As a woman of color who makes in-depth posts about racism in this fandom, I am often forced to let a lot of insults and general disrespect slide, because I am not allowed to be angry.

I don’t respond to 98% of the disrespectful/ignorant/racist/dismissive comments I get. You will never see them. You will never have to see them. I block and delete most, because they make me angry.

Because if I am angry, I will not be taken seriously.

This experience and this feeling is shared by many minorities, on and offline. If we show any emotion other than grief that can be comforted, admiration that can be shared, or humor that be understood, we will not be taken seriously.

I make stupid edits and that’s fine.

I make long posts about racism and the grief it has given me, I share my hurt and it’s passed around without a thought by most and that’s fine.

But the second I get angry? I am not longer palatable.

Recently you all saw an example of this shown by my friend Kyle, who is white. We partnered together to make similar posts and thought we both were similarly aggressive and similarly angry, yet Kyle’s post got much more engagement, even though I have x6 the amount of followers.

I am not allowed to be angry.

If I am angry, I am ignored, or worse I am discredited. When I am angry, my posts are often dismissed as acts of rage and not informative explanations or experiences.

I want my posts to be shown, I want people to be made aware of issues, I want people to be aware of the racism displayed in popular media and popular fandom.

I want people to learn.

But I can only do that if I swallow my rage.

I am well worded because I have to be. I am through because I have to be. I am calm and stern because I have to be.

I do not have a choice.

And frankly? I’m getting fucking sick of it, because some of you make me really fucking angry.

I have something to say to certain people in this fandom and I've had these thoughts and feelings for a while. I won't name names for the sake of what I'm about to say. It's important that I say it, and explain it, and tell you firstly

I am absolutely disgusted, on a soul level, on a heart level, by your beloved Snarry ship and I must call you out on what you are doing to Severus (and also to Harry, though Severus has been with me since I was read the first book at 4 years old. From that age on, I knew and felt he was more, he was onto something, so he is the main focus of this)

I don't know you are, and I can't quantify and analyze each one of your lives to understand why you like Severus, but I know within my soul, you do not understand the gravity of what he gave up for Lily, the amount of self will it took, the knowledge that even if he would never make things right with Lily, he must do the right thing (which we can debate on if he actually made this emotional decision but I have a following more important point)

I have dealt with the strength of love towards a friend after the world that birthed you shatters you soul with abuse, you have no one truly supporting you in this world, you don't know what geniune love looks or feels like, but yet, you meet somebody who makes your soul glimmer, like you are actually alive and not dead inside. I have been down many schools of thought about these types of love, having them for a handful of different people I met throughout my journey. On one hand there is geniune pyschological phenomanoms when it comes to loving and connections after abuse, that some of us develop unhealthy attachment styles, some of us encounter limerance (unwanted, obsessive love for somebody else you cannot get out of), all of these schools of thoughts are valid and in appropriate medical settings and pyschology study, are useful for helping us understands how humans work and potentially helping us guide us to a patch of healing.

But what I'm going to say is different , because I experienced different, thought different.

I had to validate that love I held for those people because it made me want to continue to exist - and so what if is excerbated or partially caused by my trauma and/or mental illness. It was the most real feeling I had ever felt, those feelings eventually lead me to this moment now, where I can finally stand up and tell you how disrespectful you are to Severus and his journey by shipping him with Harry. I trusted those feelings and they lead me to the healing I needed for many years.

Severus's journey mirrored my own, I was the child with a terrible temper, getting kicked out of schools early on in childhood, group homes. But why did me and him continue to exist in a world that made it clear it didn't want us?

I found that answer out as I grew into a teenager and experienced love for my friends and my limerance objects (the object of ones affection while under limerance effects), that I wanted to keep existing so I could do good for them.

I had no idea how to do that, at this point I shipped literal Armstrongcest from full metal alchimist, my entirely way of being, and thinking, was fucked up. I hurt people left and right even though the feelings I had - and for certain people I didn't realize until I used and hurt them so much, that they weren't my emotional priority, I liked the companionship, somebody who talked about things you knew and were interested in.

