Chapter 7
Jooheon and Minhyuk arrived at the dorm around 7:30 at night. They hadn’t said much on the way, especially since Jooheon couldn’t get Jules' image out of his head. She was... angry? Sad? Disappointed? All the above?
Pfff, why didn’t I say something? Jooheon reproached himself, how hard is it to ask if she’s okay? God, Jooheon, wake up. You can’t fall for the same thing as Changkyung.
Minhyuk noticed that his friend was not in the mood for a conversation and was still trying to figure out why he had volunteered to help him with the exhibition when Jooheon got bored only hearing the word "art". It obviously had something to do with the curator, Seo Julianne. Minhyuk remembered that was also the name that came in the invitation of the reunion of Jooheon’s high school class; he still remembered the way in which the rapper had jumped out of bed after hearing that name. However, there was also the detail that Jooheon was on a hiatus, he was not working, and had to go to therapy... Would it be a good idea for him to take on a project like this? True, it had nothing to do with music and it would keep him busy, it wouldn’t have to be counterproductive, right?
"Jooheon-ah" Minhyuk told him as they both entered the dorm. "Be honest, why did you volunteer to help me with the project?".
"I want to help you, hyung," Jooheon replied a little surprised by the sudden nature of the question. "This exhibition is something you’ve wanted to do for some time, not to mention the Monbebes have been waiting for it. I don’t want you to lose your motivation for lack of time and, well, I may not know how to paint, but I have plenty of time right now, you know? And I know you well enough not to do anything tasteless".
"And Julie-ssi?" Minhyuk asked. "She has nothing to do with it?"
Jooheon was quiet for a while.
"Hyung, Jules... I haven’t seen or heard from her in years, hyung," Jooheon began. "She was... very important in my life and, at a certain point, during the madness of this idol life, I forgot about her. Remember the pictures my mother sent at our last concert? Jules was in most of them," Jooheon recalled as a smile appeared on his face. "At that moment, all my memories of us cascaded back and I started thinking about her again. I even thought about calling my mother and asking her what happened to Jules, and you see, I just... I just found her".
Minhyuk had never seen his friend talk like that about anyone and, although Jooheon did not notice, his eyes screamed the words that the rapper did not dare to articulate. Well, Jooheon has never disappointed me, Minhyuk thought, it would be nice to give it a try.
"Okay, Jooheon-ah," Minhyuk said in a determined tone, "you are in charge of the exhibition. Tomorrow I’ll sign the papers and I’ll put your information so you can be my spokesman".
"Hyung, are you serious? Are you serious?" Jooheon asked excitedly.
"You better do a good job. Monbebe has waited long enough," Minhyuk said.
"YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH" shouted Jooheon of excitement as he raised Minhyuk in a bear hug.
Once he put his friend on the floor, Jooheon hurried to the door of the apartment and began to put on his shoes hastily.
"Wait, where are you going?" Minhyuk asked. "We just arrived, and you know I don’t like to dine alone".
"I’m sorry, hyung" apologized Jooheon opening the door. "I have a lot to do... to read. I have... I have to go. See you later!" And with that goodbye, he exited the dorm and slammed the door shut.
Jooheon ran down the stairs and before reaching the first floor collided head-on with Shownu and Kihyun, who were returning from their activities.
"Woah! You all right, Jooheon-ah?" Shownu asked as he held Jooheon before he fell to the floor. "What’s up?"
"And Changkyung? Where is he?" Jooheon asked, ignoring Shownu.
"Changkyungnie? Well... he went to his apartment, I think," Kihyun replied. "Is everything all right? Why the rush?"
"Yes, yes, yes, everything is fine, but I have to go," said Jooheon hastily.
The rapper ran down what was left of the stairs and disappeared through the front door of the building.
"That was..." Shownu began without finding what to say.
"At least it’s a change," Kihyun said with a shrug. "Come on, he’s not going to tell us anything while he’s in that state. Maybe I.M. will tell us later, it seems that Jooheon needs him for something".
*********
Thirty minutes later, Jooheon was in front of I.M.’s apartment. Without thinking twice, he inserted the code into the digital lock on the door and let himself in.
"Changkyung!" Jooheon shouted.
Indeed, the maknae was in his apartment... but he was not alone. Liv was with him, and Jooheon had trouble processing the image of both of them, together, on the couch watching a movie as a normal couple. However, he recovered quickly enough to annoy the youngest member of the group:
"Hyung? What is it? Is everything all right?" I.M. asked with concern as he got up from the sofa. The truth is that the slam-door, plus Jooheon’s scream, plus the crazy face he had was not a very reassuring image and I.M.’s mind could only imagine the worst scenarios.
"Ah? Me? Mmmm, and what about you?" Jooheon asked in a naughty voice. Now the rapper was suppressing the laughter and the urge to bother Liv and I.M. "Do I interrupt your night? Your night alone?"
"AISH, HYUNG!" shouted I.M. "Get serious. You can’t just walk into people’s homes. I have neighbors, you know?"
"Yaaaaah, our Changkyungnie is a family man, eh?" Jooheon continued, raising an eyebrow.
"Hyung, why are you here?"
"Kyun, calm down" intervened Liv before the two rappers began to argue. "Jooheon, is everything okay? You scared entering like that".
"Ah, yes, I’m sorry," Jooheon apologized. "Everything is fine. I didn’t know Changkyung had company, but... I need a favor and it’s urgent".
"A favor?" asked I.M. "Tell me, hyung, what do you need?"
"Tell me everything you know about art... and philosophy... and those deep things you always talk to Kihyun and Minhyuk".
"Sorry?" asked I.M. stunned. He didn’t understand what was going on with Jooheon.
"You heard me. Give me a couple of intensive classes on what I need to know... ah, and I have about... three or four days? Yes. So make it short, okay?"
Neither Liv nor I.M. knew what to say. This was a pretty radical change in Jooheon’s attitude of the last few months and, while Liv hadn’t seen him much, she knew from I.M. the hard time Jooheon was going through. The two hoped that he would soon be his old self again, but neither imagined that old Jooheon would resurface with such a... impossible request.
"Hyung, that’s impossible," sighed I.M. "I mean, what you’re asking me... I wouldn’t even know where to start and..."
"It doesn’t matter, it doesn’t matter" Jooheon cut it. "You just talk, and I take notes. Believe it or not, I can pay attention when I intend to".
"It’s not that... it’s that..." Changkyung didn’t know how to make Jooheon understand that what he was asking was simply impossible. Besides, Jooheon hadn’t told him why he wanted to sum up centuries of art and philosophy in a couple of days. "Anyway, why do you want to know? And what’s the rush?"
"I have a new project and I need to know art, philosophy... maybe a little history could help".
"What is the project about?" asked I.M.
"Pfff, well art, obviously. What else could it be about, Changkyungnnie?" replied Jooheon. "God, I thought you were not so slow anymore. Careful, Liv is here, you still have to make a good impression on her".
"YAH!" shouted I.M.
Liv just laughed and got off the couch.
"Well, I guess it’s going to be a long night for both of you," Liv said. "I’m going to go get something to eat. Do you want anything special?"
"But..." started I.M., but Jooheon cut it off.
"Anything’s fine, Liv. Thank you".
Once Liv had left the apartment, I.M. turned to Jooheon to claim his intrusion. However, he could not even say two words because Jooheon started talking before he could:
"Don’t you start whining at me," Jooheon said sharply. "First of all, I know it was you who changed the passcode on the digital lock of my, MY, studio, don’t think I’ve forgotten. Second, I’m partly responsible for the two of you getting back together back: it was me who put some sense into that hard head of yours and it was me who had the idea of leaving you alone after your presentation a few weeks ago. And we all know that’s when it got interesting, don’t we?"
Jooheon paused dramatically waiting for I.M.’s response, but the maknae blushed so much with that last comment that he forgot how to speak.
"That’s what I thought," Jooheon said with a mocking smile. "So, long story short, you owe me not one, but two. But the most important thing of all, which brings me to my third point, is that the project is not mine specifically, it is Minhyuk hyung’s".
"Minhyuk?" asked I.M. "Did he finally decide to do something with his works?"
"Yes, but he doesn’t have time to organize everything," Jooheon explained, "and right now, time is all I have left. Although if someone would give me back my studio..."
"Okay, hyung" I.M. jumped before Jooheon made a bigger drama about the passcode. Changkyung felt guilty enough about it and the last thing he wanted was to be constantly reminded of it. "I don’t know if I can help you much, though".
"Sure you do!" Jooheon assured him. "I still remember when you read Socrates before a concert. It was so strange to see... But anyway, we love you. So, I’m in your hands, tell me everything you know".
When Liv returned with food, she found Jooheon and I.M. in the living room with several books around them and, although Liv had arrived with food, neither rapper gestured to get up and eat. The only thing that told Liv that they both knew she was back, was a little greeting from I.M. Other than that, the two rappers were focused on their discussion/art class or philosophy or whatever I.M. was talking about.
Liv thought it was good for Jooheon to try to look for other hobbies and other activities with which to be distracted. Although I.M. hadn’t told her the whole story, Liv knew that Jooheon had been struggling with stress levels at work and hoped this would help him release some energy. Besides, it would give the two of them another subject to talk about...
"That’s ridiculous," Jooheon said. "What’s more, it’s so obvious it’s ridiculous".
...or not.
"Yes, well, hyung, try to put yourself in his shoes," I.M., explained, "at the time of Aristotle there was no one who had talked about the things he was explaining and the literature was not as developed as today. The definitions that today seem obvious, for them were new".
"Still," Jooheon continued. "It’s just that... look at that definition: 'the beginning is everything that is not preceded by anything but is followed by everything. I mean TELL ME SOMETHING I DON’T KNOW. HERE I WAS, THINKING THAT THE BEGINNING WAS AT THE END".
"Hyung, look..."
It’s going to be a really, really long night, Liv thought laughing at herself as she prepared the dinner plates and watched the endless discussion of the two rappers.
_________________________________
On Monday the following week, Julie thought for the first time ever about calling in sick. On Friday, she was told that she would be starting with the development and organization of Lee Minhyuk’s project today and that Lee Jooheon would be the customer’s spokesperson.
I don’t want to, thought Jules turning off the alarm. I don’t want toooooooo.
However, after throwing the tantrum of the week on her head, Julianne kicked the sheets and got out of bed. An hour later she was ready to leave, convinced that today would be a day like any other.
"But look at you!" Rei said as soon as Julianne walked into the office. "I love that dress, is it new? And that lipstick! Someone got pretty dressed up today," concluded her friend winking. "Tell me, Julie-ah, excited to work with an idol?"
"Calm down, Rei," said Julie. "The dress is not new, and the lipstick was bought by my mother a few days ago, that’s all".
"Mmmm, right" Rei said not very convinced. "And the fact that today comes a famous idol has nothing to do with your choices".
Julianne didn’t bother to contradict her, she didn’t want to continue that conversation, so she just went to her office and started working. She still had a couple of hours before she had to meet Jooheon. The previous Friday, her boss and Minhyuk agreed to a meeting for that Monday at 10:30 in the morning at the studio where Minhyuk had kept most of his paintings. The idea was to make the first survey of all the works available for exhibition and from there establish the concept, history, or aesthetic line to follow.
At 8:30, Julianne had finished all the administrative tasks she had pending and did not know what else to do to kill time. She asked Rei if she needed help with anything, but she told her she had everything under control. It was still too early to receive visitors and the few people in the gallery at that time of the morning were being looked after and guided by junior curators.
Having nothing to do, Julie decided to do some research on Lee Minhyuk. Perhaps she could find some of the singer’s works and see more or less what his aesthetic line was, like that, she would not arrive completely empty-handed to review the paintings. She tried to filter the web results in order to look up information only about Minhyuk and not the whole group, but after several minutes she realized that that would be impossible, as the activities of all the members of Monsta X were really interrelated and even if they had different agendas, they did not miss the opportunity to mention each other.
Julie hadn’t really followed Jooheon’s career after the end of reality where he debuted, so she didn’t know what kind of music or performances Monsta X had. However, she only needed to listen to a couple of tracks to recognize Jooheon’s influence on the band’s discography.
"You’ll see, Jules," Jooheon said as he hung from the rail. "One day, I will be on a stage and people will sing my songs".
"Would you get off at once?" Julie said worriedly. "If you keep hanging, you’re going to fall because your greasy hands and you can’t be famous if you break your face".
"Pffff, have you ever seen anyone break their whole face?" Jooheon asked, mocking Jules. "Besides, I’m already nine, I’m stronger and this game is a joke to me. Want to see?"
"No, no.... Jooheon-ah, go slow. Jooheon-ah!"
"Ta-da!" Jooheon shouted as he landed safely on the floor after jumping down from the railings. "See, it’s nothing, Jules. Don’t worry... I know you can’t live without me but calm down and... AH!" shouted Jooheon when Jules hit him in the arm. "Why was that?!"
Jules didn’t answer. She just stared Jooheon in the face before turning to go home. She was also nine years old, but she didn’t do so many stupid things. Pfff, boys.
"Julie-ah," Jooheon said behind her back.
"Julie-ah"
"Julie-ah!" Rei’s call pulled Julianne out of her memory. God, what was that about?
"Ah? I’m sorry, Rei," Julie said. "Do you need anything?"
"Are you okay? You were like in another world".
"I’m fine, sorry," Julianne repeated. "Tell me, what’s going on?"
"Ah, right. You have visitors" Rei reported. "Lee Jooheon is here".
"What?!" Julie jumped out of her seat. "But... we were to meet in the studio in an hour".
"Mmmm, yeah, well, he’s here. He’s in the main hall, looking at some paintings from the exhibition," Rei said. "Should I tell him to come in?"
"No" answered Julianne almost immediately. "I’m going out. I’m with him in five minutes. Thank you, Rei".
Julie took a couple of deep breaths and shut down her computer’s search engine. He was glad that Rei had not seen the screen, it would have been difficult to explain why Julianne was watching music videos during working hours.
When Julie arrived at the main hall, she saw that Jooheon was indeed there. She took a deep breath once more and walked towards him.
"Jooheon-ssi" called him.
"Ah, Jules" Jooheon greeted her as he turned following her voice. "Wow, you look great. How are you?"
"I’m fine," replied Julianne with a professional smile. "I thought we’d meet at Minhyuk’s studio in an hour. Did anything happen?"
"Ah, no, no, not at all" Jooheon reassured her. "I just thought it would be a good idea to come and pick you up and go together. Minhyuk’s studio is hard to find and it’s easy to get lost in that area".
Confusing streets? Really? That’s what a GPS is for, Julianne thought annoyed for no apparent reason.
"I appreciate the gesture, Jooheon-ssi" Julie began, "but I think it would be better to go in separate cars. I have other commitments today and I don’t want to be a bother".
"No bother, Jules," Jooheon said. "I would have no problem being your personal driver for a day," explained the rapper, "but if you feel more comfortable like that, we can go in separate cars, just make sure you follow me. The streets are really tricky in that neighborhood, and you could end up driving in circles. Believe me, it happened to me once".
"Okay, Jooheon-ssi" replied Julie. "I don’t know how tricky a street can be, especially with a GPS, but I understand".
"Great," Jooheon said with a smile. "I’ll wait for you, then. If we leave now, we arrive just in time".
Julie saw the time on her watch and realized that Jooheon was right. It was 9:45 in the morning and the journey would take about 40 minutes, depending on traffic, so Julianne went quickly to her office to pick up her bag and went out with the rapper to the gallery parking lot.
The traffic was not very heavy, so they soon reached the residential area where the building where Minhyuk rented his studio was. All along the way, Julie stayed less than a car away from Jooheon’s vehicle, however, as she exited the main road and entered the adjacent streets, Julie got distracted at a stop sign and when she saw the road again she had about four cars between her and Jooheon.
Julianne then decided to turn on the GPS and follow the system’s instructions, but soon realized that Jooheon was right: the area was a maze. It was probably one of those neighborhoods that were "remodeled" through urban programs; the problem was that the maps had not been updated in navigation systems, so the names of streets and establishments in the system did not match at all with what Julie had in front of her. Se even ended up a couple of times on dead ends!
After about ten minutes of wandering around, Julie realized her cell phone was vibrating. The incoming number was unknown, so she decided to ignore it until the call was cut off, but immediately afterward, it rang again. This happened two more times until Julianne relented and took the call:
"Hello?"
"Jules! You finally answer," said Jooheon’s voice on the other side of the line. "Where are you? Are you lost?"
Julie hesitated whether to answer or not. Her pride was a little hurt and she didn’t want to accept that she was indeed lost.
"I’m almost there. Give me five minutes".
"Jules, tell me where you are" Jooheon said. "I told you these streets were complicated. Tell me what you see and I’ll go to you".
"You don’t have to do that, Jooheon-ssi. I’m almost there, I’m close, I’ll see you there" and with that Julianne cut the call. Part of her regretted it because she had no idea where she was. But her rational side made her calm down and park the car on the side of the street to check the map on her phone.
Julie confirmed what she already knew: the streets on the map did not correspond to the new layout of this area of the city. However, there were sections that were the same and Julie had a memory good enough to remember where she had already been.
She was about to decipher the route she had to follow when some knocks on her window made her jump on her seat out of fright. As she turned her head, she saw Jooheon smiling on the other side.
"What are you doing here?" Julie asked lowering the window.
"Well, since you didn’t want to tell me where you went, I called the owner of the restaurant on the corner and asked her to tell me if she saw a car like yours running around all over the place," Jooheon explained. "The guys and I order a lot from that restaurant when we’re in Minhyuk’s or Shownu’s studio. But anyway, she told me you were here".
Jooheon said it like it wasn’t a big deal, and it wasn’t, but Julianne was upset. She knew that what really bothered her was the fact that Jooheon was right, the fact that she got lost in the middle of the city, and the fact that Jooheon had to come looking for her like a little girl. Julianne was upset because she was embarrassed, although she knew she was being childish and that there was nothing to feel embarrassed for, but that only made her feel even more upset.
Within seconds, Julie’s head was about to explode, so she just took a deep breath waiting for Jooheon to get away from the car window. Bad idea. As she was getting air, Julie smelled the cologne that Jooheon was wearing. It’s the same as always, she thought, but before her head developed on that thought, she shook her head and set out to start the car’s engine.
"Well, anyway, now I know where the studio is," Julie told Jooheon as she held the steering wheel. "You don’t have to guide me anymore".
Although Julianne was trying to keep a neutral face, she was failing, and Jooheon was two seconds away from bursting with laughter. From a young age, Julie had the knack of wrinkling her nose whenever she felt embarrassed, and that was just what she was doing at the time. Jooheon endured the laughter but could not help the half-smile on his face as he recognized his friend’s gesture.
"Don’t worry, Jules, it wouldn’t be the first time. Don’t think I forgot the time of the maze" the rapper replied as his smile widened.
"Are you still not over it?" Julie said in a bit of a huff.
"How could I? Your nails left scratches and marks along my arm!" Jooheon jokingly told him. "I helped you out and you thanked me like that".
"Yah!" Julie cut him off. "Don’t be a liar, you scratched yourself when you fell trying to get on the bus with your eyes closed. I never took your arm".
"Yes, well, I’m sure my mother remembers a certain new shirt that on the first day had the collar completely stretched".
"In any case" interrupted Julie, "see you there".
"I’ll be right behind you," Jooheon said with a wink.
The rapper walked away from Julie’s car and headed to his. In the back of his mind, Jooheon hoped that Jules would get lost again just to see her frustrated face; however, in a matter of ten minutes, they were both parked on the street of Minhyuk’s studio.
Both entered the building and went up to the third floor, where was the place rented by the singer. Apparently, Minhyuk had been able to arrive after all, for when they arrived at the apartment, they found the door open, and inside was Minhyuk circling everywhere.
"Hyung" Jooheon greeted.
"Ah, hello, Jooheon-ah" Minhyuk greeted him. "Julie-ssi, you are just in time".
"Minhyuk-ssi, I see you were able to join us," Julianne said.
"Yes and no," Minhyuk replied with an apologetic expression. "I had a commitment on the area that ended earlier than expected and I decided to come here, but in... 10 minutes, more or less, my manager will pick me up. I just came to try to explain a little the disaster you see".
"Hyung, this is awesome," Jooheon told him. "I didn’t know you had done so many things".
"Yes, well, it’s therapeutic," continued Minhyuk. "Well, you see, I use this place more as storage than as an apartment. There are three bedrooms, plus the living room and kitchen, but only one of the rooms is furnished. Basically, the works are sorted by technique and in turn by color palettes that..."
Minhyuk continued to speak, but Jooheon stopped paying attention to what he was saying and set his sights on the amount of neatly ordered canvas in the room. Only there could be about 30 or 40 paintings of different sizes, colors, themes... it was impressive. The more works he saw the more excited Jooheon was for his friend. It was time for him to realize how great he was.
"Anyway, that would be it" concluded Minhyuk. "I hope it’s not too much information at once".
"No problem," answered Julianne. "This is my specialty, after all. In fact, it’s a very good organizational system and I think it can serve us well. I assure you that I will have the greatest care to leave everything as close as you have it now".
"Thank you" sighed Minhyuk more relaxed. "Well, I leave you, I have to run. In case you must ask me any questions personally, here’s my number" continued the singer handing a business card to Julianne, "but Jooheon knows me well enough to make decisions for me, so just tell him".
"Relax, hyung," Jooheon told him as he accompanied him (pushed him) to the exit. "See you later in the dorm".
Minhyuk took one last look at Jooheon and then went down to the first floor to go to his next meeting. Jooheon re-entered the apartment and saw that Jules was walking among the paintings trying to see what else was there.
"Well, where do we start?" Jooheon asked.
"Well... the first thing is to analyze each work separately. I see that some have a paper with what looks like a title, but that’s not true in every case. We have to decide on a generic naming system that allows us to identify the works by technique, color palette, or general theme. Later, we can use it to group the pieces according to different criteria and according to the concept of the exhibition" explained Julianne. "We also have to take photographs of each work to be able to assemble a digital catalog that would allow us to make decisions without having to be manipulating each piece without need. I’m going to go to the car to get the camera from the gallery. Meanwhile, go counting the paintings to get an idea of how many pieces are here in general".
Julianne left the apartment for her car before Jooheon could respond. Although it wasn’t like Jooheon had anything to say. The rapper had no idea what he was doing there. In his head, the logistics of this exhibition were not going to be complicated, but, again, Jooheon had no idea how many paintings Minhyuk had made over the years. If he had gone there alone, he would not have known what to do, but Jules knew in two seconds and that filled Jooheon with tranquility and admiration... And maybe a little pride. After all, Jooheon always knew that Jules was going to be excellent at whatever he set out to do.
Well, Jooheon-ah, let’s count, he thought to himself.
As Jooheon recounted the paintings, Julie got into her car and opened the back door to pull out the photographic equipment that would help her make the catalog. As she checked it, something vibrated in the front seat and Julie noticed that she had left her cell phone in the car. Luckily it was just a message from Rei telling her that the prints for the current exhibition brochures had arrived. Julie answered and when she was going to block her cell again, a notification caught her attention: 4 missed calls from an unknown number. Julie knew the number was Jooheon’s, but how did the rapper know what number to call if she had never given it to him?
Julie had not realized that, in fact, she never gave her personal number to either Jooheon or Minhyuk. They had the gallery contact, so how the fuck did he call her?
Julie went back up to the apartment with that question in her head, so when she walked in, that was the first thing she said to the rapper:
"Jooheon-ssi, how did you get my cellphone number?" inquired Julie.
"Ah?" asked Jooheon distracted with some paintings. "Ahhhhh, that. Well, since I didn’t see you anywhere, I called Director Kim and asked him".
Sure, it makes sense, Julie thought. They probably exchanged numbers when signing the contract.
"Yah, Jules, don’t tell me you realize that until now," Jooheon teased her. "Don’t tell me you still get distracted around me. I still blush easy, you know?"
"You never blushed easy," Julie said in a whisper as she rolled her eyes and put the camera on the kitchen table.
"With you I always did," Jooheon replied. That remark upset Julie a little, she thought she had spoken low enough so Jooheon wouldn’t hear her, but apparently, she was wrong.
Indeed, Jooheon had heard it, but he did not know where that answer had come from. Just... He just said it, as in automatic, and now Jooheon was worried about his comment having made Julianne uncomfortable. So, the rapper chose to act as if nothing had happened and go ahead with what they had to do today.
"Well, in the living room there are a total of 37 pieces, I’ll check the rooms and I’ll tell you the total," Jooheon reported.
"Okay, when you’re done, we start taking the pictures," Jules continued without looking at the rapper.
Yah, Jooheon-ah, are you an idiot or what?, the rapper reproached himself in his mind.
You had to have less than one functional neuron to not realize that Jules was... uncomfortable, cautious, around him. Jooheon didn’t take it personally, Jules had always been a little shy and it had been years since they last met and talked, so the curator could perfectly feel that she no longer knew him. Jooheon was willing to prove to her that their friendship still existed, or could exist, but comments like that were not going to gain him anything.
Jooheon-ah, focus, he thought. It’s easy. First, don’t say any more stupid things, second, focus on the paintings, hyung deserves it.

_____________________________________________
You sat on your bed as your brother paced back and forth in front of you. You weren’t sure what was going on, but you had a feeling it was in your best interest to stay quiet.
“I was gone for a bit and you already-“ Hoseok was interrupted by Jooheon walking in.
“Meeting,” he told your brother before disappearing again.
“We’re talking after this.” Hoseok pointed at you before turning and leaving too, finally allowing you to sigh. He really didn’t need to be that protective, you were an adult for fuck’s sake.
Fetching your phone, you laid down as you scrolled down your instagram feed while you waited for their meeting to be over, that was the only distraction you could think of. Now that Hoseok was back, the next thing was to take care of the Chinese side of the deal as fast as possible. Both Hoseok and Hyungwon couldn’t go on missions yet, and you could tell it disturbed the balance of the gang, but the longer they dragged it the bigger an issue it became so they didn’t have much choice.
You wanted to stay up and wait till Hoseok finished the meeting so you could come clean about what he saw earlier and talk to him once and for all about what’s been going on with Changkyun, but your eyelids had other plans for you. No matter how hard you tried to keep them open, you couldn’t. After a few more minutes of resisting, you finally gave up and dived into dreamland.
