what were your favourite bands and singers growing up?
I didn't have any (is the short answer).
Here's the long one:
To put things into perspective I once borrowed a radio from my dad's garage that wasn't being used and turned it to the country radio station. When I was caught a day or so later I got in big trouble for listening to corrupting evil tunes. 🤣 I don't remember how old I was. Maybe 11.
For most of my childhood we did not listen to music except for the local Christian radio station, and honestly...most of their renditions of hymns were boring compared to what we sang in church.
Imagine my delight and wonder when my band instructor handed me the sheet music to Long Train Runnin'. (IMO it's a banger for a band to play.)
My siblings and I were obsessed with video game music for a long time, especially Final Fantasy VII/VIII/IX. Eyes on Me and Memories of Life sent us into orbit. We used the early Internet to try to find sheet music.
Until my late teens the only music I'd really been exposed to was some country music (on the bus radio), Ray Boltz (a Christian singer who later came out as gay and was shunned by the community—I still stan), and the Carpenters, because my mom would sometimes sing Top of the World. One time I saw a Carpenters "love songs" cassette for sale at the WalMart for a couple of dollars and by some miracle my mom bought it (we were pretty poor and I never asked for anything so this is a special memory). I eventually bought the cd version.
The theme from Road to Avonlea (The Fresh Hills of Mhic Cainte) was a big deal to me for years too.
We received a free Kurt Bestor cd (Seasons) in the mail once and I wore it out playing it. At some point I also wound up with a Christian music cd that had popular songs on it including Mercy Came Running (which I listened to relentlessly).
I borrowed the Pokemon the First Movie & Pokemon 2000 soundtracks from the library and recorded them onto cassettes; these were my workout tunes for literal years of my life. I also saw Rigoletto at some point and mostly rewatched it to listen to The Curse. Mulan and other films were rewatched a lot for the music too.
In my late teens I enjoyed Evanescence and Matchbox20 and a lot of other popular songs of the time on a radio I bought myself. In my early adulthood I discovered Josh Groban. I fell heavily into 80s pop & country music also. I stopped listening to new country music around 2012. My car's radio stations are tuned to a legacy country station and a legacy rock/pop station and I still have a lot of mixed cds I keep in the middle console. I'm very picky about music and rarely listen to new songs but I did really like Percolate (thanks YouTube recommendations).
Needless to say, I did not really "grow up with" favorites, so I had to find them much later in life. ;)
And you didn't ask this, but music more than anything has influenced me as a writer: Josh Groban, Carpenters, and specific songs like You Don't Bring Me Flowers, Piano Man, If We Hold On Together, Crane's Crying, You Move Me, You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This, and even Shut Up and Kiss Me.
Like, it's funny to me that my writing is far more influenced by the poetry in music than anything else, considering how late in life I was allowed to freely enjoy it.

Have you watched any other lgbt+ shows other than BLs. Recently or even in the past. You have any film recommendations in this genre?

