, asks.
"No, I told him he wasn't coming with me this year, because he gives me a headache, and I just spent far too much time with him for him to be in a car with me for more than twenty minutes," I say. Since our lease had started at the end of last school, a majority of my belongings were already in the house, so I didn't really have anything i needed to unpack, minus the few things I had already grabbed and brought inside with me.
"We were thinking we could go out for food?" Lindsey, my last roommate poses the question. "Obviously, we know you just drove for a really long time, so if you just want to go to bed we get it, but," She trails off. They want me to go, that's what that but means.
"Yeah, I'm in, but I'm not driving," I agree. "Give me like ten minutes to change out of this," I glance down at the sweat shorts and baggy sweatshirt I'm wearing. "And put these in my room, and I'll be good," I grab the couple of things I needed to unpack and head off to my bedroom.
------------
The couple of weeks that I had given myself to be back before classes started was not enough. I was not looking forward to classes starting again tomorrow. I was wishing I had given myself more time with my friends, because starting tomorrow, we had actual responsibilities again.
When Ava had suggested we all go out tonight, everyone had jumped on it, not wanting to think about classes starting back up in the morning.
The best part of the little hole-in-the-wall Mexican Restaurant we frequented? They didn't ID us, which meant 20-year-old me could drink a margarita with my chips and salsa and live in denial of school for a little while longer.
"Y/n," Josie's voice pulls me from my thoughts and my eyes snap over to her.
"What's up?" I ask.
"Is your brother dating anyone?"
"Ethan?" I confirm. She nods. I don't hide the disgusted look that takes over my face. "No, but he's disgusting," I point out.
"I hate to break it to you, but your brother is gorgeous, there are some seriously good genes in your family," Ava chimes in.
"Seriously, what the hell was in the water your parents were drinking, you and your brothers are so good-looking it's not fair," Lindsey agrees. I shrug not really having anything to say to that.
"If I dated your brother, would you be mad?" Josie changes the topic of conversation back to Ethan's dating life.
"No, but I'd feel bad for you," I snort. "He's so annoying," I put a chip in my mouth.
"When's he coming to visit?" She asks.
"Hopefully never, he gives me a headache," I say. She shoots me a look, she actually wants to know. "I don't know, he'll have hockey and so will we so honestly probably this fall at some point or in the spring, maybe both, I have no idea. But he'll come to visit at some point, he loves to do anything that annoys me," I answer her question. The conversation finally steers away from my brother and I excuse myself from the table to use the restroom.
I'm on my way back to our table when I hear someone say my last name. I look around confused before my eyes land on a familiar face. Ethan's old college teammate, Luke is staring back at me. We had only met in passing a couple of times, and it had been a little while since he and Ethan had been on the same team. I'm surprised he even realized who I was.
"Hey Luke," I offer him a small smile. I take a couple of steps so we're not such an awkward distance apart. "It's been a while," it's the first thing I think to say, and it sounds lame.
"Yeah," he nods in agreement, a small small on his lips. "How have you been?" He asks.
"Good, just school and hockey," I shrug my shoulders. Is anyone else feeling awkward? Or is it just me?
"Ethan mentioned something about you going to school here," he says. "Second year right?" I nod, not really knowing what I should say next. "Do you like Jersey?" He offers up another question. This was a painful conversation.
"I mean, I don't hate it, and I love Garden State," I finally feel like something I say doesn't sound awkward and weird.
"Did you get to do a lot of exploring and everything last year?"
"Not really," my cheeks turn pink. "I was either at hockey, in class, or doing homework, so I didn't do much, oh, and. I guess we're here a lot too." He's about to say something else when Lindsey appears.
"Y/n, there you are, we thought you ran away after all the talk about dating your brother," she doesn't seem to notice the very awkward conversation I'm currently participating in.
"No, just catching up to Luke," I nod towards the tall man, she just now seems to register is standing next to me. Her mouth forms an 'o' shape.
"Well, I'll let them know you didn't run away and you'll be back," she turns and walks back towards our table leaving me with Luke.
"Friends in love with your brother?" he looks amused.
"You have no idea," I laugh. "I should go," I nod in the direction that Lindsey walked. "They'll come looking for me again, they want all the details on Ethan's dating life," I roll my eyes. "Good to see you, Luke," I turn to leave but his voice has me stopping mid turn.
"Can I have your phone?" he asks. I raise a questioning eyebrow but hand over my unlocked phone. He clicks on a few things and then types something before handing my phone back. "If you ever decide you want to do more than just go to class and hockey, text me," he says. I glance down at the screen to see that he had added himself to my phone and sent himself a text.
"I might take you up on that," I don't hide the smile that takes over my face.
"Then I'll see ya around Edwards," he says to me. I just nod, before saying goodbye and heading back to my table.

