YAYYYY okay I'm gonna like. dump a whole bunch of stuff that bestie @blackmarketjoy and I have been thinking about and working on and stick it under the cut BUT a little amuse-bouche: I'm currently workshopping a goodomens fan-minisode fic Thing that's set in the 1910s where Crowley is disguised as a live-in maid tempting Some Rich Guy into greed and financial ruin with her demonic wiles and sexy ankles, and Aziraphale is disguised as a war nurse who's been quartered in the same Fancy Rich House with some wounded soldiers under her care because you could just do that sort of thing back then. It's a liiiittle Nanny Ashtoreth/Brother Francis-esque but not quite as pre-planned. Okay that's enough to get you goin here's all the extra nonsense (as Aziraphale and Crowley are both presenting as women in this Thing, she/her pronouns will be used for both throughout):

This whole concept actually originated from a DREAM I had that included Crowley in a vintage nurse's uniform because if I am known for anything it is my ability to be happy, big, and sexually normal. My friend Mifs then was like Oh what if Aziraphale was in a vintage maid uniform lol and that festered in my mind for a while. We ended up switching the roles around because it makes more sense with the timeline (since Az would have her bookshop by this time period and typically isn't wont to leave it for too long unless there's an extenuating circumstance) and is generally more in-character for Aziraphale to have the Helping People role.

As I've said before on this blog, I think it's Easy and therefore boring to reduce Crowley's skill of "temptation" to something purely sexual, especially when she's in girlmode. This isn't to say she's completely nonsexual in this fic thing, it's more fun for me if she isn't, but she's not specifically aiming to, idk, "inspire lust" or whatever. She's merely, idk, convincing this Rich Guy to make extremely bad investments while sitting in his lap or something, AND to reveal how much of an asshole this guy is. I don't know what the hell people invested in in the 1910s but I'm sure she'd pick something absolutely disastrous. Maybe she knew about the upcoming Great Depression

Meanwhile I think Aziraphale is here by complete accident, mostly bc I think it's funny when the universe pushes them together. Also because I'm imagining some sort of "Ugh, you again. What are YOU doing here?" "ME? I'm saving LIVES. I should be asking what YOU'RE doing here, foul serpent" interaction and I love it when women argue because they want to fuck each other

This whole thing is set during the winter because that gives Lots and lots and lots of opportunities for huddling for warmth, hand-holding, dramatic fireplace lighting, etc.

^ Related to huddling for warmth, I think Aziraphale (a little bit too excitedly) offers to room up with Crowley in idk, The Help's Quarters or whatever and they end up sharing a bedroom. Hayden idk if I've told u this but in the book Crowley sleeps despite not needing to (I don't Think this is ever mentioned in the show but like if a book thing isn't directly contrasted by a show thing it's canon to me) while Aziraphale doesn't, so I'm kinda just imagining Az spends all night reading while Crowley sleeps. But since it's cold as fuck Az eventually starts to like. read in bed under the covers while Crowley spoons her "for warmth." Also I know they don't Need light to see but I keep imagining Az summoning some kind of Holy Light to read by (maybe it's just one of the little human preferences they develop over time) and Crowley bitching about how bright it is and kinda pushing her face into Az's neck or shoulder "to cover her eyes." Yuri

Going back to some of the Rich Asshole Guy stuff. I think he's like, creepy and pervy and does a lot of Leering at both Az and Crowley, but is especially bad with Crowley since like "she's leading him on" or whatever. Both the Job minisode and the Edinburgh minisode can pretty easily be described as including some kind of "lesson" (almost always for Aziraphale) and I think it'd be fun to do a version of that where unfairly GOOD things (material wealth) are given to a BAD person, rather than the standard opposite. Ultimately the story would end with Rich Asshole Guy making some kind of unwanted advance and Crowley, having successfully driven him to ruin via his own greed, takes off her glasses and shows her eyes (I imagine he's asked her repeatedly to show her eyes, yknow in a You'd Be Prettier If You Smiled sort of way) and hisses and etc., Putting The Fear Of God in him before she and Az leave. Az could, idk, smite the guy or something too he'd deserve it

I think Az is like veeeery repressed sexually, somehow even moreso in girlmode than she is in guymode, and since Crowley is being Vaguely Sexy it's just the perfect yuri storm. Hayden u already saw the snippet I wrote about this but I'll recount it here anyway: Az pulls some like weird pseudo-victim blamey stuff on Crowley like "I don't know why you're surprised that he tries to look up your skirt, I don't know what you expected, pulling it up that high" bc she's working thru some stuff okay and that's the only way she can process the fact that she notices how much leg Crowley is showing at any given time. She knows better obviously and will admit as much it's just that divinity is a performance, yknow, and she's still trying to pretend to be dedicated to that.

IIIII keep imagining something with like Az smuggling human food and Crowley smuggling human alcohol and they have a little yuri dinner in like the courtyard or something, and Crowley gets to tease Aziraphale for stealing. And then Mifs added onto it this is All their ideas but it's really good so I'm paraphrasing it here: 1) Aziraphale gets sick of eating shitty watery period-accurate Soup For The Poor and decides to finally do something about it 2) since Crowley is a maid she'd have more access to the kitchen and leftover food and etc and since Aziraphale is a nurse she'd have more access to idk wherever rich people put alcohol because it's the 1910s and medicine is fake. So it's like them stealing bits and pieces away for each other yknow... themes

I think Some Rich Guy (who needs a name I'm very open to name ideas for all these side characters) should have kids so Crowley can kinda subtly turn them against him because idk, "honor your father and mother" is a Commandment and all that and therefore not doing so is A Sin even if your dad's a dick (Aziraphale can have a little Moment about this, I love putting her through Moments). I'm imagining this less in like a proactive Nanny Ashtoreth way (Hayden I know u haven't seen the show but Crowley's purpose as Nanny Ashtoreth is to instill as much evil into the child they believe is the antichrist as possible) and more in a "purposefully turning a blind eye and letting kids 'misbehave'" sort of way.