Yep I have and still do. I am either watching thrillers or queer stuff, I rarely watch mainstream het stuff.
I would say I have quite a long list of queer media consumed. I mostly see them divided in 2 types.
1. About the queer experience, where queerness is the plot.
2. Where characters happen to be queer, the queerness is not the plot.
Historically people have fought long and hard to get the type 2 representation in media. Not my pick, but I appreciate it nonetheless.
You have mentioned nothing about your preferences so I'll just rec some with a little description to go with, so you have an idea what's it about.
Brokeback Mountain : Classic, cowboys falling in love, sad ending. Watch it for Heath Ledger.
Weekend : Young British guys hookup and fall for each other over a weekend. Not happy but hopeful ending. Excellent movie by a LGBTQ director.
Shelter : A young guy from a small town who dreams of becoming an artist, falls for his best friend's gay brother. Excellent story, off the charts chemistry, found family. Happy ending. It's my go to comfort movie.
Free Fall: A German movie about 2 cops falling in love. One is married and straight(or so he thinks) , the other is out. This movie hurts a lot, it's a mature plot. Cheating, adultery, drugs etcis involved. Explicit scenes. Sad ending.
Out in the dark: A Israeli lawyer and Palestinian student fall in love. A story with political background. Hard hitting. Sad ending.
The way he looks: A blind boy is best friends with a girl. Add to the mix a new cute student, which makes things complicated. Excellent coming of age and realization of sexuality with a mix of navigating life with a disability. Very cute actors, all three of them. Happy ending.
Beautiful thing: Two troubled boys who are bullied find love and comfort in each other. It's witty and sweet. Happy ending.
Blue is the warmest colour: A high school girl navigates love and relationship. The leads fall for each other, then move in together and fall apart. It's long ass movie, very interesting takes on society, queers, politics etc. Explicit scenes. Visually pleasing. A rare piece of cinema where the story follows a teenager upto adulthood.
The handmaiden: A Korean film about a Japanese lady heir falling in love with her Korean maid, who originally is a con sent to deceive her. Amazing movie. It has everything the mystery, the thrill, best direction, crisp storytelling and explicit sex scenes. Happy ending. Watch it.
Portrait of lady on fire: A french historical movie in which a countess falls in love with the women who paints her portrait. Good direction, chemistry. Sad ending as expected for queer historical drama.
Yes or No: A Thai movie of a girl from a rich orthodox family and her tomboy roommate falling in love. If you like Thai BLs you would probably like this. Very similar storyline and tropes. It's very very soft. And epic level of pining, even after they get together they are still pining. Honest conversations about the fear and coming to love a girl. Happy ending.
Badhai Do: A Hindi movie wherein a gay guy and a lesbian girl get married under society pressure as a deal. It's a fun take on the whole thing along with some serious society whiplash. If you like Bollywood you might like it.
I'll stop now, let me know if you like any of the above and want something on same lines or different. I have plent more suggestions. I should probably do an excel sheet or something. But these were the ones which I liked and rewatch quite often.

Productivity update
academic goals:
finished 3 tutorial sheets for the most recent lectures (of which I was weakest in)
did some of the vector calculus questions in the three practice exams given
redid the questions I got wrong on the practice quiz in preparation for the quiz tomorrow
redid the practice quiz entirely
rewatched and revised my understanding in the areas I was weakest in, which were mostly flux calculations
in terms of more personal goals:
wahoo!!! I finished the blue eyed samurai. It was good :)). I will be watching the second season whenever it comes out
finished season 4 of outlander!!! I gave it a decent pause (of around 6 months oops) because I ended up finding season 3 fairly boring and lost interest. But I got back into it and am now on episode 4 of season 5!!! I feel like overall the series has definitely gotten weaker the further it's gone, but we will see how the rest of season 5 and 6 goes.
currently on episode 8 of heavens official blessing!!! It's cute. Not the best gay I've seen, and not a lot has happened, but the two mains are pretty af and I'm into whatever is going on

I suppose what my baby teen self wanted to convey was that I was an overly dramatic flamboyant little gay, which still stands true as of today ;)

6. Favorite meal to cook yourself?
a: i am a horrible cretin who rarely cooks, and my repertoire of known recipes is alarmingly small. i do really enjoy making scrambled eggs though. that counts, right?
14. Favorite podcasts?
a: ooh, i like this one. mostly because i have listened to so few podcasts LOL. i’m ALMOST done with Alice Isn’t Dead. I SWEAR I’LL FINISH IT SOON. But it’s Great and i highly recommend it. especially if you’re into slightly spooky things and gay ladies and stream of consciousness that makes you get into an existential mood.
i also… love The Adventure Zone. just so much. i regularly remember random moments from each season and like??? tear up???????? how dare they… those bastards…
27. Any plans for tomorrow?
a: first i was like: what’s tomorrow? then, what’s Today? phew. tomorrow is Tuesday, right? that means i’ll hopefully be FaceTiming @amnestypineguard in the evening, because that’s what we do every Tuesday. consistency is very key in this weird ass time. otherwise, i’m not sure. i really hope i’ll be able to play some video games but i…. highly doubt it.
48. New shows you’ve discovered?
a: so this isn’t a New discovery, since i started the show back in like… January? but Lucifer has been very fun. i’m very… capricious in my show watching. like, i am not a good binge watcher, but i try.
otherwise i am still slowly making my way through Critical Role campaign 1, and because i’m starving for content, i’m rewatching each cast member’s Between the Sheets interviews with BWF. idk why i like watching interviews so much? i just like knowing what goes on behind the scenes and their processes and little stories. maybe that’s why.