-------------------------
“What do you mean, university?” You stared at Hyungwon wide eyed.
“What, you think I’m too stupid for a degree or something?” He shot you a glare, “I’ll have you know I double majored.” He continued, sipping his starbucks iced coffee.
“No, I’m just, I don’t know… what did you study?” You asked, now intrigued.
“We both studied econ and communication,” Jooheon answered instead, surprising you. You put down your poke bowl, now shook.
“You guys went to university together?” Jooheon nodded, smiling brightly. “Who else here went to college?” You looked around, eyes going even wider when you realized everyone held their hands up. “The fuck? What did you major in?”
“I did psychology” Minhyuk answered first, holding a peace sign up. Funny how just a month ago you thought he was a psycho (which he most likely was), what are the odds?
“Computer science,” Kihyun joined in, playing a game on his phone. At least that one made some sense.
“Business and law” Shownu added, you already knew that though.
“Mechanical engineering” Changkyun continued, your jaw dropped.
There was a moment of silence as you just stared at everyone. How did you not know about this before? You seriously thought only your brother and Shownu had degrees, since they met because of that. Hoseok never mentioned anyone else.
“She really be thinking we dumb, huh?” Kihyun broke the silence, sending everyone into a laughing fit. You tried to explain that it wasn’t like that, but they just kept teasing you about it. You just resumed eating, not sure what to reply to them. It was a Thursday morning and even though you should’ve been at work, you were enjoying a peaceful lunch with everyone at the gym. Well, as peaceful as it could get.
Despite how normal everything seemed right now, you couldn’t help but feel some type of way about how things turned out with Changkyun. The day after the kiss, you planned to sit down with him and lay all your cards down no matter what he thought. After that, you planned to do the same with your brother.
Im Changkyun, I like you.
That’s the summary of what you wanted to say, but the moment you met him by the gym showers, he acted like the previous night never happened. Did it bring your self-esteem down a notch? Yes. Were you about to play the same game he was playing and forget about being an adult? Yes, absolutely, you’ve already been playing it for a few weeks, in fact.
Since things didn’t go quite as planned, you tried to avoid your brother as much as possible. You couldn’t tell him now that things got even more complicated with Changkyun, and you knew that if you ended up alone with him, it will be the first thing he’d bring up.
So for now, you clung to each and every member like your life depended on it.
Feeling your phone vibrate in your pocket, you fished it out, trying not to touch it with your oily fingers that were holding your bowl just moments ago, and checked the email notification you got.
Invitation to the Annual Seoul Veterinary Meeting
You felt as if someone poured a bucket of ice on you right there and then, and you’d know how that felt since you did the ice bucket challenge a couple of years ago.
“Didn’t you miss that meeting a few weeks ago when that Luna girl came to see you?” Changkyun asked, the email visible to him from where he sat beside you. You kept silent, not knowing what to say or where to start.
“Y/n?” He frowned, sensing something strange.
“Kyun, I think you were right…” You met his gaze with a hurt one. “Luna stabbed me in the back.”
-----------------
“So let me get this straight,” Your brother stared at Hyungwon who came back from his latest spying mission. He went MIA for three days so you started to worry something happened to him because of you, but he came back without a scratch. You were relieved.
“You’re telling me that my baby sister is not only mistaken for an MX member, but she’s also wanted by two Chinese gangs who are in a cold war with each other?” Hoseok’s face showed so many emotions you didn’t know which one to focus on. Worry? Anger? Confusion? Not a clue.
“Basically.” Hyungwon nodded, unbuttoning his suit jacket.
“Wonho, don’t worry, I’ll deal with this.” Shownu walked up to him, patting his shoulder in an attempt to calm him down a bit.
Instead of calming down, Hoseok flipped his whole desk, making you jump in your spot, and walked out of the office without another word. Minhyuk followed after him silently. Knowing your brother, he was probably on his way to destroy the punching bags in the gym.
“I’m not sure I understand everything. How did you even know all this?” Your voice came out much softer than you intended, but you guessed everyone heard you since they all looked at you, so you didn’t bother to say it again.
“Thanks to your friend,” Hyungwon walked to the fridge and opened a can of beer, sighing. “At first, we thought the gang that sent that guy to your apartment was the only one after you because they knew you were Wonho’s sister and they might have thought he hid the intel with you or something.” He started after taking a sip of the beer.
“But then after looking into that Luna girl, it turned out she got paid by another gang to lure you out and away from us. Thanks to Changkyun and Minhyuk, that didn’t happen, but she still wouldn’t give up, so I had to take care of her.” He fixed his gaze on you to make sure you understood what he meant.
“You killed her!?” You were aware she sold you for a few pennies, but you didn’t exactly want her dead!
“Damn, no, Who do you take me for? I just paid her more, scared her a bit and made sure she moved to another city.” Hyungwon’s serious demeanor disappeared for a moment. You were relieved to know she was okay, though.
“We don’t usually deal with the Chinese mafia so it took me a while to create connections on that side, but the moment I got a solid source I found out those two new families have been rivals for a couple of years now, and their latest competition is to get a huge business deal with the guy who commissioned us.” He finished, his seemingly nonchalant face prevented you from freaking out.
“What better way to get a deal with him than give him what he wanted before we did, right? Saves him money, gets them on his good side…” Kihyun talked to no one in particular.
“One of them probably tipped the US army, too, to make sure Wonho stayed out of their way. Amateur move” Jooheon joined from his own desk.
“So, what now?” You asked, looking at the leader who hasn’t said anything yet. Shownu’s phone dinged indicating a new text. He looked down with a frown, taking a few seconds to reply to you.
“Now, we hit two birds with one stone.”

Assuage: Chapter 21
Yoongi x Reader
Genre: ABO (Alpha/Beta/Omega) dynamics, angst, fluff, smut, enemies to lovers
Warnings: Brief mention of abuse.
Tumblr media
When Yoongi woke up the next morning, the first thing that he realized was that you were already awake and scenting him with your nose pressed against his scent gland.
“Baby?” He called out questioningly and you just hummed in reply. “You ok?”
“I can’t just scent you?” You murmured.
“Of course you can, it just seemed a little random,” he chuckled deeply. “And you usually ask first.”
“I missed you a lot, even though it was only a day,” you confessed as you pulled your nose away and looked up at him. “You didn’t smell like me anymore and that makes my Omega uncomfortable.”
“Well, scent away,” Yoongi said as he lifted his neck to expose his neck and you dove back in, taking your time as you dragged your nose along his skin.
“You’re gonna have to go and talk to my brother,” you whispered and Yoongi just sighed heavily.
“Do I really have to?” He huffed. “He almost killed me, Y/N-ah.”
“Joon could never kill anyone, unless provoked,” you told him as you sat up and looked down at him. “And yes, you have to go talk to him since he technically cast you out of the pack but all you have to do is tell him exactly what you told me last night.”
“And he’ll let it go?”
“My brother can be a dick but he can also be pretty understanding so I think so,” you nodded. “And even if he doesn’t, I’ll have your back.”
“Fuck, fine,” Yoongi relented and you leaned down to press a kiss to his lips.
After the two of you showered, got dressed, and ate, you led him across the territory to the Head Hall and up the stairs to the second floor where Namjoon’s office was located.
“I see everything worked out between you two,” Taehyung smirked when he saw the two of you walking up to his desk, hand in hand.
“Don’t be so smug about it,” you rolled your eyes.
“I’m guessing that you’re here to speak to Joon hyung,” Taehyung guessed, and you and Yoongi both nodded in confirmation. “Well, lucky for you guys: he just got out of a war strategy meeting with Hobi hyung and he looked pretty pissed off.”
“Gee, thanks Taehyung,” Yoongi grumbled, making Taehyung laugh out loud.
“He’s free right now, so go ahead in,” Taehyung said as he waved towards the door of Namjoon’s office.
“Uh, give me a sec,” you told Yoongi and he nodded before pressing a kiss to your cheek and walking over to wait in front of the office door.
“What’s up?” Taehyung wondered as he looked at you.
“I just, uh, wanted to say thank you,” you said. “For figuring out that something was amiss and going to find Yoongi.”
“You don’t have to thank me for that,” Taehyung shrugged with a smile. “It was the right thing to do. He makes you so happy Y/N-ah, and I wasn’t going to let Seo-hyun fuck that up for you.”
“You know, I think Joon and I are very lucky that Mom and Dad fought to keep you,” you told him, which made him grin widely. “Joon and I would be a pair of bumbling idiots without you.”
“Mom said you two would need me,” Taehyung puffed his chest out proudly. “I love you Y/N-ah.”
“I love you more Tae,” you cooed, leaning over his desk and gently kissing his cheek before pulling back. “Now wish us luck.”
“Good luck,” he smirked knowingly and you turned around and walked over to the door, joining Yoongi who had been patiently waiting.
“Here goes nothing,” you sighed as you reached up and knocked on the door three times.
“Come in,” Namjoon’s muffled voice called out and you opened the door, poking your head inside.
“You free?” You asked and he nodded his head. You then stepped inside, pulling Yoongi in behind you as well before shutting the door.
“Ok, now before you start yelling,” you began before Namjoon even had the chance to start talking. “Let me explain.”
“I’m not gonna yell Y/N-ah,” Namjoon chuckled as he sat back in his desk chair and your eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“You’re...not?”
“Nope,” he replied. “Taehyung came and explained everything to me yesterday. He woke the girls up from their naps and pissed Hyo off in the process, but he told me nonetheless.”
“Of course he did,” you laughed in disbelief.
“Yoongi, I’d like to apologize,” Namjoon said as he looked over at Yoongi. “I didn’t allow you the opportunity to explain yourself and for that, I was wrong.”
“It’s ok,” Yoongi shrugged. “I know that as Pack Alpha, everyone’s safety is your main priority so I don’t blame you.”
“It’s also a part of my job as Pack Alpha to trust my pack members, just as they trust me to be able to lead you all,” Namjoon explained. “So, I would like to invite you, formally, to become a permanent member of this pack.”
“I’d love to,” Yoongi grinned widely.
“Great,” Namjoon smiled.
“Congratulations baby!” You exclaimed, leaning over and kissing him firmly. “Tae’s gonna flip!”
“He’s probably listening at the door so he already knows,” Namjoon said.
“I resent that!” You heard Taehyung scream through the door, which made all three of you laugh.
“Um, I wanted to ask you something,” Yoongi said as he looked at Namjoon. “Is the fight still on?”
“Yes, it is,” Namjoon sighed. “We have five days until Seo-hyun said that he was going to be back.”
“I’d like to fight with you all,” Yoongi announced, causing both your and Namjoon’s eyes to widen.
“What?” You questioned.
“Yoongi, you don’t have to do that,” Namjoon told him.
“Yeah, you don’t,” you agreed.
“Why wouldn’t I?” Yoongi asked.
“For one thing, you’ve never fought in a war from what Taehyung told me last night,” Namjoon pointed out. “And for two, you’d be fighting against your former pack. I know that they treated you terribly but it still will probably be hard for you.”
“That might be true but this is my pack now,” Yoongi stated firmly. “And I want to fight to protect it.” A few seconds of silence passed over the room then before Namjoon spoke up again.
“Alright, fine,” Namjoon relented. “We’ll have to get you in training right away.”
“Alright,” Yoongi nodded before turning to look at you. “Don’t be mad at me please.”
“I’m not,” you assured him. “But we can talk more about it later.”
“I love you,” Yoongi cooed and you smiled at him.
“I love you too,” you replied.
..........................................................
Later that night, after going to training with Namjoon, Hobi, Jungkook, and some other Alphas and Omegas, Yoongi was out amongst the trees at the edge of the territory. After the (albeit shirt) amount of time that the two of you were apart, you still weren’t the biggest fan of being away from him so he had decided to chop some more wood for your place before meeting you back there.
As he was doing so though, he was shocked when he heard rustling from beyond a cluster of trees.
“Who’s there?” He called out, pausing in order to listen better. When he didn’t receive an answer, he gripped onto the handle of the ax that he was holding tighter.
“I’m Prime asshole, so think about your next steps very carefully,” Yoongi warned and a shadowy figure stepped out from behind a tree and when they stepped closer, Yoongi couldn’t believe his eyes.
“Yeah well, tell me something that I don’t know,” the man laughed and Yoongi just gaped at him in disbelief.
“Kihyun?” He called as the Alpha walked closer to him. “What the fuck are you doing here?”
“Well, I was hoping to receive a better greeting than that from one of my closest friends,” Kihyun joked and Yoongi just laughed before launching himself at Kihyun, hugging him tightly.
“What are you doing here?” Yoongi repeated as he pulled away from the hug. “You would’ve been detained or killed if anyone else caught you.”
“I know but I had to come and see you,” Kihyun replied. “After Seo-hyun came back and announced that you were still alive, I had to see it for myself.”
“That was really dangerous and stupid of you Kihyun,” Yoongi told him.
“I’ve spent the last six months thinking that you were dead,” Kihyun shot back. “You can’t blame me.”
“Yeah well,” Yoongi shrugged. “How have you been though? Everyone been treating you ok?”
“I’m fine hyung,” Kihyun nodded. “I see that you’re ok too.”
“Yeah, the Kim Pack took me in,” Yoongi said.
“I hope that doesn’t mean that you plan on fighting with them in a few days.”
“Actually, it does.”
“Why would you do that?” Kihyun wondered. “You can’t fight against your pack.”
“They’re my old pack and if you remember correctly, they left me for dead,” Yoongi pointed out. “This is my new pack and I am going to fight to protect it from Seo-hyun because I don’t want him doing the same thing to them that he did to our pack.”
“Seo-hyun just wants us to be strong,” Seo-hyun tried to say.
“And he has to abuse people and try to take over other packs in order to do that?” Yoongi demanded to know. “Kihyun, I love you. You’re the person that kept me sane all of those years after my parents died and I’ll always appreciate you for it, but you can’t seriously believe that what Seo-hyun is doing is right.”
“....I didn’t come here to argue with you hyung,” Kihyun finally said after a few moments of silence. “I just wanted to come and see you.”
“Despite everything, I am happy to see you kid,” Yoongi smiled gently. “Even if it was dumb.”
“I love you hyung,” Kihyun said before hugging Yoongi again.
“I love you too,” Yoongi responded before letting go of Kihyun. “Be safe.” Kihyun nodded and just as quick as he had appeared, Yoongi watched as he disappeared back into the trees.

queen’s whore — lee hoseok/wonho
a/n: sorry to anyone named adrian, i just needed a name lol
a/n: hi welcome back to me getting so into a concept and writing out a complex story instead of just writing something sexual for this nsfw blog 😔✌️ i promise the next one will actually be horny
word count: 3.1k
content: only the last section is nsfw and it’s pretty soft, peasant!wonho, queen!fem!reader, kiki and kyun are in this too and honestly kyun in this is my icon, wonho is not treated well by the people so don’t read if that’s uncomfortable for you, like he mentions being called a whore but nobody directly says it to him in what’s written, riding le dick, aftercare i guess??? it’s vv soft at the end, the king is a sexist dick and i literally just looked up royal baby names and his is what came up so sorry to anyone named adrian
summary: hoseok, your secret lover, asks to become your consort so he’s not just seen as some peasant trying to get power by having an affair with the queen. kihyun, a royal advisor, and changkyun, a war strategist, help you do so against a king who is a really, really big asshole.
Tumblr media
“oh my darling hoseok, why are you here so suddenly?” you mumble, allowing him into your chambers despite the absurd time. he trudges in, seemingly something disturbing his peace of mind, settling down on the bed, lying back with a miserable expression on his face that haunts your heart. it makes you want to do nothing more than absolve him of all this pain.
his eyes flutter close as he breathes in, taking in your words as if they are the only comfort he has left in the world, “i love you, you know.”
his bluntness startles you, “i do know, hoseok, i love you too.”
“no you do not understand, i really, really love you, i—” he stops, breaking down suddenly. Your heart shatters when he chuckles cathartically, covering his face with his arm out of embarrassment as he cries, “why do they have to say such cruel words? they say i’m fucking the queen so surely i must be trying to take advantage of her status or raise mine, but i am really not! i’m not just your whore!” he shouts, before looking over at you and remembering the situation. he, a common peasant, just cursed in front of you, the queen. Even if you did love him, he so desperately wished to go back and stop himself, “I apologize, my queen, for my words, i— please forgive me for tonight.”
“dear, please do not apologize tonight. you have every reason to be acting irrational right now,” you reach out to grab his hand, and he holds back with every last ounce of strength in his body, “the things people have said about you since the beginning of rumors concerning our… affair, have been vile and invasive. I wish that I could stop them, but I can only do so much without confirming them more. we both know my husband would not appreciate that.”
your husband. the king. not an ounce of love was shared between you two, and yet, even though he expected you to be fine with his constant affairs with other women, he would be livid if he knew you had a lover of your own. for that reason, the rumors concerning hoseok never made it to the king, because the people knew you would probably be in for hell. you were definitely the more well liked out of the two, and that meant that hoseok, a little nobody from a small fishing village in the kingdom, got the brunt of it, “does his opinion have… to matter so much?”
“hoseok...” you murmur with a warning tone, “sweetheart, i… i do not think…. it’s wise to talk about my husband in such a way—”
“you don’t love him! you sleep in separate rooms for god’s sake!” he shouts in a hushed tone, “make me your consort. i am not asking for political power, but i am sick of being called a whore.”
“and you expect me to take the brunt of my husband’s anger?”
“my queen, and more importantly, my love, please don’t imply such a thing. you have the support of the people, and many of your husband’s advisors would love to see him—” he says, and you place a finger over his lips.
“you speak far too loudly for someone trying to convince me to commit a crime.”
“i never said you had to kill him.”
“you were going to.”
“no i was not... because…” he takes a breath in, “i know you think he’ll have your head, but with the way the kingdom views you, and especially how the people view him, he would be a fool to lay a finger on you.”
silence fills the room, and hoseok wants to take it all back. it’s always felt like every time he opened his mouth to speak, nothing good would come of it. he sits up, but stays on the bed as you look away from him, “hoseok…”
he doesn’t answer when you call out his name, even though he knows he should. frankly, he should be on his knees in your presence, but in this room only he felt like you could be equals; he’s once again reminded that you are not, “my queen, i know what i’m asking of you is far too much, i know i’m overstepping and asking you to step into deadly dangerous territory, but… i’m so tired of being viewed like i’m using you, and i’m tired of the things they call me. i’m tired of being nothing to you outside these walls.”
“my dear,” you breathe, speechless at his words. it would be fatal to make one wrong move, but… would it be worth it?
“i’m not going to attempt to guilt trip you, you deserve better than that. if you don’t feel safe doing this, or just simply don’t wish to, i will accept that. and my love will be unwavering no matter what,” he raises your hand to his lips to kiss your knuckles, falling to his knees, and resting his forehead against your thigh, “just, please think about me too when you make that decision.”
“kihyun,” you murmur, and he perks up hearing your voice as you reach out your hand for him to take, “come here, please. i require you for something.”
“of course, your highness,” he nods softly, letting you lead him to somewhere more quiet. kihyun was a royal advisor, but he was also a good friend to have on your side. he was too smart for you to allow to become an enemy, but he had a good heart. it didn’t take much effort from your husband to get kihyun to… not be fond of him, to put it mildly, “what is the matter?”
“i… i have a favor to ask,” you gulp, the full weight of what you were going to do hitting you hard in that moment, but you push through it. hoseok needed this, “have you heard the rumors about me?”
he bites his lip, but nods, “i— yes, your highness. my lips are sealed if you wish to speak about them.”
“they… are true. and i wish to make him my consort, but…”
“you’re worried about the king’s reaction to knowing you have… a lover,” he finishes the thought for you, and you’re both left to silence, until he speaks up with a chuckle, “forgive me, but you’re in a rough situation, my queen.”
“it’s… it’s not me who’s had to take the worst of it,” you shake your head, “i need to do this, kihyun.”
“i know you do. so tell me what you need me to be specifically, and i will do my best to be exactly that—” kihyun says, before getting interrupted.
“the king must understand the backlash he’ll get from punishing the queen, right?” you hear a voice say, cutting kihyun off.
your heart stops.
it’s all over isn’t it? the king found out about it before you even got the chance to try. you failed hoseok.
“i could attempt to help?” the voice adds on. you turn to see the face that the voice belongs to, and you breathe out a sigh of relief.
“changkyun,” you whisper, a hand over your heart, “you scared me.” *changkyun*. he was a war strategist that worked very closely with your father and now your husband, despite being a rather young strategist when your father was still on the throne. though he runs in the big political leagues, you trusted that kid with your life.
“i apologize, your highness, i seem to have that effect,” he winks, “anyway, i am sure we could convince the king to let it slide and allow the queen to appoint her mystery lover as a consort.”
though changkyun always seems to speak nonsense, his nonsense is giving you too much hope right now that you have to consciously hold yourself together and keep your expectations realistic, “tell me how, changkyun.”
“we could threaten to reveal information that, to be blunt, would ruin the king,” changkyun smirks, “i have been waiting for the chance to screw him over for years.”
“what information do you have?” kihyun speaks up, “and, no matter what it is, you know you’re painting a target on your back if you do this, right?”
changkyun, suddenly somber, nods, “of course i know that this would make me a target for the king, but… i owe it to you, your highness. you’re the reason i am alive. i live to serve you, not the crown. and.. do you think exposing to the kingdom that the king wants to invade our northern allies because they wouldn’t give him their princess to fuck would work? let’s just say, the king is one incredibly unpleasant man.”
you glance over at kihyun, who is in turn, looking over at you, and you mumble, “what do you say we… pay a visit to my husband, just the four of us?” you raise an eyebrow at kihyun, and he just wants to laugh at the obvious death sentence.
“of course, my queen. let’s meet back here after dinner and say hello to him then.”
“my king,” kihyun says, entering first. he hears the disgruntled groan of the king before even daring to look up. he keeps his head down.
“what is it, yoo? this better be important,” he spits, and kihyun does his best to keep his cool. now that he’s really thinking about it, maybe they should have… not bothered the king during his personal time.
“the queen wishes to speak with you, your highness,” he mutters, hearing the scoff from the king, he can tell the attention is soon off of him because he hears your footsteps behind him.
“good evening, adrian,” your voice is cold and unwavering as you speak to the king, much different than the kindness and softness in your demeanor when you spoke to others. the difference is night and day.
“for what reason are you in my chambers this evening, y/n? i doubt you’re here for romance,” he chuckles half-heartedly, but you keep your glare pointed at him.
“you would be correct. i’m here to say i… i am appointing a consort.”
he laughs, actually bursts out into a fit of laughter, when you say that, “really?! you?! i hate to tell you, my wife, but that will not be happening.”
“actually, it will be,” kihyun stands up after kneeling, and meeting the king’s startled gaze, “she came here for a reason, and we’re not leaving until we do what we came to do.”
“who is this consort?!” the king doesn’t even spare kihyun more than a glance after he gathers himself together, “i feel bad for the poor thing, he’ll be dead before you even get the chance to do anything for him.”
the thought lingers in your head. that is definitely a possibility. hoseok was definitely physically strong, but there was a good chance he wouldn’t make it out of this alive. you have to remind yourself that this is what hoseok wanted, that he is fully aware of the danger, and that you’re doing this for him. you pull yourself back together, feeling kihyun’s hand on your shoulder, being a comforting and supporting presence, “you will allow it, adrian, i assure you that it’s in your best interest to let this happen.”
“and why is that?!” he shouts, making you flinch a bit, but you’re saved when changkyun comes in. it’s now three against one, and changkyun raises a piece of paper, with his signature smirk in place.
“take a look,” he murmurs, his voice deep and soft. it would be soothing if it wasn’t filling you with the same confident energy that he always has. it’s infectious, in the best way, “i’m sure the people would love to know how you tried to steal the princess of another kingdom away. that’s some real comic book supervillain stuff, my king.”
“and remember, public opinion heavily favors your wife, my king. sure, they’re terrified of you, but i doubt that is enough to stop them from rising up. we wouldn’t want a coup, would we?” kihyun seems to share the same sentiment, his usually respectful and reverent demeanor suddenly disappearing, “so how about settling this here and now?”
“hello, and good morning, my people. i hope you are managing well during these hard times. please know i am doing my absolute best to serve you all well and take care of each and every one of you. your needs are incredibly important to me and i wish i could be doing more to make your lives easier. i promise to do everything in my power to help you. please hold me to that if you feel i am lacking.
“today, i am here to confess and to ask that you hear me out. for over a year now, you may have heard rumors about affairs my husband and i have had. i am here to tell you, that at least on my end, the rumors hold true. i have… fallen for someone else. when my husband and i talked this over, we came to the conclusion that our titles mean we rule together, but neither of us have romantic or otherwise feelings for each other.
“as such, i am deciding to do something that… i should have done long ago. my lover— his name is lee hoseok— and i have let him be treated cruelly just to protect myself from rumors. that is something… i do not feel proud about. he is the kindest soul i have ever had the pleasure of loving, and i wish for him to only feel happy feelings for the rest of his existence. starting from today, he shall carry the title of ‘queen’s consort’. please treat him like you would any royalty. calling him what some have will not be tolerated any longer.
“thank you for your time, this has been queen y/n. i wish a kinder tomorrow for you all, take care.”
hoseok had been waiting in your chambers since you left to deliver your speech that morning, watching it from the tv in your room. he watched the heart-wrenching moments when he could see the fear and regret within you coming together in one big release. he thinks about all the things he needs to say to you when you get back, but once you’re walking through that door, he was at a loss for words.
“good morning, my hoseok,” you murmur softly, nudging him out of his dazed state, “how are you doing today?”
“i am… amazing. i am doing so well,” he finally breaks out into the brightest smile you’ve ever seen from him. he always gave lopsided grins or small smiles, all full of love, but he truly just seemed so happy, and the sight was incredibly endearing, “come kiss me, please.”
“of course, dear,” you mumble, pulling him by his collar to crash your lips on his. his hands cup your cheeks and yours find a home resting on his beautiful chest and shoulders. you kiss him feverishly, and he reciprocates with the same intensity. you pull back to kiss along his jaw, dropping down to kiss his neck as well, and the room is filled with the beautiful breathy moans he lets escape.
“i love you so, so much, y/n,” he whispers breathlessly, gasping when you bite down. his hands hold your waist, pulling you impossibly close, and god he never wants to let go.
