Why you should tag authors in your fic rec posts
Hello again. It's me. Honestly, I've felt this way for years, but I've never wanted to say anything until now, but honestly, I think it's time someone does. Every author is different, I recognize that, but with the uprise in reposters and plagiarism in the writing community on Tumblr, I feel like this post is important to make.
Keep in mind this is vastly a post regarding my own opinions of this matter, but if you are an author, or even a reader that agrees with any of the points here, feel free to share this to spread awareness.
So, without further ado, here are a variety of reasons you should tag and properly credit authors on your fic rec posts.
Believe it or not, fic recs are actually a very great source of feedback. When we're tagged when someone recs our fic, we get told, 'hey, this person likes our writing enough to tell other people about it, and share it with others who might like it as well!'. Without that tag, we have NO IDEA that you liked it enough to share it with others. Instead, our fic just gets reduced to the name or title we've labelled it as, and not the writer - the person, the human - who spent hours, days, weeks, months, or sometimes even years writing said piece that is linked to a recommended post. Supporting authors is so important, especially if you want them to continue writing!
That being said, and I don't know how many others will agree with me on this point, but I've always personally felt that people that don't tag authors on fic rec posts are almost trying to take credit for those particular stories. By not putting the author, it gives the allusion that the person making the post could have been the author of said story. Like, you can spare enough time and energy to link the post, but not hit a little @ key which takes about a third of the amount of time to do as it does to link the post? Given the amount of reposters and plagiarizers that are also on the rise lately on Tumblr, it just never sat right with me. The author put in the time and effort to create that story you're recommending. The least you could do is credit them with a proper tag.
Additionally, I just feel like it's common curtesy. Without a proper tag, to me, you're saying that the finished product is more important than the person behind said product who worked hard to create such a work for you to enjoy. If you can spend the time to make your fic rec post 'look nice', you can spend the two extra seconds it takes to tag the author. It shows you respect the person behind the writing as much as the writing itself. At least, to me.
Not tagging the author is essentially the same to me as if you never made the post in the first place. We have no idea about it unless we're lucky enough for it to pop up on our dash and we recognize our own piece of writing. I can't speak for others, but it literally makes my day when I see someone has tagged me in a fic rec post! Like, you cared enough to share my stories! You cared enough to tell people about me. It's one of the biggest compliments you can possibly give someone.
I know there are probably a plethora of other reasons as to why you should credit authors on fic rec lists and the like, but I've said the main points I want to here. If any other authors want to add any more reasons as to why you should tag them on fic rec posts, then by all means! Please, be my guest!
This post isn't meant to be a debate. I just felt it needed to be said, again, due to the rise in reposting and plagiarism that's been going around Tumblr recently, and also since it's just something I've always believed in.
Stories are meant to be shared. It's just nice knowing that our stories are being shared.

Introducing MAYbe I’ll Make This, the easiest month of prompts you’ve ever participated in happening this May 2023.
It’s a chance to share all those ideas you’ve been toying with that you might draw or write someday with no pressure to actually commit to finishing anything!
Participation can be as little as sharing a few words or a single sentence or as involved as a sketch or plot summary, it’s up to you!
What’s the point?
To fill our fandom tags with fun new ideas and stimuli to get everyone’s creative juices flowing. For fan creators ourselves, it gives us a chance to talk about our ideas with no pressure to deliver. And who knows, hopefully seeing people excited about our ideas might give us extra inspiration and motivation to maybe even work on them someday!
Here’s how it works:
Throughout May, post anything from a few words to a snippet from an idea you’ve been kicking around that you MAY draw or write someday and tag the related fandoms, if any. (Ideas that you've started, have actively in progress or have even started but abandoned are also welcome!) A few sentences about a fic you might write, a sketch you’re still figuring out, or even a long infodump about the AU of your heart, share as much or as little as you want!. It’s not a commitment to make anything, just a fun excuse to talk about your ideas.
Don’t have any ideas of your own? No problem! You can still participate by boosting the ideas that others post, asking questions and expressing your excitement about the ideas that appeal to you.
Anyone from any fandom is welcome to participate as well as original writers so please spread the word!
We’ve got 30 days worth of prompts to get you started that you can interpret anyway you like… or ignore entirely and do your own thing. Do all 30, pick and choose, do them out of order, whatever you want! The point is just to have fun and share your ideas!
That’s it! Just a super chill, low effort way for us all to celebrate those ideas taking up space in our brains that we aren’t quite ready to commit to making yet (or maybe ever).
Notes
Participants retain all rights to their ideas and first dibs on the writing / drawing of them.
Want feedback on your ideas? Encourage brainstorming? Happy to let someone else take your idea and write it themselves? Add a note to that effect to your post so people know what kind of interactions are welcome.
Please be supportive of others' ideas and keep overly negative opinions to yourself (especially if they did not ask for feedback). If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all!
You’re welcome to tag your posts with “MAYbe I’ll Make This” or link back to this post to explain the challenge but your host (me) won’t be sharing every post related to this challenge. This is just something I wanted to do for my own purposes to share all the ideas I may never get a chance to write but I’m opening the prompts list to anyone who might like to do the same.
Questions? Drop me an ask!

Okay, so for some weird reason, Tumblr isn't letting my replies stick. So, I'm so sorry to the people who replied to my post about Fanfic commenting. I'm not sure why the replies are not sticking, but I've already sent a support ticket about this issue. Just know that I've read them and I'll just post my replies here for the meantime... @nic-stars It really is heartbreaking. I remember getting replies that even theorizes what would happen next in my stories. Those were really interesting and fun. There were even really great constructive criticism ones that helped me grow as a writer and ones where you can feel connected with the reader and really being part of an incredible fandom. @aconstructofamind I feel fortunate that I haven't gotten a mean comment since returning. I'm all for criticisms as long as they are helpful, constructive, and worded in a way that doesn't demean or belittle anyone. It's really disheartening if meanness is now the norm, even when it comes to comments in fanfiction (or any fanwork). Also, I LOVE your handle. :D @pippinoftheshire Your handle made me smile, haha, thank you for that. Anyways, this should really be something brought back, and not because like we're starved for it (but, yeah, we are. a bit. haha), but also because it's a way for us to connect with our readers, too. Like, tell us how you feel (but in a way that doesn't demean or belittle what we made and poured our hearts out, please); tell us if we wrote something wrong and how can we make it better; tell us why you hated what this character did in the story or why you agree with their actions. Connect with us. We are part of the same community. @typicxlcato Don't be scared to be the first! Comments are always appreciated by authors. Even just a single phrase or just giving a quote that you loved from the story and telling the author you loved that? That can make anyone's day. :) @amliza By all means, haha. I'm currently on a commenting spree as well on all the fanfic's I'm currently reading. :D @she-elf4 The thing about an author/writer answering their own posited question of whether what they/we wrote or not is good is that we (often) are biased about it. That's why we need comments to tell us in what area we needed improving or if we did well. It's the same reason why book reviews exist. It's not just to tell others of why a book is good or bad, but to give an author a sense of what they need to improve on. I've never heard of commenting rules before, so that's a bit shocking for me. The only rule I adhere to when writing comments/reviews it to be kind and if I want to criticize an author for something, to do so in a constructive, respecting manner because I have to remind myself (and know from my own experience) that whoever wrote what I was reading poured enough of their time and talent (and maybe even a bit of their heart and soul) into that work. Honestly, though, I am curious about what these rules you speak of are.
@13flags Who ever said I (or anyone who agreed with this post) am/are only writing for reviews? I don't know where you got that from? Haha. The post I made pointed out that the reason I would love to get a review is for feedback, to grow as an author. If you write with only your own lens to view your own writing with no one to critique or comment on it, how will you know you are doing well? The reviews/comments I had the honor of getting from my own fics were kind enough to provide constructive criticisms, which is always good for an author. Also, it's nice to get validation for your writing, even if your objective is to share your stories to the world. Comments/Reviews are like symbolic to some (maybe most?) writers that they had been heard and can even be bridges for found friendships (as is the case with me. I made good friends from them). So, it's really nice.