"Why doesn't Aziraphale just miracle her soldiers' wounds better" because she wants to spend as much time with Crowley as possible and she's enjoying the maid/nurse roleplay. Obviously. (When Crowley asks her about this she lies through her teeth, of course)

Another idea from Mifs I'm just gonna stick in here: Az has some kind of crisis because one of her soldiers is getting worse and Crowley has to calm her down about it. Shoulder grabbing, face grabbing, eye contact, hand-holding, etc. Very very psychosexual for them both. Also Crowley ends up doing something to help the dying guy, filling her Niceys quota for the minisode (but she's NOT nice! She's mean and she means it!)

OH working title for this courtesy of Mifs is "Of Lace and Lacerations" which I LOVE. Currently the Google doc I write all my ideas on is called "you like kissing girls don't you"

Idk how explicitly romantic (and possibly even sexual) this Thing is going to be, like the romantic tension is obviously obviously there but idk if there'll be kissing. I need to think on how "canon-compliant" I want this all to be (as romantic tension is very canon-compliant but explicit kissing and etc. is not so much). I've been thinking about a bonus feature at the end that's just nasty woman sex so stay tuned for that

And uhhh I think that's it! This is Way longer than I expected lmao but hopefully u enjoy it Hayden ily <3<3 and hopefully some other people enjoy this too! This has been a really good exercise for me in story development, I think having the minisode structure to work within helps my ideas fall into place so much more easily (since I usually have a ton of problems with structure). P3 x P2 hcs bc I read a fic last night of themmm :3

•While p3 loved to make things harder for him when they first met he actually does love to pamper him when they become closer/date! It feeds into his masculine ego to do things around the house or go out and do things for p2, while p2 ‘sits there and looks pretty’ 🙄🙄🙄 he makes tons of jokes about it but actually enjoys letting p2 relax. P2 allows him to do whatever he wants sometimes but other times he just ignores him and does whatever tasks needs to be done himself.

Kinda related, he calls p2 his wife and yells “Honey! I’m home!” when he gets back from whatever. He makes sure to kiss him before he goes and when he comes back.

•P2 is actually more of the cuddler in the relationship 🤭 it takes him a bit to actually feel comfortable enough to sleep in the same bed as p3 (because he’s used to sleeping by himself when he was with the bitch) but when he does start feeling more relaxed, he pulls p3 closer in bed without even thinking about it. Like he will wake up with p3 in his arms or his head on his chest!!! He’d deny he started the cuddling though for a bit because he genuinely thinks p3 got him into that situation somehow 🙄 p3 would say some shit like “That was all you loverboy”

•Oh yeah!!! P3 calls him all kinds of nicknames. Lover-Boy, Sweetcheeks, Hun, Skippy, babe, and hot stuff are the main ones!! P2 sarcastically calls him Dear.

•On a day where p2 is doing particularly bad mentally & if p3 is staying home all day, he lets p2 wear his brown coat out as a way of being able to ground himself. P2 won’t admit it probably but the scent of p3 on it and how heavy it is on him (p3 is taller and larger than him) is very comforting to him. P3 can probably tell that anyways because p2 yanks it away from him to use as a blanket sometimes if p3 took it off.

P3 would wear p2s trench coat if he could but p2 is too short and tiny.. it doesn’t fit p3 well 🥲 but that’s fine.

•p2 also will not admit he finds p3s voice very sexy & that he likes his southern accent. The sound of his voice literally makes him shiver if he’s whispering in his ear or his voice is even deeper when he first wakes up.

•While p2 is cuddly in private, p3 is the one to throw a arm around him and loudly say inappropriate or loving things to him in public. I think p3 used to be kinda worried about being thought of as gay but once he actually yknow..gets with a guy he really loves, he doesn’t give a fuck anymore lol. If someone gives them shit for it he’ll gladly take care of it.

He’s also kinda handsy in general. He loves grabbing p2s face to make him look up at him.

•The height difference is definitely something he teases p2 for all the time. If p2 is struggling to reach something, here comes p3 all smug and pressed up behind him, asking if he needs any help. Which usually gets him cursed at thru mumbles. He’ll ask “What was that?” And not help p2 until he can stop with the attitude.

•If they travel somewhere to a beach and they are sitting on one together, p2 is glaring daggers at p3 because p3 is just like 😎 while tanning. He’s glaring because he knows p3 is gonna tan nicely like always while him himself is just gonna be pink.

•P3 had the audacity to try to show p2 how to shoot?! Like they were shooting for fun at targets one day and p3 came up behind him, put his hands on his to try to get him to aim better which pissed p2 off 🫤 he knows what he’s doing smh.

•P3 loves p2s attitude but wants to get rid of p2s attitude towards him at the same time LOL like he doesn’t care who p2 mouths offs to but will make life a little hellish if it’s to him. He should think about how blessed he is that he doesn’t get punched everytime he mentions something about manners 😳

•When they both head out to do chores together, p3 kinda drags p2 around and gets easily distracted more. He’s kinda honestly the reason why they get attacked 90% of the time but he’s protective & wouldn’t let anything too bad happen to p2 so it’s all fineeee :3

•When p3 gets hurt and p2 is patching him up, it’s non-stop flirting and joking. He’s smirking when p2 tells him to take off his shirt or pants to get to a wound & he won’t stop going on about p2 being his sexy nurse 🙄

When p3 is patching up p2, p3 makes it a lot more serious feeling and is super quiet because he feels guilty he got hurt. P2 will have to be the one who actually tries to start joking around & will have to remind him he’s no stranger to getting injured. If he’s able to lighten the mood, p3 will crack a joke or two before finishing up but still treats him like he’s made of glass for the rest of the night.