“i know, bunny, i know, and i love you so much more,” you whisper as he whimpers out of need when your knee brushes his crotch, pushing him down on the bed, feeling all up on him under you. it’s exhilarating like always, a feeling he’ll never get used to no matter how much he tries, “tell me, bunny, today is about you, so tell me what you want.”
“c-could you—,” he stutters, always struggling with words when you touch him the way you do, “—please ride me?”
“of course, sweetie,” you giggle, of course he wants that. well, you’ve never been one to deny him what he wants, bunny’s so spoiled.
you both undress rather quickly, even as he struggles to get his shirt off. he pulls you back on top of him as soon as he has the chance, and you immediately kiss him with ferocity, hands massaging the skin of his waist, making him giggle slightly, “hah, that tickles!”
you smile at his cute reactions, before taking his hand and pulling it so his fingers barely graze over your sex, “feel that, angel? that’s all you, this is what you do to me” he groans as he feels the wetness on his fingertips, “now stay still, i promise i’ll make you feel really good.”
“you always do,” he breathes with a smile, meeting your soft gaze for a second before you lower yourself down on him and you both moan simultaneously, and he adds on, “o-oh my god!” you take a second to adjust, but you soon start rocking your hips slowly, gaining speed gradually. nothing else, and nobody else, existed in that moment other than you and him.
“bunny,” you murmur, and he tries to pay attention to your voice, but he’s losing himself in the pleasure, “touch me, will you?” he reaches out to rub your clit as you continue to ride him. god, it’s so easy to see stars, especially when there’s the prettiest one right in front of you. you grasp his hair as you start speeding up, feeling your orgasm coming, “cum with me, hoseok.” he attempts to nod, unable to speak from the warmth begging to burst in his body.
he cries out as you pull one last time, orgasming with the most pornographic moans and look on his face you’ve ever seen. you’re right there with him, and if sucks you don’t get a chance to admire him fully, but that can be saved for later.
once you’re done, having both hit your highs and come down, you take care of him like always. he reaches for the snacks you keep in the drawer of your nightstand. it seemed like the boy was always hungry, but especially so after his soul practically left his body from how good you make him feel. you run him a bath where he just plays with bubbles and asks for nose kisses, but he looks so happy that your heart just melts.
and then you tuck him into bed, warmly dressed with fluffy socks to top it off. sure, it’s only 11 in the morning, but you don’t have anything to do until evening, and he could always use some cuddles.

“Holly,” Seungwoo called out and the registered nurse turned around to your group standing there, a bright smile crossing her lips. “Can you give us a hint?”
“Let me guess,” she started, pointing at the four of you with a playful smirk. “Mentoring season?”
“Who’s the best doctor to be assigned to?” Soyou asked earnestly and Jeongmin beside you nodded.
“Give us your expertise from working alongside them all.”
The nurse approached the group of students, folding her arms across her chest. “Well, that would be Doctor Coffee.”
“Doctor who?” Seungwoo questioned, his eyebrows shooting up his forehead. “Ah, don’t mess with us, Holly!”
“I’m serious, tell me who you all got?” the nurse instructed and then once you were all done, you listing over Doctor Chae as your assigned registrar, she looked at you smiling a little more. “Doctor Coffee is the best to learn from, I stand by it.”
“Why is he called that?” you wondered and she patted you on the shoulder, departing your little group with ease.
“You’ll find out!”
You weren’t sure what to expect from Holly’s recommendation, especially since she was referring to a dietitian. Maybe, it was just a fun nickname, and Doctor Chae was known to have a cup of coffee each morning. That didn’t stand out as something to refer to him as, over your several years studying a Bachelor of Science and now wrapping up your Masters in Nutrition and Dietetics, you had become accustomed to coffee as a vice for yourself, and the majority of students and health professionals you crossed paths with regularly. Coffee seemed to be the staple brew in the health industry.
In fact, as you headed towards Doctor Chae’s clinical room the following morning, you were carrying a takeout cup along with your assorted learning tools. Knocking once on his door, you smiled brightly when he called out for you to enter.
“Hello, I’m Y/N,” you greeted, placing your things down so you could wipe off your hand and hold it out to the doctor. He peered at you disinterestedly, barely gripping onto your hand before returning his gaze to the screen. Trying not to be offended, you watched him silently, one hand swishing an iced Americano around whilst the other scrolled over a patient’s file.
Finally, the doctor spoke. “How long are you joining my clinic for?”
“A month.”
“Okay,” he simply replied, going back to his notes.
Waiting for direction, you glanced awkwardly around the room. “Where should I set up?”
“Somewhere that suits your needs best and doesn’t interfere with the patient consultations.”
Was Holly right that learning from such a prickly doctor would be best? You grumbled inwardly knowing the others were no doubt assigned to more approachable staff.
Once the remnants of his cold beverage were finished, you were surprised by the change in activity out of the man. He threw the cup in the trash, stood up and stretched a little, ready for his first patient. The mood in the entire office improved tremendously, as if the last drop of coffee had to be consumed before the doctor kicked into gear.
You perked up by this, sitting up at your little station more eagerly.
And then it was go time.
You were immediately thrown into the issues various patients were having, writing down both your own notes and anything Doctor Chae asked of you. He was incredibly engaging with each session, both with the patient and with you. It was as if you were in a different office than the one you first stepped into.
The young doctor was brimming with knowledge and helpful tips to both you and his clients. He identified issues in their lifestyle and eating plans and explained everything in a way that was informative without sounding too jargon-loaded.
You almost had to wipe your chin for drool at one point; it had hung open in awe for far too long.
The first week of your practical module went by in a blur that it wasn’t until you were starting your next week in Doctor Chae’s office that you picked up on some observations of your mentor.
You had already become accustomed to his indifference in the morning before his first caffeine hit for the day, and there were several other instances where he returned with another cup within his hand from a meeting or lunch, and had even asked when you went to buy yourself a juice if you could get him a coffee whilst at the cafe last Friday. It hadn’t stood out to you as a problem until he sat down with a man in his early 40s who was facing several dietary concerns.
“How many cups of coffee are you drinking throughout the day?”
The man rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. “About four to six, depending on the workload.”
“That’s a lot of coffee,” Doctor Chae mentioned and before you could hold it in, a snort left you. Both men within the room glanced at you as you flushed red, apologising quietly and then repositioned your laptop in attempts to deflect the attention away from you. The doctor cleared his throat a little before continuing with his questions for the patient. Once he was done with his diagnostics, he listed off various ways to help the man recover from burnout, lower his stress and support all this with a balanced diet – one in which didn’t include as much caffeine.
And once the patient left the room, Doctor Chae shut the door behind his farewell and turned towards you. “What was that?”
“Huh?”
“The snort within my consultation.”
You smiled guiltily. “Sorry.”
“No, tell me why you snorted exactly.”
“Well,” you started, feeling as if you were balancing on a dangerous edge with how intense Doctor Chae’s gaze was upon you. Still, you decided to use facts. “You had five cups of coffee yesterday.”
“And in your clinical impression of me so far, Y/N, are you mocking me?”
“I just found it interesting that your patient was drinking too much caffeine and as someone who is highly regarded as a nutrition expert, you know how bad it is for you and still do the same.”
“Interesting findings,” he responded curtly, returning to his desk. “What are your recommendations?”
“I uh, I don’t-”
“It was an observation you made over me, and I want to know if you were the doctor and I were the patient, what you would recommend.”
You panicked. “I’m not sure.”
“The right response is to lower caffeine intake slowly, ensure that I’m sleeping well and to look for alternatives to help with energy and any other reasons for why we take in too much caffeine as humans.” The doctor looked back at you questioningly. “Correct?”
“Yes.”
“So what would you recommend for me to drink this afternoon, Y/N?”
“More water, for one.”
“Can you go get me the biggest bottle you can find in this complex then?” he instructed, holding out his card. You stood up and took it with a quick nod, dashing out of the office and started your trek across the building to the café at the entrance.
Bumping into Jeongmin halfway, you let out an exasperated wail. He chuckled. “That bad with Doctor Coffee?”
“I have just made my working environment sour,” you lamented and the fellow student looked at you for further information. “Doctor Coffee doesn’t like being called out for not doing as he preaches. I accidentally snorted during clinical hours at a comment he made about caffeine intake and now he’s tasked me with getting him the biggest bottle of water I can find.”
“Rather you than me. Working with Doctor Laing has been a breeze. She’s so laidback.”
“Shut up,” you grumbled and Jeongmin nudged you playfully. You glowered at the path ahead. “I take back all I said about how much I was enjoying learning under him. He’s a narcissist.”
“Some doctors just don’t know how to take their own advice. Maybe he’s embarrassed that you called him out. I bet not many people have.”
You pondered the option and shrugged. “He could be. It wasn’t intentional.”
“Who knows, you might be good for one another. Him with all his expertise and you with your inability to keep quiet when you find fault.”
“Jeongmin!” you growled as your friend departed your side with a skip in his step. “Just you wait until I next see you!”
“Looking forward to it!” he called out across at the atrium with a fond wave. “Until then, may the water guide you towards clarity and peace!”
You huffed indignantly. Today was going to be a long day.
Tumblr media
Doctor Chae did decrease his caffeine intake, at least for the remainder of that week. And whilst you tried really hard to keep your opinions to yourself, given he was prickly towards you for an entire day thereafter, you couldn’t help but find more fault with the dietitian's wellbeing.
He didn’t eat nearly enough, the coffee he did religiously still drink simply sloshing around in an almost empty stomach. He was also incredibly picky for someone who boasted to his patients to try and eat a wide range of food types where applicable.
For a successful dietitian, he was seemingly incapable of taking on his own advice.
“Y/N,” the doctor called out and you blinked out of your thoughts, smiling up at the man standing before you. “Are you going to share your observations?”
“The patient was too focused on weight loss-”
“Not those observations, the ones you’re basically sitting on top of your hands so you don’t spill out.”
“I’d rather, not Doctor Chae.”
“Hm, it must be an authoritative thing,” he muttered and then smiled at you. “Please, refer to me as Hyungwon when it’s just us. There. Now you can tell me.”
You laughed a little. “A name doesn’t take away our roles, Doctor Chae.”
“Hyungwon, please,” he repeated and then sat down on the bed beside your station. “Isn’t it annoying to withhold that information?”
“I’d like to keep working with you.”
“It’s that bad?” he guessed with a sigh, rubbing at his face. “I’ve tried with the coffee thing-”
“You barely eat. And what you do pick up is usually processed and only going to give your sugars a sharp boost and then fall rapidly, causing you to reach for the caffeine again. You don’t seem aware of how unbalanced your diet is, at least within this office and I don’t know if you’re tackling underlying medical conditions or live by a specific diet trend, which you and I both know don’t work for the majority of people and leads to unhealthy eating and medical conditions if overused.”
Hyungwon didn’t say anything for a moment, his arms merely remaining folded across his front. And then he broke into a bashful grin. “Feel better?”
“Oh, you have no idea how much,” you breathed and then blinked, your mouth falling agape. “Doctor Chae, I-”
“It’s easier to focus on others and what they eat,” he announced and you bit back the remainder of your apology. He didn’t seem mad this time, in fact, he was visibly flustered and you wondered if Jeongmin had been right the other week. Hyungwon cleared his throat and continued. “I much prefer making sure others are eating well.”
“Who is going to look out for you then?” you questioned and he became thoughtful before shrugging.
“I hadn’t really thought about it.”
“Well, its lunchtime right now,” you mentioned, looking at the clock to confirm you were right for his scheduled lunch break. “How about we eat together?”
“Why would you do that? Don’t you meet up with your fellow student friends on break?”
You smiled brightly as you collected your bag. “Today, I’d much rather have lunch with you.”
The doctor was surprisingly out of his element as you dragged him across the road to an eatery, pointing out the different options before settling on a sandwich bar. You insisted that he add more than just meat and cheese to the roll, his uncomfortable expression causing you to giggle when you were seated across from him. “Doctor?”
“It’s very healthy.”
“It should be. A nice balance of carbohydrates, protein and fats. This will keep you going nicely for the rest of the afternoon, don’t you agree?”
“I don’t know if I like you or not, Y/N.”
“Well, I thought the same about you, admittedly,” you confessed, picking up your filled roll with a smile, thinking back to all the times you had worried over your placement in his office. Glancing at the man again, you merely grinned. “But I think I like you now.”
“Huh.”
There was a comfortable silence between you as you ate and when you both headed back across the road to the hospital, you felt lighter than you had all week long. Swinging your arms at your sides, Hyungwon watched you before smirking. “You’re like a kid.”
“Excuse me?”
“We’re in a place of work, and you’re too elated.”
“Should I come to this place grumbling and see it as a ten-hour sentence each day?” you wondered and Hyungwon smiled, loosening up his body a little more. You nodded eagerly. “Look at that, you’re more carefree as well!”
“Only until we have patients. Then the game face goes back on,” he instructed and you nodded, giggling as Hyungwon skipped across the atrium towards the Dietetics department.
Tumblr media
The next day, you came armed with supplies. You guessed right that the coffee Hyungwon sluggishly made his way through was the only thing he had in the morning and placed a container of porridge in front of him, along with another snack-size pottle containing some fruit. “Y/N, I-”
Giving the doctor a reproachful stare, he groaned at you before eating the entire thing. You noticed he didn’t leave for his mid-morning coffee, and by lunch, he seemed more alert than his usual. Holding up another packed bag of food, you shook it gently. “I made us lunch. It’s nice outside, so shall we go on a picnic?”
“You know, Y/N, anyone would think you’re enjoying yourself right now,” he commented with a pout as you handed over his share of the meal you had made last night to bring today.
“I am.”
“I must admit, you know how to cook well.”
“Is that half the problem? Are you any good in the kitchen?” you asked and Hyungwon grew bashful. “I thought as much.”
“I never prioritised learning how to cook.”
“I bet your grocery list consists of pre-packaged meals.”
“I’m still in charge of you right now, Miss L/N,” he warned with a playful glint in his eye. “Stop calling me out like this.”
“You need to eat better.”
“Do I?”
“I’ll make sure you do!” you proclaimed and the man smiled to himself.
“You’re certainly making a point about it. Though next week is your last with me,” he mentioned carefully and you shrugged.
“My studies are held within this hospital, Hyungwon. It won’t be hard for me to continue this.”
“The bigger question is, why are you wanting to?” he asked boldly, staring at you with that intense gaze of his. You blinked a couple of times before smiling.
“I want to help you look after yourself. You do such an amazing job for others, someone should help you.”
“This won’t get you brownie points on my final assessment for you.”
You gasped noisily as he chuckled. “I was never aiming for that!”
“I suppose it does make sense for a dietitian to practice what he preaches.”
“Precisely,” you agreed smugly, holding up your bottle of water to clink with his. Laughing together, you finished your lunch before heading back in to work on the afternoon clinic.
As promised, even when your time in Hyungwon’s office came to an end, you still made a point of checking in with him. You couldn’t do the breakfast run but the doctor had taken to sending you pictures to make sure you left him alone about eating first thing in the morning.
And he had sent you one this morning which had you leaving your study session in annoyance, marching over to the outpatients sector of the hospital and towards the Dietetics department. Checking with the reception whether Doctor Chae was with or without a patient, you waited outside for him to wrap up with the patient inside before you barged through him when he went to shut the door after they left.
“Y-Y/N!” he exclaimed hastily, darting in front of you. Glancing around the office, you then glared at the man before you.
“Would you like me to tell you of my findings, doctor?”
“No, I’m fine.”
“You see, I noticed that the lighting in today’s photo didn’t quite match the brightness of the world outside. Yesterday was overcast but today is not. And upon inspection, I see a coffee cup and no red and white spotted container. Funny, isn’t it? Because I’m sure you sent me a photo of your breakfast today.”
“I was in a rush.”
“Not that much of a rush that you couldn’t stop for coffee, Hyungwon.”
“You came all the way over here from class to tell me off for sending you the same photo twice? Come on Y/N!” he pointed out with a forced laugh, though you didn’t join him. Hyungwon gulped. “Fine, I’ll take you out for lunch.”
“You better.”
“I promise, now can I get back to seeing my patients?”
“I feel like you’ve become my patient,” you mentioned with a scowl, turning on your heel as you headed back to the university level of the hospital.
Tumblr media
Breakfast and lunches together soon morphed into dinners as well. You hadn’t realised it, but you spent an awful lot of time together now. Standing in Hyungwon’s kitchen using his brand new cooking equipment, since he hadn’t really owned any before, you were almost done with dinner when Hyungwon appeared post-shower.
It should have dawned on you a whole lot sooner than now just how things had changed between you and the doctor.
You were unnaturally quiet over dinner and Hyungwon watched you carefully, putting down his utensils midway. “You figured out I didn’t eat breakfast again, didn’t you?”
“Huh?”
“I slept through my alarm. But this time I did get a blueberry muffin along with the coffee,” he continued, though when you didn’t praise his efforts, Hyungwon paused, narrowing his gaze. “What’s wrong with you?”
“N-Nothing.”
“Are you not happy with dinner? I thought you had done a good job,” he attempted, looking at his plate and then back to your face, still perturbed. “Y/N, you’re going to have to tell me so I can-”
“I think I’m in love with you,” you blurted out and Hyungwon rocked back in his chair, unmoving once the force of his action settled the seat again. You clamped your eyes shut. “I never realised just how much we’ve been acting like this for.”
“Acting like what?”
“Me coming into your world and making you eat each day. It was never my place.”
“No, but I’ve appreciated it. My health hasn’t been this good in years.”
“I stopped eating with my friends because I wanted to eat with you. And I’ve had fun doing so. We’ve been eating together for almost a year now.”
“Have we?” Hyungwon thought for a moment and then nodded. “So we have.”
“I’m guessing you don’t feel the same way,” you commented, pushing back your seat and standing up. “I should go.”
“Wait, Y/N!” he called as he came after you, taking a hold of your wrist and pulling you around. “I’m just confused about how you came to blurt out that you might love me when all you’ve done is talk about eating together.”
Looking up into his eyes as you tried to hold back your emotions from the sudden realisation, you inhaled a deep breath. “I could get used to doing more than just eating with you.”
“Last night we watched a movie together,” he pointed out and you nodded.
“See, we’re basically like a couple. You’re always helping me when I have problems too.”
Hyungwon smiled then, pushing your hair out of your face. “Can I tell you something?”
“Please, I feel like I’m going mad with how calm you are right now.”
“I thought we were already a couple,” he confessed and you merely stared back at him.
“What?”
“From when you were still being mentored by me. That last couple of weeks together, you insisted we ate together and treated me as if I was someone special to you. I knew back then I liked being around you. I mean, you were the first to point out just how easily I was forgetting myself. Your attention on me made me crave it more often.”
“Then why haven’t we made it official?”
Hyungwon shrugged sheepishly. “I didn’t think we needed to. I liked being with you and you seemed to like it too.”
“I do,” you agreed softly. “Why didn’t I connect what I felt for you was like I would of a partner until I saw you drying off your hair?”
“Did it feel highly domestic? You cooking dinner whilst I showered away my long day?” he offered and you reached up to place your hands on his shoulders.
“Can you continue that scene?”
“Hm, maybe I should thank the chef for her amazing meal.”
“That would be nice.”
Leaning in towards your lips, you closed your eyes and waited for impact. Instead, you felt the breath he expelled fall across your face, along with two words. “Thank you.”
“I think I’m going to kill you now,” you responded, snapping your eyes open right when Hyungwon pressed himself into you, kissing away your annoyance at his playful approach. Your eyes fluttered shut again and you fell within the kiss, humming in delight when he finally pulled away.
Hyungwon smiled at you affectionately. “Should we go finish dinner?”
“And watch a movie?”
“Then fall asleep against one another because it’s gotten late?”
You smiled, side-hugging the man as he moved you back towards the table in his apartment. “And eat breakfast together for the first time?”
“I really like the sound of that.”

PAIRING: Kihyun x reader
RATING: M for language/sexy times
GENRE: Enemies to lovers, smut
WORD COUNT: 4,695
SUMMARY: How do you choose dignity over desire when ever inch of your body is screaming for release?
Monsta X Kinks series part seven: Blindfold 🙈
Tumblr media
He is not your boyfriend. Not anymore.
He should be no one to you. He should absolutely not matter.
But despite all of these obvious and logical facts, you can't stop paying attention to him.
From the bar he watches you dance like you're his personal entertainment for the evening. He takes a swallow of what looks to be a gin and tonic and grimaces at the taste. With heavy-lidded eyes he licks the alcohol off his bottom lip and stares at your ass in a way that really should piss you off.
Unfortunately for your sanity, and for your long-standing hatred of him, it's only succeeding in turning you on. Bastard.
Not that you have one these days; a boyfriend, that is. Even if you did, it wouldn't be Yoo fucking Kihyun. The only problem is, he doesn’t seem to have gotten the message.
Your partner in crime for the evening, Kellee, notices immediately, snapping dramatically in your face. 'No.’
You raise your brows innocently. ‘What?’
‘I see who you’re looking at. Just ignore him,' Kellee says over the music. 'He's an ass.'
She tugs on your arm and you reluctantly take your eyes away from his annoyingly angular jaw and perfectly styled hair. She purses her lips at you and folds her arms with a mixture of amusement and annoyance as she dances in her mid-thigh, long-sleeve, black sequinned dress.
‘We’re here to celebrate, remember? Not take a walk down awful memory avenue.’
Right. New Year's Eve. Party at Cherry Blossom. How does he still make me lose track of space and time after all these years?
'I know,' you say, sighing loudly.
Kellee points a finger at you and laughs at the hesitation in your voice. 'Excuse me. We hate him, right?'
'He looks good though.' The cut of his crisp black dress shirt, the expensive Rolex on his wrist, the way his lips twist into a possessive smirk as he meets your eyes. You turn back to Kellee and feel your cheeks heat in embarrassment.
'Shit, he saw me.' You raise your eyes to the ceiling for divine intervention. Of all the nightclubs in all the boroughs in all of New York...
Kellee holds both of your wrists in her hands and forces you to focus on her through the haze of Vodka crans in your blood and the bass so heavy it vibrates along your skin. 'He ditched you the night of senior prom to hook up with Brandi Walters!'
Memories of him in high school flood your mind. The way the air felt like it was sucked out of your lungs when he smiled at you, blushing and asking you out. The tentative press of his mouth against yours for the first time. The enormous and cheesy and perfect poster he made to ask you to be his girlfriend, that’s probably still gathering dust in your closet.
But then...the look on Kellee’s face when she tried to hide the video from you. Brandi’s hands all over Kihyun, when he was supposed to be on his way over to pick you up for prom. Her mouth on his neck. Even college and two more years in between you can still feel how heartbroken you were that night.
You shake your head, disgusted at yourself. 'Jesus Christ, you're right. Who cares about him, anyways? There's plenty of other guys here.'
'Exactly,' Kellee exclaims, smacking you on the butt. 'We've been working so hard on this case I haven't been laid in months, I'm dying.'
While she shakes her ass to a remix of your favorite Majid Jordan song, you scan the room. The guy with the spray tan and the tacky barbed wire bicep tat sitting on the couches? Nah. The hipster with the wire frame glasses and the trying-too-hard plaid shirt? Ugh. Just when you’re about to give up, you see him.
A man with ridiculously hot facial hair and a mischievous look in his eyes leans against the bar on the opposite side from Kihyun. His shirt is a rather disastrous shade of red, but who cares? Something about seeing Kihyun tonight makes your hands sweat. Every brush of your thighs against each other sends a shock of need to your core. You’re not looking for a husband tonight. Anyone but Kihyun will do just fine.
‘Fuck it,’ you say, the sound drowned out by the bass.
On a more civilized night such as oh, literally any other day of the year, you'd be more inclined to flirt and give someone your number. Go on some dates. Let things unfold naturally, easily.
But whatever chaotic and thirsty energy settles upon the city on New Year's Eve each year pushes you to find something more... immediate to relieve your tension. Kellee is right, it's been ages. And you need something more than your trusty vibrator tonight.
You get Kellee’s attention and motion subtly to the guy in the red shirt. She squeals excitedly and waves you on. With a laugh you make your way through the crowd up to the bar. You eye Kihyun surreptitiously as you walk, wishing you didn't know how well he could undo you with just his hands and his mouth.
Prom was supposed to be it, the night you finally slept together after a few months of dating. The night you finally went to home base, or whatever that fucking analogy worked out to be. But then he screwed it up and you never found out if he knew how to use the rest of the, ahem, tools at his arsenal. Pity.
Tonight, you want a face buried in your neck. You want teeth against your skin and hands on your hips, insistent and rough enough to leave a faint purple outline of fingerprints in the morning. Tonight you want to be fucked so hard that the stress of the last few months of law school fall away like a snakeskin. Tonight you want to come so many times your legs shake and you leave scratch marks down someone's back.
Tonight you want to be 'raw and exposed,' a favorite expression of you and Kellee’s. Normally it’s a joke, but tonight you mean it literally. And you want it with anyone but Yoo Kihyun.
Red shirt's eyes follow your legs as you climb the short stairs up to the bar. The satin of your red dress teases the skin of your thighs, clinging to you in the warmth of the bar. The short sleeves and the skirt are loose and flowing but neither red shirt nor Kihyun can ignore the way the neckline cuts low and hugs tight to your ample chest.
He smiles as you pass, expecting you to come to him. But tonight you're a lion dressed as a lamb, a huntress pretending to be prey. Come and get it, you think. You return his friendly grin as you move behind him.
Red shirt catches on quickly. ‘Hey, can I buy you a drink?’
Unfortunately, you agree to the drink before you learn three things that would make you not sleep with him under any circumstance.
First, his cologne is downright awful. Thirteen year old boys swiping samples of Axe body spray from magazines smell better. Second, he proudly and happily tells you he’s drinking O’Douls… because he likes the taste. Third, the only thing he’s interested in talking about tonight is the Lakers/Clippers game on tonight.
After ten minutes you desperately look for Kellee on the floor, hoping she’ll come save you. But she’s happily grinding with a Chad Michael Murray circa 2007 lookalike and you wish her well. You roll your eyes as politely and as covertly as you can when red shirt mentions Lebron’s ‘sick lay-up’ for about the twentieth time and unfortunately you meet Kihyun’s focus.