quarantine tag game

1. Are you staying home from work/school?
yup. no school, no temp assignments...just a big ole unemployment void. so this is what it’ll be like when i’m older.
2. If you’re staying at home, who’s there with you?
the other three members of my family and the voices of everyone my mom calls on the daily.
3. Do you have pets to keep you company?
no, and i really wish i had at least a hamster. a dog would be preferable. i’d even take a cat.
4. What do you miss the most?
i miss a lot of things. i think mainly i just miss having a sense of purpose? i got caught in the unemployment crossfire (without actually being able to file for unemployment welp) and everyone else in my house is learning online/working while i’m just kinda...floating around doing nothing.
5. When was the last time you left your home?
march 14. i went to the gym and picked up some picture frames from ikea, and the next day began the stay-at-home advisory. the last time i physically left the house was about two weeks ago, when i went photographing, touched the ground and subsequently panicked about getting sick for the next week. (this was fueled by my mom’s reaction and i know she’s right but also still it’s a Lot)
6. What was the last thing you brought?
overcooked and overcooked 2 for steam baby! they were both on sale and i’ve just been playing with my friends. about to buy jackbox 5 tho cause it’s also on sale and might debut it at my possible zoom grad party.
7. Is quarantine driving you insane or are you finally relaxed?
i have never been less relaxed because literally every anxiety is in play every single moment of the day
8. Are you a homebody?
i used to be! then i went to college and all that stuff. home is a great base to touch in on every now and again, but being home requires me to take up a specific role that i’m not comfortable being in for the rest of my life. i also fell in love with travelling, so...no, I guess? i’m a homebody in the sense that I enjoy quiet nights in. but other than that let me out of here please i’m begging you
9. What are movies you have watched recently?
PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE. THE GAY. oh! and saving face, because bitches can’t WAIT for the half of it! it’s me. i’m bitches.
my ultimate goal is to work through the list of movies i want to watch (snowpiercer, parasite, knives out, to all the boys 2, etc.) and then work my way back through the movies i haven’t seen in a long time (princess diaries 1 + 2, all three Lilo and Stitches, camp rock)
10. An event that you were looking forward to that got cancelled?
just...everything. commencement ball. commencements parts I-IV. the acapella concerts I was supposed to see my friends at because it was their last hurrah. the conference where I was supposed to present the thesis project that stripped me of my mental health during my last semester of college! my friend and I were supposed to go see AJR in may. we were all supposed to throw grad parties. class of 2020 really got gypped y’all. the start of a marketing position i’d just secured with a temp company.
11. What’s the worst thing you’ve had to cancel?
probably commencement. it was supposed to be a last hurrah with my friends because I wouldn’t have hung out with them since i left uni the semester before. our crowning achievement, if you will. the defining moment that said yes, despite every piece of drama and every bit of trauma along the way, we made it and we’re ready to fuck up the world. the crowning glory. and now all of that’s been stripped away and instead, society’s just going to throw us into the dry pool called the job market. commencement was supposed to be the breath of air before we went back to trying to swim against a current. now it’s just a continuous struggle that won’t be made better because no one can retire. plus the market, which is normally fucked for creatives, is going to be extra fucked because no company has ‘money’.
12. What’s the best thing you’ve had to cancel?
uhhhh...i mean i guess when you put it that way, it would be the research conference. i was not ready to turn my brain back into academic mode.
13. Do you have any new hobbies?
not new hobbies per se...just re-picked up a lot of old ones? knitting, writing, photography. folding stars. all sort of muscle memory things you can do while binge-watching TV. i’m in the process of making jars of little stars for my senior friends because they’re ‘senior stars’! cue ‘we’re all in this together’.
but in all seriousness (and cheesiness, sorry guys) i wanted to make them something that was decorative and cute and reminded them that they were important. like stars. and just as like. a present. ‘cause they deserve that.
14. What are you out of?
serotonin, dopamine and a will to live, almost. i’m so tired y’all.
15. What music are you listening too?
mostly my current music playlist, but i’m trolling my friends’ playlists too. i am repeating “complicated” from sex&drugs&rock&roll, though, mainly because i’m resonating with it so deeply to the point where i want to cry. and am unable to. as one does.
16. What shows are you watching?
a lot of the shows i watch ended production early so that’s really no more for grey’s...ok basically just grey’s ended early but i’m still watching 9-1-1 because they’re still producing regularly. b99 is too but I think they’re just about to wrap up. i’ve been meaning to start the recent season of odaat but i’ve just been watching the old episodes on netflix because idt we can get poptv.
i started rewatching victorious, i’m at a pause with dynasty and sex&drugs&rock&roll mainly because of formatting. does anyone have any tv recs?
17. What are you reading?
i’ve been meaning to start into the interior by michelle cliff, and after that i’d really like to re-read ‘i hate everyone but you’ by gaby dunn and allison raskin. i’d like more gay books tho.
18. What are you doing for self care?
watching a lot of the try guys. in the middle of trying to reset my sleeping clock tho.
19. Are you exercising?
i....am. mainly because not exercising makes me feel worse about myself and i can already sense the hell i’m going to catch if I don’t look good for my cousin’s wedding. (we’re gonna assume it happens.)
20. How’s your toilet paper supply?
when we first started this whole thing, i looked in the basement and uh...let’s just say we’re gonna be pretty okay for a while. still hasn’t stopped me from monitoring my sheet usage though.
21. Have you made any changes to your hair during quarantine?
i cut my hair short just before quarantine, actually! so i’ve sort of been revelling in that. if this goes on for a while longer i might trim it myself, just because i would rather stay short than go long again for the sake of my own sanity.