everything happens for a reason.
to break or to build character, to test a person, to gauge a reaction. there's something expected from each choice made; there's something to learn from everything that happens.
there's been something like pulling in peter's chest for years now, when he really thinks about it. he was hooked from the very first time he saw you, wanting nothing more than to run up and introduce himself. his shy demeanor was in full-swing even back then, at the ripe age of seven; it took being seated together for the year for him to even wave.
peter parker can count the amount of interactions between the two of you on two hands (maybe three, if he includes eye contact made from across classrooms. and if he had three hands.) despite your proximity. your constant proximity. somehow, always at peter's worst.
like, for example, when you had asked peter for a copy of some notes when he had gotten caught in the rain the day before, thoroughly soaking his backpack and smudging the ink on every paper inside.
or the time when your family had moved into one of the houses down the street and you had watched peter's skateboard catch on a stray rock, sending him flying into the pavement and igniting aunt may's hatred for his board.
peter was always so constantly aware of you - which classes you shared, where your seat for the year was, how close your locker was to his.
despite his unwavering acknowledgement of your presence, you were practically a stranger.
sure, the two of you have talked. but the conversation has never really gotten past a "huh?" or a "sorry, i don't" from peter.
every single time, he's spent the rest of his day imagining different words coming out of his mouth, wondering if there was a certain string that would make you something more than acquaintances.
it was a code he couldn't crack.
10 years, six half-conversations, and a few smiles. that's all he's managed to accomplish.
but there's something that draws peter to you. your smile, your laugh overheard in the halls, the glimpses he catches of you leaving in a friend's car when he takes the trash out.
he can't get you out of his mind, especially not when you seem to be around every corner.
peter craves what he knows he can never have. the churn of his stomach and the signals in his brain telling him to run whenever you're around have made sure of that. you've taught peter parker that between fight or flight, he chooses flight.
but when peter wakes up with too much strength and a buzz in his body, something has changed - not just the ability to take out the faucet of his sink with a swipe of his hand.
he doesn't walk with his hood up in the hallways anymore, doesn't hunch to make himself seem smaller. he stands tall, back straightened, the air of something strange that he's never felt before surrounding him. peter thinks it may be confidence.
he hasn't been dosed with enough to go up to your door with flowers and movie tickets but he's at least able to work up the nerve to catch you after class.
there's clear surprise on your face as your eyes flicker to your friends, waiting for you, to peter - he's never been one to strike up a conversation with you.
"hey," peter begins a little breathlessly.
"hi, pete," you start, surprising yourself with the nickname. "peter. hello, peter."
to your relief, peter laughs. it's soft. it suits him. "hi. uh, how are you?"
the question takes you by surprise. you're not sure what you were expecting, but anything peter could've said would've taken you by surprise. you start to wonder if there's supposed to be something wrong. an answer peter is expecting.
"i'm... good!" you're laughing through your words. turns out, peter's wide smile is contagious. "how are you?" you're well aware of the t-minus six minutes you have to get to your next class but your legs don't make any move to walk away from peter.
"yeah, i'm also... good." adrenaline is coursing through peter, just like when he did impossible tricks and jumps in an empty lot. "i was... i wanted to ask you something."
"you already did," you joke.
"oh- yeah, well i mean... other than that," peter laughs. "i was gonna ask... if you wanted to hang out. i mean, not now. you have class. i have class."
"yes, we have class," you laugh. "so some other time."
"some other time," peter repeats.
"here." you tear out a piece of paper from a stray notebook in your bag and a pen, scribbling down your phone number as best you could before handing it to peter. "it's about time you asked, peter."
the warning bell rings and you're off, leaving peter stuck in his spot with a dumb grin on his face.
peter gets to class late but it's not enough to diminish the feeling that he's on top of the world, your words ringing in his ears. it's about time. have you noticed how long he's been on the bench, wishing he could make a move? his mind buzzes, wondering shyly if you've been thinking about him for as long as he's thought about you.
peter's only really brought back down when he accidentally shatters the back of the basketball hoop after taunting flash. who's idea was it to make it out of glass, anyway?
he's dragged by the ear when uncle ben completely embarrasses him in front of you - but at least his punishment is over. well, it'll be over after the suspension ends.
but peter feels like the world has it out for him as he holds his dying uncle in his arms, gunshot wound leaking warm blood onto him. he's crashing now, sobs racking his body as uncle ben goes still.
everything falls apart when the police hand over the sketch of the man suspected to have killed uncle ben and peter realizes it's his fault.
everything happens for a reason.
peter has gained something. but what did he lose?

Cats The Musical Autism Headcanons
because these kitties are autistic okay!! honestly i think all the characters can be autistic these are just the ones i have specific ideaz for :3
mungojerrie & rumpleteazer (cause the twins definitely share some traits lol)
- the talking talkers… they’re both hyper-verbal :) while their chattiness can sometimes help with their schemes (they like to engage a friendly policeman in conversation!) but usually they just talk cat’s ears off cause they like talking
- always up in each other’s space, these two have very little sense of personal space and are always grabbing each other’s shoulders/arms or leaning on each other, snuggling, or generally being close to each other
- both love jumping up and down or running around to stim! sometimes they link arms and run in a circle for minutes at a time just to get their energy out
- they’re pretty spontaneous when it comes to their heists, usually jumping into it before fully working out a plan, but both can get very upset when something goes wrong/doesn’t go their way
mungojerrie
- TERRIBLE with eye contact, he’s always looking at everything except the person he’s talking to. definitely adds to his kinda ‘shifty’ reputation
- loves oral stimming, usually chewelry or something of the sort, but will absentmindedly chew on p much anything in his reach (pens, plastic, teazer’s arm, etc)
- has poor volume control, tends to talk just a bit too loud or too quiet depending on the situation
- tends to accidentally interrupt/talk over others cause he doesn’t really understand their cues
rumpleteazer
- very touchy-feely… but only on her terms! she loves initiating snuggles hugs or play-fights, but if someone touches her when she’s not expecting/in the mood, she won’t hesitate to take a swipe at em (jerrie is usually the only exception)
- tippy-toe walks alllll the time. helpful for moving quietly when she needs to but will do it for no reason at all

- has very specific day to day routines (wakes up at a specific time, visits the junkyard on specific days of the week, etc) gets really frustrated and stressed if they’re interrupted or changed
- he’s a house-cat, but refuses to wear a collar (he hates how it feels)

- didn’t speak for a long time growing up, but at like age 4 (in cat years) suddenly started speaking in full sentences. demeter was very surprised
- has a (terrifying) habit of slipping into this wide-eyed hundred yard stare when she zones out. it took a while for everyone to get used to that
- very sensitive to lights and colors, she’s the first to notice when the light shifts ever so slightly, and too-bright lights or colors are very overstimulating for her
- doesn’t like being touched except by her moms and sister (demeter & bomba and electra, respectively) and even then only in certain moments
- special interest is the night sky, she knows all the names of the constellations and can tell you the phase of the moon on any given night

Summary: Minho and you have been best friends for years. He decides to cook for you to cheer you up on a dreary day.