Awe I so love this ask. It made me all happy that I’m like someone that could get an ask about being slutty and hooking up. Not sure I’m the best at advice but I do like a chance to ramble on about stuff I like. Which slutty def is stuff I like lol

So I think there’s like too points w this. One is meeting the people. And second is the getting fucked part. Def feel like the first part is the harder part. Especially cause like I def still consider myself a bit of an anxious homebody. I think the apps are prolly like the easiest way to meet people but like you also deal w more time wasters. I’ve only been on one app, feeld, I like it but I have no comparisons (unless you count Fetlife which I don’t recommend for meeting hookups). Part of why I like feeld tho was I felt like it didn’t come off bad to not have a face pic on my profile and then I felt more comfortable being more straightforward about what I was looking forward. I do think if you do the apps you gotta be more straight forward and blunt about what you’re looking for and work on getting better at identifying those just who will just waist your time. I do generally aim to meet people quickly. Def encountered people who seem like they are just there to chat and I’m so not about that. Or they can’t lead things enough for me to thing it’d be a good fit, I rule Thah out fairly quick too. I also don’t feel like I’m doing anything that special on the app, like have some body pics in like dresses I wear out, and idk exactly what I have on my profile but it is very like I’m ideally looking for someone who can be more a fwb, like the friend part would be nice but also not a requirement. And something about big cocks.

I’m not as about meeting people in person bc I basically don’t like to go anywhere by myself other than like to the grocery stores. The for what like I’m saying like the second part is w like the getting fucked part. And other times I’m like nope, they aren’t a good fit. But like tbh they usually still got a blow job bc that made things a little more fun for me. I think that kinda covers what I do to actually try to move it forward from just like meeting up w someone. Episode 12: The One where Everyone Goes to Evil Summer School and Has a Bad Time

And we’re off to a bad start bc we’re at Evil Summer School and WC is monologuing like the world’s shittiest villain

His flunkies take everyone’s swords and wwx whispers “lan zhan” after watching lwj hand over his sword (LIKE, THE ONE THING HE HAS LEFT OF HIS HOME *SOBS*)

Lwj ignores him tho

And then keeps ignoring him

We get more useless wc monologuing

But we’ll ignore him and focus instead on how wwx keeps throwing worried little glances at lwj

So we see wwx being all studious

He and jc are dragging the wen clan for their hypocrisy and then wwx has an Epiphany

Wwx: hey, the Wen clan is so petty, they wouldn’t have just settled for LWJ attending Evil Summer School; they would’ve taken way more hostages I mean disciples!! SOMETHING BAD MUST’VE HAPPENED

And he leaps up with every intention of tracking down LWJ but some wen flunkies are guarding the door so that ends up being a no-go

But wwx is not deterred! No sir, he is coming up with a plan to finally get LWJ’s attention

Wwx goes up all cocky and starts THEATRICALLY doing STRETCHES even tho all he’s doing is RECITING LINES, OMG, WWX

Wwx: right, right, i got this. Okay, listen carefully~!

Wwx: *STARTS RECITING LAN CLAN RULES*

Now lwj FINALLY looks at him!!

And it only took 14min and wwx reciting his clan’s rules to FINALLY GET A REACTION

And then he literally pats himself on the back with a pleased little smirk

And that’s how jzx, lwj, and wwx end up in Evil Detention carrying manure to the vegetable fields

Lwj is just pouring the manure out of the buckets

Wwx: lan zhan, you want me to find you a scooper?

Lwj: *ignores him*

Jzx: *unwillingly bears witness to this and rolls his eyes*

(don’t even, jzx, you het disaster)

Wwx: hey lan zhan, how come your clan has a silencing spell but not a spell that blocks out gross smells?

Lwj: *picks up empty buckets and leaves, CONTINUING TO IGNORE WWX FOR SOME INEXPLICABLE REASON*

Here wwx just sloppily dumps out his buckets and chases after him

As they walk over to wherever they need to go to refill their buckets, wwx starts asking lwj Plot Questions and generally worrying about him

Which could’ve become a sweet moment

Except that wc shows up to ruin the moment with his, you know, general existence

So obviously wwx has to go and insult wc to his face, right? HE WAS TRYING TO HAVE QUALITY TIME WITH HIS SOULMATE, GODDAMNIT

Wc tries to whip wwx but wwx catches it like a BADASS and is all “don’t try me”

But then wc gets his flunkies to tie up wwx!! (i’m telling you guys, this clan really seems to have a thing for tying/chaining people up)

Lwj sees that his soulmate is defenseless and is like, can’t have that happening and goes to defend him!!

Ugghhh but that ASSHOLE WEN CHAO GOES AND HITS LWJ ON HIS INJURED LEG WHICH SENDS LWJ TUMBLING INTO THE GROUND

Wwx: HEY, leave him alone! I was the one insulting you!!

DO YOU SEE THAT GUYS?? THEY ALWAYS DEFEND EACH OTHER!!

And actually this starts up a general pattern for them: lwj always defends wwx physically and wwx always defends lwj verbally

IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL. THEY COVER EACH OTHER’S WEAK SPOTS WITHOUT EVEN REALIZING IT!! 

(lwj isn’t all that good with words as you know, and wwx has this talent of making everyone around him want to punch him in the face, his beautiful beautiful face)

Wc goes to whip wwx again, but LWJ gets up on his feet in an instant (even with the leg wound!!) and catches the whip ONE-HANDED AND YANKS IT OUT OF WC’S GRASP

LIKE, DON’T FUCKING TOUCH MY SOULMATE YOU SLIMY BASTARD

Obvs he didn’t say that, but you can see it in his eyes that that’s exactly what he was thinking, word-for-word. Trust me on this.

The wen flunkies release wwx who drops to the ground and lwj immediately grabs him by the arm

He doesn’t try to lift him up and he’s not actually holding him up

So why the arm-grabbing?