He grins at you while he talks with the woman behind the bar, raising a brow in question. You can almost hear him asking if you need to be rescued. Infuriated, you turn back to red shirt, ignoring him… almost. Out of the corner of your eye you watch as he runs a finger along the rim of his glass before drawing it into his mouth. Another swipe of his tongue along the plump bottom lip and you can see it gleam from clear across the bar.
You want to whine in frustration and need. Sure, you could excuse yourself. Tell red shirt you need to meet your friend. But, when it comes to Yoo Kihyun, you did always like playing with fire.
With an exaggerated sigh you subtly nod to him. Triumph and heat flare in his eyes as he makes his way over to you. Rolling up his sleeves, he exposes taut forearms and you distantly remember the way they felt pressed against the tender skin of your waist.
Kihyun slides next to you, his arm effortlessly coming around your waist. His hand finds your hip comfortably and rests high enough to be respectful. He bends and presses a kiss to the exposed skin of your shoulder, lips lingering, sending a jolt of awareness down your spine. The scent of his rich cologne wraps around you and you almost sigh with relief.
Red shirt, who you now know is named John, blinks in surprise. 'Who's this?'
Kihyun suppresses a laugh and says against your ear, 'sorry I'm late darling, I can't believe I kept the most beautiful woman in the world waiting.' He holds out his hand to John. 'Thanks for keeping her company for me. I'm Kihyun.'
Guy looks perplexed, but to his credit he shrugs it off fast. 'John. Have a great night, Y/N.'
The moment John turns back to his group of friends Kihyun leans against the bar, smug smile on his infuriatingly handsome face.
You snort and try to walk past him, rolling your eyes. ‘Thanks.’
His arm comes out to block your path. ‘Going so soon, darling?’
‘Ugh, you’re disgusting,’ you say, folding your arms. ‘Did you know that?’
He motions to the bartender and instantly two Vodka crans appear. Kihyun hands you one with a playful smile. ‘I did know that, in fact.’ He takes a large sip of his. ‘But despite that, you did still let me help you.’
You hold the drink as though it’s a grenade, liable to go off at any second. ‘I was desperate. If I had to listen to another three seconds of audio commentary of a goddamn basketball game I was going to run out of here screaming. Don’t flatter yourself.’
He eyes you from the tips of your heels to the top of your hair. ‘I’d so much rather you flatter me.’
A feeling almost like anger, but with far too much arousal fills your veins and you almost snarl at him. ‘What makes you think I’d want anything to do with you?’
Kihyun raises his hands in surrender and stands, facing you. He clinks his glass to yours and downs the rest of the liquid in one swallow. ‘I know you don’t want anything to do with me anymore. You made that very clear at Senior prom.’
Your mouth drops open. ‘Wow. Bold of you to bring that up, after what you did.’
‘What I did?’ His brows furrow. ‘After you ditched me, you mean? I have to say the hostile and condescending tone is what I expected given how you ignored me after that night. But I hoped you’d grown out of it.’
‘After I ditched you?’ You step closer, narrowing your eyes at him. ‘I saw the video of you and Brandi. Why would I wait around like a fool after that?’
He grits his teeth. ‘Is that what you think happened? Brandi was my friend Jay’s date and she was so drunk from the pre-gaming that she couldn’t even walk on her own. I was helping to get her into my car so we could take her to the clinic. Is that what you saw?’
‘I-’ you start. ‘Even if I believe you, which I don’t, how do I know you’re telling the truth?’
Kihyun runs a frustrated hand through his hair. ‘You could ask the nurse at the clinic. Or the dozens of people at prom who saw me show up just after ten, wondering why my girlfriend hasn’t answered any of my dozen texts or calls.’
You worry your lip between your teeth. ‘Kellee took my phone. She didn’t want me to get hurt any worse.’
He sighs and laughs to himself. ‘Well, that would explain quite a lot.’
Suddenly, you want to reach for him. To force him to look into your eyes and tell you the past six years were just a dream. ‘So you really didn’t cheat on me?’
The warmth and surprise in his brown eyes almost undoes you. ‘No, I didn’t. And I guess you didn’t ditch me either.’ You shake your head. ‘Huh.’
You pick up the drink and take a big sip. ‘Huh, indeed.’
Kihyun does the same, a smile playing on his lips. The alcohol and the music and the sweat running down your spine from the heat of the room and the goddamn way Kihyun is watching you over the rim of his glass - it’s all going to your head and you reach a hand for his arm to ground yourself.
‘Come home with me.’ He steps closer, hands finding your waist. ‘I believe we have some unfinished business.’
You make a noise of disbelief. ‘You don’t know anything about me, Kihyun. Not anymore.’
His lips find the spot where your neck meets your shoulder. ‘I want to know everything.’
His hands draw slowly down your side, moving around your lower back. ‘I want to hear all about your job or school, however you fill your days. I want to know where you’re living now, and about your friends, and if you have any adorable pets.’
He eases your back against the bar, pressing himself into all of your curves. ‘I want to know how you like your coffee in the morning.’
Kihyun pulls back, breathless, his eyes turning black in the low lighting. ‘But right now, more than anything, I want to know how it feels to be inside you.’ You gasp and he traces his lips along the shell of your ear. ‘And what it feels like when you come around me.’
You nod, groaning as he pulls your ear lobe between his teeth. All you can manage is a needy, ‘please.’
He grins, pulling you through the dance floor. ‘You tell your friend you’re leaving, I’ll get the car.’
Before you can say anything he pauses on the stairs and kisses you fully on the mouth. In your surprise you can only hold onto his shoulders to try and steady yourself. It’s only a preview of what’s to come but already the hot slide of his lips against yours, the insistent tugging his teeth do as they nip your full lower lip, makes you feel desperate to have him inside you.
He pulls back and laughs. At least he has the decency to look just as flustered as you feel. ‘Sorry, I - it’s been so long. I missed that.’
You shake your head at him as he heads off to a side door. ‘Wait! Don’t we need to pay?’
Kihyun winks. ‘I own the bar!’ he calls above the music before disappearing out into the night.
Amused, you tilt your head back and laugh. Of course he does.
Excitement thrums in your veins as you find Kellee and give her the shortest possible version of the story. She watches you carefully and makes you promise to text at least twice tonight so she knows your safe. After many reassurances and a dash to coat check, you emerge out the front. Fear tells you he’s left you again and this is all just a stupid prank.
But no. He rolls down the window of his Porche and tilts his head. ‘Get in.’
The seats are plush and match your dress coincidentally. He turns on the radio, more from a desire to distract from the obvious erection he's sporting than for any particular urge to listen to jazz.
For the first minute of the drive you focus on slowing your breathing, savoring the unexpected catharsis that being with him tonight is bringing you. An old wound in your chest undone, emotion bleeds out onto your skin in a healing wave. It surrounds you like steam in a sauna, the way you want him feels palpable on your lips and hands and at the meeting of your thighs.
Once you accept this new reality you look at him, wondering how far to push him. If this Kihyun is as romantic and sweet as the one you knew in high school, or if this new version has a bit of bite. He holds his jaw tight, the muscles in his neck working to concentrate on the road. Unable to resist you slowly reach your hand across the gearshift and rest it on his thigh.
He meets your gaze for a beat and something shimmers within - a heat and need that match your own. As the sultry music plays you lean across the seat and rest your chin on his shoulder. Slowly, so slowly he groans, you drag your hand up towards his obvious need. With featherlight touches you kiss his neck above his collar.
When you reach his hard cock, settling over the length covered by the fabric of his pants, you bite down on his earlobe. The car jerks to a stop and you look out the windshield, terrified you've somehow made him crash with your tentative efforts at seduction. Thankfully, it appears you've arrived at his house. The townhome is modern, two-stories, and instantly you wonder what the bedroom is like.
'We should get inside,' he says darkly. 'If I touch you here, we won't leave until I'm inside you.'
With a laugh, you nod. 'That's probably a good idea.'
For a long moment you stare at each other. Taking in the flush in his cheeks, the way the heat of his skin kept some of the red of your lipstick as a souvenir. No doubt he can read the arousal in your blood. The way the strap of your dress is sliding off your shoulder, begging to be removed.
He looks like he's about to risk it and kiss you, but at the last moment he grunts and opens his car door. A beat later and he opens yours, holding his hand out to you. Once, this was so natural. Being with him, trusting him, your palms and lips and hearts never far from each other. As he guides you inside you wonder about the distance from that time to now. If this is just one good fuck between exes or if he expects there to be more; if you do.
In his exuberance he accidentally slams the door open, the sound too hard against the wall behind it. He seems frustrated by the sheer distance and pulls you into his arms before shutting the door with one hand and leaning you against it. Breathless, you cling to his shoulders, wondering if he means to swallow you whole, unmaking you as the tide does to the sand.
He notices your hesitation and brings a hand to cup your face. 'Hey, what is it?' His breath ghosts across your cheek at his whispered soft words.
'It's stupid, but -'
'Tell me,' he asks and smiles softly.
'It's been so long, Kihyun. I'm just nervous it won't be like we're hoping. I don't even know what you want. Do you just want tonight or-'
He closes this distance and presses a chaste kiss to your lips. 'I want you tonight. I want you for a long time. It's always been you, you know. I've tried to date other people but... I just want you.'
'Really?'
His hands pull at your waist, moulding your body closer against his. 'Yes, really. I can't guarantee the first time will be perfect,' he says, his lips ghosting along yours. 'I want it to be. I want you to laugh and smile and sigh and moan just as I dreamed you would. I want to hold you after and fall asleep with your heart beating against mine and your leg wrapped around my waist.'
You giggle and kiss him back. He's been many things in the time you've known him, but he's never been a liar. 'Okay.'
Kihyun grins against your lips and bends, lifting you into his arms. Your dress slides up, exposing you to his eager hands. 'Just okay?'
You squeal and hold onto his shoulders to stay upright. 'Better than okay.'
'Good,' he answers. ‘If at any point you want me to stop, just say the word.’
He does his best to walk upstairs with you in his arms and his mouth on your neck. His erection strains against your thigh, making him groan. You absolutely make it worse by tugging on his hair and moaning at his tongue on the sensitive nerves where your shoulder meets your neck.
With his hands full he manages to find the bed, tripping and dropping you onto the plush comforter. He falls after you, laughing, landing in a tangle of arms and limbs.
Righting himself he grins, running a hand through his hair. 'Stay right there, I have something I think might help.'
You kick off your heels and use your elbows to move you further onto the bed, watching with curiosity as he impatiently strips off his jacket and shirt. 'Hey, no fair. I wanted to do that,' you pout.
He gives you a dangerous smirk before he starts digging in his closet. Triumphant, he pulls out a black tie. ‘Would this help?’
Your jaw drops open. 'You want to tie me up? Blindfold me? So you want me to trust you by not letting me move or see anything?' You raise a brow at him.
Kihyun laughs and removes his shoes and socks. He climbs onto the bed, scooting so his back rests against the headboard, his legs spread out in front of him. His chest moves as he breathes, as though he's been running. 'No. I want you to use it on me.'
Something warm and bright flashes in your chest. 'Oh!'
His eyes go wide. 'You don't have to! I mean... I just thought-'
Desire makes you clench your thighs together. Excitement and curiosity make you crawl across the bed to him. 'No, I want to. It's perfect,' you smile, straddling him.
He smiles and sets it beside him on the bed. 'I have one thing I want to see first.' His hands toy with the edges of your dress.
When you nod he lifts the fabric over your head. Before it hits the ground the heat of his palms warms your hips. He strokes over the sensitive skin of your side and you moan, dropping your forehead to his shoulder.
Kihyun eases your bra off you so gently you sigh. 'God, you're so beautiful. I missed this.' He kisses along your shoulder and down your arm, holding up your hand so he can kiss your palm. 'I missed you.'
'I missed you too.' You stay like that for a minute before the hard feel of him pressing against your core demands attention. 'Now please make love to me before I lose my mind.'
He thows his head back and laughs. In quick succession he undoes the zipper of his pants and slides them off, holding you up with his hips and a hand around your waist. 'Your wish is my command.' He gives you a wink before grabbing the tie and securing it around his head.
His chest rises and falls as he breathes, waiting to see what you’ll do, hands obediently resting on your thighs. You wave a hand in front of his face. He doesn’t move. With a grin you run a finger down his chest and he shivers. You back up and take off your underwear, throwing it to the floor. He whines and his hands reach for you, already demanding to touch you again.
When you straddle him again, he sucks in a sharp inhale of breath. He peeks out from under the tie with one finger. ‘I’m in your control tonight,' he says warmly. 'You set the pace.'
Quickly, he fumbles in his nightstand and retrieves a condom, handing it to you as though it were a precious package. 'I trust you.’
You purse your lips at him, trying not to laugh, and he settles the blindfold back over his eyes. Despite how wet you are, and how desperate you are to sit yourself on his cock, you resolve not to take him inside you until he begs for it. You ease the fabric over his erection and take him in your hand.
After tearing the wrapper you roll the condom down his length. Slowly, you begin to stroke him. He grunts and his fingers dig into the flesh of your now naked hips.
With your free hand you slide two fingers across your slit, gathering the moisture there. You add your second hand to the motion of the first, coating him in your wetness and easing your stroke. Kihyun bites his lip, pressing his head back against the headboard. The veins stand out against his throat and you dip your head and run your tongue along one.
‘Fuck, I’m going to come before I even get inside you,’ he groans, high, whining. Good enough.
Thighs pressing against his, holding his wooden headboard with one hand, you guide him to your entrance. Your arousal eases the way as you slide down and in seconds he's filled you to the hilt.
Years ago, when you took him with your mouth and your hands, when his tongue and his agile fingers brought you to your first orgasm, you thought about what it would be like to feel him inside you. None of those fantasies prepared you for the taste of his mouth on yours or the way your bodies line up perfectly as he stretches you just enough to burn around his girth.
You can't swallow the moan that leaves you as he rocks his hips into yours and everything gets so much better. 'Hey, you're not supposed to be helping.'
He pulls you onto him more fully and it feels so good you squeeze your eyes together. 'Was that a rule?'
Kihyun repeats the motion, angling you so every thrust brings delicious friction to your clit. With a shuddering breath you clutch at his headboard for balance. 'I'll allow it,' you moan, holding the back of his neck as you match his motion with your own.
His thumbs dig into your sensitive skin hard enough to leave marks in the morning, his fingers grasping the flesh of your ass. You’re beyond caring about anything but this moment. His face is buried in your hair, his raspy, animalistic groans coming from him make you squeeze around him.
'Fuck,' he groans, doubling his pace and making you feel like you're about to explode from the heat and slide of him inside you.
'Come with me,' is all you can get out amongst the stream of gasps and sighs you can't contain.
He nods, his teeth playing with the tendons in your neck just sharp enough to send shockwaves of sharp pleasure to your already sensitive core. One of his hands leaves your waist and you feel his thumb swirl circles around your clit. Your orgasm bursts forth like a river freed from a dam and you cling to him and he rides out your release as well as his own.
When your breathing returns to normal you lift your arms, thick with pleasure and the best kind of exhaustion, and remove the blindfold. He looks as relaxed as you feel and he brushes your hair behind your ears.
'And the verdict is?'
‘I can’t believe we could have been doing that for the past few years, fuck,' you laugh.
He strokes his thumb across your lip. ‘I hope we can do that uhhh, quite often in the future. After you tell me all about your life right now.’
‘Deal,’ you say, pulling his face back to yours to kiss him.

You, Me, and Satan Himself
Lee Jooheon X Reader
Word count: 6.5k
Warnings: mild language. there are a couple of mentions of suicide/attempted suicide, not member or reader related. also mentions of child death, also not member or reader related. ummm I think that’s it.
Genre: bffs to lovers. idiots to lovers. alludes fwb but not LJH/Reader. It’s got some spooky themes, but ultimately it’s fluff.
A/N: It’s a Halloweeeeeen story! Ghosts and ghouls, firemen and pirates and of course Satan himself. ;D Happy Birthday @nemesyis! This one is for you. It’s not really an attack story, but I hope you enjoy it anyway!
Tumblr media
Wind was howling through the naked branches of the trees that lined the path you were on. The brisk chill of the fall air made you shiver. Much to your chagrin the dress and tights combo of your costume was doing almost nothing to keep the cold from consuming you. Clicking of your black lolita heels against the pavement beneath you echoed down the avenue you were walking down. Luckily it was a full moon, which meant that the path was fully visible despite the lack of lights. It might have been romantic if you weren’t mentally preparing yourself to be spooked. Focusing in on the sound of every branch that cracked, every hoot of an owl, every flicker of movement in your peripherals was being noted and you were thrilled by the way it all made the blood tingle in your veins. The only thing putting you off was the chattering of your teeth. It was hard to focus on getting in the mood when you couldn’t stop thinking about how cold you were.
“I told you to bring a jacket.” Jooheon muttered beside you.
“A jacket doesn’t go with this costume.” you advised him for the hundredth time that night. “And the dress has sleeves...I thought it would be warmer.”
“Yeah well my costume doesn’t require a jacket either, so thanks for that.” he complained.
Stopping, you looked over at your very grumpy best friend. It was cute, his outfit. Plaid button down shirt tucked into brown cargo shorts. Round glasses sat on his nose. Pocket protector, complete with pens, sat against his chest. Tube socks pulled all the way up his calves and dirty sneakers on his feet. Every little detail made you smile, you’d done wonderfully putting it together for him, you knew there was even an inhaler in his pocket. He was the perfect Joel Glicker to your Wednesday Addams.
“Honey…” you said lifting your hand to his cheek as he pouted at you, “you look so cute. Thank you for being the best best friend a girl could ask for. I promise that next year I will have a boyfriend of my own and I’ll make him do couples costumes with me, and then you’ll never have to deal with it again.”
He sighed deeply and then gave a tight smile, you still caught a glimpse of his dimple, “It’s fine.”
Once the two of you got moving again you fell back into a comfortable silence, like the pair of you usually did. Instead of going back to your mood setting thoughts you considered Jooheon. He really was the greatest guy you knew. Growing up neighbors left him destined to be either your best friend or worst enemy and at different points in your life he’d been both.
From toddler to teen you were inseparable. Then at some point you couldn’t remember hormones tore you apart. That was when he met the boys. You could still remember how jealous you’d been that first summer watching them hanging out all the time, wishing it was still you he wanted to spend his time with. You’d tried making new friends but mostly became a recluse, playing video games all the time and reading libraries worth of books. In high school you got your first boyfriend, an athlete in the year ahead of you, and you dated for three years. On the first day of summer before your senior year he ditched you because he wanted to be single for university.
You never knew how he’d heard about the break up, you never asked, but the very next day when you had convinced yourself you were never leaving your blanket burrito ever again Jooheon showed up. The moment he walked into your room, after your mom had let him in the house, it was like there had never even been a second that you were apart. He spent every single day with you that summer. Even if he’d had plans with the boys, he always dragged you along. You barely spent a second alone and by the time senior year started you had practically forgotten you’d ever had a boyfriend in the first place. From then on you were back to inseparable even now as adults.
“I hate this.” he grumbled beside you.
The shrubbery along the path was thickening and it was getting darker the further you moved along. You reached over and grabbed his hand, squeezing your fingers around his.
“Don’t worry so much. I’ll protect you, I swear.” you smiled over at him. “We’re almost there.”
There was the sound of another snapping branch from the trees and you could feel his body vibrate in fear, “We’re going to die, I hope you know. This is the worst night of my whole life because I’m going to die...dressed like a nerd.”
“Thank you.” you said again.
“For what? Dying with you on this cold, dark, abandoned path to some haunted house in the middle of nowhere?”
“Kind of,” you laughed quietly, “Thank you for coming with me tonight. I know you would have much preferred to stay at the party picking up chicks. Instead you came with me and that means a lot.”
“Oh,” he seemed to ease at your words and even puffed out his chest slightly, “It’s cool. Honestly, no big deal at all. I didn’t want to be at that party if you weren’t going to be there anyway. And yes, this may be a weird, creepy idea that I hate more than anything, but you know I’d do anything for you.”
You squeezed his hand again and smiled, “I love you, Honey.”
He rolled his eyes but smiled all the same, “I love you too.”
“We’re so close, the house is right up here, just around that curve.” you couldn’t help your excitement and you moved faster down the path.
As you had nearly reached the end of the path, the abandoned house in your sight, you could see a large dark mass speeding towards you, but you didn’t process it fast enough. Not until the cloaked figure was already rawring loudly into your face. Jumping back you clutched your chest, heart racing. Seconds passed and you finally registered Changkyun’s laughter, and your eyes adjusted enough to see his devilish face clearly. Jooheon was long gone, having sprinted back down the path quite a ways, he was still shrieking.
“That’s so fucked, Kyun.” you let out a large breath.
Devil horns atop his head, he held up his finger, an evil grin on his lips, “Just wait, it gets better.”
By then Jooheon’s screams had petered down. When you looked down the path to the silhouette of his figure you could see he was making his way, slowly, back to you. He was still several yards away when you saw the two new dark figures creeping out of the brush behind him. It was very clear he hadn’t noticed their presence yet.
“No, my poor Honey.” you mumbled, “Minhyuk?”
“And Hyungwon.” Changkyun snickered beside you.
After just a moment more of silence you could hear their collective “Boo!” as they lunged towards Jooheon. The sound of his screaming and cursing echoed through the night as he sprinted full speed back to you.
“Assholes!” he shouted, “All my friends are assholes!”
He clung to you as he panted, catching his breath and you gently patted his back, “You’re not wrong about that.”
“I knew it was going to be good,” Minhyuk said still laughing as he and Hyungwon made it to the group, “but that was so much better than I ever expected.”
After finishing rolling your eyes you saw a flicker of light bouncing its way out of the front of the building.
“Shownu!” you called out cheerfully as you recognized the man behind the flashlight in his fireman costume. He gave a small wave as he made his way over. “Where’s everyone else?”
“Kihyun and Hoseok met some people at the party.” He shrugged as he moved out of the hug he’d given you. “Hoseok said to say sorry. Kihyun said to tell you he was not sorry and that if you couldn’t understand you weren’t really friends.”
You laughed, knowing that it was likely that’s exactly what he said. “Wait so you just went in all by yourself?”
“Yeah, no one was here when I got here so I went in and took a look around. Not very exciting as far as haunted houses go. I didn’t find any workers. There’s no smoke machines or creepy music.” he said sounding very unimpressed.
“Nunu…” you shook your head, “Oh sweet man, it’s not a haunted house, it’s just creepy and abandoned.”
“Ohh.” he nodded in understanding, “That makes more sense.”
Jooheon quickly went from clinging to you to clinging to the pillar of muscle and fearlessness that was Shownu. “Full offense to everyone else here, who sucks, but dibs on Nu as my partner.”
“Dibs on y/n.” Minhyuk said throwing his arm over your shoulder, “Unintentionally wearing couples costumes and everything.”
You looked him up and down in confusion, “Min, you’re a pirate. How are we at all a couples costume?”
“You see, after tonight, when you’re wowed by my courage, strength, and overall ability to protect you, you won’t be able to resist me.” you did your best to hold back a snort, “After that, we will be a couple and then no matter what our outfits are they will always be couples outfits. ...because, you know, we’ll be a couple.”
“I think I got it.” you laughed.
As he’d been talking everyone, with the exception of Minhyuk himself, watched as Hyungwon slipped silently behind the brazen pirate. In a swift motion he reached out, grabbing his hips, with a quick boo! Minhyuk jumped about a foot in the air, his pirate hat was thrown off his head and his shrill shriek pierced the cold air.
“Yeah...good luck in there, y/n.” Hyungwon said shooting you a wink.
“She’s a goner for sure.” Changkyun smirked.
“Alright, alright.” you said anxiously, “Let’s do this. I don’t want to be standing out here until the sun comes up.”
Pushing through the group you made your way to the dark house. The pirate and the devil followed closely behind, the others with slightly less enthusiasm. Once you hit the porch steps of the old colonial house you pulled your flashlight from the pocket of your dress. One of the double doors had been broken or removed and was leaning against the door frame. It wasn’t really breaking and entering, you thought to yourself, just entering really.
You ducked through the open door to avoid the giant cobweb in the corner. Inside the house was covered in a thick layer of dirt and dust. Dead leaves scattered across the floor as far as your eyes could see and you wondered just how long the front door had been down. Rebellious teenagers had left graffiti a top the peeling wallpaper. There were giant holes all along the walls and you were sure there wasn’t a foot of copper wiring left in the old bones of the home.
The foyer was huge and as the beam of your flashlight moved over it you could just imagine how beautiful it had been in its youth. There was a staircase to the second floor to the left of the room. Beyond it were two hallways leading off in opposite directions. You looked over at the giant landing at the base of the staircase and nodded to yourself.
“Changkyun,” you said and flashed your light over at the area, “how about here?”
He nodded in agreement, “Perfect.”
He handed you candle after candle from a brown satchel at his side to light and place around the area. When the fireman, Glicker, and Hyungwon as the ghoul all made it inside the whole group of you got comfortable, or as comfortable as you could, on the landing of the staircase. The devil stayed standing, his red cloak swooped around his legs and the light from the candles lit up his face dramatically as he prepared to tell the group about the history of the home. The shadow of his horns illuminated against the wall behind him.
“The year,” Changkyun began, “was eighteen oh six. Doctor Leonardo Fitz had just wed the love of his life, Maria Vanderson. As a grand gesture of his love for her he had this house built just for her and what was meant to be their large, happy family. However, after many years had passed the halls of the home remained without the laughter of children. It seemed that the couple was not fated for the family they had dreamed of. Maria was devastated and heartbroken, believing herself to be at fault for their misfortune. Unable to take the guilt of it all she attempted to drown herself in the couple's claw footed bathtub, that remains upstairs to this very day.”
Jooheon let out a hiss of a breath and burrowed closer to you.
“Maria Vanderson was unsuccessful at her death, found too quickly by the house maid and dragged from the water. Though when she woke her husband feared the damage had already been done. His wife had become delusional. Nightmares haunted her sleep and visions attacked her in the light of day. To anyone who would give her a minute of their time she babbled on about what had happened in her time in the great beyond. She spoke of a man that had come to her just before the light took her for good.