You sat looking out of your bedroom window that faces the busy street just a few feet below. It had been raining all day which ruined your plans to go out with friends that afternoon and have a picnic.
A little somber you leaned forward to rest your head against the cool glass. Your eyes watching the people bustling about below. Some beneath umbrellas, some facing the heavy raindrops head on. Just then your eyes catch sight of a man walking across the street towards your building.
He was carrying a few large bags and had a very familiar maroon hat on, shielding a good view of his face but you already knew exactly who it was. Your best friend Minho. You excitedly got up and hurriedly walked to your front door before he even had a chance to appear.
It only took a few minutes and here he came. When he saw you standing in your door way a sweet smile spread across his face causing you to smile in return. “What are you doing?” You ask as he steps passed you with a quick kiss to your cheek and heads right for your kitchen.
“Well plans got canceled so I decided to bring the picnic to you.” Minho glanced your way, his smile returning once again when he caught your eye. You walked over to him and began to help him unpack things.
There were all kinds of yummy fruits and veggies. Noodles, spices, and meats. Broths and even a small container of sushi. “Are we going to have a feast? We’re cooking all of this?” You asked curiously and leaned your cheek on his shoulder as he was a bit taller than you.
Minho turned his catlike eyes on you, “no, you’re going to relax and I am going to cook for you. Dinner and desert and we are going to eat and drink some wine and just enjoying each other’s company.” You smiled and shrugged, “okay, I can definitely do nothing. I like watching you cook anyway.”
“Why, is it attractive?” Minho gave you a sexy little smirk but broke character with a small laugh when he couldn’t ignore the cringe any longer. You giggle and sit down across the small bar from him. “Maybe..”
You two made soft conversation while Minho cooked, the aromas of his work filling your tiny apartment quickly. You talked about friends and work. Just life in general. All the while you both were stealing lingering glances at one another. Blushing a bit deeper than usual whenever your eyes would meet. Like an unspoken language between you two.
Soon the food was ready and you helped him spread a blanket out in your living room. You both set out all the food and then you settled down on the floor as well. Minho came to sit beside you and he filled your plate for you then his own.
The sky began to open up and the rain poured down even harder making the atmosphere a bit more cozy. Minho raised his glass of wine. “So you know what today is?” He asked you. His dark brown eyes watching you curiously and a sweet smile tugging at the corners of his pouty lips.
You bit your bottom lip in thought, “um… Thursday?…” you giggled and shrugged your shoulders. “I’m not so sure, what is today?”
Minho pushed his bangs back from his face and leaned a bit closer to you. “It’s our three year anniversary as friends.” Your eyes grew wide in shock that he even remembered the exact day you two became friends. “Wow.. really?”
You felt a little guilty for not thinking of that but before you could say anything else he reached over and pushed your hair back gently so he could see your eyes better.
“And hopefully this year we can become more than just friends?” He asked softly. It was barely above a whisper as if he was suddenly too shy to speak. You instantly looked up with wide curious eyes. There was a soft pink blush blooming across Minhos cheeks as he kept eye contact with you waiting for your answer.

Elvis has always had a taste for younger girls and their chatty personalities but when his head did a whole 180 after laying eyes on a matured gal like you that is more quiet and not as chatty, he learnt what his real taste is.
His family knows you from living in the apartment next door and they adore how friendly of a person you are. His mama would often praise you during family dinners to his daddy and him which usually he would get embarrassed about her rambling on about girls that could be a potential partner for him but now getting to hear about what you said during a conversation you had with his mama, he didn’t say a thing.
Even though he sees you with his mama quite often, he doesn’t know a lot about you. He knows you came from a privileged family in Texas and when you graduated highschool, you moved to Memphis when you were 22 to have a fresh start into adulthood but that’s all he really knows from what his mama told him.
He finds you very pretty and your laugh and smile are so contagious but the thing that gets him almost trembling is how mature you look in those dresses you wear, it does…something to him.
Especially when he saw you from across the road as you were walking into the building complex you two live in, wearing that red halterneck dress with cherries on it.
His bottom lip just couldn’t help but fly in between his teeth, those damn curves are something else.
He’s had quite a big crush on you ever since you moved into Lauderdale Courts and for a long time he thinks he wouldn’t have the courage to confess to you because he’s scared that you might get disgusted and shut him down or go off telling his parents to scold him for having such feelings for someone that they look so dearly as a close family member so to save himself from that humility, he’ll just watch you from afar.