BC HE WANTS TO BE NEAR WWX, THAT’S WHY

Srsly, injured leg!! And it doesn’t even slow him down when it comes to protecting wwx!! And he stretches out his arm so his pretty white sleeves mostly cover wwx from view

Wc: don’t worry, the dungeon’s big enough for two (wc you slimy bastard, you’re ruining everyone’s sex dungeon fantasies)

Wwx: *pushes away lwj’s arm* nah, just take me. The dungeon’s bound to be cooler than being out on these sunny fields anyway lol

And now we have this terrible moment where we see wwx be well and truly terrified for the first time in the show

He’s thrown into the dungeon WHILE CHAINED UP and there’s this HUGE MUTANT DOG MONSTER

Poor wwx visibly pales and breaks out into a cold sweat while wen chao mocks him (I HATE HIM SO MUCH)

Okay, i’d like to take a moment here to fully acknowledge that this dog monster thing is, like, really horrible effects-wise. We all know this. But we’re gonna pretend for sake of the Emotional Trauma it causes our darling wwx that it’s actually a big scary thing, okay?

Anyway

WEN NING TO THE RESCUE - knocks out the dog with strategically placed needles and provides wwx Medicine Pouch and Medicine Bottle 

he’s like, i stole medicine for you bc we’re bffs and i’d die for you (which he does eventually lololol I’M SORRY THAT WAS AWFUL)

I’m sure you’re all hey trensu, this isn’t a wangxian moment you said this was a wangxian guide, what the heck

BUT IT IS A WANGXIAN MOMENT and also it sets us up for ANOTHER wangxian moment later on in the show!

It’s a wangxian moment now bc wen ning provides the info wwx has been trying to get this whole time, aka what the heck is up with lwj and the cloud recesses?

Wwx looks utterly DEVASTATED when wn tells him lwj’s home was burned

And when he tells wwx about the wens breaking lwj’s leg?

FUCKING FURIOUS

HE’S SO ANGRY THAT THEY HURT HIS LAN ZHAN

HE PUNCHES THE STONE FLOOR OF HIS CELL WITH AN ALREADY BLOODIED UP HAND

acne skin care rant:

y’know i think one of the reasons why young men (or maybe just all men in general) don’t look after their skin and still have bad acne in their 20s etc (unless of course they had a dermatologist through their parents health insurance or asked their gp for advice or something)..... is because all the acne skin care brand ads like neutrogena (abbreviated to NG later in this post), clean & clear (c&c), clearasil; biore and hell even pro-activ.... were all largely aimed at young girls/women.

for example, when I was going through high school, and for a little bit of time after that, the face of neutrogena was vanessa hudgens; clean & clear always had female models for their ads, as did clearasil & biore and every other face skin care brand on chemist shelves. like the only thing that I ever saw that was “designed for tough & stubborn acne prone male skin” was oxy 10 acne spot treatment creams; which NEVER had ads on tv. and I only knew of oxy 10 because i bought it to get rid of my awful facial acne and back acne for my year 10 formal/junior prom. creams like oxy 10, when advertised from other brands, were aimed again largely at teen girls and focused on having zit zappers for dates or “prom”. like hell, you could’ve easily slipped a promo for any of these into a fall out boy video and given it to idk patrick stump in the dance, dance music video from 2005 lmao???? or again you could’ve easily marketed a similar cream with pete wentz (sorry for the rock scene thing here lol) or idk jesse mccartney or frankie muniz for a mainstream male celeb at the time, for the male face of any of these brands????

like the only the brand listed above that tried to half-heartedly market to dudes on the tv was pro-activ, where they’d have “reviewers/ real life customers” or whatever in the ads and every so often they’d have a guy saying how “pro-activ changed my life” or some shit. and that it was an “unscented, soap free, medical formula” (or however they phrased it).

that’s the other problem, in a way, with the other brands listed... they all had “feminine” scents like orange and bergamot or whatever, which most guys shun as being “too girly” bc of bullshit toxic masculinity.... like the only “manly” sort of scented face wash I used was neutrogena’s invigorating scrub which was like sea salt or whatever scented.

although neutrogena does have some great neutral smelling/scented facial cleansers and stuff, I’m pretty sure again, that many young teenage guys would shun/shy away from ingredients like witch hazel or orange & bergamot or whatever the fuck else they put into these soaps. all because, lets say, their sister uses/used them, or one of their female friends at school talks about it..... or obviously the face of NG is probs still a woman (like vanessa hudgens, again back when I was in HS) or the face of clearasil is some random female model..... so why on earth would they use something that they perceive as “girly” or “feminine” when there’s no male face to these brands aimed at young male teenagers/young men????

like it’s almost 2020, and I have no idea who the current faces are of the skin care brands that I’ve mentioned in this post..... but for the love of fucking god, can these brands shove Zac Efron or idk Daniel Radcliffe or even micheal b jordan...... or finally some random, popular young male youtuber or whatever into a spokesman/person role..... so that young men will use these products and know how to look after their skin???? like how many young teen boys and young men would latch onto these brands if any of the above guys listed (or maybe even a young male athlete... sadly i don’t know any lmao.... but y’all get my drift yeah??) were a spokesperson for them???? probably a fucking fair few, let’s be real here. like I’m ngl, if I was a dude, and any of those male stars did an acne ad campaign.... I would fucking buy straight into it, right a-fucking-way. sign me the fuck up now, actually. lmao 😂.

because looking back, I knew quite a few dudes in school that had bad skin/general acne, and I’m pretty sure if they’d known about oxy 10 or other male oriented brands for facial/acne skin care.... they would’ve of used those products.... instead of ignoring NG/c&c.... or if NG or c&c werent made to seem like they were solely marketed towards girls/young women (other than pro-activ obvs)... and if these guys not had perceived scents like witch hazel/orange & bergamot/pink grapefruit/green tea as feminine etc., they would have used NG or c&c etc etc etc. to treat their acne, rather than refusing to use the brands.