The man with eyes as black as the darkest night sky pressed the palm of his clawed hand against her flat stomach. Locking his dark stare with her fearful one he whispered, ‘my son’. A little over a month after the incident occurred they found out that Maria was pregnant. The doctor, desperate for an excuse for his wives apparent insanity, blamed her delusions on the pregnancy hormones. Nine months to the very day of her attempted suicide, Maria gave birth.”
“Nooooo.” Minhyuk gasped. You bit your lip to keep from laughing at the look of absolute horrified realization on his face.
“What?” Jooheon asked with morbid curiosity, even as he wrapped himself even tighter around you.
Minhyuk looked over at him with raised eyebrows and mouthed, “It’s the devils baby!”
Changkyun sighed in annoyance. “Well if Minhyuk is just going to spoil everything what’s the point of even going on with the story.”
“Oh, Kyunnie, please!” You pouted cutely, “It’s so good and you worked so hard on all that research.”
“I did.” He nodded smugly, “I researched the entire history of this home…  So I will continue, but everyone better keep their theories to themselves.”
“Sorry,” Minhyuk said as he coward at the pointed look from his junior.
“What had been more shocking than the timing of Maria’s labor,” he started once more, “was that she gave birth to twin boys. One with flaxen hair like his father, the others black as a raven’s feather.”
Minhyuk let out another dramatic gasp but quickly slammed his hand over his mouth.
Changkyun continued, “Both boys grew up portraits of health and seemingly as normal as any other child might. The only difference between them besides the color of their hair was that Damian, the raven haired child, had been fussier than his brother Gabriel. He required much more attention but only that from his mother was able to comfort him. As they aged the changes and differences between them became more and more clear. Gabriel was a playful, independant boy that enjoyed spending his time outside in the sun. He liked to run around the giant yard, swinging on the swing set, and climbing trees. He liked to be dirty and to laugh.
Damien did not enjoy those things. He was quiet, an observer of the things around him. Even though he was just a boy he still knew things about the people in the home, their secrets.  He preferred to do whatever his mother was doing, always at her side. She called him her little shadow and adored him with every ounce of her being. The doctor did not feel the same way about the boy. He felt he could see a darkness in the child and was watching it grow every day. It terrified the doctor to see how he manipulated Maria and the others in the house into loving him.
One afternoon Maria had been getting ready for a gala she was to attend with the doctor. She’d been in front of her vanity doing her makeup. The boys had been running up and down the hallway and in the playroom quite loudly. After some time had passed she realized the house had grown silent.”
“I don’t like it,” Jooheon whispered just to you, and pressed his face into your shoulder. You squeezed his hand comfortingly and listened to Changkyun go on.
“When she stepped from the bedroom into the hallway the only thing she could see was Damien at the top of the stairs holding a wooden toy airplane at his side. As she moved closer to her son she could see the mortifying view at the bottom of the stairs. Her fair haired boy laid mangled across the bottom step, blood oozing around him. She wrapped Damien in her arms, pressing his face to her chest to protect him from the sight. The help claimed they could her screams for hours after, just echoing up and down the halls. Maybe we’ll even hear them tonight.”
“Wait...these stairs?!” Hyungwon asked in a panic, shooting up from the bottom step he’d been sitting on. He cleared his throat and said a little more casually, “I mean ...these stairs?”
“One and the same.” Changkyun confirmed.
“What...that’s it?” Shownu asked high key unimpressed. You watched as Hyungwon slowly made his way from the staircase to the opposite side of the circle, otherwise unnoticed.
“Worry not, the story doesn’t end there.”
“Oh god damn it.” Jooheon groaned beside you.
“Alright, everyone, settle down and focus.” Changkyun waited for everyone’s attention before going on with the story. “Doctor Leo knew right away what had happened to his son and was furious. He wanted to get rid of the evil boy. However, Maria loved her son and she refused to believe the ravings of a madman. One day while she’d been out the doctor had even brought a priest into the home to try and exorcise the boy. Maria was enraged when she arrived home. Unable to handle the pained cries of the only child she had left, she tore the restraints from his body and banned the clergy from her home.
A decade had passed and the doctor’s fear and anger had torn him and Maria apart. They stayed on opposite sides of the home. She refused to speak to him because every time she did he would just say some hurtful things to her about Damien. The doctor began to drink heavily, he was falling apart having lost his son and then his wife.
On his fifteenth birthday, what would have been Gabriels as well, Maria took her son into the city for lunch and then to the zoo. When they arrived back home they found the doctor had ended his own life. Unable to handle the evil consuming the home any longer. His limp, lifeless body was found hanging from the railing, just there,” Changkyun pointed up to the railing of the second floor that was broken, leaving dangerous open gaps, “He’d made a noose out of bed sheets.”
“Two down, one to go.” Hyungwon joked, though he eyed the railing warily
“He won’t kill the mom.” Shownu argued. Both Minhyuk and Jooheon shuddered at the thought.
You sighed, “Come on, guys. He’s almost to the best part.”
“Which is?” Shownu asked.
“The end.” Jooheon grumbled.
“The best part is when he finally gets to the reason we’re really here.” you corrected.
“Just get it over with then.” Minhyuk whined, pulling his knees to his chest.
“For three years following the death of the doctor, mother and son lived here quite harmoniously. The only complaints to be had were from the help. Maids and gardeners often complaining about the property being overrun by creatures that always ended up dead. In the home and around it they found rats, cats, birds, foxes, rabbits, and snakes. As if they’d come to the house for the sole purpose of dying.
One afternoon, not long after Damien’s eighteenth birthday, Maria was just coming home from a short trip to the city. Out on the lawn, she found the old gardener facedown on the ground, dead.  When she ran inside the maid and the cook where both here in the foyer. Deep gashes like those from the claws of an animal covered their bodies. Blood was seeping from their wounds. She could see, dug into the wood flooring, were marks left by the cooks nails as she’d been dragged down the hall. Terrified for her son’s life, Maria searched the whole house for Damien. She found the door of the study, the last place she’d checked, slightly ajar. She peered inside and what she saw made her sick with fear.
Her son was standing in the center of the room with his eyes closed and naked as the day he was born. Behind him the fireplace was burning and she watched with wide eyes as a horned beast stepped out from the flames half man, half animal. Ten feet tall it had hoven feet and eyes as black as the darkest night. In his clawed hands he held a gold chalice. He spoke in a language she could not understand and from the chalice poured what seemed like an endless stream of dark red blood on top of her son’s head.
In a voice she’d heard before the beast whispered, my son.
Damien’s eyes opened under the shower of blood, and she gasped when she saw they were as black as his fathers. The door swung open, exposing her. The last thing she saw was the sick twisted smile of her demon son as his father came for her.
Some people say you can hear the sound of hoven feet against the hardwood floor, the pained screams of Maria, the giggles of young Gabriel, and warnings from the doctor himself, whispered against your ear, begging you to leave this damned home.”
“I’ve seen the fireplace in the study. It’s huge. The devil coming out of it,” Shownu shrugged, “that’s actually pretty believable.”
“The devil!” Jooheon whined, “That’s so much worse than just a regular ghost story! I hate this, I’m gonna be sick.”
“Who is going to explain why we’re here?” Shownu asked, “I thought that would be made clear.”
“We’re here to find the chalice.” Changkyun answered. “Somewhere in this haunted old house is the devil's cup. We will go in our pairs and search until it’s found or the sun has risen.”
“What do we get if we find it?” Hyungwon asked intrigued.
“Pride, honor, a golden chalice to drink all of your future drinks out of.” you said as if the answer were obvious. “Also, the winning team gets breakfast paid for by the losers.”
“Yeah, we’re winning. Let’s go.” With that Shownu grabbed Jooheon by the wrist and dragged him down the hall to the left.
“Game on.” Changkyun said with a wicked laugh before running upstairs with Hyungwon hot on his devils tail.
~~
The house was much scarier than you expected it to be. It might not have been that bad if it weren’t for the fact that Minhyuk was trembling with fear everywhere the two of you went. You’d searched the kitchen and the dining room together. The pair of you clung desperately to each other with every step you took down in the basement. You were sure if the chalice had been down there you’d missed it. The only thing you were focused on while you were down there was getting back upstairs and Minhyuk had been much worse off than you. He made you search the study by yourself while he stood by the door holding a shaking flashlight in your general direction. The pair of you passed by Shownu and Jooheon on the way to the sitting room and the sun room on the opposite side of the house.
Once you were sure you’d been to every room downstairs you went upstairs. In the children’s room, instead of the chalice you found a dust covered, wooden toy airplane. When you showed it to Minhyuk he screamed and for several minutes you were certain he was going to cry. Then, walking across the hall from one bedroom to another, a toy ball rolled passed your feet and Minhyuk swore he heard a child’s laughter. Though the whole situation made your chest tight with fright, part of you was also sure that Changkyun had something to do with it. Especially since you hadn’t seen him or Hyungwon the entire time you’d been upstairs.
The two of you were headed to the master bedroom next. Minhyuk was a few feet in front of you. He passed by an open bedroom door without a second thought but a quiet whistling from the room caught your attention. You’d looked everywhere in the small room, and were standing nervously in front of the closet when Minhyuk called your name from down the hall. You turned to call back to him but when you opened your mouth a hand slammed down against your lips. Screaming into the hand, you were dragged backwards into the closet and the door closed in front of you.
“God, Y/n, stop screaming.” Changkyun whispered against your ear and spun you around.
“What the hell, you scared the fuck out of me.” you hissed as your eyes started to adjust to the darkness.
“All of the fuck?” he grinned, “Not even a little fuck left for me?”
“Apologize,” you whispered, sliding your hand from his chest to his hip, “maybe then I can find a fuck for you.”
He leaned in and dragged the tip of his nose from your throat to the base of your ear and whispered back, “I’m sorry I scared you.”
You hummed in pleasure, “Oh, look, I think I found one.”
“Mm, that’s good.” he said before leaving kisses along your neck, pulling the soft skin between his teeth until you were groaning. You squirmed beneath his hands as they pinned your hips against the wall.
“Kiss me for real.” you whined. He lifted his face to yours and let you pull his lips between yours. You kissed him for a full minute before you realized he wasn’t kissing back. “What? What’s wrong? Why aren’t you kissing me?”
He cupped your face in his hands with a smile, “Nothing’s wrong.”
“Okay, then kiss me.”
He leaned in again, this time pressing his lips against yours in a true kiss. His tongue slipped between your teeth and you pulled his hips closer, practically slamming them into yours. He kept you pressed against the old, dirty wall of the bedroom closet until your lips were sore and swollen and you weren’t sure which tongue was his and which was yours. When he finally pulled away, he kept his eyes on you for a moment as you caught your breath.
Then he pressed a sweet kiss against your forehead and smiled, “We had fun right?”
“What? Why did you say it like that? Had?” you asked confused.
“That was our last kiss, kiddo.” he said as if it was just any ordinary conversation.
“What?”
“Jooheon is going to ask you out later.”
“What?”
He chuckled, “You should say yes. He likes you, is in love with you, likes you.”
“What?”
He grabbed your face in his palms, “Please stop saying what.”
“Um,” you looked at him trying to process but not being able to, “What?”
“Jooheon, you remember him?” he asked. You nodded, “He’s in love with you. He’s going to ask you out on a date. A real date, not just you two being besties like you’ve always been. I really think you need to say yes. I think you want to say yes. He really wants to be with you and you deserve that.”
“So...what does that mean, you don’t” you asked feeling a little hurt.
“Oh baby girl, I don’t want to be with anyone. I’m just having fun and we did that, right? You had fun?”
“Yeah, I guess so.”
He frowned seeing how upset you were, “You want more than secret rendezvous every once in awhile. I’m not totally clueless. I know you’ve been wanting more from me for awhile now.”
“I guess I was the clueless one.” you sighed.
“No” he said, “what I do just isn’t for everyone. You deserve more. You deserve real dates where you go out to dinner and then get ice cream after. You deserve sleepovers that end in you falling asleep together on the couch while the movie is still running. You deserve someone that’s going to drag you around everywhere and tell anyone who’ll listen that you’re his girl, because nothing makes him more proud than being with you.”
A small smile found its way to your lips, “Honey.”
“Exactly.” Changkyun smiled.
“You really think he loves me? I mean, I know he loves me like a best friend but…”
“He would not be trembling his way through this dark abandoned home on Halloween night, if it wasn’t for you. He would do anything for you and he’d do it because he loves you. Loves you loves you.” He shook his head as if amused, “You love him back, you know. There’s nothing you wouldn’t do for that delicate little man.”
“What if it’s not supposed to be like that. What if it ruins our friendship?” you bit your lip.
“You would never let that happen, either of you.” Changkyun said with certainty, “You’ll never let him out of your life, and he’ll never let you out of his. Even if things go horribly wrong, which I guarantee they won't, you two are going to have each other forever.”
~~~
It wasn’t totally clear how long you’d been in that closet with Changkyun but you knew it had probably been too long. Minhyuk was nowhere to be found upstairs and you immediately felt horrible having left him alone for so long. You had run into Hyungwon who asked if you’d seen Changkyun and you gave a vague response about him maybe being in the master bedroom before heading downstairs again.
Your flashlight had gone dead just before you’d run into Hyungwon, so you were pretty desperate to find your partner. The way down the stairs was slow going as you cautiously felt for each step before moving forward. Midway down the light from a flashlight hit you in the face. You squinted, unable to see who was coming up the stairs.
“Hey!” Jooheon grabbed your arms looking panicked, “Where were you?”
“I was just searching upstairs. What’s wrong? Are you okay?” You asked concerned.
He dropped his hands to his sides with relief, “We ran into Minhyuk, he said he lost you. I’ve been looking everywhere for you. I was so worried. Where’s your flashlight?”
“Oh...it died. You were worried about me? You searched a dark abandoned house for me all by yourself?” You grinned.
“Well...yeah. I just, I didn’t want you to be alone or get hurt or something.”
I wasn’t,” you paused, he didn’t need to know you weren’t exactly alone, “I was okay. Thank you for coming to find me though.”
You looked over your shoulder at the sound of footsteps on the stairs and nodded at Changkyun as he passed the two of you, Hyungwon following close behind. You watched him all the way down the stairs and into the dinning room before looking back at Jooheon. He looked from you to where Changkyun has disappeared and then back again.
“You were alone, right?” He asked quietly.
“Mostly…”
He bit his lip nervously as he looked up at you, “Do you want to be with him?”
“Be with who?” You gulped.
“Kyun. Are you into him?”
A small smile spread across your lips, “No, actually I think I might be into someone else.”
“Oh.” His shoulder fell with disappointment. “You never told me about anyone new. Usually you tell me that kind of stuff.”
“He’s not really new. I’ve known him for awhile.”
Jooheon’s face creased in confusion, “Who do you know that I don’t know?”
“I never said you didn’t.” You laughed.
“Someone we both know and it’s not Changkyun?” He asked. You could see the gears turning in his mind. “Oh god. Please tell me it’s not Minhyuk.”
“I found it!” Hyungwon screamed, running into the foyer holding the golden chalice high above his head. “We win!”
“Noooooo!” You could hear Minhyuk whining before you saw him tear into the foyer from the opposite hall. “Where?!”
“Kitchen.” Changkyun was leaning against a post, you hadn’t even seen him stroll in after Hyungwon.
“We looked there!” Minhyuk spun around the room with his flashlight until he spotted you under the beam of light, “Didn’t we look there, y/n?”
You blocked the light from your eyes with your hand, “Yes, Min.”
“Well not good enough. Haaaaah!” Hyungwon laughed as Minhyuk chased after him through the foyer, grabbing for the chalice.
“Hey!” Shownu shouted from the balcony, the light from his phone illuminating his face, “Kihyun and Hoseok are already at the diner for breakfast. They want us to meet them there.”
Finally gathered together once more the whole group took off together, back down the avenue of trees. Dawn was coming and what once was pitch black was now a muted gray. Everything looked a little different in the soft light. You turned around and looked back at the old house, it didn’t look very threatening at all.
Changkyun had thrown his arm over your shoulder, in what you knew was now simply the action of a good friend. Though Jooheon didn’t and he pouted as he walked with Shownu behind the two of you. With a yawn you wondered how Minhyuk had the energy to chase Hyungwon down the sidewalk, still desperate for the golden chalice.
Hoseok and Kihyun met the group outside of the twenty-four hour diner looking a little worse for the wear. Hoseok was half asleep and stumbling drunk as you made your way inside. The group packed into two red vinyl booths.
Jooheon looked up from his plastic covered menu at you in surprise as you slipped into the booth next to him. “Wouldn’t you rather sit with your boyfriend?”
“Who? Changkyun?” You asked, pulling the menu between the two of you so you could read it too. “I thought we cleared that up. I like someone else.”
“Yeah but you never said who. Are you going to tell me?”
You opened your mouth to say something and he watched you wide eyed with anticipation. However the waitress had arrived for drink orders, giving you a second chance to avoid the question. It wasn’t that you weren’t going to tell him, just that you enjoyed the frustrated look on his face, it was too cute to resist.
When the waitress left to get the drinks, instead of telling him what he wanted to know, you engaged with Kihyun who was sitting across from you in a very serious discussion about what to order. You couldn’t decide between dinner and breakfast. In the end you did what you always did. Jooheon would get breakfast and you would get dinner and then you’d split your meals.
“Did you have fun at least?” You asked Jooheon as the waitress came around with your food. “It wasn’t that bad was it?”
“No, not as bad as I expected.” He sighed as he separated his meal into two. “It was fun. I scared Hyungwon once, did I tell you?”
“No! You didn’t!” Laughing at the thought, you put half of your cheeseburger on his plate. “I’m so happy you had fun, Honey.”
“I’m sorry you didn’t win.” He said quietly
You grinned, “Oh it’s okay. Maybe next year.”
“Next year?!” He asked in an instant panic.
“Yeah. It’ll be better. We’ll just make sure we get to be partners next time.”
“You’d want to be partners with me?” He asked genuinely surprised, “I thought you were going to have a boyfriend by next year. Whoever this secret guy is that you like probably likes you back. If you’re dating then he’ll want to be your partner and I’ll get stuck with someone else.”
“Well, do you?” You asked grabbing a piece of bacon from his plate.
“Do I what?”
You looked across the table where Hoseok and Kihyun had passed out on one another, their food left almost completely untouched except for a french fry hanging from Kyihuns mouth.
“Do you like me back?” You asked.
“Yeah of course I like you back I-“ his eyes went wide when he realized that you meant. “Me? I’m the guy you’re into?”
“The one and only.” You were sure you’d never seen his dimple get so deep he was smiling so big.
“I want to kiss you.” He said, eyes sparkling.
“Wait, there’s something I want to tell you first.” You felt nervous, but telling him about Changkyun seemed like the right thing to do. If you were really starting this you wanted to start it the right way. “Kyun and I were…”
“I know.” His smile dropped slightly but he shrugged, “I’ve known for awhile, you guys were pretty obvious.”
“Why didn’t you say anything?” You asked grabbing his hand beneath the table subconsciously.
“I wanted you to want to tell me. I wanted you to be happy. It was hard being around you two, poorly hiding flirtatious looks.”
“I’m so dumb. I’m so sorry.” You whispered as you thought back at the last few months realizing Jooheon had almost never spent time with you and Changkyun together.
“Kyun figured it out. He asked me the other night and I told him the truth. That I’m in love with you.”
Your eyebrows shot up but you weren’t sure you were entirely surprised. “Honey…”
“Kyun told me to ask you out, he said you were… that you might… maybe...possibly.”
“I’m in love with you too.” You laughed, ending his small suffering of trying to avoid asking you if you loved him back. “I think I was in some denial but Kyun showed me the light.”
“He did?” Jooheon seemed genuinely shocked when you nodded, “well what do you know, Satan himself thinks we should be together.”
“Who are we to deny him?” With a small smile you leaned over and pressed a kiss against his dimpled cheek.
He covered his face with his hand shyly. “Aish, not in front of everyone!”
You laughed at the cute way he blushed, “You’re the one who wanted to kiss me!”
“Still do...” he grinned and lifted his hand to the back of your neck pulling you in for a sweet first kiss.
Top Chef (Rival!Kihyun)
Requested by @softhaos (ily)
Pairing: Kihyun x Reader
MASTERLIST
A/N: Nothing like a good old rivals-to-lovers au, am I right? Also, sorry not sorry for the gif I know its older but wow
Tumblr media
You had met him in culinary school.
The two of you were always at the head of the class. Everyone felt the competition radiating from the both of you. No matter what was going on in class, the two of you were always aiming to be better than the other. It was a rivalry for the ages. And, even after you both had completed culinary school, the two of you were still competing with each other.
You had declared Yoo Kihyun as your mortal enemy.
You didn’t think you would ever see him again after you both went your separate ways. Every now and again you’d be reminded of him and you would scoff. You had always thought he was so egotistical and annoying. He would always try and “one-up” you and he would brag about all his successes. You never wanted to see him again.
You didn’t expect to see him so soon, however.
You had been called in for a job interview at a new up and coming restaurant. They were going to open in a few months and they were in need of a head chef. They specified that only one person could get the job, so you had to make sure that you were extra prepared. You were confident you were the best person for this job, so you practiced and practiced until the day of the interview.
You walked into the empty restaurant in your professional attire, recipes memorized, and confidence that wouldn’t quit. You were determined to get this job so that if you ever saw HIM again you could rub it in his face. You were all smiles and swagger until you saw who else was waiting for the interview.
It was none other than your rival himself.
You groaned audibly, causing him to turn his head towards you. You saw him roll his eyes and groan as well as you walked over slowly, taking the chair right across from him.
“I can’t believe you’re here,” you heard him mumble under his breath. You could feel the anger bubbling up inside you.
“Well, they called for an expert chef, so I really don’t see why you’re here,” your retorted quickly. You saw him glare at you with an unmatched fury.
“Well at least they know that I have talent. They are probably just going to use you to make me look better,” he snapped.
“Oh, you wish. I think its the other way around, asshole,” you snapped back.
The two of you scoffed angrily at each other before you both turned your heads away. The two of you waited in silence, you bouncing your foot in frustration. You didn’t know how long had passed until you heard the kitchen door open, with two other chefs walking out to sit at a table farther away. The owner called your name and you stood to head into the kitchen with a smile. Only, moments later, you heard Kihyun’s name called as well.
Turns out, the two of you would be interviewing at the same time.
The two of you stood in front of the table that was set up in the massive kitchen as the owner sat down. He asked the two of you some of the basic questions while looking at your resumes. You answered everything with ease, proud and confident in your skills. However, Kihyun had also answered with the same amount of confidence.
You hated to admit it, but you actually were a little impressed at how calm he was despite facing up against his biggest rival, aka you.
Once the question part of the interview was over, it was time to test your cooking skills. The owner asked the two of you to each make your best appetizer, main course, and dessert for him to taste test. He told you where all of the supplies were and then released you two to begin cooking.
You and Kihyun immediately sprinted for the pantry to get ingredients. You tripped over yourself and stumbled a bit before you settled yourself, gathering everything you need. You could have sword for a second you heard Kihyun mumble “are you okay” before the two of you raced back to your cooking.
The two of you prepared your meals in total silence, completely focusing on outdoing one another. However, you couldn’t help but gaze over every now and again to admire him. You hated to admit it, but Kihyun had always looked...different when he was cooking. It was like someone completely different had taken his place, someone you could actually find yourself being attracted to...but you would never admit that to anyone.
You had no idea that at the same time, Kihyun thought the same about you. If he was being completely honest with himself, he actually had had a crush on you since culinary school. He would never admit it, but he actually thought that you were an excellent chef, to the point where you might actually be better than him. He admired you from afar as you cooked, happy that if he was going to compete against anyone, he was glad it was you.
After a few hours of cooking, the both of you finally completed all of your dishes. You both presented them to the owner, and stood and watched as he took a taste out of all of them. He silently nodded at every dish, giving neither of you any inclination as to whether or not he liked it. After he finished tasting the last dish, he excused you both to the dining hall where you would have to wait for his verdict.
You and Kihyun exited the room one after the other, both of you still with a confident stride. However, both of you were nervous beyond all belief. Neither of you had any idea how the owner liked your food, and you hated it.
“Well, that was weird,” you heard Kihyun mutter as the two of you sat down at the same place you had earlier.
“Yeah, I was so sure he would have made it known that he liked my food better,” you chuckled. Kihyun laughed sarcastically in response.
“Oh, I’m sure,” he sneered light-heartedly. The two of you shared a chuckle before you fell silent. The two of you sat there looking at the floor for a few minutes before you spoke up again.
“Sorry for nearly falling on you,” you muttered to him.
“Its fine...didn’t impede on your cooking skills,” he murmured.
“Wow, Kihyun, that almost sounded like a compliment,” you joked. You could see a small flash on his face.
“Yeah, well, don’t get used to it,” he responded.
That’s when the owner came out of the kitchen. Everyone who was there for the position stood up to hear the results. He took a breath before announcing...
that neither of you would be the head chef...
They picked someone else that had come in that day, one of the people who had gone before the two of you.
You and Kihyun were absolutely dumbfounded.
“I need a drink,” he groaned.
“Can I join you,” you asked. He nodded, and the two of you grabbed your coats and headed out.
A few minutes later, the two of you were sitting at a bar, silently sipping on your drinks and contemplating your places in the universe.
“I just can’t believe it,” you spat.
“I know,” he agreed. You were not even going to bring up the fact that this was probably the first time
“I mean, even you did a better job i’m sure. I know those dishes you made are your specialty too,” you spoke.
“Really? You noticed?” he asked.
“Well...yeah...I mean we did go to culinary school together...” you trailed off.
“I guess you’re right...and I thought you did pretty well too...” he told you.
The two of you drank in silence for another minute.
“You know, I don’t hate you...” Kihyun started.
“What?”
“I don’t hate you. I know we had this whole rivalry thing going on, and you think I’m an asshole, but I have never actually hated you.”
“I’m so confused...” you sighed into your drink.
“I always thought you hated me because you were always so snippy with me. You always wanted to beat me in everything...honestly, I didn’t like you all that much at first, but I realized that you gave me a challenge, and that made me want to be a better chef...so I don’t hate you...I want to thank you.”
“You want to thank me for being an ass?”
Kihyun chuckled.
“I want to thank you for giving me that challenge. I would have quit culinary school because it would have been too easy. You gave me reason to stay. So...thanks.”
You were shocked. You had no idea that he felt that way...
