You know the pamphlets have paid off when someone finally commissions a stained glass window of you!
A somewhat successful attempt to do Egbert the Careless as a stained glass window (based on one of Burne-Jones’ although I achieve nowhere near that level of goodness).
As ever, thanks @outsidexboxofficial for the very good dragon-man

Meeting the Matriarch
[Closed starter for @nijimx]
There were a few tells he had to tell when he was nervous.
There were the common ones, like pacing, tapping his fingers or his foot, fidgeting with his phone, or whatever tool he had on hand. But then there were the ones that were more specific to him. The most obvious of which, provided you knew what to look for, came out when he was extremely nervous.
Aaron was typically a very animated person, especially when around those he knew well. And as such, he was almost always moving, even if only slightly. He'd talk with his hands, walk around the room, or twirl his phone in his hand. But when he was as anxious as he was now, he'd get oddly still. His whole body tenses, his mind racing as he tries to run through various scenarios to prepare himself for every possible outcome, with every movement he would make being deliberate, as to not accidentally skew the results, so terrified of screwing everything up that-
"Aaron-"
He turned his attention to the woman across from him, the reason he was so nervous, his Aunt, Mika Amamiya, who might as well be his mother, given she'd had the role for the last 10 years. Though, her mere presence wasn't what had him so high strung. She'd be meeting someone today. Someone rather important to him.
"It's going to be okay-" She continued with a soft smile. "I'm sure she's a lovely girl. You wouldn't talk about her so much if she wasn't."
Tumblr media
He sighed, looking down at his hands in his lap. He knew she was right, but that didn't ease his tension very much. Sure, things would probably turn out alright, but he still couldn't help but worry about all the little things. These were two of the most important people in his life, and he really, really wanted this to go well.
Though he didn't have much time to dwell, as it wouldn't be long before the bell at Leblanc's door chimed, signalling the arrival of the guest of honor.