End of the Year Survey Summary
Thank you all for all of you who left feedback this year! We’ve had the chance to look through your comments and, with the help of our new volunteer team, have distilled them into some actionable items. Now a community survey is nothing without the community, so here we’ll provide a summary of some responses, hint at some plans for the future, and share your best moments!
Full details under the cut, but in short: One new rec list focused event, many returning events, and look out for a quarterly theme coming near the end of the year.
007 Fest and WIP Wednesday are always at the top of the favorite events list, but it was nice to see some newer events were in the top five as well, like Remix and our Halloween commenting challenge. Both of which we plan on doing again this year.
There wasn’t really a huge consensus on whether you all prefer themes or prompts, so that won’t be changing much. We will keep sprinkling in specific prompt lists throughout the year, but some months will just have a broader theme for you to draw inspiration from.
A few people suggested doing more to encourage rec lists, and we are trialing a new event: Weekend Wonders. Once a month we will give a theme/trope/character and ask that you suggest one fanwork in which it features. We will then do a round-up post of all the recommendations at the end of the weekend. You can see the January one here.
It’s been some time since we had writing workshops and there’s been some requests for these again. We are working on trying to develop something with a simpler format so that it’s easier to host. If you want to help with this, please reach out and let us know!
There’s also some interest in creating a zine, but your mods know nothing of this. If any of you do and would be willing to create a community document of what it involves, please do and share it with us!
Saturday Cafes have been much quieter lately, but we now have a set of prompt questions pinned to the writer’s corner slack channel for anyone to answer and hopefully spark some more discussion with whoever else is around and writing.
We tried doing a year-long theme of Characters of Bond last year and it... well, middling success. You seemed to like the idea even though we sometimes forgot to promote it and many of you were busy. Someone suggested quarterly themes and we really like this idea. We likely won’t start until the end year, but we loved the idea!
You all said you do enjoy our creatively named months even if there’s not a specific prompt to go with it. Which is good, cause we enjoy coming up with silly alliterations. Those won’t be going anywhere.
And finally,
Do you have a fun fandom moment/highlight from this year to share?
Definitely Mac making her entry in the 00Q fandom! I’m not an avid fic reader but her work is always so on point I have a hard time not seeing 00Q through her lens anymore.
i'm obsessed with WIP Wednesdays. I adore seeing snippets of new works
Getting kidnapped during Fest was pretty cool!Honestly the slack in general has been fun. It's hard to have a place to feel safe in fandom these days.
I absolutely loved Remix! It was such a fun challenge and I loved seeing how my own work was remixed.
During Fest, Team 00 had a spreadsheet for contributions (like lyrics to be inspired by, photos, etc). The absolute chaos as we discovered only two of us knew how to use a spreadsheet was AMAZING (and hilarious).
I loved interacting with the authors and getting to know them through their writing and ongoing works and prompts.
Fest was awesome.
This year was a blast. I worked on 4 longish 00q fics (two of which were based on MI6 Cafe themes). My collaboration with Anya for Harry Potter and the Fucking Audacity was possibly the most fun (and also stressful because it was unplanned and I had other things to work on), but I also enjoyed writing my crossover AU and my NTTD fix it. Basically, toward the end of last year I was worried that I was running out of stories in this fandom, and the themes MI6 Cafe supplied definitely spurred new ideas that kept me excited and creative... even if I only used one or two of them in the year, they kept me busy much of the year. And Fest is always fun, but I particularly enjoyed this year. Seriously love you guys! I feel so fortunate that you maintain this wonderful fandom community and space that feels safe and I can contribute to, but that will survive without me when I get too busy with RL (or FTH) to participate much. Thank you!
I’ve enjoyed the fandom since joining, thanks for the work you do and spaces you keep!
Fest is usually a delight
I very much enjoyed the 007 fun Fest and being able to participate in the smaller, less time consuming challenges. It was the first time I had done something like this and my personal highlight was being able to come up with my very own 4 line poem in a bid to rescue the fic author from the villains team :D
For me it was just joining the fandom. I joined around the start of summer this year and it has been a blast so far. I don't engage in fandom spaces often and to join one that is so supportive and chill in its own way is definitely a highlight.
appreciate everything mods have done! This was a fun year.
Oh goodness: Fest. It was amazing! LOVE all the creativity! And it seems like it created a momentum throughout the year.
There have been so many moments for me, as a new member of the fandom, to be bowled over by the sheer talent and incredible camaraderie. Thank you, thank you, for the welcome and the amazing creative community!

WHY FEEDBACK + REBLOGGING IS SO IMPORTANT
Tumblr media
i just wanted to put this psa here so my followers or anyone who reads casually knows how important reblogging and giving feedback is. many writers and creators that make fanfiction for this platform have been getting so much hate and a lot of them have been deactivating their accounts because nobody interacts kindly with their posts. as a new writer, this terrifies me. people work so hard to make content that people will enjoy just for it to get hate / or no interaction at all. and it honestly put me off a little bit. hence why positive feedback is so important. it truly changes a writers day when someone leaves such thought - out feedback and love on their works. i am not saying this to seem ungrateful or selfish, because any love is greatly appreciated, but merely to get the thought out there that we put our work out there for others to enjoy. so it shows us that you enjoy it when you leave nice comments on your reblog or in the tags. continue to support your writers and please be kind on the internet. it is a scary place, so let's make a welcoming community together.~

Hey Dr. Grey. Do you have any tips for coping with anxiety in fandom spaces please? I would really value your advice.
oh, hello, anon.
i am...going to respond to this but i am first going to say its felt like the past few days my asks have gotten a bit nosy in regards to my...personal boundaries with fandom/who i talk to in fandom/why i do, why i don't etc etc etc etc. and that is fine, but will respond in a way that maybe is perceived to be more on the rude side. i am likely to be way more personable in DM's and asks i can respond privately to. this admittedly feels like its fishing for information and i'm not sure why? but, we shall respond.
--i don't know what...part of the fandom is bringing you anxiety, sweet anon, and i am sorry it is. fandom should be fun. i repeat, fandom should be fun. but sometimes it just straight up isn't, and im sorry. i'm...going to address this generically? because i honestly need more information about...the anxiety source to provide any sort of tips.
i am also going to be disclaimer this as: i'm generally not a person who gives to fucks what other people think of me. like if someone wants to talk? okay, have a nice day, so glad i gave you something to talk about. and i care....very little what a group of internet strangers, who are just here to read about gay wizards, think about me based on what i post. but here are...some tips that i use for having a better...online experience?
uhm...first tip is curate your experience. if there are people here causing you stress and anxiety (it might be people you follow, people who don't follow but see on your dash, certain ships, certain groups? idk) filtering and blocking. im very liberal with the block button, and i have no qualms about it. if someone is stressing you out/making you anxious and you're not sure why-- block them. if someone cares that i have blocked them, i have never gotten feedback about it so uh...i think people can move on, ya know?
*the rest is below the cut to avoid dash spam
second, "people aren't thinking about you the way that you're thinking about you"-- so here's the deal. im not going to sit here and be like "yah fandoms don't talk shit about other people in the fandom!" because that would be a lie.
we absolutely do. in our own separate little discord servers, but the thing is its usually about fandoms that don't...interact. example: i talk shit about the Pro-Snape fandom all the time! I don't get them! Ship and Let Ship but also what the fuck was hot snape summer. (and im not going into their asks and their pages, and being like WHAT THE FUCK), i am just ???? in my own little crew. and they're probably over in their crew being like "have you seen Grey's page, they don't even write snape ever." and its HORRIFYNG to them, but like....whatever? I don't care what they think.
but, people aren't thinking about you and your works and your blog the way that you're thinking about it. another wolfstar writer or page is someone we cheer on. we're all too wrapped up in our own unfinished WIP'S and silly little headcanons and lives to be concerned with what someone else is doing. if someone is shitting on my wolfstar or moonchaser or whatever in their own private little servers, good for them. again, so glad i gave them something to bond over! i'm building community through hate and i love that! but i love my wolfstar. and my 11 friends do too (or if they hate it, they're not telling me to my face, which is alright by me). that's all i can care about.
third, i love a good boundary. i really and truly do. and i know there is a pressure on tumblr and in the fandom communities to be like WARM AND INVITING AND CHATTING WITH EVERYBODY AND GETTING TO KNOW EVERYBODY all the time, but like...that's fake. you don't have to do it, if you don't want to! have two friends, have 8000 friends, whatever you want. if the people and the pressure and the NOISE is whats bringing you anxiety....tone it down.
you don't have to talk to everyone. you don't have to update every week. you don't have to respond to all your comments. you don't have to write a novel in the authors notes. you literally don't have to do anything you don't want to do. it is your space. you make your home however you want to make it. fandom is supposed to be fun.
make it fun again anon.
(also, i will reiterate that if you DM me, I will not bite. and can respond to this more appropriately.)