“I guess since we are a little drunk and we’re being honest, I have to come clean,” you started. “Even though I didn’t like you at first, I realized that you actually were not that bad. I also appreciated that you gave me a challenge, and in all honesty, I actually really admired your perseverance. Usually when I challenge people, they get annoyed and they give up. You stuck with it. So, thank you for being there, at least.”
Kihyun held up his glass for you to toast.
“To not hating each other,” he toasted, the two of you clinking your glasses together before taking a big sip of your drinks.
“Do you remember that one chef we worked with? The pastry chef?” he asked you.
“The one that smelled like cheese or the one with the out of this world mustache?”
“No, the one who told us that baking was the key to the soul and that we each had to become our inner artists and let our sugary goodness break forth to clear the darkness away from the world.”
“OH, that one! Yeah! Man, they were crazy,” you laughed.
The two of you reminisced about the crazy people you had worked with before, and even laughed over some of your mutual shortcomings. The two of you even discussed what you wished to do with your skills as culinary artists. You hated to admit it, but you were beginning to like Kihyun more than you realized.
“I’ll make you a deal,” he started. “When we both have jobs as big time chefs or whatever we end up doing, we go out and celebrate.”
“I’ll do you one better. Whenever we end up at the same job interview and neither of us get picked again, we go out for drinks and wallow,” you joked.
“Sounds good to me,” Kihyun laughed at your offer. The two of you clinked your glasses together again and finished off your last drinks. “All though, I would like to see you again before then.”
“Wait...really?” you asked him, surprised.
“Yeah...looks like we both could use some touch ups on our skills. How about we get together and cook sometime?” he asked, eyes on the floor.
“I’d like that,” you smiled.
The two of you exchanged phone numbers before exiting the bar. In the time that you had been in there, it had gotten much darker, and you were tired from the interview and the drinks. Kihyun called you a cab and helped you in.
“Get home safely, okay?”
“I’ll do my best.”
The taxi pulled away from the curb, and you couldn’t stop the smile that spread on your face. Kihyun, who waited for another cab, couldn’t help but do the same.
Even though neither of you became the top chef that day, you had gotten something far more valuable - each other.
Rivals-to-Lovers: Yoo Kihyun
Anonymous said: “Ooh gotta slide in here while requests are open!! Kihyun and you are rivals in everything, but you've secretly harboured feelings for him? Almost friends to lovers, but enemies first haha hope that makes sense”
A/N: lmao sliiide away! I’ve never done a friends/enemies-to-lovers before but I hope this turned out okay! (it was fun to do I might do more of these if I have time heehee)
Warnings: some swearing
Kihyun | Fluff | High school AU | 1643 words
Tumblr media
Yoo Kihyun is one of those annoying little teacher’s pets who always strives to come top at everything
But then again, so are you
You guys are in the same homeroom class and your classmates find it amusing whenever the two of you clash
“Oooh, they’re at it again!”
“I got ten bucks on Yoo!”
The two of you are almost always at each other’s throats, arguing about almost anything
Nominations and voting for class representatives was an intense time
As usual, you and Kihyun had tied for the most votes
But Kihyun had teased that you only got pity votes
“Kiss my ass, Yoo Kihyun!”
“Aw, don’t you wish,” he replied with a wink, while you scoffed and pretended to retch
Your homeroom teacher just sighed. “Stop it, you two. We can have two representatives. That’s how it’s always been.”
You stuck your tongue out at Kihyun and he threw a scrunched up piece of notebook paper at you
The two of you are also in the same Biology, Music Theory and Japanese classes
Your Japanese and Biology teachers just sigh and roll their eyes whenever the two of you start bickering
But they can’t really complain because you both drag the class average up with your close to perfect grades
Kihyun always challenges you with anime quotes, for some bizarre reason
“ お前はもう死んでいる !”
“You’re such a fucking weeb.”
Your music theory teacher finds your rivalry endlessly entertaining, and encourages the ‘healthy competition’
“Top grade for this project gets to play their piece in our next assembly!”
You play the piano, while Kihyun is a vocalist
Your teacher always finds it hard to decide between the two of you
So you both almost always end up performing your pieces in front of the school
You’d never admit it, but the reason you’re always trying to one-up him is because you kinda have a crush on him
You think that by getting better grades and outshining him, that you would impress him
A little voice at the back of your mind keeps saying that your way of getting his attention is completely messed up, and that you should just try being nice to him
You ignore it, and constantly tell it to shut up. Who needs a healthy way of showing affection, anyway?
Fast forward to the end of the semester
Your music theory class has been working on original pieces all semester
Your recital/exam is in a week, and you pretty much have your piece nailed down
You’re staying on campus late, just practicing your piece in one of the music rooms
You start finishing up when you hear a crashing noise, followed by someone cursing
“Shit! Fuck!... OW!”
You’re pretty sure you’re the only one supposed to be in the building, so you grab a metal bar - a piece of a dismantled music stand - and you head to the source of the noise
You see the lights on in one of the other rooms, and you walk towards it cautiously
You open the door, armed with your bar, ready to start swinging
You see Kihyun, squatting on the floor, surrounded by fallen music stands
He looks at you, eyes wide, mouth agape
His eyes quickly flash to the bar in your hand
He immediately looks scared. “Wh-what are you doing?”
You feel yourself blush and put the bar behind your back
You look at the music stands on the floor. “I was just about to ask the same thing.”
Kihyun sighs. “Uh... could you give me a hand?”
You put the bar down, and start to help him tidy up
The two of you finish, and you glance at him
He looks tired, frustrated, and... worried
You bite your lip, wondering if you should say something
Fuck it, you think
“Kihyun... is everything okay?”
He looks at you, and for the first time since you’ve met him, he looks vulnerable
He sighs deeply, and sits down on the floor
You sit down with him
“My pianist for the recital broke three of his fingers during P.E today,” he says, rubbing his face
Your mouth falls open. “You mean Jooheon? What did he do?”
He gives you a tired smile. “He and Wonho were messing around with a baseball bat.”
You wince. “Ouch.”
Kihyun looks up to the ceiling. “Yeah, and now I have no accompaniment for my piece. I’m pretty much fucked.”
You bite your lip. “Hey, I don’t mean to brag, but... you do know that I’m the best piano player in school, right?”
Kihyun eyes you, regarding you suspiciously. “So...?”
“Soooo maybe I could help you out?”
Kihyun keeps looking at you. “You’d really do that?”
You shrug, in what you hope is a nonchalant manner. “Sure.”
Kihyun pauses for a little bit. Then he stands up and reaches for his backpack. He rummages around in it, and pulls out a few pieces of paper.
“Here,” he says, handing you the sheets.
You look at it, and they’re music sheets. The ones for Kihyun’s original piece
“Cool,” you say, flicking through them. “I’ll practice these when I get home tonight and we can practice together tomorrow.”
You look up from the sheets and you see that Kihyun is staring at you with an odd look on his face
He swallows. “Thank you so much. You don’t know how much this means to me.” He sounds like he’s about to start crying
“Uh, it’s okay. Really.” You wouldn’t know how to handle it if he did start crying
He shakes his head, as if to snap himself out of it. He fishes something out of his bag and holds up his keys
“Come on, I’ll drive you home.”
For the next week, you and Kihyun stay on campus extra late to practice both your pieces
He buys you coffee every single time you meet and drives you home to make sure you get home safe after every practice session
Your sessions with him are magical, and you’re amazed by his incredible vocals
His piece is beautiful, and you’re honored to be able to play it with your own fingers
The first time you played it, Kihyun had looked at you in awe.
“You’re able to play it better than Jooheon!”
You roll your eyes and grin. “Of course, what did you expect?”
The two of you continue your daily practices, and each day, your feelings for him get stronger
If you weren’t so completely sucked in by the music, you would be mesmerized by Kihyun himself
You try to ignore the thought gnawing at the back of your mind
Ask him out, just ask him! Ask him out, ask him-
You shove the thoughts away, and remind yourself that you need to focus on your recital first
The day of the recital comes, and you’re nervous
Not for your own piece, but for Kihyun’s
You know your piece and could play it in your sleep, but if you mess up Kihyun’s, you could mess up his grades
You finish your own piece flawlessly, and your teacher, the examiners and the audience clap politely. Your teacher beams at you and gives you two enthusiastic thumbs up
You head back to one of the practice rooms where Kihyun is waiting
He looks calm and collected, and you wish you could be the same
Together, you head to the auditorium and wait backstage until Kihyun is called to perform
You don’t realize, but you’re rubbing your hands roughly, and cracking your knuckles loudly
Kihyun looks at you and grabs your hands
“Hey, it’s okay. Calm down,” he whispers, holding your hands. “You’ll be great.”
Your heart feels like it’s about to come out of your throat. Kihyun has done the exact opposite of calming you down.
The two of you finally get on stage. You take your seat at the piano again while Kihyun takes his spot behind the microphone stand
He introduces himself, then you. He then gives a short introduction on the piece
You start playing, and your worries immediately melt away. The music takes you away, and you close your eyes, playing along to Kihyun’s vocals
You start to realize that for the first time, the both of you are completely in sync. It feels great to be playing while he sings, and your fingers do the work, your mind completely in bliss.
Soon, the piece is over, and you kind of feel sad
You open your eyes, and you hear the thunderous applause of the audience
Your teacher stands from her seat and yells “Bravo!”
Kihyun holds his hand out towards you, and you give a small bow
Kihyun is beaming widely, and the smile is still on his face when you two head outside
He stretches his arms up to the sky and groans. “Finally! I can sleep easy tonight.”
You stand there, fiddling with your fingers nervously. You’re doing it. You’re finally going to confess
Kihyun looks at you and smiles. Before you can say anything, he speaks.
“Hey, go out with me tonight.”
You stand there, mouth open. He had beaten you to your confession
“Kihyun... I-what?”
He grins at you. “I like you, and I was wondering if you wanted to go out with me tonight.”
You cover your face with your hands. “God! I was going to ask you out first!” You groan, frustrated
Kihyun stares at you. “Does... does everything have to be a competition?”
You peek at him from behind your fingers, and he puts an arm around your shoulders, laughing
“This is one thing I can say I genuinely beat you at,” he says with a wink. “But I have to admit, you basically own my ass for getting me a better grade than you.”
Part 3
It was the slowest night you had worked in weeks. Your boss had only scheduled you and Kihyun to work, knowing full well that the restaurant would not be busy. The two of you kept to yourselves the whole night, too busy trying to handle the customers you did have. Through the night, he kept passing glances to you when he went past. He seemed angry and maybe even a little bit sad. As the night began to slow, and the last of the customers left the building, your confusion peaked.
He refused to talk to you, and if you tried to start a conversation, he would walk away. You grew annoyed, furious about him ignoring you at any possible chance he got. He walked by you, carrying a few plates to take to the dishwashers. You had waited to stop him until everyone was gone.
He looked down at you, imposing a fake glare when your eyes met. “What are you doing, Y/N?” Kihyun asked, rolling his eyes as he said it. “I want to know why you’re pissed at me.” You cut straight to the point.
He laughed fakely, putting the plates he had been holding on a table behind him. “What makes you say that I’m mad?” He questioned, crossing his arms.
You furrowed your brows and shrugged your shoulders “I don’t know, maybe it’s the glaring and the fact that you’ve been ignoring me all day. Those are two huge giveaways.” You quietly snapped, hoping the kitchen staff wouldn’t hear.
“Maybe you should ask your boy toy why I’m mad, maybe he knows.” Kihyun scoffed. He unfolded his arms and ran a hand through his black hair. You were dumbfounded, he was actually mad at you for sleeping with Minhyuk.
“Are you serious? You’re jealous of Minhyuk?” You paused, overly mad now. You already knew that he was upset at you for having sex with Minhyuk, but he had no right to be this angry.
“The last I checked, you have absolutely no right to be jealous of the fact that I slept with someone.” Kihyun sighed, knowing that you were right. He truly wasn’t allowed to be jealous, not when he was in a relationship.
“Now you’re realizing that you can’t act like my best friend all the time and be mad that I slept with someone.” You said, watching as Kihyun began to laugh.
“You think I’m jealous because you’re my friend?”
On the second thought, the second it left your lips, you knew he was jealous for entirely different reasons.
“Y/N, I’m jealous because while I was with Liza, all I could think about were your screams and how I wished I caused them.” He groaned, regretting saying it.
Your face fell and your cheeks flushed crimson. “I slept with Minhyuk to make you jealous, though I never thought you would ever be…” You trailed off, Kihyun’s demeanor changed. He tensed up and quickly came up to you.
He pulled your head to his, taking a quick pause for a breath before his lips were on yours. He backed you into the nearest table, leaning into you so your thighs were pressed into the empty table. You moaned when he deepened the kiss. This kiss was not like others you had. The others had always been slow, almost lazy. This one was full of drive and passion and there was a burst of energy behind it. You pressed your tongue against his mouth, asking for him to open up.
Once he did, your tongues glided over each other, sending just an extra amount of shock through you. You began leaning back. He held onto you as he pressed you down on the table. You lied on the table as he grinded into you, making it painfully hard not to scream.
He ran his hands up your leg and up your torso until his hand fell on your breast. He squeezed your breast over your clothes, but it still sent pleasure through you.
“You make me crazy, Y/N.” He moaned into your mouth. He moved his lips away from your mouth and sucked under your ear, sending shivers down your spine. He fumbled with the buttons on your uniform and once he got the first three unbuttoned, he moved his mouth to rest above your chest. He moved his mouth over the top of your breast, leaving small marks all up your chest. “Did he make you feel like this?” he kissed you even more aggressively, leaving larger marks than before; ones that would stay for days.  “I hate that I want you so bad.” You whispered, causing him to stop kissing you.
“I hate how I can’t control myself around you.” He straightened his button up work shirt and moved a strand of hair away from your face. “We can’t do this.” You told him. He answered with silence, only nodding his head slowly.
“I can’t just let this go. When I see you, I can see something. Something driven by emotion and love. Though, with Liza, all I can see is sex and fighti-” You held up your finger to his lips, frowning prominently.
“Don’t do this. Not now. Let’s just get done with this shift and get home.” You fixed your shirt, hiding the hickeys, and picked up the trays he had put down a few minutes prior. You looked behind you and gave a sad smile. “We can’t do this to Liza.” You said before going back to the kitchens.
When the two of you arrived home at a quarter to twelve, Liza was on the couch, munching on a bag of popcorn alongside Minhyuk. “Hey babe, how was work?” Liza asked from the other side of the living room. She completely ignoring your entrance into the apartment. You bowed your head and instantly retreated to your room.
Liza looked to Minhyuk, confused. Minhyuk nodded his head once before retreating after you, seeing what your problem was. He entered without knocking. You had expected him to come through, so you sat on your bed, leaving a space open for him. “Okay, Y/N wh-” you cut him off, mid sentence. “Kihyun and I made out.” You watched as Minhyuk’s face fell. He hadn’t been expecting this to come from your mouth.
“What? When? Where?” The questions flooded from Minhyuk as he desperately tried to get the story from you.
“He was acting angry with me so I confronted him. Turns out he was insanely jealous of you and how we slept together. He also confessed his feelings towards me and the next thing I knew, we were making out on top of a table at work.”
Minhyuk’s mouth opened in shock, but a slow smile reached his face. “That’s actually kind of sexy...what’s he going to do about Liza?”
You sighed “We’re not going to talk about what happened tonight. We can’t do that to Liza. Maybe it’ll just pass and we can both get on with our lives, pretend like we didn’t do that.” Minhyuk laughed, patting you on the shoulder “Sweet sweet Y/N, these things don’t pass. The tension will get to be so unbearable that you’ll screw each other in front of everyone, or…” he found your intensive eyes to be amusing. “Or you’ll end up hating each other again.” He ruffled your hair before standing up. “Be careful Y/N.” He smiled at you then left you alone in your room.
Minhyuk hadn’t been wrong. Days went by and you could tell there was an obvious change. His attitude towards you changed. He wasn’t rude, or condescending like you had expected him to be. Instead, he found any possible excuse not to be alone with you, to get away from you completely.
Though, when you were together, accidental brushes of skin lingered longer than they should have and prolonged looks in each other’s direction. You knew he hated this distance just as much as you did. You couldn’t tell how much longer you could take it, but you didn’t want to know what would happened if you tried to reach out to him.
It seemed as if the work schedules were trying to push the two of you together. It was a Thursday night and Minhyuk and Liza were working the night shift, leaving you and Kihyun alone in the apartment. You flipped through the channels on the tv in the living room, bored out of your mind. You munched on a bag of chips in front of you, ignoring the fact that they were beyond stale. You looked up from the tv when Kihyun came out of the room. He looked to your old bag of chips and rolled his eyes. He walked over and grabbed your sleeve, pulling you up from your seat on the couch and bringing you to the kitchen
“You’re not sitting on your ass eating nasty chips all night, we might as well make dinner.” He said, turning his head to give you a soft smile. He let go of your sleeve to rustle around in the fridge, bringing out a few cuts of chicken and freshly made pasta already wrapped in plastic.
“I was saving this for dinner with Liza, put she has no interest in my cooking, just the fancy restaurants I take her to.” He shrugged setting the food on the counter and unwrapping it. “Can you grab a knife and start cutting the vegetables?” He asked, too focused on cutting the chicken to look at you.
You nodded, grabbing the cutlery and beginning to chop the fresh vegetables. You two worked in silence, occasionally speaking to given each other directions, but no other words were spoken.
The silence became too much to handle, so you decided to liven the mood. “How was your day?” You asked casually, placing the cut vegetables into a bowl to wash. “I guess it was fine.” He responded, not saying much else.
You sighed. You ran your hands through the water, mixing the vegetables along with them. Once you brought them back to the counter, you set them on a pan to dry. Kihyun stopped his own cutting and wiped his hands upon a towel next to him.
You felt your body tense when he leaned over you to grab the spices on your left. You looked up to him as he reached over you. His face seemed all too close to his, he noticed your staring and smiled. He grabbed the spices, but he didn’t go back to his station without leaving just a brush of a kiss on your lips.
He moved further away from you, meeting your eyes and shyly smiling. You were shocked. It hadn’t been your first kiss with him, yet it felt just as special. You two stared into each other’s eyes, not knowing what to do next.
The last time you two were in this position, you were in the middle of work, where anyone could have walked in. Now you two were alone in your home and your were going to have all the privacy you could ask for for the next few hours.
You grabbed his shirt and pulled him to you, crashing your lips onto his. He grabbed your hips to pull you closer. You pulled your hands through his soft hair, softly yanking it to gain a reaction from him. He moaned, pulling away from the intense kiss. “Keep doing that Y/N and I won’t hold back.” he whispered in your ear.
Kihyun grabbed a hold of the bottom of your shirt and pulled it over your head. “I was hoping they were still there.” He kissed each hickey he left, lightly. He pressed himself into your heat, hoping to relieve some of the obvious tension in his groin. You sucked in a breath deeply. Kihyun reached behind you to lift you up, making sure he placed his hands firmly on your ass.
“We don’t have to go further if you don’t want to.” He whispered, making sure you were okay with going on. You kissed him “Fuck Kihyun, take me. Take it all.” He groaned.
In an instant he was leading you to your room, throwing you on your bed once you made it there. He pulled off his t shirt and jeans, leaving him in only his now tight underwear. He looked at your body, realizing that you were just in your bra and pants. He shook his head “Now that’s not fair.” he began to slide your pants off, revealing that your lacy green underwear matched your bra. He grinned and ran his hands over your entire body. “Why the hell are you this beautiful, Y/N.?” He groaned, laying kisses everywhere he could. He trailed wet kisses down your stomach, he only stopped when he reached the top of your panties.
His eyes looked up to yours, looking for that signal to continue going. You nodded once and his mouth secured around the tip of the underwear, dragging them down with proficient speed.
He whisked the soaked panties away into some mysterious area in the room. You probably wouldn’t find them again for weeks. Kihyun gently ran a hand up your thighs, spreading them apart even more than they already were. The man repeated the same action with his tongue, gliding it up your thighs and towards your throbbing heat.
He was slow to eat you out. He made sure he tasted every single part of you. Up and down your folds, causing such pleasure that you couldn’t hold it. “Scream for me babe.” he called to you. He went back to eating you out, quickening his pace when he heard your screams get louder. He too moaned, causing much needed vibrations against your clit. You screamed out, knowing that your orgasm was just seconds away.
Once the sense of euphoria washed over you, you screamed his name as loudly as you could, causing him to slap you on the ass. Kihyun chuckled, rubbing the area on your ass soothingly. “I am going to fuck you so much better than Minhyuk ever did.” He latched himself to your neck again. “I’m going to fuck you so hard, that you won’t be able to walk, and everyone would know that it was me”
His words only edged you on further, you gripped the sheets and held on to them as tightly as you possibly could. Kihyun pulled away from your neck and pulled his underwear down his legs, his already firm erection popped out excitedly.
He pumped himself a few times before he slid himself up and down your core, teasing you unlike anyone had done to you before. “Don’t be afraid to scream for me,” Kihyun said before he pushed himself into you without any prior warning.
You were nowhere near afraid to scream out for him. It was painful at first, you weren’t used to someone his size, at least not for a very long time. He gave you a few, long moments to adjust to the feeling of him being inside you. Of course he didn’t do this without some teasing. He waited until you were squirming beneath his hold.
“Kihyun, I swear to god if you don’t start moving…” He groaned, unable to wait much longer. Kihyun chuckled lowly before he started moving in and out of you. He started off slowly, careful not to hurt you in the first few minutes, but as you became more comfortable with the feeling, his pace quickened.
He grunted loudly as he began to pounded into you roughly, not holding back like he was just moments before. You felt yourself unfold in his hold. This was exactly what you imagined it to be but better.
You pulled Kihyun’s face down to kiss him hastily. They were flimsy, uncoordinated kisses that were caused by his thrusts. “Fuck,” you groaned against him. He was pushed you against the headboard, unknowingly going as hard as he could.
His breaths became heavy, he was panting and you couldn’t find it any more attractive. He held on to the top of the headboard with both hands as he grinded against you. Both of your highs were coming and he knew it. He went rougher. His moans and your moans collided, causing you to scream out.
He thrusted into you a few more times before he sucked in a deep breath. “I’m going to cum,” he whined, still going hard. You nodded and held on to his waist. “Me too,” you clamped your eyes just and waited for your high to come.
You screamed his name when it did. Kihyun pulled out of you with a satisfying pop and rolled over onto his back. He moved his hand around on the bed until he found your hand. He clasped it firmly and ran his fingers lightly over the tops of your knuckles.
“Now can we talk about us?” He asked quietly, still recovering from his orgasm.
You shook your head and leaned down to kiss his cheek. “In a bit, I’m going to take a shower.”
He sighed and got off the bed to find his discarded clothing. “I’ll be out here.” He said before you went into the bathroom.
When you got out of the shower, you walked to the living room. Kihyun was sitting on the couch, dressed in a thin t-shirt and a pair of sweatpants. You walked to him and he pulled you on the couch next to him, wrapping his arms around you tightly once you fell on him. You tried pulling away from him, but he didn’t budge. “Kihyun, Liza and Minhyuk will be home soon, we can’t do this.” You muttered, though you relaxed in his arms. “Shh let me hold you for a few minutes. Just before we have to go back to acting like nothing is happening between us.” He whispered, playing with the strands of your wet hair that fell on his face.
You rested on top of him, laying your head on his chest to listen to his heart beat. “I’m going to break up with Liza, I can’t keep on going behind her back just so I can touch you.” He took a long breath that you could feel. “She wants me because of my money and sex. She could care less about who I am.” He rubbed your arm, the little acts only brought a small smile to your face. “And you don’t care about the money, you share my passions, and you actually care about me. I can’t go on with the fact that I’ve been falling in love with you and-” You pulled your head up. He stopped talking, turning red and averting his eyes away from yours.
“You love me?” you asked, wondering if you heard him correctly.
He sighed, nodding his head, bringing his eyes back to your own. “Yes, I have since I walked into the studio and heard your voice.”
You laughed, burying your face into his chest and wrapping your arms around him. “I love you too, Kihyun.” You whispered, shutting your eyes to drown yourself in his warmth. “I wish I had met you before I met Liza. Maybe I could have loved you sooner.” He whispered to you. You nuzzled in closer to him. “Without Liza, we would have never been able to hate each other first.” Kihyun laughed and ran his hands through your hair. “Yeah, because hating me set such a good basis for this relationship already.” He said sarcastically.
You smiled and wrapped your arms around him, “You hating me made me realize how afraid I am of that happening again. I can’t wait to be able to freely love you.” He nodded and closed his eyes peacefully, still playing with your hair and leading you into a sweet sleep.
You woke up to a slap on the arm. You rubbed your eyes groggily as another one came, they didn’t hurt, but they were obnoxious enough to wake you. You look up, Liza’s face hovered over yours. She smiled fakely and woke the man next to you the same way.
You realized what position you were in and quickly backed away from Kihyun, he did the same with you. The two of you stared up at Liza, who was now glaring at the two of you.
“Want to explain why the two of you were sleeping like that?” She asked. You turned to Kihyun, who looked to be thinking about what to say. “We were watching a movie waiting for you guys and we kind of fell asleep.” You said on the spot, though you knew she wouldn’t buy it.
“On top of each other?” She grimaced.
The two of you fell silent. Kihyun stood up and took a deep breath. “I’m leaving you.” He said sternly. Liza gasped and peered down to you, hate in her eyes. “You little bi-” She thrashed out towards you but Kihyun grabbed her arms and held her back from hurting you.
Liza pushed Kihyun away and stared at the two of you. She turned her back to Kihyun, her arms crossed. “I guess I don’t feel bad for cheating on you with Jungkook now.” She huffed. Kihyun laughed angrily and threw up his arms. “And how long have you been cheating on me with your ex?”
Liza shrugged snobbishly, “I don’t know, maybe five, six...months.” She mumbled the last part.
Kihyun rolled his eyes, “So almost the entirety of our relationship. I wanted to break up with you before I did anything with Y/N, but you would latch on to me like a leech. I wanted so badly to let you go but you were so stubborn!” He yelled, finally reaching his breaking point. Liza’s eyes began tearing up, she wiped away her tears and tried clinging to Kihyun but he nudged her away.