Severus made friends with terrible people because they were the only ones that really gave that to him. And nobody stepped in to teach him straight or differently, he only knew the world as it was for him. I'm not condoning being a wizard racist or anything, I simply understand when you are in that much pain, as my friend says often to me 'if you aren't given appropriate love you will learn to lick it off a knife'

Something in him for Lily always stirred, and unhealthy as it was for him to have that, I truly believe it was the only geniune relationship he ever had growing up. And knowing personally still grief after 8 years of the person my heart chose simply ghosting and refusing all contact, sometimes that pain, that longing, it never goes away. You remember it because it spoke to your soul at that time in your life in a way you have never encountered since.

I am absolutely... just, offended, that as somebody who has gone through this emotional journeys, who understands now the appropriate space that must be given to this person, it is beyond words of absolute recoiling of the soul to think that after all that happens, your person never returns to you

That you go and fuck their child

all the self work you've done on yourself to achieve a sense of self you now can find yourself be proud you climbed that mluntain for them

That you go and think their kid is an appropriate partner

Part of this is understanding you need to leave their circle alone (even if it was never involved their circle before), it is a level of respect you come to and understand for this person. that from afar, mayhaps now and again you can send a blessing or help in some way, but to want to change your behavior from what you did that hurt them to run (which is the level of emotional decision i want to write for severus but that's another topic)

you understand your behaviors and your way of connecting with people isn't good, and the first thing you can do to make it right within your soul is going and trying to exude the exact opposite energy

which means respectfully at the end leaving her kid the fuck alone

i could go on rants for many of the other severus ships but i don't care to. none of them are more annoying to a mosquito to me. but this one, stirs a specifc part of my soul that i need you to hear when i say

When you fucking ship him with harry, you are completely opposite of that energy, you don't want what's best for him, otherwise you'd know the grief and such goes through stages and you's eventually want him to learn how to respect his own emotions and experiences

to see you snarry shippers say dumb shit like i love his smile, i love a happy snape, i love him, i am disgusted beyond words

you don't actually fucking care at all if you want him to go down that dark ass road

i geniunely had to ask myself at a point of thinking about this, what if it was me, and i was the person who was diddling that persons child?

i said to my friend, if that ever happens, please just shoot me. end it. clearly something has gone wrong, very wrong, and it can't be fixed when you get to that level, it's all already fucked. my friend, understanding he said to me 'i definitely wouldnt want to but i hear you... it'd be painful but i know where you are coming from when you talk about severus and m(person). if it gets that bad, i know you don't want it to go on'

of course this is a hypothetical question so of course it won't happen but that parallel is the Foundation of the understanding. without my feelings for all those people that eventually coalesced into my now many year long grief over just 1 and has held steady, I wouldn't have this personal context to give you but it's important I give it to you

so you can understand now how the very ship is an anti-thesis to severus's soul and how dare you say you care about him while doing that shit

how fuckin ass dare you disrespect him and his journey like that

how dare you try to stand with him while pushing him back into a similiar kind of darkness he was born in!

fuck you and fuck your snarry.

respect severus, don't you ass fucking dare act like you understand what it's living it because you clearly fucking don't if you can't give him the basic respect of not pushing him backwards

How do you feel/what do you do about poc that are in the sunken place? I’ve seen poc admit they can’t imagine a poc as reader and only imagine white people, then defend white washing in all fandom mediums(fics, art, headers etc). It annoys the fuck out of me, esp since white creators use those poc to hide behind. Like ok if you’re cool with the white supremacy in your head good for you, but it doesn’t work for me and I want to imagine reader as pic and flr people to work towards and create a more welcoming environment for everyone.

The sunken place, that made me laugh out loud!!! But you’re right, they never fail to show up when a white person is doing their best to make sure a reader is white. But let’s talk about it, cause I been DYING to give my piece.

I can always hear them coming, the loud ass tuba that makes up their Uncle Ruckus theme song starts playing right before they post their “I can excuse racism” ass reply so they can shove their head up white writers’ asses.

