ANYWAY YES I HAVE read this and I absolutely love it with every fiber of my being.❤️ 100% one of my top fics to read in this fandom that I even go back to for a reread more than once. The characters are perfectly done and the set up for the story is believable with a fantastic payoff, highly highly highly recommend to anyone who hasn’t read it yet.❤️

As for recs, I’ve always been terrible at giving recs since my memory is very bad especially for ones I haven’t read in a while.😭 Off the top of my head I can recommend (note these are practically entirely Leo-centric since he’s my special guy you understand (the others aren’t forgotten at all though!!!) - and most of these are very very well known so you’ve likely already read them…):

- The Neon Void by sugarpastels is absolutely incredible, the dramatic irony of it all as we follow Leo in the state he’s in and see just how broken all the Hamatos are by his “death” is just 👌👌👌 The fact that this places with one of my favorite tropes aka “Leo being in the Prison Dimension longer than canon” is just so good. Genuinely a thoroughly gripping tale that I highly recommend. It’s not complete yet (a lot of this list isn’t) but what is there is so amazing please read (though you most likely have read it already haha)

- little kid with a big death wish and firefight by remrose are another two you’ve likely seen but by god are they worth the read. Firefight isn’t done yet but it and death wish are so amazingly well written and really go into how trauma affects people differently and how ties with family can be tested in traumatic situations. Hard subjects definitely but very maturely done. (Also I misread firefight as firelight for way too long before I realized it-)

- Power Up and Times Five by pickedcarrotsandradish are both unfinished but I can’t care because what we were given is so good that I’m fine with them as they are. Both deal with Leo’s insecurities and bad feelings about himself and, very importantly, the fics go into how these insecurities establish a base for Leo’s very real flaws and how those flaws push him to act the way he does. Very interesting and compelling stuff here!! Power Up especially does really cool things for the boys’ mystic power ups, especially Leo’s, and I loved reading about the ins and outs of what they could do.

- Race Against Life, Death, and the EPF by Cass_Phoenix is just so engaging to read??? Like I love the entire set up for it - it’s feels so fresh and like you’re in Leo’s desperate situation yourself. I was so excited whenever a new chapter came out because the atmosphere was so well done.

- A Mixed Bag by GreatlyBlessed is SHOCKINGLY not Leo-centric for once haha. It’s not completed, but again, like the others above it is so good that I recommend it anyway. This story is actually a crossover between four sets of TMNT (‘87, ‘03, ‘12, and Rise) and the dynamics set up in it are SO fun I love it. Team 2 is my fave because you have literally all my faves on that team how could I not?? I also highly appreciate that everyone gets a chance to shine and that there’s no bashing at all, they’re all just very much in character and it’s refreshing to read ❤️❤️❤️

There’s a LOAD more that I could recommend I’m sure but I don’t remember them off the top of my head at the moment.😭 If I remember I’ll come back and add them in!

(Forgot about AU’s- honestly there’s some that I see and catch up on when I see them but there’s just so many that it’s a bit difficult to keep track of sometimes! I’d have to go around and fully look through many before having a solid answer haha! The ones I do see are always so well done though, I may come back and add them here if I remember 😅)

Curious about your apocalypse au... 👀

I'll open w/ the fact that this is a zombie apocalypse AU

Characteristics of an infected individual shown below (scratched this out really fast for the purpose of this post)

Site A - constant leaking of orifaces, mostly from eyes and mouth.

Site B - destabilization of body; lesions may appear

Site C - spines growing from wounds

Site D - darkening of ink + involuntary change in chromatophores

*also not mentioned in diagram but the white in Callie's tentacles is directly related to the involuntary change in chromatophores as well as the dehydration making it impossible for inkfish to hold artificial dyes in their tentacles/ink.

I'll note (so that this au makes any amount of sense) that I hc that inkfish biology works via like. A central core crystal is the individual and that crystal controls a finite amount of ink that will function as a specific cell when necessary + inkfish are more a membrane containing this ink than like an animal constantly producing more and more ink. Like, splatting is the destabilization of the membrane due to infavorable (acidic) conditions or something like that. And the change between forms is just the stretching of this membrane, swimming is the dissolution of the membrane and the movement of the crystal itself, etc etc. Idk how factual any of that might be but that's what I'm saying.

