thinking ab zane and kai's friendship fr fr,

how zane admires kai's strengths (and knowledge about people) and expresses it explicitly (straight up asking what certain things mean or why people are doing what they're doing) and he's completely genuine about it. like theres no pity or condescending nature towards it, zane just believes that the others on the team know more about life and people than he does. but kai would take that to heart more than the others.

his parents left without telling him why, he wasn't a very good blacksmith leaving nya's heavy lifting to provide for the both of them, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't become the green ninja. he was even the last of the core four to discover his true potential. kai has never been used to genuine praise. kai probably never truly thought that he was the best at something, or better than someone else. but when zane (a literal prodigal nindroid with a heart of gold) asks him for help and holds him at such a high regard? that hits HARD.

and zane, this assumedly perfect nindroid, never seeming to understand how to get people to like him, or how to understand the meaning behind peoples' words, and kai just understands all of that so effortlessly. and instead of being jealous, he just genuinely thinks 'wow, this guy's so smart!' ???

also the underlying idea of them both feeling responsible for everyone and judging themselves bc they feel like they should have prevented something bad from happening or at least taken the brunt of the attack to protect everyone else,, like ouch. the heavy-hitting guilt and grief, the fear of being the only one left in their family, THEY'RE SO AUGHHHH

Okay but like. Does anyone else think about this? Because I think about this often.

Backup Eclipse realistically, prior to Sun’s murderous rampage, only really did two big major things that were considered evil. Which was A) Setting in motion Moon activating Kill Code which then made KC become sentient and all that. And B) Unlocked the daycare so KC could leave.

And this is a backup that activated in Blood Moon. He did not realistically commit any of the crimes the Original did. Technically he never abused Lunar, he never made any AIs (except Solar Flare). It was just a backup programmed with the Original’s memories and personality and we don’t even know when his memories extend to.

Since he was in Blood Moon, I would expect he was in Eclipse’s very beginning stages of development, therefore no crimes at all had been committed. Sure he has those memories of Eclipse waking up and all his anger, but I severely doubt Eclipse, at that point, had means to set up an automatic like cloud storage effect with his backups.

Now, I’m not saying Backup is innocent. Not at all. He still committed a list of crimes just like the Original Eclipse. But, unless Eclipse set up some Bluetooth Cloud Storage method of backup updates, then realistically, Backup, when he activated, literally had just Eclipse’s rage, abandonment, and maybe some scientific knowledge that Eclipse seemed to have gotten from Moon.

And yet he was held to the crimes Original Eclipse committed just because he was there.

I've been thinkin' too many thoughts about the clones recently...anyways...

If it had never been acknowledged in universe…I think I might’ve been able to ignore how unbelievably fucked up the whole clone army concept is

I might’ve been able to accept it as just a convenient plot point for the republic to have an army to use

That’s what most stories do…they use a faceless army of “disposable” soldiers so that viewers don’t get too upset when so many die in battles

It’s what keeps those stories from feeling too dark

Hell, the stormtroopers from the OT are one of the most famous examples of that

But the thing is…it is acknowledged in universe

Multiple characters on multiple occasions have pointed the fucked-up-ness of it all

Even Obi-Wan in the AOTC novel is kinda horrified at the concept when he sees the clones for the first time

And it’s soooo hard to look past that

Especially with the jedi…I find it so hard to accept that the jedi are able to just ignore and accept it once the army proves to be useful

And like, yeah, when I look at star wars as a whole I understand that a lot of inconsistencies like this are just an inevitability with massive franchises

But it gets super frustrating to hold onto my suspension of disbelief capabilities when these problems are literally mentioned to and acknowledged by the jedi

Especially because I mostly love the jedi