“I was right then, you were using me for the money and the attention I gave you. You’re a good actress, I’ll give you that.” Kihyun scolded Liza as if she were a child. “I might be using Jungkook but I do love you! Babe, I can forgive you for cheating on me and we can go back to the way things were.” Liza pleaded as if she were about to throw a temper tantrum.
You heard a laugh come from the otherside of the living room. Minhyuk leaned against the doorframe, a low scowl on his face. “Liza, we’ve known you for too long. We know when you’re being honestly and we sure as hell know when you’re lying.” He shook his head and walked towards the woman. “Hoseok told me what you were going to do to Y/N at the restaurant. He also told me about the time, last month, that you tried coming onto him. Now with Jungkook.” He grabbed Liza’s arm and pulled her towards the apartment door. “You’re a horrible girlfriend, an even worse friend, and I’m mad at myself for ever having feelings for you.”
Minhyuk brought her outside of the apartment and walked back in. He smiled cheekily at her and waved. “Think of this as your formal eviction.” He said before shutting the door.
You and Kihyun both looked at Minhyuk in awe. He merely shrugged and walked into the kitchen. “She deserved it!” He yelled from the fridge. Kihyun looked to you, a small smile on his face. This hadn’t been how he expected to finally end things with Liza, but he wasn’t entirely complaining. He reached down and grabbed your cold hand, he brought it to his mouth and kissed your knuckles gently.
“Well, Y/N, would you like to go to the studio with me? This time I have my keys.” He grinned. You smiled and nodded, it was the best thing he could have asked at this moment in time.
Epilouge
You and Kihyun stood on a stage, about a year after that, performing your first sold out concert. Soon after Liza had left, you and Kihyun had been signed to Starship Entertainment as a duo act. The hours were long and tiring but you both had each other and your love of music to keep you going. The show was nearly over and the two of you were saying your goodbyes to the fans before you sang your last few songs.
Kihyun palmed something in his jacket pocket. The other hand held his microphone tightly. “I’m stopping the concert for a few minutes to announce something.” He turned to you and smiled. You looked back, confused as to why he stopped the performance. Kihyun took an audibly deep breath. “I’m absolutely in love with the most...amazing woman.” he began.
“I’ve loved her for much over a year now...” He paused “I can’t really tell when I started loving her, it feels like it’s been since I saw her for the first time.” He beamed to himself and took out a little black box from his leather jacket. He tossed the small box up and caught it swiftly, he held it out for the audience to see. “This girl is so awe-inspiring. She’s the basis of most of the songs I write.”
You looked up to him, a multitude of emotions surrounding your mind. Was he about to propose to you in the middle of a concert, with thousands of people watching.
He turned to you, grinning happily. “I have been through so much with this woman. She even hated me at first. We’ve been through so many things in this past year that I can already tell that I can survive every year forward with her.” Kihyun walked closer to you, stretching out his arm to hand you the little velvet compact.
Full of even more shock, you took it. You hastily opened it, revealing a small golden ring, and in the center was your birthstone. “That ring can be anything you would like.” He began, taking the box from you and grabbing the ring. “It can be a signal of my love, a promise ring, an early Christmas gift…” He trailed off before saying the last phrase.
“It can even be an engagement ring, though if you’re not ready to go that far, ple-” You cut him off by pulling his face towards yours, kissing him softly, in front of everyone. Something you have never been able to do.
“Yes yes yes, a million times yes. I will marry you.” Kihyun’s face fell, but he couldn’t control his happiness.
“I didn’t expect you to actually say yes. I’m going to have to get a bigger ri-” You kissed him again, this time with more energy. “No, it’s perfect. God I love you Yoo Kihyun.” You gleaned, allowing him to slide the ring on your finger. He brought his arms around you, hugging you tightly.
The crowd erupted, causing the two of you to snap out of your love driven haven. Kihyun laughed, realizing that you were in the middle of a concert. “Shall we continue, future Mrs. Yoo?” He smirked, bring the microphone to him.
You giggled quietly “Yes we should, shouldn’t keep them waiting.” You smiled, looking back to the instrumentalists and signaling for them to continue. You looked at the ring on your finger one last time before singing again, overjoyed and filled with happiness.
On that same stage, nearly two years later, Minhyuk was an up-and-coming actor. Because of his new burst of popularity, he was asked to announce an award at a very large music award show. Ironically, he was the one announcing the award you and Kihyun were nominated for. On the exact same stage Kihyun proposed to you on, the two of you accepted your first award for the best new album of the year. As you held the award, Kihyun gave the speech.
“My wife and I are so incredibly happy that we are worthy enough to have fans like all of you. You’re the reason we make music. Though, besides our amazing fans, we would like to thank our friends Minhyuk, Hoseok, Hyunwoo, Hyungwon, Changkyun, and Jooheon. Without all of them, we wouldn’t have found each other and we would have never been able to make music. So thank you.” He nearly put the microphone down, put you took it before he could return it.
You held the award securely in your hands and took a deep breath. “We would also like to thank our future child, whom we’ll be meeting soon. You’re our future, and the reason we’ll continue with our music.” You looked up at Kihyun, who only looked back in shock, he hadn’t even known.
He brought you into a tight hug, ignoring the thunderous applause. “I love you so much” he whispered into your ear. You nodded into his shoulder, grinning happily. “I love you more.” You repeated before the two of you were escorted backstage.
i don't really wanna push you into writing something because I really do love your writing but id really like a small au (if possible!!) of changkyun from monsta x!
ive actually really missed monsta x and was thinking about enemies-to-lovers changkyun so,,,,,,,here you go ^^
changkyun was your lab partner for a bio course you took when you were just a freshman in college and since that day,,,,,,,,you have hated each other
why? oh maybe because every time you had something to say changkyun was sO SuRE his idea was better
or whenever he’d try to take down notes he’d do this annoying thing like STAND IN FRONT OF YOU so you couldn’t see the board
and for the whole semester you two were like dogs at each others necks
and ,,,, it didn’t stop outside of that classroom
like seriously if you and changkyun as much as bumped into each other it was like a parade of sarcastic comments
“oh you’re taking microbio? im taking genetics, looks like im taking the big kid class and you’re taking the kindergarten science wah wah”
“why did you bump into me asshat”
“i like your outfit.” “changkyun, you’ve never liked anything about me.” “exactly, i like it because it makes you look WORSE”
honestly,,,,,,,you two just cannot stop
and shownu or wonho always has to step in between you and be like guys,,,,please,,,,show some respect we’re still on campus
and you’d be like ill show respect to changkyun pigs f l y
and changkyun scoffs and he’s like ill show them respect when hyungwon willingly takes an advanced math class
and you just,,,tick each other off,,,,because you both know what buttons to press
so it’s no surprise that when you both end up being part of the three finalists in a scientific journals scholarship contest ,,,,,,you and changkyun are just grinning menacingly at each other like oH i saw you got in,,,,,,,,cant wait to be runner up to me again huh??? and changkyun is like don’t you mean you can’t wait to finally see how superior my brain is to yo-
kihyun like three feet away: if i spritz them with water do you think they’ll calm down?
wonho: nope, ive tried it. doesn’t work.
the eve of the contest announcing the winners you run into changkyun at the library and of course he’s refreshing the journal’s website to see the winners names
,,,,,,just like you are too
and the library technically closes at 10 but you know you’re going to stay up and so is changkyun so you both gather your laptops and you’re like “hey don’t follow me im going to the cafe near the english department.”
changkyun scrunches up his nose and is like “too bad, i thought of going there first so technically you’ll be following me.”
and like a couple of middle schoolers you end up running there to see who got there first,,,,arguing over it in front of a tired cashier who lets you both have two lattes on the house if you agree to just sit down and shut up
as midnight ticks closer,,,you and changkyun keeps looking over at each other,,,glaring and making face when fINALLY the website updates
and you look at the winners name,,,,,,,,,,and freeze
‘winner of the scholarship: nakamoto yuta. second place is tied!’
looking at you and changkyun’s names written together in smaller font,,,,,,you can’t help but swallow and turn your head to peek over at changkyun
whose doing the same and you both get up as you make eye contact
and the cashier is like oh god now what
but you and changkyun both march outside and you’re like CHANGKYUN WHAT THE HELL
and he’s like I DONT KNOW WHAT THE HELL I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE YOU OR ME
and you’re like exactly???? your paper on transitional motion was way better????? and changkyun is like your paper on genetics in ants was way better too?????/
both fuming,,,you’re standing outside the cafe in the darkness and changkyun is like “im so,,,,,,,,angry i could just do something really dumb right now.”
and you’re like wow same something really dumb like,,,,,like,,,,,,,,
suddenly you get an idea,,,,an idea you can’t believe you thought of,,,,,but also,,,,,,when you see changkyun in front of you
the same face you’d despised seeing,,,that you’d grown to instinctively react to,,,,,,,,,,why,,,,,why has it never looked more handsome to you??!?!?!
the pretty way his eyes are set,,,dark brown and yet still shining,,,,,his lips,,,,,,,,his perfect jawline,,,,,,,,,,,,,
and changkyun is like tilting his head,,,,going “something dumb like?”
“like this.”
you take a step forward, bunching up changkyun’s shirt in your fist and tugging him down to press your mouth to his
and changkyun,,,,,,,is frozen,,,,,,,but his eyes flutter close and his own hand comes to hold the back of your neck
when you pull back you’re both like,,,ahem,,,um
and changkyun is like “that was,,,,,dumb right?” and you’re like yeah,,,super dumb,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
but you can’t help it three seconds later you’re back in each others hands making out furiously with changkyun letting you pin him against the wall off the cafe
and the cashier,,,thinking you and changkyun might have killed each other opens the door and sees you and is like OH,,,,,,,o h,,,,,,,,,,oh
you and changkyun with messy hair walking back inside shyly getting your laptops and changkyun being like “we are gonna,,,,um,,,,go,,,uh,,,stu,,-st-”
you: “we’re gonna make out again. im so sorry you had to see it though, bye.” LOL
Genre: Enemies to lovers au! Roommates au! Best friend’s boyfriend au! fluff, smut, angst (Holy trinity of course)
A/N: This is the fanfic that I’ve been working on the longest. I’ve always loved the enemies to lovers concept so here’s my little twist on the idea. Thank you all for the support you’ve given my fanfics! I love you all, and remember, my ask box is always open! - Kay
Part 2
Chae Hyungwon wiped his brow of sweat, finally taking a seat for the first time in hours. He took a glance your way as you did the same. “I hate holidays” Minhyuk groaned from next to you.
“No you don’t” You said, propping your feet up on an empty chair. You looked around the now empty restaurant, it was a quarter to one and you had just now finished your shift. You couldn’t help but feel saddened, it was Christmas Eve and you were spending it inside an old restaurant waiting on large families.
You looked to your co workers, who were just as worn as you. “Anyone down for a drink?” Changkyun, who was previously lying his head on a table, perked his head up, a faint smile starting to form. “I’m in” he said, resting his head back down.
You pulled yourself up, feeling the protest of your feet from standing. “Well we should start heading out if we want to get to the bars before they close.” You said, stretching your tired limbs. You fished your keys out of your bag and started to head for the door, the boys following. There were eight waiters who worked at the restaurant, only four of you were working tonight.
Hyunwoo, Hoseok, Jooheon, and Liza were all with their families tonight, leaving those of you who didn't have plans, to work.
After-work drinks had somewhat become a custom between you and your coworkers, seeing as how you spent most of your time with one another. “I am so tired” Minhyuk slurred, resting his blonde head on your shoulder.
You felt the need to brush his head away, but he seemed so peaceful, despite being in the middle of a bar. The bar was dead, despite you and the three who followed. Changkyun sang horribly to various songs that the bartender had playing on loop. Hyungwon danced to himself in a drunken haze. And Minhyuk was now sleeping painfully on your shoulder, all while you were alert and hardly tipsy enough to forget the night.
The bartender, who was cleaning the rest of the night’s glasses nudged your other shoulder. “We’re closing soon, do you need me to call anybody to pick you sad sacks up?” You thought about it for a moment before you grabbed your phone out of your purse, waking Minhyuk up with your movements.
You lived with Liza and Minhyuk, a decision the three of you made after you found out you worked in the same restaurant. They were great roommates, you had to admit, even if they did have their flaws. Liza was messy but paid her rent on time. Minhyuk was neat and bought the food most days, but he was loud, especially at night. Though you couldn’t complain.
“Are you calling Hoseok?” Minhyuk groaned, waking up from his simple nap. You nodded. After the third dial of the call, Hoseok answered with a tired hum. “Y/N it’s two in the morning.” His voice said tiredly. You sighed “I know I know, and you’re probably at your parents. But, you’re the only one still in town that’s not drunk.” You admitted, lowering your voice.
“We’re sad and depressed because we don’t have family to go to for Christmas,” You guilt tripped him, earning a loud groan from the other side of the call. “Are you at the usual bar?” he finally asked after moments of silence. You hummed in response, waiting to hear the rest of what the man had to say. “I’ll be there in ten.” He said before hanging up.
You woke up with Minhyuk’s leg in your back. You turned over, seeing Minhyuk sprawled across your bed, his left arm dangling off the side and his mouth agape and snoring.
“Goodmorning beautiful” you groaned, pushing the foot away from your back. He sat up quickly, but instantly grabbed his head, moaning from the hangover he had just acquired. You looked down at yourself, you were still in your wrinkled, smelly clothes from the night before. You glanced behind you to Minhyuk and pointed to the door. “Out, I’m changing.”
Minhyuk stood up slowly, still gripping tightly onto his head. “I’ll make some coffee.” He mumbled, staggering out the door. You smiled slightly to yourself, feeling your own headache to start.
You grabbed an old t-shirt out of the hamper and a pair of sweatpants. It was a chilly morning, no doubt a new layer of snow had fallen during the night. You walked out of your room and into the kitchen, where Minhyuk was pouring a few cups of coffee. You looked at the table, where Hoseok sat on his phone.
“What are you doing here this early?” You asked.
Hoseok chuckled and read the time on his phone. “It’s almost noon.” He said, shaking his head. “Also, Merry Christmas you two.” He grinned, getting up to grab the coffee Minhyuk had made. “Where’s Liza?” Minhyuk asked, sipping the coffee greedily to get rid of the hangover sooner.
You took the coffee and set it beside you. “She’s at her mother’s house with her new boyfriend.” You rolled your eyes, watching as Hoseok and Minhyuk listened in closer. “When did this happen?” Hoseok asked. The boys and you were very close, but not as close as you and Liza. But as the only two girls in your friend group, the two of you bonded very quickly.
“About two months ago, she didn’t want to tell you because she was afraid you guys would freak out.” you watched as the boys exchanged glances. “Have you met him? When will we be able to?” The questions came in rapidly. You put up a hand to silence them. “I only know his name, it’s Yoo Kihyun. She said she might bring him around if we plan to do something today.” You added.
Hoseok shrugged “It’s Christmas, I think the others are coming back later tonight, maybe we can plan a late dinner.” You looked at Minhyuk, who, by his expression, seemed to be on board. “Y/N and I will get the food, Hoseok, you start cleaning up and contact everyone.” He looked at you and grinned “Come on Y/N, get into the Christmas mood, we have Christmas cheer to dish up.”
You groaned from his cheeriness but grabbed your keys and wallet anyway. “Let’s go”
Everyone had agreed to come around nine, despite having exhausting days with their families. The three of you had spent hours trying to prepare a large enough last minute meal to feed everyone. Hoseok was the one to set the table and put up hasty Christmas decorations to make it seem a little more comforting in the small apartment.
Changkyun and Hyungwon arrived together, taking a carpool from their apartment on the other side of town. They brought store bought cookies that they had so obviously just bought. Changkyun looked down at the sorry cookies and grinned, embarrassed. “They sold out of sugar cookies and oatmeal raisin was the only kind they had.” The young man excused.
Minhyuk brushed it off and took the cookies happily. “Sit down, we’re still waiting on Hyunwoo, Jooheon, and Liza.” He said, but Hoseok decided to add in. “And her new boy toy.” He laughed, watching as the others went silent. Before they could say anything else, there was a knock on the door.
You ran to go open it, revealing Hyunwoo, who was holding a couple bottles of wine. Seeing the wine you realized you had completely forgot about one of the most important parts of a party. You brought him into a hug, happy to see him. “Sorry I’m a bit late, I ran into a couple of people while I was at the store.” He looked behind him, Liza and her boyfriend walked up, nearly on cue.
You averted your attention to the new arrivals. Liza was relatively short, not much more than you were. She had straight black hair that flowed over her shoulders and dark, kind eyes. She was very beautiful you had to admit. Her new boyfriend, the man that went by Kihyun, was just as gorgeous. He had black hair that seemed to swoop just above his eyes. He had a sharp features, but even those were softened due to his kind looking eyes. You looked away to find Minhyuk’s gaze, mouthing to him to come over.
Minhyuk quickly got up to greet Liza and Kihyun. He was better with people than you were. You sighed to yourself and took the wine bottles from Hyunwoo and told him to follow you.
After dinner, the seven of you watched from the kitchen, sipping wine and talking about Liza and Kihyun as they sat in the living room watching a movie. “How long do you think this one will last?” Hyungwon whispered, taking a sip afterwards. Jooheon, who arrived just minutes prior, nudged him in the ribs. “She actually looks happy this time, don’t jinx it, asshat.” He muttered, pouring some more wine.
“Hopefully they won’t be as loud as her and Jungkook were.” You said quietly. Hyunwoo laughed dryly, watching the pair closely. “Are you jealous, Y/N?” he smirked, ruffling your hair teasingly. You shot a non serious glare his way and proceeded to fix your messed up locks. “Why would I be?” you grumbled. You looked at the bottom of the wine glass and noted that it was nearly empty, you downed the rest.
Changkyun, his always nosy self, cleared it for you. “Liza seems to always have a boyfriend and out of the three years we’ve all known each other, you haven’t had a single one.” he said. You thought about it for a moment, maybe you were a bit envious that Liza was always able to get a boyfriend, but you had never really thought about it.
You laughed it off. “If I wanted a boyfriend, I’d be able to get one quickly. I just have been too concerned about college to care.” You huffed, pushing your now empty glass towards Minhyuk. He shook his head, seeing your now flustered self.
“We’re not getting drunk again, every time we get drunk, you force me to watch some horrible chick flick and I fall asleep in your bed. Your bed is really uncomfortable.” He complained, but you pushed the glass even further. “We can watch a comedy if you fill it up.” You said, your tone was on the verge of harsh.
Minhyuk rolled his eyes, emptying the bottle into your glass. Changkyun leaned into Hoseok and whispered in his ear. “She’s cranky when she hasn’t had sex in forever.” he whispered. Hoseok only nodded his head, remembering the last time you told him about your last hook up. It had to have been around seven months. You took small sips of the wine this time, occasionally looking at Kihyun on the couch. He and Liza were talking excitedly about something and you were itching to find out about what.
They went like that for a few moments before Liza exploded from the couch and ran to you and Minhyuk from the kitchen. She grabbed both of your arms and pulled you into Minhyuk’s room, which was the closest to the kitchen.
You stared at her, shocked by the sudden outburst. She smiled widely. “What’s up?” Minhyuk asked, a little scared to find out what Liza had up her sleeve.
“So Kihyun’s roommate just moved out, leaving him short on rent.” She paused, seeing as the two of you were bracing yourself with what the girl was about to hit you two with. “What if he moved in with us? We’d all have to pay less rent and it’s more help around the house! Plus, he’d sleep in my room.” She said it quickly, like ripping a bandaid off.
“Wait, you seriously want to bring in another person to live here, just like that?” Minhyuk loosely laughed, wondering if the girl in front of him was joking. But she wasn’t.  “We don’t even know him!” He exclaimed, throwing his hands up.
You shrugged, you enjoyed the idea of paying less rent. “We could give him a test run. Have him live here for a few weeks and see how it goes” You offered, seeing as Liza’s face lit up even more. “Thank you thank you. Merry Christmas.” She cheered, running out of the room.
Minhyuk looked at you, confused. “Are you serious?” You shrugged, leaning against the wall. “I suppose, we’ll have to see how it goes though. You have to admit, having more help around here and paying less rent sounds nice. Also, he also doesn’t seem like a bad guy. You know that iit takes a lot to make Liza that happy.” You watched Minhyuk’s face realize that you were right.
“You’re right, this will be interesting.” You laughed as you walked out of his room to enjoy the rest of the party.
You hated Yoo Kihyun. No, you didn’t hate. You despised him. He had found a way into every single part of your life. You found out that he was in your Creative Writing lecture class on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You also found out that Liza had gotten him a second job working at the same restaurant that the rest of you did.  He also breathed your same air nearly every waking moment of the day.
And you hated it.
He ate your food without asking. He was slightly rude and pompous because “mommy and daddy are big and rich.” He never did laundry on time and the dishes were never done right when he did them. He was also so perfect that you hated him for every tiny little thing wrong with him.
He was an amazing singer and dancer, you also figured this out when he arrived at the same studio you practiced at on the weekends. Some how, in some weird turn of events, he was every where. Which was another thing you hated about him, he aspired to be a performer, much like your own self.
Every perfect thing about him was annoying.
You were the one who had to train him. He started work a couple weeks after Christmas and about a week after he moved in. At this point, you still couldn’t tell what kind of person he was. At first he seemed like a really nice guy, especially towards Liza. But as the days went on, you saw that maybe he wasn’t exactly the kindest man in the bunch.
He had made snide comments about the furniture and decor, claiming that it was tacky and gross looking. He would also decide to make smart ass remarks towards everything either you or Minhyuk had said.
Speaking of which, your fellow roommate couldn’t stand the other man either, especially when it came to work. He was an overachiever, plain and simple. Your bosses loved him and the customers seemed to be instantly drawn to his charisma, something that belonged to Hoseok and Minhyuk prior.
You swung around tables, delivering plates to tables one by one. When you had only three plates left on your tray, you slipped, nearly dropping the plates all over yourself. Once you got back to the kitchen, he waiting by the door, shaking his head. “Nice work twinkle toes.” He muttered as you walked passed. You rolled your eyes and continued past, ignoring him.
He had also made quite a few comments to Minhyuk about his hair color. Making blond jokes and jokes about intelligence. The jokes could have been funny, but coming from him, they seemed ignorant and rude.
You convinced yourself that he was just horrible with jokes…
You, Minhyuk, and Hoseok sat in the back, watching Kihyun work with ease. Hoseok let out an annoyed groan. Grimacing as Kihyun talked to customers with a fake smile. “I can’t believe you’re letting him living with you.” He looked to you and Minhyuk. Minhyuk shrugged, turning to you. “He’s stolen a few of my shirts, and he never does anything to help in the house.” Minhyuk now looked at Kihyun. “He plays his music really late too, I talked to him about it and he just laughed in my face.
Kihyun walked over to the table the three of you were sitting at. He looked to you and pointed to a few tables that were dirty “Maybe you should clean those instead of sitting here doing nothing.” He said, seemingly annoyed.
You opened your mouth, clearly angered. You stood up and glared at him. “I’m your superior, Kihyun, you’re still in your training days.” You snapped. Kihyun shrugged his shoulders “Maybe I would listen if you actually acted like one.” He turned towards the tables and pointed to them once more.
“They’re still dirty.” He claimed before walking towards the kitchens. You stuck up your middle finger as the man left your sight.
You hated Yoo Kihyun.
Part 2   Part 4 (End)
Kihyun and Liza’s endless fighting was the only thing you could hear in the small apartment. You and Minhyuk had come home late from work one night, exhausted and ready to go to bed. Though, your dreams of sleep were interrupted when you heard Kihyun and Liza’s screams coming from the kitchen.
“That money was going towards a new equipment for Y/N and I!” You heard Kihyun yell. Minhyuk looked down to you and outstretched his arm, not allowing you to move into the kitchen. “Let’s listen,” He winked at you and continued to listen to the couple fight.
“It’s always about ‘you and Y/N! Instead of doing things for the two of you, why can’t you do things for me? Your girlfriend?” Liza snapped back at him, her voice was shrill and furious.
Kihyun laughed. “Dammit Liza, I already give you everything you want. Remember that dress I bought you last week? Or those expensive headphones that you don’t need? I spend a fortune on you! I’m sorry a new piano or a new recording set is not in your definition of ‘being spoiled,’ but that was my money. You had no right to go and spend it.”
Liza scoffed, she folded her arms and rolled her eyes. “You still didn’t have to buy anything for Y/N. I’m you-” Liza didn’t have the chance to finish before he stormed out of the kitchen and into his room. He hadn’t even noticed that you and Minhyuk were there, listening to him and Liza’s fight.
Moments later he came out, his jacket on and his keys in his hands. He quickly looked to you and Minhyuk before he walked out of the apartment. Liza came rushing out, her face red with anger. “Liza, what did you do?” You asked her wearily.
Liza glared at you and walked into her room. Minhyuk pointed his thumb behind him, looking at you reassuringly. “I’ll go talk to Liza, you go and find Kihyun.” You nodded and ran out the door, following after him.
You knew where he was going to go. You ran down the streets of the city, it was only a few blocks away but you felt the sharp sting of the winter cold bite your face and bare arms. You realized that you had forgotten your jacket on the ground of your apartment.
You ran up to the courtyard of the studio building, where you spotted a lone figure sitting outside, hunched over with his head in his hands. You ran up to him, gasping for breath. “Kihyun!” You breathed out. You bent down and tried to catch your breath. With the mix of the cold and the running, it wasn’t an easy task.
Kihyun stood up and walked to you. “Y/N! Shit, you must be cold.” He quickly shrugged off his winter coat and placed it over your shoulders. He looked around for somewhere to go to get away from the cold.
You looked up to him. You held his jacket tightly around your body. “Why aren’t you inside?” You asked him. Kihyun sighed and held up his car keys. “I brought the wrong keys and I couldn’t get in.” He looked around and grabbed your arm and looked around, there was a little ramen shop still open, despite the time of night. He ushered you across the street, his hands never leaving your arm and the small of your back.
The warmth engulfed you pleasantly when you walked in.
The old man that ran the shop smiled to the two of you and waved you over to the counter. “It’s wonderful to see such a beautiful couple in our shop so late! Please sit down and enjoy.”
“Oh we’re not a c-” Kihyun cut you off and smiled down at you, “I’ll pay for it.” He whispered, ignoring what you were about to say. There was something about the way he smiled at you and held you so closely that made you feel warm inside.