Yes! I haven't really read Dickens but yeah I think the names Havisham and Compeyson are from Great Expectations and there's Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol and lots more I didn't recognise--I think it might really add to the whole viewing experience if you know a little more about the characters they're all based on but I also think the series takes a lot of liberties with the way they're adapting them which isn't that surprising considering they're putting like a dozen different characters into one story.
I love that you have an English literature major! Like that just sounds so cool to me <3 I'm currently getting a master's degree in education and I'm always sad that literature (especially non german literature) is only such a small part of it. Although, that makes sense bc I'm studying to become a primary school teacher (I'll probably end up doing sth else tho) so ofc I can't just focus on literature 🙄😂 About the subtitles, I'm also just so used to having them on even if I don't need them most of the time so yeah it's a bit frustrating to not have them.
I'd recommend cooling your arm, but uhm someone once told me that's not good, so I'm not really sure about it. Maybe putting something soft beneath your arm while writing can help when you're leaning on it?
Super excited for the Chrissy alphabet! I'm so sad we didn't get to see more of her! I was at german comic con a few weeks ago and Grace is just the cutest. She walked past me and I was sooo flustered, I wish I could've spoken to her.
I'm always very nervous about talking to people here on tumblr so usually I just reblog fics and other things I like and put some emojis or thoughts in the tags but I wanna try and give more feedback bc your writing has brought me a lot of joy and I'm smiling whenever I see your name on my dash <33
–🍸🖤
honestly even as an English major I’ve not read too much of Dickens’ stuff, I specialised in modern horror literature so it was a bit far away from his stuff haha! but I do love Great Expectations and Christmas Carol but yeah I wouldn’t know any of his other characters either haha
ahhh that’s so cool!! I hope your masters is going well darling! primary school teaching sounds amazing so I wish you all the best in that pursuit! & yeah same! I’m just so used to subtitles now that I actually so thrown off and uncomfortable if I can’t have them on
omg that’s sooo cute!! Grace seems like such sweetheart! yeah I’ve actually just finished the Chrissy alphabet now so I’m gonna edit it and then probably post it tomorrow night <33
ahhhh please you are literally the cutest!! honestly even just people reblogging a fic with a bunch of emojis to summarise their feelings makes a writer’s day I promise! genuinely even the simplest and smallest of comments is enough to make us smile and kick our feet and shit! honestly I’m just so so glad you like my work and that’s managed to brining you some joy <33

tumblr seems to be very dead today and my post only has like 4 notes in the 2 hours it’s been up 🥴
#like I don’t ever expect many when I first post it#but considering Im kinda close to 600 I’d just expect a little more than 4 in 2 hours yk#idk interaction on posts makes me sad to look at lmao#especially when it’s like comments and feedback??? there’s literally nothing.#my top post has over 1000 notes. and the only comment is ‘🖤’#so like thanks for the emoji but that doesn’t help that much yk#but yeah idk readers leave comments and reblog s to support ur creators!! we end up getting burnt out from lack of feedback#like how can we know what you thought of a set of hcs or drabble or a fic when we have nothing to go off of apart from a like button#that doesn’t actually tell us anything about your reading experience#maybe you liked it so that u could find it later - maybe u liked it to acknowledge u had read it#it’s just yeah. oh my god and anon requests??? please. feedback is appreciated so much for those.#I genuinely think only one - maybe two - anons have thanked me or sent me an ask after writing their request to acknowledge they liked it#my moots requesting stuff is different bc they all understand the lack of interaction we face as writers and artists on here#anyway sorry#it’s like 11:30 I should get some sleep soon#but just give your writers feedback please!! it honestly makes our day to here you enjoyed it#you can reblog and put ur thoughts in the tags; you can just comment without the reblog; send an ask on or off anons#we just want some feedback from our lovely readers <3

guys, i hate to be doing this but it’s either i do, or i deactivate out of misery.
i’m done.
i’m done and tired, alright. i don’t know who do you think i am. maybe you think i’m some kind of machine, but i would really appreciate it if you interacted with my writing. and not just a tad bit more because i’m already only getting crumbs. i’m disappointed, okay, and i will hate myself for writing this but i have to. for those of you who comment on my work, inbox or in the tags or replies, or just reblog, thank you, i see you, and i love you. for the rest of you, who only come here to like and reblog my reblogs of gifs, why are you following me? i appreciate your follows, i really do, and they make me happy. i don’t want to sound like i’m pressuring everyone to do something they’re uncomfortable with, but it’s becoming unbearable. the more followers that arrive here, the less and less you guys interact. are you, by any chance, intimidated by me? because i honestly can’t find any other reason you would personally follow me then ignore me when i post.
look, i don’t want this to sound like some selfish attention seeker crying out for attention. i never speak about this. i don’t reblog posts about how people should interact more because i don’t want to appear annoying. but waking up today, i realized that if i don’t let my thoughts out there, they will ruin me. ever since danse macabre, and the major disappointment from tumblr, i’ve been finding no will in me to write. i want to write. there’s so much i want to share with you guys. but i can’t do it when it feels like i’m talking to a wall.
and no. don’t tell me i shouldn’t mind the numbers and should write for myself. that’s bullshit, okay. not when i’ve been around for this long and have accumulated a decent audience. i’ve seen it with my own eyes. that dumb felix blurb hit 200 in 24 hours. it took me 30 minutes to write. it is now at 600 notes. the minho fic that required hours of worldbuilding and research then two months and 20 days of writing? it has been up since october and it’s at 177. you tell me. is this fair for me? i know people have a preference, but you chose to follow me, knowing that this is the kind of content i mainly write. make it make sense.
we don’t write for free. we write at the cost of our time and energy. those things aren’t free. i could be doing so many other things instead of writing, but i do it because i love it. when i see that people are following me for it, showing interest in it, i expect something in return.
if you’re a reader, then please, hear us out. stop trying to shut us down and call us dramatic. stop saying we’re assholes or attention seekers for talking about this. if you aren’t a content creator, you have no say in this. if you consume, then you must give back in the form of feedback. or at least a reblog. i appreciate your likes but frankly, they do me no good.
i apologize for my outburst but if you don’t want to read my things nor even interact with me then be my guest and unfollow me. i was happy to hit 1k but i don’t see the charm in it anymore.
if you want to reblog this and aren’t a writer i want your complete silence in the tags. you either show support or you stay silent.