A List of Things To Come
*a long post*
I was on hiatus for about 5 years, but I think it's worth the risk of coming back. These are some thoughts and hot takes I've had since then up to now. My professional life is busy, but when I have the time, I'll share. Anyone interested?
Here's a preview, categorized by fandom:
A Song of Ice and Fire:
For asoiaf canon, I’ll speculate on what Jon and Val could have been, and what they could have had together, if he had not kicked the bucket. I’ll also contrast it with Jon's dreams of a life with her, and why he put the torch to it. :( Because of the root of her dislike of Mel and Shireen, I figure she will not be pleased with un-Jon.
Game of Thrones:
In GoT canon, Jon did not love Dany as much as the script suggested he would. In fact, they both failed to take responsibility for the other person. I haven't seen anyone make a statement like this before. (The PTSD is real.) But fic writers did pick up on this and tried to fix it in canon compliant stories, with a lot of success.
Supernatural:
In Supernatural s12-s14, Mary should have found her sons to be way more weird, specifically with each other. But given what we see of her in s6, her characterization is consistent. She would have, and did, ignore the red flags for an idea of family.
I’ll share approving thoughts on Sam and Dean's relationship in the final seasons, disapproving thoughts on the final season of Supernatural, and how I speculated it would either go Gencest or Destiel. We know what happened. No one walked away happy and I think the fandom was all the better for it.
Destiel is not canon. It only became a one-sided love confession. (I know there's a lot of speculation on what happened b/w the studio, the writer's room and the post-production team. Idc. Not gonna touch it.) Thoughts on how I think SPN could have made Destiel go 100% canon involve tweaking the execution and balancing out the themes of Sam and Eileen's love story, the big bad plot, and Dean and Cas's 'love' story.
Outlander:
Outlander (show-only) thoughts, foremost on Roger Mackenzie. He has vexed me from the first time he appeared on screen. I love him dearly, but he vexes me, for how he consistently affects the plot and how that defines his role among the main cast. Later on, I'll run through my favorite moments, episodes and narrative arcs.
Miscellaneous:
I'll share a list of favorite ship-centric fics I've collected over many, many, many years. (Gotta be over 10 years' worth). Along with blurbs that explain my recommendation in a non-spoilery way. Fandoms include: Harry Potter, LOTR, Supernatural, The Walking Dead, ASOIAF, Game of Thrones, Star Wars (Sequel Trilogy), The Flash, Shadowhunters [look away book fans <3], Hannibal (show-only).
I'll also post drafts of fics I never got right and never finished. Mostly GoT-canon divergent Jon/Dany fics.
Most importantly, some very dear friends have encouraged me to vent and hype up my Jonerys fic series "We Could Live Together" as I write it. It's GoT-canon divergent, but I alter some of what occurred before 6x09. Then the story re-enters book territory and moves toward ADOS conclusions. I'd also love to break down and discuss songs from the playlists when it strikes me.
This is the summary of Part 1, "A Long Way Home" (published):
After the Battle for Winterfell, Jon was captured by Bolton men then later found by Daenerys not far from Dragonstone. Their meeting blossoms into the most honest love--until Jon suddenly leaves for Winterfell, only to return to Dragonstone months later with more terrifying tales of dead men and Winter storms. When Daenerys chooses to send her armies north to fight the dead, all is certain but the matter of their bond. After the pain they'd endured, can they come together again? Or will separation be too powerful to overcome? *or* A romantic tale of choice and second chances.
This is the summary of Part 2, "Awake For Ever In Sweet Unrest" (in-progress and unpublished):
Winter has come and further fractured the realm. Yet Jon and Daenerys's betrothal and alliance is well known throughout the Seven Kingdoms. The secret that threatened to break them has made their love stronger, casting a fragrance of hope that draws to the last Targaryens all who seek refuge from political turmoil. Cersei Lannister has fled King's Landing in favor of establishing a bank in Lannisport, to guard against her deposition by the Iron Bank. Euron Greyjoy has set up a naval blockade at Oldtown, yet manages to beguile the Hightowers. And Walder Frey's sundown years threaten to pull his House into a civil war. From the Wall, Jon and Daenerys begin to wage war on the Others. Yet the age of wonder and terror, of gods and heroes, leads them and their enemies in the least expected ways. It begs the question: does all happen the way it must? *or* A romantic telling of the new War for the Dawn.
This is what I've been doing the past few years: working, (dating lol), re-reading the books and joining theory discussions on other sites. What touched my heart was readers asking for me to continue the fic series. Even as I considered it, I was conflicted. Since the show and book canon are so enmeshed, I think we were really vulnerable to being whipped and scored by D&D. But we all found ways to lick our wounds. I'm grateful we were able to become closer and stronger. I'm glad to be a part of it.
So that's my preview. If you've read this far, thank you. <3
There's more to come.

The Great Contradiction
AKA, One Source Of My Agony
Been having some thoughts on the actual series of events of Swift Seas And Whirlwinds, and some salient points have made themselves clear to me.
Tagging @theprissythumbelina @athenswrites
Basically, the issue has to do with escalation. Specifically, how much both sides' higher leadership want to avoid it.
I haven't filled out the whole roster of all the key decision makers in SSAW, so for now this mostly applies to the 'heads of state', if you will, of both the United Commonwealth and Republic of Nouvolouis.
In short, despite their respective bluster and rhetoric, neither leadership actually wants to take the Islander War to its highest possible intensity. In the Nouvo leadership's case, once they'd struck the Formidable, seized a handful of Jasquettic islands, and landed on Paeroa, they're plan was to negotiate a fait accompli with the UC, getting them to accept Nouvoloian hegemony over its former imperial territories and the region at large. That being the case, the absolute last thing that any Nouvoloian leader wants is to have to fight a protracted conflict with the UC, an open war which would inevitably see the total defeat of the Republic's military and threaten the existence of the regime. Despite that reality, the streets and airwaves of the Republic seem to echo with jingoistic fervour, preaching of an overwhelming victory by the nation's invulnerable military, and promising yet greater glory to come.
On the other side of the Warp, the worst nightmare of the UC's current Chief Minister is almost the same thing. Despite the Commonwealth's overwhelming military capacity, a single glance across the 12 Worlds would show that suddenly waging 'total war' against a diplomatically well connected state like the Republic would be politically destabilising, even if they'd have the domestic mandate to do so, which is an open question. If at all possible, the UC would prefer to give up nothing, but at the same time only use the bare minimum strength to settle the matter.
The ways in which these contradictory intentions will manifest within the Islander War are what I hope to use to drive much of the tension and energy of the 'higher-level' narrative. Misread signals on both sides feeding the fires on both sides which clamour for stronger action and yet more force to be used. One side ups the ante, then the other, and it all feeds into each other as the bodies pile high. The sleepless nights both aboard ship and in windowless, smoke filled briefing rooms, as it slowly dawns on every just what kind of beast they've unleashed.
Of course, the real trick is making sure it works.