“Nah, you guys can go on without me” his friends groan in disappointment, they asked him if he wants to go to a party with him but he’s already been to 5 in the past 2 weeks, he wants a break so with another shake of the head, he bids them a farewell and turns on his heel.
He hums quietly, he thought he would be running around Memphis for the night with his buddies for a bit of a laugh but he’s a bit disappointed to find out they want to go ogling at girls at a party over at someone’s parents’ house, knowing that the adults don’t know about what their kids are doing because of them being out of town.
It just leaves him the option of just walking back home and finding something interesting to do there.
As he walks along the footpath with his hands in his pockets and head lowered down, he watches as his shoes lazily scrape along the concrete. He sighs out of boredom, he’s bored so what could he do when he gets home?
Just then when that question pops into his head, his ears perk up to the sound of a piano. Glancing out of the corner of his eye, he lifts his head towards the neon lit sign noticing he’s outside of a night club. Maybe he could go and have a bit of a listen to the music? he shrugs his shoulders.
Why not?
Quietly, Elvis scans his eyes around the dimly lit bar room, seeing only a few black middle aged ladies in their best attire, smiling and laughing with each other with dainty little glasses in their hands. It’s not as busy as he thought it would be.
Then as he hears a piano play again, he looks towards the sound and his breathing comes to a halt. You’re on stage with a microphone in your hand, he didn’t know you worked as a bar singer. He gulps as he sees you in that black sparkly cocktail dress and your hair flowing down your back. Good Lord.
Elvis shakes his head and realises he might be staring too much so clearing his throat, he glances around to find a seat.
He sits at a two person table and decides to keep his head lowered, he might embarrass himself somehow, he doesn’t know how but it’s better being safe than sorry but as Elvis presses his lips together, the gravity pull of your voice through the speakers just demands him to look at you.
Is he gonna be able to look away?
“Alright, ladies and gentlemen.. The song I’ll be singing for you tonight is a song that I have always called a favourite when I was little…and it goes something like this” you chime with a soft smile.
Oh that smile.
The piano starts the song off and as the bass soon follows after, the cheerful sounds of the song fills out the room. The first word you sing makes Elvis physically melt.
“I don’t want to set the world on fire”
You smile sweetly and the older ladies there cheer you on with “That’s my girl!” and “That’s right!”
“In my heart I have but one desire”
His eyes soften.
“I’ve lost all ambition, for worldly acclaim”
Elvis brings his arms up to rest on the table, grasping his hands together and looking at his hands to try to just listen to your voice.
“I just want to be the one you love…”
Oh your sweet fluttery voice
He really can’t look away.
As you sway your hips subtly and bring your hand up to rest on the pianist's shoulder, Elvis bites down on his tongue. Gliding across the stage you walk down the steps and onto the bar floor, Elvis’ eyes darting all over you from your jaw to your hips and down to your ankles.
He lets out a stiff sigh and leans back in his chair.
“I don’t wanna set the world on fire, honey”
You sing with a giggle, taking slow and elegant steps towards the bar where the other women are, yelling and giggling at your cheeky little smile.
Elvis’ hand twitching, he sighs again while he lifts his hand to drag down the bottom half of his face.
“I love you too much” you add, making the ladies whistle playfully.
Elvis doesn’t even notice how his leg is bouncing nervously under the table, all he can think about is his heart floating across the room to the palm of your hand for you to squeeze, break, just do anything with it.
“You see…way down inside of me”
His heart pumps loudly in his ears as you turn your head and look into his eyes, walking slowly towards him.
“Darlin’ I have only one desire….and that desire is you” His heart clenching in the softest way as you give him a happy smile, realising who he is.
The small thumps from your heels make him hold his breath, sensing you walking behind his chair, a shiver drips down his spine as you place your hand on his shoulder.
Feeling you bend down over his shoulder, he lets out a small breath through his slightly parted lips.
“And I know…nobody else ain’t gonna do”
His chest almost stutters as he breathes in, your soft, sultry voice sending ticklish waves into his ears and into his brain. Feeling your warm breath lingering below his ear onto his neck, his hands adjust over the center of his pants.
“Did you like that, Presley?”

I wrote a book, but my novel is dragging way too long. What's the best way to determine what needs to get cut?
Fixing a Dragging Novel
#1 - Make sure your conflict is clear.
Every story should revolve around a conflict. The action of your story is created by the protagonist's attempt to resolve that conflict by pursuing a goal. Sometimes when stories drag, it's because there is no conflict or because the conflict is weak, leading to a meandering plot. (see: Understanding Goals and Conflict)
#2 - Consider your novel's structure.
Even character-driven novels have structure, meaning there are typical story beats and plot points that need to occur. As with plot-driven and combination stories, there are many different potential structures you can use. You can also follow a structure loosely (taking only what works and discarding what doesn't) or combine what you like from multiple structures. What matters is that it works for the story you want to tell, and that it helps you hit the natural points of a good story.
#3 - Consider your balance of action, exposition, and dialogue.
Stories should maintain a relative balance of action (things happening), exposition (explaining things), and dialogue (characters talking.) Ideally, every scene should have a relative balance, depending on the needs of the scene. If you have a scene that's 80% exposition, 15% dialogue, and 5% action, that scene is really going to drag. And if the next scene is 65% dialogue, 25% action, and 10% exposition, that scene is probably going to drag, too. That doesn't mean you need to have a 33% balance of all three, but you want to make sure that one doesn't completely overwhelm the others unless it's absolutely necessary.
#4 - Consider your pacing.
Even when you balance action, exposition, and dialogue, some scenes will have a slower pace and some scenes will have a faster pace. If you have too many fast-paced scenes in a row, or too many slow-paced scenes, the reader gets bored which makes the story drag. That said, it's a good idea to vary your pacing to create a relative balance between fast and slow. If you've had a couple of fast-paced scenes, stick in a slow-paced scene or two to allow the reader to catch their breath. If you've had a slower-paced scene, try following it up with a faster-paced scene to liven things up.
#5 - Make sure everything pulls its weight.
Every bit of everything that happens, every bit of info given and things explained, every conversation, every scene... all of it needs to be there for a reason. If you're writing a story about researchers going to Skull Island to find King Kong, you can't have a whole scene on the boat taken up by a high stakes card game unless things happen during that card game that are critical to the reader's understanding of the characters or plot. Things can't be there just for fun, or because it's cute, or to give the characters some interaction. Everything has to contribute to the plot in some way. If you have a lot of things happening that don't really matter in the story, it can make your plot drag. That said, go through your story and look at the things that happen. Ask yourself if you can remove that moment, event, or scene without it affecting the overall story. If you can, or if a few minor changes would make the removal work, it's a moment, event, or scene you can think about cutting.

