kind of obsessed with the way lauren has offered up these moments of vulnerability to leyla so willingly like she almost can't help herself. 'I'm not really good with living things', 'I protect my people', basically confessing that leyla makes her so happy it lights up her entire existence which she's never experienced or thought she was capable of before. she's really out here putting down all her banged up armor for leyla

Right, like, she's blunt as hell and has no filter, that's just Lauren, but she'll also usually just deflect with a joke. Even when she drops some incredibly sad fact about her background to other people, it's mostly to be like, yeah, this is how it was, moving on now, but with Leyla it's often said as a way of seeking reassurance or to impress some unexpectedly sweet sentiment on her. And unlike with everyone else, she keeps coming back to Leyla because there's something about Leyla's responses that soothe her.

Lol, though, the way you said she can't help herself. It made me think of that scene when she tried to break up with Leyla, how she was just tripping over herself trying to get that speech out.

She's trying so hard to stick to her guns, trying not to look at Leyla:

Well, she manages a few seconds of looking but has to avert her eyes again, probably both because it's hard to get it out but also because Leyla's looking so hurt:

Like, she would rather straight up close her eyes than look at Leyla during this:

But then truly makes eye contact and actually trails off for a bit before kind of falling into the actual memories of their relationship and, as you said, unable to keep herself from blurting out the genuinely sweet actual truth:

And then of course can't look again until she's done.

I don't know if this was a director choice or all Janet Montgomery but she played this so, so well!