Anyway back to the fun part, what triggers this disease to spread is a period of uninterrupted rainfall (spanning six weeks of downpour). With inkfish cities being equipped for desert conditions and unprepared for prolonged rainfall and humidity, there is a lot of flooding and a lot of moisture trapped in places that ordinarily would not encounter these conditions. This is worsened by the storm being so prolonged that the air doesn't stay cold. Resultantly, bacteria and mold grow at highly accelerated rates.

The flooding takes a long time to get under control and even begin to drain, so there is a sort of tide pool effect in the desert. Lots of microflora grow, and many oases spring up especially near Splatsville (which become tourist attractions) but there is also an explosion of microfauna.

There is a chain of events specifically responsible for the disease's creation, but that's relatively unimportant rn

Timeline-wise it's kind of like annoying trying to find a cute spot in canon for it + I think canon events r like largely negligible for the purpose of this so like idgaf I'll say right before Splat 3 events happen. I haven't written out a definitive timeline for everyone yet but I'll talk a little bit about each settlement:

Marie is by herself.

Shiver and Eight are both in Splatsville and establish a stable settlement in the city. It's based out of the subway station, and is very small. At most there are around 12 individuals and it is semi-exclusive (aka. be able to bring something to the table), though they will go out of the way to aid individual families/people they run into. Between the Splatsville settlements there are actually like genuine turf wars between settlements (fights over buildings potentially full of resources, shelter, etc) which is the reason for this exclusivity.

Frye and Big Man are both relatively off-grid, acting more to connect smaller countryside settlements. Big Man works more toward diplomacy while Frye works more toward gathering and distributing supplies, leading/overseeing most of the runs into Splatsville. Frye has her eels run notes around for her in the channels of the newly-wetlands. The other agents are also technically connected to this settlement.

Marina and Pearl established a settlement on Pearl's property as it's on a hill and relatively safe from shamblers because they cannot tolerate any amount of water (I hc that healthy inkfish can tolerate being in water if they have enough ink in their bodies; with maintaining an ink tank to fuel their weapons taking any of the ink not immediately necessary to keep an inkfish alive, this is why jumping into water splats them). This settlement is not very exclusive. There are efforts being put into studying the disease, but given Marina is a combat/computer scientist and not a doctor, the going is slow. There is also a radio signal put out every 6 hours by Marina, recited both in Inkling and Octarian.

How to Get (Free) Manga in Japanese from Honto.jp*

(*If you already have an account!)

I hope to get out a post about setting up an account sooner or later, but we'll give this a go for now!

Go to honto.jp There's an option to use the site in English, but we're skipping that for now. We're also only buying digital at the moment, so we're going to skip worrying about shipping. Close the pop-up.

2. Type the name of the book/series you're looking for into the search bar. This time we're looking for とつくにの少女, The Girl From the Other Side. (Note that I tried searching for 外国の少女 and didn't get the correct results, so do be careful how you type in what you're looking for.) Unselect the green option (紙) from next to the search bar, since right now we're only looking for digital (電子). Then click 検索.

3. You can see various volumes of the series appearing below. Right now it's showing up with the most recent at the top, so we'll scroll down until we see とつくにの少女（１）. Alternatively, they often sell sets up to the most recent volume released, so if you want to go all in, you can look for the option [全1−11 セット] とつくにの少女. In this case we need to scroll to the bottom and go on to the next page. Just a note that they do sell "complete" series even if the series is still publishing new volumes, and you'll have to buy future volumes as a new purchase. Also, it will not allow you to purchase both the full set and a single volume of the same series at the same time. Buying as a set vs. buying individually does not affect how the volumes appear in your library, but it can affect how coupons apply sometimes, if there's a deal on sets.

4. Here we are! とつくにの少女（１）! If you don't want to buy it right now, you can click 欲しい本に追加, but we're purchasing, so we're going to click the big orange (電子書籍を)カートに入れる.