just learn how to market acne treatments (as well as normal skin care products) to young guys. period!!!!! because there were quite a few more dudes with terrible, persistent acne (meaning cystic acne etc) than girls, like myself, with cystic acne, when I went through high school. and the dudes probs still have no idea how to look after their skin (unless they’re on acne meds from their GP or other medical professionals, like I finally took to using in 2012/2013)..... while I’ve tried nearly every fucking facial skin care/facial acne treatment brand on the chemist shelf; to even luxury sc brands and normal acne meds to curb my cystic acne.... and that was because of all the skin care ads being aimed at young women or because some famous woman like kylie jenner (rip to high school me) or Rihanna recommended a luxury acne sc brand once in an interview, for example (ie. Mario badescu).

just.... acne brands need to learn that their demographics are much bigger than teenage girls/young women concerned about their looks and loving skincare. because boys have bad skin far more often. but male body products, unless we’re talking about lynx Africa or nivea for men aftershave or something; are largely ignored or not even advertised to teen boys or young men struggling with any form of acne. because for some reason, to these brands, male acne doesn’t apparently seem to be an actual thing...

and i think the above is because male acne is usually associated with the creepy loser nerd guy archetype in tv shows/movies; who is always a background character mentioned in passing or whatever.... but facial product companies don’t want to focus on that image at all... instead they want the hunky good looking macho dude who has perfect skin (who ironically probably has no idea how to look after his skin most of the time anyway) who wants to be the centre of attention and is the epitome of male bravado. so the creepy loser nerd guy with acne archetype just doesn’t fit this ad market.... unless they get a makeover to turn into the pinnacle of male bravado by the end of the ad; much like lynx Africa ads always did when I was in high school.

so, to conclude: skincare brands need to learn how to market to teen boys and young men both with acne products and general skincare products, much more often. because then more people in this age demographic would know how to look after their skin and know how to treat skin problems like acne with more serious care than what they might do.

tbh i think square/disney really wanted the organization to be bad™ and irredeemable™ but they shot themself in the foot after they sprinkled in the various moments where its established that the individuals of the org arent inherently evil. which means that them having ienzo be a child originally makes it strange to have such malicious hate aimed at him in the same series where characters are expected to grow and learn and sympathize. but idk lol

im taking this chance to ramble under the cut , wh e e z e. Warning for KH3 spoilers and Mod Demyx rant rant

in my humble ass opinion, it really just feels like Nomura had a bunch of cool ideas in general, but then the train went rogue and they started adding a shit ton of plot twists (that they’d later have to explain and make relevant to the main plot) for the sake of continuing the saga and milking more money bc KH was part of so many people’s childhoods

like, it’s one of my fave games and sagas ever but to be honest, i’d love for some other company to fucking remake the entire plot without the pretense of “we gotta be kid friendly bc Disney is here uwu”. Like, you can’t really be dramatic and make any important events when every character is just gonna come back, only killing off those that you don’t know how to continue.

and it’s such a weird fucking ? amalgamation of stuff too ? not even the fact that we’re mixing talking animals,disney princesses and final fantasy shit into it, but like - sometimes it shows scenes that are too dark for Disney and sometimes it just skims over shit that it should have some proper closure because o h it’s too dark for a kid’s game. And then even deeper shit is hinted in the novels and manga bUT TYING BACK TO MY PREVIOUS ANSWERED POST, YOU CAN’T EXPAND ON LORE TO MAKE YOUR CREATION MORE STABLE LIKE THIS - IF YOU WANT TO EXPLAIN OR EXPAND UPON SOMETHING, HAVE B A L L S AND DO IT IN THE GAME, WHICH IS THE MAIN FOCUS 

Like, in KH3 they wanted everyone to get redeemed and “close off a chapter of this story” but honestly ? it was fucking rushed and done in a pretty shitty way, in my opinion. 

Ienzo just shows up wanting to help and there’s no repercussions to his actions as a nobody, he’s just like “uwu hi” and everyone’s too caught up in Sora having a phone to even care that this was one of the guys that gave them h e l l in Castle Oblivion. Same with the other apprentices, Aeleus and Dilan get no spoken lines, just a line explaining how they also wanted to be better tossed in all carelessly. That’s their redemption. 

And don’t get me wrong, I fucking adore Zexion/Ienzo, he was my crush as a kid, but ? he’s just used to show that Nobodies can be chill and they’ve been all controlled by a bigger evil, as well as part of Ansem’s own redeeming arc instead of having his O W N redeeming arc. He’s virtually useless despite all the protagonism they gave him in KH3, cause sure he calls Sora to let him know shit and he’s supposedly “working on Big Stuff for the Good Guys(tm)”, but all of this work and character development happens off-screen. Same with Vexen/Even - and he at least gets like two scenes showing that he actively works in the shadows to redeem himself. 

And I know it’s hard to make a game and they’ve been at it for a long fucking time and it requires a lot of shit but ? ? ? hONESTLY I DONT KNOW ABOUT YOU ALL BUT I PREFER TO GET A SOLID CLOSURE ON THE MAIN SHIT  AND THEN MAYBE GET MORE CLOSURE FOR LESS BUT STILL IMPORTANT GROUPS IN OTHER GAMES OR REMIXES SINCE THEYRE SUPER KEEN ON MAKING A SHIT TON OF SPIN-OFFS AND STUFF. LIKE, THAT SEEMS BETTER THAN HAVING A LOT OF SMALLER PLOTS JUST SPRINKLED THERE LIKE “WHOOPS AND THEY WERE ALL HAPPY AGAIN” 

cAUSE THEY DON’T EVEN STOP THERE. THEY TRY TO CLOSE A LOT OF SHIT, BUT THEN ADD A LOT OF VAGUE CRYPTIC SHIT FOR THE UPCOMING GAMES AND STORIES ? ? ? 

like I love the final battle part a lot because it’s ? ? ? so fucking badass and it’s the end of all this journey we’ve been on, it’s Sora vs Xenahort, it’s the light vs the darkness, it’s Master Eraqus’ legacy vs Xenahort’s army. 

but it’s just an easy cheap way to close off so much shit in a short time.

the sea salt trio ? reunited. the wayfinder trio ? reunited. the remaining Nobodies who still have no fucking backstories ? gone with a hint of “we’ll be back as good guys”. Like, they added fucking Ephemera as the “light from the past”, inviting the connection between the current timeline with KHux bUT THERE’S STILL NOTHING ON LAURIAM/MARLUXIA. AND THEN THERE’S A FUCKING CUTSCENE OF VENTUS HUGGING A FUCKING CHIRITHY LIKE, YOURE NOT EXPLAINING NOR HELPING ANYONE, NOMURA.