You wished you didn’t feel anything for him. That you went back to hating his guts like you did about a month or so prior. You wished he wasn’t so kind and that he went back to treating you like shit. Maybe then you wouldn’t be falling for him.
As the two of you slowly ate your food, Kihyun told you everything.
“She took some money that I had put aside for some studio equipment for us. I had wanted to surprise you and make a grand gesture out of my gift, but Liza went and spent the money on some clothes and other useless shit she doesn’t need.” Kihyun grumbled. He took a piece of chicken from his bowl and shoved it in his mouth.
“It’s not like I don’t spend a fortune on her already! I know I can afford it but I had set it aside for particularly you and I.” He looked to you and frowned, he stuck out his arm and moved a stray piece of hair away from your face. “At times I wonder why I’m still with her if she’s only going to use me for my money and sex.”
You looked him in the eyes, he was sad, clear as day. “How much do you love her?” You voice broke, it was quiet and mousy. Kihyun took a deep breath, shaking his head. “I don’t know anymore. At first I thought that she was going to be the woman I married and now...now I’m terrified of falling for someone else.”
Your eyes grew wide, you didn’t quite understand what he was saying. Kihyun turned towards you and grabbed your hands. “We don’t have to talk about Liza right now.” He said. He took your hands and laced your fingers with his.
Only platonically you had to force yourself to think.
“My father sent our videos to a friend of his in the entertainment business. They’re willing to sign us. That’s why I wanted to buy the equipment!” Kihyun said excitedly, grabbing on to your hands tighter.
Your mouth dropped open. This was the best news you had been able to receive in weeks. “Are you serious?” You tried keeping your voice down in the middle of the restaurant, but you couldn’t contain your excitement.
Kihyun stood up and hugged you. “I know I’m ready to perform now. Thank you.” He whispered happily in your ear. He pulled away, still smiling a big, beautiful smile. He pulled out the money from his pocket and set it on the counter.
You took his jacket and wrapped it around yourself, still overjoyed from the news. You had always been musically inclined. You and your parents realized it when you were three years old and able to play the piano with ease. Your love for music had developed later in life, when it became your passion. You went to college to study music composition, but because of the few jobs it provided, you still had to work as a waitress. Now your dream was almost a reality; all thanks to the man you once hated.
Kihyun reached over and grabbed your hand. “Let’s go home.” He looked back and softly laughed. “Make sure to keep the jacket on. You look too comfortable to give it back.” He said before you left the restaurant.
Kihyun and Liza had made up, much to your displeasure. When you and Kihyun came back home, she was crying, albeit fakely. She threw herself on Kihyun and cried for him to forgive her, false tears running down her cheeks.
Kihyun didn’t know what to do other than to accept her apology, weakly telling her that everything was okay and that he forgave her completely.
The moments you spent alone with Kihyun were another story. He touches seemed to linger far longer than they should have. The side glances and the all too intimate moments that the two of you shared. They told another story that even you weren’t able to figure out. You didn’t think that even Kihyun knew what was happening.
When he was at home or at work with Liza, he was enthusiastic in their time together. Their kisses would just be quick pecks and they would hardly talk to each other when they didn’t have to.
You were standing by the doorway to the kitchen at work, monitoring your tables and waiting for them to require your assistance. You were on a shift with Liza and Hoseok tonight. It was a slower night, not many people wanted to to make the trip to a restaurant in the snow.
Liza walked up to you and gave you a lazy smile. The two of you had grown increasingly more and more distant over the past few weeks, since you had befriended Kihyun. She placed her carrying tray on a cart and stood next to you, watching her own tables.
The two of you stood in silence. You remembered when you could talk to her for hours about anything, now it seemed like there was nothing to talk about. The silence didn’t break until you heard Liza scoff under her breath.
“I know what you’re doing.”
You nodded you head and gave her a sideways grin. “And can you tell me what I’m doing because I’m very confused.”
She turned to you and glared, “You’re trying to steal Kihyun away from me. I’ve seen how you look at him. It’s obvious!” Her voice grew louder and angrier with each and every word she spoke.
You looked at her nervously but only smiled her way. “Yes, because I’m that vindictive enough to do that to you. Grow up, Liza.” You muttered. You grabbed your serving tray and looked to the last table you had waited on.
Liza grabbed your arm and yanked you back roughly. You stumbled back, not having expected her to do something like this. “Liza what the hell?”
Liza picked up her head and lowly grinned, she held up her fist and grabbed the collar of your uniform shirt. “Stay away from him or I’m going to..”
“Going to what.” Hoseok snapped, pulling her off of you. He pushed her back and straightened your shirt for you. “I suggest that you get the hell away before I tell Kihyun what you did.” Hoseok turned back to you and held your shoulders.
“Are you okay?” He asked you softly. You nodded your head, still shaken up. You took a deep breath and took your tray in your hands. “Best friends, am I right?” You joked before walking off. You wanted to keep thinking that Liza was still kind and gentle, but now you were beginning to believe that she was crazier than you ever expected.
The noise Kihyun and Liza made was finally getting on your last nerve. You shared the room next to the two, and the constant moans, groans, and screams had angered you to no end. You couldn’t tell if it was the jealousy or the sleep deprivation or probable mix of the two, but you were done.
In the middle of the night, around two in the morning, you hatched an idea to give the couple a taste of their own medicine. You got up from your bed and quietly made your way towards Minhyuk’s room, which was on the other side of the apartment.
You opened his door and rushed to his bed, shaking him until he woke. “Y/N what the hell?” He grumbled, taking a spare pillow and hitting you with it. You threw the pillow back and continued to shake his sleeping form. “Let’s have sex” you said casually, earning you an instantly awake Minhyuk.
He sat up and rubbed his ears, making sure he heard you correctly. “Wait, are you serious?” He questioned, not sure how to feel about your sudden boldness. “I mean, let’s make crazy sex noises to annoy the shit out of Liza and Kihyun. I haven’t been able to sleep because they sound like horny teenagers every night.”  You grabbed his arm and pulled it.
He laughed, going along with you. He had to admit that he actually liked the idea.
Once you got into the room you sat on your bed, motioning for Minny to do the same. “How do you sound like you’re having sex without having it?” The question was answered by the silence of thought. “I haven’t been laid in a year” Minhyuk admitted, which was surprisingly only a few months more than you. “We’re two losers in a pod” you laughed. You looked at Minhyuk, a smirk on your face. “Agh, Minny” you moaned very loudly, almost to an obnoxious extent.
Minhyuk’s eyes widened, caught off guard by your noises. “Y/N, are you serious.” He whispered, very obviously flustered by the noises. You nodded, raising your hand and motioning for him to do the same. He sighed and opened his mouth. “Do you like that?” he groaned, his face flushed red as the awkward words came out of his mouth.
The two of you went silent, hearing the couple in the next room over get louder. You looked to your best friend, who listened sadly. He turned to you and frowned. “You’ve fallen for Kihyun, haven’t you?” You let out a sigh, nodding your head. “And you’re in love with Liza.” You told him. He followed the same action, throwing his head back onto your bed.
“We’re two losers in a pod” he whispered, going silent when he heard Liza’s voice scream Kihyun’s name. You rolled over closer to Minhyuk and placed a careful hand on his chest. “We could make them jealous.” You breathed into Minhyuk’s ear. You watched the base of his neck flare up into a bright crimson hue. His dark eyes peered into yours, knowing exactly what you meant.
You knew it was the shared horniness of many months taking over. His lips were on yours within seconds, greedily devouring your mouth like a tiger. You used one hand to grab a hold of his blonde locks, the other one was used to scrape your nails against his abdomen. He hastily locked his hands around the thin t-shirt you had put on before bed.
He yanked it off. He pulled away from your lips and trailed his own down your neck. Minhyuk lightly traced your nipples with the tips of his thumbs, continuing to slowly make his way down your neck and to your chest.
His mouth eventually found its way towards your breasts. He was quick in his movements, sloppy and hasty. You wanted this so badly you could taste it, it’d been too long since you’d been touched.
Your fake moans from prior could not compare to what escaped your lips now. Minhyuk broke apart from you and grinned at you “You can be louder than that” he said, drawing his hands away from your breasts to rub the top of your now soaked panties. He smirked up to you, a completely different man from moments before. “How else are we going to make them jealous? We have to…” He paused, moving the side of your underwear away. He leaned in and licked a long strip up your folds. This sent an instant sense of euphoria through you, causing you to scream as he continued to eat you out.
The loud noises made Minhyuk happy, since he was the one causing them. He watched you squirm under him as he used his tongue to pleasure you. “Minhyuk, I don’t know how long I can last” you moaned, gripping the sheets tightly under you.
“Come on babe, not yet.” He licked you once more before unstringing his sweat pants. His erection could have practically been bulging out of his briefs. You pushed yourself up to rest on your elbows, eyeing Minhyuk palm himself through the thin layer of his underwear.
He pulled the underwear off and held himself tightly, walking towards you, smiling mischievously. “Spread your legs.” You did as he told you and spread your soaked legs. He looked down at your soaked heat “I can’t believe I did that.” He ran the tip of his erection up and down your folds, teasing you even further than before. The last thing your heard before he pushed himself into you was, “Louder.”
And that’s when you knew that the two of you won the noise competition for the night…
The morning after was painfully awkward. You were surprised that the awkwardness didn’t come from Minhyuk though. You woke up tangled in his arms. You pushed him away, much like you had done many mornings prior.
“Good morning my beautiful love.” Minhyuk cooed sarcastically. You laughed, kicking his leg once he got out of your bed. He was still naked, but the sight was nothing new to you now. Not since last night. He scanned his room for his undergarments and pants. Once he found them, he pulled them on. “You know, I had a great time last night, but I have a wife and child so I won’t be calling you back.” He joked, pulling on the oversized t-shirt he had left on the floor.
“Ha ha” you said, chucking a pillow lightly at him. “Glad to know that sex didn’t change my sweet best friend into a horny jerk.” you said, throwing your head back onto your pillows. “Do you think we made them jealous, at all?” You asked him, knowing that your weak efforts were probably for nothing. Minhyuk shrugged “Only way to find out” he said, throwing your clothes at you.
Once you were changed, the two of you walked out of your room and into the kitchen, where Liza and Kihyun were sipping their coffee quietly. You tried not laughing to yourself, noting the heavy atmosphere surrounding the two of you.
You grabbed a mug from the cabinet and poured yourself a cup of coffee. You sat across from Kihyun and Liza, noting that they tried not to stare at you and Minhyuk. “So..” Liza started off. “How was your guys night?” She asked, obviously in a better mood than she had been in lately.
You brought your hands up to shrug “It was alright I guess, wouldn’t you say, Minny?” Minhyuk nodded, unenthused. “Yeah I guess. Nothing special really happened.” He said, grabbing the coffee creamer for you and him from the fridge.
You looked up from your mug, only to see Kihyun’s eyes on you. He was expressionless, maybe even a bit sad. You looked away and focused on the coffee again. “What are your plans for the day?” Minhyuk asked Liza and Kihyun.
Liza took too long to answer so Kihyun quickly acknowledged the question. “We were going to go to brunch.” He got up and pointed to the room “Babe, want to go get ready with me now?” Liza set her coffee down and followed Kihyun into their room.
Once they were gone, you could hear Minhyuk laugh under his breath. “They don’t know what to say.” He took a sip of coffee, shaking his blond head. “Is it bad that I want them to break up already?” Minhyuk asked you.
“Not at all, or maybe we’re just bad people.” You said, bringing your cup up for him to cheer with you. He clanked his mug against yours “To the two losers in a pod.” He joked. He set the cup down, smiling mischievously. “I honestly don’t see you romantically, you’re my best friend, but God damn I wouldn’t mind having sex again.” He walked closer to you. He tilted your chin up, revealing your neck in full display. He brought his mouth down on the skin. This was slower than the night before and to give your permission to go further, you pulled his body even closer to yours.
You had to admit, you loved the fact that the two of you were both extremely sex deprived. It made having sex without the feelings so much easier. He continued kissing you, trailing his kissed up to your mouth and messily kissing you.
A few minutes into this, the two of you heard a rough noise come from behind. Minhyuk pulled away and waved to Kihyun shyly. You wiped your lips, turning to Kihyun. He glared at the two of you, much like he did when he began living with you.
“Wouldn’t you guys be better of in a bedroom? Maybe then no one will have to walk in on you and interrupt your important business.” He said snidely, rolling his eyes. He grabbed his jacket and keys from the counter next to you. “Unbelievable” He muttered towards you. He walked away, going to the door to wait for Liza.
Once they were gone, Minhyuk laughed loudly. “I think we were a little bit successful.” He nudged your ribs hard. You nodded your head, not saying anything. You didn’t want to make Kihyun jealous if it meant that you were going to lose him.
You grabbed your coffee cup and held it to your lips. You couldn’t bare the thought of Kihyun hating you again.
Part 1  Part 3
“It was one thing at home, now at work?” You chugged the drink in your glass before handing the last bit to Hyungwon, who sat next to you on the couch. “He looks like an ass.” Muttered Jooheon, who sat next to your feet on the floor.
“He’s so nice to Liza, so I don’t get why he’s such a douche to everyone else.” Hyungwon said, finishing the drink in one sip. “I give them another month.” Minhyuk said from across the room, scrolling through the tv to find a movie to watch.
“Please, she’s so in love with him that she’d sell her soul before she’d let him leave.” Hyungwon shook his head.
In the middle of your rant session, the noises began. First came the loud moans, then the even louder music that was used to cover them up. You stood up quickly, grabbing a pillow and taking it with you. Hyungwon tugged on your hand, bringing you back to the couch. “Don’t go in the with a pillow.”
He outstretched his hand to the other side of the couch and grabbed the other throw pillow. “At least use two pillows, it’ll make a grander point.” You laughed and took the other pillow. Minhyuk ran over to take them away, glaring at you. “You’re not that mean, Y/N, just ignore them.”
An hour later, with the tv on full volume, the sounds of their fun could still be heard, even over the tv and music. Minhyuk grabbed the pillow and shot up, rushing to Liza and Kihyun’s room. “You’re not that mean, Y/N.” You imitated his voice, waiting for him to come back from his raid on the couple.
Minhyuk ran back into the living room, drenched from his head to his shoulders. “He poured wine on me.” He grumbled, entering his room to get a new shirt. When he came back out, more angry than you had ever seen him before. He took a deep breath to calm himself down. Hyungwon got up and pulled Minhyuk over to the couch and kept him there so he wouldn’t go and attack Kihyun.
You groaned, throwing your head back in frustration. You hated Yoo Kihyun more than anything.
On one of the rare chances you got to spend away from work and the university, you spent it in the music studio a few blocks away from your apartment. You tapped your fingers restlessly against the ivory keys. You sighed in frustration, banging a single finger against the E flat key. The song you were working one was not coming to you.
“Your song would be better if you weren’t so hateful towards the piano,” You heard a snipish voice call from the other side of the room. You didn’t look back, knowing the owner of the voice all too well. “Get out of my practice room, Kihyun.” You snapped, waiting for him to leave you alone for once.
You heard his footsteps walk closer to you and your piano. You looked up to him and glared. “I told you to get out.” You said one more time, not in the mood to mess around with his nonsense.
Kihyun shook his head and sat next to you. “I can't just leave when I hear music being played this awfully.” He muttered, pushing you to the side of the piano bench and taking the reins on the instrument.
You stared at him, astounded by his rudeness. “Are you kidding me?”
Kihyun shook his head and started pressing down the keys. “Sing along if you want, but the way you were playing, you were going to ruin any song you tried to play.” He said all of this so casually, without any hesitation in his voice.
You wanted to snap at him, call him out for being as rude as he was. Yet, you couldn’t find the right words to say. Kihyun began the song. It was a song that you had heard a hundred times before, one that you had even performed in high school. You itched to sing the song, but you didn’t want to give him that sweet satisfaction.
Eventually you said to hell with that and joined in.
Kihyun laughed breathlessly and continued on. After a few more bars, he started singing with you. His voice was lower than yours, giving a stark contrast to your own.
He was the biggest douche you had ever met, but you had to admit that his voice was that of an angel’s. It fit perfectly to the notes of the song, something way too beautiful to fit his personality.
Just when you thought you were enjoying the duet, Kihyun stopped playing all together. He stood up and looked to you blankly. “You’re singing flatly. It’s hurting my ear, I’m going to go heal them.” He said coldly, shoving his hands in his jacket pockets and walking away.
You rolled your eyes, glaring at the back of his head. That was the final straw, you weren’t going to put up with his bullshit any longer. “If you don’t stop treating Minhyuk and I like garbage, I’m going to kick you out of the apartment.”
He stopped walking and looked back to you instantly. His sly grin made your blood boil. “Good luck trying to do that with Liza around. She would have a fit if you kicked her boyfriend out of the apartment.”
You quickly made your way towards him, pointing your finger into his chest. You pushed your finger into his skin roughly, trying to make a point. “I don’t care about that. If you want to live in my apartment, you’re going to start showing us a little respect.” You snapped at him.
He rolled his eyes at you and started to walk away again.
He had some nerve. You grabbed his arm and pulled him back to you. You didn’t know what you were thinking but there was something satisfying about hearing the crack of your hand hitting his face.
Kihyun stumbled back a bit and clutched his face. “What the hell?” he yelled. His eyes shot daggers at you and you could tell that he was furious. You smiled at him and held up the hand that slapped him. “Liza may not know about how nasty your personality is yet, but keep up with the asshole act, and she’ll know sooner than you can handle.” You winked to him, “I’m not someone you can mess around with, Kihyun. I hope you know that.”
You looked away and went back to the piano. You were not going to let him treat you like shit anymore.
The days after that were awkward. He avoided you like the plague and his comments seemed to die down into almost nothing. When Minhyuk started to notice the difference in your roommate’s behavior, he came to your first.
“What the hell did you do to him that made him this quiet?” He asked you one day in the kitchen. You grinned and poured out your coffee. “I might have yelled at him and slapped him.” You said quietly, but Minhyuk heard every word.
“You slapped him? That’ll do it.” He laughed, “He’s probably afraid of you now.”
“I doubt it, he just probably didn’t think either of us would stand up to him.” You said. You poured another mug of coffee and pushed it towards Minhyuk. You were about to continue on with the conversation but Kihyun walked through the kitchen doors.
He made brief eye contact with you and Minhyuk before looking away. He grabbed his own mug and poured it for himself. The room was thick with silence and it wasn’t broken until Kihyun cleared his throat to speak. “I-uh- suppose I’m sorry for the way I treated the two of you for a few weeks.” He paused and looked to the two of you, seriously this time. “I’m bad with people. I’m also told that I have a severe ego-”
“You can say that again.” Minhyuk mumbled. You nudged him in the ribs and let Kihyun continue.
Kihyun took a deep breath and prevented himself from saying something mean to Minhyuk. “As I was saying… I’m not the nicest to people when I first meet them. And I apologize for that now.” He stuck out his hand for one of you to take. “So what do we say? Call it a truce and become friends?”
You looked up to Minhyuk to see what his reaction might be. Minhyuk cocked an eyebrow but nodded his head. “I suppose that we could do that.” He said as he took Kihyun’s hand.
You thought about it for the moment. Was he truly genuine in his apology or was he just saying this to not get kicked out. You looked into his eyes and saw the softness in them. You sighed and took his hand. “Act up again and we’ll kick you out, Liza or no.” You told him.
He nodded and let out a long breath of relief. “Now that we’re on good terms, would you like to go to the studio with me, Y/N?” He asked, almost kindly.
You shrugged your shoulders “I don’t know, are you going to insult my singing again?” You questioned. He shook his head, embarrassed by what he said to you a few days prior. “No, no I won’t.”
You grinned, “Then sure.”
This time you felt more comfortable with Kihyun by your side. Every once and awhile he would stop the music and instruct you on how to control your voice a little more. In a way, he was being strangely kind.
He was a dancer as well, which he proudly showed you in the middle of the practice room. To him, performing was more than a passion, it was his life. He had so much talent that it amazed you. You also wondered why he hadn’t gotten the chance to start performing on stages quite yet. He only gave you a short answer. “Because I’m not ready yet.” He told you every time you asked. You supposed that it was a valid answer, but he was more than ready to start capturing an audience.
In the middle of the practice, he stopped dancing and he lied down on the floor, breathing heavily. “I don’t want you to forgive me yet.” He said through  labored breaths. You looked at him strangely and sat down on the ground next to him.
“You made me realize what I had been doing. I know I’ve deserved it before, but no one has ever slapped me. When someone hits you because you’ve been an ass, it’s kind of a wake up call.” He admitted, staring up at the ceiling.
You laughed and nodded along, “Yeah, you really did deserve it. What made you target Minhyuk and I? You acted like a perfect gentleman towards Liza but no one else.” You were afraid that maybe this question went a little farther than he wished.
Kihyun propped himself on the ground so he could face you. “My dad is a big CEO of a business firm in Seoul. My mother is a fashion designer. I’ve had a very comfortable, luxurious life. That doesn’t help my ego complex at all.” He joked before going back into his story. “When my father found out that I was majoring in the arts, he cut me off completely. He said that if I was going to pursue a career in music instead of law or medicine, I was no son of his. So I got by, I worked at a French restaurant for a while to pay for student bills. I had a lot saved up from when my parents were paying for everything but I didn’t want to dig into that yet. So I got an apartment with one of my friends. He moved back home and I was short on rent. You know the rest of the story.”
You looked at him, feeling a little bit bad about his familial situation. “Your father sounds like an ass.” You whispered to him.
Kihyun nodded and smiled, “He is, no doubt. Before I moved in, I was also having a few problems with Liza. To keep her from leaving, I dipped into my savings and started spoiling her. It’s stupid, I know, but I didn’t really want to lose her. She’s my first serious girlfriend and I didn’t want to see her go so soon.”
You laughed, really loudly. You didn’t want to seem insensitive or harsh, but it just kind of came out. “So you were an ass to us because your father had just disowned you and you were on the verge of having your girlfriend, my best friend, leave you. So you took it out on two people you didn’t even know.”
Kihyun pressed his hand to his face, shielding it from you in embarrassment. “If you put it like that then I sound horribly petty.” He groaned out. He fell back to his position on the floor and knocked his head softly into the wood. “You kind of were petty. But I’m willing to overlook it just for now.” You paused thinking about something else he said. “If you and Liza truly love each other, then she won’t rely on the gifts you give her.”
You knew that was stretching the truth though. Liza had a long track record with men. She targeted the attractive, wealthy, charismatic ones. You loved your best friend but she was a little bit of a gold digger when she wanted to be. The way Liza looked at Kihyun was proof enough for you though, he was the real deal in her eyes.
“I suppose,” he checked the time on his phone and got up from the ground. “We should probably get home before it gets too late.” You nodded in agreement and grabbed your things.
It was a cold February day and you spent it on the couch, a box of tissues and a bag of cough drops by your side. You had gone into work earlier today, but you were sent home thirty minutes into your shift because of the very obvious sickness you had.
So here you were, enjoying your very rare amount of alone time in the apartment. You caught the last part of a movie on t.v. and you were about to put in your own movie but you got a text message that distracted you from doing so.
You looked at your phone and saw the message from Kihyun light up your screen.
Kihyun: Yo, I just got out of class. I’m going to the store, want me to pick you up something to eat/drink?
You hated him. You constantly reminded yourself.
You: Tea or soup. My throat is killing me. Thank you!
You sent back quickly. You hated him.
Kihyun: Alright I’ll be home soon
“It was a flutter of a crush” You had to remind yourself. He and Liza were so annoyingly in love that it had to be a passing by, but as the days wore on, you couldn’t see it as a flutter.
Kihyun came home and set a large paper bag down on the table in front of you. He slowly started taking things out one by one. “I texted Liza and asked her what your favorite tea flavor was.” He gestured to the cup of hot tea and gave it to you. “Raspberry from that weird hippie place down the street.” He made a face towards the tea and continued pulling things out.
He placed the bowl of soup in front of you, another thing he bought. He also took out a couple bags of chocolates from the bottom. He handed you your own bag. “That’s for you” He lifted up his right hand “This one is for Liza and I, she’s been complaining about going on a diet so I figured we could share one bag.” And he lifted up his left hand “And this one's for Minhyuk. I forgot, does he like chocolate?”
You nod, taking in the kindness he was showing. “Thank you.” You grinned. You outstretched your arm and coughed into your sleeve. Kihyun looked down at you, a little worried. The two of you had grown closer in the past few weeks than you had ever expected. You and him had more in common than you had Liza did, but you would never let Liza in on that little piece of information.
Though, as your friendship grew, so did your feelings.
Despite getting off on a rocky start, you grew to become excited every time you saw him in class or worked with him in the studio. It was ridiculous to think you think you had a crush on your best friend’s boyfriend, but you couldn’t control how you felt.
Kihyun sat down on the couch next to you. He picked up the tissues and handed them to you. “I have some important news,” He said excitedly, turning to face you completely. You raised your eyebrows, waiting to hear his terrific news.
“My father is finally supporting me again. I sent him videos of my progress and our practice sessions. He’s thoroughly impressed and he reconsidered my choice to study music!” His eyes lit up happily, something you had not seen before.
You smiled and launched yourself towards him, hugging him tightly. “That’s wonderful! I’m happy for you.” You peered at him, even though you didn’t let go of his body. He wrapped his own arms around you, his smile faltered as you lied on top him on the couch.
“Yeah…” He trailed off, his eyes floating down to your lips. He licked his own lips but didn’t move any further from there. You wanted to lean in, so badly that it hurt but you knew what it would mean if you did so.
Before you made the decision, you quickly got off of Kihyun and coughed into your arm. Kihyun sighed and draped his arm around your waist, easing you off the couch and leading you towards your bedroom. In his other hand he held the tissues. He helped you sit down on your bed and tucked you under the covers (Even if you really didn’t need help). He set the tissues next to you and rubbed the top of your head.
“Go to sleep, I’ll text Minhyuk and tell him to warm up that soup for you when you wake up. I have to get to get ready for work, so, um, sleep well.” He said the last part awkwardly but you found it a little adorable.
You closed your eyes, hoping the images of Kihyun would leave. But they didn’t
A flutter of a crush? You couldn’t have been more wrong.