Dear fanfic readers...
I want to start this by saying I love you all. Seriously. I honestly wouldn’t still be writing fanfic if you guys didn’t exist. And I think that’s probably true of a lot of writers. We thrive on readers enjoying our work, leaving kudos/comments, reblogging, sharing with friends, etc. And 99% of people who read/comment don’t fall into this category.
But I have to address something. Er, I have to address a few somethings. Tonight, one of my dear friends received a nasty comment on one of their fics. It was, frankly, a mean rant disagreeing about the choices said writer made in the chapter update. But what really struck me was what they said at the end of the comment—that they admire the author’s work and that they are excited about future chapters. Which to me, meant that they meant their comment as a constructive criticism rather than to be purposefully hateful.
Which leads me to my first “something”:
Long comments about things you personally disagree with in a story is not constructive criticism.
I say this as someone who gives actual constructive criticism to writers for a living. Calling someone’s work horrible or hollow or misguided or flat or [insert long list of other adjectives I’ve seen non-writers call someone’s work] isn’t constructive criticism. It’s not constructive. It’s just mean.
Moreover, constructive criticism has to be founded on mutual trust. If you’re commenting on ao3 or Tumblr or Twitter on someone’s work who did not ask you specifically for constructive criticism, that trust isn’t there.
You’re welcome to your opinions about someone’s story or work. But you are not welcome to share those negative opinions when you don’t have consent. Even when you DO have consent, that constructive criticism needs to be well-structured to include real reasons why something isn’t working in a story (”I don’t personally agree with this choice” is not an example of a real reason) and ways to improve. That respect is the very least a writer deserves when someone is asked (notice how I bolded asked, bc it’s fucking important) to give feedback on work that they spent time and effort on.  Which leads me to my next “something”:
Fanfic is provided for free, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t cost something.
I saw a post on here recently (linked here) that talked about how fanfic is provided at no cost to the reader, but that doesn’t mean it’s “free” for the writer. And this is something I think some non-writers don’t quite understand.
Writing a story—whether it be based on characters from a TV show like this fic or based on original characters of your own creation—is a lot of fucking work. It takes hours of your time and so much mental energy. There's the planning and the plotting and the actual writing and the editing and the working up the nerve to post it so that others can see it and hopefully like it. And all of that labor, all of that emotional/mental/physical labor is done for free. So that the stories in our heads and hearts can exist and so that readers can enjoy them.
EVERY choice is thought out. Every. Single. One. Every conversation is considered, every dialogue tag is placed with intention, every choice the character makes is one we make first. And do we always agree with the choices our characters make? Do these choices always perfectly mirror what would likely happen in real life or even if another write were to have written the story? No, not always. But damn if we didn't have a reason for letting them make them regardless. Every facet of a story is considered—especially for longer fics.
So hours of work and a mountain of emotional, mental, and physical energy is put into a fic. Writers open up a door for readers to see into our minds and hearts and souls for these stories. And the very least readers can do is tell us when those stories resonates, and be kind and respectful regardless of if it resonates or not. Deciding to shit on a story because you don't personally agree with the direction the story is headed? That's heartbreaking. And irritating. And frankly unmotivating.
Which brings me to my final “something” of this post:
Negativity and indifference are killing Fandom.
We’ve all seen how Fandom (and I’m not just talking about one specific fandom, I’m talking about capital-F Fandom as a whole) has gone downhill in recent years. There’s less engagement with works, less discussion happening between readers/creators/writers/casual viewers of a fandom, and more writers/creators leaving Fandom behind.
That’s mostly because of negativity and indifference.  There are a lot of posts about how people (and I include myself in this because I really need to do better, and I’ve been trying) need to make a mindful effort to comment on fics you like, kudos fics you like, reblog, retweet, converse with your favorite writers/creators, etc. So I won’t harp on that again here.
But negativity is another culprit here. Putting a fic or a piece of art out into the world is terrifying. More terrifying to some than others, but there are nerves and anxieties that go into it no matter who you are. And unlike paid authors publishing books or showrunners air tv shows, the only thing we get in return are the kudos/comments/reblogs/retweets from readers. That’s it. So when we put hours of time and effort and those little pieces of our soul into works only to be met with indifference or hateful comments (even when they are misguided attempts at constructive criticism), it makes the benefit of all that work less and less appealing.
I’ve seen too many writers abandon works and leave fandoms (including t100 fandom, specifically the bellarke fandom) because of this. And I hate it. We have too many talented writers and creators for that. Moreover, the world needs those talented writers and creators to keep making things they love for it to keep spinning (a topic for another long Tumblr post).
So how can Fandom be a better place for writers/creators?
First thing’s first, participate. See a piece of art you loved? Reblog it. Read a fic you adored? Comment something to that effect. Find authors or creators you admire? Reach out to say hey! Or just hit the follow button and interact with posts if you’d rather not say hi. We appreciate all of it and love you immensely for it.
But the kicker once you start participating is doing it mindfully. Think about what you’re commenting and whether it’s helpful or harmful. A long string of emojis bc you can’t put how much you loved a fic into words? We love to see it. Novel-length tags in your reblogs about your favorite lines? Will probably make our day. DMs or asks about upcoming chapters or fic ideas? We’ll scream our joy and talk your ear off.
A rant about how you thought the characterization of Bellamy in this fic was off? That’s not helpful if the writer didn’t ask you specifically for that kind of feedback. And hateful comments about how a fic needs to be updated sooner or how a certain update didn’t mean your qualifications for how you personally wanted a story to continue? Definitely not helpful (and a honestly a dick move).
I have no qualms about speaking on behalf of all fanfic writers when I say that we LOVE every single person who reads our shit. We thrive on people reading our stories and then telling us and their followers how much they loved it. No (kind) comment goes unnoticed or unappreciated.
So please, please, please spread kindness whenever you can to writers and creators. <3
All my love,
A fanfic writer who is terrified that negativity is going to drive all my fandom friends away, and who might get carpal tunnel if I have to write another novel-length rebuttal to someone being an ass on AO3 to one of my friends