LIKE THE SECRET CUTSCENE IMPLIES 2 THINGS : NEW CHARACTERS (FROM RIKU’S POINT OF VIEW, SINCE HE’S WATCHED BY YOZORA) AND THE COME BACK OF THE TWEWY FRANCHISE WHOSE INVOLVEMENT HAD BEEN COMPLETELY IGNORED AND JUST ABANDONED SINCE DDD. SURE, DREAM EATERS WERE HELLA IMPORTANT AND THERE’S SLEEPING WORDS THERE. AND THERE’S IMPORTANT SHIT GOING ON WITH VANITAS AND THE UNVERSED. BUT ALL WE GOT WAS A DREAM EATER SUMMONING, LIKE 5 UNVERSED ENEMIES AND MORE UNNECESSARY CONFUSION

Like I get it that KH3 was supposed to be the ending of some things and the beginning of other new things and I get that there were a lot of setbacks and things involved, but even with it’s amazing graphics and fun gameplay, it’s still another trainwreck regarding plot. But we all just keep eating it up because we’re desperate to know how it ends and bc childhood nostalgia keeps us here at gunpoint

also i’m mad that out of all KH girls, only Aqua got her time to shine. Like sure, you can argue and say that Kairi took the spotlight after saving Sora again and being a good 70% of Sora’s strength, but as usual she was thrown back into her spot as “princess in distress”, with her training and character development happening off-screen in a place that conveniently has no effect to the current events. And speaking of training, she just immediately becomes besties with Axel despite all the shit they went through with him trying to kidnap her and whatnot. And sPEAKING OF AXEL, HE GOT WAY MORE DEVELOPMENT THAN ROXAS OR XION OR KAIRI OR AQUA HERSELF

AND THAT’S SAYING SOMETHING CAUSE AQUA GOES THROUGH A LOT OF SHIT IN THIS GAME - She finally succumbs to darkness, she goes out of it, she saves Ven, reunites with Terra and after sO MANY FUCKING YEARS, she’s back on the realm of light. And that moment when she asks where they are and they tell her she’s back home and she raises her head to look at the sun and she cries ? ? that made me S H I V E R and TEAR UP MYSELF - but still, after all of that she goes to pretty much doing nothing while Axel here goes through a keyblade training, seeing Kairi as Xion, making ammends with his best friend, reuniting with his two adopted kids after so much shit and hinting anOTHER SUBPLOT WITH HIM, ISA AND A “SECRET GIRL” FRIEND THEY HAD.

BUT FROM XION WE ONLY GET THE PLOT CONVENIENT COMEBACK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BATTLE SO SHE CAN REUNITE WITH HER FRIENDS. A BIT OF INNER ANGST HERE AND THERE AND BOOM IT’S OVER SHE’S HAPPY NOW. 

AND NAMINE ? DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED. SHE’S GONE FOR SO LONG, ONLY SHOWING UP AS A STAR, MENTIONED OFF HAND BY KAIRI AND THEN SHE FINALLY GETS HER DESERVED LIFE IN THE ENDING CUTSCENE WHEN RIKU COMES TO PICK HER ASS UP. (im also mad that everyone got a happy/bittersweet ending except Vanitas and Repliku but that’s just me being sad aBOUT MY SONS)

So while I was in NYC, I got to see Mean Girls, Spongebob Squarepants, and Anastasia. It was really a combination of lottery winnings and tkts, though I did splurge and get myself the Mean Girls ticket ahead of time. Despite how I got the rest of the tickets, I actually had pretty good seats at all the shows! So that part was nice.

More in-depth thoughts under a cut, but can I just say how weird it is that like... I think I had the most fun at Spongebob? I only went bc I won the lottery but like. I genuinely enjoyed that show. lol. Reminds me of when I went to see Shrek: The Musical on a lark with my friend, and we were shocked that it’s actually a great show.

I saw Spongebob first, an evening show. It was also my most high-pain day, so I have to admit that something funny and a little stupid (with a good heart) was probably exactly what I needed. The music was fun and catchy (not a shock, I guess, considering the people they got to do music for them) and the actors did a really spectacular job. I realized after coming home that I had some different actors than appear on the recording, but I liked my actors more. The Mr. Krabs I saw sounded so spot-on that it was a little creepy, lol, and our Plankton was super fun. I was kind of shocked when the guy who played Squidward started talking in a straight-up British accent after the show, lmao.

I laughed at a lot of the jokes, and though I never really expected to see Patrick Star leading a cult, it was apparently exactly what I wanted out of my evening. Plus, it actually had some pretty good lessons for kids. Don’t turn on each other and scapegoat immigrants when bad things happen, think for yourselves and always try to fix problems rather than running away from them, sometimes people say things that sound profound but won’t actually help you, diversity is valuable… I think it kind of veered into a trope I’m not in love with (immigrants are great because they’re useful) but I think it was also good for kids to see a character who was female (and played by a black woman) who was fantastic at science, kind, determined, and the one who ultimately saves the day. I also liked that the show was clear that her pain and wariness didn’t go away just because people started accepting her again. I think it managed to go in on some really good lessons without ever feeling preachy about it.

Plus, again, the show was just super fun. I love how it played with the space (like the way the actors kept interacting with the band and the conductor) and the jokes were genuinely funny. Patchy wandering around and trying to crash the show was great. The songs were catchy and fun and it was really cohesively done. Also, I think it really managed to nail the feeling of the characters and this underwater world without being too on-the-nose. (I’m looking at you, Little Mermaid.)