TDB Rewatch Homecoming Episode 6x02
“Sometimes, if you want to make change, you got to make a little noise."
This is probably my favorite s6 epsiode - it’s the one with the Darren cameos and the numerous s1/2 nods: like slushees, Kurt dancing on cafeteria furniture, the return of the Unholy Trinity, Rachel talking non-stop without needing to breathe, barging into showers in search of talent, Warbler craziness, the glass dome above the staircase... I hadn’t known how much i’d missed this.
After all the heavy stuff from last week this is mostly funny and happy. I love how the theme of the drawings-transforming-into-reality runs throughout the entire episode. If you don’t know the 80's music video of Take On Me that inspired this, then go watch it and also listen to the released Glee version because in the aired version they cut Kurt’s high note in the first refrain. (and then go and compare it to the low note he has in Home - Chris really has an impressive range!!) It’s good to have all the alumni back and I like them trying to recruit members and searching for the mysterious voice.
Kurt and Rachel clearly have communication issues (worse than the ones he had with Blaine?), if they are organizing sheet music for 2 hours before finding out they both had a completely different approach. But I love all the banter concerning their different perception of Kurt’s position in their (not yet existent) Glee Club.
the newbies are a delight: I love them all, especially Roderick and Jane who’s voices are awesome and the ‘Incest Twins’ are hilarious (I once read in a tumblr post that they are like Kurt and Blaine’s future children, lol)
the show doesn’t want to dwell on Blaine’s depression right after the break-up, so I will leave this for fanfiction to cover, but I will say, I love seeing old mentor!Blaine being back. His enthusiasm in helping people Jane and fighting the system is adorable. But I don’t get why he introduces her to Rachel of all people to help with her audition - shouldn’t that be his job as the Warbler coach?? There are still some self-confidence issues apparent under that whole ‘I’m perfectly fine’-attitude. And he is rightfully angry when Jane transfers to McKinley without telling him about it. That was completely unfair and disrespectful. Of course this is a set-up for there being more tension between the choirs but it doesn’t work for me. Jane didn’t have a problem with her parents filing a lawsuit for her to join Dalton Academy but she has a problem with Blaine doing the same (on a much lower judicial level) for her to join the Warblers?! And her parents are just okay with her transfering again? - to the very school they tried to protect her from, just because of an extra-curricular like Glee Club?? Well, anyway, it’s nice to finally see Blaine showing some of that rightful anger against Kurt, as well.
Why does Kurt try to recruit Spencer in the first place? Has there been any evidence or mention that Spencer can sing/perform? I don’t think so - so if Kurt only wants him in Glee Club for representation matters, because a gay football player would be the perfect connection between sports and arts I totally get Spencer’s confusion. But he is wrong if he actually thinks he doesn’t stand on Kurt’s and other’s shoulders, because he clearly does. On the other hand, having choir members who can’t dance or sing is kind of a tradition at McKinley - there has been Sugar Motta, after all, who was literally tone-deaf. So this is where Spencer fits in - sorry, Spencer but you never grew on me.
Kurt / Blaine Things
I am actually shocked about the amount of hairgel Blaine considers to put in his hair....
Blaine is wearing his leather jacket from the Michael episode in the Blam-scene.