What Radiant Order Non-Stormlight Characters Would Belong To
As requested by anon. :)
If non-Stormlight Archive characters had the opportunity to bond spren, what orders would each of them belong to?
(I’m a Edgedancer, by the way, per the quiz!)
1. Vin: Windrunner
As pointed out by @itmakesssenseincontext (here), Vin literally thinks The Words that make someone a Windrunner, as she vows to only use her power to protect those unable to defend themselves. So. Like. If there had been an Honorspren around, she’d be a Windrunner already.
2. Steris: Elsecaller
The Elsecaller order is about self-improvement, and it attracts people who are quote "less flamboyant" and more serious, like scholars. Their spren are logicspren. I think this order would suit Steris very well!
3. Wayne: Edgedancer
This is per WOB! I mean, I do see it. Wayne’s power is essentially Super Empathy, as he can make himself understand other people’s perspective in order to pretend that he is one of them. Plus, he literally cannot forget the man he killed, creating elaborate and unhealthy rituals to remember him forever. I guess he does have healing powers too; I dunno if that’s part of the reasoning. Per Brandon, the other Edgedancers would find Wayne “strange,” but come on. Wayne & Lift would get on like a house on fire and would possibly literally cause that.
4. Sazed: Bondsmith
This is one of those that just felt right to me immediately, and then I just had to sit and try to figure out why. I think partly it's because Sazed literally bonded two very disparate Shards together into one, which feels very Bondsmith of him. But Sazed also cared a lot about connecting people and helping people understand other cultures, so there's that as well. I suppose the other one I could see for Sazed would be Edgedancer, given that he makes it his mission to save all otherwise forgotten religions. But I'm going Bondsmith as my number one choice.
5. Shai: Lightweaver
WOB has Shai as an Edgedancer, which I found shocking. I mean...the artistry? The literally becoming other people in order to be ready for various situations? The one last-ditch personality whose entire purpose is to craft an intricate lie to hide Shai from herself??? To me, Shai is a Lightweaver through and through. But per Brandon, Shai is an Edgedancer. So I guess it depends on who knows this character better. A random person who blogs or the literal author.
6. Wax: Skybreaker
As a lawman, basically. Plus, there's the whole conversation between Miles and Wax where Miles tries to convince Wax that if the law is unjust, you have a duty to oppose the law and Wax is like, "Nuh-uh shut up." (Since that so mirrors Kal and Moash, I can understand teh Wax as Windrunner argument, but we can't have ALL the protagonists be Windrunners!)
7. Marasi: Truthwatcher
This is almost certainly just me--I so strongly headcanon Marasi as an investigative reporter that I can't even remember the truth anymore. Ironic, I guess, given the subject of this entry... If I wanted to try to justify this, I guess I'd say Marasi does have a canonical interest in discovering the truth...but yeah, I don't expect many to agree with this one!
8. Rashek: Skybreaker
Had to include this one, as it's a WOB. Not a very good one, per Sanderson, but a Skybreaker nonetheless. Let's all imagine Nale having to deal with Rashek, shall we?
9. Vivenna: Stoneward
Vivinna does feel very Windrunner to me, given her bro chemistry with Kaladin. But the Stonewards are about being where they're needed, about being dependable and good team players, about making the best of a bad situation. I think of Vivenna showing up on a whole new planet, seeing a city without leadership, and being like, "Sure, I'll take over the city guard and forge a team of incredibly loyal guards until it's time for me to move on and go to the next place I'm needed."
10. Ranette: Dustbringer
Mostly because of the tinkerer angle--dustbringers are interested in knowing how things work, plus their power is inherently destructive and so requires careful control. And Ranette, you know, makes guns 'n' stuff.
11. Bleeder: Willshaper
The Willshapers are about freedom--for themselves, and for others. They want to free those who have been unjustly imprisoned. And oh man. What Bleeder wanted was to free herself and others from Harmony's influence, from the way he could literally take her and others over. So she wanted freedom for everyone and would do anything to obtain it.
12. Kelsier: Edgedancer, Dustbringer, or Willshaper
Sorry to end on a WOB, but I'm fascinated that Sanderson can see so many possibilities for Kelsier. An Edgedancer in his desire to change the world back into a green paradise for Mare. A Dustbringer or Willshaper for self-mastery and determination. Honestly, I'm most fascinated by Willshaper, due to the comment that they believe any law is a form of oppression. That extreme form of freedom really feels like it suits Kelsier, to me.

The main campsite in the Shadow Cursed Lands is a little weird. It's also way larger than it needs to be.
Everyone except Halsin is in a main circle around the camp fire, and Halsin is past an arch a ways off but otherwise on the same level.
But then there's a bunch of land on the rock ledge above where Halsin has set up his tent. There's even a falling apart house with a bed (it's where the mirror to change your character's appearance is). I was just double checking everything, because I remembered being annoyed at the map because I couldn't find Arabella after I sent her to camp.
I didn't realize how extensive the area behind Halsin is...
I'm also not a huge fan of the house itself, so I'm going to pretend its not there.
Anyway
Sound can travel off of rock and water in weird ways. On a quiet day when the water is calm you can sometimes hear a conversation happening on the other side of a lake as if it was right next to you.
In the Shadow Cursed Lands there's not many growing things to dampen sound as it travels.
If two people wanted to spend sometime together, they couldn't wander too far from camp, from the light, for their own safety. And it would be perfectly reasonable to not realize that the winding trail and the trees would be enough to block out sound from the main part of camp but the distance and change in elevation wouldn't be enough to keep private moments private from Halsin's elf hearing.
Well that's a bit embarrassing.
Pre Astarion's Act II love confession (possibly post saving Thaniel), Astarion and Tav 'take a moment to themselves' and at some point during their time together they discuss how great Halsin is.
And not just how sexy he is, but that he's smart and kind and dedicated. (Traits Astarion, lovely rat bastard that he is, scoffs at :p) I have a ton of silly banter in mind.
Halsin could wander over to the main part of camp (but what if that's weird? what if someone asks him why he's joined the rest of the group?). I think he'd feel stuck in his little clearing, listening, or rather, trying not to listen.
Maybe he'd turn into a mouse XP
(And mice don't have great hearing acuity, so that would be a good choice to not listen)
I wish the game gave you more opportunities to talk to your friends about your other friends. And also to tell Halsin how great he is.
'I wager you aren't aware of how magnificent you are' or whatever that line is indeed. Halsin's magnificent too! And too humble!!
And one of the best parts of being poly is having someone to enthuses with about how sexy and great and awesome and cuddle-able your partner is!