The companion Doctor
This Doctor Who meta was written way back in 2017. I’m publishing it on tumblr for Moffat Appreciation Day 2022, but it covers the entire time period between 2005 and 2016.
The companion as a Doctor figure has been a theme which Doctor Who has been fascinated with at least since Rose Tyler first appeared on our screens in 2005. One by one, every companion since then, from Rose Tyler to Clara Oswald, has come step into the role in some way or other, allowed to move in and out of the spaces on the show the Doctor inhabits.
For the entirety of the RTD and Moffat eras, the companion is treated as the main character. The show itself might be called “Doctor Who”, but the pilot of the 2005 revival is named “Rose”. Retroactively, it becomes tempting to read it as a kind of answer to the implied question of the show’s title.
After all, Rose does not merely travel the universe with the Doctor, soon throwing herself into danger in a way that equals the Doctor. By the time Rose returns in series 4, she becomes the clearest mirror image of the Doctor for quite some time. A traveler across universes, on a mission to save the world, with what might be a plan or what might be a ridiculous, untested idea.
Within the space of the same series, two more companions inhabit the Doctor role in ways which could not be more strikingly different. There is Donna, who literally merges with him, to combine her own extraordinary qualities with the abilities of his impossible mind. The DoctorDonna, as the songs have called her and will call her further on.
And, not to be forgotten, Martha Jones, mirroring one of the Doctor’s darkest days. Where Rose is the adventurous figure, where Donna exemplifies the power of his mind (ultimately tragically so), Martha’s journey with the Osterhagen Key calls to mind another soldier, another warrior, with a weapon that could destroy their own people and the Dalek’s plan alike. And she is, after all, quite literally a doctor.
By comparison, Amy’s story draws much softer, but not less meaningful parrallels. She, too, ultimately ends up as a seasoned traveler of time and space, but it’s much earlier in her story when Amy and the Doctor intersect in the most moving ways, in their shared loneliness and her desire to escape the weight of adulthood. Amy is running away in a TARDIS, just as much as the Doctor is. Even if she will, at some point, stop.
After all these different variations upon the same theme. it is Clara who brings the tale of the companion Doctor to its  conclusion. She truly gets to conquer the central myth of the show, to steal a TARDIS and run away. Though her death is just a final heartbeat away, we know her adventures will be infinite, its own kind of immortality. She even gets her own companion out of the deal.
Her Doctorness is not merely a sign of character growth or tragedy, or a stepping stone towards a different future she gets to shape, it’s a true, final triumph. For her, it’s on to Galifrey, the long way round. For the companion the future will tell, what kind of stories will be told.
Note: This was written before Bill first appeared on the show. I have some thoughts about how how later episodes relate to this topic, but they are less well-ordered. Maybe that supports my past impression that this is, in a way, one story told, that started in Rose and ended in Hell Bent. And what a story it was.

I bought a custom Yellowjackets varsity jacket off Etsy and here's the result
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The patch is exactly like the one from the show which is one of the things that I wanted and why I didn't like the official one from Paramount, and the coloring looks a bit weird but I think it's just the lighting. The font and material for the wording on the back isn't tv show accurate and that bugs me a bit.
The cost was about the same as the official one, and the etsy seller added like 2 inside pockets which is cool. All pockets can fit my phone which is an Samsung galaxy s20 FE.