5. Now you can see it's changed to カートを見る, and there's one item in our cart up top! Before we check out, though, let's take advantage of some of the perks of using honto.jp.

6. By hovering over Myメニュー at the top right, we can get to あしあと抽選ポイント and クーポン一覧.

7. Let's visit あしあと抽選ポイント first. You earn points by buying things on the website (1 point for 100 yen, I think?), but you can also enter the point lottery for a chance to win free points every day! Usually you only get one point, but it's still fun and a penny saved is a penny earned, right? Click the big blue button that says あしあと抽選にチャレンジ！

8. Next go to クーポン一覧. Go through and collect 取得する on the right side of all of them, we don't care. They're free. Most of them are for smaller publishers and only apply to specific books we're not interested in, but the ones at the top are going to help us get 20%~25% off if we're lucky! 25% is about the best deal you get on honto.jp, every once in a while you may get 30% or perhaps 40%. There are better sales, but they won't apply to the popular items.

9. All our coupons now having turned from blue to gray and saying 取得済み, we go to our bonus round... the free manga area! Click the logo in the top left to go back to the main page, and then look for 無料の電子書籍 right underneath the search bar.

There are hundreds and hundreds of free options, usually the first or first few volumes of a series. (They're to get you to buy the rest of the series, but they can save you some money!!) A lot are kind of whatever, but there's usually a few really good ones there, case in point Blue Giant (first 4 volumes) and Shadow House (first 3 volumes) are free right now! Sometimes they're only free for a limited amount of time after which they'll still appear in your digital library but you can no longer open them, but we don't care about that right now, go get your free stuff!

You can add the first volumes to your cart very quickly by clicking the orange button underneath the covers, but if you want all the free volumes, click on the cover to open in a new tab, which will take you to the page for the first volume. Click on シリーズ一覧 under the title and author, and that'll take you to a list of the volumes like we saw before, if you scroll down.

Now that we're here, go crazy hitting the orange button, but make sure you're doing it on the volumes that say 0円. They like to mix the paid volumes in with the free ones. If you look at the title you can see the free ones are only going to be available to read until March 16th, but whatever! Free stuff, even if it's temporary!

Something weird is going on with Shadow House, I don't know why there are two different free ones, I think that's an error on the part of the site. We'll just pick one for each volume. This one says 期間限定無料配信, so I think that means you get to keep it as long as you get it for free during the free availability period!

10. Now that we've rounded up what we want, click on your cart (電子書籍のカートを見る) in the top right. This'll pop up when you hover over the cart icon.

Look over your list, make sure your free books are free, and your total off to the right is what you're expecting, then enter your password on the right to continue, then hit the orange button that says 購入の手続きへ進む.

11. Now it pretty much looks the same, except we're logged in. It saves your payment information, so you won't have to enter anything (danger!! if you like buying books, there's no step of having to get out your credit card to make you think about your life choices!)

BUT we do want to save money, so we'll use our coupons and points! Click on the white box with the blue outline that says クーポン/ポイントの利用

12. Apply your coupon!! (One per purchase). But see, this is why we collect all the coupons, because apparently とつくにの少女 happens to be from one of the publishers that has a good sale on now! I think it automatically applies the best one, but it's good to check, especially if you have more than one item in your cart that costs actual money. You can see how it reduced from 605円 on the previous screen to 363円 here. By clicking 全て利用する on the right, I can also apply all my points to bring it down that much further! (Or click the lower options to use some or none of your points.) If points expire, I buy things off this site too frequently to have noticed... Then click 変更する in blue at the bottom to save your changes.

13. STOP, think about if you're ready to pay!! Then to finish, click the orange ご注文を確定 on the right! You can see I'll earn 2 pts to save on future purchases from this order. (It looks like it's less than 1 per 100円...)

14. DONE! You can open up the app on your preferred device, download your new purchase(s), and start reading! You can also read in-browser by clicking ブラウサで読む.

You'll see your purchases on My 本棚

Hover over the cover to bring you to this screen, then select シリーズの本棚を見る to go to the mini-bookshelf for all the volumes in that series (I only have one of とつくにの少女, but that's what shows up anyway).