I’d have liked to see the conversation Kurt mentions in the auditorium where he ‘said some not so nice things about Rachel’s life’. Was there a cut scene?
Kurt wears a very interesting see-through cardigan in the choir room scene where he talks to Brittany. I couldn’t find it on Fashion of Glee :-/
Other things
“We can’t have a girl Warbler. Imagine the sexual tension.” ...well, there has never been sexual tension between two guy Warblers, has there?
Oh, how I missed crazy Warbler council meetings. Skunk? Squirrel?

Do you have other blogs?: I have a personal blog ( @turtlemushroombicep ) and a porn blog ( @peachbottompie ) and I used to have an RP blog but no one wanted to do it haha.
Do you get asks?: Occasionally. I have a few unanswered in my box but I don’t get that many, really. Like once or twice a week now. I was very popular a few months ago until everyone realized how lame I actually am.
Why did you choose your URL?: I had a poll and this won over a few other wet Sam based URLs. I really want to change it to ‘sammysbutthole’ one day.

Average hours of sleep?: About seven or eight hours, depending.

Instruments: Mediocre piano skills, very long ago clarinet skills, and I can play the guitar and mandolin.
What am I wearing?: Grey tweed aerie harem lounge pants, a t-shirt from woot that says ‘living on the edge, scissor run 5k’ and my favourite gross oversized green cardigan.
How many blankets I sleep with?: Winter is upon us, so there is a sheet, a fleece Rick Grimes blanket that my husband got when someone donated it to his work (this is how we get most blankets and honestly that thing is like $20 at Target, I saw it) and then a larger faux fur blanket on top of that. And there is also usually a cat on me.
Dream Job: I would like to get paid for writing professional and also own a yarn store and run knitting and crochet classes.
Dream Trip: Rhode Island, going to Lovecraftian places.
Ethnicity: White Canadian with obligatory indigenous mixed in somewhere, as per an old diary my grandmother found. Further back, we were polish jews on one side, and the generic white UK mix otherwise.

Who is your celebrity crush?: I just rewatched the beginning of Fear the Walking Dead, so I’m real back into Alycia Debnam-Carey. Punisher got me going on Ben Barnes, the little shitfuck. Otherwise, the usual suspects.
Do you drive? If so, have you ever crashed?: I do not know how to drive, I am far too gay, but I am required to learn to get around at all in suburban New Jersey, where public transport is terribly limited. So we’re working on it.
The last book you read?: I re-read Annemor Sundbo’s book about traditional Norwegian mittens. That’s right.
Worst injury you’ve had?: I am sooo lucky that as clumsy as I am, I haven’t had any terrible injuries. I’ve broken both little toes so many times, and a few fingers. Otherwise that’s it, somehow.
Do you have any obsessions right now?: As always with this time of year, I’m frantically knitting and crocheting so I don’t have to be alone with my thoughts. I’ve made a lot of stuff. Really into Korean cooking too, which is time consuming but delicious and healthy.
Do you tend to hold grudges against people who have done you wrong?: I wish I could say that I don’t but I’m a pretty black and white person when it comes to people doing me wrong or treating me poorly or anything like that. I wouldn’t say I hold grudges but I do cut people out of my life when I have to.