Was it the deepest, most memorable show I’ve ever seen? No. But it was a lot of fun, and fun is frankly what I needed right then.

Next, I saw Mean Girls. I’ll admit that my enjoyment of this show was marred by a couple things. It’s not the most accessible theater (I never did get to see the merch booth…) and the lead actress was out. There was a standby actress who could play like… 6-7 different characters? And I was really ??? when I saw that, like. There were really two options. Either she’s the best actress on earth, who can totally transform herself so she can play such diverse roles… or she’s generic af. Unfortunately, she turned out to be the latter. Like, don’t get me wrong! She was technically proficient and could sing really well! She just didn’t feel like Cady. There was something missing there, y’know? Some spark or charisma. She was just boring to watch, which kind of dampened the whole show. I overheard that it was her first time playing Cady, though, so idk. Maybe she was just nervous.

That aside, though, I did enjoy the show! It was a Wednesday (so I did wear pink) and it had a lot of the heart of the movie. It was really funny, and I liked how Janice and Damien were used to frame the show. They made for great, hilarious narrators. I really enjoyed most of the songs, too. Some were a little forgettable, I’ll admit, but others were really touching (particularly Gretchen’s solos) or super funny. Damien sings a whole song about how sometimes you just need to STOP and I loved it. The song was hilarious. The script itself was packed with good stuff. There were great jokes and good social commentary, more depth for some of the forgotten side characters and some really touching moments.

Plus, Cady aside, the rest of the actors did a tremendous job. My one gripe with the original movie is that… idk, the actress who played Regina George never quite felt like she could actually be a queen bee in a real school. Is that weird to say? The other girls around her just felt prettier and more charismatic, so it was hard to buy that she would actually be in charge. The Regina in the musical, though? Holy shit, you feel it. That woman could walk through Times Square and every eye would be on her. She did an absolutely fantastic job with Regina, and the other huge standouts to me were Gretchen and Janice. Just excellent, excellent jobs all around. I really love how much time the show gave to Gretchen so you could really get where she was coming from. Get that poor girl a therapist, honestly.

I think part of the problem is that, all things considered, it’s difficult not to compare Mean Girls to Heathers. And frankly, Heathers is a better show, imo. They’re both good! But I do sort of feel like Mean Girls could’ve gone in a little harder, and its music wasn’t nearly as memorable as Heathers’s. That said, like Heathers, Mean Girls: The Musical has a LOT more potential for f/f than the movie. lmao. And isn’t that really what we’re all here for?

(I mean no, probably not, but it’s what I’m here for.)

The third show I saw was Anastasia, and I gotta admit it. I’m shocked how much I didn’t like Anastasia. I’ve been wanting to see it for ages because that movie was my childhood, but I bounced hard off that show. Like I was kind of hanging in there for the first act, but I was literally wishing I could check my watch during the second act. Plus we had an u/s for Dmitri and he was. Not fabulous. I always feel bad saying that about understudies but like. He was……… not fabulous. So the criticisms I have going forward about Dmitri in the show might be colored by that. Bear with me.

Now, the show is super different from the movie. And I understand why they chose to go for realism rather than fantasy, but I disagree with that choice very, very firmly. Not only did it make the whole show a real fucking downer, but like… I feel like when you make movies about real people, you either have to go completely realistic or go real fucking far off the deep end. Like the movie really went in on the near-mythic stature that Anastasia and Rasputin had in history and folklore during that period. It went in hard with magic and zombies and had a real fairy tale feeling that only really worked because of the wild tales people were already telling about the historical personages. No one watched the animated movie about Anastasia and went “wow, I bet that’s just like real life”.

The show decided that they wanted to be more realistic and talk about like. God, execution of political prisoners and people starving in the streets and refugees and just generally the politics of Leningrad. So not only was that fucking depressing, but it really pulled things back to be like… If you’re being all realistic about this, shouldn’t you be more realistic about the real life people you’re using for this story? This isn’t how Anastasia’s life went, and I can buy that in a fantasy what if? AU, but when you’re aiming for gritty realism, then telling this story about a person who was executed (and yes, we now know she was executed) is just… It feels disrespectful, y’know?

Plus once you start bringing in the real politics of the world, I’m going to start examining the characters through a real historical lens. A love triangle is annoying and unnecessary anyway, but you managed to make it fucking creepy by having this guy stalk her after his dad killed her entire family, and while he’s still working for an oppressive regime. That’s not romantic! But you also managed to fuck up royally by making that actor far more handsome and charismatic, not to mention a much better singer, than the actual love interest!

Like! Dmitri only barely worked in the movie, y’know? You have to straddle such a fine, fine line with a lovable con man. If you take out the lovable, he’s just a fucking con man. And in the show, he just felt like a con man. Again, the fact that the u/s couldn’t sing all that well (he went sour several times and sometimes sounded just like Ernie, of Sesame Street, which is kind of the opposite of sexy) did not help things. But he was also just a fucking dick to Anya and it was difficult to tell why she liked him, other than the writing’s new decision to make her basically a street urchin like him. (As in, she’d been living on the street for many years previous to the show’s start — he also never worked in the palace and saved her life in the musical; it was never actually stated how she escaped in the musical.)

The actress who played Anya did an amazing job, but the writing for her character was pretty ??? most of the time. Like I get that you want to make her feisty (and why did you choose AN ATTEMPTED RAPE TO DISPLAY HER STRENGTH?) but if she’s really so street smart, why does she constantly make bizarre decisions? Why does she want to go to Paris if she doesn’t have the Together In Paris necklace? Why is she having a weird love triangle between a man who verbally abuses her and a government official who wants her dead? WHY DID YOU MAKE IT CLEAR THAT SHE HAD A DOG AND THE DOG IS DEAD? Poor Pooka!