You mentioned previously that Bell's Hells going to Yios earlier in the story or starting from there (I don't remember which) would've fixed most of early campaign issues. Could you elaborate on that? Which issues would it have fixed and how?
Hi anon, sure! It was going to Yios before Bassuras, but I actually have two separate pitches after talking through this with some people: Either have them go to Yios, or, alternately, get rid of Yu (either to show up later or, frankly, Erika can and has played far better characters).
The issues to be addressed:
general lack of party interactions. I've covered this before but basically...bonding is a subjective and nebulous term so I'm deliberately not using it, but there is, objectively, a culture in this campaign of doing far fewer check-ins, group conversations that aren't "what do we do next" or rehashing the same theological discussion, taking watch together/having conversations before bed, or just...little moments, honestly, than compared to the past two. I think this is because the foundation was not laid earlier, and, indeed, may have been disrupted.
pacing. the Bassuras arc is an overstuffed slog with no real wins and two entirely externally driven missions, both of which go rather badly. I say this as a person who advises people to still watch the first 27 episodes of Campaign 1 and who refuses to give C1 and C2 abridged versions: I would happily put together a "what to watch and what to skip" for C3.
related to the above, infodumping. It is somewhat unavoidable in this campaign, but chunks of the Bassuras arc and then, much of the Yios arc, are just Grim Verity Wizard or Fey Says Things About The Apogee Solstice At Bells Hells.
The fact that Otohan Thull holds the dubious distinction of being the most deadly villain CR has had, while having said about 10 lines total of which zero were remotely interesting. Everything that is intriguing about her is, well, infodumping that has ultimately been entirely irrelevant to the plot.
Letting the party choose where to go next rather than sending them directly to Bassuras after the Heartmoor would likely have sent them either to Yios or to where the Gorgynei are, on their way to Yios; those were the two main hooks. (A third is the caravan for which Cyrus Wyvernwind was blamed for the robbery, and if the party followed that hook, one could very easily have the trail lead to Yios.) This would not have been on business for Eshteross, so it would have likely been slow travel. The party had already shown some promise in the Heartmoor and on their journey there so this would have kept up that momentum of taking watch together, sharing information with each other, and making decisions on their own steam, without a guiding patron. I think it would have laid that stronger foundation of a culture of, well, talking to each other, by giving that nascent 20s and 30s episode period far more time to breathe. Upon arriving in Yios, they already knew to seek out the Grim Verity and Kadija Sumal; the same exact outcome could have occurred. The one major wrinkle is Ludinus, but that could be set in Bassuras, with him coming to talk to Otohan (thus introducing him and giving a much richer insight into the Vanguard generals' dynamic). The party wandering around a city themselves and learning of Liliana and the Vanguard and perhaps getting hints of the Grey Assassins would set the groundwork of the core apogee solstice plot. You could even, and this is very much a hindsight is 20-20 situation, have Planerider Ryn give them some sort of favor a la J'mon Sa'Ord - use this sending stone and I'll come get you out of a sticky situation, with a price (the price being destroying the Feywild Malleus Key). You could also achieve the lore drops from Ira here; either move him here or have someone else show them a telescope that has been enchanted to see the city. And, of course, you could have Otohan in Imogen's dreams.
While in Yios, having had some time to get their bearings as a party and to more slowly lay out the moon plot, you could then have Eshteross have someone message them or send word via the airship that Treshi has escaped prison and fled to Bassuras, etc etc, please infiltrate the Paragon's Call. From there you could run it roughly as before, with the party having more information about the Vanguard and the Paragon's Call as a front for it and thus acting with more subtlety and caution and giving the party more time to interact with Otohan so that she possessed literally any interesting features that weren't just told to us out of character. Honestly I think saving Yu for later in the campaign would still be wise (or playing a different character but honestly, introducing Yu on the moon as a disgruntled Zathuda underling? could have been great) but I think the party and the plot would have been better able to accomodate them. It's worth keeping in mind that by the time Yu left (episode 29), there had been a guest in over half the campaign's episodes. No shade to Dorian, who I think was great, but the party needed some time to readjust and figure out who they were.
In Bassuras, the party could then have Ryn as their Otohan Fight Hail Mary should that come up, which would send them to the Feywild, and things would proceed from there roughly as they did before;
Which brings me to option 2, which is that actually, I think just not having Yu there would have done wonders. Think about how much time the party spent talking to them and their story instead of like...to each other. There were some good early conversations on the ship over and their first night in the city! And then they spent most of their time in Taste of Tal'Dorei talking about someone who, ultimately, served to introduce Fearne's parents and nothing else. Imagine if they'd just...talked with each other.
In this scenario, I'd have the party focus on FCG and Ashton's connections. I think you could have introduced the Calloways later, in the Feywild (in this scenario the Yios arc still unfolds roughly as it did, so just...have them there at Morri's the way they were there in episode 78), but if you did want to include that, you could have just had Imahara Joe notice that Fearne looked a lot like Birdie and say something, since going to Joe's would be easy to guide the party into doing. You also, by focusing more on FCG and Ashton, could explore the culture of Bassuras and the Stratos Throne and therefore actually get a sense of what "Legend of the Peaks" actually means.
As before, I really think having Yu show up either as the party made their way to the Feywild Malleus Key, or on the moon, would be a much better showcase for the character and would fit the story better. As is, we learned nothing about Zathuda from them other than that he exists; the Moontide Crown was yet another MacGuffin in The MacGuffin Slog and as discussed Ira's role could have been achieved in Yios (he also could have shown up causing problems at the Material Plane Malleus Key to establish the enemy of my enemy is my friend so that he could be in the same position as the moon mission); and the Calloways could easily have been introduced by Joe or when the party went to the Feywild.
I also really think you could just save all the infodumping for Yios; I think one giant lore drop would have been stronger than two decently sized ones. Naturally I still think going to Yios first would be more graceful, but truly, just a little more breathing room in Bassuras would have done so much.
As an aside: I think one thing that would have mitigated the pacing of Bassuras/Whitestone is, well, not going to Whitestone. In the Yios-first model, theoretically they would go to the Feywild (perhaps Morri could bring people back had that been necessary, which would have been fun as hell to explore) but in the Bassuras w/o Yu scenario, Whitestone would still be an option. Now, what's done is done. However, I do want to point out, if any Crown Keepers fans are in the audience, I strongly suspect that the Jiana Hexum connection not being leveraged in favor of going to Whitestone is a major factor in the Crown Keepers not coming into the story, because the hook for them was via Cyrus being sought after by Jiana and they went with Keyleth.
Obviously this is D&D! As mentioned above, hindsight is 20-20, Monday morning quarterbacks are a day too late, and so forth. I still think that a session zero would have also been very helpful (not the typical CR main campaign "play out a scenario with your pre-existing companions," but one like they showed for Daggerheart and for the various Candela seasons; I have separate thoughts about how the screen test strategy vs. a more traditional session zero has twice now had less than impressive results). But either of these changes would, I think, have made it a much stronger campaign.