It shows me the volumes that are missing in gray, but if I hover over the one I have, I again see ブラウザーで読む. Click on that to finally read!

Ta-da! I think it also pops up with instructions about using the arrow keys to move the pages, or your can click on the sides of the pages to get them to advance in that direction.

As someone who’s not into selfship, I usually engage with X Reader content by viewing Reader as their own character. And seeing the dark potential for Boss…..

What about a Reader who is Boss’s “friend”?? A mature, confident individual who is honest with their desires but also smart enough to recognize Boss’s red flags. The type who will say to his face that they are attracted to his appearance + money but know better than to date him.

I think it would be funny/ dangerous if they like to toy with Boss, casually flirting with him but always ending it with, “But of course, I know we aren’t suited for a serious relationship with each other. That’s why I’d only pursue a friendship-with-benefit/ marriage of convenience with you—not that you’d ever say yes~”

Idk maybe Boss would view them as an interesting challenge for that reason?? It does feel satisfying when he begins to flirt back and seriously court Reader, watching their reaction go from “Nice joke lol” to “Wait, are you serious??”

Also, the mental image of Reader pulling Boss’s necktie so their faces are dangerously close, controlling their distance and daring him to either move closer or farther—

Dare I say it, reader might actually be able to twist his mind at the cost of... Well. Themselves, essentially.

Don't be fooled, though. Boss is still a control freak, but he does consider that a challenge. I think it'd be more like outwitting one another, and it becomes a fun enemies to lovers to enemies to 'its complicated'. What's even worse is that it could develop his obsessive love for them instead, which... Translates to extra bad news.

AND THE FACT THEY'RE DARING HIM TO MOVE CLOSER OR FARTHER.... OTL. OH THE DEMONS. THEY'RE YELLING. THEY ARE GOING TO STRANGLE ME AND YOU FOR THIS THOUGHT.

Okay but like... the power imbalance turning into a dynamic though. Boss's desire for control and the reader's desire to twist what's theirs, and like??? Aaaaaaa the potential yan x budding yan!! AND THE AMOUNT OF UNHEALTHY DYNAMICS THAT CAN BE TWISTED INTO "LOVE" FOR THEM!!

I have a really important question, how do you feel about your art being used in edits ? And I don’t mean taking your whole amv/pmv and changing the audio , I mean taking a few clips here and there, I want to make sure I’m not crossing any boundaries or anyone else

honestly ive been goin a lil back and forth for a while on how i feel about it; at the moment ive kinda been like i dont really like it but i also dont rlly care enough for it to actually make me uncomfortable/upset ? and then i think maybe i should just let ppl use it for edits if they dont bother me Too much idk... like they are insane. they are the most normal couple ever. they gift each other flower bouquets (and shidou does it with an unhealthy amount of thought and meaning behind them and mikoto tries his best to keep up) they are normal and affectionate. they are a little unhinged. they fix each other. they quit smoking together (either shidou does it to prompt mikoto to quit his poor self-destructive habits or mikoto does it to make shidou quit his poor self-destructive habits). or the opposite. maybe it just gets worse. medical malpractice. or not. they cook together and shidou's great at it but mikoto either makes only ramen or he burns the kitchen. they're baking together but mikoto manages to crack an egg and only have half of the contents land in the bowl and shidou's apalled but in an affectionate way (that was so oddly specific I apologize). they do taxes and lead normal lives and they're both Overworked to hell (and mikoto's underpaid but shidou's funny doctor salary makes up for it) but they have each other when they get home. they Suck. but they're normal about it. probably. they are everything to each other. they are authentic to each other. whatever that happens to mean. for better or for worse. i am pushing their heads together. you know that one gif of a doctor reaching for a syringe while the patient tries to make heart hands with them? that's them right there. that's the dynamic. they're so silly. none of this makes any sense this is probably so incoherent orz

aaaaa I feel really guilty about owing people fics for months now and it's made me avoid doing other creative things, but I've come to accept that not doing other things is not going to make me any more likely to actually work on those fics