First fic ever! Honest feedback time!
This is my first ever fan fiction and I want your complete honesty. If you love it, great! If you hate it, that’s totally fine! If you have any tips or suggestions for a first time writer let me know!
Secrets: Yondu x Reader
A/u where Yondu survived Ego, and the guardians are still aboard the quadrant....
For a couple months now, Mantis could tell something was wrong with her best friend. You were always so cheery and up-beat. You would never tell her what was bothering you, no matter how much she asked. This was completely unlike you because you always told Mantis everything. She wanted to know what was making you feel and act so weary and tired. You seemed so stressed and the others started to notice too. Anytime someone would ask what was bothering you, you would just shrug it off and make something up. But the excuses were getting old.
“Come on y/n, I bet you would feel so much better if you just got it off your chest.” Peter poked you in the side as he bugged you about it for what felt like the millionth time. “Plus, I’m just super curious now. You’ve been sulking for weeks.”
“Just leave me alone Peter!” You snapped. You winced at your words and then took a deep breath. He was just trying to help. It’s not his fault you felt this way. “Look, I’m sorry. I’m just dealing with something personal right now, and I would prefer to do it on my own.”
You heard those signature clunking boots come through the doorway behind you, “Do what on yer own?” Yondu asked with his hands on his hips and a quizzical look on his face.
Yondu and Kraglin were still hanging out on the Quadrant with the Guardians since the events with Ego. They were in the process of getting a new ship and a new crew after Yondu blew their old crew to all hell.
“Nothing. It’s absolutely nothing, Yondu.” You were irritated. Yondu was the one person you didn’t want to push away, but you felt like you had no other choice. You tried to push past him and leave the room, but his large hand caught your shoulder.
He looked you dead in the face, and you turned your eyes from him. You couldn’t keep your knees in check if you caught those crimson eyes for too long. His voice was low, “Hey, we don’t do solo missions and we don’t work alone. Ya got something ya have to do, ya take someone with ya. Ya already know that.”
“This isn’t about some mission.” You kept your stare at the floor between your feet as you continued. “I’m not going anywhere, just - leave me alone.” You pulled your shoulder away and quickly returned to your bunk.
You walked into the cabin that you and Mantis shared, throwing yourself onto the bottom bunk in a huff. You let out a long sigh with your face in the pillow. You were too emotional to think straight. You’ve never felt so many conflicting emotions at once and it was driving you insane! If you didn’t vent soon, you’d explode. Nervousness, happiness, guilt...the list goes on. Nervous, because Yondu gives you butterflies to which the likes couldn’t be described. Happy, because you get to spend every single day around him...but on the other hand you feel guilty because you don’t want to put anyone in a weird position. He’s Basically Peter and Kraglin’s dad! His age didn’t bother you one bit, but you certainly didn’t want to ruin any family dynamics going on around the ship. You could accept the truth in your head, but saying it out loud was a whole other matter. The truth was, you had fallen in love. Stupid, annoying, nerve wracking, inconvenient, love. Everything about this situation was so messed up.
Part of you wanted to just give in and fall straight into the arms of the man you’d fallen for. The other half of you was screaming at you to keep your mouth shut. So far, the screaming side of you has been winning. You honestly didn’t think he would return your feelings, and you genuinely thought he was way out of your league. He was brave, strong, smart, cunning, and downright gorgeous. You were short, clumsy, a little curvy, and the weakest of the team. The only thing you had going for you (and the only reason you were able to join the team) was your incredible shooting abilities. Back on Terra, you were super talented with firearms. The transition from guns to blasters wasn’t too bad. You knew Terran guns inside and out. You were definitely a good shot, and you weren’t afraid of anything - except maybe your feelings for the Centaurian on board. Over your time with the guardians you got really good with intergalactic weapons, with some help from Rocket of course.
“Y/n..........Y/N!”
You jumped out of your thoughts, sat up in your bunk and looked frantically at Mantis who was eagerly trying to get your attention. “Are you okay?” She asked with a curious, yet concerned, expression on her face.
“Ugh, yes, Mantis. I’m fine. For the thousandth time, I’m just fine.”
“I don’t believe you. Something is wrong, and you leave me no choice. You mean a great deal to me, and I need to help. I am very sorry, but I feel I have to do this.”
Before you could get another word in, Mantis had her hands gripped around your wrist. Just as you began to pull away, her antennae glowed their bright yellow light and her eyes burst open to look at you.
“Mantis, please, you are my best friend in this entire galaxy. Probably in the entire universe - you cannot tell anyone!”
She stared at you, wide eyed. She couldn’t believe what she felt. So many emotions at once. It was such a surprise! Regardless, she was very excited for you.
“Y/n, this is so exciting! It is happy news. But, also confusing. You feel so many things. Why must this be a secret?”
“Because!” You shouted, a little louder than you intended. “Mantis, this isn’t what you think. If this gets around it could jeopardize the entire team. He may not feel the same way I do, and that would be a humiliating disaster. Look, if it helps, all you have to do is wait until Yondu and Kraglin are able to leave with their own ship and crew, and then once that happens you can shout it to the stars. Deal?”
A low, raspy voice travels through the doorway interrupting your conversation, “so, what happens when Kraglin and I get our own ship and leave?”
You and mantis snap your heads toward the door with nervous expressions. Yondu’s presence and voice sends a chill down your spine. Butterflies are bursting into a frenzy in your stomach. You both just stare at him, completely unsure of what to say.
“Well?!” He boomed. “Why ‘ave ya been acting so fidgety ‘round me lately? And wha’s sis ‘bout waiting fer me and Kraglin ta leave?”
Mantis looked at you, then back at Yondu, and back at you again. “Y/n, you know I care for you very much, and you are my best friend, but I think this is something you two need to talk about.” With that, she ducked past Yondu and fled the room.
You stood up and yelled at her as she ran, “THANKS BESTIE! I’LL GET RIGHT ON THAT!”
You turned to look at Yondu, who was still sporting that classic scowl he wears all the time.
“What?” You snapped. You seriously hated being so crass with him, but building walls was your specialty, and it was the only way to protect this weird little family you’d grown to love. If Yondu ever found out how you felt, it could all come crashing down. Not only could you lose him, but everyone else too.
He eyed you suspiciously, “Ya know, I only known you for a coupl’a months, and you don’t seem right. Mind tellin’ me what that’s ‘bout?”
“No.” You said flatly. “I have nothing to tell.” Heat was rising to your cheeks as you lied right through your teeth.
“Ya lyin’. You’s a bad liar ya know it?”
“I’m not lying.”
“Fine, if ya won’t tell me, I guess I’ll go pry the information I need outta poor little ol’ Mantis.”
“Leave her out of this! She doesn’t know anything.”
“Ah, so there is somethin’? I knew you was lyin’.”
You began to get defensive. “Yondu! UGH just stay out of it! I don’t need to tell you anything! I don’t want to tell you anything.”
Yondu turned his back on you as if he were going to leave. You felt a quick moment of relief until you heard the door slam shut and the bolt click into the door frame. Shit.
He turned to face you again, he took one large stride toward you, and now he was just inches from you. Those butterflies from earlier were trying to come up your throat, but it was getting so tight you could barely breathe. Your mouth was dry, and you swallowed hard to push them back down.
“Now, ya gonna tell me what I wanna know. Why’sit so important that Kraglin and I leave? You plannin’ somethin’?” His voice was intimidating and came out as a rumble. His words made you realize that, even after all this time with the Guardians, he still didn’t trust you completely.
You put on your best poker face and said, “No, I’m not planning something. Stop being paranoid. I would never hurt anyone on this team. Especially not you!” You froze at your last words. Damn it...maybe he won’t think too much into it.
His eyes blazed into yours for what felt like an eternity. You broke eye contact by rolling your eyes and scoffed, “Ugh - I don’t need this.” You tried to push past him and unlock the door, but it was no use. He caught your arm and pulled you back to him. His touch lit your entire body on fire.
“Ohhh ho, no ya don’t. You ain’t gettin’ outta this. Spill. Now. There ain’t no secrets on this ship.”
“But you aren’t the Captain here, Peter is.” You protested.
He shrugged and crossed his arms in front of his chest, “Okay, yer right. I’m not the Captain here. But I am the one you’ll hafta get pass’ to unlock the door.”
“You’re so infuriating! Why are you even on this?! Why is this so important to you?!” You could feel yourself getting more and more defensive.
“I don’t like secrets.” Yondu said matter of factly.
Of course he doesn’t, you thought to yourself. He just dealt with a pretty nasty mutiny a few months ago. With a deep breath you relaxed, “Look, all I’ll say is this: I am not planning anything, I am not going to hurt anyone, and you really don’t need to worry. I’m going through some personal stuff and, like I told Peter, I just want to deal with it on my own.”
He pondered your words for a moment. “Fine.”
“Fine?” You asked.
“Yep, fine.” He turned to unlock the door and walked out, leaving the door open behind him.
That was definitely weird. He let it go just like that. It wasn’t like him to just let stuff go. You decide to keep to yourself for the rest of the day, buried in your thoughts.
Yondu, however, was not done with this. He waited a while before making his move. After an hour or so he went to find Mantis. She was up front on the flight deck chatting with Drax.
“Mantis, come ‘ere. I need to ask you somethin’.”
She looked at the Centaurian hesitantly. She stood and walked to him, fiddling with her hands. “Did you and y/n talk about what’s been bothering her? It was such a surprise to me, but I am very happy! I hope she will be happy too. You are a very good man.” She said discreetly.
Yondu just stared at her, totally lost. Mantis picked up on his confusion rather quickly. She began to fidget and shift nervously.
She leaned in and whispered softly so Drax wouldn’t hear, “She did not tell you? Oh, no. Well, I cannot tell you anything. I am her best friend and she is mine and I will not tell!”
Yondu lowered his voice as well, “Look girl, I’m juss as worried about ‘er as you are. All I’m askin’ is for a way to help.”
Mantis thought his words over, and hesitated. “I don’t know...she seemed very intent that you never find out. If she didn’t tell you, I don’t know if I should.”
“Come on girl, ya wanna make sure she’s alright, right? I thought you’s was friends. Besides, I sorta have an idea of what’s goin’ on anyways. Juss tell me.”
Mantis’s big, innocent heart won her over and she decided it would be best to tell him if it meant helping you.
“Y/n has been experiencing very much stress and anxiety because she likes you. More than likes you, loves you. There is very much love and sexual desire. She is nervous, excited, and happy, and angry, and sad, and feels guilty too. I felt it all right before you walked in on us talking about her conflicting emotions. It was very confusing. I certainly would not like feeling that way. She is afraid that if you found out, you would reject her and she would have to leave. But...I don’t want her to leave.” Mantis slumped her shoulders at her last words.
Yondu didn’t know what to say. You liked him? Loved him even? But why all that other stuff too? He had to find out. No more games, no more secrets. “Thanks girl, ya been a big help.” Yondu patted her shoulder and walked from the flight deck back to the bunking area.
Yondu sighed and knocked softly on the door. “Mantis, I told you I’m not talking anymore! I’m fine!”
The door quietly opened. “It ain’t Mantis.” Yondu said gently. “Can I come in?”
You sit up on your bunk and look at him, “Sure, feel free to lock the door while you’re at it.” You said sarcastically.
He grinned over his shoulder at you, and locked the door. “You and I gotta talk.”
You begin to panic, it’s happening. He knows, Mantis squealed. “What did Mantis say? I told her not to say anything!”
“Don’t blame her, it ain’t her fault. I made her tell me.” Yondu said with a sly smirk. “So - now that it’s out there, let’s talk.”
The butterflies were back in an instant and about to burst out of your mouth, but what came out instead was just plain sad, “Let’s just get this over with. You’re gonna tell me you know how I feel about you, and then I’m gonna say ‘yeah it’s true, I do like you - like a lot’, and then you’re gonna say, ‘well, sorry, I don’t feel the same way’, and then I’ll take that rejection and shove it way down into the depths of my soul. After that, you turn around and walk out, and I start packing. Okay, great. Are we done?” You stood up and walked toward your trunk that contained your belongings to hide your humiliation and distract yourself.
Yondu looked at you with slight surprise on his face and chuckled. “Uhh no. That ain’t what I was gonna say at all. What I was gonna say was, ‘m flattered. Truly. Women ain’t exactly chasin’ after me these days. I’m just a washed up ravager. No crew, no ship, and I ain’t as young as I used ta be.” He rubbed the back of his neck as he continued. “A pretty young thing like yasself shouldn’t be pinin’ over someone like me. I ain’t worth it.”
You snapped your head his direction and almost yelled, “EXcUSe ME?! Not worth it?! Do you even hear yourself?”
The Centaurian stood there, dumbfounded as you continued.
“Do you have any idea who you are?!” Here it comes - word vomit. You couldn’t stop, it all came pouring out like dumping water out of a bucket. “You are Captain Yondu Udonta. The fiercest Captain of the 100 Ravager Clans! You’re known across the galaxy! You have more experience in open space navigation, survival, and armed combat than I could ever dream of having. You’re incredibly strong, and cunning, and more charming than any man I’ve ever met. AND you’re just plain handsome. Not to mention that arrow of yours! Don’t ever sell yourself short, because you are more than worth it....if anything, I’m not worth it!
Before you could continue your rant, Yondu quickly stepped toward you, whirled you around and pulled you away from your trunk to kiss you passionately. His lips were the perfect combination of rough, yet soft. He tasted strongly of whiskey, and his hands roamed over your body until one twisted its way into your hair and the other pulled you into him by your waist. The kiss was open mouthed, hot, needy, and absolutely perfect. You wrapped your arms around his neck and kissed him back desperately and you felt a little chuckle fall from his lips as he pulled away, leaving you breathless.
“Ya have no idea how long I’ve been wantin’ ta do that.” He said.
“How long?”
“A few weeks after Peter introduced us. Ya started ta really prove yaself with this group a misfits, an’ the rest of ‘em really took to ya. Including me. I never imagined ya’d be fond of someone like me.”
You both stood in your bunk area holding one another closely. “Well, I have to be honest, I didn’t expect this to happen in a million years.” You admitted.
Yondu pushed you to arms length to get a better look at you. “Why’s that?” He asked.
“Well I mean....look at me? I’m just a dumb little Terran. I’m weak and I barely know anything about space. I’m so new to it all, and I don’t exactly fit in around here. You guys have such incredible abilities and talents. I’m just...me. Terran. What I wouldn’t give to be like...I don’t know, Gamora. She’s breathtakingly beautiful and a total badass! I’ve been contemplating going back to Earth anyway because I just feel like I’m holding you all back.”
Yondu looked over your body and face admiringly and said softly, “I am lookin’ atcha, and none ‘a that’s true. I’m glad your here, and I’m sure as hell glad we met.” He grinned down at you, showing off those gold capped teeth. He leaned in to kiss you once more, deeply.
He pulled away lightly to whisper on your lips, “I can show ya everythin ya ever wanted to see, and teach ya everythin ya ever wanted to learn about bein’ out here.
I ain’t lettin’ you get away.”