The most common statement I see is something like “tbh I just ignore those words, they barely even register to me now, and sometimes I don’t even wanna imagine myself so it doesn’t bother me” like congrats on admitting that the white coding has been SO common of a practice that you’ve adapted to purposely imaging a white person in your place because the white writers you worship made it difficult for you to ever imagine yourself or at least an oc with the same shade of skin as you in a READER insert.

and if they don’t wanna imagine themselves in the reader tag but feel inclined to speak up about people who do being upset? GET THE FUCK OUTTA THE READER TAG! This doesn’t involve you then, bitch. Go read some OC fanfiction, and take your house slave mindset with you. They’re not better than us by agreeing with details that do encourage and up hold white supremacy (we’re not calling you members of the kkk, we’re saying if you want to imply Reader is white, you’re implying we should because my black ass does not have straight blonde hair, blue eyes and cream colored skin)

‘Oh, but vivi it’s not that deep, I just like to write certain─’ with disrespect, shut the fuck up. if you’re white, you do not encounter these racist people on here the way we do because they’re most likely your friends and followers while they’re OUR antagonists.

You do not get to decide whether you only wanting white people to be able to see themselves in Reader (an insert meant to let literally ANYONE see themselves in the place of) is racist or not—just like business owners who refuse to allow POC to shop/dine/sit in their establishments don’t get to say they’re not racist.

Beware pjsk fandom

You've read the title, it's another post about a toxic server, this time it's a project sekai tumblr rp server

This is the server, now I mainly found it to be chill when I was in it but once I left with my final message all hell broke loose

this is my message, as you see its talking about a joke they have and closed culture names

When it comes to systems, fictives and closed culture names most change the name they use because they arent that culture bodily, but this server was uncomfortable with that saying its different when a system uses it then a singlet(which I am)

This is not true as I know many systems who disagree and have openly said if you arent that culture or not you should change the name because you arent that culture bodily

As you see most of them were trying to not talk about this and ignore it saying "it's a heavy debate". Theres no debate it's just about being respectful to the closed culture

Now in a message I saw one of them admitted to not being Japanese but still being a Japanese name "Nori", now even if I am not Japanese myself(I am american) there is always people from at culture not wanting their names to be used, now if this person was half japanese half american, then maybe, but they arent

Now after my message alot of them decided to take a break all because I basically told them to be respectful of the closed culture some of them use names from

They had said I basically "ruined" the server and wanted to make a new one and a little later they basically said I should die for saying they shouldn't basically racist and disrespecting the closed culture

Now about the "inside joke" it was basically a system saying "plural beam" to people, the reason it made me, a singlet, uncomfortable was because they did it almost everyday and it felt weird, I even told my system friends and they had agreed, it was weird

They also basically said that if you have multiple rp blogs you might basically be an introject, which again, not true, just because someone might be good at roleplaying a character doesnt mean they are a system or introject

#Hetalia #facebook #Roleplay I am an active Roleplayer. I have been in many roleplaying fandoms. I have seen many dramatic situations. However, I have not seen true toxicity till I joined the Hetalia Fandom. A friend of mine got me into the anime Hetalia Axis Powers and the spin-offs. I loved the characters and wanted to roleplay one. So I did that. Little did I know that this fandom was filled with vengeful people who attack anyone they view as a threat. There are also from what I have seen girls who are SA apologists, homophobes, and racists. If they like a Rper enough they will cover up for them and attack the messengers. A guy I knew mentioned that a popular RPer for America might have pressured people into SA RP. For a month to a month and a half after that. The RPer was receiving hate messages, demeaning comments (about them and their country), death threats, and someone telling them that they will leak their personal information if they don't apologize. There was reason to believe The person being harassed was telling the truth. This person has a track history of hateful things in their RP's. If you look back at their post The America threatened a Native America RPer with violence without asking The Native America if they consented to that. The RPer also sent incestuous RPs to a Canada RPer. Also without consent. The fact that all their friends took their side and harassed a nice person who was trying to protect their friend is disgusting. Roleplayers are constantly leaving this fandom. Even though the anime is loved people don't want to be associated with it. At least not the FB RP community. (Or should I say lack of community?) The "historical" clique attack the people who want to just have fun. The air quotes are based on the fact that almost none of them get the history correct. (Or correct mistakes in their somewhat correct post) They look up some random things. Don't fact-check or just make things up to seem smart. They don't act like the countries they are supposed to be. Anyone who does act like the country they are is told they are being stereotypical and hateful. Not that they are just trying to include things from that country in their RP. There was Spain RPer I spoke to on and off. They were always around this Ancient RPer. Their name was Nasir. They acted like friends around them. However, they would constantly talk about how annoying the admin was. However, they liked their art. They don't like them personally. they keep them around for the art and because their friends like them. They hate how conservative they are and wish they could just friend a replacement for their Umayyad. The admin is really smart and sweet. It is a shame she doesn't know that those people talk about her behind her back. It is really depressing because these nasty people are great writers. They are just narcissistic. Also, anyone who doesn't like the smut, disrespect, and foul treatment is told They are not being "historically accurate" and then is cast away by the group leaders. The group leaders are referred to as the most popular people in a friend group. For example, if a guy named Lars was popular they would be called Lars crew, clique, or friends. The friend themselves are not important. They are there to serve the loved person in this case would be Lars. Similar to the mansion family. I left this fandom because everyone does nothing about this. They excuse racism, homophobia, transphobia, SA, harassment, bullying, stalking, and doxing. The people are just two-faced. There is a person who was SA'd In real life and didn't want people to see them due to this. They got into a fight and The one person they shared their photo with showed it to everyone. If I were you I wouldn't ever be part of the Hetalia FB Fandom.