Speaking of people I can’t root for knowing actual historical fact, they changed Sophie into an ex-Russian dilettante named Lily who spends all her time complaining that she used to be rich af in Russia and it’s so sad that all of the Russian elite had to give up their major Russian fortunes so they could… have minor French fortunes and cushy jobs. Like every time they started reminiscing about the good ol’ days in Russia, I was just like “oh right, that’s why they had a revolution, eat the fucking rich”. Like the new background they made up just made me despise her and all her friends.

They also made Anastasia’s grandma kind of a bitch. You’re really kind of forcibly reminded how awful monarchies can be whenever she talks about politics! And that cute, short scene in the movie where she finally meets Anya? Drawn out to like a half hour of this old woman rambling about how awful the world is and how she hates everyone and Anya is just a tricksy bitch. Fun times for all!

Plus like. I don’t remember a single song from the musical that wasn’t in the movie. I hate that they took out all of the magic and the talking animals and Rasputin (how did they never even mention the HISTORICAL one?) and they just had to rub it in by cannibalizing In The Dark of The Night and turning it into a depressing-ass song about political refugees who were fleeing Russia and would never see it again. (Note: the singer of this song was shot in the head by Russian authorities shortly after singing it.)

The only thing the musical really did was make me so sad for these people who had a revolution because their rulers were deeply corrupt and used the lives of the poor like pawns, and then had an equally corrupt government regime move in. The people were starving either way! And the musical trying to romanticize all that (they kind of wanted to acknowledge the historical crimes but still make me like the people who caused the problems??) just felt awful. They tried to work this story in with the real historical timeline by being like YEAH SHE WAS REAL AND THEY REUNITED BUT THEN SHE DECIDED TO LEAVE AND NEVER TELL ANYONE WHO SHE WAS AGAIN SO THE CREEP IN THE GOVERNMENT DIDN’T GET IN TROUBLE AND NO ONE EVER KNEW THAT THE REAL ANASTASIA WAS ALIVE. Like what. No. They found her fucking corpse. You can’t try to follow real life and have her actually be Anastasia. You can’t have your cake and eat it too! Do you want to make a musical about the plight of the Russians during this time period, or do you want to write a fairy tale? You can’t do both! All you’ve managed to do is play out some bad history and make me feel kind of gross.

….and boring music, questionable politics, and fuckin dreariness aside, the writing was just bad. The second act dragged on and on and on because they would never say in a minute what they could say in an hour. I was kind of bored and annoyed both. If you’re going to change a story and add an hour and a half of material, it better be good material. And it wasn’t. The only bright spots for me were the spectacular costumes (really gorgeous), the interesting sets, and the woman who plays Anastasia.

Other than that, I was not thrilled. All it did was make me want to go watch the ding-dang movie so I could just see the ding-dang bat.

What does it tell you about my school if I say the average on our first NBME exam without a curve was 91%? I got a 95%, and I’m not surprised. I was really well-prepared. And to be fair, it was literally only biochem/genetics/immuno/pharm that we covered, and we haven’t learned THAT much about each of those. But still. I was really well-prepared.

What else does it tell you about my school if I can score 95% on the final and still only be approximately average in my class as a whole? Seriously guys, my classmates are fucking insane. It’s definitely not a bad thing. I’ve adjusted to the fact that I’m about average awhile ago. I’d like to aim to be in the top half, but like, that’s one of those goals that’s “doable but challenging”. Plus, they are all SO HELPFUL. One of the class co-presidents has been making question-bank powerpoints for each of our exams with material from Lippencotts, BRS, Robbins, etc. She is probably the only reason I’m doing as well as I am (again, “as well as I am” being approximately average). Cuts down on a LOT of time for me. Fucking bless her lol.

What really sucked for me this week was the transition from the week before my final (where I did basically nothing except drive an hour to where my car broke down to get a new car & empty out the old one and play dating sims) & that weekend (friend came down and we went out basically constantly) to school again. My first exam for our cellular block is on Tuesday and I am so far behind because I just have noooooo motivation. I miss doing nothing. And I really think this stuff sucks a lot more, too. Like, I LOVE biochem. Biochem SUCKS, but I LOVE it. I always have. Now we’re doing embryology (which is interesting but a fucking mess), immunology pt 2 (our professor for it is all over the place so I’m gonna go look over B&B for it. It’s like a mix of molecular immunology like T/B cell activation shit and like, inflammation and lymphatics, idk), microbiology, and random other stuff. WHO KNOWS. I think it’s all fucking boring LOL. I’m really trying to be productive because I’m going for wine tonight ($10 for four full glasses... they’re supposed to be like “sample” size but my friend is in with the owner or maybe they’re just generous) and hanging with my friends. I spent this morning taking care of myself meditating and journalling and then some of my besties and I lifted, so that was good, but I didn’t get started on anything until close to 3, and like I said, I’m already behind. Not stressed though, just bored. And obviously procrastinating by being on Tumblr

I did end up getting to be the communications chair for the free clinic I was talking about earlier! Basically I just showed aggressive interest before I knew about the application and went to a meeting, so when I went for my informal interview with the current chair, she was like “OK, you got the job, I just want to get to know you.” SCORE. I’m working on looking over the policies/procedures document and getting together a FAQ so ppl know about the clinic when it opens. Mostly I won’t have to do much until the current chair starts Step dedicated but I’ll be going to the meetings and trying to get involved anyway because anything but studying amirite

The women’s health thing is more of a toss-up. I think I expressed aggressive interest for that, too, but I found out there are 8 applicants and they will only accept 5-6. And like I’ve said in the past, everyone at my school is so fucking qualified! But this is what I want to do with my LIFE. I went to this research symposium that the M2s put on and met with the current women’s health scholars to talk about their research and they told me that they didn’t get informed of who got in the scholars program until March. But that’s super annoying bc people are going to start applying for summer research funding in December and January. I might e-mail the research coordinator of the women’s health scholars program and be like “Look, I’m interested in women’s health research outside AND inside of the scholars program, so can you set me up with something regardless of whether I’m accepted?” Plus that’s also another aggressive push of my interest. I’ll probably wait until December. Who knows.