This series was AMAZING! I loved every second of their story and I was hooked from beginning to end!

Loved how their banter was so on point and Sam was so gentle with Dean.
Reassurance by @ samsexualdeancurious

Three Plus One Equals Four by @ samsexualdeancurious
Thoroughly impressed with how she balanced four guys so well, it can be daunting to write but she did well and it was hot!
Pineapple & Pizza by @ cloverhighfive
Because writing miscommunication & confusion over a pineapple sex meme is the Destiel trope we never knew we needed! Dean's promise to Cas he can see his "little pineapple" later was so damn CUTE.
White Chapel by @bees0are0awesome [Editor's Note - Bees appears to no longer be at this URL. If anyone knows them and where they've moved to, please let us know!]
This Destiel Jack-the-Ripper(esque) thriller was suitably chilling. The way she characterized TFW was so well done and the research put into the fic, even so the characters spoke in the period English vernacular, was incredible.
Wedding Gift by @lifeisdabubbles-undersalmondean
As a Chevy enthusiast, I love authors giving Baby some love. Getting to drive Baby would be a dream come true, I loved it!

I Fell For You by @luci-in-trenchcoats
This story is a true masterpiece! The relationship from the very start of the series, up until this point is something I love to read about. It's just so healthy and real feeling that I just can't get enough of it. This series brings me an immense sense of comfort, which is one of the things I look for in a series. Michelle does an exceptional job at it on a regular basis, and yet, can still knock me off my feet with it. This series is a must read!
A Little Trip - Amusement Park by @mariekoukie6661
So proud of Marie for finishing this fic!! It is everything I want for the Winchester brother's to experience!! It's fun, and sweet! Marie did an amazing job with it ♥
Perfect by @ mrswhozeewhatsis
Honestly, I just love this fic! It hurts me in the best ways and it reminds me of the reason why I fell in love with fanfiction. The way my heart tugs in my chest reading this is one of the best feelings I have. I search and long for fics like this and this one is perfect (no pun intended). Michelle does an amazing job at making me feel!

Toes In The Sand by @fangirlxwritesx67
This ripped my heart out of my chest but then wrapped it sugar coated candy and put it back.
F*** the SPN ending. THIS. THIS RIGHT F****** HERE is how it ended and no one can tell me otherwise. I’ve been looking for something for so long that would ease some of the hurt of the show being over and HATING the idea of Sam living a life without Dean. But this healed this fangirls heart.
[Editor's Note: Consider this nomination seconded!! This is so good!!
~*~*~
Nominated by @slytherkins
One Plus One Makes Five by @thegirlwhorunswithwinchesters

~*~*~
Nominated by @peridottea91
Sleep Tight by @thinkinghardhardlythinking
This was all manners of hot and was just a different concept than what I usually see from smut fics, especially Sam x Reader fics. I loved it!! 10 out of 10!!!
~*~*~
Nominated by @wildfirewinchester
A Stranger In Need by @percywinchester27
This is by far one of my favorite Sam fics lately. He's witty and kind, and he doesn't reveal everything about himself up front, even though he never lies or covers up the truth. Ana writes his character so well in all of her stories, and the reader is both relatable and believable. I swoon every time I read this fic because a) I love Sam Winchester, b) it's beautifully written and I can focus on what's happening instead of trying to decipher what the writer is trying to say, and c) it's such an interesting plot that it pulls you write in!
~*~*~
Nominated by @katelynw93
Trainwreck by @msmarvelouswinchester
This fic was so beautifully written and it made me feel so many different emotions. It was heartbreaking and full of so much angst and fluff and uuuugh, there aren't enough words to describe this fic. It's wonderful. <3
Hunted (series) by @that-one-gay-girl
This series and this author are both wonderful. There are so many emotions that have been put into this series and I'd be a mistake not to read it! <3
Always There by @sams-sass
This fic brought me to literal tears. It was so thoughtful and sweet and exactly what I needed to read when I read it! It's amazing and so wonderfully written.
Sweet Dreams by @winchest09
This fic made me feel so many, many good things. I looooved very bit of it! If you're a Sam girl than this is DEFINITELY the fic for you!! It's hot and steamy and just... delicious. It's a must read!
~*~*~
Nominated by @cloverhighfive
Sticks and Stones May Break My Bones, but Words Might Get Me Laid by @slytherkins
You know how it is. You've read a few things from an author and then BAM you find a thing you haven't read and OH
This one, it's got a great progression, a great pull and tug between wanting, needing, but being stuck. And then it's hot and soft in the best of ways, so much consent, and even if it's hot it's fluff. Cas and Dean are so in character. It's the best of everything.
And of course, keeping it as close to canon feels as possible, that little angsty twist.
But oh. They're together so that counts for everything.
~*~*~
Nominated by @fictionalabyss
Fairy Tale by @wingedcatninja
I haven't had a lot of time for reading lately, but I've been enjoying the little prompt drabbles that have started coming out for June. So far this one is my favourite that had me laughing. I can just picture Dean's crazy frantic screams rofl. I'm genuinely very excited to see what the rest of the month holds.
~*~*~
Nominated by @peridottea91
In Search Of A Happy Ending by @idreamofplaid
Omg this story!!!! It was domestic and short but sweet and fluffy!!!! Just *chef's kiss* perfection!!!
Tumblr media
THANK YOU ALL FOR THE AWESOME WORK AND GREAT FEEDBACK!
These are not actual awards! This system is set up so everyone in the Pond has a chance to share the love and promote a fic/author that has grabbed your attention. The more people that participate, and the more everyone remembers to submit their own fics after posting, the better this will be :D
THANK YOU ALL AGAIN, KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK, AND AS ALWAYS, HAPPY WRITING!