I just saw your post about ofmd. I used to love it too, but I hated the fans and I don't fuck w zionists so I'm out of that fandom now.

But one thing I didn't know was that the fans were racist. Do you mind me asking what they said/did that was regarded as racist? Or just something you can vaguely remember?

I'm just curious is all. I was never overly involved with the fanbase, so I never saw anything like that.

hi!! been trying to think for a while on how to answer this. i was under a lot of fire from ofmd fans for a little while so i decided to wait to answer it anyways. i want to disclaim that i'm a pretty white-passing ojibwe kid, meaning i'm native american; all my commentary on the anti-indigenous (and other) racism i saw in the ofmd fandom is not from a maori perspective, rather just a colonized indigenous one in general. there's also the topic of the historical characters portrayed in the show being slaveowners and this being entirely glossed over in the show - which i can't really effectively speak on, other than to say it's disgusting. there is a lot of good writing on media like hamilton and ofmd that just almost completely erase slavery, but i'm not really equipped to write about it.

anyways!!! most of my issues with other people in the ofmd fandom came from their treatment of the character ed teach. now i used to like taika waititi before all this nonsense cause he was an indigenous filmmaker and i'm indigenous and want to be a filmmaker and i thought it was neat that he did what he did. i was super excited to see a Very Popular Show have an indigenous lead whose character was actually indigenous not just ambiguously brown!! and so when i came to the ofmd fandom i sort of expected other people to feel the same - not the case, to say the least. i saw no shortage of white fans writing fic about stede "civilizing" ed (the actual word that most people used) and people writing essays on how ed is abusive and izzy hands was uniquely his innocent (white) victim, and giving white characters this level of grace that ed was not afforded. and i think (couldn't tell you whether this is still accurate as i haven't seen s2 and i never will) a theme of his character was meant to be moral complexity, only white fans can't handle a morally complex character of color, especially not an indigenous one with complex relationships to white characters that they liked better. all the meta i read about ed teach that was written by anyone who wasn't indigenous just completely ignored his indigeneity like it had nothing to do with his character's written place in the world, like any oppression or disrespect ed received was as a result of being poor, or being a pirate, or being (no joke) uniquely aggressive and prone to violence (thus deserving it).

this is just a surface level of the way people talked and wrote about ed teach - racism all over. then, if i or any other fan who was a poc tried to speak up about it, there'd be outcry of puritanism and not letting people have fun and being too sensitive and immature for a fandom space. (although, there's something almost poetically hilarious about me, a 17 yr old, being told i'm too immature, by the same 30 some year olds who are now putting all their money towards their slaveownder rpf show instead of a real cause, let's not get into that, though!) i've not been in a lot of fandoms in my life, i kind of prefer to just enjoy things by myself and tell my close friends about it, but i can confidently say that ofmd was the most racist fandom i've ever been in, and the most hostile to fans of color. (and i was a homestuck fan!!!!) for a show that tries to pride itself on diversity, and a (largely white) fanbase who thinks that Consuming the Diversity Show makes them a Morally Good Person, the way i and plenty of others were treated by holier-than-thou white ofmd fans is just appalling. it's the worst fandom i've ever ever been in, bar none!!! and i think going forward if i like something i'm probably just going to stick to myself about it, honestly.