a rumination on falling in love; aka the terrifying and strange reality of "dream girl" becoming "real girl"
or, what happens when an only child who has only ever loved in fiction falls in love in real life instead
this is not for you. unless, of course. you, like me, have felt like this before. which is to say, this might be for you. but it most definitely is, 100%, for me. so read on if you'd like. or, close out and move right along.
i am very lucky, i think, to have had the childhood that i had -- only child, two loving parents. but not only that, two loving parents who were good at loving and also good at parenting (which are two very distinct and different things and somehow, at least in my semi-limited exposure to people around my age, is becoming rarer and rarer these days). i am lucky to have been allowed to grow as i have -- to never question that i am loved, unconditionally and endlessly, to never question whether or not i have something -- because of course it's mine -- i've got no siblings to have to share anything with.
now, to some, that might be a sad, lonely thing, but i never thought about it that way. because i was never taught to think about it that way. and contrary to popular belief, it hasn't made me (or at least so i think) stingy or "bad at sharing" -- it's actually made me rather an over-sharer. i always have snacks at the office, i try to offer advice freely, i spot dinners/outings when i can, i like the joy it brings to share things not only to the people being shared with, but also to me -- the person doing the sharing.
but the double-edged sword of only-child-dom in upper-middle class america is time -- the huge, gaping excess of it, giant swaths of it after school, great big chunks of it on the weekends, the seemingly unbridgeable chasm between turning off the light and falling asleep. later, i'd learn that undiagnosed adhd and very high performing manic depression are to blame for most of my vibrating sense of need to fill every hour of every day with some kind of productivity (this, unironically, is why i love new york city -- the frenetic energy of it matches my mental wavelength so that i can feel "productive" even when i'm just walking down the street or sitting in a bar).
but back then, i -- and by extension my lovely parents -- tried to fill it with stuff -- 2 different art classes, ballet, swimming, piano, debate club, singing, chinese school, and of course, with my still yet unfilled hours -- reading and writing. to say i was raised by the books i read would be an understatement. to say i am nothing more than a massive conglomerate of those characters that resonated most with me in those books would be parenthetical to the fact that i'm also built by all those characters i've ever admired or wanted to be. i am, in the most cliche, literal, non-lampshaded sense "that nerdy book girl" who made it her entire fucking personality to be... that nerdy book girl. and this, amidst the stratospheric rise of "not like other girls" media and rhetoric -- it was not healthy (it still isn't), but it was a large part of who i was. and a lingering part of who i am today.
my overactive, adhd-driven imagination served me well, then. into the stories i delved, and what i couldn't find in my normal every day life, i found in narrative. long before the tiktok-ification of "book boyfriends" came the voices in my head that sounded like all the would-be book boyfriends i'd ever have -- everyone from edward cullen to kakashi to four (that one guy from divergent who only has like 4 fears, which in retrospect is so, so cringe, but alas) to fictionalized versions of one direction members. the list goes on. i used to be able to hold entire conversations, play out entire scenes with these mental constructs with impudent ease. spend hours in my room by myself just imagining.
it was like astral projection -- my body, here, my mind and my soul, somewhere else entirely. and this i believe (to this day) is the core of a lot of my writing and creativity. and also the core of a lot of my philosophies and beliefs. the ability to sink into a dream, a scene, a story.
and then. i fell in love.
and sure, it would be much too cliche to say that misery breeds good art so a happy artist would (at best) produce mediocre art/writing/whatever. because i've also seen fantastic art produced by very, very happy artists. the sad truth is only that it's much rarer than the alternative of the painfully mainstream tortured artist.
but to some degree, i think there's an inkling of truth in that saying. because having a real-life boyfriend, with all the real-life machinations and strings of having said real-life boyfriend has made it, somehow, much harder to access that old imaginary part of me. like a child growing up and losing the ability to "make believe" the way they used to. except, i know it's still there. there are still moments where i touch it, where i dip my toes in and it always feels like coming home.
and it's more than just the normal adult-ish responsibilities of going to work and paying bills, making dinner and shopping for groceries. doing laundry and investing in your roth ira. because before real-life boyfriend, i still did those things and i was still able to seamlessly get to that "elsewhere place". somehow, it is the physical presence of real-life boyfriend that seems to act as a "grounding agent". he is home, so i can't go to that other place. or, i can kind of get there, but i've always still got one foot steeped in reality.
it is not a necessarily good or bad thing, just an observation at most. but it does create this new "space" for the "want" of that elsewhere. for the want to being able to slip into that creative asphodel like i used to -- blink and i'm there. so i find myself often sitting at my desk, wishing, and then wondering what it means that i can't. that it isn't always and immediately accessible to me anymore.
perhaps absolute solitude was the unquestioned prerequisite for so long that i'd never noticed it until the solitude was no longer available to me. or perhaps the book-boyfriends are just shy creatures, afraid of the blaring daylight that real-life boyfriend might shed on their ultimate two-dimensional beings.
or perhaps that was always a "safe space" that i'd created for myself, and now real-life boyfriend has created a safe space for me too, and the venne-diagram of the two space spaces overlap just so, making a less singular space of each of them in turn. i don't know, but it's an interesting thought.
it's always struck me, now thinking back, that i've never been even remotely interested in having a real-life relationship before now. but that i've also never questioned if i wanted the current one that i'm in, if this was "the one" or if it was "good for me". and in that too, i know i am very lucky. few people can say that they struck gold the first time they've ever tried.
i know for a fact i wouldn't be this happy, have this good of a life if real-life boyfriend weren't here. he has made me better in ways that i do not have words to describe. but i'm also terrified of the earthen grounding-ness of him. i've spent my entire childhood and most of my adult life with my head in the clouds, taking the necessary trips back down to earth when i had to but... it feels strange to be "here" more and more. there's a hole inside of me where "that" heaven should be.
but two things can be true -- i am happy here; i still yearn for that elsewhere.