Lazy Klonnie/Bonnie Week 2021
It seems as though our numbers are dwindling and since I don’t really have the time I once had to create a beautiful graphic, here I am stepping out on faith with just my words to get the creative juices going. For those of you still out there with an interest and a need, I invite you to participate in Lazy Klonnie Week. Post those long forgotten WIPs, drabbles, head cannons, pics, ideas, anything Klonnie related. To keep with a theme, please see the below schedule.
Sunday April 4: Forgotten WIPS Day
Post whatever you have or whatever you’ve deleted off the internet in the past. I think we can all agree that at this point, anything, finished or not, is better than nothing. :) As a writer, I know it’s easy to get caught up in perfection but as a reader, I implore you to post anything. (I understand how scary this is lol, but do it. If its not perfect, no one cares but you.... and that one anonymous reader that secretly hates on you but they don’t count.)
Monday April 5: Adopt a Fic Day
Create fanfiction of your favorite fanfiction. I cannot express this part enough but, if you can, contact the original author for permission and, at the very least if they’re no longer around, GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE! Do not steal. I will find you and fight you personally. No cap. Create your own fairytale ending of what you wished happened in a story or create an entirely new spin-off. (BUT MAKE IT YOUR OWN!) As a writer, I’ve always secretly wished someone would do this with something I’ve written because honestly sometimes I think my shit sucks and know that someone could do my crappy idea way more justice lol. (If you absolutely don’t want anyone touching your work, let me know and I’ll make it known.)
Tuesday April 6: Review a Defunct/Abandoned/Old Fic Day
Silent readers, keep reading. I know you’re out there. You tell on yourselves all the time. You message writers years later like “I LOVED YOUR STORY...” but yet there are no reviews to back up your claim lmao. Go back and review a story that touched your life. Hell, this don’t even have to be Klonnie related just do it. Let me tell you, it works. I had a reader write a review to one of my stories that touched me so deeply, it revived my entire writing career, no cap. Sis pulled me from the depths of hell. Thanks girl. Her excitement for my story brought me back after I’d abandoned it for FIVE DAMN YEARS. Anything is possible. Go show someone you care and tell them how their writing of Klonnie (or any pairing) made you feel. Even if they’re long gone, they will get that email notification and they will see it and who knows, they may come back. Awake those sleeping giants! A lot of content creators disappear because there is no audience.
Wednesday April 7: Graphic Creators Day
Post what you got and keep it moving. Post those drafts, finish a gif-set from 800 years ago that you’ve abandoned (I know I have one). Just offload what you have because years from now, no one will care about how perfect it was, just that it’s there.
Thursday April 8: Drabble/Head Cannon Day
Unleash those endless strings of thought onto us. Share ideas of what you wished happened, what you wish you had the chance to read. Rant about Bonnie’s injustice for old times sake. Put your ideas out there and hopefully, someone will pick it up and run with it.
Friday April 9: ...Pick It Up And Run With It Day
Take those ideas and do something with them. Anything. Help.
Saturday April 10: Give Back Day
Write a Comedy. Write a Shakespearean tragedy. Write something. Even if you’ve never written a single thing in your life, try. Don’t be a silent reader all your life. If not, thank a content creator for what they’ve done. We wanna read/consume media too. We get tired reading each other’s stuff over and over again lol. Not that it’s not good but we want to see knew people, new ideas, new perspectives. Rewrite the entire TV show from a nosey neighbor’s perspective or something.
Sunday April 11: Free Day
Enjoy what you’ve had a hand in creating this week.
You have a week to spread the news and get on board.
I’ve noticed in the tags the concern behind our dwindling numbers and that’s largely because content is being consumed without positive feedback and encouragement. I’m not saying it’s absolutely mandatory but in a way, it is. If you want the plant to grow, you gotta water it baby. :)
You may post on any platform but be sure to link it in the tag below so that we can all track it efficiently.
Official Tag:  #KlonnieWeek2021
Happy Shipping! :)

