modern got au in which asha is a "teen parent"

or more accurately, asha and theon have a much larger age gap, 10/15-ish years, type of age gap (she's at least 18/19 and theon's only like 4/5), and in a series of freak events, their lives are turned on its head.

their brothers were dead. their mother and father were ruled incompetent, the former left a shell of herself after the loss of her sons, no longer able to care for her remaining children, the latter was never a father to begin with and he didn't seem to have any wish to become one now.

she was an adult by law, meaning she was free from the hell that was the system. her kid brother - the one who smiled at her for seemingly no reason, the one who crawled into her bed when thunder rattled the house, the brother who held her hand on their rare family outings - was not.

she couldn't leave him there, even if she wanted to, even if it would make her life so much easier. she wouldn't abandon him like the rest of their shitty family. he was blood for fucks sake, she'd die before she let's him get taken away from her and given away to strangers to be used and exploited or treated like a shelter puppy to be pitied and fawned over.

cue asha fighting for custody of her baby brother, doing whatever it takes to be deemed a suitable guardian, and the two of them taking on the world together.

more thoughts:

they have to find an apartment cause they can't afford to keep their family home. moving into the cheapest place they can find with only the stuff they can fit in asha's truck, sharing an air matress and eating off of a coffee table while watching movies they rented from the library.

asha cleaning her brother up before his first day at his new school, trying to get him to look suitable, but not really knowing what suitable means for a kid going into kindergarten/first grade

theon comforting his sister when she gets overwhelmed with it all, doing his best to ease her tears. the night ending with them both curled around each other, just two scared little kids trying their best.

asha fighting anyone she has to to keep custody of theon, whether it be the social worker, the judge, people who called cps to report her. she doesn't care, no one will take away her baby brother.

asha taking theon to work with her (she works in a boat shop cause she already knows what she's doing) and having to keep him entertained while she works so they don't get sent home.

their first christmas/birthdays by themselves. theon putting together gifts at school (finger paintings or paper mache or something of the like) and asha cherishing it forever. asha spending all the money left to her name each time to get him something nice so eh can feel like a normal kid.

theon doing sports in school (little league or something) and asha making sure she goes to every damn game, being the loudest in the stands.

asha getting more and more used to being physically affectionate with her brother at time goes on. before everything she'd tense up when he'd hug her legs or hold her hand, but now she scoops him up like a rag doll, ruffles his hair, kisses his forehead, without a second thought.

#I just think the spin on their dynamic. with him being so much younger than her. the only bit of family she has left. completely dependent-#on her. all of that. would be so interesting #it puts her in this position where she needs to learn to be softer and gentler for his sake instead of just all tough and mean to survive #and just imagine them together #she has to be a parent. she's gotta bathe him. feed him. clothe him. put him to bed. put him through school. deal with bullies. talk to-#his teachers and his friends parents. she's gotta be the 'teen mom' who everyone's always judging and staring at.#all while she's working and finding them a place to stay and learning to be an adult and coping with the loss of her family #and theon's just a kid. he's gonna have bad days. he's gonna throw tantrums. he's gonna need to be held. he's gonna get sick #and he's coping too. his big brother's are dead. his mother essentially died with them. his father gave them up. he's too young to really-#understand any of it. he just knows they're gone.#they're gonna struggle. but they're gonna make it #and maybe they run into some familiar faces along the way #maybe theon is take from her briefly and we meet the starks (maybe they offer to lend her a hand while she gets herself together)#maybe the shop she works in is run by our man davos who is always willing to help out someone. especially kids. in need (he lets theon come #to the shop and lets her take time off to attend to his events. etc.)#idk. do you have any tips for like... paneling? your lil comics, if i could call them that(?) with Dave are well made (to me at least) and I'd like to get into making comics! or if you know any resources that helped you. :') - sincerely, a beginner.

sorry to be answering this so late, wanted to try and give some kinda proper advice haha so what i do is i just make my posts as long as possible so that it takes up like all of ppls dash, this means they are forced to look at it and engage with it! no ok but for real, first off this is just how i do things and by no means any sort of proper tutorial or anything, most of this is prob kinda basic and intuitive stuff, but its good to be reminded of the basics and to notice why you might be doing said things intuitively so you can start doing it intentionally so how i approach things is by picking a focus panel whats the Punchline/Emotional pay off for the page/comic? and then i try and build the rest around that for actual Comics not every page is gonna have one of those ofcourse and thats fine i tend to often have to many focus panels,,,, lmao(which is why my posts end up so long,,,,) i try to group similar panels and make them smaller, it saves space, makes it so the attention goes to the more unique panels and makes things feel more sequential(or u can do like me and have too many similar panels and think, what if i just make it an animation, its just a few extra frames right,,,?<- clueless(i have done this twice now,,, the second is still a wip,,, )) heres one of my posts deconstructed using all this, id do more of them but i dont wanna make this even longer asdsd, but i think its pretty obvious to pick up on once you know the formula lol

after that i think its mostly just clear composition and flow so things dont get confusing(like what panel(also applies to text) youre suppose to read next and such(thats easier with this cus its usually just individual panels and not full pages)) edit: oh and resources that helped me, i mostly just looked at other comics, paying attention to how the paneling was effecting the story and mood! some comics ive looked at for paneling inspo are houseki no kuni, how they play with contrast and stuff, idk theyre all just very striking, i looked at ajin at some point as well for help with some action stuff, most action shonen are also great for that 2 so yeah, just find a comic scene that has the same vibe that youre trying to get and see how they did it, finding a few and comparing and contrasting what you feel works best thats my thought process while doing stuff at least! i hope this helps at least a bit haha