The entire conversation lasted about 8 minutes, but most of that time was just silence between each exchange, so I edited out the long pauses and got it down to ~3 minutes. But in the last stream (the one with Elena) for example; many scenes dragged on far too long#and it wasn't because people were taking extra long to write books or translate things. It was purely a matter of pacing#idk I'm a professional writer and editor so I'm extra nitpicky about things like that. Once the Putt Putts end up getting moved to Trollstopia (i imagine they have their own sectioned off area, they're not exactly "pop trolls" anymore yknow? they got a lil makeshift spot they're turning into a new mini golf course as we speak), Clay was properly hired as Viva's royal advisor. Aka her assistant :)
He loves doing all his usual serious boy work, but its gotten hard doing it by himself now that it's less "trying to keep a small community from burning down" and more "trying to convince all the other genre's theyre not feral as hell". its a lotta work, along with keeping up with Putt Putts and their wants and needs for their new kingdom
So Clay puts out a flier for an assistant position and after weeks of no luck, he gets a hit and hires the guy as soon as he can!
Creek has been living on the outskirts of Pop Village ever since the "Bergen" incident, too afraid of the consequences of his actions to try and rejoin the Pop Trolls. Instead he ends up watching them build a newer area with Trolls he's never even met before.
Creek begins exploring the Putt Putt Range and is happy to be greeted as a full stranger. This spot might be safe. Social, not too far from his "home" (a tucked away cave in the forest), and no one knows what he did. He can start over!
Even better, there's a job offer for Putt Putt Range specifically. Hes not one for hard work, but after living on his own for long enough, hes sick of having to fight for his own food. He'd rather have a paycheck and something MUCH better then whatever crap he finds lying around. Or has to cook. Even worse.
Clay may be desperate but Creek does do good work. Being his assistant is thankfully rather simple. Creek is in charge of smaller, less important file information, along with manning the front and taking requests for the Putt Putts on what should be done to the Range. All in all? It's peaceful. It really does feel like a fresh start, and even better? Clay is...really nice. Patient, understanding, he listens and Creek has been alone so long it's just nice to be heard.
Things could really take a turn for the better.
...and then he learns who Clay's brothers are and all hell breaks loose :)
(its a lot of back and forth, Clay learning new info and having to just sorta grapple with it, being caught in the middle of a family feud situation. He cant STAY with Creek/keep him on staff if he wants to keep Branch happy, but he also doesnt wanna FIRE Creek because he hasnt hurt the Putt Putts. He has no reason to fire him, family business is just that. Family business. Its not for a professional setting.
Clay's caught between a rock and a hard place, and he's gonna have to squeeze himself out before he breaks.)

Being a woc fan of Bridgerton can be a struggle, especially when it comes to liking the poc characters on the show, especially the woc. Like I remember when s1 came out and the blatant microaggressions and just plain racism coming from this fandom was atrocious. You had people spewing very hateful things about Charlotte, Marina, and Simon and undermining the latter two's pain and trauma at the hands of the white characters---Marina was treated terribly by the Featheringtons and, whether you like Penelope or not, you cannot deny that she also played a part by releasing that letter to the Ton and Simon was violated Daphne no matter how people try to spin the story to offer her some form of sympathy (it still blows my mind that people would want to though).
S2 is just as bad (not even including how they changed the Sharma family's storyline than how it was in the books when that wasn't necessary) and the racist undertones many of the fans have towards Mary and Edwina (as well as Kate but for her it's carries more brown woman needing to be saved by a white man when Anthony is involved because a lot of you all in the fandom are quick to use this trope such as "oh, he's the only one who truly knows her"). The lack of screen time for this family really ends up hurting them to but even with that, whether you like Mary and Edwina or not, it would be a lie to deny the racism a lot in the fandom hold towards them (and how that falls onto the actresses because it was very apparent how many in the fandom couldn't let two Desi women shine without having to bring down the other and Netflix played into that too for drama) and paints every small thing they do as being terrible crimes but in the same breath will not have the same smoke for the Bridgertons, who have their own set of problems (but because they are also the main family, among other things, they are provided more grace without consequences).