Here's a quandary I've suddenly found myself in: where do you stand on writers deleting their own works, fanfiction or otherwise? I've had this happen to me on more than one occasion - I go to look for an old favorite and find it's since been deleted from whatever site I read it on.
On the one hand, I'm inclined to think that, "Sure. The author wrote it, it's their call. I don't own the work - I certainly didn't pay for it. It's their decision, even if it's disappointing."
But at the same time I can't help but consider the alternative - if I believe in death of the author (and I do), that an author's work fundamentally isn't solely theirs once it's been published, posted, etc., then it also seems wrong to have a work deleted. Stories aren't the sole property of their creator, after all.
But then I circle back. D'you think there are different obligations between authors and readers and the works being made in fandom space? I know if I had bought a book and the author decided they wanted it back, I would feel pretty comfortable telling them no, given I'd paid for it and whatnot. But that's a different world from fanfic and fandom space generally.
So. You're insightful Clyde, I'm curious as to what you'll have to say here (and to all y'all thinking about it, don't flame me. I haven't decided where I stand here yet - haven't heard a good nail-in-the-coffin argument for or against yet).
Val are you a mind reader now? I’ve been thinking about this exact conundrum the last few days!
(And yeah, as a general disclaimer: no flaming. Not allowed. Any asks of the sort will be deleted on sight and with great satisfaction.)
Honestly, I’m not sure there is a “nail-in-the-coffin argument” for this, just because—as you lay out—there are really good points for keeping works around and really good points for allowing authors to have control over their work, especially when fanworks have no payment/legal obligations attached. In mainstream entertainment, your stories reflect a collaborative effort (publisher, editor, cover artists, etc.) so even if it were possible to delete the physical books out of everyone’s home and library (and we're ignoring the censorship angle for the moment), that’s no longer solely the author’s call, even if they have done the lion’s share of the creative work. Though fanworks can also, obviously, be collaborative, they’re usually not collaborative in the same way (more “This fic idea came about from discord conversations, a couple tumblr posts, and that one headcanon on reddit”) and they certainly don’t have the same monetary, legal, and professional strings attached. I wrote this fic as a hobby in my free time. Don’t I have the right to delete it like I also have the right to tear apart the blankets I knit?
Well yes… but also no? I personally view fanworks as akin to gifts—the academic term for our communities is literally “gift economy”—so if we view it like that, suddenly that discomfort with getting rid of works is more pronounced. If I not only knit a blanket, but then gift it to a friend, it would indeed feel outside of my rights to randomly knock on their door one day and go, “I actually decided I hate that? Please give it back so I can tear it to shreds, thanks :)” That’s so rude! And any real friend would try to talk me out of it, explaining both why they love the blanket and, even if it’s not technically the best in terms of craftsmanship, it holds significant emotional value to them. Save it for that reason alone, at least. Fanworks carry that same meaning—“I don’t care if it’s full of typos, super cliché, and using some outdated, uncomfortable tropes. This story meant so much to me as a teenager and I’ll always love it”—but the difference in medium and relationships means it’s easier to ignore all that. I’m not going up to someone’s house and asking face-to-face to destroy something I gave them (which is awkward as hell. That alone deters us), I’m just pressing a button on my computer. I’m not asking this of a personal friend that is involved in my IRL experiences, I’m (mostly) doing this to online peers I know little, if anything, about. It’s easy to distance ourselves from both the impact of our creative work and the act of getting rid of it while online. On the flip-side though, it’s also easier to demean that work and forget that the author is a real person who put a lot of effort into this creation. If someone didn’t like my knitted blanket I gave them as a gift, they’re unlikely to tell me that. They recognize that it’s impolite and that the act of creating something for them is more important than the construction’s craftsmanship. For fanworks though, with everyone spread around the world and using made up identities, people have fewer filters, happily tearing authors to shreds in the comments, sending anon hate, and the like. The fact that we’re both prefacing this conversation with, “Please don’t flame” emphasizes that. So if I wrote a fic with some iffy tropes, “cringy” dialogue, numerous typos, whatever and enough people decided to drag me for it… I don’t know whether I’d resist the urge to just delete the fic, hopefully ending those interactions. There’s a reason why we’re constantly reminding others to express when they enjoy someone else’s work: the ratio of praise to criticism in fandom (or simply praise to seeming indifference because there was no public reaction at all), is horribly skewed.
So I personally can’t blame anyone for deleting. I’d like to hope that more people realize the importance of keeping fanworks around, that everything you put out there is loved by someone… but I’m well aware that the reality is far more complicated. It’s hard to keep that in mind. It’s hard to keep something around that you personally no longer like. Harder still to keep up a work you might be harassed over, that someone IRL discovered, that you’re disgusted with because you didn’t know better back then… there are lots of reasons why people delete and I ultimately can’t fault them for that. I think the reasons why people delete stem more from problems in fandom culture at large—trolling, legal issues, lack of positive feedback, cancel culture, etc.—than anything the author has or has not personally done, and since such work is meant to be a part of an enjoyable hobby… I can’t rightly tell anyone to shoulder those problems, problems they can’t solve themselves, just for the sake of mine or others’ enjoyment. The reason I’ve been thinking about this lately is because I was discussing Attack on Titan and how much I dislike the source material now, resulting in a very uncomfortable relationship with the fics I wrote a few years back. I’ve personally decided to keep them up and that’s largely because some have received fantastic feedback and I’m aware of how it will hurt those still in the fandom if I take them down. So if a positive experience is the cornerstone of me keeping fics up, I can only assume that negative experiences would likewise been the cornerstone of taking them down. And if getting rid of that fic helps your mental health, or solves a bullying problem, or just makes you happier… that, to me, is always more important than the fic itself.
But, of course, it’s still devastating for everyone who loses the work, which is why my compromise-y answer is to embrace options like AO3’s phenomenal orphaning policy. That’s a fantastic middle ground between saving fanworks and allowing authors to distances themselves from them. I’ve also gotten a lot more proactive about saving the works I want to have around in the future. Regardless of whether we agree with deleting works or not, the reality is we do live in a world where it happens, so best to take action on our own to save what we want to keep around. Though I respect an author’s right to delete, I also respect the reader’s right to maintain access to the work, once published, in whatever way they can. That's probably my real answer here: authors have their rights, but readers have their rights too, so if you decide to publish in the first place, be aware that these rights might, at some point, clash. I download all my favorite fics to Calibre and, when I’m earning more money (lol) I hope to print and bind many for my personal library. I’m also willing to re-share fic if others are looking for them, in order to celebrate the author’s work even if they no longer want anything to do with it. Not fanfiction in this case, but one of my fondest memories was being really into Phantom of the Opera as a kid and wanting, oh so desperately, to read Susan Kay’s Phantom. Problem was, it was out of print at the time, not available at my library, and this was before the age of popping online and finding a used copy. For all intents and purposes, based on my personal situation, this was a case of a book just disappearing from the world. So when an old fandom mom on the message boards I frequented offered to type her copy up chapter by chapter and share it with me, you can only imagine how overjoyed I was. Idk what her own situation was that something like scanning wouldn’t work, but the point is she spent months helping a fandom kid she barely knew simply because a story had resonated with her and she wanted to share it. That shit is powerful!
So if someone wants to delete—if that’s something they need right now—I believe that is, ultimately, their decision… but please try your hardest to remember that the art you put out into the world is having an impact and people will absolutely miss it when it’s gone. Often to the point of doing everything they can to put it back out into the world even if you decide to take it out. Hold onto that feeling. The love you have for your favorite fic, fanart, meta, whatever it is? Someone else has that for your work too. I guarantee it.
So take things down as needed, but for the love of everything keep copies for yourself. You may very well want to give it back to the world someday.

Fic Readers, Assemble!
I’ve been thinking about this situation, and I want to talk about content creators here on Tumblr real quick, because I’ve been making some posts about this subject from my point of view as a writer, but I have some things to say from the point of view of a reader too since I started as one myself and I still read fics to this day.
I can honestly only talk for myself here, but when content creators tell you to please reblog, we never mean to guilt trip people and I sincerely apologize if my posts about it come across as such. When I first started this blog 6 years ago, the like reblog ratio was almost equal without any creators saying anything to encourage people to reblog. For this reason, since people have stopped reblogging as much and we need more interaction now, we’re just trying to bring attention to this problem so people know about it and know how to help if they want to.
I understand that some people don’t feel entirely comfortable reblogging fanfiction for a variety of reasons, and they’re all valid. It can be because it doesn’t go with their blog’s content, maybe their followers don’t care about fanfiction, maybe they’re just a bit awkward about it. It’s okay, I don’t expect every single person to reblog because that didn’t even happen before even if more people did.
The only thing we (again, I can only talk for myself here, but I think it’s how other fic writers generally feel as well) are trying to say is that reblogs and comments gives us exposure, validation and they makes us really happy because it means people actually enjoy our content. For me, likes are a like a ‘seen’ mark that let me know people have come across my fic, but not if they’ve enjoyed it or even read it. That’s why reblogs and comments are so important to us!
I used to never interact with fics other than liking them because back then I was starting to learn how Tumblr works and I didn’t know a reblog was any different. I didn’t want to comment on fics either because I was awkard and scared that I would bother or annoy the writers. Now, as I content creator myself, I get super excited when I get comments and opinions and feedback. So that’s why I insist so much on it, because some people may not know either.
That is all we’re saying: if you genuinely enjoy a fic and wouldn’t mind reblogging  and/or commenting, or you want to show your support to the creator, you can and should do so! We would love that! Likes are appreciated, but reblogs and comments are an extra way to show how you feel about fics. Obviously, not saying you have to reblog and comment, but it really goes a long way to make us feel better about our writing and let us know people like them if you want to do it.

You asked for feedback so I'm giving it to you. Sorry but I don't understand why you write. It's all a bit rubbish, you switch person and include phrases that address the reader directly and switch back to 3rd person - it’s just awful grammar. Your spelling is atrocious and you ramble on. You seem like a horrible person and a horrible writer so please…. stop being so whiny for all our sakes. Just stop.
Wow okay oof that hurt a little bit? Yes, I ask for feedback on my stuff but maybe not just to stop everything aha. This is the first mean message I've got and I was going to ignore this for the longest time, but here I am for once in my life sticking up for myself a bit:
I am PAINFULLY aware I am not a great at this. I’ve always struggled with getting stuff from my head onto paper, I guess sometimes even what's in my head is pretty shit.
Also I agree, me and grammar have a pretty strong dislike for each other. I’m not the best at making things clear, I do ramble.  As for whiny, I assume you mean bcos of an anon days ago where I mentioned my dyslexia? And yes, whilst all the issues above are perpetuated by dyslexia, I’m not going to blame it and say otherwise I’d be perfect cos that's a load of bs. It just makes things a bit trickier.
As for the addressing the reader and switching back to 3rd person thing I would acc like to say most of those are a conscious choice. I like that the narrator sort of has their own weird god-like voice in a story, normally a bit sarky. Yeh people may not like it but I do so have it
I don’t write for notes or anything (it’s pretty clear bcos I dont get many at all ;) ). I do bcos it helps distract me and entertain me and puts me in my own little world. I like that some people enjoy what I do put out on here, even if at 20 I feel like a granny and don’t know how to use Tumblr properly (am learning).
As for the horrible person bit.... I dont think so? I really hope this isn’t because I've offended you in some way - if it is, I am very sorry. I honestly feel like I dont put barely any opinions on here but message me if you have a personal issue with something on the blog / in a fic. Otherwise I don’t interact a lot so I don’t know what I could’ve said?
If the fact it post angers u this much u acc typed out this message with all your fullstops, capital letters and fancy words just block me? Stop looking, scroll past. I'm old enough and ugly enough not to miss you x