I low key despise being in a fandom and someone treats me like absolute garbage… especially those who are newer fans who act like they own the series…

Like listen, sit down…

I been around this since the earlier years of it,

Hetalia has been around since 2006 and it got really popular in the west around about I’d say 2010-2011… it really started hitting its peek.

I personally was in the fandom (me and my best friend) back around 2011-2012… we had Facebook roleplaying accounts of our Hetalia plushies, and we had accounts on a site called Enjin where we would talk about hetalia together and carefully cruise deviantart for pictures we liked of our characters.

We also did some Hetalia stuff on Gaia. (if you guys remember this site, total props to you. I tilt my hat to you.)

We also watched the show on the iPad and sometimes through tv we’d have to find whatever videos we could at the time that were so shit quality…

But anyways…

I don’t like people policing others on the fandom, I think it’s dumb and really fucked way to restrict creative expression,

There is a difference in differentiating fictional from fact…

(And what I mean by this is, if you roleplay/write as a character you know that’s gonna be in any of these categories of no-nos and you’re trying to stay in character, be mindful about it and make sure to tell beforehand, remember… DDDNE. Use your tags, set warnings. Make sure to be mindful.)

Condone inappropriate topics or glorifying them. (Self explanatory, there’s a difference in writing about ww2 than actually going out and trying to relive it, duh.) (same for terrorism, if you’re writing about terrorism, then don’t actually go out and do it! Like this is a given.)

Acting like a conceited, jealous, rude individual.(this is self explanatory, at the end of the day… you do not OWN the characters. I treat them like they are people that exist among us, even if fictional. So you don’t go and try and claim someone like some unhinged person. That’s disrespectful. Oh and, not everyone will like your OTP, so don’t shove it down people’s throats.)

Recognize and take safety precautions when engaging in sensitive/controversial subjects, and if you don’t agree with another fan and it gets you worked up or triggered, disengage and block!

Is what you should be doing when you’re in a fandom like Hetalia.

History isn’t pretty, history isn’t kind. But what parts there are, make use of it. And most importantly enjoy what you like!

We as humans, have used artistic and creative expression to use as an outlet for emotional turmoil and pain since the very beginning days of humanity.

You should be able to do this, without being lost in fixation in between caving to taboo subjects and reality, distorting of the mind and lack of self control.

Use your art as a tool as means to cope. Use your art as an escape to a better place, use your art to destroy pain, use art as means to convey a message.

Use art as how you feel.

Just don’t let history repeat itself.

Just wanted to say your additions to the TF racism post were so succinct and spot one, I have had SO Many discussions with my friends about all the different micro and macroaggressions in both humanization designs and unsavory stereotypical character portrayals in TFs. it feels good to see more people (especially fellow POC) talking about it because theres NO reason ppl should have such awful reading comp and thought processes as 'we GOTTA portray the Decepticons as BIPOC bc they were oppressed in some continuities' while just. Ignoring how utterly awful that is or 'Im gonna hypersexualize this character and Also theyre darkskinned with prominent nonwhite features Its Fine :)' like HELLO?? Its not just a TF thing sadly, but because of how malleable robots are, it can be so blatant

It's like, at first i didn't mind that much when i saw poc decepticons, but the reasons and the portrayals are just so bad. like, it's as if people don't understand their own biasis against poc - especially dark skinned poc and black folks - and it shows in their writing. so many artist just lean on streotypes and fetishizations and it's super SUPER prominent in fan art. especially with characters like megatron and starscream.

i totally agree - it's not just a tf thing, but i always felt for how 'progress' this fandom is, especially regarding queerness, they'd be less racist. but i suppose that isn't quite the case. and ever time i see a nonblack author draw black megatron and do it in such a disrespectful and harmful way i am INSTANTLY reminded. i wish there could be more room to talk about it in a more positive light, but i feel that whenever poc speak up, we get branded as wanting to start fandom drama, and that's just not the case.

and it's surprising because most racist depictions of the transformers are in queer transformers spaces