#another thing a teacher told me at some point is to make things Look Intentional? in this case they were referring to comic panels #and how if you have one of those classic slanted dividers(i dont remember what theyre called.. n am 2 lazy to look it up)#make sure its not just slightly slanted as then often gets misread as a mistake like you just messed up a straight line #so basically go big or go home #like art has no rules so u can do whatever you want and different things work better depending on the piece but its advice i try and follow #also paneling for ask blog stuff is a lot easier then actual comics its prob a good place to start to practice this kinda stuff #timing is also important? timing is why im doing 2 animations.......#they just werent working as panels cus they felt too slow? cus it needed 2 many panels that were all quite similar #so they took a lot of space and took 2 long to go through #which is why i was like ill just animate it!<- does not like animating #the things i do for this blog u_u #rambles #advice #anon #art

Mutant AU Malec

(Think Marvel/X-Men, but we don't have to slavishly follow their world's canon)

Alec and his siblings are mutants and teachers/caretakers, overseeing the care and education of young mutants that go to their school. While times have softened the general public to mutants, there are still bigots and prejudice abound. So when the school has to move to a new city/or disctrict, Alec, Izzy and Jace decide to check out the neighborhood to find out if there are possible future hangout spots for the kids.

When they find the Pandemonium Cafe, they mostly just want a cup of coffee. But when one of the customers at a table across from them finds out they are mutants and demands from the cafe's staff to kick them out -(nothing the siblings aren't used to. They won't even hold a grudge against the cafe's staff, not their fault people are shitty), - the incredibly handsome and gorgeous and cute -(so Alec has eyes; he can appreciate another man's beauty, back off Izzy, I'm not asking him for a date right off the bat!!!) - waiter/barista/owner, takes the guy by his lapels, and drags him out. Then he apologizes to the three for the inconvenience and gives them free dessert for having had to endure the asshole.

The cafe becomes the obvious hangout place for the school, both the kids and teachers. And with the help of his students and collueges, Alec eventually even manages to ask Magnus out on that date.

Sometimes I am very sharply reminded that I live in a society that values working to improve robots far, far higher than it values working to take care of other human beings.

(At least in terms of salary and prestige, anyway. And how else does a capitalist society express value?)

Yan was actually at the top of the science career until she decided to be a stay-at-home mom, and Marco is a professor ( university ).

Otherwise, both their families come from wealth, and the HoB house used to belong to Marco's grandmother, while their Selvadorada house was built by Yan’s dad when she was younger so she could be close by while he did his research.

I wanted their house to be bigger tbh, but the lots are so tiny in a lotta the worlds, and I don't really like the lag that comes with huge houses. 😕

Also another thing that’s fucked up is that my parents told me to not be outwardly angry at school because then someone would call like the equivalent of CPS in Canada, genuinely don’t know what it’s called, and take me away. I being like. 12. thought “yeah no seems legit” or more accurately, “i don’t want to get taken away from my family.”

And then, and then, this other time, when my dad just fucking left, we were talked to by a person from I guess the Canadian equivalent of CPS and I, even though I knew it was wrong at that point, kept my mouth shut. My mom told us to keep our mouths shut. And my sister didn’t, she told them and they did nothing.

i vividly remember as a little five year old asking my teacher how to spell "my" and before she could tell me i sounded it out and matched letters to sounds and got so excited i figured it out by myself. like kids don't need to be spoonfed the English language or any language with sight words. theres a time and place, but man, the whole language 😭? why?

Last night I was thinking about how comp dance does but also doesn’t prepare you to be a professional lmao. Like some of the best dancers I know came from the comp world because they learned to be adaptable, versatile, and pick up fast. At the same time, there’s no national titles in the pro dance world and you might never see a solo in your entire career because it’s so often ensemble work, and that can be a tough transition. Would love to hear anyone else’s thoughts!

#like you can be best dancer multiple times and still get rejected from jobs in the real world because you aren't the right fit #you can also argue that because these conventions and competitions are so competitive it can prepare you for auditions #it just depends on the mindset your teachers instill in you #and if you're ok with losing and rejection #but comp dance tends to reinforce that winning is important #and when you win you get lots and lots of praise #but that's not how it goes as a pro