Totally ok if you don't feel like posting this but I saw the posts about pedro not showing up to the screening in Cannes and I couldn't help but laugh because the fact that this is even a "discussion" is so funny to me! He doesn't owe anyone anything and maybe these people should really go outside and LIVE a little (cause touching some grass is not enough anymore). But what really got me was the part about fans wearing nasty shirts in public and calling him that disgusting d word.... and from a LATINA WOMAN, I feel so disgusted, so uncomfortable and it is so f*ckin outrageous!!! Do these people really not see the problem of oversexualizing latin bodies??? Are we really going backwards like that??? He is a handsome and attractive man, yes, and its ok if you think he has the good looks. But it becomes a f*cking problem when you disrespect and objetify a whole human being, treat him like a sex toy; when you disrespect that person and their background, which let me remind you all: one of the worst dictatorships in Latin America with usa intervention (don't even get mad at me people, cause pedro himself already acknowledged that because *surprise surprise* he is a latin man), the country most of these people are from. I really don't want to start a discussion over politics but it bothers me to no end to see people from a country who did so much shit to a whole continent treat a man who seems so nice and sweet like a walking dick. And if we are seeing that with a white latin man, imagine what is (constantly) being said about latin women, latin poc..... we are not objects.

I know it's not everyone who thinks like that (thank god), this is exclusively about the people who does. Because they need to understand how dangerous, harmful and terrible that kind of behavior is. We are just falling back into a highly problematic and racist stereotype, and we really don't need that.

Hi, sweetheart! Yeah, I agree with you. I don't know if you have been around the Pedro fandom for long, but like 2 years ago the fandom was discussing the same thing. I think that every time many people join the fandom, these things will happen. It's like there are these people that go around joining fandoms that are popular at the moment and all they do is harass whoever the fandom is about. I have seen that with many actors or singers. I think the internet has made a lot of progress with sexism, racism, xenophobia, and homophobia, but unfortunately, there are people that still don't change. And also how many of these things are not even considered when a man is being harassed. They say things to men that they would not say to a woman, for example, the interviewers. And don't get me started with people of color, latins, or any other minority.

My advice is to try to get people around you that think the same way or are similar to you. Or at least that they don't harass or objectify people. Get a nice group of friends, mutuals, followers, etc. It gets more manageable that way. The fandom eventually is going to be full of respectful people again and people in general are going to move on to another white man of the month and are going to leave Pedro alone.

I'm seeing a lot of swifties have to manage their negative emotions that taylor makes them feel to "fit in" with the fandom and this is so fucking toxic to people just in general. Yall are doing to each other what yall did to taylor, which is demand she be happy all the time for you guys and willing to be around you all the time.

Idk yall, I'm seeing many swifties ask people not to attack them for critiquing taylor, I've seen people try and mitigate the harassment from other swifties they're gunna get for openly talking about how Taylor's capitalistic ways hurt them.

The eras tour marketing is not the first time that she has disappointed fans, the "unique" midnights recordings just happened a few months ago, why are yall paying for vip packages if yall aren't meeting taylor (to stand around in MERCH LINES earlier??? Are yall okay, seriously, ask yourself how much money you're spending on her and what ur getting out of it), working with a child rapist director (that convo got shut down because all her friends were doing it too! Which is not a defense but I digress), her working with Zoe Kravitz and Lena Dunham and Lana del ray gets swept under the rug, her working on a racist murderers film adaptation was ignored and celebrated, there is so much more that she's been doing recently since she turned 30 that are really just gross things to be doing and she deserves to see her fans angry at her, even yelling at her online, because that's the only way she will bother to café about this issues.

Like, the eras tour is a money grab because tour is always a money grab but the marketing of this particular money grab is that ALL albums would be fairly represented. Did you forget all the setlists taylor Nation posted that included debut ???? And people were actually picking several songs for debut like cold as you was featured ???????? They put out album shirts, highlighting all albums, she talks about it being a journey through "17" years of music and each era, one at a time.

These are conflicting narratives when you don't put debut or speak now in the setlist.

It's just disrespectful. She asks us to be okay with a lot of stuff that she just ignores and doesn't apologize for because she doesn't care about our feelings, she cares only about the money.
